Postexercise hydration is fundamental to replace fluid loss from sweat. This study evaluated rehydration and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms for each of three beverages: water (W), sports drink (SD), and skimmed, lactose-free milk (SLM) after moderate-intensity cycling in the heat. Sixteen college students completed three exercise sessions each to lose ≈2% of their body mass. They drank 150% of body mass loss of the drink assigned in randomized order; net fluid balance, diuresis, and GI symptoms were measured and followed up for 3 hr after completion of fluid intake. SLM showed higher fluid retention (∼69%) versus W (∼40%; p <.001); SD (∼56%) was not different from SLM or W (p >.05). Net fluid balance was higher for SLM (−0.26 kg) and SD (−0.42 kg) than W (−0.67 kg) after 3 hr (p <.001), resulting from a significantly lower diuresis with SLM. Reported GI disturbances were mild and showed no difference among drinks (p >.05) despite ingestion of W (1,992 ± 425 ml), SD (1,999 ± 429 ml), and SLM (1,993 ± 426 ml) in 90 min. In conclusion, SLM was more effective than W for postexercise rehydration, showing greater fluid retention for the 3-hr follow-up and presenting with low-intensity GI symptoms similar to those with W and SD. Water has been a factor in wars and other violent conflicts for thousands of years. Water can be a trigger of conflict, a casualty of conflict, or a weapon of conflict. In modern times, water-related conflicts appear to be increasing in number, with many of these occurring at the sub-state level, such as between opposing militant groups or between groups with different ethnic and cultural heritages. Action to prevent, mitigate, and recover from these conflicts is possible and available, but insufficiently applied. Investments in the broader effort to create more equitable, sustainable, resilient societies are urgently needed. The good news is that we no longer lack the technological capability to create that world, and action at all levels of society, from the local to the global, will help to foster peace and sustain and protect water resources for everyone. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of mouth rinsing and ingesting unpleasant salty or bitter solutions on cycling sprint performance and knee extensor force characteristics. Eleven male and one female trained cyclists (age: 34 ± 9 years, maximal oxygen uptake 56.9 ± 3.9 ml·kg−1·min−1) completed a ramp test and familiarization followed by four experimental trials. In each trial, participants completed an all-out 30-s cycling sprint with knee extensor maximal voluntary contractions before and immediately after the sprint. In a randomized, counterbalanced, cross-over order, the four main trials were: a no solution control condition, water, salty (5.8%), or bitter (2 mM quinine) solutions that were mouth rinsed (10 s) and ingested immediately before the cycling sprint. There were no significant differences between conditions in mean power (mean ± SD, no solution: 822 ± 115 W, water: 818 ± 108 W, salt: 832 ± 111 W, bitter: 818 ± 105 W); peak power (no solution: 1,184 ± 205 W, water: 1,177 ± 207 W, salt: 1,195 ± 210 W, bitter: 1,184 ± 209 W); or fatigue index (no solution: 51.5% ± 5.7%, water: 50.8% ± 7.0%, salt: 51.1% ± 5.9%, bitter: 51.2% ± 7.1%) during the sprint. Maximal force and impulse declined postexercise; however, there were no significant differences between conditions in knee extensor force characteristics. River sediment supply (Qs) and longshore sediment transport (LST) are recognized as two paramount controls on river delta morphodynamics and stratigraphy. We employed the Delft3D model to simulate the evolution of deltas from fluvial to wave‐dominated conditions, revealing the interplay between river‐ and wave‐driven sediment quantities. Wave‐influenced deltas may show alternating accumulation and retreat patterns driven by avulsions and wave‐induced sediment diffusion, posing coastal management challenges. Deltas with higher wave energy evolve under a fine balance between river supply and intense wave‐mediated sediment redistribution and are highly vulnerable under conditions of sediment reduction. Reducing Qs by ∼40%–70%, common in modern dammed rivers, can rapidly shift bypass from ∼0 to 1 (no bypass to complete bypass). This leads to accelerated diffusion and potential sediment loss in modern deltas. The study highlights the importance of accurately computing sediment quantities in real‐world deltas for improved management, especially under increasing anthropogenic and climatic pressures. Plain Language Summary: Ocean waves, like proficient sculptors, shape the meeting points of rivers and seas—where deltas are created. Under the power of ocean waves, the sediments transported by rivers are organized into distinct patterns. Using an advanced computer model, our research unveils how this interplay affects the physical form of these deltas and their functioning. In certain conditions, the sediment carried by waves can jump over the river mouth and move further along the coastline, contributing to stretching the delta and inducing erosion. Currently, river sediments are getting blocked behind river dams, depriving deltas of their sediment nourishment. As sediment supply decreases, powerful waves at the sea erode deltas more easily, endangering ecosystems, human communities and infrastructure. Because deltas are facing challenges from climate change and increased human activities, informed and innovative management strategies based on better knowledge of natural processes are needed to preserve these valuable coastal regions. Two‐step sequential deposition of perovskite films is proven efficient and compatible with large‐scale production. Nevertheless, its critically regulated environmental humidity often remains a burden, hindering its applications in reproducible fabrication of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, by introducing a water ethyl acetate (W‐EA) solution treatment before annealing, improved perovskite crystallinity and homogeneity in FA0.95‐xMAxCs0.05PbI3 films without additional composition regulation is achieved. In situ Grazing‐incidence Wide‐angle X‐ray Scattering experiments highlighted accelerated crystallization kinetics in W‐EA‐treated films, leading to high‐quality perovskite formation. PSCs based on this method reached an optimal power conversion efficiency of 25.01% and demonstrated enhanced moisture resistance, retaining 88% efficiency after 1000 h in ambient conditions. This W‐EA treatment simplifies the fabrication process, greatly reducing the need for controlled humidity, and offers insights into the role of water in perovskite film crystallization, with significant implications to produce high‐performance PSCs. Introduction: Safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) are crucial to human health. Reducing inequalities and ensuring universal access to WASH are essential to achieving the agenda of sustainable development. We aimed to measure access to WASH among ethnic minority populations in Bangladesh and understand the situation and factors affecting WASH practices among them. Additionally, we reviewed policy related to WASH to highlight the inequality faced by ethnic minority populations. Methodology: We utilized data from the multiple indicator cluster survey-2019. We used the chi-square test for bivariate analysis and multilevel mixed-effect logistic regression analyses to identify the effect of ethnicity on WASH in Bangladesh after controlling selected covariates. Furthermore, we systematically reviewed Bangladesh’s WASH-related policies and programs. Findings: While 98.5% of Bengalis had access to basic drinking water services, the percentage is 60.6% for the ethnic minority population. For improved sanitation facilities not shared with others, the difference between Bengali and ethnic populations was 22.3% (64.6% vs. 42.3%). On the other hand, 75% of the Bengali population had a handwashing facility with water and soap, and 50% of the ethnic population had them. Ethnicity appeared to be a statistically significant predictor of every component of WASH. Compared to Bengali, the ethnic population had 87%, 45%, 31%, and 45% less access to water (aOR = 0.13, p ≤ 0.001), sanitation (aOR = 0.55, p ≤ 0.001), and handwashing (aOR = 0.69, p ≤ 0.05), and WASH facilities aOR = 0.55, p ≤ 0.001), respectively. Among the policies of Bangladesh, only one identified action for WASH rights of ethnic minorities. Conclusion: The government should identify the issues of WASH among ethnic minorities and represent them adequately in policies to achieve the aim of ‘leaving none behind’ of sustainable development goals. In this study, experimental reactors for cathodic nitrogen plasma electrolysis were designed by the composition of galvanic (voltaic) and electrolytic cells with wide and narrow connectors filled with tap water and agar solutions. The designed reactor can be used to simultaneously perform and manage nitrification in acidic and alkaline environments. According to the reactor's performance, it can be installed on the irrigation system and used depending on the soil pH of the fields for delivering water and nitrogen species that are effective in growth. The nitrification process was investigated by choosing the optimal reactor with a wide connector based on different changes in oxidation-reduction potential and pH on the anode and cathode sides. The nitrite concentration changed directly with ammonium and nitrate concentrations on the cathode side. It changed inversely and directly with ammonium and nitrate concentrations on the anode side respectively. Nitrite concentration decreased from 5.387 ppm with water connector, to 0.326 ppm with 20% agar solution, and 0.314 ppm with 30% agar solution connectors on the anode side. It increased from 0 ppm to 0.191 ppm with a water connector, 0.405 ppm with 20% agar solution, and 7.454 ppm with 30% agar solution connectors on the cathode side. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Biopores formed by the actions of decaying roots of plants and soil fauna are essential for providing preferential growth pathways into deeper soil when the subsoil is compacted. Biopores help with rapid transportation of oxygen which increases microbial activity. These positive impacts help to increase the yield of crops even in adverse environmental conditions. However, the impact of biopores depends on various climatic and soil conditions. Understanding the mechanisms of different factors controlling the influences of biopores on the growth and development of plant roots is essential for getting more benefits in crop production. While several reviews have explored biopore-root interactions in crop production, there remains a lack of systematic studies on the factors influencing these interactions. In this review, we discussed different factors affecting the impacts of biopores on various crops in different situations based on current literature. It is also explained how we can maximize these impacts for getting benefits in sustainable crop production. Biopore improves the soil structure which has vital role on the growth of crops. On the other hand, clumping of roots within the biopores was also observed which may negatively affect crop growth. Similarly, biopores increase water infiltration as well as the leaching of nutrients. The influences of biopores depend on pore characteristics, abundance of biopores, moisture content, management practices, edaphic conditions, plant species etc. Understanding the factors influencing biopore-root interaction can contribute to improve root accessing into the deeper soil, enhancing their adaptation in stressful soil conditions. The paper traces water-related social concern, or hydro-anxiety, on Delhi’s rural periphery. It follows Matthew Gandy’s assertion that ‘the history of cities can be read as a history of water’, even as it expands the urban to encompass its extensions, including the surrounding rural belt. Building on community-engaged research, the paper describes the persistent anxieties around water since the 1950s, even as their specific articulations have changed in terms of both abundance and sensory qualities. Relating the shifts with local responses to the state’s civil works since the mid-1960s, it argues that as these villages become incorporated into urban systems, historical relations with water are brought within the patchy and uncertain ones that characterise engineered hydrologies of the Global South. This article elaborates on an artist-in-residence project funded by the Leverhulme Trust in the Geography Department at Durham University in 2015–16. The project confronted artistic and scientific perspectives to investigate how people in the North-East of England perceive and value their river environments and to recognize potential contributions to catchment management. The project identified a variety of disconnexions and hierarchies in the River Wear catchment and formulated artistic interventions for nonhuman audiences. This article reflects on water holistically and explores transdisciplinary views to propose water in its expanded field. Water in the Expanded Field is plural, complex, and aims at decentering the human importance. It promotes water multiple perspectives, including the more-than-human world and acknowledging water's ontological importance, developed by the speculative artistic practice of producing works of art for nonhuman audiences and then transposed to water debates. Transfer hydrogenation of N‐heteroarenes was successfully achieved using a water‐soluble half‐sandwich Cp*Ir‐based catalyst containing a uracil‐based bifunctional abnormal NHC ligand, using HCOOH/HCOONa buffer solution as the hydrogen source. Reduction of N‐heteroarenes was shown to be highly pH‐dependent, and an acidic pH = 3.0 was found to be suitable for the best activity. The catalyst showed excellent functional group compatibility and high turnover number (up to 10,400), with catalyst loadings as low as 0.005 mol%. Finally, we demonstrated the catalyst's efficacy and applicability toward reusable and repetitive transfer hydrogenation using liquid/liquid extraction methodology, which underscored the significance of sustainable usage of noble metal catalysts in such transformations. Although almost a third of the world's population is exposed to iodine deficiency (ID), and supplementation programs such as enriching table salt have been carried out or are being carried out at the global and national level, in many regions of the world, people are facing an increase in iodine intake, which is mainly due to the presence of large amounts of iodine in water, soil, agricultural products, or high consumption of seafood. Published articles were indexed in the Scopus database (from 2000 to 1 April 2023) were reviewed and analyzed by VOSviewer software. The results showed the growing interest of researchers over the last 20 years in environmental iodine intake. Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between Med-Diet adherence with sustainable nutrition and environmental footprints in academicians. Methods: The study involved 153 academicians aged 23-64 working in a university in Turkey. Data were collected through a questionnaire including socio-demographic characteristics, anthropometric measurements, Mediterranean Diet Adherence Scale (MEDAS) and Sustainable and Healthy Eating Behaviours Scale (SHEBS). Carbon and water footprints were calculated. Results: All sub-scales of SHEBS were higher in individuals who adhered to Med-Diet than those who did not (p<0.05). The carbon and water footprints of individuals with high adherence to the Med-Diet were lower than those of no adherence (p<0.05). Each 1-point increase in MEDAS score was associated with a 1-point increase in SHEBS score, a 0.15 CO2 eq/kg and a 0.001 m3/year decrease in the amount of carbon and water footprint of food. Conclusion: Higher adherence to the Med-Diet was associated with higher sustainable nutrition behaviours, and lower environmental footprints. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study of flow behavior in the simultaneously developing transitional regime of mixed convection flows is rare. It has been believed that the transitional regime will give a good compromise between pressure drop and heat transfer compared to laminar and turbulent flow regime. In this experimental study, the friction factor (f) and Nusselt number (Nu) characteristics for buoyancy-assisted and opposed flows of water in concurrently developing transitional regime of mixed convection through a vertical tube are studied. Experiments were done for Reynolds numbers (Re) varying from 500 to 15,000, Grashof numbers (Gr) from 1.25 × 104 to 5 × 106, Prandtl numbers (Pr) from 3 to 7, and Richardson numbers (Ri) from 0 to 0.1 subjected to uniform heat flux boundary conditions. A flow visualization provision after the test section which confirms an early transition in buoyancy-opposing flow (Rec = 2264) compared to buoyancy-aiding flow (Rec = 2468) at a fixed Ri of 0.1. Further, with the increase in Ri from 0 to 0.1, the average f decreases, and the average Nu increases in both aiding and opposing flows. It confirms that the onset of transition gets delayed with the increase of heat flux supplied in both the flows. Based on the present outcomes, an efficient heat exchanging device can be operated either to delay or advance the transition in a vertical pipe flow for optimum heat transfer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

While the permeation mechanism of solute (e.g., ions and glucose) through biological membrane has been studied extensively, the mechanical role of water transport in intracellular phenomena has not received much attention. In the present study, to investigate the effect of water permeation on the intracellular pressure response, a novel permeation flux model through a biological membrane is developed by incorporating the coupling permeabilities (between water and ion fluxes) as the water-ion interaction in the ion channels. The proposed model is applied to a two-dimensional permeation problem of water and ions in a closed cell separated by a thin membrane. The permeation flux model reproduces the typical time response of intracellular pressure to action potentials with reasonable agreement with experimental results in the literature, indicating that the pressure response can be characterized by the following three parameters: water permeability, the mass ratio of water and ion, and the ratio of the permeation fluxes of water and ion. In particular, the permeation flux ratio plays an essential role in intracellular phenomena; depending on the value of the permeation flux ratio, the time lag between the action potential and the pressure response is 0.1 times smaller than that expected by the previous researchers, indicating that water transport associated with ions may trigger a pressure response. Objective: To examine the causal association between 15 dietary factors and the incidence of colorectal cancer through the application of Mendelian randomization methodology. Methods: The data associated with 15 dietary factors were derived from the IEU OPEN GWAS database, and the colorectal cancer data were sourced from the FinnGen database. The Inverse Variance Weighting method was the principal research method. Sensitivity analyses were implemented to affirm the robustness of the findings. Additionally, we conducted multivariable Mendelian randomization analyses to adjust for the intake of ω-3 and ω-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Results: In our research, we observed suggestive causal relationships between genetically predicted water intake and the reduced risk of colorectal cancer (OR = 0.54; 95% CI= 0.31 ∼ 0.93; p = 0.028); genetically predicted ω-3 PUFA intake (OR = 1.17; 95% CI= 1.05 ∼ 1.30; p = 0.005) were suggestively associated with the increased risk of colorectal cancer. In the multivariable Mendelian randomization analysis, the effect of ω-3 PUFA intake remains significant after adjusting for the influence of ω-6 PUFA intake. Horizontal pleiotropy was not present in this study. Conclusions: There exists a suggestive causal association between increased water intake and decreased risk of colorectal cancer, while ω-3 PUFA intake are suggestive linked to the increased risk of colorectal cancer. Sodium carboxymethylcellulose Na-CMC is derived from cellulose fibers. Knowledge of the behavior of Na-CMC as a charged polysaccharide in solution is important, because most of its biomedical industrial applications utilize its solutions. The main objective of our research described here was to determine the rheological and viscometric properties of polysaccharide solutions of Na-CMC in water (W), as a function of the cutting speed and the polymer concentration. The evolution of reduced dynamic viscosities and the effect of the Gibbs energy of Na-CMC in W were characterized as a function of the temperature (15 °C to 45 °C), and concentration (1 to 10) g/l. We identified three main concentration regimes, corresponding to a dilute regime, a critical regime, and the semi-dilute regime. The thermodynamic parameters of the viscosity also supported the obtained results. Our results show that Na-CMC/W is a promising solvent mixture for use in pharmaceutical and antibacterial applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract“La casa inundada” (1960) presents a peculiar, meditative, and uncanny short story by the Uruguayan writer, Felisberto Hernández. The story is narrated via the memories (and the male fantasies) of a writer who once took on the odd job of rowing a large woman around the inside of her flooded house day after day in a small boat. Throughout most of the story, the woman, Margarita, remains a mystery to the narrator and to the reader, as do the reasons for her taciturn disposition and for having purposefully flooded her own house. In this article, rather than rescue what is unknown so that the mysterious woman’s apparent ‘“dirty little secret’” can be recovered from the swell, I explore the ontological, epistemological, and affective attributes of water itself. In so doing, I build on Felisberto’s expanding bibliography, calling particular attention to his understudied motifs of “pereza” and “deslizarse.” Unlike most critics of Felisberto, I utilize concepts that both come from and critique psychoanalysis; additionally, the underappreciated theories of Gaston Bachelard regarding water as a “true mother substance” serve as a vital source of theoretical interpretation. In the course of Felisberto’s story, the narrator comes to believe that, for the motherly—and tantalizing—character of Margarita, “lo que más quería [ella], era comprender el agua.” Ultimately, as I demonstrate, “La casa inundada,” similarly helps readers to better think, understand, and sense water and its myriad ways. Background: Several healthcare-associated infection outbreaks have been caused by waterborne Pseudomonas aeruginosa exhibiting its ability to colonize water systems and resist conventional chlorine treatment. This study aims to investigate the occurrence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in hospital drinking water systems and the antimicrobial resistance profiles (antibiotic and chlorine resistance) of isolated strains. Methods: We investigated the presence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in water and biofilms developed in nine hospital water systems (n = 192) using culture-based and molecular methods. We further assessed the survival of isolated strains after exposure to 0.5 and 1.5 ppm concentrations of chlorine. The profile of antibiotic resistance and presence of antibiotic resistance genes in isolated strains were also investigated. Results: Using direct PCR method, Pseudomonas aeruginosa was detected in 22% (21/96) of water and 28% (27/96) of biofilm samples. However, culturable Pseudomonas aeruginosa was isolated from 14 samples. Most of P. aeruginosa isolates (86%) were resistant to at least one antibiotic (mainly β-lactams), with 50% demonstrating multidrug resistance. Moreover, three isolates harbored intI1 gene and two isolates contained blaOXA−24,blaOXA−48, and blaOXA−58‌ genes. Experiments with chlorine disinfection revealed that all tested Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains were resistant to a 0.5 ppm concentration. However, when exposed to a 1.5 ppm concentration of chlorine for 30 min, 60% of the strains were eliminated. Interestingly, all chlorine-resistant bacteria that survived at 30-minute exposure to 1.5 ppm chlorine were found to harbor the intI1 gene. Conclusions: The detection of antimicrobial resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa in hospital water systems raises concerns about the potential for infections among hospitalized patients. Humin-sulfuric acid (Humin-SO3H) as a novel efficient biobased sulfonic acid was easily prepared by adding chlorosulfuric acid (ClSO3H) to Humin and characterized by potentiometric titration and FT-IR spectrum. Humin-SO3H is an eco-friendly, heterogeneous biobased, and efficient catalyst for Paal-Knorr and Clauson-Kaas pyrrole synthesis. The catalyst is easily recovered by simple filtration and has excellent turnover efficiency even after 4 cycles. Besides, due to the clearance of the biocatalyst away from the reaction media, the desired highly pure products can be achieved in high to excellent yields. Hydrogen is hailed as a game-changer in global energy systems, offering a sustainable remedy to climate change through its zero waste attributes, beneficial for both power generation and transportation. However, conventional thermochemical methods for hydrogen production, such as steam methane reforming and coal gasification, result in low-quality impure hydrogen, necessitating costly purification processes. Therefore, expediting the advancement of pure hydrogen production methods with minimal to no purification requirements is essential to bolster economic viability and foster widespread adoption across industries. Among these methods, electrolysis and hydrolysis have garnered significant attention in research over the past two decades. However, there is a lack of literature review discussing both electrolysis and hydrolysis for pure hydrogen production within a single article. Hence, this review seeks to fill this gap by providing an overview of pure hydrogen production through electrolysis and hydrolysis. It commences with the classification of different pure hydrogen production methods, followed by a discussion on water electrolysis and other variants of electrolysis, as well as hydrolysis involving light metal-based composites, alloys, and lightweight hydrides. A comparison between electrolysis and hydrolysis for pure hydrogen production is also outlined and discussed, along with an outlook on their future prospects. ABSTRACT In this research, bimetallic CdNi nanoparticles encapsulated in a magnetic spent coffee ground (Fe3O4@COFF/CdNi) was synthesized as a new nanocatalyst. The structural and chemical characteristics of Fe3O4@COFF/CdNi were comprehensively investigated using various techniques, including FT‐IR, XRD, XPS, TEM, VSM, EDS, TGA, BET, and ICP. Through XRD, XPS analysis, TEM images, and EDS mapping, the presence of CdNi nanoalloys was conclusively established. Fe3O4@COFF/CdNi exhibited remarkable catalytic activity for the hydrogen generation from water using iso‐propanol as a clean sacrificial agent. The high catalytic performance of Fe3O4@COFF/CdNi was attributed to the synergistic cooperative effect of Cd and Ni within CdNi nanoalloys. Interestingly, this process was performed for the in situ generated hydrogen from water to reduce a range of nitrobenzenes simultaneously into the corresponding anilines in high yields (93%–98%). The magnetic and hydrophilic characteristics of Fe3O4@COFF/CdNi facilitated its reusability over five runs. Using water as the most abundant hydrogen source, for the first time for in situ hydrogen generation–reduction of nitrobenzenes without demanding on external light sources or power supplies can be mentioned as a significant milestone of this field of study. Capillarity-driven transport in nanoporous solids is widespread in nature and crucial for modern liquid-infused engineering materials. During imbibition, curved menisci driven by high negative Laplace pressures exert an enormous contractile load on the porous matrix. Due to the challenge of simultaneously monitoring imbibition and deformation with high spatial resolution, the resulting coupling of solid elasticity to liquid capillarity has remained largely unexplored. Here, we study water imbibition in mesoporous silica using optical imaging, gravimetry, and high-resolution dilatometry. In contrast to an expected Laplace pressure-induced contraction, we find a squareroot-of-time expansion and an additional abrupt length increase when the menisci reach the top surface. The final expansion is absent when we stop the imbibition front inside the porous medium in a dynamic imbibition-evaporation equilibrium, as is typical for transpiration-driven hydraulic transport in plants, especially in trees. These peculiar deformation behaviors are validated by single-nanopore molecular dynamics simulations and described by a continuum model that highlights the importance of expansive surface stresses at the pore walls (Bangham effect) and the buildup or release of contractile Laplace pressures as menisci collectively advance, arrest, or disappear. Our model suggests that these observations apply to any imbibition process in nanopores, regardless of the liquid/solid combination, and that the Laplace contribution upon imbibition is precisely half that of vapor sorption, due to the linear pressure drop associated with viscous flow. The time dynamics of charge accumulation at the electrochemical interface between graphene and water is important for supercapacitors, batteries, and chemical and biological sensors. By using impedance spectroscopy, we have found that measured capacitance (Cm) at this interface with the gate voltage Vgate ≈ 0.1 V follows approximate laws Cm~T1.2 and Cm~T0.11 (T is Vgate period) in frequency ranges (1000–50,000) Hz and (0.02–300) Hz, respectively. In the first range, this dependence demonstrates that the interfacial capacitance (Cint) is only partially charged during the charging period. The observed weaker frequency dependence of the measured capacitance (Cm) at frequencies below 300 Hz is primarily determined by the molecular relaxation of the double-layer capacitance (Cdl) and by the graphene quantum capacitance (Cq), and it also implies that Cint is mostly charged. We have also found a voltage dependence of Cm below 10 Hz, which is likely related to the voltage dependence of Cq. The observation of this effect only at low frequencies indicates that Cq relaxation time is much longer than is typical for electron processes, probably due to Dirac cone reconstruction from graphene electrons with increased effective mass as a result of their quasichemical bonding with interfacial molecular charges. Charging power supplies with both fast and visualization functions have a wide range of applications in the information and new energy industries. In this paper, the visualized and contact‐type fast charging power supply based on WO3 film and Zn sheet is presented, and the prototype devices are fabricated. Different with the charging method of conventional batteries, charging is achieved by a Zn sheet contacting with a WO3 film moistened with water, resulting in a rapid discoloration of WO3. Theoretical investigation indicates that the interaction between Zn sheet and water molecules is the primary cause of the color change in the WO3 film. The WO3 film completes the colouring state within 10 s in the presence of Zn sheet and water, and the open‐circuit voltage of the device is 0.7 V, which can be used to drive various electronics by series‐parallel connection. This research introduces a novel method to induce colouring of WO3 films and proposes a fast charging mode different from traditional power sources. Background: Random-pattern skin flaps are commonly used to repair skin tissue defects in surgical tissue reconstruction. However, flap necrosis in the distal area due to ischemia injury is still challenging for its applications in plastic surgery. The complications of diabetes will further increase the risk of infection and necrosis. Methods: This study induced type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rats with a high-fat diet and STZ. The survival rate of the skin flap was observed by adding inorganic sodium nitrate to drinking water. Histology and immunohistochemistry were used to detect the damage to the skin flap. The nitrate content was measured by total nitric oxide and nitrate/nitrite parameter assay. Dihydroethidium and malondialdehyde (MDA) assays were used to value oxidative stress. Rat colon feces were collected for 16s rRNA gene sequence. Results: Our studies showed that nitrate administration leads to anti-obesity and anti-diabetic effects. Nitrate directly increased the survival area of skin flaps in diabetic rats and mean blood vessel density by enhancing angiogenesis, inhibiting apoptosis, and reducing oxidative stress. The 16s rRNA sequence revealed that nitrate may regulate the homeostasis of the gut microbiota and re-store energy metabolism. Conclusion: Dietary nitrate has been shown to maintain the homeostasis of oxidative stress and gut microbiota to promote flap survival in rats with T2DM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study introduces a novel method for hydrogen fuel generation using ultrasound technology through the disassociation of water into hydrogen and oxygen. The proposed experimental setup comprises several key components: a power supply, an ultrasonic generator, two transducers, a reactor vessel, two vapor traps, a condenser, a valve, a hydrogen storage, a humidity sensor and a hydrogen measurement sensor. The system operates at a power of 100 W and a frequency of 40 kHz, and the reactor vessel contains 2L of solution. The study results show a variability in hydrogen production rates under different experimental conditions. The distilled water used in the experiments at 25 °C produces hydrogen at a rate of 0.05 μmol/min, which increases to 0.066 μmol/min at 70 °C. The tap water gives hydrogen production rates ranging from 0.044 μmol/min at 25 °C to 0.06 μmol/min at 70 °C. The lake water produces hydrogen at rates between 0.036 μmol/min and 0.054 μmol/min, while the wastewater ranges from 0.028 μmol/min to 0.044 μmol/min. The present study investigates the effect of CO 2 injection into the sonoreactor on the system performance and shows that hydrogen production rates increase over a 20-min period for the water resources, with higher CO 2 flow rates leading to improved production rates. These findings demonstrate the potential of ultrasound technology for eco-friendly hydrogen production, marking a promising alternative to conventional methods and contributing valuable insights to the field of sustainable energy. This review aims to assess the efficacy and effectiveness of eating and/or drinking interventions before, during and/or after blood donation in reducing vasovagal reactions (VVRs).We analysed randomized and non‐randomized controlled trials comparing eating and/or drinking interventions to no intervention, placebo or usual practice on (pre‐)syncopal VVRs and related symptoms. The GRADE (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation) approach was used to assess the risk of bias and overall certainty of the evidence.Pre‐donation water ingestion likely results in reduced on‐site VVRs, compared to no water (2 fewer per 100 donors, moderate‐certainty evidence). Background: School-based water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) may improve the health and attendance of schoolchildren, particularly post-menarcheal girls, but existing evidence is mixed. We examined the impact of an urban school-based WASH programme (Project WISE) on child health and attendance. Methods: The WISE cluster-randomised trial, conducted in 60 public primary schools in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia over one academic year, enrolled 2–4 randomly selected classes per school (~ 100 pupils) from grades 2 to 8 (aged 7–16) in an 'open cohort'. Schools were assigned 1:1 by stratified randomisation to receive the intervention during the 2021/2022 or the 2022/2023 academic year (waitlist control). The intervention included improvements to drinking water storage, filtration and access, handwashing stations and behaviour change promotion. Planned sanitation improvements were not realised. At four unannounced classroom visits post-intervention (March–June 2022), enumerators recorded primary outcomes of roll-call absence, and pupil-reported respiratory illness and diarrhoea in the past 7 days among pupils present. Analysis was by intention-to-treat. Results: Of 83 eligible schools, 60 were randomly selected and assigned. In total, 6229 eligible pupils were enrolled (median per school 101.5; IQR 94–112), 5987 enrolled at study initiation (23rd November–22nd December 2021) and the remaining 242 during follow-up. Data were available on roll-call absence for 6166 pupils (99.0%), and pupil-reported illness for 6145 pupils (98.6%). We observed a 16% relative reduction in odds of pupil-reported respiratory illness in the past 7 days during follow-up in intervention vs. control schools (aOR 0.84; 95% CI 0.71–1.00; p = 0.046). There was no evidence of effect on pupil-reported diarrhoea in the past 7 days (aOR 1.15; 95% CI 0.84–1.59; p = 0.39) nor roll-call absence (aOR 1.07; 95% 0.83–1.38; p = 0.59). There was a small increase in menstrual care self-efficacy (aMD 3.32 on 0–100 scale; 95% CI 0.05–6.59), and no evidence of effects on other secondary outcomes. Conclusions: This large-scale intervention to improve school WASH conditions city-wide had a borderline impact on pupil-reported respiratory illness but no effect on diarrhoeal disease nor pupil absence. This article analyzes the politics of scale in global development by focusing on a sanitation program in western Kenya. It follows the daily work of a nongovernmental organization that seeks to provide access to chlorine dispensers to millions of people for the purpose of disinfecting water. By engaging with literatures on development and infrastructure, this article proposes reach as an analytic that jointly attends to the aspirations, labors, and uncertain outcomes embedded in scale work. An ethnography of reach emphasizes the temporality of off‐grid infrastructures to capture the ambivalent relationships between aspirations and results and between standardization and adaptation, as well as the unstable nature of care. This proves useful to theorizing expansion as potentially generative of, rather than only inimical to, the good life—thereby troubling the vision of scale making as replication often used to understand development projects and their consequences. Introduction: This study examined the immediate acoustic, auditory-perceptual, and self-perceptual effects of two semi-occluded vocal tract exercises (SOVTs): straw phonation and straw phonation into a cup of water, delivered in a remote setting. Method: Thirty-six participants (19 females and 17 males) completed a baseline battery of acoustic recordings, followed by one of two SOVTs, and an identical post-task battery. The procedure repeated itself to include the other SOVT. Participants were also asked to rate their self-perceived vocal effort and quality following each condition. Recordings were presented to three expert listeners for completion of auditory-perceptual analysis. Results: Acoustically, a significant decrease in shimmer was noted following straw phonation. Auditory-perceptual analysis revealed a significant increase in the perception of strain following straw phonation into a cup of water. While no significant differences were found between SOVT tasks in self-perception of vocal effort, a significant increase in self-perception of vocal loudness was reported following straw phonation into a cup of water. Conclusion: SOVTs have a varied, yet significant short-term impact across acoustic, auditory-perceptual, and self-perceptual measures of voice production. Straw phonation provided consistently significant acoustic results, with nearly every variable improving to some degree. Results also support the notion that shimmer is an acoustic measure that is particularly susceptible to change following modest manipulation. These results, in addition to the auditory-perceptual and self-perceptual findings, have a direct impact on how SOVTs are being used clinically and may generalize to inform the way voice metrics are collected and analyzed. Escherichia coli is widely used as an indicator of recent faecal pollution of water. Most E. coli strains are commensals; however, isolates in water samples have been shown to carry antibiotic resistance determinants. In total, 47 E. coli were isolated from selected drinking water sources in Mbarara, Uganda. The isolates were examined for their susceptibility to seven antibiotics and the presence of nine antibioticresistance genes (mostly β-lactamase genes) and class 1 integrons. Isolates showed a high resistance to ampicillin of 55.5% and a high sensitivity to azithromycin and gentamicin at 98 and 96%, respectively. PCR analysis showed the presence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase genes blaCTX-M-32 and blaCMY-2 in 64 and 36% of the isolates. The carbapenemase genes blaOXA-48, blaVIM-2, blaNDM-1, and blaKPC-3 were either not detected or only in a very small number of the isolates, whereas class 1 integrons were present in 68% of the isolates. This study proves that antimicrobial resistance exists in E. coli in water used for drinking purposes in Mbarara city. The role that aquatic aerosols might play in inter-ecosystem exchanges in freshwater riparian environments has largely been understudied. In these environments, where freshwater streams are used both as drinking water and for treated waste disposal, water features like waterfalls, downed trees, and increased streamflow can serve as bioaerosol producers. Such water features could have an important role in the bacterial colonization of surrounding surfaces, including the riparian phyllosphere. In this study, we explore the influence of a freshwater stream's bacterial community composition and micropollution on riparian maple leaves exposed to bioaerosols produced from that stream. Using culture-based and non-culture-based techniques, we compared phylloplane microbial communities in riparian zones, adjacent non-riparian forested zones, and the surface waters of the stream. In this system, riparian zone maple leaf surfaces had higher bacterial counts than non-riparian zone trees. Using metagenomic profiling of the 16S rRNA gene, we found that, while microbial communities on leaves in both the riparian zone and forested sites were diverse, riparian zone bacterial communities were significantly more diverse. In addition, we found that riparian leaf bacterial communities shared more amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) with stream bacterial communities than forest leaves, indicating that the riparian zone phyllosphere is likely influenced by bioaerosols produced from water surfaces. The term "charismatic" refers to visually or empathetically appealing animals. They act as flagship species to garner interest and participation. This study explored the impact of charismatic animals featured in three virtual reality (VR) tours of an estuary system on youths' learning, connectedness to water (CTW), and tour perceptions. Each tour included a different animal– a charismatic dolphin, a non-charismatic tunicate, and a comparison treatment with no animal. Utilizing convergent mixed methods, the VR tours were distributed to five schools in the Tampa Bay area. Students completed a post-survey (n = 366) and interview (n = 6). Results showed all tours, regardless of animal charisma presence, yielded positive student CTW and estuary knowledge. Students indicated more interest in animals that were weird, interesting, and new to them. In this study, the chemical distribution of triclocarban (TCC), in natural aqueous systems, between water and sediment, with different chemical compositions of the aqueous phase and different percentages of organic carbon (OC%) in the sediments is presented. The influences of the temperature, of the composition of the aqueous matrices of natural waters and (OC%) in the sediment over the solubility of triclocarban, and its distribution coefficient Kd values were studied. log KD at 25 °C varied between 1.94 and 3.27 for a sediment with 5.50% OC and between 3.95 and 5.93% for a sediment with 6.75% OC, in the studied aqueous systems, with different concentrations of OC in the sediment. Various methods are applied to improve the quality of cement and concrete. Many efforts are made to enhance their quality by introducing additional compounds that can stabilize the chemical bonds between their components. Significant effects on hydrogen bonds under the influence of magnetic and electromagnetic waves have been observed. Results have been published with permanent magnetic fields for water treatment for concrete preparation with magnetic inductions B = 4000, 6000, 6000, 9000, and 9250 Gauss. Electromagnetic (e. m.) treated water has emerged as a promising approach for improving the properties of construction materials. Our investigation concerns the properties of concrete. Concrete is a composite building material mainly consisting of cement, aggregates, water, and various chemical additives. Water was activated with electromagnetic fields from solenoid, ranging from 20 to 40 kHz. The study employs Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy analysis and the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) method. The experiments were performed on samples and control samples. The control samples were obtained with water before activation with EM fields. Treating the water in concrete preparation with electromagnetic fields leads to greater mixture homogeneity. SEM images substantiate this outcome. The FT-IR peaks are linked to heightened chemical reactivity from improved water parameters attributed to the treatment with the EVOdrop device. Microplastics (MPs), or tiny pieces of plastic, have become a major global environmental problem because of their ubiquitous availability and possible risks to aquatic ecosystems. Surma is one of the vital rivers in Bangladesh located in the northeast part, with higher chances of MP pollution due to different anthropogenic reasons. In this instance, we carried out the investigation on the abundance, distribution, and characteristics of MPs in the sediment and surface water of the river. Samples were collected from 15 major locations of the Surma river flowing through Sylhet municipality. MPs particles were isolated from sediments and water samples utilizing techniques like sieve analysis, wet peroxide oxidation, density separation, and filtration and then characterized using a stereomicroscope. The abundance of MPs recorded 8 to 18 items/L in water samples (mean ± SD: 12.33 ± 2.98 items/L) and 360 to 1120 items/kg in sediment samples (mean ± SD: 522.67 ± 197.84 items/kg). The prominent size, shape, and color of MPs isolated from sediments were 1–2 mm sizes (24.49%), fragments (47.71%), and black (30.65%). However, for water samples, 1–2 mm sizes (37.22%), fiber shapes (48.48%), and transparent colors (38.46%) were dominant features. Conspicuously, in both sediment and water samples, there was a higher prevalence of smaller sized particles, posing a significant threat to the ecosystem. This heightened risk stems from the increased likelihood of ingestion by microorganisms, as well as the larger surface area of these particles, which may serve as vectors for other pollutants like organic pollutants and heavy metals. A greater abundance of fibers suggests an increased presence of lightweight particles in the water and sediment. Furthermore, the transparent color of the MPs in water might be impacted by prolonged weathering in the river, while the presence of black‐colored MPs in sediment points to the existence of plastic pellets originating from industrial and diverse sources. Future studies should concentrate on long‐term and broad monitoring, ecological effects, and practical mitigation techniques for MPs, providing essential baseline data to guide the formulation of policies in developing nations. Solution enthalpies of paracetamol, ΔsolH, in choline chloride–ethylene glycol–water mixtures were evaluated at 298.15 K. Solvatochromic UV–vis shifts of five different probes (4-nitroaniline, 4-nitroanisole, 4-nitrophenol, N,N-dimethyl-4-nitroaniline and 2,6-diphenyl-4-(2,4,6-triphenylpyridinium-1-yl)phenolate) were also assessed for the same mixtures at the same temperature in order to compute the corresponding Kamlet–Taft parameters, α, β, and π*. Quantitative structure–property relationships (QSPR) between ΔsolH and the solvatochromic parameters were established to investigate the solution processes under consideration. Due to the small variability in the solvent parameters, a further set of eight pure solvents were considered. The behavior of paracetamol in eutectic mixtures is shown to be not significantly different from its behaviour in the pure solvents. Body composition standards ensure service members maintain physical fitness, wellness, and support mission readiness. Anthropometric techniques (i.e., height/mass, circumference-based "tape test") have been the primary screening and percent body fat (%BF) assessment method in military personnel for about 4 decades. Recently, the Army and Marine Corps have implemented more advanced body composition assessment methods, such as air displacement plethysmography (ADP), multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (MF-BIA), and dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA), to serve as supplemental %BF assessment after failing the tape test. Although supplemental assessments are intended to improve on the accuracy and precision of the tape test, preassessment standardization, specifically regarding acute water ingestion (AWI), is lacking. Thus, the purpose of this narrative review was to (a) summarize the available literature regarding the influence of AWI on body composition estimates derived from ADP, MF-BIA, and DXA and (b) provide evidence-based recommendations for researchers and practitioners. Studies indicate that AWI increases %BF estimates with ADP (4 of 6 [4/6] observations) and MF-BIA (6/7), whereas AWI increases muscle mass (6/6) and likely decreases %BF (2/3) when obtained by DXA. In conclusion, ADP, MF-BIA, and DXA are susceptible to confounding from AWI, leading to inaccurate body composition estimates that may negatively affect the careers of military personnel. Based on the findings from this narrative review, military practitioners and researchers should (a) follow manufacturer guidelines for calorie intake [food and fluid] and exercise avoidance, (b) conduct urine-specific gravity testing [if possible], and (c) limit AWI to <250 ml before assessment. This paper describes commonly used processes to produce aviation fuel and alternative routes with potential production yields for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) like HEFA and ATJ. It also presents the possible sources (crude oil, refinery processes), causes (filter clogging, engine failure), and forms of contamination in both conventional and alternatively produced aviation fuels. Special attention is focused on the threats of fuel contamination with solid particles/trace elements, water, microorganisms, and fatty acid methyl esters (FAME). This review also presents the standard and novel advanced methods (ICP-MS, MALDI, ViPA) for identifying contaminations in aviation fuel. This study assessed the prevalence of interpersonal violence (IV) experienced by elite U.S. athletes. Athletes were surveyed about experiences of emotional, physical, sexual violence, and deprivation of food or water, as well as questions about mental health indices, identity characteristics, and who perpetrated the harm. Of the total sample, 57.8% reported experiencing some form of IV in sport. Most athletes who experienced IV experienced multiple forms with a large overlap between emotional abuse and other forms of violence. A significant relationship was found between reporting any form of IV and having been diagnosed with one or more psychiatric disorders – particularly anxiety, depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. IV was also significantly associated with self-reported eating disorders. A particularly strong association was found between reporting being deprived of food in sport and reporting an eating disorder. This study reveals a critical need for more research focused on the traumatic effects of IV in sport. Summary: Background: Nudges offer a promising tool to reduce sugary drink intake among children who are most at risk for diet‐related disease. Objective: To examine the impact of online store nudges on purchases of sugary drinks for children in lower‐income households. Methods: Caregivers with lower‐income were recruited to an online shopping experiment and instructed to spend $10–$30 on three beverages for their child aged 1–5 years. Participants were randomized to navigate an online supermarket in its standard version (n = 1106) or a version with nudges (n = 1135), including a product placement nudge (i.e. placing healthy beverages in prominent positions) and a swap nudge (i.e. offering a swap of water, plain milk and/or 100% fruit juice upon selection of sugary drinks). Results: On average, participants purchased 1887 (SD = 2113) and 620 (SD = 1528) calories from sugary drinks per basket in the control and experimental conditions, respectively. Model‐based results indicate that those in the experimental condition purchased 1267 (95% CI: 1419, 1114) fewer calories from sugary drinks, and fewer grams of total sugar (β = −253.5 g (95% CI: −286.3, −220.6)) and added sugar (β = −287.8 g (95% CI: −323.1, −252.5)) purchased from sugary drinks. Conclusion: Nudges may be an effective, acceptable, scalable strategy for leading caregivers in lower‐income households to purchase fewer sugary drinks for their children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Stomata are micropores on the leaf epidermis that allow carbon dioxide (CO2) uptake for photosynthesis at the expense of water loss through transpiration. Stomata coordinate the plant gas exchange of carbon and water with the atmosphere through their opening and closing dynamics. In the context of global climate change, it is essential to better understand the mechanism of stomatal movements under different environmental stimuli. Aquaporins (AQPs) are considered important regulators of stomatal movements by contributing to membrane diffusion of water, CO2 and hydrogen peroxide. This review compiles the most recent findings and discusses future directions to update our knowledge of the role of AQPs in stomatal movements. After highlighting the role of subsidiary cells (SCs), which contribute to the high water use efficiency of grass stomata, we explore the expression of AQP genes in guard cells and SCs. We then focus on the cellular regulation of AQP activity at the protein level in stomata. After introducing their post‐translational modifications, we detail their trafficking as well as their physical interaction with various partners that regulate AQP subcellular dynamics towards and within specific regions of the cell membranes, such as microdomains and membrane contact sites. Background: The adulteration of milk is an important issue that needs to be addressed because of its deleterious effects on health. Detection of adulterants in milk can be done in laboratories or by purchasing adulteration detection kits. There are few home-based rapid tests to detect common milk adulterants, which are less known by our community. Objectives of this study were to estimate the proportion of milk adulteration and to identify common adulterants, to determine the association of milk adulteration with gastrointestinal and renal diseases; and also to validate rapid home-based tests by comparing its result with standard milk adulteration detection kit. Materials and Methods: A community-based study was conducted on 330 medical and paramedical staff. Collected milk samples during family visits were tested by standard milk adulteration detection tests and rapid home-based tests. Results: Among 330 tested milk samples, 233 samples were adulterated with one or more than one adulterant. The most common adulteration observed was the addition of water to milk, followed by detergent, urea, and neutralizer. The specificity of the rapid tests was found to be almost 100% in the detection of water and detergent in milk and accuracy was above 80%; with "substantial agreement" (kappa = 0.7) between rapid tests and standard tests on kappa statistics. Conclusion: The present study has identified a large extent of milk adulteration and common adulterants, which may have harmful effects on health. Incineration bottom ash (IBA) is a by-product generated from incineration of municipal solid wastes, and it is mostly landfilled, especially for fine IBA. Reusing IBA with waste soils as filling materials in civil engineering can be a potential solution. However, the existing studies only focused on the air-cured IBA-soil mixtures in the laboratory, whereas in the field, the mixtures may contact water or immerse in water. Because IBA is rich in sulfates, the stability of IBA-soil mixtures in water may be compromised. Therefore, this study investigated the stability of IBA-marine clay (MC) mixtures in water. Ordinary portland cement (OPC) and granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) served as binders to stabilize/solidify IBA-MC. The appearance, strength, mineralogy, and microstructure of IBA-MC, OPC-IBA-MC, and GGBS-IBA-MC were studied. The results showed that all mixtures performed well when cured in air, but some deteriorated after soaking in water. IBA-MC and OPC-IBA-MC subjected to a short precuring period developed significant cracks and strength loss. Long precuring can reduce or eliminate the cracks on specimens during soaking, leading to higher strength. However, GGBS-IBA-MC had no surficial defects and only a slight strength decrease under both precuring periods. The mineralogy and microstructure of IBA-MC and stabilized IBA-MC revealed that the formation and growth of ettringite were responsible for the deterioration of IBA-MC and OPC-IBA-MC soaking in water. The distribution of rare alkalis (Li, Rb, and Cs) is analyzed in spatially linked water objects of the Baikal geosystem: water of Baikal and its tributaries, underground water from boreholes and thermal springs, and the Angara River (the sole outlet), which are located in the Baikal rift zone. The rare alkali content differs significantly in some water objects, but the average and median contents are similar in the surface and deep water of Lake Baikal and the Angara River. The water of Barguzin thermal springs of the eastern shore of Lake Baikal contains the maximum amount of rare alkalis, but this affects the Baikal water insignificantly due to its natural self-cleaning and deep renewal of water during geodynamic movements. The similar rare alkali contents of Barguzin and some thermal springs of Kamchatka emphasize their indicator role in the genesis of water objects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, we extend a theory of disorientations to reveal how attempts to fix and control both water and people are disrupting once‐fluid relationships between the Tonle Sap Lake and communities who have lived with‐on the lake for generations. Using ethnographic and participatory mapping methods, we examine the socio‐ecological dynamics that preceded and succeeded in the forced relocation of three floating communities in 2018. We argue that communities' experiences challenge land‐centric and event‐centric understandings of displacement that pathologise fluid lifeways and fail to account for the materiality of water that has shaped floating villages' multi‐generational relationships with their wetland ecology. We develop the concept of disorientations to illuminate villagers' experiences of relocation within a collapsing aquatic ecosystem—a collapse catalysed by state efforts to impose fixity on both hydrological flow and community mobility. The dielectric constant (ε′) and dielectric loss (ε″) of pure honey (PH) and honey-water mixtures have been measured over 20 Hz − 20 GHz frequency range, at 26 °C using a precision LCR meter and a Vector Network Analyzer. It has been observed that as water proportion in honey increases, ε′ and ε″ increases over the given frequency range. The dielectric relaxation peak of ε″ for honey-water mixture in the microwave frequency range shifts towards relaxation peak of water as amount of water in honey increases. The normalized ε′/ε′PH ratio is found to increase with increase in water content in Honey, reaching up to 1000 over 20 Hz to 2 kHz. In frequency range from 500 MHz to 5 GHz, ε′/ε′PH ratio approaches a value of 10 times at 750 mg/g. Over 20 Hz to 2 MHz frequency range, ε″/ε″PH ratio approaches 100 times that of PH, but over frequency range from 200 MHz to 600 MHz the ratio ε″/ε″PH is found to decrease anomalously with increase in water content in PH. Further, over the frequency range from 8.2 GHz to 20 GHz the ε″/ε″PH ratio continuously increases with increase in water content. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
