- Abstract
The purpose of the research paper is to study the didactic workload of M. Hrushevskyi at Lviv University, the weekly schedule of his classes, the peculiarities of delivering lectures and seminars, as well as communication with the faculty administration. The methodological basis of the work is an interdisciplinary approach. Particular emphasis is placed on the structural and functional systematic analysis of historiographical facts and the comparative and historical method proceeding from the principles of objectivity and historicism. The scientific novelty of the study is in the first special attempt at a comprehensive reconstruction of the image of M. Hrushevskyi as a professor at Lviv University. Conclusions. The teaching activity of M. Hrushevskyi at Lviv University was intended to realize the idea of Kyiv and Lviv populists to successfully transform Galicia into a national 'Piedmont'. Thus, a prominent historian had to implement the educational component of that cultural and social project, training new representatives of Ukrainianists from among the studying youth of the main educational institution of the region. In accordance with that mission, he developed and sequentially, by periods delivered lecture courses on national history and the history of Eastern Europe region. Encouraged by such issues, the students deepened their specialization in Ukrainian studies at a scientific seminar and various special courses given by M. Hrushevskyi in the fields of political, socio-cultural, and regional history. That purely didactic process, focused on a thorough grounding of the historical subjectivity of the Ukrainian people, had the expected social effect. It consisted in the development of the struggle for the cultural rights of Ukrainians within the walls of Lviv University. It was M. Hrushevskyi who became the ideologist of those efforts and, in his own professorial practice, fundamentally affirmed the Ukrainian voice in the national polyphony of the University, setting an example for his more moderate colleagues K. Studynskyi and O. Kolessa. The result of the prominent scholar's professorial activity was numerous representatives of the national intelligentsia, who during the 20
th century completed his large-scale work on the integration of Ukrainian narratives into the world historical process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

RISK communication ,PESTICIDES ,CONSCIOUSNESS raising ,RISK assessment ,MULTIPLE regression analysis - Abstract
In this study, a public seminar on risk communication methods was conducted to raise awareness and disseminate accurate knowledge about residual pesticides to consumers. Additionally, surveys on consumer awareness were conducted on the attendees before and after the seminar to evaluate its effectiveness. Responses were obtained from 84 participants. The paired t-test was used to analyze the changes in awareness before and after the seminar. The results showed significant improvements in “trust in the government” and “understanding of residual pesticides.” Furthermore, step-wise multiple regression analysis was performed to explore the factors influencing satisfaction with the risk communication seminar, and the item “understanding of the safety of residual pesticides in food” was extracted. Understanding food safety is a crucial concern in daily life for consumers. To enable consumers to have an accurate understanding of food risks and make appropriate judgments, it is essential to continue implementing risk communication and conveying information about food safety and security in the future. This article explores the integration of Socratic and seminar teaching methods in basic medical education for nursing students. The study aims to find alternative approaches to nursing education that combine theoretical knowledge with practical application, promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and prepare students for the healthcare industry. The research findings indicate that the group using the integrated teaching methods achieved higher scores in practical training, basic theory, and innovation ability compared to the control group. This suggests that the integrated teaching methods offer a more comprehensive learning experience for nursing students. The article also highlights the importance of critical thinking in medicine and discusses the teaching methods of Socrates, an ancient Greek philosopher. The Socratic and Seminar teaching method, which encourages student participation and active learning, has proven effective in medical education by fostering critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and readiness for the challenges of modern healthcare. Lacan's seminars are a treasure trove of innovative psychoanalytic explorations. In Seminar X, Anxiety, he takes up this Freudian theme and explores a number of interrelated ideas: castration, the difference between the sexes, two different forms of acting out, and what he terms his only original theoretical contribution: the object a and its "various incidences." The object a is described here in detail, especially in relation to Lacan's argument that analysts who are women have a freer relationship to their desire and the countertransferences it spawns than do men. Lacan discussed Lucia Tower's classic paper, "Countertransference," in light of these notions. This essay is a close reading of Lacan's close reading of Tower, whose account, he says, must be approached in all its "innocence and freshness." [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In an interplay between the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic and topology, this paper presents material for a capstone seminar that expands on ideas from number theory, analysis, and linear algebra. It is designed to generate an immersive way of learning in which students discover new connections between familiar concepts, create definitions, and investigate non-standard questions. The ideas are arranged as a series of questions for students to explore, with expositions to the instructor on how to guide them in looking for answers. The investigations culminate in a satisfying outcome: that partition topologies are the same as unique factorization topologies, those that satisfy our topological version of the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic. INFORMATION technology industry ,EDUCATIONAL sociology ,LEARNING ,SOCIAL networks ,MODERN society ,STUDENT engagement - Abstract
The article deals with the digitalization process of the national education under conditions of digitalization of the global space. It is emphasized that in the context of increasing global challenges, it is relevant to study the impact of global processes on higher education and educational relations taking into account the impact of globalization on all spheres of social life, including education. The main purpose of the article is to highlight the issue of the possibilities of digitalization of the national education, problems, and prospects for the development of this process. It is proved that modern society responds positively to innovative processes related to the digitalization of society and education. In addition, the latest global trends have prompted all participants in the domestic educational process to intensify their efforts in improving information competence. Two important factors concerning the implementation of this process within the framework of modern educational activities are elucidated. First, it is about the emergence of a new type of communication between a lecturer and a student (the so-called "cold" communication), which goes beyond the classical one. These are, for example, WhatsApp, Zoom, Messenger, e-mail, Instagram, etc. The mental stability of all communication participants and the didactic capabilities of the Internet are highlighted as the second factor of the indicated communication. Based on the analyzed material, a conclusion that the consumer possibility of social networks has great potential is made. These resources provide the organization of educational interaction, both in the educational process and beyond, making it possible to apply elements of educational technologies, thereby increasing the involvement of students in the process of cognition and learning. The positive aspects include the variability of using social networks for educational purposes in learning and teaching activities. Aspects that require special attention are the low level of literacy in the IT industry and the inertness of the transition from a traditional form of labor to a digitalized one, which also requires some time to review its normative regulation. The department of English language of the College of Education, Majmaah University, has been running weekly/periodical seminars for well over 10 years now. Adopting an interdisciplinary take, these seminars discuss a wide range of topics in both theoretical and applied linguistics, teacher education, EFL theories, SLA, literature, culture studies, research methodology, interdisciplinary, etc. The practice has been uniquely branding the department academically and professionally, painting its distinct academic identity. This paper explored the practice deeply to find out the extent to which it has influenced the academic and professional development of the faculty members of the department. The seminar practices were probed drawing on the literature of Community of Practice (CoP) and the concept of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) (Lave & Wenger, 1991; Swales, 2017; Wenger, 1998). Three forms of grounded qualitative data were collected and triangulated. These included observational field notes, semi-structured interviews and reflective reports. The findings suggest that the long practice of the seminars has profoundly impacted the academic and professional/academic identity/professional development of the participants. The practice was also found to fit very well into the paradigms of Community of Practice resulting in a unique interactive learning, individual and professional and identity. Other layers of the distinctive features and implications of the practice were also explored and discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The problem of translation confronts every English, or French-language reader of Geschlecht III, from its title page on, by way of Derrida's decision not to translate the German noun Geschlecht. In this paper, I explore the stakes of Derrida's refusal to translate, by situating it within the context of the 1984–5 seminar, 'Philosophical Nationality and Nationalism', from which the text of Geschlecht III was taken. I show that the question of translation is already at the heart of that seminar, which concerns the place of the idiom in philosophy, and why approaching the difficulty posed by the untranslatability of a term like Geschlecht might be the very objective of Derrida's reading of Heidegger on Trakl. The materials of the article introduce a prominent personality in the art pedagogy of Poltava Oblast in the middle of the 20th century - Olena Kostyantynivna Natalevich, whose teaching school was known far beyond the borders of Ukraine. The authors of the article set themselves the goal of recreating the portrait of O.K. Natalevich - a teacher, mentor, musician, concertmaster - based on the memories of her students and archival files, to show the heredity of the generations of Olena Kostyantynivna's school in Ukraine and on European grounds, to emphasize her moral and human qualities, the cohesion of her class of students, their love for their the teacher The materials of the article include archival files of the Poltava College of Arts, as well as materials of two International Art Readings dedicated to the memory of O.K. Natalevich, to her 95th and 100th anniversaries. We can talk a lot about her pedagogical methods, but our task was to recreate the portrait of an outstanding personality, a teacher and educator, a musician, just a highly moral person. Increasing access, representation, and retention of underrepresented groups is essential across academia. Invited speaker seminars are common practice in academic science departments and serve to disseminate research, establish connections and collaborations, advance faculty careers, and connect trainees to mentors outside of departmental faculty. Thus, lack of representation among seminar speakers can affect both faculty and trainee professional development. This study characterizes gender demographics of seminar speakers across science departments at an R1 institution for the years 2015-2019, using pronoun usage as a proxy for gender identity. We found that most faculty and invited speakers were male, and few were female or nonbinary. The percentage of female and nonbinary invited speakers increased from 2015-2019 along with the percentage of female and nonbinary host faculty. Overall, male faculty hosted fewer female and nonbinary speakers than their female and nonbinary faculty colleagues. This study provides evidence for a correlation between faculty identity and the scientists they host at their department and motivates further studies investigating this relationship at other R1 institutions and institution types. - Abstract
The traditional Mediterranean diet is considered the world's most evidence-based eating pattern for promoting health and longevity. However, institutional food environments and their busy consumers often sacrifice health benefits for the convenience of faster and cheaper foods that generally are of lower quality and are more processed, and thus, contribute to the current epidemics of obesity and diabetes. Expert consensus has even identified the Mediterranean diet as the easiest to follow among healthy eating patterns. Nonetheless, fewer American families cook at home and many food services have been slow to implement healthier food options compatible with the Mediterranean diet. In September 2019, we convened a group of thought leaders at an exploratory seminar entitled: "Mediterranean Diet: Promotion and Dissemination of Healthy Eating", hosted by the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Studies at Harvard University. The multidisciplinary faculty discussed best practices for translating traditional Mediterranean lifestyle principles to modern society. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Undergraduate capstone courses in sociology are designed to integrate students' knowledge in the discipline and to culminate the classroom experience with field application. Are capstones achieving these goals in a durable way? Although the short-term outcomes of capstone courses have been researched, fewer studies have documented the long-term outcomes of capstone courses. We conducted a survey of sociology capstone alumni to understand the long-term outcomes of the sociology capstone by asking sociology alumni about their capstone experience. Our research revealed that all capstones produced long-term outcomes as measured in the alumni survey. Second, alumni of the community-based research capstone experienced a more profound and longer reaching effect than those who participated in the internship or traditional capstone seminar format. Alumni reported the development of professional skills, application of sociological concepts and research skills, and a sense of being part of a community. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SEMINARS ,AMBIVALENCE ,DECONSTRUCTION ,CONCEPTUAL history ,PHILOSOPHICAL anthropology - Abstract
In this article the author explores how the problem of the seminar enters into the work of Jacques Derrida. He shows how it emerges not only within the context of the teaching institution but also as a conceptual thematic with a history far in excess of the educational institutions of France. As early as 1968 and as late as 2003, the word, concept, figure, and institution of "the seminar" was one that Derrida worked to define and problematize. The author thus asks how Derrida's autobiographical relationship with the institution of the seminar both influenced and was influenced by what one might call the philosophical problem of the seminar. As Derrida points out on a number of occasions, the seminar is not a neutral space. Indeed, it is a particularly ambivalent one, as early discussions of it in "Plato's Pharmacy" and Clang show. In appropriating the form, not only for his teaching but also as a problematic of the seminars that he gave, the author argues that Derrida precisely embraced the ambivalence of a space at once caught up in the politics of reproduction, hegemony, and tradition and, to that very extent, the site of a potential "event." PUBLISHING ,LAW schools ,TRANSLATING & interpreting ,SOCIAL science research ,SEMINARS - Abstract
Beginning in 2008, with the French publication of volume 1 of The Beast and the Sovereign, E´ ditions Galilée, the University of Chicago Press, and an international editorial team initiated the process of editing, publishing, and translating, in reverse chronological order, the complete seminars of Jacques Derrida. These seminars, given variously at the Sorbonne, the École normale supérieure, the École des hautes études en sciences sociales, Johns Hopkins University, Yale University, the University of California, Irvine, the New School for Social Research, the Cardozo Law School, and New York University, encompass material presented as early as 1959 and as late as 2003.With Derrida's death in 2004, the seminar publications--projected to continue well into the 2050s--became the principal source of all Derrida's future, posthumous publications, now under the direction of Katie Chenoweth, director of the Bibliothèque Derrida series at the French publishing house Éditions du Seuil. This special issue of Poetics Today addresses two questions that are raised by this enterprise: First, how does the publication, mediatization, and mass dissemination of Derrida's teaching transform his corpus? Second, how does this corpus already speak to, anticipate, and preprogram the virtualization, translation, and transmission of the space of "the seminar"? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although statistical literacy has become a key competence in today's data-driven society, it is usually not a part of statistics education. To address this issue, we propose an innovative concept for a conference-like seminar on the topic of statistical literacy. This seminar draws attention to the relevance and importance of statistical literacy, and moreover, students are made aware of the process of science communication and are introduced to the peer review process for the assessment of scientific papers. In the summer term 2020, the seminar was conducted as a joint project by the University of Hamburg, the University of Muenster, and the Joachim Herz Foundation. In this article, we present the concept of the seminar and our experience with this concept in the summer term 2020. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The essence of innovative forms of organization of seminars in the process of professional growth of undergraduates of the educational program "Pedagogy of higher school" in the field of knowledge 01 Education / Pedagogy of specialty 011 Educational, pedagogical sciences is analyzed in the work. The following forms of innovative seminars that will promote the professional growth of undergraduates while studying in higher education are characterized: seminar-extended conversation, seminar-report (message), discussion of abstracts and creative works, annotated reading, seminar-problem solving, in the form of a TV program, seminar-debate (discussion), seminar-conference, seminar-press conference, problem seminar, seminarauction, seminar-quiz, seminar-competition (tournament), webinar. Analysis of the most popular types of seminars allows us to talk about the crucial role of the teacher's creative approach to the process of their implementation. Such creative seminars are received with interest by masters of the educational program "Higher School Pedagogy", because they, as future teachers of free economic education, professional higher education will introduce the same organizational forms of learning in future professional activities. At the same time, holding such seminars will promote the professional growth of undergraduates while studying in the Free Economic Zone. Summarizing the above, we note that innovative forms of organizing the educational activities of undergraduates provide high cognitive activity and interest in the study of pedagogical disciplines, improve the ability to work with multiple sources, compare the same issues, express their views in collective discussion of common problems. and summarize the knowledge gained. EARTHQUAKE resistant design ,CIVIL engineering ,ENGINEERING students ,ACADEMIC achievement ,SEMESTER system in education - Abstract
It is generally a known fact that as students come to the final year of their degree programme, they get involved in many other activities which are required for defining their future career. This sometimes lead to lesser attention in teaching-learning which has adverse affects when some unavoidable important course are to be taught only in the final semester after completing all the prerequisite requirements in the preceding semesters. This paper recommends the use of a set of innovative evaluation methods like technical quiz, seminar, mini-project and research based article writing with their appropriate weightage for calculating the internal continuous assessment instead of having only single mode of written test as practiced in conventional system. A study was carried out involving 80 students of IV year Civil Engineering in the course 'Earthquake Resistant Design of Structures'. Students were asked to give seminars in which they were tested on ability to comprehensively present and communicate the technical details. The published research articles were analysed by the students to identify the newer methods and software used. Students also got to work on a mini project at a lab scale level. The slow learners and medium learners did a much better performance in conducting projects showing increased interest in the course. The study reveals that student involvement should be retained in innovative ways till the last semester of their degree programme which has many tangible and intangible advantages in enhancing the competence of the students. College provides young adults with ongoing opportunities for relationship and sexual decision-making, but to date only limited attention has been given to college-level sexual health education experiences among first-year students. This study examined the experiences of 46 (31 women, 15 men) first-semester college students who participated in a brief sexual health seminar. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and subjected to qualitative content analysis. Participants identified five content areas related to their experience of the course: (a) reasons for course involvement, (b) retrospective expectations for course involvement, (c) course takeaway messages, (d) efficiency of course content and coverage, and (e) course impact. Findings are discussed in terms of the most to least prominent themes within each content area. Participants reported positive perceptions of course involvement and gaining the greatest knowledge in areas of sexual and relational health, prevention and healthy decision-making. Implications for research and the development of future sexual health curricula to meet the needs of diverse college student populations are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The corona crisis has challenged the academic organizations and their employees. In particular, the employees who have concentrated on live "performances" and live seminars have had to move to digital platforms. However, many academics have already done the shift, or at least a semi-shift to digital platforms. Some academics have recorded lectures, while some have done online lecturing. There are a variety of aids and tools for academics to use. The limitation for many is TIME. Generally speaking, one has enough with lecturing and all the preparations, correcting assignments, student contact, evaluating, reports to deans and whatnot. The time to explore and play with tools is simply not within the normal amount of academic hours. Nonetheless, the corona crisis has contributed to many academics taking a plunge into the online world, some gladly, some "kicking and screaming". Through three narratives, we present the work-life of "online academics", our experiences with online lecturing, online seminars and our own research on online education. Our point of departure is the opportunities and limitations that lie in the use of tools, exploring the nature of the online medium and our own experimentation. We will present theory that we have found useful for the explorative approach to online education. Our data are our own experiences, as we discuss our experiences and conclude with suggestions for further opportunities and eventual limitations regarding online education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although guest speakers have been a part of our curriculum for several decades, in recent years we have adopted a system that allows us to maximize the benefit of these speakers for our students. We provide learning opportunities before, during, and after a seminar to enhance students' scientific comprehension. Our system begins with students reading peer-reviewed literature relevant to a future seminar. In class, students work cooperatively to answer guided questions about the article, which serves as a basis for a discussion of the article among the entire class. This preparation facilitates students' understanding, their engagement, and their awareness of effective presentation techniques. Finally, small-group discussions with the speaker can provide students knowledge about their curriculum, awareness of additional opportunities, and insight into the nature of science. Our system thus provides a series of learning opportunities that ensure student engagement with the material multiple times, resulting in a deeper understanding of scientific research and effective mechanisms to communicate it. In the past 20 years, the landscape of Higher Education in the United Kingdom has changed considerably. With the prospect of tuition fees spiralling above £9,000 per year, per student, it is important to explore the impact this has upon the student experience. In spite of the vast financial investment current students make towards their education, student attendance and engagement remain low. The present study therefore adopted a qualitative approach using focus groups to explore reasons for non-attendance at university teaching sessions. Four key themes emerged; these surrounded issues about a sense of belonging to university, views of the teaching (material taught and the personality and method of the tutor), perceptions of being a consumer and external pressures. This research suggests that universities should pay particular attention to the reasons why students do not attend and possibly change practice, providing more support where appropriate.
