Aim: The Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) is a novel inflammation biomarker that reflects the nutritional and inflammatory status of patients. While there are studies on its use in cancer, cardiovascular, and renal diseases, there are no studies on preterm neonatal late sepsis. This study aims to emphasize the value of PNI in neonatal sepsis. Materials and Methods: Newborns with a birth weight of less than 1500 grams and a gestational age of less than 32 weeks, along with healthy controls, were included in the study. The ability of PNI to predict sepsis, septic shock, and mortality was evaluated. Results: PNI was an independent and inversely related parameter to the presence and severity of neonatal sepsis. The cut-off value of PNI to predict the presence of sepsis was =49.5, with a sensitivity of 98.3% (95% CI: 91.1-100.0) and a specificity of 96% (95% CI: 86.3-99.5). The area under the curve (AUC) was 0.995 (95% CI: 0.957-1.000) (p<0.001). The optimum cut-off value of PNI to predict the presence of septic shock was =37.1, with a sensitivity of 92.3% (95% CI: 64.0-99.8) and a specificity of 77.3% (95% CI: 67.7-85.2). The AUC was 0.894 (95% CI: 0.821-0.945) (p<0.001). The optimum cut-off value of PNI to predict mortality was =37, with a sensitivity of 92.3% (95% CI: 64.0-99.8) and a specificity of 78.4% (95% CI: 68.8-86.1). The AUC was 0.899 (95% CI: 0.827-0.948) (p<0.001). Conclusion: PNI can be used as an independent dynamic biomarker to predict the presence and prognosis of neonatal sepsis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is characterized by hyperandrogenism, ovulatory dysfunction, insulin resistance, and obesity, affects 8-26% of adolescent girls. The effects of polycystic ovarian syndrome on the hematologic and coagulation systems have received little attention. We aimed to investigate the hematologic and coagulation system disorders in PCOS. Materials and Methods: The study included 40 adolescents with PCOS and 41 healthy controls. Hemostatic and coagulation system parameters evaluated in both groups and were compared with metabolic parameters. Results: Adolescent's with PCOS had a significantly higher insulin, HOMAIR levels, and Hematocrit (Hct) levels than the control group, but no significant difference was found in D-dimer, fibrinogen, protein C, protein S, Antitrombine III levels. A positive correlation was found between insulin and HOMA-IR values and hemoglobin (Hgb), Hct, white blood cell (WBC) levels (r=0.32 p=0.003; r=0.33 p=0.002; r=0.36 p=0.001, respectively); also a positive correlation was found between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) and WBC values (r=0.26 p=0.01). A positive correlation was found between follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and Protein C and Protein S (r=0.41 p=0.008; r=0.31 p=0.04); total testosterone and fibrinogen levels (r=0, 32 p=0.04); Dehydroepiandrostenedione sulfate (DHEAS) and protein S levels (r=0.31 p=0.04). Conclusion: There was no significant difference in the hematologic and coagulation parameters between PCOS and healthy controls. Hypercoagulated state in PCOS is associated with obesity, BMI, inflammation, and insulin resistance, not specific to the disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HEAT transfer coefficient ,PATTERN recognition systems ,HEAT convection ,HEAT transfer ,CRYSTALLIZATION ,MACHINE learning - Abstract
A hybrid model is developed and evaluated to simulate the heat and mass transfer in the crystallization unit of a sugar factory. While the mass transfer is modeled by using the kinetic growth rate model, the heat transfer is simulated by applying the energy balance to the model. Here, the overall convection heat transfer coefficient of the crystallizer's heat exchanger is considered as a temperature-dependent function. As this makes the governing equations more realistic, it can help to increase the model accuracy. Additionally, a thorough examination of key practical equations and principles governing the sugar crystallization process is presented. A regression learner method is applied to extract the pattern of the overall heat transfer coefficient. According to our results, the regression learning model successfully predicts the heat transfer coefficient with an average 7% deviation from experimental results. For the hybrid model, an average deviation of about 10% is observed. The crystallizer's behavior is somehow linear, indicating a constant growth rate of sugar crystals. Furthermore, the heat transfer in the crystallizer is improved by increasing the working temperatures. Practical applications The method and obtained results of this work could be used in the following practical purposes: to find the optimum working temperatures of crystallizers used in sugar industry and to predict total working time of batch crystallizers versus working parameters. Recent research focuses on optimal design of thermal energy storage (TES) systems for various plants and processes, using advanced optimization techniques. There is a wide range of TES technologies for diverse thermal applications, each with unique technical and economic characteristics. Matching an application with the most suitable TES system remains challenging. This study proposes an eight‐step design methodology guiding the process from describing the thermal process to defining the most appropriate TES based on constraints and requirements. The steps include specifying the thermal process, system design parameters, storage characteristics, integration parameters, key performance indicators, optimization method, tools, and design robustness. Seven already‐designed TES systems are evaluated to assess the methodology's effectiveness, where the design procedures have been adapted to the proposed steps. Case studies involve various applications with both sensible and latent TES systems, demonstrating the applicability of the proposed design procedure. A significant diversity exists among the design cases regarding the design objective, input, design, and output parameters. Nevertheless, the design procedure in each case can be deconstructed into the outlined design steps. The last design step has been excluded from all case studies due to insufficient information regarding the robustness of the design process. The paper demonstrates how a methodical approach can be applied to examine the TES design and the integration. The design steps proposed in this study can serve as a foundation for developing a more systematic approach for designing TES systems in future works, resulting in simplifying the design process. Nowadays, the utilization of sugar substitutes in bakery products can be demanded on the assumption that they are healthier. However, the use of ingredients containing reducing sugars in heat-treated products may increase the formation of some toxic compounds. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the safety of using honey/pekmez as sugar substitutes in bakery products in terms of acrylamide. Acrylamide concentrations as well as the quality characteristics of sponge cakes and cookies containing pekmez/honey as sugar substitutes were determined. Acrylamide levels in sponge cake control group and honey sponge cake samples remained below the limit of detection. However, acrylamide concentrations were determined as 141.36 ± 4.21, 162.82 ± 3.63, and 195.67 ± 0.85 ng/g in samples containing pekmez at percentages of 60%, 80%, and 100% as sugar substitutes in sponge cakes formulations, respectively. While acrylamide was determined as 30.97 ± 4.68 ng/g in cookie control group, concentrations in samples containing pekmez at percentages of 60%, 80%, and 100% as sugar substitutes in formulations were 824.3 ± 27.47, 1274.04 ± 7.59 and 1468.32 ± 55.48 ng/g, respectively. 374.25 ± 19.37, 495.63 ± 2.89, and 598.63 ± 12.95 ng/g acrylamide were detected in the cookie samples containing honey at the aforementioned percentages in formulations. As a result, adding pekmez/honey in bakery products to reduce refined sugar intake can significantly increase acrylamide concentrations of these products. Similar practices made to reduce refined sugar intake can turn into an application that increases exposure to acrylamide, a toxic compound. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The fact that taking an action about controlling urban growth to minimize risks and adopt climate change is considerably significant in this century. This study explores the influence of urban growth dynamics on climate change indicators in İstanbul, Türkiye's largest metropolitan area. Unlike many other studies that primarily focus on individual indicators, this research comprehensively examines the association between urban growth indicators (UGIs) and climate change impacts (CCIs) by defining direct and indirect relations, contributing valuable insights to the literature by considering the main components of urban growth in the context of urban areas. Primarily, the literature was reviewed to release CCIs originated from urban growth and to highlight UGIs. After the study area was chosen as an İstanbul, population rate, economic structure and quality of life (QoL) as three main indicators of urban growth one by one were examined and some values/indexes about UGIs was compared with the İstanbul's value. Fuzzy Decision Making Technique (FDMT) in MATLAB programme was chosen as a methodology to be applied through main indicators which affect CCI in İstanbul. What the urban growth dynamics have effects on climate change was concluded by FDMT graphs that had been interpreted through five scenarios (the worst, bad, medium, good, the best). The study's results reveal a significant correlation between population, economy, QoL, and CCIs. Specifically, it is proof that a high population rate, low economic wealth, and low QoL are associated with heightened CCIs in İstanbul. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Histopathological examination of the effects of Tisseel, Cova, Glubran and Coseal, which are used for sealing purposes in spinal surgery practice, on epidural fibrosis is aimed. Methods: Forty Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into five groups in our study as Group 1 (n=8) control group (Laminectomy); Group 2 (n=8) Cova group (Laminectomy + Cova); Group 3 (n=8) Tissel group (Laminectomy + Tisseel); Group 4 (n=8) Coseal group (Laminectomy + Coseal); and Group 5 Glubrane group (Laminectomy + Glubrane). Control group was only applied laminectomy. After laminectomy to other groups, Cova was applied to the 2nd group, Tissel to the 3rd group, Coseal to the 4th group and Glubran to the 5th group in surgical fields. After the rats were monitored in separate cages for 6 weeks after the operation, the relevant spinal level was extracted and the samples were examined histopathologically and the results were evaluated statistically. Results: It was found that there was a statistically significant difference in Tisseel and Glubran groups in terms of fibrosis grading compared to the control group, and this had a positive effect on fibrosis. Compared to the control group, there was no statistically significant difference on fibrosis in Cova and Coseal groups. Conclusion: As dura adhesive agents used in spinal surgery practice did not increase spinal epidural fibrosis statistically significantly, we concluded that these products can be used safely during spinal surgery if necessary. Low back pain has been recorded as the second most common pathology in adults. Irregularities in the zygapophyseal joints constitute one of the most well-known pathologies in this type of pain. Medial branch blocks and intra-articular injections have been used for the treatment. Local corticosteroid injections are also reliable for the treatment of low back pain. This study aims to compare the efficiency, in terms of low back pain palliation, of "intra-articular injection of local anesthetic and steroid drug combination" and "oral pain reliever and muscle relaxant combination" in the treatment of diagnosed non-discogenic low back pain. After Ethics Committee aproval 96 patients who had applied to outpatient clinic with low back pain complaints and were then treated for the diagnosis of facet joint pain between 2016 June -2019 June were examined. This retrospective study included 80 patients whose records were properly recorded and followed up in the scope of this one-center. Patients were classified into two groups; those given oral pain killers and muscle relaxants (n=40) and those who injected steroids and local anesthetics into the lumbar facet joint (n=40). Pain scores significantly decreased in both groups. When the low back pain is not discogenic, the patient should be subjected to further examination, and pain treatment should be started since this painful condition results in severe labor loss in society. We suggest that oral treatment or combined injections of steroids and local anesthetics for the cases, whose low back pain is determined to originate from the lumbar facet joint, will be very effective in therapeutic pain relief. - Abstract
Background: Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) V617F gene mutation is an important marker for the diagnosis of Philadelphia negative Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) which is subdivided into Polycythemia Vera (PV), Primary Myelofibrosis (PMF), and Essential Thrombocythemia (ET). The aim here is to investigate the JAK2 allele burden of the patients diagnosed with the subgroups of MPN and to demonstrate the alterations of hematological parameters and spleen size between diagnosis and 6 months of treatment. Methods: A total of 107 patients with the diagnosis of MPN and negative Philadelphia chromosome, 51 males and 56 females with a mean age of 59,74 ± 16,41 years, were included in the study. Diagnosis of MPN was based on the World Health Organization (WHO) criteria. Subgroups of MPN distributed as 49,5% ET, 46,7% PV, and 3,8% PMF. Findings such as the age of the patients, JAK-2 allele burden, and laboratory findings of splenomegaly were examined at the time of diagnosis, 3rd month, and 6th month. JAK2 allele burden and spleen size were re-evaluated in 6th month. Results: Our study confirmed the findings of high Hb, HCT, and RBC but low platelet values in PV patients with high JAK2 allele burden with respect to other groups, a positive correlation between JAK2 allele burden and LDH. Conclusions: A novel finding of our study is, that there is not any reducing effect of the phlebotomy on JAK2 allele burden in PV patients whether they receive phlebotomy or not. Evaluation of the spleen size alteration during 6 months within the subgroups demonstrated a decrease in PV and ET groups whereas no statistically significant difference was found in the PMF group. Objective: The dysregulation of metabolism is a hallmark of cancer. Enzymes of tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle have a key role in pathogenesis of carcinogenesis as oncometabolits. The variants in fumarate hydratase (FH) gene have been linked to sporadic tumors and familial tumor propensity. To asses the prevalence of variants in the FH gene in endometrial carcinoma (EC) and uterine leiomyomas (UL). Material and Methods: This prospective study included 58 patients with EC and 44 with UL. The FH gene variants were analyzed in the DNA samples collected from peripheral circulation. All exons of the FH gene were replicated by polymerase chain reaction utilizing specific primers including intron-exon boundaries and than was sequenced with Sanger method. Results: Only two variants were detected in two different patients. The c.927G>A (p.Pro309Pro) and c.63C>T (p.Ala21Ala) variants were observed in patients with UL, EC respectively. c.927G>A (p.Pro309=) and c.63C>T (p.Ala21=) are rare variants inside the overall population with allele frequency ranges of 0.02428, 0.000014 respectively. Conclusion: The contribution of variants in genes encoding the TCA cycle enzymes in tumor cells has provided understanding fundamental role on metabolic alterations in carcinogenesis. Further studies are needed to discover the novel tumor mutations and identify appropriate treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Failed Back Surgery Syndrome (FBSS) refers to a subset of patients who have new or persistent pain after spinal surgery for back or leg pain. Epidural fibrosis (EF) is a common cause of FBSS. Many agents aiming to prevent EF have been tested. However, hemostatic agents are readily available at hospitals, easy to reach and frequently used. For these reasons, oxidized regenerated cellulose, polysaccharide hemostat, hemostatic thrombin-gelatin matrix and chitosan linear polymer were evaluated for their effects on epidural fibrosis on rats after laminectomy. 40 Sprague–Dawley rats were randomly divided into 5 equal groups including the control group where only the laminectomy was performed. The other 4 groups received hemostatic agents after laminectomy. The rats were euthanized 45 days later and were assessed by a blinded observer to grade the fibrosis level. The study revealed that oxidized regenerated cellulose, polysaccharide hemostat and hemostatic thrombin-gelatin matrix lowered the epidural fibrosis grade which was statistically significant (p < 0.001). Although chitosan linear polymer created fibrosis similar to the control group it was not proven to be statistically significant (p = 0.8999). However, when compared with other hemostatic agents it resulted in a higher fibrosis grade (p < 0.001). The results obtained from this experimental study revealed that Pahacel, Sealfoam and Surgiflo, were effective in reducing epidural fibrosis after laminectomy in rats. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

People fare in outbreaks of emerging infections based on social factors shaping their exposure and vulnerability to the virus. This different exposure cause a disproportionate share of prevalence among people with various socioeconomic statuses. Therefore, socioeconomic-based control strategies are needed to control the discrepancy in prevalence among socioeconomic groups. We propose and analyze a SIR mathematical model that is grouped based on individuals' income level (representing socioeconomic status). For the model's parameter, we use properties of a real-world social network of individuals residing in New Orleans, Louisiana. We then distribute the social distancing practice among different groups to minimize a multi-objective function of infection characteristics (final epidemic size) and the discrepancy of prevalence among them (infection inequality). Our result confirms the importance of the heterogeneous distribution of social distancing practices among various socioeconomic groups to reduce observed infection inequality. At the same time, it does not considerably impact the final epidemic size. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Mesenchymal stem cells are multipotent cells of mesodermal origin, which have the ability to differentiate into other cells in the bone marrow microenvironment under suitable conditions in vitro. Homeopathy is a holistic practice method that aims to improve health status with personalized homeopathic medicines. Studies evaluating the effect of homeopathic remedies in the field of stem cells are rarely encountered in the literature. In our study, it has been aimed to observe their proliferative effects. Material and Methods: Mesenchymal stem cells were exposed to 10%, 20%, 50% and 100% ratios of homeopathic remedies (30°C potency: Aloe, Calendula, Hypericum, Staphysagria) for 24 and 48 hours. The percent viability of cells at 24 and 48 hours was evaluated with the MTT test. Results: Aloe vera C30 - Staphysagria C30 - Calencula C30 - Hypericum C30 remedies were found to have an effect on mesenchymal stem cell proliferation at all doses, and the results were statistically more significant when maintained in 10% media. Conclusion: It is thought that the methodology used in this study on working methods with homeopathic remedies will contribute to the literature and many scientific studies to be done in the future. People currently spend much of their most productive time at work place. Due to recent remote work and similar processes made possible by sophisticated developments in information technologies, it would not be wrong to to suggest that employees have been in interaction with their job for 24/7. Therefore feelings of employees about their job consist areas of research, one of which is job satisfaction. Although there is a a variety of approaches to relationships between job satisfaction and work performance, what is generally accepted is that job satisfaction influences both individual and organizational work performances/satisfaction. Likewise, numerous factors with impacts on job satisfaction exist. The current study examined influences of Personality Contribution to Job of top managers and executives. The consequences of the research on face to face interview with thirty executives indicated that job satisfaction tended to create different impacts on managers who have status and managerial experiences in organizations of different industries. Immunoassays are widely used analytical techniques in clinical laboratories, which can be affected by interference, leading to erroneous test results. We present the case of a 38-year-old female patient with a thyroid nodule, who had been followed up with since 2012, was not taking medication, and had an implausible elevation of Ca 19-9, a commonly used biomarker for gastrointestinal malignancies. Interference arising from heterophilic antibodies in the differential diagnosis was considered. Measurements were repeated with the same patient sample on three different immunoassay analyzers. Ca 19-9 levels measured with the Abbott Architect i2000 device were high, while the results from the latter two instruments (COBAS e601 and ADVIA Centaur CP) were within normal limits. Serial dilutions of serum samples revealed non-linearity, suggesting assay interference. The heterophilic blocking tube procedure and polyethylene glycol precipitation resulted in a normal range of Ca 19-9 levels, confirming that a heterophile antibody interaction was the most likely cause of the abnormal results. In this paper, we present a narrative review of the current literature pertaining to false-positive Ca 19-9 caused by interference. We propose close collaboration between clinicians and the laboratory before exposing patients to the cost of additional testing when clinical non-compliance is suspected. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
It is well known in the literature that human behavior can change as a reaction to disease observed in others, and that such behavioral changes can be an important factor in the spread of an epidemic. It has been noted that human behavioral traits in disease avoidance are under selection in the presence of infectious diseases. Here, we explore a complementary trend: the pathogen itself might experience a force of selection to become less “visible,” or less “symptomatic,” in the presence of such human behavioral trends. Using a stochastic SIR agent-based model, we investigated the co-evolution of two viral strains with cross-immunity, where the resident strain is symptomatic while the mutant strain is asymptomatic. We assumed that individuals exercised self-regulated social distancing (SD) behavior if one of their neighbors was infected with a symptomatic strain. We observed that the proportion of asymptomatic carriers increased over time with a stronger effect corresponding to higher levels of self-regulated SD. Adding mandated SD made the effect more significant, while the existence of a time-delay between the onset of infection and the change of behavior reduced the advantage of the asymptomatic strain. These results were consistent under random geometric networks, scale-free networks, and a synthetic network that represented the social behavior of the residents of New Orleans. In the present study, it was aimed to screen the genotypes of human papillomavirus (HPV) retrospectively in women with gynecological symptoms who were admitted to a tertiary care university hospital in Ankara, Turkey. A total of 4267 cervical swab samples of women aged 18–79 years were sent to Medical Virology Laboratory from January 2017 to November 2020. Nucleic acid extraction and amplification of samples were done by an automated system. The test can detect 14 high‐risk HPV (HR‐HPV) types in a single analysis that performs a real‐time polymerase chain reaction, by providing individual results on the highest‐risk genotypes HPV 16 and HPV 18 and pooled results on other high‐risk genotypes (OHR‐HPV) (31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68). HPV DNA positivity was detected in 14.2% (605/4267) of the samples. HPV type 16 and type 18 were detected in 2.4% and 0.7% of the samples, respectively. OHR‐HPV types were found in 8.8% of the samples. Of the 1.9% and 0.4% samples had mixed types with type 16+ OHR‐HPV and type 18+ OHR‐HPV, respectively. The results of this study presented the rates of HR‐HPV genotypes of a university hospital in Ankara, over a 4‐year period. It was observed that the positivity rate of type 18 is decreasing and some OHR‐HPV types are increasing. HPV vaccination is not in the national immunization program in Turkey yet, however, HPV vaccines are available and the vaccination rates for women are increasing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: We aimed to compare thiol/disulfide hemostasis and serum ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) levels, which are indicators of oxidative stress (OS), in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), with the healthy control (HC) group and to evaluate the relationship of these parameters with disease activity and major organ involvement. Material-Methods: Eighty-four SLE patients and 96 HCs were included in this study. The disease activity of SLE patients was calculated using The Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index 2000 (SLEDAI-2K). Patients with SLEDAI-2K ≤ 5 were classified as low disease activity (LDA) and those with SLEDAI-2K > 6 as high disease activity (HDA). Thiol/disulfide hemostasis was evaluated using a new automated method and natural thiol (NT), total thiol (TT), disulfide (SS) levels, SS/NT, SS/TT, NT/TT ratios, and serum IMA levels were recorded. Results: NT and TT levels were significantly lower (490.11 ± 123.61 vs 536.96 ± 86.05, p = 0.003) (532.56 ± 125.80 vs 565.72 ± 89.82, p = 0.046), SS level (21.22 ± 11.75 vs 13.37 ± 9.31, p < 0.001) was higher, and SS/TT (4.64 ± 2.93 vs 2.52 ± 1.82, p < 0.001) and SS/NT (4.12 ± 2.33 vs 2.35 ± 1.59, p < 0.001) ratios were significantly higher in SLE patients compared to HCs. IMA values were not different between the two groups (p = 0.920). NT (449.84 ± 136.98 vs 520.32 ± 104.11, p = 0.012) and TT levels (492.01 ± 138.45±562.97 ± 107.09, p = 0.013) were significantly lower and serum IMA levels (0.802 ± 0.089 vs 0.764 ± 0.040, p = 0.023) were significantly higher in SLE patients with HDA than in LDA patients. There was a weak negative correlation between NT (r = −0.284, p =0.009) (r = −0.291, p = 0.007) and TT levels (r = −0.281, p = 0.010) (r = −0.289, p = 0.008) and a weak positive correlation between IMA levels (r = 0.279, p = 0.011) (r = 0.263, p = 0.016) and SLEDAI-2K, and major organ involvement. Conclusion: It is thought that thiol/disulfide hemostasis and IMA levels may be used as ideal biomarkers of OS in SLE patients and may reflect the disease activity and major organ involvement. Diffuse optical tomography (DOT) modality uses diffusion equation solution of low power laser distribution in the imaging tissue. DOT method has three main running mode and three geometric subbranches. Run modes are: Continuous Wave (CW), Time Resolved (TR) and Frequency Domain (FD) modes. These run modes might have transmission-through, back-reflected or ring geometry depend on the source and detector placements on tissue surface. In this work, we tested our novel imaging method on the frequency-domain back-reflected DOT simulation model. Our novelty is: selecting a great number of multi-frequency data in the wide frequency spectrum which was not tested before in the literature. Most of the literature works consist of narrow frequency band with the limited number of frequencies such as maximum 12 multi-frequency-data which cover from 100 up to 700 MHz. In our work, we tested and compared reconstructed inclusion images generated by our 500 wide spectrum multi-frequency data versus reconstructed inclusion images generated by 20 narrow band multi-frequency data which was generally used in FD DOT studies. We observed that our novel imaging method which used wide spectrum multi-frequency data is superior to the traditionally used narrow-band multi-frequency method based on the reconstructed inclusion image localization errors. Since most of the homogenous geometry consists of fat tissue, we selected background absorption coefficient µ
a = 0.2 cm−1 and tissue scattering coefficient μs = 80 cm−1 for 800 nm laser source wavelength. Three-dimensional cubic imaging simulation media has 75-mm grid sizes in each direction. Two different imaging scenarios were tested. In the first scenario, one inclusion with absorption coefficient µa = 0.7 cm−1 was put inside the three-dimensional imaging geometry at 27 mm depth. In the second scenario one inclusion with absorption coefficient µa = 0.7 cm−1 was embedded in 48 mm depth location. Inclusions are cubic and they have 6 mm xyz length at each direction. Purpose: New viruses have emerged, causing global damage and mass deaths that can spread to international borders, the latest of which is the new coronavirus (COVID-19). After the Second International Congress on Artificial Intelligence in Health, themed "Artificial Intelligence in Health During COVID-19 Pandemic Process" organized online by İzmir Bakırçay University and İzmir Provincial Health Directorate with the contributions of the International Association of Artificial Intelligence in Health, a questionnaire was conducted to evaluate the knowledge of the participants about artificial intelligence applications. Material and Methods: This study aimed to evaluate the interest of the congress participants in this field with the questions which form the questionnaire such as the duration of the interest of the participants in the field of artificial intelligence in health, their publication status, the development of studies on artificial intelligence with the COVID-19 pandemic, demographic structures such as age and gender, and educational level. 130 participants answered the questionnaire consisting of 23 questions. Questionnaire responses were analyzed in a statistical setting. Results: We found that 130 people filled out the questionnaire and the majority of the participants were female, with participation from many organizations, but university staff showed more interest. We have seen that the 30-39 age group is more interested in artificial intelligence than the other age groups, but the majority of the participants do not have academic studies in this field. We found that the technical terms related to artificial intelligence were not well known by the participants, and that the number of participants who tended to this field, especially in the recent year, was high. Another important point was that people working in this field stated that they would definitely follow up if scientific activities continued. Conclusion: We know how important congresses, symposiums, courses and other meetings are, especially for scientist candidates, which will be held to raise awareness about the usage areas of artificial intelligence-based health technologies, to develop new communication and work networks by bringing together different disciplines, to create an agenda and to lay the groundwork for new studies, and we think that there is a need for many repetitive activities in this field and that these activities should be continued. Malnutrition is one of the most common complications of cancer and its treatments with a prevalence of up to 80% among cancer patients. Thus, standardized and target-oriented attitudes of oncologists toward nutritional management are particularly important. This study aims to report the questionnaire-based evaluation of different views toward medical nutrition among medical and radiation oncologists with the purpose to underline the problems and requirements of cancer nutrition. A national web-based survey composed of 26 multiple choice questions about participant demographics, level of knowledge about cancer nutrition, and approaches to malnutrition were completed by 247 oncologists. The survey was answered by a total of 247 (34%) radiation and medical oncologists. The majority of the oncologists (77%) were working at the University Hospitals and Education & Research Hospitals. Most of them were specialists with 5-10 years of experience. Nutritional status was routinely assessed in oncology units of 84% of (206) oncologists. However, only 50% reported nutritional evaluation follow-ups without waiting for a patient's declaration and 5 (2%) oncologists reported the absence of nutritional evaluation in their unit. Additionally, more than 79% of participants reported that their knowledge was not enough about enteral and parenteral nutrition while 8% were skeptical about the benefits of medical nutrition. Although the role of nutrition as an essential part of cancer care is widely recognized, the availability of limited high-quality evidence, problems of accessibility, lack of routine nutritional evaluation, and varying indicators for malnutrition are some of the problems preventing standardized nutritional management. Therefore, there are a variety of approaches and barriers to the implementation of guidelines. Further studies are needed to identify areas of improvement, as well as strategies to implement nutritional therapy in cancer care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The aim of this study was to examine age‐related differences in hemogram parameters and hematologic inflammatory markers in pediatric patients with COVID‐19. Methods: This retrospective study included children aged 2 months to 18 years (n = 208) who have a confirmed diagnosis of COVID‐19 and a control group comprising 117 healthy children between February 2021 and July 2021. The analysis of subgroup hematological values were performed according to the children's age cutoffs. Results: The most significant difference between pediatric patients with COVID‐19 and controls were peripheral blood eosinophil counts and eosinophil‐to‐monocyte ratio (EMR) levels on admission. The levels of monocyte‐to‐lymphocyte ratio, aggeregate index of systemic inflammation (neutrophil × platelet × monocyte/lymphocyte), neutrophil‐to‐ lymphocyte × platelet ratio, and systemic inflammation response index (neutrophil × monocyte/ lymphocyte) were higher in patients than in controls. EMR had the highest area under the curve (AUC) value of 0.777, with a cutoff value of 0.26. The sensitivity for EMR was 75% under 2 years of age, and between 78.6–87.5% in the other age groups. Conclusion: In children younger than 6 months, the discriminative power of hematological indices is low, while the discriminative power of EMR is high at all ages when age appropriate cutoffs are used. Hematological inflammatory parameters may be particularly practical in pediatric clinics to help identify COVID‐19 infection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
