Review is presented on an optical technique for fabricating in a single step three dimensional (3D) nanostructures with diverse structural layouts. These structures illustrate its capabilities and possible areas of use in technologies.

Research was conducted to systematically examine the solvothermal reaction of sulfur, tellurium or selenium with cadmium metal powder in various organic solvents in the temperature range 120-200 degrees C for the preparation of cadmium chalcogenides. Results suggest a solvent-coordinating template mechanism to demonstrate the formation of the CdE semiconductor nanorods. The characterization of CdE was performed via Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, high-resolution electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.

A simplified method for the synthesis of gold nanorods is described. Gold colloid seeds were deposited by electrostatic attraction onto silicon wafers and grown in a HAuCl4 solution by surfactant-assisted, seed-mediated synthesis.
