Synergy in a contractor project team improves performance by integrating diverse knowledge and skills among team members, enabling the achievement of project objectives. However, according to a literature review, factors that enhance synergy among contractor project teams from the perspective of executives and practitioners have rarely been discovered, revealing a knowledge gap that needs to be filled. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify a common structure of such factors for executives and practitioners. Data collection involved a questionnaire survey targeting large contractors in Bangkok, Thailand. Then, we compared the mean importance and rank order of synergy factors, examined differences and similarities in synergy factors between executive and practitioner perspectives using the Mann–Whitney U test, and applied confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) for the data analysis. The differences and similarities show that executives and practitioners have similar perspectives on synergy factors. The CFA results validate a factor structure that enhances synergy. This synergy factor structure for executives and practitioners can be divided into five groups, with their standardized regression weights in parentheses: coordination (0.94), organizational structure (0.92), motivation (0.80), leadership (0.75), and planning and policy (0.69). These findings contribute to the body of knowledge and the state of practice by offering a practical framework to assist executives and practitioners in contractor organizations in identifying common measures and resource allocation based on the regression weights of synergy factors. Successful island conservation is critical to achieving global biodiversity targets, but significant gaps remain in our understanding of how to effectively engage island communities in conservation efforts. Social and political factors often play a major role in decision‐making processes on inhabited islands, making effective community engagement critical. To better understand the issue, we conducted an international survey of practitioners across 43 islands to understand how they engage with local communities and which methods they consider to be most effective to support their conservation goals. Most respondents used at least one form of community engagement, many using five or more different methods. Communicative and consultative modes of engagement were most commonly used, which require fewer resources and less intensive participation by the community, while only half used the more demanding collaborative approaches to engagement. Indigenous co‐management was reported by practitioners to be the most effective method for positive engagement and to support conservation outcomes, and was implemented on two‐thirds of islands with an indigenous population. Our study supports the view that practitioners consider community engagement an important part of island conservation management, but that there is a tendency for practitioners to rely on one‐way communication, rather than more resource intensive, collaborative approaches to working with communities. Entrepreneurship benefits economic development and innovation, and provides competitive advantages. Thus, entrepreneurship issues have received widespread attention from both academia and governments. However, there is relatively scarce research on the issues or topics that concern most people when talking about entrepreneurship on social media platforms. This study explores global entrepreneurship issues on Twitter. It adopts a text-mining technique followed by a social network analysis to analyze global, real-time longitudinal, and qualitative data from Twitter using 138,089 tweets related to entrepreneurship from 28,592 Twitter users. We observe that the startup phase is the most critical issue when talking about entrepreneurship because most people are interested in acquiring information on how to start a new venture. We also find that busy entrepreneurs prefer obtaining tips to help them work smart. Finally, the four most discussed topics are starting a business, success tips, startup, and team building. The research period is not long enough and all samples in the study are from Twitter Although they are representative, future research can improve the academic and practical implications with extended data collection periods and cross-platforms. Objective: Previous research has revealed that mental health professionals (MHPs) often experience severe, yet varying, levels of short-term impact in the aftermath of client suicide. Individual differences are significant, yet what factors help explain these differences remains unclear. The current study investigated the role of the MHPs' and the clients' age and gender upon the impact of client suicide. Method: An international sample of 213 MHPs, aged between 18 and 75, reported on a client's suicide and its short-term impact (IES-R). Results: The results indicate that both MHPs' and clients' gender did not affect impact. MHPs' and clients' age did not affect impact individually, although a significant interaction effect was revealed. Conclusion: Age, not gender, of the MHP and client are relevant in light of the impact of client suicide. Potential implications and suggestions for future research are discussed. Prior empirical efforts in uncovering the research-practice gap in public relations have often been restricted to perceptions and evaluations of people participating in the investigation. Moving beyond the linear perspective on knowledge transfer that dominates relevant discussions for decades, this study adopted topic modeling as an inductive analytical approach to examine a comprehensive set of texts representing the perspective of scholars and practitioners over a 10-year period from 2011 to 2020. A comparison of 35 topics discerned from academic journals (1,209 titles/abstracts) and professional texts (2,378 articles) revealed that a total of 18 topics were peculiar to each corpus, providing sound evidence of the substantial divide between scholars and practitioners. However, two communities shared common or comparable concerns over 17 topics, suggesting a significant convergence on crucial issues. Moreover, scholars and practitioners assigned varying weights to these topics in their publications, which indicated noteworthy differences in the primary areas of interest for both communities. In addition to deepening our understanding of the width and nuances of the research-practice gap in the field of public relations in a quantitative way, findings obtained from this study also signal the direction toward which scholars and practitioners should make progress to bridge the gap. Recently, the phenomenon of switching back from microservice to monolith has increased in frequency, leading to intense debate in the industry. In this paper, we conduct a multivocal literature review to investigate reasoning and key aspects to pay attention to when switching back and analyze other practitioners' opinions. The results show four cases of switching back from microservice to monolith: Istio control plane, Amazon Prime Video monitoring service, Segment, and InVision. The five main reasons that led to switching back are cost, complexity, scalability, performance, and organization. During the switching back process, six key aspects need to be addressed: (1) stopping the development of more services, (2) consolidating and testing paths, (3) unifying data storage, (4) implementing the message bus principle, (5) giving up diverse techniques, and (6) learning to use modular design principles. As to the practitioners' opinions, they had mixed views about the switching back phenomenon. However, most thought that switching back required consideration of the actual system situation and principles. Simple Summary: A cow is considered to have a retained placenta (RP) when the fetal membranes are visible at the vulva or identified in the uterus more than 24 h after calving. The problem of retained fetal membranes concerns dairy cattle more than beef cattle. This pathology is a major risk factor for uterine infections, ketosis and mastitis. It delays the postpartum resumption of cyclic ovarian function. This pathology also has economic consequences relating to increased veterinarian costs, the risk of culling rate, decreased milk production and reproduction performances. The main observations resulting from our survey of 700 practitioners across five European countries are as follows: abortion and twinning remain the main causes of retained fetal membranes; vaginal exploration remains the main diagnostic method used by veterinarians; more than half of veterinarians attempt to manually remove the placenta; tetracyclins, cefapirin and penicillins are the most used intrauterine antibiotics; and PGF2α, NSAID, homeopathy and oxytocin are used by a huge number of veterinarians. Our study confirms the necessity to improve and rationalize the diagnostic and therapeutic approach of the RFM, mainly in the context of the different measures to reduce the important problem of antibiotic resistance. The present study aimed to monitor the practices of European veterinarians for the diagnosis and treatment of retained fetal membranes in cattle. A questionnaire was established and distributed to veterinarians from five European countries. A total of 700 veterinarians participated in the survey. A vaginal examination, general examination and uterine palpation are carried out by 71%, 38% and 23% of veterinarians, respectively. Moreover, half of the veterinarians attempt to remove the placenta manually, 70% of them administer a combined local and general treatment if the cow has a fever (more than 39.5 °C), and 50% of them only administer IU treatment if no fever is observed. Tetracyclins, cefapirin and penicillins are the most used intrauterine (IU) antibiotics, whereas penicillin is the most used parenteral one. All other European veterinarians were less likely to use cefapirin and more likely to use oxytocin, Ca perfusion and NSAID than French and Walloon veterinarians. In conclusion, our study confirms the necessity of improving and rationalizing the diagnostic and therapeutic approach of the RFM, mainly to reduce the important problem of antibiotic resistance. Improving child behavior and promoting family well-being is a key objective of evidence-based parenting programs, such as the Triple P–Positive Parenting Program. To achieve this goal, parenting programs are delivered using a multidisciplinary workforce. Previous researchers have collectively examined the entire workforce of parenting practitioners to determine the factors that influence program delivery, primarily using self-report measures. However, these findings did not highlight the unique factors relevant to specific practitioner disciplines. Educators are one practitioner discipline that play an integral role in delivering parenting programs through schools and early childhood learning settings. This study aimed at exploring the facilitators and barriers that impact frequency of program use for educator practitioners using both qualitative and quantitative analyses. Data from 404 Triple P educator practitioners were extracted from a larger dataset of 1202 practitioners from English-speaking countries who completed self-report questionnaires and responded to three open-ended questions. Hierarchical multiple regressions were conducted using eight independent variables (with participant characteristics as control variables), revealing seven positive and one negative predictor for frequency of use. A thematic analysis was then conducted on the qualitative responses, producing 11 themes and 28 subthemes. The quantitative analysis revealed organisational support, perceived usefulness, and practitioner self-regulation were the most important positive predictors. The qualitative analysis supported these findings and revealed novel barriers including Covid-19/work from home, online delivery, parent factors, and specific organisational factors. These findings highlight the need for online resources, reliable virtual delivery methods, improved ways to reach and engage families, and additional trained education practitioners to distribute high workloads. In line with international trends in early childhood care and education (ECCE) recognising the importance of early learning, the Department of Basic Education in South Africa has pledged to professionalise the sector, increase access and improve quality. From a systemic point of view, professionalisation of the sector will require collaboration on multiple levels between various stakeholders working in different systems to bring about simultaneous improvement in conditions of employment, resource provision, and infrastructure development. To aid the government in supporting skills development in this sector, particularly for those servicing the most indigent populations, we employed a multi-method design to determine critical skills gaps and how they could best be addressed. Data were gathered through online questionnaires, a desktop review and focus group and individual interviews. Thematic analysis revealed the need for managerial training, practical learning opportunities for practitioners, the necessity for more home-based ECCE services and systemic improvement. Purpose: To survey soccer practitioners' recovery strategy: (1) use, (2) perceived effectiveness, and (3) factors influencing their implementation in professional soccer. Methods: A cross-sectional convenience sample of professional soccer club/confederation practitioners completed a web-based survey (April to July 2020). Pearson chi-square and Fisher exact tests with Cramer V (φ − c) assessed relationships and their strength, respectively, between the perceived effectiveness and frequency of strategy use. Results: A total of 80 soccer practitioners (13 countries) completed the survey. The 3 most important recovery objectives were "alleviating muscle damage/fatigue," "minimizing injury risk," and "performance optimization." The most frequently used strategies were active recovery, structured recovery day, extra rest day, massage, cold-water therapy, and carbohydrate provision (predominantly on match day and match day + 1). Relationships were identified between perceived effectiveness and frequency of strategy use for sleep medication (P <.001, φ − c = 0.48), carbohydrate provision (P =.007, φ − c = 0.60), protein provision (P =.007, φ − c = 0.63), an extra rest day (P <.001, φ − c = 0.56), and a structured recovery day (P =.049, φ − c = 0.50). Conclusions: The study demonstrates that professional soccer practitioners have a range of objectives geared toward enhancing player recovery. A disconnect is apparent between the perceived effectiveness of many recovery strategies and their frequency of use in an applied setting. Novel data indicate that strategies are most frequently employed around match day. Challenges to strategy adoption are mainly competing disciplinary interests and resource limitations. Researchers and practitioners should liaise to ensure that the complexities involved with operating in an applied environment are elucidated and apposite study designs are adopted, in turn, facilitating the use of practically effective and compatible recovery modalities. Background: Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) practitioner care may be hampered by commercial biases and hair loss' omission from most medical curricula. Aim and Method: Between November 2020 and September 2021, 34 AGA professionals (86% British; 62% trichologists), participated in a pilot, mixed‐methods, survey. Practitioner views on: 1a–1j) AGA's commercial influences (e.g., participants were quantitatively assessed on their understanding of a popular, commercially‐funded, AGA study) and 2a–2h) constraints on evidenced‐based AGA responding (e.g., ethical dilemmas) were assessed. Quantitative responses are reported descriptively whilst qualitative responses are categorized alongside illustrative quotes. Results: On average, (1a–1d) 42% of participants were misled by the popular AGA study and (1e) participants underestimated the extent of commercial biases in AGA research as 25%; (2a–2e). Participants also indicated that AGA treatment limitations and misinformation ethically challenged them (e.g., "[It's difficult to know when] to treat or not without being able to confirm the outcome"). (2c) Most (77%) indicated society played a powerful role in exacerbating AGA distress (e.g., "Society is hyper critical of appearance") and 30% indicated greater "treatment" accessibility was needed: (e.g., "hair loss product [should] give clear indication of what the active ingredients are and how effective they are"). Conclusions: Despite the limited sample size, these finding cohere with previous identified challenges of the AGA practitioner role. In 2021, a second updated edition of Eschig's and Pircher-Eschig's translation of the Austrian Civil Code (ABGB) (Allgemeines bürgerliches Gesetzbuch für die gesammten deutschen Erbländer der Oesterreichischen Monarchie (ABGB 1811). (as amended), 2023) was released. This edition holds particular relevance due to its potential applicability across a spectrum of players operating at the intersection of language and (civil) law, including legal professionals, the hospitality industry, and mediators. We find that this comprehensive translation may not only serve as a valuable resource for (legal) practice but also holds significance for research in diverse fields, including (applied) legal linguistics, lexicography, translation studies, and comparative law. Moreover, this translation alleviates the challenges faced by practitioners inside and outside of law when dealing with legal concepts and lexis, along with their interdependencies in continental civil law discourse. We suggest that the work is particularly useful for legal departments of international companies, but also for hotel chains and/or mediation offices, seeking insights into the specifics of the Austrian legal-linguistic landscape. While computer-assisted translation and machine translation cannot be denied their utility, they should not be seen as capable of entirely replacing human expertise. Indeed, machine translations may not be able to capture the subtle multi-faceted interplay of emerging legal, linguistic, and/or cultural contexts when dealing with the legal concepts and interrelated terminology of the ABGB. In conclusion, we acknowledge the significance of high-quality legal translations, as the one under review, that have been thoroughly reviewed by human experts, thus contributing to saving time and resources. The manufacturing world is subject to ever-increasing cost optimization pressures. Maintenance adds to cost and disrupts production; optimized maintenance is therefore of utmost interest. As an autonomous learning mechanism reinforcement learning (RL) is increasingly used to solve complex tasks. While designing an optimal, model-free RL solution for predictive maintenance (PdM) is an attractive proposition, there are several key steps and design elements to be considered—from modeling degradation of the physical equipment to creating RL formulations. In this article, we survey how researchers have applied RL to optimally predict maintenance in diverse forms—from early diagnosis to computing a "health index" to directly suggesting a maintenance action. Contributions of this article include developing a taxonomy for PdM techniques in general and one specifically for RL applied to PdM. We discovered and studied unique techniques and applications by applying t f - i d f (a text mining technique). Furthermore, we systematically studied how researchers have mathematically formulated RL concepts and included some detailed case-studies that help demonstrate the complete flow of applying RL to PdM. Finally, in Sect. 14, we summarize the insights for researchers, and for the industrial practitioner we lay out a simple approach for implementing RL for PdM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A significant amount of researcher and practitioner effort has focused on developing new chemical controls for the parasitic Varroa destructor mite in beekeeping. One outcome of that has been the development and testing of "glycerol–oxalic acid" mixtures to place in colonies for extended periods of time, an off-label use of the otherwise legal miticide oxalic acid. The majority of circulated work on this approach was led by practitioners and published in nonacademic journals, highlighting a lack of effective partnership between practitioners and scientists and a possible failure of the extension mandate in beekeeping in the United States. Here, we summarize the practitioner-led studies we could locate and partner with a commercial beekeeper in the Southeast of the United States to test the "shop towel–oxalic acid–glycerol" delivery system developed by those practitioners. Our study, using 129 commercial colonies between honey flows in 2017 split into 4 treatment groups, showed no effectiveness in reducing Varroa parasitism in colonies exposed to oxalic acid–glycerol shop towels. We highlight the discrepancy between our results and those circulated by practitioners, at least for the Southeast, and the failure of extension to support practitioners engaged in research. In this editorial we reflect on the first ten years of our journal's mission to bring together voices from the Global North and Global South as a platform for scholars and practitioners to discuss and debate the key issues affecting journalism. We acknowledge the great vision and work of our founding editor, professor Leon Barkho, who is stepping down in his role as principal editor. He has developed and implemented the ideas that have shaped our journal and who championed cultural diversity and gender balance as reflected in our editorial board, from the outset. Stepping up to the role of main editor, Jairo Lugo-Ocando talks about the powerful legacy of the journal in making important and critical contributions to academic debates and practitioners' work and then explains how we will meet the challenges that lie ahead. We outline our continued commitment to a robust peer-review process, a refresh of our editorial board with younger faces to renew and connect the journal to new trends and areas from the emerging scholarship. We highlight a series of Special Issues that will add to our unique collection and focus on specific themes and our intention to relaunch a prize for best article submitted, in conjunction with a major partner. Crisis communications are vital to business in times of uncertainty because clear messaging inspires confidence, keeps stakeholders updated and will help companies continue to trade successfully. Recently, the COVID-19 crisis has challenged traditional communication practice in the cruise sector, highlighting the limitations of traditional crisis communications approaches. Applying Construal Level Theory, this study aims to consider psychological distance and construal levels in cruise practitioners messaging. The study relies on a qualitative research design. We interviewed 15 experts to understand how the industry communicates with travellers during a time of crisis. The data analysis adopts the Gioia method which uses a sensemaking and sense giving approach. This study's contribution is threefold. First, we extend existing knowledge about crisis marketing communication practice by focusing on cruise practitioners' instead of travellers' perspectives. Second, we identify an additional temporal stage, which has not been previously considered by Construal Level Theory, to communicate with travellers. We label it, 'critical crisis communication mid-point'. Objectives This retrospective analysis aims to determine the accuracy of medication histories undertaken during a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) (at the point of admission) in an inpatient setting within an acute hospital. The CGA can be completed by a range of healthcare professionals, which will be directly compared. Medication reviews are an integral part of the CGA, therefore the accuracy of the history is integral to the review. Methods A retrospective analysis of patient electronic records between October 2018 and February 2020 was conducted. The accuracy of medication histories recorded as part of the CGA completed by Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Pharmacist Practitioners and Doctors was compared. This was done using electronic records, any discrepancies were captured. Descriptive statistics were applied. Key findings Across the 50 patients and 421 medicines identified, there were 59 discrepancies; 24 (48%) patients were noted with at least one discrepancy in their medication history. An omission of current medication was the most common error (49%), followed by incorrect dose (19%) and a record of a medication not taken pre-admission (15%). The total number of prescribed medications was found to positively correlate with the rate of error (Pearson's correlation 0.455, P > 0.001). An independent t -test determined a significant difference between the rate of errors between pharmacists and nurses (t -test: −4.48, P < 0.001). Conclusions This study re-confirmed risks of medication errors when patients change care settings. This is more prevalent with higher numbers of medications, requiring greater care in instances of polypharmacy, particularly in frail patients. This can support risk stratification of patients. A difference in outcomes between pharmacists and nurses warrants further exploration to determine the reasons for this and structuring multi-disciplinary teams accordingly. Consideration to ensure that medication history taking is included as part of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner is important, particularly with the expansion of these roles in the UK. Domestic violence has been a global phenomenon in society for ages. It is so complex and needs to be dealt with accordingly. This paper tries to discuss one of the findings from the overall, bigger study that was carried out to examine the issue of economic abuse and the financial well-being of victims of domestic violence. It attempts to explore the issues faced by victims of domestic violence from the perspective of practitioners who handle such cases. The data of this qualitative study was obtained during interviews and focus group discussions (FGD) conducted using thematic analysis. A total of fifteen staff members or practitioners in the Department of Social Welfare were asked to share their experiences in handling cases of domestic violence victims as well as financial conflicts and the economic well-being of abuse victims. The results of the study found that the issues of economic and financial abuse are focused on the issue of employment and source of income as well as the dependency of the perpetrator and the victim, the issue of the perpetrator’s negative lifestyle and the perpetrator’s control over the financial resources generated by the victim. The primary objective of this paper is to review an article titled “Henri Fayol, practitioner and theoretician - revered and reviled” written by Mildred Golden Pryor and Sonia Taneja (2010). Pryor and Taneja (2010) critically evaluate Fayol’s theory within the contemporary business context. They argued that Fayol’s theories are valuable and relevant for organizational leaders because Fayol was a practitioner who documented theories that worked best for him and his co-workers. Even though, there are a few criticisms on Fayol’s theories still his theories are applicable with some advancement as a basement for the management implications for the contemporary business world. Pryor and Taneja (2010) compare Fayol’s work with the contribution of other scholars namely, Follett, Mintzberg, Taylor, and Porter’s, while evaluating the original and current interpretation and application of Fayol’s theories. Finally, Pryor and Taneja (2010) appreciate Fayol’s contribution specially the 14 principles of management due to its more optimistic features. Therefore, it is necessary for the students, teachers, and practitioners to understand the relevance of the theories and be able to utilize, Fayol’s principles and theories for improving the organizational performance and further studies. Relevance to practice is an open issue for scholars in public policy and public administration. One major problem is the need to produce knowledge that can guide practitioners designing and implementing public interventions in specific contexts. This article claims that investigating the causal mechanisms of policy programs—i.e., modeling why and how they produce outcomes—can contribute to such knowledge. In this regard, mechanisms offer essential information to guide practitioners when replicating, adjusting, and designing interventions. Unfortunately, not all models of mechanisms can inform practice. The article proposes a strategy for design research and practice inspired by reverse engineering: selecting successful programs, causal modeling, assessing the target context, and designing. Scholars should model mechanisms by identifying the program and non-program elements that contribute to the outcome of interest and abstracting their causal powers. Practitioners can use these models, diagnose their target context, and adjust designs to deal with context-specific problems. The proposed research agenda may enhance orientation to practice and offer a middle ground between the search for abstract, general relationships, and single-case analyses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Practitioners' characteristics and actions influence the implementation of evidence-based programs, but little is known about the practitioner's role in the implementation of parent-based programs. The present qualitative study is the first to explore the perceptions of parents and professionals regarding the practitioners' characteristics and actions which influence the implementation of a parent program directed at children's behavior problems. Using thematic analysis, data were examined from eight focus groups comprising 24 parents and 19 practitioners who have participated in the Incredible Years parent group program (IYPP). The analysis identified three groups of practitioners' characteristics perceived to impact the implementation of the IYPP: inferred interpersonal characteristics (genuine interest; empathy and warmth; positive regard; humbleness); inferred intrapersonal characteristics (objectivity; flexibility; well-being; reflexiveness) and objective characteristics (similar age; being a parent; clinical professional background; professional experience with children and the IYPP). These personal characteristics are perceived as serving to underpin practitioners' actions, and an integrated framework model is proposed where specific practitioners' actions are understood in relation to personal characteristics. Inferred characteristics are perceived as determinants in the intervention process while objective characteristics are seen as facilitators of parent engagement in the earliest stages of intervention. Finally, most of the characteristics and actions perceived as relevant in this study are contemplated in the IYPP model; however, the practitioners' intrapersonal well-being, self-reflexiveness and genuineness emerged as characteristics which may merit further consideration. The results from this study suggest that in the IYPP the person of the practitioner may indeed be worthy of more critical examination. Background: The public health and economic implications of perinatal mental health problems are well documented. Maternity clinicians are ideally placed to effectively identify women at risk and facilitate early intervention. However, in China as globally a number of issues are implicated in a failure to recognise and treat. Aim: The present study sought to develop and evaluate the Chinese version 'professional issues in maternal mental health' scale (PIMMHS), explore its psychometric properties and potential application. Methods: A cross-sectional design and instrument translation and evaluation approach was taken to investigate the psychometric properties of the PIMMHS in a Chinese population. A total of 598 obstetricians, obstetric nurses, and midwives participated in this study from 26 hospitals across China. Findings: The Chinese PIMMHS was not a good fit to the original two factor model. The emotion/communication subscale yielded an excellent fit to the data according to all fit indices, offering compelling evidence for a single factor solution. The training (PIMMHS: Training), proved problematic throughout the analysis with divergent validity for the training subscale also being poor with a concomitant impact on the total scale performance. The performance of this subscale may be related to the nature of medical training and PMH. Conclusion: The Chinese PIMMHS comprises a unidimensional scale of emotion/ communication, which is simple and may provide insight into the emotional burden of providing PMH care, with the potential to mitigate that burden. This introduction to the special issue 'Writing Doctors and Writing Health in the Long Eighteenth Century' explores the various types of literary and visual creativity enacted by medical practitioners as they sought new ways of communicating and engaging with the public. Focusing on the shift from Latin to vernacular publishing in elite medical circles, we examine the proliferation of new opportunities open to physicians, surgeons, apothecaries, medical artists, midwives, and other women practitioners to express themselves. Novels, drama, poetry, artworks, almanacs, and letters, to name but a few creative products of the period, allowed new ideas and underrepresented voices to be heard for the first time, changing forever the way creative and empirical cultures would intertwine. Stemming from the Leverhulme Trust Research Project Writing Doctors: Medical Representation and Personality, ca. 1660–1832 (2018–22), this research has undoubtedly been impacted by the rapidly changing nature of public healthcare in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic that was still ongoing when this issue went to print. The field of public administration and policy faces ongoing calls to maintain its relevancy to public sector practice. A variety of innovations have thrived in the recent years, striving to fill the gap between theory and practice. Faculty-practitioner exchange is one such attempt. This study examines the micro dynamics of such exchange in Master of Public Administration (MPA) programs in China where the gap was seen to be particularly wide. Using qualitative methods, this study interviewed 13 faculty instructors in Chinese MPA programs with experience of government engagement. We found that the instructors were predominantly driven by a keen awareness of their weakness in real-world exposure. The government engagement experience boosted their self-efficacy when teaching in-service students, and the empathy developed between instructors and students augmented educational outcomes. The engagement service invigorated pedagogical innovations towards enhanced case teaching conducive to the co-production of practical knowledge with practitioners. The engagement service strengthened the faculty instructors' awareness of the theory-practice gap and their appreciation of students' needs. Purpose: This study aims to examine the use of data visualization as a tool to support practitioner-led organizational learning within the emergency services. The authors investigate how data visualization can support visual communication and the analysis of emergency response data to promote system improvement. Design/methodology/approach: The authors investigate if communication data, presented as node-link diagrams, can be understood and evaluated by firefighters. Objective understanding of the communication network is measured quantitatively, while subject judgement of the emergency response system is measured qualitatively and compared to prior system evaluation outcomes. The authors compare different data visualization layouts and assess their value in supporting practitioner evaluation of emergency response systems. Findings: The authors find that while firefighters are largely unfamiliar with their use, data visualizations function as a tool for visual communication and analysis. The authors identify the importance of visualization design and the difficulty in representing characteristics of a dynamic network within static diagrams. The authors also find some correlation between layout design and how respondents interpret visual data. Originality/value: Results demonstrate the value of data visualization to support practitioner-led organizational learning and suggest future work to support the development of emergency response management. Resource managers have rarely accounted for evolutionary dynamics in the design or implementation of climate change adaptation strategies. We brought the research and management communities together to identify challenges and opportunities for applying evidence from evolutionary science to support on‐the‐ground actions intended to enhance species' evolutionary potential. We amalgamated input from natural‐resource practitioners and interdisciplinary scientists to identify information needs, current knowledge that can fill those needs, and future avenues for research. Three focal areas that can guide engagement include: (1) recognizing when to act, (2) understanding the feasibility of assessing evolutionary potential, and (3) identifying best management practices. Although researchers commonly propose using molecular methods to estimate genetic diversity and gene flow as key indicators of evolutionary potential, we offer guidance on several additional attributes (and their proxies) that may also guide decision‐making, particularly in the absence of genetic data. Finally, we outline existing decision‐making frameworks that can help managers compare alternative strategies for supporting evolutionary potential, with the goal of increasing the effective use of evolutionary information, particularly for species of conservation concern. We caution, however, that arguing over nuance can generate confusion; instead, dedicating increased focus on a decision‐relevant evidence base may better lend itself to climate adaptation actions. The present study investigated the Big Five personality traits of 94 collegiate outdoor recreation (COR) professionals employed within a campus recreation setting and examined those in relation to their job satisfaction. An e-mail with a link to an online survey was sent to 233 campus recreation professional members of the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education. Using the five-factor model (FFM) of personality, the researchers explored the relationship between personality traits (neuroticism, extroversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness) and level of affect toward common COR program duties (general office, personnel management, interpersonal, and program-specific). Results indicated that COR professionals ascribed the highest level of affect to personnel management tasks followed by interpersonal, program-specific, and then general office tasks. Extroversion was positively correlated with interpersonal job task affect as were agreeableness and openness to experience. Study results suggest that individuals with a higher rating on extroversion would be well suited to work in a COR setting. Such professionals would be creative problem solvers who work well within a group. The overall scoring patterns found indicate that COR professionals are less interested in typical "desk work" as they prefer the fieldwork and interpersonal/social aspects of the job. As interpersonal skills are vital to success in the COR profession, results suggest that when hiring, employers may wish to focus on those applicant traits. Since the necessary organization and administrative tasks are more easily taught to new hires, those skill sets may be taught on the job. To learn about applicant personality traits, employers may wish to integrate a personality assessment into the typical hiring practices to best match new staff with required job skills. A study published in the Archives of Dermatological Research examined the use of terminology on dermatology residency program websites to describe physicians and non-physician clinicians (NPCs). The study found that vague terms such as "provider," "practitioner," and "clinician" were commonly used, while more specific terms like "dermatologist" and "physician" were less prevalent. The researchers suggest that using precise language is important in recognizing the differences in expertise and training between physicians and NPCs. Purpose: This study explored the main challenges, and the drivers of these challenges hindering small and medium accounting- and auditing practices (SMPs) in providing professional services to clients. Design/Methodology/Approach: The challenges were identified via a literature study and explored by means of an interactive qualitative analysis survey, that garnered the views of 30 South African SMPs regarding the drivers of these obstacles. Findings: The paper identified automation and lack of support by professional accountancy bodies as principal challenges hindering practitioners in delivering professional services to clients. Other drivers of the challenges faced by SMPs, include rising cost, management of cash flow, competition from unqualified accountants and the threat of new entrants into the industry. Research implications: The findings of this exploratory study have several implications for the professional accountancy bodies, the practise of SMPs and the theory of The Business. Originality/Value: The research findings provide recommendations to professional accountancy bodies, and SMP management and staff, and suggest avenues requiring further research. Aim: Supporting clients who have experienced trauma can lead to trauma symptoms in those working with them; workers in the sexual violence field are at heightened risks of these. This article collated and critically appraised papers, published from 2017 onward, in the area of people assisting victims of sexual violence. It explores the impacts and effects the work has on them, their coping and self-care mechanisms, and organizational support offered to them. Design: A question-based rapid evidence assessment with a triangulated weight of evidence approach was used. Academic and nonacademic databases were searched. Twenty-five papers were included for analysis based on the inclusion/exclusion criteria. Results: Most studies were of medium to high methodological quality. Negative impacts included trauma symptoms, disrupted social relationships, behavioral changes, and emotional and psychological distress. Ability to manage negative impacts was influenced by overall organizational support, availability of training, supervision and guidance, workloads and caseload characteristics, individual characteristics, and their coping and self-care mechanisms. Positive impacts included empowering feelings, improved relationships, compassion satisfaction, and posttraumatic growth. Conclusions: Impacts are significant. Support at work and in personal life increases staff's ability to cope and find meaning in their role. Implications for research and practice are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Psychological skills training (PST) programs involve the delivery of multiple mental skills. While this 'packaged' approach to mental skills training is effective, little is known regarding the proper sequence of such mental skills. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to propose a sequence for the delivery of basic mental skills. The Sequence of Basic Mental Skills consists of four mental skills: (1) goal setting, (2) imagery, (3) self-talk, and (4) relaxation. The premise of this sequence is that each skill will assist in the learning and application of subsequent mental skills. To help practitioners utilize this sequence, a brief case study is included to illustrate the application of this sequence. Engineers must engage project stakeholders effectively if stakeholder needs are to be met, and prototypes are key tools for communicating design form and function. Quality stakeholder engagement in the front end of design processes, in particular, is critical in the success or failure of design projects. As remote stakeholder engagement has become increasingly common as industry trends toward distributed design, there is a need to develop the theory and practices behind effective remote design processes, which have not yet been as well-studied as in-person design. This study explored the prototyping strategies for remote stakeholder engagement during front-end design used by 10 engineering practitioners and 10 senior engineering students through semi-structured interviews. Prototyping strategies were found to overlap with many of the strategies described by prior literature that are not specific to remote engagement modes, though several of these strategies were adapted to the remote context, and three emergent strategies for prototyping in remote engagements were identified. Designers' perceptions of remote versus in-person prototyping strategies for stakeholder engagement in front-end design, including perceived advantages and limitations, were also explored, and recommendations for educators to better prepare engineering students for hybrid and remote work are provided. Objective: Musculoskeletal pain is having growing impacts worldwide with clinical challenge in pain management. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the preferences of orthopedic surgeons of China for using medicine in musculoskeletal pain. Methods: A questionnaire was developed, including the following domains, personal information, medication preference for pain treatment, and perceptions of topical medicine. Ten participants were selected to confirm the consistency of questionnaire. A cross‐sectional survey was conducted in orthopedic physicians with different specialties in different regions of China via the online survey platform. The participants' survey results were analyzed one‐way and multi‐way using chi‐square test and logistic regression. Results: The pre‐survey analysis results of 10 randomly selected investigators were a mean weighted kappa coefficient of 0.76 (range 0.61–0.89), which indicated the substantial consistency of the present questionnaire. A total of 1099 orthopedic surgeons (mean age, 41.67 ± 8.31 years) responded to our survey, most of whom were male (90.72%), and most of whom worked in level III hospitals (63.24%) and trained in modern medicine (71.43%). Most surgeons who participated in the survey had used topical analgesics in their clinical work (95.81%), and most preferred to use topical analgesics (39.50%) or a combination of oral analgesics (28.87%). Primary reasons for preferring topical analgesics were as follows: less adverse reactions (68.01%); ease of use (60.90%); and not interfering with other oral medications (49.60%). The preference for prescribing topical analgesics increased with the education level of the respondent, where statistically significant differences were seen (P < 0.05). In addition, the level of the respondent's hospital, type of hospital, the respondent's profession, and their participation in surgical work influenced their preferences for topical analgesics (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Orthopedic surgeons across China have different medication preferences in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain. The educational background of the physician largely influences the preference when selecting medications. To better improve the treatment of musculoskeletal pain, there is a need to improve the overall medical education of practitioners and to disseminate clinical practice guidelines. Human trafficking and modern slavery remain an evolving research topic because of the complex and 'illicit' nature of this type of offending, which relies primarily on victim compliance to avoid detection. Worldwide, the exact number of victims of human trafficking is unknown because of the 'hidden' profile of such criminal activity. The International Labour Organisation (2017) estimated that worldwide, on any day in 2016, there were 40 million victims of modern slavery. This is likely a significant under-representation due to the implicit need for secrecy and for victims to be 'hidden', sometimes in 'plain sight', from the local communities within which they are being 'held' by the perpetrators. The focus of this study was to develop a profile of perpetrators within Northern Ireland and to explore coercive control tactics to inform assessment of risk and the development of appropriate offence-focused intervention(s). This paper explores key themes that were identified through the completion of a retrospective content analysis of case files accessed through the Probation Board for Northern Ireland (PBNI)'s case management system. An audit tool was created, which supported identification of three key themes: perpetrator perspective, victim vulnerabilities, and coercion/control tactics. The information collated from the case files supports the creation of evidencebased training to develop practitioner skills in assessing risks associated with this type of offending, succinct analysis within court reports, and creation of tailored interventions to engage service-users who have been convicted of humantrafficking offences. This study has also identified themes which will aid in the potential creation of specific programmes of work with service-users, with the focus on reducing the creation of further victims from this type of offending. This article maps and compares four universities' policies and procedures for addressing faculty and staff sexual misconduct in higher education in the UK and US. While universities have engaged in significant work to grapple with student-student sexual misconduct, attention to misconduct perpetrated, and experienced, by higher education employees is relatively nascent. In this paper, we explore the maze of institutional processes and actors that victimsurvivors of FASSM might encounter. We describe what is known about prevalence of FASSM in the US and UK and offer an overview of the policy landscape in both settings. Inspired by Patricia Yancey Martin, we analyze publicly available policy documents on FASSM from two US and two UK universities and map out visually the range of investigative, reporting, and sanctioning processes. We introduce an analytic distinction between an actor and a practitioner within the FASSM context, whereby actors are those tasked with administrative duties in handling sexual misconduct reports, while practitioners are those with specialized knowledge and training that enables them to prioritize victim-survivor needs. These illustrative diagrams suggest that while university employees are tasked to act on reports and disclosures of sexual misconduct, it is difficult to identify specialist practitioners with expertise to support victim-survivors of FASSM. Ultimately, this work provides a deeper understanding of what practice looks like in relation to higher education FASSM, and we outline implications for future research directions. Meeting the complex demands of conservation requires a multi-skilled workforce operating in a sector that is respected and supported. Although professionalization of conservation is widely seen as desirable, there is no consistent understanding of what that entails. Here, we review whether and how eight elements of professionalization observed in other sectors are applicable to conservation: (1) a defined and respected occupation; (2) official recognition; (3) knowledge, learning, competences and standards; (4) paid employment; (5) codes of conduct and ethics; (6) individual commitment; (7) organizational capacity; and (8) professional associations. Despite significant achievements in many of these areas, overall progress is patchy, and conventional concepts of professionalization are not always a good fit for conservation. Reasons for this include the multidisciplinary nature of conservation work, the disproportionate influence of elite groups on the development and direction of the profession, and under-representation of field practitioners and of Indigenous peoples and local communities with professional-equivalent skills. We propose a more inclusive approach to professionalization that reflects the full range of practitioners in the sector and the need for increased recognition in countries and regions of high biodiversity. We offer a new definition that characterizes conservation professionals as practitioners who act as essential links between conservation action and conservation knowledge and policy, and provide seven recommendations for building a more effective, inclusive and representative profession. Objectives: This study estimated the prevalence of dental fear/anxiety (DFA) and phobia in Asian youths and investigated the fear/anxiety response components and triggers for those with DFA. Materials and methods: A convenience sample of youths, aged 17 to 24 years old, was recruited from a local polytechnic. The Index of Dental Anxiety and Fear-4C + (IDAF-4C +) was employed to assess the occurrence of DFA (IDAF-4C) and phobia (IDAF-P) as well as to ascertain fear/anxiety-inducing stimuli (IDAF-S). Psychological distress was determined with the Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4). Sociodemographic, IDAF-4C + , dental attendance patterns, and PHQ-4 data were gathered electronically. Statistical analyses were conducted with chi-square, Kruskal–Wallis, and relevant post hoc tests (α = 0.05). Results: A total of 215 participants were enrolled (mean age of 18.9 ± 2.0 years; 87.4% women). Of these, 12.6/6.0% had moderate-to-high (MH)/high-to-extreme (HE) DFA and 0.9% experienced dental phobia. Significant differences in scores were observed between the HE/MH and no-to-moderate (NM) groups for all IDAF-4C components. Apart from the cost of dental treatment, IDAF-4S scores varied significantly among the three DFA groups. The two most highly rated DFA stimuli were painful/uncomfortable procedures and needles/injections for the HE group, while they were needles/injections and the cost of dental treatment for the MH and NM groups. Conclusions: Moderate-to-extreme DFA existed in 18.6% of the Asian youths examined. The emotional and physiological components of the IDAF-4C appear to contribute more to the DFA response. Dental pain including needles/injections and the cost of dental treatment troubled Asian youths the most. Clinical relevance: DFA is a common problem among Asian youths, and understanding its extent, nature, and triggers is central for effective interventions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Presented as a collaborative reflexive account, this article has evolved through a series of discussions between the first author—who carried out an "insider" ethnography of Shiatsu practice—and her two supervisors. We highlight the challenges that she faced as an ethnographer in a field already familiar to the researcher and demonstrate how it was possible to use this tension to advantage in crafting an enhanced methodological approach. Drawing upon Bourdieu's (1996, 24) notion of "forgetfulness of self," we explore how the first author was able to harness and hone her key abilities, disposition, and innate knowledge as an experienced Shiatsu practitioner in order to forge a blended approach. Finally, the article suggests that this approach, based on sensitive skills involving "listening," intuition, and touch—the essence of Shiatsu—can enhance ethnographic practice in general. Law enforcement agencies in the UK are embracing evidence-based policing and recognise the importance of human source intelligence (HUMINT) in the decision-making process. A review of the literature identified six categories likely to impact the handling of a covert human intelligence source (CHIS) or an informant: (a) handler personality traits; (b) informant motivation; (c) rapport; (d) gaining cooperation; (e) obtaining information, and (f) detecting deception. This study sought to identify which of these categories current HUMINT practitioners considered the most when planning and conducting a meeting with an informant. A bespoke online survey was designed and disseminated to 34 practitioners using purposive and snowball sampling. Directed content analysis and thematic content analysis were conducted. Results indicate that practitioners appear most concerned with gaining co-operation (d) and detecting deception (f). Results also found an inter-connectivity between the six categories, with informant handlers often having to balance competing requirements. Implications for future research are discussed. Stream restoration has become increasingly common, both globally and specifically in the United States. Though stream restoration has become a common freshwater management practice, there are debates around what constitutes "success" in restored systems and whether this success should incorporate both scientific and stakeholder‐defined endpoints. In our study context, the Upper Mississippi River Basin's Driftless Area, conflicts over stream restoration practices often center on the management and use of Driftless Area streams, as practitioners navigate competing perspectives about restoration approaches alongside tensions over whose needs and interests should be prioritized in restoration planning and implementation. Based on the importance of stream restoration practitioner perspectives for mediating uncertainty and shaping on‐the‐ground projects, we asked (a) What are the main areas of conflict that emerge around Driftless Area stream restoration? (b) Can stream restoration practitioners be categorized into distinct groups based on their varying perspectives on stream restoration practices in the Driftless Area? (c) If so, what are these groups and how do they map onto the main areas of stream restoration conflict in the Driftless Area? We used Q‐method to identify and describe four perspectives about stream restoration practices and priorities in the Driftless Area. Our results suggest that (a) the differences between groups are related to concerns about best practices for stabilizing streambanks and post‐restoration monitoring. We found that (b) all four Q‐method identified groups agree that floodplain‐stream channel reconnection is an important aspect of restoration projects and that erosion is a big concern in the Driftless Area. This paper was based on a framework for practice and supervision based on 'protective-support and supportive-protection' (PS-SP) that can be used to discuss and plan for practice in a way that maximises the capacity of workers in child protection and welfare (CPW) services to provide support and protection simultaneously. The framework is underpinned by a long-established assumption about social work in child protection and welfare as a socio-legal practice of mediation in the social. The PS-SP framework was initially developed within an ecological context with a focus on networks and networking. In this paper, we developed this framework further, framing practice supervision using four functions of supervision (management, support, development, and mediation) and including a fifth component on safety. We did this alongside a review of related considerations around safety in supervision in general and in child protection and welfare in particular. While noting the important contribution of this work, we identified ongoing gaps for supervision focused on safety when considered within an ecological context. Bearing in mind the well-evidenced stress, challenges, and vicarious nature of child protection and welfare practice, we argued the importance of a wider framework based on PS-SP for supervision and support to manage this complexity with a particular emphasis on 'safety' as a contribution to this. To illustrate our framework and discussion, we referred to a case study throughout. This case study is drawn from a high-profile child abuse inquiry in Ireland over a decade ago. This case was chosen as it demonstrates the complex interplay of needs for support and protection over extended time. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to provide a commentary on "Status quo bias and resistance to positive behaviour support: implications for leaders" and to extend the conversation regarding potential change agents to address resistance. Design/methodology/approach: This commentary provides discussion stimulated by the Ntinas's (2022) paper regarding resistance to the implementation of positive behaviour support (PBS). Findings: Contextual fit is highlighted as a consideration related to the implementation of PBS, with a view to mitigating resistance. A range of factors linked to supporting good contextual fit are discussed. Originality/value: This paper provides the perspective of a PBS practitioner with experience of implementing PBS across a range of settings.
