A novel Ir-Mn dual-atom electrocatalyst is synthesized by a facile ion-exchange method by incorporating Ir in SrMnO3, which yields an extremely high activity and stability for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The ion exchange process occurs in a self-limitation way, which favors the formation of Ir-Mn dual-atom in the IrMnO9 unit. The incorporation of Ir modulates the electronic structure of both Ir and Mn, thereby resulting in a shorter distance of the Ir-Mn dual-atom (2.41 Å) than the Mn-Mn dual-atom (2.49 Å). The modulated Ir-Mn dual-atom enables the same spin direction O (↑) of the adsorbed *O intermediates, thus facilitating the direct coupling of the two adsorbed *O intermediates to release O2 via the oxygen-oxygen radical coupling mechanism. Electrochemical tests reveal that the Ir-SrMnO3 exhibits a superior OER's activity with a low overpotential of 207 mV at 10 mA cm-2 and achieves a mass specific activity of 1100 A gIr-1 at 1.5 V. The proton-exchange-membrane water electrolyzer with the Ir-SrMnO3 catalyst exhibits a low electrolysis voltage of 1.63 V at 1.0 A cm-2 and a stable 2000-h operation with a decay of only 15 μV h-1 at 0.5 A cm-2., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Understanding the chemical composition, origin, and molecular structure of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in multi-interface runoff is essential for comprehending the fate of laterally transported DOM in complex soil-epikarst systems of karst hillslopes. Limited information, however, is available for the optical properties and molecular compositions of the transported OM in multiple runoff components on the karst hillslope in relation to land-uses and soil thicknesses. In this study, we conducted a study to observe the changes in the quantity and quality of DOM in multiple interface flow (surface, subsurface, and epikarst) during natural rainfall events in 2022 in karst hillslopes that are covered by different land uses (cropland and shrubland) and soil thicknesses (with mean depths of 66.0 cm for deeper soil and 35.4 cm for shallower soil) in the karst region of southwest China. chemcial compositions of runoff DOM were determined by optical analysis and microbial compositions in runoff were inferred with high-throughput sequencing. The results showed that the soil-epikarst structure was controlling the runoff DOM quantity and quality during rainfall events. A decrease in the aromaticity, humification, unsaturation, and oxidation degree and an increase in carbohydrate, aminosugars, protein, and lipid compounds were found from surface to epikarst flow, indicating that plant-and soil-derived carbon decreased, while the microbially-derived carbon increased. The results were further comfirmed by the higher bacterial richness and diversity, along with fungal diversity in the epikarst flow compared to other runoff components. The bio-labile protein materials (C2) were the most important component of runoff DOM output in karst hillslopes. In surface and subsurface flow, rainfall amount, runoff rate, and discharge significantly affected the DOM concentration and quality during rainfalls, indicating that the dynamics of DOM in runoff from karst hillslopes were predominantly influenced by hydrological processes. Furthermore, the runoff DOM quality in cropland was dominated by lower unsaturation and oxidation degrees and higher protein component, compared to those in shrubland. The compositions of DOM in runoff from hillslope plots with thicker soils were primarily characterized by microbially-derived materials. Electrocardiogram (ECG) abnormalities are the most common cardiac complications after acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and predict poor outcomes. The arterial baroreflex is an essential determinant of cardiovascular autonomic regulation, with receptors mainly residing in carotid sinuses and aortic arch. The atherosclerosis of these baroreceptor-resident arteries (BRA) is very common in AIS patients and might impair baroreflex function. However, the associations between the atherosclerosis of BRA and ECG abnormalities after AIS are still unknown. In total, 228 AIS patients within 7 days after onset without a pre-existing heart disease were prospectively recruited. With computed tomography angiography, atherosclerosis conditions in 10 segments of the carotid sinuses and aortic arch were scored and summed as the Total Atherosclerosis Burden of BRA (TAB-BRA), and asymptomatic coronary artery stenosis (ACAS) ≥50% was simultaneously assessed. We performed 12-lead ECG to dynamically detect abnormal repolarization, and 24 h Holter ECG to monitor arrhythmias and heart rate variability (HRV) parameters, which are reliable indicators to assess cardiac autonomic function. We found that TAB-BRA was positively associated with abnormal repolarization (OR 1.09; CI% 1.03-1.16; p = 0.003) and serious cardiac arrhythmias (OR 1.08; CI% 1.01-1.15; p = 0.021). In addition, TAB-BRA was an important predictor of abnormal repolarization, persisting over 3 days (OR 1.17; CI% 1.05-1.30; p = 0.003). However, ACAS ≥ 50% did not relate to these ECG abnormalities. TAB-BRA was negatively correlated with parasympathetic-related HRV parameters. Our results indicated that AIS patients with a high TAB-BRA are more likely to have ECG abnormalities and delayed normalization, which may relate to the decreased cardiac parasympathetic activity, but not the accompanied ACAS ≥ 50%.

The adoption of computerized tomography (CT) technology has significantly elevated the role of pulmonary CT imaging in diagnosing and treating pulmonary diseases. However, challenges persist due to the complex relationship between lesions within pulmonary tissue and the surrounding blood vessels. These challenges involve achieving precise three-dimensional reconstruction while maintaining accurate relative positioning of these elements. To effectively address this issue, this study employs a semi-automatic precise labeling process for the target region. This procedure ensures a high level of consistency in the relative positions of lesions and the surrounding blood vessels. Additionally, a morphological gradient interpolation algorithm, combined with Gaussian filtering, is applied to facilitate high-precision three-dimensional reconstruction of both lesions and blood vessels. Furthermore, this technique enables post-reconstruction slicing at any layer, facilitating intuitive exploration of the correlation between blood vessels and lesion layers. Moreover, the study utilizes physiological knowledge to simulate real-world blood vessel intersections, determining the range of blood vessel branch angles and achieving seamless continuity at internal blood vessel branch points. The experimental results achieved a satisfactory reconstruction with an average Hausdorff distance of 1.5 mm and an average Dice coefficient of 92%, obtained by comparing the reconstructed shape with the original shape,the approach also achieves a high level of accuracy in three-dimensional reconstruction and visualization. In conclusion, this study is a valuable source of technical support for the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary diseases and holds promising potential for widespread adoption in clinical practice.

The determinants of blood pressure variability (BPV) are complex. We aimed to evaluate whether circulating high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) is associated with short-term BPV during the subacute stage of ischemic stroke. In this observational study, a consecutive series of acute ischemic stroke patients who underwent 24 h ambulator blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) during day 4 to 10 after onset were enrolled. Multivariable linear regression models were constructed to assess relationships between hsCRP and BPV. Among a total of 325 patients analyzed, the mean age was 60 years old and 72% were male. The SD, CV, ARV of 24 h SBP and DBP were more likely to be higher in patients with hsCRP ≥ 2 mg/L, and these predispositions remained unchanged in linear regression analyses after adjusting for possible confounding factors, with a dose-response relationship when patients were additionally categorized into quartiles according to hsCRP levels using the lowest quartile as a reference category. In contrast, similar results were observed for the mean of SBP but not the mean of DBP. These results indicate that hsCRP is dose-dependently associated with short-term BPV during the subacute stage of ischemic stroke. These findings suggested that patients with a higher level of hsCRP tended to have larger blood pressure fluctuations.

To promote further commercialization of proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells, developing a novel preparation method for high-performance and durable membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) is imperative. In this study, we adopt the reverse membrane deposition process and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) reinforcing technology to optimize the interface combination and durability of MEAs simultaneously for the preparation of novel MEAs with double-layer ePTFE reinforcement skeletons (DR-MEA). With the wet-contact between the liquid ionomer solution and porous catalyst layers (CLs), a tight 3D PEM/CL interface is formed in the DR-MEA. Based on this enhanced PEM/CL interface combination, the DR-MEA exhibits a significantly increased electrochemical surface area, reduced interfacial resistance, and improved power performance compared with a conventional MEA (C-MEA) based on a catalyst-coated membrane method. Furthermore, with the reinforcement of double-layer ePTFE skeletons and the support of rigid electrodes for the membranes, the DR-MEA demonstrates less mechanical degradation than the C-MEA after wet/dry cycle test, reflected in lower increase in hydrogen crossover current, interfacial resistance, and charge-transfer resistance and reduced power performance attenuation. With less mechanical degradation, the DR-MEA therefore shows less chemical degradation than the C-MEA after an open-circuit voltage durability test.

Temperature is an important near-surface microclimate parameter that plays a key role in hydrological, ecological, and biogeochemical functions. However, the spatio-temporal distribution of temperature on the invisible and inaccessible soil-weathered bedrock continuum, wherein hydrothermal processes are most active, remains poorly understood. Temperature dynamics were monitored at 5 min intervals in the air-soil-epikarst (∼3 m) system at different topographical positions of the karst peak-cluster depression in southwest China. The weathering intensity was characterized based on the physicochemical properties of samples collected through drilling. No significant difference was observed in air temperature across slope positions, which was related to the limited distance and elevation resulting in roughly consistent energy input. The control effect of air temperature on the soil-epikarst was weakened with the decrease in elevation (±0.36 to ±0.25 °C). It is attributed to the enhanced temperature regulation capacity of vegetation cover from the up slope (shrub dominant) to down slope (tree dominant) in a relatively uniform energy environment. Temperature stability is clearly distinguished in two adjacent hillslopes that were differentiated by weathering intensity. For every 1 °C change in the ambient temperature, the amplitude of soil-epikasrt temperature variation on the strongly and weakly weathered hillslopes were ±0.28 and ± 0.32 °C, respectively. The response of soil-epikarst temperature to ambient temperature was more sensitive in the wet season (±0.40 °C) than in the dry season (±0.20 °C), which was related to the cooling effect caused by abundant rainfall. The cooling effect was particularly prominent in the preferential flow development area composed of pipeline cracks, which appear in the hillslope with relatively weak weathering intensity. These demonstrate that soil-epikarst temperature responds more gently to the variability of rainfall and ambient temperature on a relatively strong weathered hillslope. Membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) are critical components in influencing the electrochemical performance of high-temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells (HT-PEMFCs). MEA manufacturing processes are mainly divided into the catalyst-coated membrane (CCM) and the catalyst-coated substrate (CCS) methods. For conventional HT-PEMFCs based on phosphoric acid-doped polybenzimidazole (PBI) membranes, the wetting surface and extreme swelling of the PA-doped PBI membranes make the CCM method difficult to apply to the fabrication of MEAs. In this study, by taking advantage of the dry surface and low swelling of a CsH 5 (PO 4 ) 2 -doped PBI membrane, an MEA fabricated by the CCM method was compared with an MEA made by the CCS method. Under each temperature condition, the peak power density of the CCM-MEA was higher than that of the CCS-MEA. Furthermore, under humidified gas conditions, an enhancement in the peak power densities was observed for both MEAs, which was attributed to the increase in the conductivity of the electrolyte membrane. The CCM-MEA exhibited a peak power density of 647 mW cm -2 at 200 °C, which was ~16% higher than that of the CCS-MEA. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy results showed that the CCM-MEA had lower ohmic resistance, which implied that it had better contact between the membrane and catalyst layer.

We selected a typical dolomite slope and set up three micro-plots (projection length was 2 m, width was 1.2 m) on the upper, middle, and lower slopes to analyze the variations of soil losses and the key influencing factors during two hydrological years (2020-2021). The results showed that soil losses at different slope positions on dolomite slopes followed an order of semi-alfisol in lower slopes (386 g·m -2 ·a -1 ) > inceptisol in middle slopes (77 g·m -2 ·a -1 ) > entisol in upper slopes (48 g·m -2 ·a -1 ). Downward along the slope, the positive correlation gradually increased between soil losses and surface soil water content, as well as rainfall, while it gradually decreased with the maximum 30 min rainfall intensity. The meteorological factors affecting soil erosion on the upper, middle and lower slopes were the maximum 30 min rainfall intensity, precipitation, average rainfall intensity and surface soil water content, respectively. Soil erosion processes on upper slopes were mainly driven by raindrop splash erosion and infiltration-excess runoff, while that on lower slopes were mainly driven by saturation-excess runoff. The volume ratio of fine soil in the soil profile was the key factor of soil losses on dolomite slopes, with an explanation rate of 93.7%. The lower slope was the key site of soil erosion in the dolomite slopes. Subsequent rock desertification management should be based on the erosion mechanism of different slope positions, while control measures should be arranged according to local conditions.

Molecule aggregation in solution is acknowledged to be universal and can regulate the molecule's physiochemical properties, which however has been rarely investigated in electrochemistry. Herein, an electrochemical method is developed to quantitatively study the aggregation behavior of the target molecule methyl viologen dichloride. It is found that the oxidation state dicationic ions stay discrete, while the singly-reduced state monoradicals yield a concentration-dependent aggregation behavior. As a result, the molecule's energy level and its redox potential can be effectively regulated. Electrochemical reduction of CO 2 (CO 2 RR) to value-added chemicals is an effective way to harvest renewable energy and utilize carbon dioxide. However, the electrocatalysts for CO 2 RR suffer from insufficient activity and selectivity due to the limitation of CO 2 activation. In this work, a Ni-doped Bi nanosheet (Ni@Bi-NS) electrocatalyst is synthesized for the electrochemical reduction of CO 2 to HCOOH. Physicochemical characterization methods are extensively used to investigate the composition and structure of the materials. Electrochemical results reveal that for the production of HCOOH, the obtained Ni@Bi-NS exhibits an equivalent current density of 51.12 mA cm -2 at -1.10 V, which is much higher than the pure Bi-NS (18.00 mA cm -2 at -1.10 V). A high Faradaic efficiency over 92.0 % for HCOOH is achieved in a wide potential range from -0.80 to -1.10 V, and particularly, the highest efficiency of 98.4 % is achieved at -0.90 V. Both experimental and theoretical results reveal that the superior activity and selectivity are attributed to the doping effect of Ni on the Bi nanosheet. The density functional theory calculation reveals that upon doping, the charge is transferred from Ni to the adjacent Bi atoms, which shifts the p-orbital electronic density states towards the Fermi level. The resultant strong orbital hybridization between Bi and the π* orbitals of CO 2 facilitates the formation of *OCHO intermediates and favors its activation. This work exhibits an effective approach to enhance the performance of membrane-electrode assembly (MEA) with KH 5 (PO 4 ) 2 -doped PBI membrane, by adding phosphoric acid (PA) in the catalyst layer (CL). The ohmic resistance and single-cell performance of the MEA, treated with PA, are reduced by ~80% and improved by ~800%, respectively, compared to that of untreated MEA. Based on the MEA pretreated with PA, the influence of humidity and temperature on the resistance and the single-cell performance are investigated. Under humidified gas conditions, the ohmic resistance of MEA is reduced but the charge transfer resistance is slightly increased. Regarding the effect of temperature, the ohmic resistance of MEA becomes lower as the temperature elevates from 140 to 180 °C, but increases at 200 °C. The maximum peak power density presents at 180 °C and 20% RH with 454 mW cm -2 . The peak power density is favored with temperature increase from 140 to 180 °C, but decreases with further increase to 200 °C. Moreover, when dry gas conditions are employed, the output performance is unstable, suggesting that humidification is necessary to inhibit degradation for a long-term stability test.

A novel organic molecule, 2,4,6-tris[1-(trimethylamonium)propyl-4-pyridiniumyl]-1,3,5-triazine hexachloride, was developed as a reversible six-electron storage electrolyte for use in an aqueous redox flow battery (ARFB). Physicochemical characterization reveals that the molecule evolves from a radical to a biradical and finally to a quinoid structure upon accepting four electrons. Both the diffusion coefficient and the rate constant were sufficiently high to run a flow battery with low concentration and kinetics polarization losses. In a demonstration unit, the assembled flow battery affords a high specific capacity of 33.0 Ah L -1 and a peak power density of 273 mW cm -2 . Background: To analyze blood flow volume alteration that involved both retrobulbar artery and internal carotid artery (ICA) in patients with non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) and to assess their relevance for the pathogenesis of NAION., Methods: Forty two patients with NAION (unilateral affected) and 42 age-matched controls participated in this study. By head-and-neck computed tomographic angiography (CTA), the diameter of ICA and ophthalmic artery (OA) were measured. By colour Doppler imaging (CDI), the mean blood flow velocity (Vm) and the blood flow volume of ICA and OA were measured or calculated. By optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA), peripapillary and optic disc vessel density were measured. Data obtained from the affected side of the patients were compared to those of the contralateral healthy side and the control., Results: Compared with the controls and the contralateral healthy side of the patients with NAION, the diameter of ICA, the blood flow volume of ICA and OA, the peripapillary and optic disc vessel density in the affected side decreased significantly (p < 0.05). However, there was no statistical difference in the diameter of OA (p = 0.179, 0.054 respectively), the Vm of OA (p = 0.052, 0.083 respectively), or the Vm of ICA (p = 0.364, 0.938 respectively) between groups. Peripapillary and optic disc vessel density were significantly positive correlated with the blood flow volume in ipsilateral ICA and OA in patients with NAION (all p < 0.01)., Conclusions: The reduction of blood flow volume was more prominent in OA and ICA than decrease of Vm, peripapillary and optic disc vessel density were significantly positive correlated with the blood flow volume of ipsilateral ICA and OA in patients with NAION., (© 2021. A rotating phenyl ring is introduced between the two pyridinium rings, namely, 1,1'-bis[3-(trimethylamonium)propyl]-4,4'-(1,4-phenylene)bispyridinium tetrachloride ((APBPy)Cl 4 ), to form a switchable conjugation. In this design, the conjugation is switched "off" in the oxidized state and the two pyridinium rings behave independently during the redox process, yielding a concomitant transfer of two electrons at the same potential and, thus, simplifying the battery management. The conjugation is switched "on" in the reduced state and the charge can be effectively delocalized, lowering the Lewis basicity and improving its chemical stability. By pairing 0.50 m (APBPy)Cl 4 with a 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yl oxyl derivative as the positive electrolyte, a flow battery delivers a high standard cell voltage of 1.730 V and a high specific capacity of 20.0 Ah L -1 . The battery also shows an exceptionally high energy efficiency of 80.8% and a superior cycling stability at 80 mA cm -2 . Various water transmitting media are related to highly variable water source compositions, which limit the understanding of the aquifer structure and hydrological processes in a karst catchment. This study aims to understand the variation in water contribution by matrix, fissure, and conduit flows during storm and seasonal scales based on discharge, electrical conductivity (EC), and nitrate measurements of stream water in a typical dolomite catchment during 2017-2018 and discusses the hydrological response mechanism of a karst aquifer to rainfall characteristics. Time-series analyses of discharge and EC indicated that the rapid response time (mean lag time < 1 h) was mainly controlled by rainfall intensity, and the lag time decreased significantly when the rainfall intensity was lower than 15 mm/h. However, the mean discharge was dominated by the rainfall amount and antecedent moisture state. Hydrograph separation based on nitrate indicates that the contribution of soil water was irrelevant for recharging the stream during a non-rain period, whereas epikarst water contributed more than 83.2% of the total flow during a rainfall event. As indicated by the EC frequency distribution analyses, the contribution ratios of the surface, conduit, fissure, and matrix flows were 1:1.8:2.1:7.1, 1:1.6:5.3:6.3, and 0:0:0:1 during stormy, heavy, and light rainfall events, respectively. These parameters indicate that the degree of karstification was low in the karst aquifer. Seasonal frequency distribution analyses of EC indicate that higher rainfall amounts and rainfall intensities during the wet season promoted the contribution of conduit flow to approximately 11.4% of the total flow; however, matrix flow dominated the recharge of the streamflow and its contribution was more than 55.6% during each season. Multiple-ring naphthalenediammonium is employed for the first time to overcome the intrinsic instability of β-CsPbI 3 perovskite via anchoring the ammonium groups occupying A-site vacancies. It improves charge transport and moisture stability giving out a champion power conversion efficiency of 16.69% for an excellent inorganic perovskite solar cell.

Objectives: Tirofiban is widely used in clinical practice for acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, whether tirofiban increases the bleeding risk or improves the outcome of AIS patients with endovascular treatment (ET) is unknown. The aim of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of tirofiban compared with those without tirofiban in AIS patients receiving ET., Methods: Systematic literature search was done in PubMed and EMBASE databases without language or time limitation. Safety outcomes were symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) and mortality. Efficacy outcomes were recanalization rate and favorable functional outcome. Review Manager 5.3 and Stata Software Package 15.0 were used to perform the meta-analysis., Results: Eleven studies with a total of 2,028 patients were included. A total of 704 (34.7%) patients were administrated tirofiban combined with ET. Meta-analysis suggested that tirofiban did not increase the risk of sICH (odds ratio (OR) 1.08; 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.81-1.46; p = 0.59) but significantly decreased mortality (OR 0.68; 95% CI 0.52-0.89; p = 0.005). There was no association between tirofiban and recanalization rate (OR 1.26; 95% CI 0.86-1.82; p = 0.23) or favorable functional outcome (OR 1.21; 95% CI 0.88-1.68; p = 0.24). Subgroup analyses indicated that preoperative tirofiban significantly increase recanalization rate (OR 3.89; 95% CI 1.70-8.93; p = 0.001) and improve favorable functional outcome (OR 2.30; 95% CI 1.15-4.60; p = 0.02)., Conclusions: Tirofiban is safe in AIS patients with ET and can significantly reduce mortality; preoperative tirofiban may be effective, but further studies are needed to confirm the efficacy., (© 2020 S. Objective: To investigate the association of the diameter of the internal carotid artery siphon (ICAS) and nonarteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION)., Methods: Thirty patients clinically diagnosed with NAION (unilateral affected) who presented to Beijing Friendship Hospital from January 2017 to October 2018 were selected. The eyes suffered from NAION were enrolled as the observation group, and the fellow healthy eyes were enrolled as the control group. The following indexes were measured: diameter of the ICAS and the ophthalmic artery (OA), intima-media thickness (IMT) of the internal carotid artery (ICA), degree of stenosis of the ICA and plaque formation, and hemodynamic parameters of the ICA and the short posterior ciliary arteries (SPCAs). All the values were compared between the two groups., Results: The diameter of the ICAS in the observation group (0.30 ± 0.07 cm) significantly narrowed compared with that of the control group (0.32 ± 0.06 cm) ( P < 0.05), but the diameter of the OA of the two groups had no significant difference. The detection rate of carotid atherosclerosis plaque, the average blood flow velocity (Vm), and the resistance index (RI) of the ICA in the observation group (46.67%, 26.81 ± 1.78 cm/s, and 0.72 ± 0.06) had significant differences compared with those of the control group (16.67%, 28.19 ± 2.75 cm/s, and 0.70 ± 0.05) ( P < 0.05), but the gradings of ICA stenosis and IMT between the two groups had no significant differences. An efficient photocatalyst based on the broadband solar response molecular system was designed and constructed for pollutant degradation in near-neutral conditions via utilizing guest polyoxometalate cluster sensitized with electron deficient host network. Photoelectrochemical analysis reveals electron-hole pairs are generated efficiently upon both visible and NIR light excitation. Its photocatalytic activity in the visible and NIR light regions is enhanced because of the contribution from the broad absorption of copper-viologen framework and the strong host-guest interactions. This stable heterogeneous catalyst is easily recollected and regenerated without the loss of activity for the next cycle.

A convenient colorimetric molecular system constructed by the zinc viologen-carboxylate framework is developed for naked eye detection of instantaneous UV exposure levels. Only narrow-band absorption in UV regions and a unique interpenetrated structure of its colorless crystal enable the system to give a fast response toward UV irradiance with intensity as low as 0.001 mw/cm 2 .

Knowledge of the temporal variability of soil water content (SWC) at the hillslope scale is essential for guiding rehabilitation strategies and for optimizing water resource management in the karst region of southwest China. This study aimed to use temporal stability analysis to upscale point-scale measurements to represent mean areal SWC on two typical karst hillslopes. Based on a grid sampling scheme (10 m × 10 m) applied to two 90 m × 120 m plots located on two hillslops, the SWC at a depth of 0-16 cm was measured 11-12 times across 259 sampling points, using time domain reflectometry (TDR) from April 2011 to October 2012. Soil texture, bulk density (BD), saturated hydraulic conductivity (K s ), organic carbon (SOC), rock fragment content (RFC), and site elevation (SE) were also measured at these locations. Results showed the hillslope with more shrub cover was wetter than the hillslope with mixed grass-shrub cover. This difference was related to the differences in soil texture, soil hydraulic permeability, and topography. Through a comparison of values obtained with the Spearman correlation coefficient (r s ), standard deviation of mean relative difference (SDRD), and mean absolute bias error (MABE), we inferred that there is a higher degree of temporal stability for SWC in wet conditions than in drier conditions on the two hillslopes. Based on the values of the index of temporal stability (ITS), which combine the mean relative difference (MRD) and SDRD, the two locations were determined to be representative of mean SWC on both hillslopes. Moreover, these locations captured changes in mean SWC (NSCE = 0.69, and 0.65, and RMSE = 1.96, and 1.96 %, respectively). This demonstrates the feasibility of using the temporal stability of SWC to acquire mean SWC on karst hillslopes of southwestern China. The indirect method, which estimates mean SWC by considering the offset between the mean and the measurement value at a time-stable location, predicted mean SWC (NSCE = 0.86, and 0.76, and RMSE = 1.29, and 1.63 %, respectively) more precisely than the direct method (mean SWC directly measured at a time-stable location), because it eliminates deviation by introducing a constant offset (MRD). We recommended the use of the indirect method to acquire mean SWC values, when an allowable bias of 5 % for both MRD and SDRD can not be achieved. In addition, we found that soil texture, RFC, and elevation affect the pattern of SWC on the shrub hillslope. These results are expected to be useful for monitoring soil water dynamics on karst hillslopes, especially for restoration purposes.

The design and synthesis of efficient electron-transporting materials have been an active area of research in the area of organic solar cells (OSCs), organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), and organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). This paper is focused on designing novel n-type donor-acceptor (D-A) copolymers as electron-transporting materials for replacing the widely used fullerene acceptor materials in OSC applications. We first present a strategy which can remarkably improve the photovoltaic performances of D-A copolymer acceptors by means of adjusting the molecular planarity and intensifying the electron-withdrawing ability of electron-deficient units. Then we further analyze the role played by the D-A copolymer acceptor in the light-absorbing performance of the active layer. On the basis of two reported two D-A copolymer acceptors (PNDIT and P(NDI2OD-T2)) which are composed of an electron-deficient naphthalene diimide (NDI) unit and different electron-rich units of thiophene or bithiophene, replacement of the NDI unit with an anthracene diimide (ADI) unit and a pyrido[2,3-g]quinoline diimide (PQD) unit can produce two types of copolymer acceptors (P2, P3 and P2a, P3a). From the calculated results, the introduction of ADI and PQD units to replace the NDI unit can significantly improve the optoelectronic properties, light-absorbing efficiencies, and intermolecular electron transport abilities of the copolymers as well as exciton separation efficiencies at donor/acceptor interface. Finally, this study would give us a theoretical guidance to design efficient D-A copolymer acceptors for replacing fullerene acceptors in organic solar cells.

An effective way to enhance the efficiency of bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells is to insert suitable bridges (π) between donor units (D) and acceptor units (A) in D-π-A copolymers. This work is devoted to uncovering how the characteristics of a HT (the substituent groups via head- to-tail (HT) connection) bithiophene bridge with different substituent groups (R = H, CH3, OCH3 and CN) affect the ground state structure, electronic, optical and charge transport properties of D-π-A copolymers for improving the photovoltaic performance. Based on the D-π-A copolymer PPBzT(2)-CEHβ (P1) with a HT bridge of 3,4'-diethylhexyl-2,2'-bithiophene (π1), we designed six new copolymers (P2-P6') by introducing six kinds of HT bridges. From the calculated results, the introduction of different substituent groups into the bithiophene-bridge can markedly affect the HOMO and LUMO levels, band gaps, light-absorbing efficiency and hole transport ability of the copolymers. In particular, the copolymer P6 combining the cyano and methoxyl groups into the bridge has remarkable electronic and optical properties and hole transport ability among all the copolymers P1-P6', and it can be a candidate for donor materials of organic solar cells. We hope that the present results could provide a theoretical guidance for designing efficient donors in organic solar cells.

A dual stimuli-responsive system was constructed by introducing methyl viologen into a luminescent europium-organic framework with a compact packing mode. In addition to absorption and emission properties that are sensitive to both light and heat involving electron/energy transfer processes, the photoactive MOF has a spectral response from UV to the visible region.

Computationally driven material design has attracted increasing interest to accelerate the search for optimal conjugated donor materials in bulk heterojunction organic solar cells. A series of novel copolymers containing benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']dithiophene (BDT) and thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione (TPD) derivatives were simulated by density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). We performed a systematic study on the influences on molecular geometry parameters, electronic properties, optical properties, photovoltaic performances, and intermolecular stacking as well as hole mobility when different chalcogenophenes in TPD derivatives were used and functional groups with different electron-withdrawing abilities such as alkyl, fluorine, sufonyl, and cyano were introduced to the nitrogen positions in electron-deficient units. The substitution position of electron-withdrawing groups may cause little steric hindrance to the neighboring donor units, especially fluorine and cyano group. It was found that the incorporation of these new electron-deficient substituents and sulfur-selenium exchange can be applicable to further modify and optimize existing molecular structures. Our findings will provide valuable guidance and chemical methodologies for a judicious material design of conjugated polymers for solar cell applications with desirable photovoltaic characteristics.

A unique hydrothermal selective hydrogenation process is carried out effectively in a simple and friendly way without adding any precious metal catalysts and hydrogen gas from outside. The self-assembly of the hydrogenated product 3-(4-(pyridin-4-yl)piperidin-1-yl) benzoate (PYPDB) with the zinc ion produces a highly stable photoactive complex Zn(PYPDB)2 displaying interesting long range electron transfer behavior in the conjugated ring system.

In the crystal structure of the title compound, C17H12N2O2·2H2O, the carboxyl-ate group is linked via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds to two water mol-ecules. The crystal packing is best described as parallel layers (viewed along the a axis) of viologen and water mol-ecules associated via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and π-π inter-actions, with a centroid-centroid separation of 3.8276 (9) Å.

An air-stable photoresponsive viologen molecular system is constructed based on a three-fold accordion interpenetrating packing arrangement. The fluorescent modulation process is coupled with a photochromic reaction via energy and electron transfer between the adjacent donor and acceptor groups.

Two novel copillar[5]arenes bearing ω-hydroxyalkoxy groups are synthesized and their self-assembly properties are studied by (1)H NMR spectroscopy, specific viscosity, and X-ray measurements. The copillar[5]arene 2b bearing a 6-hydroxyhexyloxy group exhibits a reversible self-assembly behavior, leading to the formation of the self-inclusion monomer and hugging dimers. The reversible self-assembly behavior can be controlled by tuning solvent, temperature, guest, and H-bond interaction. However, the copillar[5]arene 2a bearing a short 4-hydroxybutyloxy group does not show such a self-assembly behavior to the formation of the self-inclusion monomer and hugging dimers.

A new type of metal-phosphate-base cation sensor is constructed via attaching organic TPT fluorophores to the framework of the porous inorganic layers. It shows excellent sensitivity and selectivity for a series of cations.

A new type of electron transfer (ET) system was built via the combination of a highly stable MOF host framework and methyl viologen guest molecule. The π-stacking arrangements adjust the distance between the D-A components, contributing to the formation of an ultra long-lived charge separated state in the photo/thermo dual stimuli-responsive complex.

Keggin polyphosphotungstate cluster was captured by a porous molecular ring with light sensitizing TPT molecules as connectors and copper ions as nodes. The self-assembly reaction gives a stable host-guest supramolecular system, demonstrating efficient heterogeneous photocatalytic behavior for the degradation of methyl orange in near-neutral conditions.

In the complex cation of the title compound, [Zn(C(17)H(13)N(2)O(2))(2)(H(2)O)(4)](C(10)H(4)O(8))(2)·2.5H(2)O, the Zn(II) atom, lying on an inversion center, is coordinated by two N atoms from two N-(3-carb-oxy-phen-yl)-4,4'-bipyridin-1-ium ligands and four water mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The pyromellitate anion is double deprotonated. O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds connect the cations, anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules into a three-dimensional supra-molecular network. One of the two lattice water molecules shows an occupancy of 0.25. An intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond is present in the anion.

The title compound, {[Zn(C(12)H(8)O(4))(C(5)H(5)N)(H(2)O)]·C(5)H(5)N}(n), has been prepared by hydro-thermal reaction. The Zn(II) atom is six-coordinated by four carboxyl-ate O atoms of two p-phenylenediacrylate (ppda(2-)) ligands, one N atom of a pyridine mol-ecule and one O atom of a water mol-ecule in a distorted octa-hedral environment. The carboxyl-ate groups of the ppda(2-) anions are in a bridging-chelating mode, in which two O atoms chelate one Zn(2+) ion. These connections result in an extended chain structure. Parallel packing of the chains forms a two-dimensional network with inter-molecular edge-to-face inter-actions. Further linkages between the layers through O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions result in a three-dimensional supra-molecular architecture with one-dimensional recta-nglar channels.

The title Pb(II) coordination polymer, [PbCl(2)(C(13)H(14)N(2))], was prepared by the hydro-thermal reaction of PbCl(2) with 4,4,-trimethyl-enedipyridine in a 1:1 ratio. It exhibits a two-dimensional layered structural motif consisting of PbCl(2) chains and the flexible bridged 4,4'-trimethyl-enedipyridine ligand. The connections result in a cavity of about 4 × 15 Å.

The title compound, [Et(2)NH(2)][(EtO)PO(2)(C(6)H(5)NH)] or C(4)H(12)N(+)·C(8)H(11)NO(3)P(-), is a molecular salt with two anions containing PO(3)N groupings and two cations in the asymmetric unit. A network of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the cations and anions into a two-dimensional network.

In the title compound, {[Co(C(13)H(14)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)](ClO(4))(2)·2C(13)H(14)N(2)·2C(7)H(8)N(2)O(2)}(n), the Co(II) ion lies on a crystallographic inversion center and is coordinated by four N atoms from four symmetry-related 1,3-di-4-pyridylpropane ligands and two O atoms from two water ligands in a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination environment. The 1,3-di-4-pyridylpropane ligands are doubly bridging and connect the Co(II) ions into one-dimensional chains. The asymmetric unit also contains one uncoordinated 1,3-di-4-pyridylpropane mol-ecule, one 2-methyl-4-nitro-aniline mol-ecule and one perchlorate anion. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds connect the one-dimensional chains into a two-dimensional network.

In the title compound, [Na(C(8)H(11)NO(3)P)(H(2)O)(3)](n), the sodium cation is octa-hedrally coordinated by five water mol-ecules and one O-bonded ethyl anilinophospho-nate anion. Four of the water mol-ecules bridge to adjacent sodium ions, resulting in an infinite chain of edge-sharing NaO(6) polyhedra. A network of N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds helps to stabilize the crystal structure.

The reaction of ZnMe2 and the N-substituted phosphoramidic monoester [Et2NH2][(EtO)PO2(C6H5NH)] produces the trinuclear zinc cluster Zn(3)(Et2O)2[(EtO)PO2(C6H5NH)]6.2THF, demonstrating that the P-N bond can survive under mild solvothermal reaction conditions.
