Research was conducted to examine the genetic diversity of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato found in southern Britain. The PCR method was used for a more accurate assessment of the diversity and distribution of borreliae in nature. Results suggest that B burgdorferi sensu lato can be maintained in nature through the use of distinct transmission cycles with the same vector tick species but having different vertebrate host species.

The effect of experimental reduction of tick infestation levels on the survival and territorial behavior of male pheasants is described. The acaricide-treated group of male pheasants harem acquisition is highlighted.

The frequent warnings that global climate change will allow falciparum ma[aria to spread into northern latitudes, including Europe and large parts of the United States, are based on biological transmission models driven principally by temperature. These models were assessed for their value in predicting present, and therefore future, ma[aria distribution.
