Chemical investigation of a culture broth from the marine-derived fungus Pyrrhoderma noxium HNNU0524 yielded two new compounds including a drimane-type sesquiterpenoid named pyrrnoxin A (1) and a benzoic acid derivative, pyrrnoxin B (5), together with three related known analogues (2–4). The chemical structures of 1 and 5 were determined by detailed analysis of spectroscopic data, single-crystal X-ray crystallography, quantum mechanics-based DP4+ and ECD calculations. A new biphenyl compound: 5-aldehyde-4′-hydroxy-2,2′-dimethoxybiphenyl (1), along with 11 known phenolic compounds (2–12) were isolated from the stem of Ficus pumila Linn. Comprehensive Summary: Fifteen new meroterpenoids, littoreanoids A—O (1—15), including three rearranged skeleton meroterpenoids (1—3), were isolated from the mangrove‐derived fungus Penicillium sp. HLLG‐122. Compound 1 was a novel berkeleyacetal‐derived meroterpenoid featuring an unusual spirocyclic 2‐oxaspiro[5.5]undeca‐4,7‐dien‐3‐one moiety. Compound 2 possessed an unusual 6/6/6/6/6 pentacyclic system with a novel 1‐hydroxy‐7,7‐dimethyl‐2‐oxabicyclo[2.2.2]octan‐5‐yl acetate moiety. Compound 3 was an unusual 6/7/6/5/6/5/4 polycyclic systems containing a β‐lactone ring. The structures and absolute configurations of new compounds were elucidated by HRESIMS, NMR spectroscopy, single crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis, and electronic circular dichroism calculations. The phytochemical study on the stems and leaves of Morinda citrifolia L. resulted in the isolation of a new naturally occurring bisabolane-type sesquiterpenoid, morincitrinoid A (1), together with five known analogues (2–6). The chemical structure of 1 was elucidated by comprehensive spectral analyses. The known compounds 2–6 were identified by comparing their spectral data with those reported in the literature, which were isolated from M. citrifolia for the first time. In addition, the anti-inflammatory and anti-HIV activities of compounds 1–6 were evaluated in vitro. Four previously undescribed highly oxygenated diterpenoids (1–4), zeylleucapenoids A–D, characterized by halimane and labdane skeletons, were isolated from the aerial parts of Leucas zeylanica. Their structures were elucidated primarily via NMR experiments. The absolute configuration of 1 was established using theoretical ECD calculations and X-ray crystallographic analysis, whereas those for 2–4 were assigned using theoretical ORD calculations. Zeylleucapenoids A–D were tested for anti-inflammatory activity against nitric oxide (NO) production in RAW264.7 macrophages, of which only 4 showed significant efficacy with an IC50 value of 38.45 μM. Further, active compound 4 was also evaluated for the inhibition of the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6 and was found to have a dose-dependent inhibitory effect, while it showed nontoxic activity for zebrafish embryos. A subsequent Western blotting experiment revealed that 4 inhibited the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Two new flavanoids fissistiganoids A and B (1 and 2), together with two known pterocarpans derivatives (3 and 4), were isolated from the stems of Fissistigma tungfangense. Six new isocoumarin derivative talaromarins A-F (1–6), along with 17 known analogues (7–23), were isolated from the mangrove-derived fungus Talaromyces flavus (Eurotiales: Trichocomaceae) TGGP35. Their structures were identified by detailed IR, UV, 1D/2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS spectra. The absolute configurations of new compounds were determined by the modified Mosher's method and a comparison of their CD spectra with dihydroisocoumarins described in the literature. The antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-phytopathogenic and inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase of all the isolated compounds were tested. Compounds 6–11, 17–19 and 21–22 showed similar or better antioxidant activity than the IC50 values ranging from 0.009 to 0.27 mM, compared with the positive control trolox (IC50 = 0.29 mM). Compounds 10, 18, 21 and 23 exhibited strong inhibitory activities against α-glucosidase with IC50 values ranging from 0.10 to 0.62 mM, while the positive control acarbose had an IC50 value of 0.5 mM. All compounds showed no antibacterial or anti-phytopathogenic activity at the concentrations of 50 μg/mL and 1 mg/mL, respectively. One new piperazinedione derivative, nigerpiperazine A (1), along with six known compounds (2–7) were isolated from the fungus Aspergillus niger JX-5 from mangrove Ceriops tagal. The strong antibacterial, antiviral and anticancer activities demonstrated by quinolones make them promising lead structures and important synthetic targets for drug discovery. Here, we report, to the best of our knowledge, the first scalable total synthesis of antiviral (+)-aniduquinolone A, possessing a 3,4-dioxygenated 5-hydroxy-4-aryl-quinolin-2(1H)-one skeleton. This synthetic strategy explores E-stereoselective Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons (HWE) olefination as the key step to assemble isopropenyl substituted tetrahydrofuran onto the 3,4-dioxygenated 5-hydroxy-4-aryl-quinolin-2(1H)-one core, which is built by highly diastereoselective intramolecular aldol reaction. Moreover, two sets of stereoisomers of aniduquinolone A with substantially overlapping NMR data were synthesized completely and assigned unambiguously by comprehensive analysis of both their spectroscopic and X-ray diffraction data. Unexpectedly, aflaquinolones A, C, and D that feature different 2,4-dimethyl cyclohexanone moieties were transformed successfully from (+)-aniduquinolone A by treating with TFA. The methodology delineated herein can be applied broadly to the synthesis of natural alkaloids containing the core structure of 3,4-dioxygenated 5-hydroxy-4-aryl-quinolin-2(1H)-one. Quinolones can possess desirable antibacterial, antiviral and anticancer properties, rending them important synthetic targets for drug discovery purposes. It is usually difficult to remove dibenzothiophenes from diesel fuels by oxidation with molecular oxygen as an oxidant. In the study, tungsten oxide was supported on magnetic mesoporous silica by calcination to form a magnetically separable catalyst for oxidative desulfurization of diesel fuel. By tuning different calcining temperatures, the catalyst calcined at 500 °C showed a high catalytic activity with molecular oxygen as the oxidant. Under optimal reaction conditions, the sulfur removal of DBT reached 99.9% at 120 °C after 8 h. Furthermore, the removals of 4-methyldibenzothiophene and 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene could also get up to 98.2% and 92.3% under the same conditions. Two new iridium (III) complexes (Ir1‐Ir2) bearing different fluorinated 2‐(biphenyl‐4‐yl)‐2H‐indazole‐based compounds as cyclometalated ligands and Xantphos as an ancillary ligand were synthesized and fully characterized. Phytochemical investigation of the stems of Vatica mangachapoi (Dipterocarpaceae) led to the isolation and structural elucidation of twenty-seven oligostilbenes (1–27), including a new natural compound 1. A new family of mononuclear (1–2) and dinuclear (3–5) cationic iridium(III) complexes have been synthesized and fully characterized. These complexes contain 2‐(4‐(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)pyridine (cf3ppy, L1) and 1‐(4‐(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)isoquinoline (cf3piq, L2) as cyclometalating ligands, 1,10‐phenanthroline (LX‐1) as the ancillary ligand and 1,4‐bis(1‐phenyl‐1H‐imidazo[4,5‐f][1,10]phenanthrolin‐2‐yl)benzene (biphen, LX‐2) as the bridging ligand. The crystal structure of LX‐2 has been determined by X‐ray analysis. All of the complexes are green‐red emissive with quantum yields of 16.6–93.5 % and lifetimes of 1.66–2.89 µs in solution at room temperature. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been carried out to gain insight into the nature of the low‐lying transitions and also to rationalize the electrochemical and photophysical properties. These research results reveal that the π‐conjugation system of C^N ligands and the diiridium system with conjugated bridging ligand are both benefical for the red‐shift of the absorption and emission spectra. A new morphinandienone alkaloid, fissistigmine A (1), together with three known alkaloids (2−4), were isolated and identified from the stems of Fissistigma tungfangense.
