BackgroundArrhythmias are prevalent cardiac disorders with significant impacts on patient quality of life and mortality. Amiodarone, a class III antiarrhythmic agent, is widely used to manage both atrial and ventricular arrhythmias due to its efficacy in prolonging the cardiac action potential and its multiple antiarrhythmic properties. While clinical trials have highlighted the safety and efficacy of amiodarone, there is limited real-world data on adverse events (AEs) associated with different administration routes. This study aims to address this gap by utilizing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) to investigate the spectrum and timing of AEs related to amiodarone administration through disproportionality analysis and stratification methods.MethodsData from the FAERS database were analyzed using disproportionality analysis and reporting odds ratio (ROR) methods for comparative analysis, and the Weibull distribution for time-to-adverse-event analysis. The study examined data from 2004 through the first quarter of 2024 to analyze adverse event signals and the time of occurrence between intravenous and oral amiodarone administration.ResultsA total of 16,749 records of adverse reactions associated with amiodarone were identified. Among these, 2,412 events were related to intravenous amiodarone, and 8,220 events were related to oral amiodarone. The analysis revealed that cardiac and hepatic AEs were more common with intravenous administration, while pulmonary and thyroid-related AEs were more frequent with oral administration. Furthermore, the onset of adverse reactions varied significantly between the routes. The Weibull distribution analysis showed a median onset time of 5 days for intravenous administration compared to 74 days for oral administration. Both routes exhibited early failure-type signals, indicating a decreasing risk of AEs over time.ConclusionAmiodarone exhibits varying adverse drug reactions and onset times across different routes of administration. Clinicians should carefully consider these differences when selecting the administration route to balance the risks of adverse reactions with therapeutic benefits.

BackgroundAnxiety is widespread among adolescents, and research has shown that this condition can profoundly affect their mental, emotional, and physical well-being. The purpose of this study was to analyze gender differences in anxiety levels among adolescents and to explore the influencing factors and pathways.MethodsA total of 3601 adolescents were included in this study (age: 15.14±1.97 years; male: 48.76%). Gender, age, school category, grade, duration of sleep, duration on Internet, anxiety and several social factors were investigated by online questionnaire. Teachers were responsible for organizing students to fill out the questionnaire. The Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) was applied to measure participants’ anxiety levels over the past 2 weeks. An Ordinal Logistic Regression measured risk factors of anxiety, while a path analysis was used to estimate the structural relationship between risk factors and anxiety.ResultsThe severity of anxiety in female was higher. Approaching graduation, lack of sleep, poor peer relationships, poor ability to complete tasks, and unwillingness to seek help when in a bad mood were risk factors for anxiety in both male and female adolescents. Among female, prolonged Internet access is a risk factor for anxiety. The fit indices for the modified models were appropriate (male: GFI=0.999, IFI=0.996, TLI=0.976, CFI=0.995, AGFI=0.990, RMSEA=0.021, SRMR=0.016; female: GFI=0.997, IFI=0.990, TLI=0.971, CFI=0.990, AGFI=0.990, RMSEA=0.020, SRMR=0.018).ConclusionThe female adolescents might have higher levels of anxiety, that academic stress, sleep, peer relationships, competence, and level of social support might be influence factors on anxiety in adolescents, and that “daily duration on Internet” might not be the risk factor in male adolescent.

The development of a precise and sensitive electrochemical sensor is essential in the field of medical diagnostics in order to identify gemcitabine, a chemotherapy drug that is commonly used to treat breast cancer. This work presents a novel electrochemical sensor based on a reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanocomposite and a zirconium-based metal-organic framework (Zr-MOF) with terephthalic acid as a ligand. Gemcitabine (GEM), a chemotherapy medication used to treat breast cancer, is detected with remarkable sensitivity and selectivity by the Zr-MOF-rGO modified graphene paste electrode (GrPE) sensor. By combining the strong structure and active sites of Zr-MOF with the large surface area and electrical conductivity of rGO, the sensor's design maximizes electron transfer rates and GEM adsorption capacity. The sensor outperforms current GEM sensors with its wide linear detection range (0.5–490 μM) and low detection limit (0.008 μM). The sensor's long-term analytical applicability is confirmed by stability and reusability studies, which produced accuracy rates surpassing 94 % and RSD values below 4.21 % in recovery trials using spiked human blood serum and urine samples. Overall, the results of this investigation show that the Zr-MOF-rGO/GrPE electrode has the potential to be a useful platform for the detection of gemcitabine in patients with breast cancer.

Abstract The insufficient availability and activity of interfacial water remain a major challenge for alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Here, we propose an “on-site disruption and near-site compensation” strategy to reform the interfacial water hydrogen bonding network via deliberate cation penetration and catalyst support engineering. This concept is validated using tip-like bimetallic RuNi nanoalloys planted on super-hydrophilic and high-curvature carbon nanocages (RuNi/NC). Theoretical simulations suggest that tip-induced localized concentration of hydrated K+ facilitates optimization of interfacial water dynamics and intermediate adsorption. In situ synchrotron X-ray spectroscopy endorses an H* spillover-bridged Volmer‒Tafel mechanism synergistically relayed between Ru and Ni. Consequently, RuNi/NC exhibits low overpotential of 12 mV and high durability of 1600 h at 10 mA cm‒2 for alkaline HER, and demonstrates high performance in both water electrolysis and chlor-alkali electrolysis. This strategy offers a microscopic perspective on catalyst design for manipulation of the local interfacial water structure toward enhanced HER kinetics.

Background CASC21 was reported to be a hotspot gene in cervical cancer. The relationship between CASC21 genetic polymorphisms and cervical cancer has not been reported. Genetic factors influence the occurrence of cervical cancer. Thus, we explored the correlation between CASC21 polymorphisms and cervical cancer.Methods A total of 973 participants within 494 cervical cancer cases and 479 healthy controls were recruited. Five single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the CASC21 gene were genotyped using the Agena MassARRAY platform. Chi-squared test, logistic regression analysis, odds ratio (OR), multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR), and 95% confidence interval (95%CI) were used for data analysis.Results In the overall analysis, rs16902094 (p = .014, OR = 1.86, 95% CI = 1.12–3.08) and rs16902104 (p = .014, OR = 1.86, 95% CI = 1.12–3.09) had the risk-increasing correlation with the occurrence of cervical cancer. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in translation assessment represents a significant evolution in the field, transcending traditional human-only scoring approaches. This study specifically examines the role of ChatGPT, a multilingual, transformer-based large language model developed by OpenAI, in the automated evaluation of machine translations between Portuguese and Mandarin. Despite ChatGPT's burgeoning reputation for its advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) capabilities, research on its application in translation evaluation, particularly for this language pair, remains unexplored. To fill this gap, our research employed three prevalent machine translation tools to translate a set of twenty sentences from Chinese into Portuguese. Translated target text versions provided by professional Chinese-Portuguese translators were also included to estimate if the machine-translated target texts have achieved a certain degree of human parity. We then assessed these translations using both GPT models (ChatGPT 3.5 and ChatGPT 4.0) and five human raters to offer a comprehensive scoring analysis. The study's findings reveal that, particularly ChatGPT 4.0, exhibits substantial promise in evaluating translations across varied text types. However, this potential is tempered by notable inconsistencies and limitations in its performance. Through both quantitative analysis and qualitative insights, this research highlights the synergy between ChatGPT's automated scoring and traditional human assessment. It uncovers some key benefits of this automated approach: (1) exploring viability of automated translation evaluation, particularly in Chinese-Portuguese language pair; (2) fostering critical supplement to human evaluation, and (3) uncovering the astonishing capability of cutting-edge machine translation tools in Chinese-Portuguese language pair. Our findings contribute to a more detailed comprehension of ChatGPT's role in translation assessment and underscore the need for a balanced approach that leverages both human expertise and AI capabilities.

ABSTRACT Lactose intolerance (LI) is a prevalent condition characterized by gastrointestinal symptoms that arise following lactose consumption. Recent evidence suggests that the gut microbiome may influence lactose levels in the gut. However, there is limited understanding regarding the alterations in microbiota and metabolism between individuals with LI and non-LI. This study conducted a paired-sample investigation utilizing data from the American Gut Project (AGP) and performed metagenomic and untargeted metabolomic analyses in a Chinese cohort to explore the interaction between the gut microbiome and serum metabolites. In addition, fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) experiments were conducted to further examine the impact of the LI-associated gut microbiome on inflammatory outcomes. We identified 14 microbial genera that significantly differed between LI and controls from AGP data. Using a machine learning approach, group separation was predicted based on seven species and nine metabolites in the Chinese cohort. Notably, increased levels of Escherichia coli in the LI group were negatively correlated with several metabolites, including PC (22:6/0:0), indole, and Lyso PC, while reduced levels of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Eubacterium rectale were positively correlated with indole and furazolidone. FMT-LI rats displayed visceral hypersensitivity and an altered gut microbiota composition compared to FMT-HC rats. Metagenomic and metabolomic analyses revealed an enrichment of MAPK signaling in LI, which was confirmed by FMT-LI rats showing higher expression of ERK and RAS, along with increased concentrations of proinflammatory cytokines. This study provides valuable insights into the disrupted microbial and metabolic traits associated with LI, emphasizing potential microbiome-based approaches for its prevention and treatment.IMPORTANCELactose intolerance (LI) is a prevalent condition characterized by gastrointestinal symptoms after lactose consumption due to a deficiency of lactase. There is limited understanding regarding the microbiota and metabolic alterations between individuals with LI and non-LI. This study represents the first exploration to investigate metagenomic and metabolomic signatures among subjects with lactose intolerance as far as our knowledge. We identified 14 microbial genera in the Western cohort and 7 microbial species, along with 9 circulating metabolites in the Chinese cohort, which significantly differed in LI patients. Metagenomic and metabolomic analyses revealed an enrichment of MAPK signaling in LI patients. This finding was confirmed by FMT-LI rats, exhibiting increased expression of ERK and RAS, along with higher concentrations of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Our study provides insights into the disrupted functional and metabolic traits of the gut microbiome in LI, highlighting potential microbiome-based approaches for preventing and treating LI.

Improvements in vegetation coverage are driven by both resource endowment conditions and policy behaviors. To accurately reflect the vegetation restoration effect after ecological policies, this study used the potential realization model to calculate the potential realization degree of vegetation restoration on the Loess Plateau and to assess the vegetation restoration effect after the Grain for Green Program from 2000 to 2020. Then, the influencing factors were explored using the spatial Dubin model. The results reveal that (1) the EVI value of the Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi increased from below 0.25 at the beginning of the study to approximately 0.35 by the end, indicating that the green territory of the Loess Plateau gradually expanded to the northwest over the study period, and that the east and west of the Loess Plateau are key areas of vegetation cover for further improvement; (2) compared to the traditional EVI indicator, the potential realization degree can more accurately evaluate the vegetation restoration effect driven by ecological policies; (3) policy intensity is positively correlated with the growth rate of the vegetation restoration potential realization degree by 0.183 and significant at 1% level, making it the primary factor influencing the effect of vegetation restoration. Additionally, annual average precipitation and annual sunshine percentage have significant spatial positive contributions to the improvement of vegetation restoration on the Loess Plateau. The study’s findings are expected to contribute to the development of a scientific basis for adjusting the vegetation restoration policy on the Loess Plateau and enhancing ecological restoration efforts.

Groundwater level (GWL) in dry areas is an important parameter for understanding groundwater resources and environmental sustainability. Remote sensing data combined with machine learning algorithms have become one of the important tools for groundwater level modeling. However, the effectiveness of the above-based model in the plains of the arid zone remains underexplored. Fortunately, soil salinity and soil moisture may provide an optimized solution for GWL prediction based on the application of apparent conductivity (ECa, mS/m) using electromagnetic induction (EMI). This has not been attempted in previous studies in oases in arid regions. The study proposed two strategies to predict GWL, included an ECa-based GWL model and a remote sensing-based GWL model (RS_GWL), and then compared and explored their performances and cooperation possibilities. To this end, this study first constructed the ECa prediction model and the RS_GWL with ensemble machine learning algorithms using environmental variables and field observations (474 ECa reads and 436 groundwater level observations from a mountain–oasis–desert system, respectively). Subsequently, a strategy to improve the prediction accuracy of GWL was proposed by comparing the correlation between GWL observations and the two models. The results showed that the RS_GWL prediction model explains 30% and 90% of the spatial variability in the two value domain intervals, GWL < 10 m and GWL > 10 m, respectively. The R2 of the modeling and the validation of the ECa was 79% and 73%, respectively. Careful analysis of the scatter plots between predicted ECa and GWL revealed that when ECa varies between 0–600 mS/m, 600–800 mS/m, 800–1100 mS/m, and >1100 mS/m, the fluctuation ranges of the corresponding GWL correspond to 0–31 m, 0–15 m, 0–10 m, and 0–5 m. Finally, combining the spatial variability of ECa and RS_GWL spatial distribution map, the following optimization strategies were finally established: GWL < 5 m (in natural land with ECa > 1100 mS/m), GWL < 5 m (occupied by farmland from RS_GWL) and GWL > 10 m (from RS_GWL), and 3 < GWL < 10 m (speculated). In conclusion, this study has demonstrated that the integration of EMI technology has significantly improved the precision of forecasting shallow GWL in oasis plain regions, outperforming the outcomes achieved by the use of remote sensing data alone.

The present work aims to provide a real perspective on a bilingual's balance between communicative intention and adoption of strategies in simultaneous interpreting. Two methodological methods are adopted by analyzing the SI corpus: quantitative, in which metalinguistic aspects of the performance are examined, and qualitative, which focuses on the shifts of the interpreting product. It is concluded that: i) there are indeed communicative "strategy" that a bilingual interpreter without academic training resorts to to ensure the quality and fluidity of simultaneous interpreting, however, these intentions do not present a sufficient reasoning nor do they reveal a systematic pattern, therefore they would be designated as "intuitive strategies" of a bilingual; ii) a bilingual privileges the communicative role of interpretation to ensure the transmission of messages, instead of seeking to follow their pre-established strategies.

Abstract Angiogenesis plays an essential role in the microenvironment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). HOXD3 is involved in the metastasis and invasion of HCC cells; Whereas the underlying molecular mechanisms in the microenvironment of HCC remain unknown. Wound healing, transwell invasion, tube formation and spheroid sprouting assays were carried out to identify the effects of HCC-HOXD3-exosomes and genes on the migration of HCC cells. ChIP–PCR was applied to test the binding region of HOXD3 on CCR6, Med15, and CREBBP promoter. Exosome isolation and mRNA-seq were applied to examine the morphological characteristics of exosomes and the contained mRNA in exosomes. Co-IP and Immunofluorescence assays were used to demonstrate the role of CREBBP in the chromatin conformation of CCL20. The nude mice were used to identify the function of genes in regulating migration of HCC in vivo. In this study, integrated cellular and bioinformatic analyses revealed that HOXD3 targeted the promoter region of CCR6 and induced its transcription. CCR6 was delivered by exosomes to endothelial cells and promoted tumour migration. Overexpression of CCR6 promoted metastasis, invasion in HCCs and angiogenesis in endothelial cells (ECs), whereas its downregulation suppressed these functions. The role of HOXD3 in the metastasis and invasion of HCC cells was reversed after the suppression of CCR6. Furthermore, CCL20 was demonstrated as the ligand of CCR6, and its high expression was found in HCC tissues and cells, which was clinically associated with the poor prognosis of HCC. Mechanistically, HOXD3 targets the promoter regions of CREBBP and Med15, which affect CCL20 chromatin conformation by regulating histone acetylation and expression of Pol II to enhance the migration of HCCs. This study demonstrated the function of the HOXD3–CREBBP/Med15–CCL20–CCR6 axis in regulating invasion and migration in HCC, thus providing new therapeutic targets for HCC.

Abstract Hydrogen-Bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) are a type of emerging porous materials. At present, little research has been conducted on their solution state. This work demonstrates that HOFs fragment into small particles while maintaining their original assemblies upon dispersing in solvents, as confirmed by Cryo-electron microscopy coupled with 3D electron diffraction technology. 1D and 2D-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and zeta potential analyses indicate the HOF-based colloid solution and the isolated molecular solution have significant differences in intermolecular interactions and aggregation behavior. Such unique solution processibility allows for fabricating diverse continuous HOF membranes with high crystallinity and porosity through solution-casting approach on various substrates. Among them, HOF-BTB@AAO membranes show high C3H6 permeance (1.979 × 10−7 mol·s−1·m−2·Pa−1) and excellent separation performance toward C3H6 and C3H8 (SF = 14). This continuous membrane presents a green, low-cost, and efficient separation technology with potential applications in petroleum cracking and purification.

Empirical studies on the effects of urban forests on the health of humans and other animals are needed to rationalize the construction of urban forests for healthcare. The effects of urban forests (coniferous, broad-leaved, and mixed coniferous and broad-leaved) were studied relative to the physical and mental health of mice and the major environmental factors influencing them. Compared with the control group, the total movement distance of the mice that stayed in the coniferous forest, mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest, and broad-leaved forest increased 9.7% to 18.1%, the central grid movement distance increased 7.2% to 23.9%, central grid dwell time increased 10.7% to 16.3%, and the number of entries increased 5.2% to 18.6%, indicating that the mental state and the exploration and cognitive abilities of mice were significantly improved in the three urban forests. The broad-leaved forest had greater positive effects than the other two forest types. This can be attributed to a decrease in temperature and the increases in humidity and concentrations of oxygen and negative ions in the air in the broad-leaved forest. The research results provide a theoretical basis for building urban forests that are beneficial to the health of urban residents.

Soil salinization is a significant global ecological issue that leads to soil degradation and is recognized as one of the primary factors hindering the sustainable development of irrigated farmlands and deserts. The integration of remote sensing (RS) and machine learning algorithms is increasingly employed to deliver cost-effective, time-efficient, spatially resolved, accurately mapped, and uncertainty-quantified soil salinity information. We reviewed articles published between January 2016 and December 2023 on remote sensing-based soil salinity prediction and synthesized the latest research advancements in terms of innovation points, data, methodologies, variable importance, global soil salinity trends, current challenges, and potential future research directions. Our observations indicate that the innovations in this field focus on detection depth, iterations of data conversion methods, and the application of newly developed sensors. Statistical analysis reveals that Landsat is the most frequently utilized sensor in these studies. Furthermore, the application of deep learning algorithms remains underexplored. The ranking of soil salinity prediction accuracy across the various study areas is as follows: lake wetland (R2 = 0.81) > oasis (R2 = 0.76) > coastal zone (R2 = 0.74) > farmland (R2 = 0.71). We also examined the relationship between metadata and prediction accuracy: (1) Validation accuracy, sample size, number of variables, and mean sample salinity exhibited some correlation with modeling accuracy, while sampling depth, variable type, sampling time, and maximum salinity did not influence modeling accuracy. (2) Across a broad range of scales, large sample sizes may lead to error accumulation, which is associated with the geographic diversity of the study area. (3) The inclusion of additional environmental variables does not necessarily enhance modeling accuracy. (4) Modeling accuracy improves when the mean salinity of the study area exceeds 30 dS/m. Topography, vegetation, and temperature are relatively significant environmental covariates. Over the past 30 years, the global area affected by soil salinity has been increasing. To further enhance prediction accuracy, we provide several suggestions for the challenges and directions for future research. While remote sensing is not the sole solution, it provides unique advantages for soil salinity-related studies at both regional and global scales.

Abstract Adult skeletal muscle regeneration is mainly driven by muscle stem cells (MuSCs), which are highly heterogeneous. Although recent studies have started to characterize the heterogeneity of MuSCs, whether a subset of cells with distinct exists within MuSCs remains unanswered. Here, we find that a population of MuSCs, marked by Gli1 expression, is required for muscle regeneration. The Gli1+ MuSC population displays advantages in proliferation and differentiation both in vitro and in vivo. Depletion of this population leads to delayed muscle regeneration, while transplanted Gli1+ MuSCs support muscle regeneration more effectively than Gli1− MuSCs. Further analysis reveals that even in the uninjured muscle, Gli1+ MuSCs have elevated mTOR signaling activity, increased cell size and mitochondrial numbers compared to Gli1− MuSCs, indicating Gli1+ MuSCs are displaying the features of primed MuSCs. Moreover, Gli1+ MuSCs greatly contribute to the formation of GAlert cells after muscle injury. Collectively, our findings demonstrate that Gli1+ MuSCs represents a distinct MuSC population which is more active in the homeostatic muscle and enters the cell cycle shortly after injury. This population functions as the tissue-resident sentinel that rapidly responds to injury and initiates muscle regeneration.

Highlights The burgeoning research topic of axially coordinated single-atom catalysts (SACs) is briefly outlined in this review. A comprehensive summary of the recent advances on synthetic strategies and electrocatalytic applications of axially coordinated SACs is provided. The challenges and outlooks for future axially coordinated SACs study have been emphasized.

Under the background that asymptomatic virus carriers have infectivity for an infectious disease, we establish a difference equations model with vaccination and virus testing in this paper. Assuming that the vaccine is 100% effective for susceptible people but cannot stop the infectivity of asymptomatic virus carriers, we study how to combine vaccination and virus testing at the beginning of an epidemic to effectively block the spread of infectious disease in different population sizes. By considering the daily processing capacity of the vaccine and daily proportion of testing, the corresponding numerical simulation results are obtained. It is shown that when vaccine availability and virus testing capacity are insufficient, a reasonable combination of the above two measures can slow down or even block the spread of infectious disease. Single virus testing or vaccination can also block the spread of infectious disease, but this requires a lot of manpower, material and financial resources. When the daily proportion of virus testing is fixed, the ratio of the minimum daily processing capacity of vaccines used to block the spread of infectious disease to the corresponding population size is rather stable. It demonstrates that effective protective measures of the same infectious disease in countries and regions with different population sizes can be used as a reference. These results also provide a certain reference for decision makers on how to coordinate vaccines and virus testing resources to curb the spread of such an infectious disease in a certain population size.

Alpine forest soil in the southeastern Qinghai–Xizang Plateau plays a crucial role in regional and global climate and biogeochemical cycles, yet the elevational distribution of soil nitrogen (N) availability and losing risk is unresolved. In this study, we characterized soil N composition and key N transformation processes across different elevations in 3 typical mounts of the Qinghai–Xizang Plateau. In contrast to previous suggestions, soil total N and ammonium are found to accumulate in high elevation zones. This accumulation of N at higher altitudes is due to a consistent soil net N mineralization rate coupled with an extremely low net nitrification rate, which is suppressed by low pH and high soil moisture in high elevation zones. Moreover, the elevated rates of biological N fixation along the elevation further contribute to N accumulation in high elevation regions in which the acid-tolerant Bradyrhizobium, plant-associated Herbaspirillum, and Klebsiella are identified as the key diazotrophic microbial taxa responsible for active N fixation. Collectively, our results suggest that total N and NH4+-N accumulation in higher altitude zone is a ubiquitous phenomenon in the southeast Qinghai–Xizang Plateau, with lower nitrification rates and higher biological nitrogen fixation being key processes enabling this occurrence.

Abstract Background RecQ‐mediated genome instability 2 (RMI2) maintains genome stability by promoting DNA damage repair. It has been reported to accelerate the progression of several tumors. However, the functional mechanism of RMI2 in breast cancer remains unclear. Methods Gene expression profiles were obtained from TCGA, GTEx, and GEO databases. The expression of RMI2 and its prognostic value in breast cancer was explored. In addition, we calculated pooled standardized mean deviation (SMD) and performed a summary receiver operating characteristic (sROC) curve analysis to further determine RMI2 expression status and diagnostic significance. The functions and related signaling pathways were investigated based on GO and KEGG analyses. The PPI network was constructed by combining the STRING database and Cytoscape software. Subsequently, in vitro assays were conducted to detect the effect of RMI2 on the proliferation and migration of breast cancer cells. Results The expression of RMI2 was markedly upregulated in breast cancer tissues relative to that in normal tissues. Moreover, pooled SMD further confirmed the overexpression of RMI2 in breast cancer (SMD = 1.29, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.18–1.41, p = 0.000). The sROC curve analysis result suggested that RMI2 had a relatively high diagnostic ability in breast cancer (AUC = 0.87, 95% CI: 0.84–0.90). High RMI2 expression was associated with poor prognosis. GO and KEGG analyses revealed that RMI2 was closely related to cell adhesion, various enzyme activities, and PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. PPI analysis showed that RMI2 had interactions with proteins involved in DNA damage repair. knockdown of RMI2 remarkably inhibited the proliferation and migration of breast cancer cells, while overexpression of RMI2 exerted the opposite effects. Furthermore, we identified that RMI2 accelerates the proliferation and migration of breast cancer cells via activation of the PI3K/AKT pathway. Conclusion The results suggest that RMI2 is a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker associated with cell proliferation and migration, and may be used as a novel therapeutic target for breast cancer in the future.

Abstract Introduction Stage IB (deep myometrial invasion) high‐grade endometrioid adenocarcinoma (EA), regardless of LVSI status, is classified into high‐intermediate risk groups, requiring surgical lymph node staging. Intraoperative frozen section (IFS) is commonly used, but its adequacy and reliability vary between reports. Hence, we determined the utility of IFS in identification of high‐risk factors, including deep myometrial invasion and high‐grade. Method We retrospectively analyzed 9,985 cases operated with hysterectomy and diagnosed with FIGO stage I/II EA in postoperative paraffin section (PS) results at 30 Chinese hospitals from 2000 to 2019. We determined diagnostic performance of IFS and investigated whether the addition of IFS to preoperative biopsy and imaging could improve identification of high‐risk factors. Results IFS and postoperative PS presented the highest concordance in assessing deep myometrial invasion (Kappa: 0.834), followed by intraoperative gross examination (IGE Kappa: 0.643), MRI (Kappa: 0.395), and CT (Kappa: 0.207). IFS and postoperative PS presented the highest concordance for high‐grade EA (Kappa: 0.585) compared to diagnostic curettage (D&C 0.226) and hysteroscope (Hys 0.180). Sensitivity and specificity for detecting deep myometrial invasion were 86.21 and 97.20% for IFS versus 51.72 and 88.81% for MRI, 68.97 and 94.41% for IGE. These figures for detecting high‐grade EA were 58.21 and 96.50% for IFS versus 16.42 and 98.83% for D&C, 13.43 and 98.64% for Hys. Parallel strategies, including MRI‐IFS (Kappa: 0.626), D&C‐IFS (Kappa: 0.595), and Hys‐IFS (Kappa: 0.578) improved the diagnostic efficiencies of individual preoperative examinations. Based on the high sensitivity of IFS, parallel strategies improved the sensitivities of preoperative examinations to 89.66% (MRI), 64.18% (D&C), 62.69% (Hys), respectively, and these differences were statistically significant (p = 0.000). Conclusion IFS presented reasonable agreement rates predicting postoperative PS results, including deep myometrial invasion and high‐grade. IFS helps identify high‐intermediate risk patients in preoperative biopsy and MRI and guides intraoperative lymphadenectomy decisions in EA.

Abstract Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) is a common pediatric skeletal disease highly occurred in females. The pathogenesis of AIS has not been fully elucidated. Here, we reveal that ESR1 (Estrogen Receptor 1) expression declines in muscle stem/progenitor cells at the concave side of AIS patients. Furthermore, ESR1 is required for muscle stem/progenitor cell differentiation and disrupted ESR1 signaling leads to differentiation defects. The imbalance of ESR1 signaling in the para-spinal muscles induces scoliosis in mice, while reactivation of ESR1 signaling at the concave side by an FDA approved drug Raloxifene alleviates the curve progression. This work reveals that the asymmetric inactivation of ESR1 signaling is one of the causes of AIS. Reactivation of ESR1 signaling in para-spinal muscle by Raloxifene at the concave side could be a new strategy to treat AIS.

Abstract Background To evaluate the diagnostic performance of radiologists on breast cancer with or without artificial intelligence (AI) support. Methods A retrospective study was performed. In total, 643 mammograms (average age: 54 years; female: 100%; cancer: 62.05%) were randomly allocated into two groups. Seventy‐five percent of mammograms in each group were randomly selected for assessment by two independent radiologists, and the rest were read once. Half of the 71 radiologists could read mammograms with AI support, and the other half could not. Sensitivity, specificity, Youden's index, agreement rate, Kappa value, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and the reading time of radiologists in each group were analyzed. Abstract Introduction Myometrial invasion is a prognostic factor for lymph node metastases and decreased survival in non-endometrioid endometrial carcinoma patients. Herein, we explored the mode of myometrial invasion diagnosis in FIGO stage I non-endometrioid carcinoma and evaluated the differences in diagnostic efficiency among intraoperative frozen section (IFS), intraoperative gross examination (IGE), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and computed tomography (CT) in clinical practice. Finally, we suggested which test should be routinely performed. Method This was a historical cohort study nationwide with 30 centers in China between January 2000 and December 2019. Clinical data, including age, histology, method of myometrial invasion evaluation (MRI, CT, IGE, and IFS), and final diagnosis of postoperative paraffin sections, were collected from 490 non-endometrioid endometrial carcinoma (serous, clear cell, undifferentiated, mixed carcinoma, and carcinosarcoma) women in FIGO stage I. Results Among the 490 patients, 89.59% presented myometrial invasion. The methods reported for myometrial invasion assessment were IFS in 23.47%, IGE in 69.59%, MRI in 37.96%, and CT in 10.20% of cases. The highest concordance was detected between IFS and postoperative paraffin sections (Kappa = 0.631, accuracy = 93.04%), followed by IGE (Kappa = 0.303, accuracy = 82.40%), MRI (Kappa = 0.131, accuracy = 69.35%), and CT (Kappa = 0.118, accuracy = 50.00%). A stable diagnostic agreement between IFS and the final results was also found through the years (2000–2012: Kappa = 0.776; 2013–2014: Kappa = 0.625; 2015–2016: Kappa = 0.545; 2017–2019: Kappa = 0.652). Conclusion In China, the assessment of myometrial invasion in non-endometrioid endometrial carcinoma is often performed via IGE, but the reliability is relatively low in contrast to IFS. In clinical practice, IFS is a reliable method that can help accurately assess myometrial invasion and intraoperative decision-making (lymph node dissection or not). Hence, it should be routinely performed in non-endometrioid endometrial carcinoma patients.

According to the classical theory, multi-quantum wells (MQWs) have quantum confinement effect on photo-generated carriers, which limits its application in light-to-electric devices. However, relevant experiments showed that a large proportion of photo-generated carriers can escape from MQWs sandwiched in the p-type layer and n-type layer (PIN structure), but not in the NIN structure. In order to study this phenomenon carefully, we applied positive and negative bias to an NIN structure respectively to simulate the PIN structure. By analyzing the photoluminescence (PL) spectra, we observed a weak escape behavior of photon-generated carriers among QWs in NIN structure. The experiment results indicate that strong electric field could drive carriers to escape from QWs rather than relaxation and recombination, while in NIN structure the inhomogeneous distribution of the electric field intensity reduces the carrier transport efficiency. The further study will give new ideas to design and produce photoelectric devices.

Blue-emission (∼480 ​nm) CsPbBr3 nanoparticles with ultra-small size (∼2.1 ​nm) are synthesized using the liquid nitrogen freezing with the ligand of dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid (DBSA). Asymmetric narrow emissions at the low energy side, with the full width at half-maximum of ∼20 ​nm, are observed in solution and film at room temperature. The spectral asymmetry is mainly ascribed to phonon vibronic replica with averaged phonon energy of ∼40 ​meV. Moreover, exciting this CsPbBr3 nanoparticles solution using linearly polarized 6 ns pulsed laser at 355 ​nm, we observe polarized emission with polarization degree (PPL) of ∼7%, and PPL decreases more than 20% in the vibronic progression. However, the PPL goes to zero in frozen solutions as well as in films. Thus we speculate the polarized emission is due to the photoinduced re-alignment of nanoparticles, and the diminished PPL at the phonon side band may be due to the non-adiabatic electronic-to-vibronic transitions. The novel phenomena from the ultra-small CsPbBr3 nanoparticle demonstrated in this work may provide fundamental insights into its photophysics with direct implications for optoelectronics.

Tendo em conta a maestria na exploração de imagens vívidas e metáforas deste coleção de Parte da Paisagem, a tradução tem-se esforçado em reservar o sentimento poético para capturar a sua complexidade da vida, do tempo e da memória, permitindo que os leitores chineses apreciem a profundidade e a beleza das palavras escolhidas por Adriana Lisboa. A tradução de poesia é um desafio, uma vez que envolve não apenas a transmissão de significado, mas também a captura da musicalidade, das nuances e do ritmo dos versos, na sua tentativa de recuperar a qualidade poética e o significado dos originais. No entanto, como acontece com todas as traduções literárias, há sempre algum grau de perda devido às diferenças entre os idiomas.

A O Problema dos Três Corpos de autoria de Cixin Liu é considerada como uma das obras de ficção científica chinesa mais representantes e alcançou um sucesso fenomenal no plano internacional. Nesta obra, existem diversos realia chineses que dificultam a leitura e compreensão dos leitores sem conhecimentos culturais relacionados. Por isso, na tradução, é precisa uma série de estratégias para transferir esses realia para a língua e a cultura de chegada. O presente estudo toma como objeto de estudo os realia na primeira versão portuguesa feita diretamente da obra original chinesa O Problema dos Três Corpos e tem como objetivo identificar as estratégias principais de tradução desses realia, que concretizam a sua denotação, conotação, função no texto e função nas normas como um todo no texto de chegada. Em primeiro lugar, todos os realia chineses e as suas traduções são identificados e depois são agrupados com base na categorização de Nedergaard Larsen (1993). Através da comparação com os realia chineses, é descrita e analisada a tradução portuguesa na perspetiva de estratégias de tradução dos realia propostas por Pedersen (2011) e de modelo existencial de tradução por Loponen (2009). Por fim, é descrita e analisada a frequência de utilização de estratégias de tradução de cada categoria de realia. Os resultados do estudo indicam que a tradução é orientada para a língua e cultura de partida e recorre sobretudo à tradução direta, transliteração, especificação e adição da nota. Com essas estratégias, os significados dos realia a nível de denotação, de conotação, de função no texto e de função nas normas sejam eficientemente transferidos do texto de partida para o texto de chegada.

With the rapid growth in the number of passenger cars (PCs) in China over the past decades, more than ten million tons of used tires have already become solid wastes and subsequently caused serious environmental issues. Due to the presence of synthetic rubber in PC tires, waste PC tires cannot be disposed through rubber reclaiming technology. Thus, waste PC tires have become one of fastest growing solid wastes in China. First, the current disposal capacity of the pyrolysis method, regarded as a promising technology for the disposal of waste PC tires, is surveyed and compared with other disposal methods mentioned in previous papers. Second, this work establishes a model to predict the total number of waste PC tires in the next five years depending on the rate of PC growth and current waste tire disposal capacity. Moreover, pyrolysis is evaluated on 15 collected waste PC tires selected from the most representative tire brands in the Chinese market. The corresponding results imply that ∼68.5% of S was into oil and ∼44.3% N and large amount of heavy metals resided in solid carbon which severely limit further applications. Finally, a new pyrolysis technology is introduced that may represent a solution to the limits in the application of tire disposal methods and relief for the coming waste tire crisis.

Abstract Background The holin-endolysin lysis system plays an essential role in the phage life cycle. Endolysins are promising alternatives to antibiotics, and have been successfully used against Gram-positive bacteria. However, a few endolysins can externally lyse Gram-negative bacteria, due to the inaccessible peptidoglycan layer covered by the envelope. Results This study investigated the lysis system of a new Siphoviridae bacteriophage vB_Sal-S-S10 (S10), which, that was isolated from broiler farms, was found to be able to infect 51.4% (37/72) of tested S. enteritidis strains. Phage S10 genome had a classic holin-endolysin lysis system, except that one holin and one endolysin gene were functionally annotated. The orf 22 adjacent to the lysis cassette was identified as a new endolysin gene. Antibacterial activity assays showed that holin had an intracellular penetrating activity against S. enteritidis 35; both endolysins acted on the cell envelope of S. enteritidis 35 and showed a natural extracellular antibacterial activity, leading to a ~ 1 log titer decrease in 30 min. Protein characterization of lysin1 and lysin2 revealed that the majority of the N-terminus and the C-terminus were hydrophobic amino acids or positively charged. Conclusion In this study, a new Salmonella phage vB_Sal-S-S10 (S10) was characterized and showed an ideal development prospect. Phage S10 has a classic holin-endolysin lysis system, carrying an overlapping holin-lysin gene and a novel lysin gene. Both endolysins coded by lysin genes could externally lyse S. enteritidis. The natural extracellular antibacterial character of endolysins would provide necessary information for the development of engineering endolysin as the antibiotic alternative against the infection with multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria.

Vascular smooth muscle cell (vSMC) is highly plastic as its phenotype can change in response to mechanical cues inherent to the extracellular matrix (ECM). VSMC may be activated from its quiescent contractile phenotype to a proinflammatory phenotype, whereby the cell secretes chemotactic and inflammatory cytokines, e.g. MCP1 and IL6, to functionally regulate monocyte and macrophage infiltration during the development of various vascular diseases including arteriosclerosis. Here, by culturing vSMCs on polyacrylamide (PA) substrates with variable elastic moduli, we discovered a role of discoidin domain receptor 1 (DDR1), a receptor tyrosine kinase that binds collagens, in mediating the mechanical regulation of vSMC gene expression, phenotype, and proinflammatory responses. We found that ECM stiffness induced DDR1 phosphorylation, oligomerization, and endocytosis to repress the expression of DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1), very likely in a collagen-independent manner. The DDR1-to-DNMT1 signaling was sequentially mediated by the extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs) and p53 pathways. ECM stiffness primed vSMC to a proinflammatory phenotype and this regulation was diminished by DDR1 inhibition. In agreement with the in vitro findings, increased DDR1 phosphorylation was observed in human arterial stiffening. DDR1 inhibition in mouse attenuated the acute injury or adenine diet-induced vascular stiffening and inflammation. Furthermore, mouse vasculature with SMC-specific deletion of Dnmt1 exhibited proinflammatory and stiffening phenotypes. Our study demonstrates a role of SMC DDR1 in perceiving the mechanical microenvironments and down-regulating expression of DNMT1 to result in vascular pathologies and has potential implications for optimization of engineering artificial vascular grafts and vascular networks.

Abstract Translation policy, although an essential topic in the domain of language policy, has been understudied in China. Macau, as the earliest encounter point between the western and oriental cultures in Modern China, has been undeservingly neglected in this aspect, although its translation activities have never been interrupted since the Ming Dynasty. As such, this article sets out to trace the development of the translation policy in Macau (from its establishment to its handover to China in 1999). In particular, we will focus on tracing the historical evolution and development of the translation policy in Macau in the time span of over 400 years since the Portuguese establishment in 1557. The purpose is to cast a critical eye on its experiences in translation policymaking, using examples from official regulations, existing studies, and bibliometric data. We reconceptualize translation policy to entail the aspects of translation management, translation practices, and beliefs. Overall, the translation policy of Macau contributes to remapping the translation policy of China as important footnotes to the fuller picture of several essential historical periods.

Abstract This special issue sets out to revisit major bilingual and multilingual education policy and planning issues in key cities across the dynamic Greater Bay Area (GBA) of China (including Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau), as informed by the emerging insights from translanguaging theory (Li in Appl Linguist 39(1):9–30, 2018). Specifically, contributions are invited from the GBA and beyond to trace the milestone developments of relevant language policy and planning (LPP) initiatives featuring governmental policies on the language of instruction (e.g., English as Medium of Instruction, Chinese as Medium of Instruction) and the daily use of multiple linguistic resources or repertoires (e.g., language learner's L1 or mother tongue) in foreign/second language classrooms and/or in content-based classroom instruction. As such, major papers in the special issue not only set out to provide historical and analytical reviews of these related LPP issues across Hong Kong, Macau, and Guangdong Province but also reflect upon the language use and behaviors of the residents, showcasing their identity and attitudes and ideological stance toward the multiple languages that are being taught or used in daily life. Toward the end, we outline our research agendas for future endeavors in broader domains in the GBA and beyond through the translanguaging analytical tools. Overall, our position is that the GBA presents itself as an evolving, complex, and superdiverse zone of “Translanguaging Spaces” within which key LPP issues may need to be reconceptualized and implemented in such a way so as to fully reflect the dynamic and fluid multilingual, multicultural, and multisemiotic lived reality of the residents in this megapolis region.

Background Exploring the regulatory network of competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) as hallmarks for breast cancer development has great significance and could provide therapeutic targets. An mRNA signature predictive of prognosis and therapy response in BRCA carriers was developed according to circular RNA homeodomain-interacting protein kinase 3 (circHIPK3)-based ceRNA network. Method We constructed a circHIPK3-based ceRNA network based on GSE173766 dataset and identified potential mRNAs that were associated with BRCA mutation patients within this ceRNA network. A total of 11 prognostic mRNAs and a risk model were identified and developed by univariate Cox regression analysis and the LASSO regression analysis as well as stepAIC method. Genomic landscape was treated by mutect2 and fisher. Immune characteristics was analyzed by ESTIMATE, MCP-counter. TIDE analysis was conducted to predict immunotherapy. The clinical treatment outcomes of BRCA mutation patients were assessed using a nomogram. The proliferation, migration and invasion in breast cancer cell lines were examined using CCK8 assay and transwell assay. Result We found 241 mRNAs within the circHIPK3-based ceRNA network. An 11 mRNA-based signature was identified for prognostic model construction. High risk patients exhibited dismal prognosis, low response to immunotherapy, less immune cell infiltration and tumor mutation burden (TMB). High-risk patients were sensitive to six anti-tumor drugs, while low-risk patient were sensitive to 47 drugs. The risk score was the most effective on evaluating patients’ survival. The robustness and good prediction performance were validated in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset and immunotherapy datasets, respectively. In addition, circHIPK3 mRNA level was upregulated, and promoted cell viability, migration and invasion in breast cancer cell lines. Conclusion The current study could improve the understanding of mRNAs in relation to BRCA mutation and pave the way to develop mRNA-based therapeutic targets for breast cancer patients with BRCA mutation.

Abstract The present paper discusses how insights from translanguaging theory and pedagogy can help inform and promote genre pedagogy for teaching business communication courses such as writing and translation. To this end, the first part traces and reviews the developments of genre theory and pedagogy in tandem with translanguaging theory and pedagogy, thus teasing out their similarities and differences in historical roots, core premises, theoretical frameworks, and research methodologies. In light of these integrated accounts, the second part of the paper proposes a genre-based pedagogical framework augmented with key tenets and general principles of translanguaging pedagogy to design and implement task activities and classroom practice in teaching business communication courses in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). The paper then outlines perceivable advantages and potential challenges to the application of this translanguaging-informed genre-based pedagogical approach in curriculum design and professional training practice in superdiverse megapolis regions such as the GBA.

Through the lens of translanguaging theory and the complex, dynamic system theory (CDST) approach, the interpreting process is considered a highly complex and dynamic activity that engages the interpreter’s cognition, emotion, and action during successive “translanguaging moments” of meaning-making. Meanwhile, the two dominant types of interpreting, namely, simultaneous interpreting, and consecutive interpreting are assumed to entail distinct time sensitivity and consume different amounts of cognitive resources at different stages. Based on these assumptions, the present study analyzes interpreters’ momentary engagement during the distinct workflow tasks associated with these two modes of interpreting, with a view to probing their underlying non-linearity, self-organization and emergence dynamics from a micro-level perspective. Furthermore, we triangulated the textual description with multimodal transcription to portray these “translanguaging moments,” which are augmented with a follow-up emotional survey that corroborated our findings.

Abstract Our aim was to assess effects of breast-feeding (BF) in the association between large-for-gestational age (LGA) and body mass index (BMI) trajectories on childhood overweight from 1 to 4 years old. A total of 1649 healthcare records of mother–child pairs had detailed records of feeding practices and were included in this retrospective cohort study. Data were available in Medical Birth Registry of Xiamen between January 2011 and March 2018. Linear and logistic regression models were used to access the difference between BF and no-BF group. For offspring were LGA and BF was significantly associated with a lower BMI Z-score from 1 to 4 years old after adjustment confounders in Model 1 to 3 [difference in BMI Z-score in Model 1: estimated β: −0.07 [95%CI: −0.13 to −0.01]; Model 2: estimated β: −0.07 (−0.13 to −0.004); Model 3: estimated β: −0.06 (−0.12 to −0.001); P = 0.0221, 0.0371, 0.0471]. A significantly lower risk of childhood overweight was observed in Model 1 [odd ratio (OR): 0.85 (95%CI, 0.73 to 1.00)], P = 0.0475) with adjustment for maternal pre-pregnancy BMI. Furthermore, Model 2 and Model 3 showed LGA-BF infants had a lower risk for childhood overweight then LGA-no-BF infants [OR: 0.87 and 0.87 (95%CI, 0.73 to 1.03; 0.74 to 1.03)], however, there was no statistical significance (P = 0.1099, and 0.1125)]. BF is inversely related to BMI Z-score and risk for overweight in children were LGA from 1 to 4 years old. Adjustment for maternal pre-pregnancy BMI, the protective association between BF and childhood overweight was more significant.

Abstract Background Dysregulation of RNA binding protein (RBP) expression has been confirmed to be causally linked with tumorigenesis. The detailed biological effect and underlying mechanisms of the RBP GRSF1 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain unclear. Methods HCC cells with stable knockdown of GRSF1 were established using two sh-RNA-encoding lentiviruses. The functions of GRSF1 in HCC were explored using MTT, colony formation, flow cytometry, and Transwell assays and a xenograft model. Transcriptomic sequencing in GRSF1-deficient MHCC-97H cells was carried out to identify the downstream effector of GRSF1. The regulatory mechanisms among GRSF1, YY1 and miR-30e-5p were investigated via RNA immunoprecipitation, luciferase, RNA pull-down and ChIP assays. Several in vivo assays were used to assess the selectivity of the small-molecule compound VE-821 in HCC and to confirm the absence of general toxicity in animal models. Results GRSF1 was frequently increased in HCC tissue and cells and was associated with worse clinical outcomes. GRSF1 functions as a novel oncogenic RBP by enhancing YY1 mRNA stability, and the GUUU motifs within the YY1 3`UTR 2663-2847 were the specific binding motifs for GRSF1. YY1 feedback promoted GRSF1 expression by binding to the GRSF1 promoter. In addition, YY1 was a critical target of miR-30e-5p, which was confirmed in this study to inhibit HCC hepatocarcinogenesis. GRSF1 and miR-30e-5p competitively regulated YY1 by binding to its 3`UTR 2663-2847 region. Finally, we identified that VE-821 blocked HCC progression by inhibiting the GRSF1/YY1 pathway. Conclusion This study revealed the interaction network among GRSF1, YY1 and miR-30e-5p, providing new insight into HCC pathogenesis, and indicated that VE821 may serve as a novel agent with potential for HCC treatment through inhibition of the GRSF1/YY1 axis.

Achromobacter species colonization of Cystic Fibrosis respiratory airways is an increasing concern. Two adult patients with Cystic Fibrosis colonized by Achromobacter xylosoxidans CF418 or Achromobacter ruhlandii CF116 experienced fatal exacerbations. Achromobacter spp. are naturally resistant to several antibiotics. Therefore, phages could be valuable as therapeutics for the control of Achromobacter. In this study, thirteen lytic phages were isolated and characterized at the morphological and genomic levels for potential future use in phage therapy. They are presented here as the Achromobacter Kumeyaay phage collection. Six distinct Achromobacter phage genome clusters were identified based on a comprehensive phylogenetic analysis of the Kumeyaay collection as well as the publicly available Achromobacter phages. The infectivity of all phages in the Kumeyaay collection was tested in 23 Achromobacter clinical isolates; 78% of these isolates were lysed by at least one phage. A cryptic prophage was induced in Achromobacter xylosoxidans CF418 when infected with some of the lytic phages. This prophage genome was characterized and is presented as Achromobacter phage CF418-P1. Prophage induction during lytic phage preparation for therapy interventions require further exploration. Large-scale production of phages and removal of endotoxins using an octanol-based procedure resulted in a phage concentrate of 1 × 109 plaque-forming units per milliliter with an endotoxin concentration of 65 endotoxin units per milliliter, which is below the Food and Drugs Administration recommended maximum threshold for human administration. This study provides a comprehensive framework for the isolation, bioinformatic characterization, and safe production of phages to kill Achromobacter spp. in order to potentially manage Cystic Fibrosis (CF) pulmonary infections.

Abstract Background The prevalence of diabetes is increasing worldwide. Our study aimed to estimate the changing trends in the prevalence and incidence of diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) among Xiamen residents and the floating population using real-world data. Method We used real-world data from the System of Xiamen Citizens Health Information from 2014 to 2019 to estimate the changing trends in the prevalence and incidence of diagnosed T2DM. The System included the diagnosis of diabetes and the prescription of hypoglycemic drugs. Prevalent cases of T2DM were individuals who were diagnosed with T2DM and/or using hypoglycemic drugs. Incident cases were individuals with diagnosed T2DM and/or using hypoglycemic drugs in 2014 or 2019 who had not been diagnosed and/or did not use hypoglycemic drugs in the past. Results In 2014 and 2019, the prevalence of T2DM in Xiamen was 4.04 and 4.84%, respectively. In 2014 and 2019, the incidence rate of T2DM in Xiamen was 14.1 per 1000 person-year and 15.0 per 1000 person-year, respectively. Residents’ satisfaction with post-disaster reconstruction in earthquake-stricken areas directly affects their quality of life, which cannot be ignored in post-disaster reconstruction. More than 10 years after the Wenchuan earthquake, we took ten randomly selected villages in the five areas hardest-hit by the Wenchuan earthquake as research objects and obtained 483 valid completed questionnaires. The villagers were randomly sampled and descriptive statistical analysis, factor analysis, and ordered logistic regression were used to explore the factors and relationships influencing villagers’ satisfaction with post-disaster reconstruction in Wenchuan earthquake-stricken areas. The results show that: 1) the more rural residents know about the post-disaster reconstruction, the greater their level of satisfaction; 2) the more the annual income of families increases after resettlement, the greater the satisfaction of rural residents with the post-disaster reconstruction; 3) six public factors, namely the village committee acts as, housing construction quality, public service, policy of benefiting farmers, cultural environment, and hardware environment, all significantly positively affect residents’ overall satisfaction with post-earthquake reconstruction. This study thus enriches the theory of residents’ satisfaction studies and the practice of post-earthquake reconstruction.

Abstract In the present paper, based on the conditions that asymptomatic virus carriers are contagious and all symptomatic infected individuals wear masks, we study the impact of wearing masks in the susceptible and the asymptomatic virus carriers on the spread of infectious diseases by developing a differential equation model. At first, we give the existence, uniqueness, boundedness, and positivity of the solution as well as the basic reproduction number R 0 $R_{0}$ for the established model. Then, for two cases of wearing masks in the susceptible and the asymptomatic virus carriers where the proportion of wearing masks is fixed and the proportion of wearing masks changes with time, the results of the numerical simulation are shown in a series of pictures, and quantitative description of effects of the proportion of the population wearing masks, the protective effect of masks, and the time when they start wearing masks on the epidemic is given. Our results show that under the situation that the proportion of wearing masks is positively related to the confirmed new cases and new deaths, though the proportion will be close to 1 during the high incidence of patients, the effect on controlling the spread of such infectious diseases is far worse than the case of always maintaining a relatively higher proportion (≥0.66) of wearing masks.

Abstract Robot deburring is an effective method for improving the surface quality of the high‐voltage copper contact. The first step of robot deburring is to acquire the burr images. We propose a new burr mathematical model and build a real burr image dataset for burr image denoising. In order to improve burr image denoising effects of the high‐voltage copper contact, this study proposes an online burr image denoising algorithm, that is, block cosparsity overcomplete learning transform algorithm (BCOLTA). The penalty term and the condition number are affected by the burr parameter. The clustering and transform alternate minimisation algorithms are adopted to achieve lower computational cost and better denoising effect. In addition, BCOLTA also has a good adaptibility to inherent noise images, especially in Gaussian noise. Compared with other traditional and deep learning algorithms by no reference and full reference image quality assessment methods, BCOLTA has state‐of‐the‐art denoising effects and computational complexity on dealing with burr images. This research will play an important role in the intelligent manufacturing field.

Abstract Human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) has been used as a biomarker of endometrial cancer (EC) in clinical practice. However, there remains a lack of systemic research on the critical values of HE4 for diagnosing different clinical stages and pathological types of EC. This study investigated the accuracy of human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) in the diagnosis of EC. Patients who were hospitalized for a chief complaint of abnormal vaginal hemorrhage at Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region People's Hospital between 2014 and 2019 were consecutively included. Pathological biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of EC; there were a total of 136 EC patients and 127 non-EC patients. The accuracy of HE4 in the diagnosis of EC was assessed with SPSS software. The accuracy of HE4 for diagnosing different clinical stages and pathological types of EC was also explored. The critical value of HE4 for endometrial cancer was 52.40 mmol/L, with a sensitivity of 57.35% and a specificity of 76.38%. For different stages of EC, the critical value was 36.9 mmol/L, and the sensitivity and specificity were 28% and 87.39%, respectively. For different pathological types, the critical value was 30.60 mmol/L, and the sensitivity and specificity were 93.85% and 33.33%, respectively. The diagnostic value of HE4 for EC is moderate, and the serum HE4 level cannot reflect the stage and type of EC.

Abstract Background PGF and TNFAIP2 are important angiogenic factors, which were abnormal expression in cervical cancer (CC). However, there is currently no report investigating the relationship of PGF and TNFAIP2 gene polymorphisms to CC risk. Methods We conducted a case-control study of 342 CC patients and 498 cancer-free controls in a Chinese Uygur female population. Three SNPs (PGF rs8019391, PGF rs2268615, and TNFAIP2 rs710100) were selected and genotyped to assess the possible association of PGF and TNFAIP2 polymorphisms with CC susceptibility. Logistic regression analysis adjusted by age was used. Results PGF rs2268615 (OR = 1.39, 95% CI = 1.04–1.86, p = 0.024) and TNFAIP2 rs710100 (OR = 1.44, 95% CI =1.07–1.95, p = 0.018) polymorphisms were associated with the increased risk of CC. Moreover, T allele of PGF rs8019391 was highly represented in patients with stage III–IV compared with stage I-II (OR = 2.17, p = 4.58 × 10− 4). MDR analysis revealed a positive interaction between the SNPs. Conclusion Our data indicated that PGF rs2268615, and TNFAIP2 rs710100 polymorphisms might be risk factors for CC susceptibility, which contributed to the increased risk of CC.
