We studied the temperature-dependent behavior of dark solitons in superfluid Fermi gases along the BCS–BEC crossover by solving the finite-temperature Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. The notch depth of the soliton density distribution decreases with the increase in temperature in the whole BCS–BEC crossover. In particular, the notch depth has an obvious different temperature-dependent behavior from the BCS regime to the BEC regime, i.e, it has a concave function in the BCS regime, linear function in the unitary regime and convex function in the BEC regime. Water Cherenkov detector array (WCDA) is one of the key parts of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), the construction of which was completed by the end of 2020. The WCDA covers a 78 000-m2 area and there exist 3120 large size photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) in three ponds: 8-in PMTs are used in WCDA pond No. 1 and 20-in PMTs are used in ponds No. 2 and No. 3. The front-end electronics (FEE) system based on multigain measurement technique is designed to achieve both high-precision time and charge measurements over a large dynamic range from single photon electron (S.P.E.) to 4000 P.E. (for water pond No. 1)/1800 P.E. (for water ponds No. 2 and No. 3). To achieve a high-quality clock distribution and phase alignment as well as mixed transmission of data, clock, and commands in one fiber over a long distance, an enhanced white rabbit (WR) technique is used. Testing of all the 350 FEE modules for the WCDA is presented in this article. Test results indicate that the charge resolution is better than 20% at S.P.E. and 1% at 1800/4000 P.E. and the time resolution is better than 300 ps root mean square (rms), which successfully meets the application requirement. All the FEE modules have been fabricated and installed for the LHAASO WCDA from 2018 to 2020, and the initial commissioning operation indicates that the FEEs function well. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The focal plane camera is the core component of the Wide Field-of-view Cherenkov/fluorescence Telescope Array (WFCTA) of the Large High-Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). Because of the capability of working under moonlight without aging, silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) have been proven to be not only an alternative but also an improvement to conventional photomultiplier tubes (PMT) in this application. Eighteen SiPM-based cameras with square light funnels have been built for WFCTA. The telescopes have collected more than 100 million cosmic ray events and preliminary results indicate that these cameras are capable of working under moonlight. The characteristics of the light funnels and SiPMs pose challenges (e.g. dynamic range, dark count rate, assembly techniques). In this paper, we present the design features, manufacturing techniques and performances of these cameras. Angiotensin II (Ang II) has been strongly associated with biological behavior in human malignant tumors; nevertheless, its function in hepatic carcinoma growth and progression is still not well understood. This study investigates the effect and mechanism of Ang II on the HepG2 and Hep3B hepatic carcinoma cell lines in vitro. The effect of Ang II on HepG2 and Hep3B cell viability was examined by cell counting kit-8 assay (CCK-8). Quantitative real-time PCR and Western blot analysis detected the expression of angiotensin type 1 and type 2 receptors (AT1 and AT2), total extra-cellular signalregulated kinases 1/2 (ERK1/2), phospho-ERK1/2 (p-ERK1/2) and Bcl-2 and c-Myc. Ang II significantly promoted HepG2 cell proliferation by affecting AT1 and AT2 expression and induced ERK1/2 pathway activation. This was reversed by treating HepG2 and Hep3B cells with AT1 blockers; candesartan, Raf inhibitor sorafenib, and ERK1/2 inhibitor PD98059. Ang II also up-regulated the expression of Bcl-2 and c-Myc in HepG2 cells, and our results suggest that Ang II has a positive role in HepG2 and Hep3B cell proliferation through the AT1/Raf/ERK1/2 signaling pathway. Dental caries is prevalent, and secondary caries causes restoration failures. This article reviews recent studies on developing a new generation of bioactive resins with anticaries properties. Extensive effects were made to develop new antimicrobial composites, bonding agents, and other resins containing quaternary ammonium methacrylates to suppress plaque buildup and bacterial acid production. The effects of alkyl chain length and charge density and the antimicrobial mechanisms for chlorhexidine, nano-silver, quaternary ammonium methacrylates, and protein-repellent agents were discussed. Synergistic effects of contact-killing and protein-repellent properties were shown to yield the greatest biofilm-inhibition effects. The combination of antimicrobial, protein-repellent, and calcium phosphate nanoparticle remineralization was suggested to provide maximal anticaries effects. In addition, for use orally, cytotoxicity and biocompatibility were important considerations for the new bioactive materials. Furthermore, rather than kill all bacteria, it would be more desirable to modulate the oral biofilm compositions via bioactive resins to suppress cariogenic/pathogenic species and promote benign species. For widespread clinical use of the new antimicrobial and therapeutic materials, whether they would induce bacterial drug resistance needs to be determined, which requires further study. Nanocrystalline antiperovskite GaNxMn3 powders were prepared by mechanically milling. The micrograin GaNxMn3 exhibits an abrupt volume contraction at the antiferromagnetic (AFM) to paramagnetic (PM) (AFM-PM) transition. The temperature window of volume contraction (ΔT) is broadened to 50 K as the average grain size (〈D〉) is reduced to ~30 nm. The corresponding coefficient of linear thermal expansion (α) reaches ~ -70 ppm/K, which are comparable to those of giant NTE materials. Further reducing 〈D〉 to ~10 nm, ΔT exceeds 100 K and α remains as large as -30 ppm/K (-21 ppm/K) for x = 1.0 (x = 0.9). Excess atomic displacements together with the reduced structural coherence, revealed by high-energy X-ray pair distribution functions, are suggested to delay the AFM-PM transition. By controlling 〈D〉, giant NTE may also be achievable in other materials with large lattice contraction due to electronic or magnetic phase transitions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We perform first principles density functional theory calculations to investigate the atomic structures, electronic structures and magnetic properties of dopant complexes involving Ag and N in graphene-like ZnO sheet (Gr-ZnO). The results indicate that monodoping of N in Gr-ZnO favours a spin polarised state. Ag substituted on the cation site (AgZn) acts as a single acceptor and exhibits a strong attractive interaction with a nitrogen acceptor located at the nearest neighbour oxygen site, forming passive Ag-N complex. By introducing a higher concentration of nitrogen, Ag-2N complex forms. The ferromagnetism is decreased, but the formation energy can be evidently reduced for the defective system. Our findings suggest that (Ag,N) codoping of Gr-ZnO could turn the ferromagnetic stability and is likely to yield better p-type conductivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses a study examining the relationship between mandibular height and the growth hormone receptor (GHR) gene in Chinese people. DNA was extracted from blood leukocytes from Chinese people of the Han ethnic group with and without short mandibular height. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification was performed. Craniofacial measurements were performed using lateral cephalograms and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was administered to determine body height and ANB angle. Linkage disequilibrium (LD) was measured along differences in single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Analysis revealed several SNPs within GHR genes.
