Background: Patients with concomitant type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and aortic regurgitation (AR) can present with right ventricular (RV) dysfunction. The current study aimed to evaluate the impact of AR on RV impairment and the importance of ventricular interdependence using cardiac magnetic resonance feature tracking (CMR‑FT) in patients with T2DM., Methods: This study included 229 patients with T2DM (AR-), 88 patients with T2DM (AR+), and 122 healthy controls. The biventricular global radial strain (GRS), global circumferential strain (GCS), and global longitudinal peak strain (GLS) were calculated with CMR‑FT and compared among the healthy control, T2DM (AR-), and T2DM (AR+) groups. The RV regional strains at the basal, mid, and apical cavities between the T2DM (AR+) group and subgroups with different AR degrees were compared. Backward stepwise multivariate linear regression analyses were performed to determine the effects of AR and left ventricular (LV) strains on RV strains., Results: The RV GLS, LV GRS, LV GCS, LV GLS, interventricular septal (IVS) GRS and IVS GCS were decreased gradually from the controls through the T2DM (AR-) group to the T2DM (AR+) group. The IVS GLS of the T2DM (AR-) and T2DM (AR+) groups was lower than that of the control group. AR was independently associated with LV GRS, LV GCS, LV GLS, RV GCS, and RV GLS. If AR and LV GLSs were included in the regression analyses, AR and LV GLS were independently associated with RV GLS., Conclusion: AR can exacerbate RV dysfunction in patients with T2DM, which may be associated with the superimposed strain injury of the left ventricle and interventricular septum. The RV longitudinal and circumferential strains are important indicators of cardiac injury in T2DM and AR. The unfavorable LV-RV interdependence supports that while focusing on improving LV function, RV dysfunction should be monitored and treated in order to slow the progression of the disease and the onset of adverse outcomes., (© 2024. Background: The adverse prognostic impact of diabetes on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is poorly understood. We sought to explore the underlying mechanisms in terms of structural and functional remodelling in HCM patients with coexisting diabetes (HCM-DM)., Methods: A total of 45 HCM-DM patients were retrospectively included. Isolated HCM controls (HCM patients without diabetes) were matched to HCM-DM patients in terms of maximal wall thickness, age, and gender distribution. Left ventricular (LV) and atrial (LA) performance were evaluated using cardiac magnetic resonance feature tracking strain analyses. The associations between diabetes and LV/LA impairment were investigated by univariable and multivariable linear regression., Results: Compared with the isolated HCM controls, the HCM-DM patients had smaller end-diastolic volume and stroke volume, lower ejection fraction, larger mass/volume ratio and impaired strains in all three directions (all P < 0.05). In terms of the LA parameters, HCM-DM patients presented impaired LA reservoir and conduit strain/strain rate (all P < 0.05). Among all HCM patients, comorbidity with diabetes was independently associated with a low LV ejection fraction (β = - 6.05, P < 0.001) and impaired global longitudinal strain (β = 1.40, P = 0.007). Moreover, compared with the isolated HCM controls, HCM-DM patients presented with more myocardial fibrosis according to late gadolinium enhancement, which was an independent predictor of impaired LV global radial strain (β = - 45.81, P = 0.008), LV global circumferential strain (β = 18.25, P = 0.003), LA reservoir strain (β = - 59.20, P < 0.001) and strain rate (β = - 2.90, P = 0.002)., Conclusions: Diabetes has adverse effects on LV and LA function in HCM patients, which may be important contributors to severe manifestations and outcomes in those patients. Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is a common and highly aggressive haematological malignancy in adults. Senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) plays important roles in tumorigenesis and progression of tumour. However, the prognostic value of SASP in patients with AML has not been clarified. The present study aims to explore the prognostic value of SASP and develop a prognostic risk signature for AML. The RNA-sequencing data was collected from the TCGA, GTEx and TARGET databases. Subsequently, differentially expressed gene analysis, univariate Cox regression and LASSO regression were applied to identified prognostic SASP-related genes and construct a prognostic risk-scoring model. The risk score of each patient were calculated and patients were divided into high- or low-risk groups by the median risk score. This novel prognostic signature included 11 genes: G6PD, CDK4, RPS6KA1, UBC, H2BC12, KIR2DL4, HSF1, IFIT3, PIM1, RUNX3 and TRIM21. The patients with AML in the high-risk group had shorter OS, demonstrating that the risk score acted as a prognostic predictor, which was validated in the TAGET-AML dataset. Univariate and multivariate analysis revealed the risk score was an independent prognostic factor in patients with AML. Furthermore, the present study revealed that the risk score was associated with immune landscape, immune checkpoint gene expression and chemotherapeutic efficacy. In the present study, we constructed and validated a unique SASP-related prognostic model to assess therapeutic effect and prognosis in patients with AML, which might contribute to understanding the role of SASP in AML and guiding the treatment for AML., (© 2024 The Author(s). Background: Patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF) continue to face a heightened risk of deteriorating cardiac function, and quantitative techniques of cardiac MRI-derived cardiac structure and function provide an opportunity to explore the causes and mechanisms of cardiac deterioration., Purpose: To explore right-left ventricular interdependence in rTOF patients before and after the onset of right ventricular (RV) heart failure., Study Type: Retrospective., Population: One hundred eighteen rTOF patients (21.85 [16.74, 29.20] years, 58 females) and 34 controls (23.5 [21, 26.5] years, 17 females) that underwent cardiac MRI were analyzed, with rTOF patients being further subdivided into those with preserved RV function (N = 54) and those that experienced RV heart failure (N = 64)., Field Strength/sequence: 3.0 T/balanced steady-state free precession sequence., Assessment: RV, left ventricular (LV), and septal strain; RV and LV volume., Statistical Tests: Chi-squared tests or Fisher's exact test, One-way ANOVAs with Bonferroni's post hoc test, Pearson/Spearman correlation, and multivariate backward linear regression analysis. A two-tailed P < 0.05 was deemed as the significance threshold., Results: The MRI-derived RV, LV, and septal strain decreased sequentially in controls, patients with preserved RV function, and patients with RV heart failure, with a good intra-observer (0.909-0.964) and inter-observer (0.879-0.937) agreement. Correlations between LV and RV strain were found to change sequentially with RV function and were the closest in rTOF patients with RV heart failure (r = -0.270 to 0.506). Correlations between RV volume and septal strain was variable in controls (r = 0.483 to -0.604), patients with preserved RV function (r = -0.034 to -0.295), and patients with RV heart failure (r = -0.026 to 0.500). Background: Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) is associated with a high rate of mortality and morbidity. Evidence has shown that sex differences may be an important contributor to phenotypic heterogeneity in patients with HFrEF. Although diabetes mellitus (DM) frequently coexists with HFrEF and results in a worse prognosis, there remains a need to identify sex-related differences in the characteristics and outcomes of this population. In this study, we aimed to investigate the between-sex differences in clinical profile, left ventricular (LV) remodeling, and cardiovascular risk factors and outcomes in patients with HFrEF concomitant with DM., Methods: A total of 273 patients with HFrEF concomitant with DM who underwent cardiac MRI were included in this study. Clinical characteristics, LV remodeling as assessed by cardiac MRI, and cardiovascular risk factors and outcomes were compared between sexes., Results: Women were older, leaner and prone to have anemia and hypoproteinemia but less likely to have ischemic etiology. Cardiac MRI revealed that despite similar LVEFs between the sexes, there was more LV concentric remodeling, less impaired global systolic peak strain in longitudinal and circumferential components and a decreased likelihood of late gadolinium enhancement presence in women than in men. During a median follow-up time of 34.6 months, women exhibited better overall survival than men did (log-rank P = 0.042). Multivariable Cox proportional hazards analysis indicated different risk factors for predicting outcomes between sexes, with hypertension [hazard ratio (HR) = 2.05, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.05 to 4.85, P = 0.041] and hypoproteinemia (HR = 2.27, 95% CI 1.06 to 4.37, P = 0.039) serving as independent determinants of outcomes in women, whereas ischemic etiology (HR = 1.96, 95% CI 1.11 to 3.48, P = 0.021) and atrial fibrillation (HR = 1.86, 95% CI 1.02 to 3.41, P = 0.044) served as independent determinants of outcomes in men., Conclusions: Among patients with HFrEF concomitant with DM, women displayed different LV remodeling and risk factors and had better survival than men did. Background: The abnormal low-density protein cholesterol (LDL-C) level in the development of atherosclerosis is often comorbid in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM). This study aimed to investigate the aggravating effect of abnormal LDL-C levels on coronary artery plaques assessed by coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) in T2DM., Materials and Methods: This study collected 3439 T2DM patients from September 2011 to February 2022. Comparative analysis of differences in coronary plaque characteristics was performed for the patients between the normal LDL-C level group and the abnormal LDL-C level group. Factors with P < 0.1 in the univariable linear regression analyses were included in the multivariable linear stepwise regression., Results: A total of 2820 eligible T2DM patients were included and identified as the normal LDL-C level group (n = 973) and the abnormal LDL-C level group (n = 1847). Compared with the normal LDL-C level group, both on a per-patient basis and per-segment basis, patients with abnormal LDL-C level showed more calcified plaques, partially calcified plaques, low attenuation plaques, positive remodellings, and spotty calcifications. Multivessel obstructive disease (MVD), nonobstructive stenosis (NOS), obstructive stenosis (OS), plaque involvement degree (PID), segment stenosis score (SSS), and segment involvement scores (SIS) were likely higher in the abnormal LDL-C level group than that in the normal LDL-C level group (P < 0.001). In multivariable linear stepwise regression, the abnormal LDL-C level was validated as an independent positive correlation with high-risk coronary plaques and the degree and extent of stenosis caused by plaques (low attenuation plaque: β = 0.116; positive remodelling: β = 0.138; spotty calcification: β = 0.091; NOS: β = 0.427; OS: β = 0.659: SIS: β = 1.114; SSS: β = 2.987; PID: β = 2.716, all P value < 0.001)., Conclusions: Abnormal LDL-C levels aggravate atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in patients with T2DM. Background: Understanding the impact of aortic regurgitation (AR) on hypertensive patients' hearts is important., Purpose: To assess left ventricular (LV) strain and structure in hypertensive patients and investigate the relationship with AR severity., Study Type: Retrospective., Population: 263 hypertensive patients (99 with AR) and 62 controls, with cardiac MRI data., Field Strength/sequence: Balanced steady-state free precession (bSSFP) sequence at 3.0T., Assessment: AR was classified as mild, moderate, or severe based on echocardiographic findings. LV geometry was classified as normal, concentric remodeling, eccentric hypertrophy, or concentric hypertrophy based on MRI assessment of LV mass/volume ratio and LV Mass index (LVMI). LV global radial peak strain (GRPS), global circumferential peak strain (GCPS), and global longitudinal peak strain (GLPS) were obtained by post-processing bSSFP cine datasets using commercial software., Statistical Tests: ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis test, Spearman's correlation coefficients (r), chi-square test, and multivariable linear regression analysis. A P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: Hypertensive patients with AR had significantly lower LV myocardial strain and higher LVMI than the group without AR (GRPS 26.25 ± 12.23 vs. 34.53 ± 9.85, GCPS -17.4 ± 5.84 vs. -20.57 ± 3.57, GLPS -9.86 ± 4.08 vs. -12.95 ± 2.94, LVMI 90.56 ± 38.56 vs.58.84 ± 17.55). Of the 99 patients with AR, 56 had mild AR, 26 had moderate AR and 17 had severe AR. The degree of AR was significantly negatively correlated to the absolute values of LV GRPS, GCPS and GLPS (r = -0.284 - -0.416). LV eccentric hypertrophy increased significantly with AR severity (no AR 21.3%, mild AR 42.9%, moderate AR 73.1%, severe AR 82.4%). In multivariable analysis, the degree of AR was an independent factor affecting LV global strain and LVMI even after considering confounding factors (β values for global myocardial strain were -0.431 to -0.484, for LVMI was 0.646)., Data Conclusion: Increasing AR severity leads to decreased cardiac function and worse ventricular geometric phenotypes in hypertensive patients., Level of Evidence: 4 TECHNICAL EFFICACY: Stage 3., (© 2023 The Authors. Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) results in right ventricular (RV) dysfunction, subsequently leading to left ventricular (LV) impairment. The mechanism underlying ventricular interdependence is largely uninvestigated., Purpose: To explore the biventricular dysfunction and the ventricular interdependence in PH patients., Study Type: Retrospective., Population: One hundred and seven PH patients (mean pulmonary artery pressure >20 mmHg) and 72 age- and sex-matched controls with cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies., Field Strength/sequence: 3.0 T/balanced steady-state free precession sequence., Assessment: LV and RV ejection fractions (EF) and RV and LV radial, circumferential, and longitudinal strains were assessed using commercial software. Strains were compared between controls, PH patients with preserved RVEF (RVEF ≥40%, N = 48), and PH patients with reduced RVEF (RVEF <40%, N = 59)., Statistical Tests: Chi-squared tests or Fisher's exact test, t tests or Mann-Whitney U test, one-way ANOVA with Bonferroni's post hoc correction or Kruskal-Wallis test, Pearson or Spearman correlation, and multivariable linear regression analysis. PH patients with reduced RVEF had significantly lower LV strain, especially septal strain, and LV peak diastolic strain rate compared with both controls and PH patients with preserved RVEF. Multivariable analyses showed that RVEF was independently correlated with LV strain; furthermore, independent of RVEF, RV strain was significantly correlated with LV strain (LVGRS: β = 0.416; LVGCS: β = -0.371; LVGLS: β = 0.283)., Data Conclusion: Subclinical impairment of RV function was found in PH with preserved RVEF. LV strain was impaired when RV was dysfunctional, which was associated with worsening RV strain. Background: The alteration of left atrial (LA) phasic function in subacute and chronic pulmonary embolism (PE) patients is unclear., Purpose: To investigate LA phasic strain and LA-right ventricular (RV) interaction in subacute and chronic PE patients with different degrees of obstruction by MRI-feature tracking (MRI-FT)., Study Type: Retrospective., Population: One hundred three PE patients (54 subacute [2 weeks to 3 months after initial symptoms], 49 chronic [>3 months after initial symptoms]) and 80 controls., Field Strength/sequence: 3.0 T/balanced steady state free precession sequence., Assessment: Patients were divided into mild (pulmonary artery obstruction index [PAOI] < 30%, N = 57), moderate (30% ≤ PAOI < 50%, N = 27), and severe (50% ≥ PAOI, N = 19) PE subgroups. LA reservoir, conduit, and active pump longitudinal strains (εs, εe, and εa) and strain rates (SRs, SRe, and SRa) and biventricular global strains were measured. Determinants of LA strains were investigated., Statistical Tests: ANOVA, t-tests, Mann-Whitney U tests, linear regression. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: For both subacute and chronic PE patients, LA reservoir, conduit, and active pump strains and strain rates were significantly lower than in controls. However, there were no significant differences in LA strains between patients with subacute and chronic PE (P = 0.933, 0.625, and 0.630 for εs, εe, and εa). The severe PE subgroup had significantly higher εa and SRa than the mild and moderate PE subgroups. LA strains were significantly correlated with RV diameter and biventricular strains, and RV diameter (β = -6.836, -4.084, and -1.899 for εs, εe, and εa) was independently associated with LA strains after adjustment for other factors (R 2  = 0.627, 0.536, and 0.437 for εs, εe, and εa)., Data Conclusion: LA phasic function evaluated by MRI-FT was significantly impaired in subacute and chronic PE patients, and LA active pump function in the severe PE subgroup was higher than that in the mild and moderate PE subgroups. Background: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is the most prevalent complication of diabetes, and has been demonstrated to be independently associated with cardiovascular events and mortality. This aim of this study was to investigate the subclinical left ventricular (LV) myocardial dysfunction in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with and without DPN., Methods: One hundred and thirty T2DM patients without DPN, 61 patients with DPN and 65 age and sex-matched controls who underwent cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging were included, all subjects had no symptoms of heart failure and LV ejection fraction ≥ 50%. LV myocardial non-infarct late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) was determined. LV global strains, including radial, circumferential and longitudinal peak strain (PS) and peak systolic and diastolic strain rates (PSSR and PDSR, respectively), were evaluated using CMR feature tracking and compared among the three groups. Multivariable linear regression analyses were performed to determine the independent factors of reduced LV global myocardial strains in T2DM patients., Results: The prevalence of non-infarct LGE was higher in patients with DPN than those without DPN (37.7% vs. 19.2%, p = 0.008). The LV radial and longitudinal PS (radial: 36.60 ± 7.24% vs. 33.57 ± 7.30% vs. 30.72 ± 8.68%; longitudinal: - 15.03 ± 2.52% vs. - 13.39 ± 2.48% vs. - 11.89 ± 3.02%), as well as longitudinal PDSR [0.89 (0.76, 1.05) 1/s vs. 0.80 (0.71, 0.93) 1/s vs. 0.77 (0.63, 0.87) 1/s] were decreased significantly from controls through T2DM patients without DPN to patients with DPN (all p < 0.001). LV radial and circumferential PDSR, as well as circumferential PS were reduced in both patient groups (all p < 0.05), but were not different between the two groups (all p > 0.05). Radial and longitudinal PSSR were decreased in patients with DPN (p = 0.006 and 0.003, respectively) but preserved in those without DPN (all p > 0.05). Multivariable linear regression analyses adjusting for confounders demonstrated that DPN was independently associated with LV radial and longitudinal PS (β = - 3.025 and 1.187, p = 0.014 and 0.003, respectively) and PDSR (β = 0.283 and - 0.086, p = 0.016 and 0.001, respectively), as well as radial PSSR (β = - 0.266, p = 0.007)., Conclusions: There was more severe subclinical LV dysfunction in T2DM patients complicated with DPN than those without DPN, suggesting further prospective study with more active intervention in this cohort of patients., (© 2024. Background: Stress hyperglycemia occurs frequently in patients following acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and may aggravate myocardial stiffness, but relevant evidence is still lacking. Accordingly, this study aimed to examine the impact of admission stress hyperglycemia on left ventricular (LV) myocardial deformation in patients following AMI., Methods: A total of 171 patients with first AMI (96 with normoglycemia and 75 with hyperglycemia) underwent cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) examination were included. AMI patients were classified according to admission blood glucose level (aBGL): < 7.8 mmol/L (n = 96), 7.8-11.1 mmol/L (n = 41) and ≥ 11.1 mmol/L (n = 34). LV strains, including global radial/circumferential/longitudinal peak strain (PS)/peak systolic strain rate (PSSR)/peak diastolic strain rate (PDSR), were measured and compared between groups. Further, subgroup analyses were separately conducted for AMI patients with and without diabetes. Multivariate analysis was employed to assess the independent association between aBGL and LV global PS in AMI patients., Results: LV global PS, PSSR and PDSR were decreased in radial, circumferential and longitudinal directions in hyperglycemic AMI patients compared with normoglycemic AMI patients (all P < 0.05). These differences were more obvious in patients with diabetes than those without diabetes. AMI patients with aBGL between 7.8 and 11.1 mmol/L demonstrated significant decreased radial and longitudinal PS, radial PSSR, and radial and longitudinal PDSR than those with aBGL < 7.8 mmol/L (all P < 0.05). AMI patients with aBGL ≥ 11.1 mmol/L showed significantly decreased PS, PSSR and PDSR in all three directions than those with aBGL < 7.8 mmol/L, and decreased longitudinal PSSR than those with aBGL between 7.8 and 11.1 (all P < 0.05). Further, aBGL was significantly and independently associated with radial (β = - 0.166, P = 0.003) and longitudinal (β = 0.143, P = 0.008) PS., Conclusions: Hyperglycemia may exacerbate LV myocardial stiffness in patients experienced first AMI, leading to reduction in LV strains. aBGL was an independent indicator of impaired LV global PS in AMI patients. Background: The impact of functional mitral regurgitation and type 2 mellitus diabetes (T2DM) on left ventricular (LV) strain in nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM) patients remains unclear., Purpose: To evaluate the impact of mitral regurgitation severity on LV strain, and explore additive effect of T2DM on LV function across varying mitral regurgitation severity levels in NIDCM patients., Study Type: Retrospective., Population: 352 NIDCM (T2DM-) patients (49.1 ± 14.6 years, 67% male) (207, 85, and 60 no/mild, moderate, and severe mitral regurgitation) and 96 NIDCM (T2DM+) patients (55.2 ± 12.4 years, 77% male) (47, 30, and 19 no/mild, moderate, and severe mitral regurgitation)., Field Strength/sequence: 3.0 T/balanced steady-state free precession sequence., Assessment: LV geometric parameters and strain were measured and compared among groups. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: LV GLPS and longitudinal PDSR decreased gradually with increasing mitral regurgitation severity in NIDCM patients with T2DM(GLPS: -5.7% ± 2.1% vs. -4.3% ± 1.6% vs. -2.6% ± 1.3%; longitudinal PDSR:0.5 ± 0.2 sec -1 vs. 0.4 ± 0.2 sec -1 vs. 0.3 ± 0.1 sec -1 ). NIDCM (T2DM+) demonstrated decreased GCPS and GLPS in the no/mild subgroup, reduced LV GCPS, GLPS, and longitudinal PDSR in the moderate subgroup, and reduced GRPS, GCPS, GLPS, and longitudinal PDSR in the severe subgroup compared with NIDCM (T2DM-) patients. Background: The effect of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) on coronary atherosclerosis detected on coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) in hypertensive patients has attracted increasing attention. This study investigated the relationships of T2DM with coronary artery plaque characteristics and semiquantitative CCTA scores in hypertensive patients., Materials and Methods: In this single-center study, 1,700 hypertensive patients, including 850 T2DM [HT(T2DM+)] and 850 non-T2DM [HT(T2DM-)] individuals, were retrospectively analyzed after propensity matching. Plaque type, extent, coronary stenosis, segment involvement score (SIS), segment stenosis score (SSS), and CT-based Leaman score (CT-LeSc) based on CCTA were assessed and compared between the two groups., Results: HT(T2DM+) patients had more coronary segments with calcified plaque (2.08 ± 2.20 vs. 1.40 ± 1.91), mixed plaque (2.90 ± 2.87 vs. 2.50 ± 2.66), nonobstructive stenosis (4.23 ± 2.44 vs. 3.62 ± 2.42), and obstructive stenosis (1.22 ± 2.18 vs. 0.78 ± 1.51), a lower proportion of 1-vessel disease (15.3% vs. 25.5%), a higher proportion of 3-vessel disease (59.6% vs. 46.7%), and higher SIS (5.5 ± 3.1 vs. 4.4 ± 3.0), SSS (10.3 ± 8.5 vs. 7.7 ± 7.1), and CT-LeSc (9.4 ± 5.6 vs. 7.9 ± 5.2) than HT(T2DM-) patients (all P -values <0.05). Multivariable analysis revealed that T2DM was an independent risk factor for calcified plaque [odds ratio (OR) = 2.213], obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) (OR = 1.271), multivessel disease (OR = 1.838), SIS > 4 (OR = 1.910), SSS > 6 (OR = 1.718), and CT-LeSc > 5 (OR = 1.584) in hypertension population (all P -values <0.05)., Conclusion: T2DM was independently associated with the presence of calcified coronary artery plaque and increased the risk of obstructive CAD, multivessel disease, and CT-LeSc > 5 in hypertensive patients. Background: Cardiac MRI feature-tracking (FT) with breath-holding (BH) cine balanced steady state free precession (bSSFP) imaging is well established. It is unclear whether FT-strain measurements can be reliably derived from free-breathing (FB) compressed sensing (CS) bSSFP imaging., Purpose: To compare left ventricular (LV) strain analysis and image quality of an FB CS bSSFP cine sequence with that of a conventional BH bSSFP sequence in children., Study Type: Prospective., Subjects: 40 children able to perform BHs (cohort 1 [12.1 ± 2.2 years]) and 17 children unable to perform BHs (cohort 2 [5.2 ± 1.8 years])., Field Strength/sequence: 3T, bSSFP sequence with and without CS., Assessment: Acquisition times and image quality were assessed. LV myocardial deformation parameters were compared between BH cine and FB CS cine studies in cohort 1. Strain indices and image quality of FB CS cine studies were also assessed in cohort 2. No significant difference were found in global circumferential strain rate (P = 0.089), global longitudinal strain rate (P = 0.366) and EuroCMR image quality scores (P = 0.128) between BH and FB sequences in cohort 1. The overall image quality score of FB CS cine in cohort 2 was 3.5 ± 0.5 with acquisition time of 14.7 ± 2.1 s. Background: Glycemic control, as measured by glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), is an important biomarker to evaluate diabetes severity and is believed to be associated with heart failure development. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) commonly coexist, and the combination of these two diseases indicates a considerably poorer outcome than either disease alone. Therefore, glycemic control should be carefully managed. The present study aimed to explore the association between glycemic control and clinical outcomes, and to determine the optimal glycemic target in this specific population., Methods: A total of 262 patients who underwent cardiac MRI were included and were split by HbA1c levels [HbA1c < 6.5% (intensive control), HbA1c 6.5-7.5% (modest control), and HbA1c > 7.5% (poor control)]. The biventricular volume and function, as well as left ventricular (LV) systolic strains in patients in different HbA1c categories, were measured and compared. The primary and secondary outcomes were recorded. The association of different HbA1c levels with adverse outcomes was assessed., Results: Despite similar biventricular ejection fractions, both patients with intensive and poor glycemic control exhibited prominent deterioration of LV systolic strain in the longitudinal component (P = 0.004). After a median follow-up of 35.0 months, 55 patients (21.0%) experienced at least one confirmed endpoint event. Cox multivariable analysis indicated that both patients in the lowest and highest HbA1c categories exhibited a more than 2-fold increase in the risk for primary outcomes [HbA1c < 6.5%: hazard ratio (HR) = 2.42, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.07-5.45; P = 0.033; HbA1c > 7.5%: HR = 2.24, 95% CI = 1.01-4.99; P = 0.038] and secondary outcomes (HbA1c < 6.5%: HR = 2.84, 95% CI = 1.16-6.96; P = 0.022; HbA1c > 7.5%: HR = 2.65, 95% CI = 1.08-6.50; P = 0.038) compared with those in the middle HbA1c category., Conclusions: We showed a U-shaped association of glycemic control with clinical outcomes in patients with T2DM and HFrEF, with the lowest risk of adverse outcomes among patients with modest glycemic control. Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is associated with worse prognosis in patients with myocardial infarction (MI). However, it is unclear how MetS in MI patients is associated with left atrial (LA) and left ventricular (LV) deformation., Purpose: To determine the effect of MetS on LA and LV deformation and atrioventricular interactions in MI patients., Study Type: Retrospective., Population: One hundred eighty-one MI patients (73 MetS+ and 108 MetS-), 107 age- and sex-matched controls (49 MetS+ and 58 MetS-)., Field Strength/sequence: 3.0 T/balanced steady-state free precession (SSFP)/segmented phase-sensitive inversion recovery SSFP sequence., Assessment: LA strain and strain rates (reservoir, conduit, and active), left atrioventricular coupling index (LACI), and LV geometry and radial, circumferential and longitudinal global peak strains (PS) were compared among groups., Statistical Tests: Two-way analysis of variance, Spearman and Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multivariable linear regression analysis. Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) can increase the risk of morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular disease and obstructive coronary artery disease (OCAD), which usually have a poor prognosis. This study aimed to explore the impact of MetS on left ventricular (LV) deformation and function in OCAD patients and investigate the independent factors of impaired LV function and deformation., Materials and Methods: A total of 121 patients with OCAD and 52 sex- and age-matched controls who underwent cardiac magnetic resonance scanning were enrolled in the study. All OCAD patients were divided into two groups: OCAD with MetS [OCAD(MetS+), n = 83] and OCAD without MetS [OCAD(MetS-), n = 38]. LV functional and global strain parameters were measured and compared among the three groups. Multivariable linear regression analyses were constructed to investigate the independent factors of LV impairment in OCAD patients. Logistic regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis were performed to test the prediction efficiency of MetS for LV impairment., Results: From controls to the OCAD(MetS-) group to the OCAD(MetS+) group, LV mass (LVM) increased, and LV global function index (LVGFI) and LV global longitudinal peak strain (GLPS) decreased (all p < 0.05). Compared with the OCAD(MetS-) group, the LV GLPS declined significantly (p = 0.027), the LVM increased (p = 0.006), and the LVGFI decreased (p = 0.043) in the OCAD(MetS+) group. After adjustment for covariates in OCAD patients, MetS was an independent factor of decreased LV GLPS (β = - 0.211, p = 0.002) and increased LVM (β = 0.221, p = 0.003). The logistic multivariable regression analysis and ROC analysis showed that combined MetS improved the efficiency of predicting LV GLPS reduction (AUC = 0.88) and LVM (AUC = 0.89) increase., Conclusions: MetS aggravated the damage of LV deformation and function in OCAD patients and was independently associated with LV deformation and impaired LV strain. RV global PS was significantly associated with LV global PS and IVS PS in radial, circumferential, and longitudinal directions. Multivariable analyses demonstrated the longitudinal PS of IVS was significantly correlated with RV global radial PS (β = 0.614) and circumferential PS (β = 0.545). Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) has been linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular death, overall mortality and heart failure in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The present study investigated the additive effects of paroxysmal AF on left ventricular (LV) function and deformation in T2DM patients with or without AF using the cardiovascular magnetic resonance feature tracking (CMR-FT) technique., Methods: The present study encompassed 225 T2DM patients differentiated by the presence or absence of paroxysmal AF [T2DM(AF+) and T2DM(AF-), respectively], along with 75 age and sex matched controls, all of whom underwent CMR examination. LV function and global strains, including radial, circumferential and longitudinal peak strain (PS), as well as peak systolic and diastolic strain rates (PSSR and PDSR, respectively), were measured and compared among the groups. Multivariable linear regression analysis was used to examine the factors associated with LV global strains in patients with T2DM., Results: The T2DM(AF+) group was the oldest, had the highest LV end‑systolic volume index, lowest LV ejection fraction and estimated glomerular filtration rate compared to the control and T2DM(AF-) groups, and presented a shorter diabetes duration and lower HbA1c than the T2DM(AF-) group. LV PS-radial, PS-longitudinal and PDSR-radial declined successively from controls through the T2DM(AF-) group to the T2DM(AF+) group (all p < 0.001). Compared to the control group, LV PS-circumferential, PSSR-radial and PDSR-circumferential were decreased in the T2DM(AF+) group (all p < 0.001) but preserved in the T2DM(AF-) group. Among all clinical indices, AF was independently associated with worsening LV PS-longitudinal (β = 2.218, p < 0.001), PS-circumferential (β = 3.948, p < 0.001), PS-radial (β = - 8.40, p < 0.001), PSSR-radial and -circumferential (β = - 0.345 and 0.101, p = 0.002 and 0.014, respectively), PDSR-radial and -circumferential (β = 0.359 and - 0.14, p = 0.022 and 0.003, respectively)., Conclusions: In patients with T2DM, the presence of paroxysmal AF further exacerbates LV function and deformation. Background: Patients with restrictive cardiomyopathy (RCM) have impaired diastolic filling and hemodynamic congestion. Pulmonary transit time (PTT) and pulmonary blood volume index (PBVi) reflect the hemodynamic status, but the relationship with left ventricle (LV) dysfunction remains unclear., Purpose: To evaluate the PTT and PBVi in RCM patients, the association with diastolic dysfunction and LV deformation, and the effects on the occurrence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in RCM patients., Study Type: Retrospective., Population: 137 RCM patients (88 men, age 58.80 ± 10.83 years) and 68 age- and sex-matched controls (46 men, age 57.00 ± 8.59 years)., Field Strength/sequence: 3.0T/Balanced steady-state free precession sequence, recovery prepared echo-planar imaging sequence, and phase-sensitive inversion recovery sequence., Assessment: The LV function and peak strain (PS) parameters were measured. In Kaplan-Meier analysis, higher PTTc and PBVi were significantly associated with MACE. Objectives: To explore the possibility of automatic diagnosis of congenital heart disease (CHD) and pulmonary arterial hypertension associated with CHD (PAH-CHD) from chest radiographs using artificial intelligence (AI) technology and to evaluate whether AI assistance could improve clinical diagnostic accuracy., Materials and Methods: A total of 3255 frontal preoperative chest radiographs (1174 CHD of any type and 2081 non-CHD) were retrospectively obtained. In this study, we adopted ResNet18 pretrained with the ImageNet database to establish diagnostic models. Radiologists diagnosed CHD/PAH-CHD from 330/165 chest radiographs twice: the first time, 50% of the images were accompanied by AI-based classification; after a month, the remaining 50% were accompanied by AI-based classification. Diagnostic results were compared between the radiologists and AI models, and between radiologists with and without AI assistance., Results: The AI model achieved an average area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.948 (sensitivity: 0.970, specificity: 0.982) for CHD diagnoses and an AUC of 0.778 (sensitivity: 0.632, specificity: 0.925) for identifying PAH-CHD. In the 330 balanced (165 CHD and 165 non-CHD) testing set, AI achieved higher AUCs than all 5 radiologists in the identification of CHD (0.670-0.858) and PAH-CHD (0.610-0.688). With AI assistance, the mean ± standard error AUC of radiologists was significantly improved for CHD (ΔAUC + 0.096, 95 % CI: 0.001-0.190; P = 0.048) and PAH-CHD (ΔAUC + 0.066, 95 % CI: 0.010-0.122; P = 0.031) diagnosis., Conclusion: Chest radiograph-based AI models can detect CHD and PAH-CHD automatically. Background: Sarcopenia is frequently found in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and is associated with reduced exercise capacity, poor quality of life and adverse outcomes. Recent evidence suggests that axial thoracic skeletal muscle size could be used as a surrogate to assess sarcopenia in HFrEF. Since diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the most common comorbidities with HFrEF, we aimed to explore the potential association of axial thoracic skeletal muscle size with left ventricular (LV) remodeling and determine its prognostic significance in this condition., Methods: A total of 243 diabetes patients with HFrEF were included in this study. Bilateral axial thoracic skeletal muscle size was obtained using cardiac MRI. Patients were stratified by the tertiles of axial thoracic skeletal muscle index (SMI). LV structural and functional indices, as well as amino-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), were measured. The determinants of elevated NT-proBNP were assessed using linear regression analysis. The associations between thoracic SMI and clinical outcomes were assessed using a multivariable Cox proportional hazards model., Results: Patients in the lowest tertile of thoracic SMI displayed a deterioration in LV systolic strain in three components, together with an increase in LV mass and a heavier burden of myocardial fibrosis (all P < 0.05). Moreover, thoracic SMI (β = -0.25; P < 0.001), rather than body mass index (β = -0.04; P = 0.55), was independently associated with the level of NT-proBNP. The median follow-up duration was 33.6 months (IQR, 20.4-52.8 months). Patients with adverse outcomes showed a lower thoracic SMI (40.1 [34.3, 47.9] cm 2 /m 2 vs. 45.3 [37.3, 55.0] cm 2 /m 2 ; P < 0.05) but a similar BMI (P = 0.76) compared with those without adverse outcomes. A higher thoracic SMI indicated a lower risk of adverse outcomes (hazard ratio: 0.96; 95% confidence interval: 0.92-0.99; P = 0.01)., Conclusions: With respect to diabetes patients with HFrEF, thoracic SMI is a novel alternative for evaluating muscle wasting in sarcopenia that can be obtained by a readily available routine cardiac MRI protocol. Background: Microvascular pathology is one of the main characteristics of diabetic cardiomyopathy; however, the early longitudinal course of diabetic microvascular dysfunction remains uncertain. This study aimed to investigate the early dynamic changes in left ventricular (LV) microvascular function in diabetic pig model using the cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR)-derived quantitative perfusion technique., Methods: Twelve pigs with streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus (DM) were included in this study, and longitudinal CMR scanning was performed before and 2, 6, 10, and 16 months after diabetic modeling. CMR-derived semiquantitative parameters (upslope, maximal signal intensity, perfusion index, and myocardial perfusion reserve index [MPRI]) and fully quantitative perfusion parameters (myocardial blood flow [MBF] and myocardial perfusion reserve [MPR]) were analyzed to evaluate longitudinal changes in LV myocardial microvascular function. Pearson correlation was used to analyze the relationship between LV structure and function and myocardial perfusion function., Results: With the progression of DM duration, the upslope at rest showed a gradually increasing trend (P = 0.029); however, the upslope at stress and MBF did not change significantly (P > 0.05). Regarding perfusion reserve function, both MPRI and MPR showed a decreasing trend with the progression of disease duration (MPRI, P = 0.001; MPR, P = 0.042), with high consistency (r = 0.551, P < 0.001). Furthermore, LV MPR is moderately associated with LV longitudinal strain (r = - 0.353, P = 0.022), LV remodeling index (r = - 0.312, P = 0.033), fasting blood glucose (r = - 0.313, P = 0.043), and HbA1c (r = - 0.309, P = 0.046). Microscopically, pathological results showed that collagen volume fraction increased gradually, whereas no significant decrease in microvascular density was observed with the progression of DM duration., Conclusions: Myocardial microvascular reserve function decreased gradually in the early stage of DM, which is related to both structural (but not reduced microvascular density) and functional abnormalities of microvessels, and is associated with increased blood glucose, reduced LV deformation, and myocardial remodeling., (© 2024. The global prevalence of type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has caused harm to human health and economies. Cardiovascular disease is one main cause of T2DM mortality. Increased prevalence of diabetes and associated heart failure (HF) is common in older populations, so accurately evaluating heart-related injury and T2DM risk factors and conducting early intervention are important. Quantitative cardiovascular system imaging assessments, including functional imaging during cardiovascular disease treatment, are also important. The left-ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) has been traditionally used to monitor cardiac function; it is often preserved or increased in early T2DM, but subclinical heart deformation and dysfunction can occur. Myocardial strains are sensitive to global and regional heart dysfunction in subclinical T2DM. Cardiac magnetic resonance feature-tracking technology (CMR-FT) can visualize and quantify strain and identify subclinical myocardial injury for early management, especially with preserved LVEF. Meanwhile, CMR-FT can be used to evaluate the multiple cardiac chambers involvement mediated by T2DM and the coexistence of complications. Background: Due to the heterogeneity of anatomic anomalies in Ebstein's anomaly (EA), particularly in the subset of patients with atrial septal defect (ASD), hemodynamic changes, which ultimately cause left ventricular (LV) deterioration remain unclear. The current study aimed to investigate the effect of concomitant ASD on LV function using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging in patients with EA., Methods: This study included 31 EA patients with ASD, 76 EA patients without ASD, 35 patients with simple ASD and 40 healthy controls. Left/right ventricular (RV, the RV was defined as a summation of the functional RV and atrialized RV in EA patients) volumes and functional parameters, LV strain parameters, and echocardiogram indices were compared among the four groups. Associations between variables were evaluated via Spearman or Pearson correlation analyses. The association between risk factors and LV ejection fraction (EF) was determined via multivariate linear regression analysis., Results: Both EA patients and ASD patients had a higher RV/LV end-diastolic volume (RVEDV/LVEDV) as well as lower LV and RV ejection fractions (LVEF/RVEF) compared to healthy controls (all p < 0.05). Moreover, the EA patients with ASD had a significantly higher RVEDV/LVEDV and a lower LVEF and RVEF than those without ASD (all p < 0.05). Multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that the presence of ASD was independently associated with LVEF (β = - 0.337, p < 0.001). The RVEDV/LVEDV index was associated with LVEF (r = - 0.361, p < 0.001). Furthermore, the LV longitudinal peak diastolic strain rate (PDSR) was lower in EA patients with ASD than those without ASD, patients with simple ASD, and healthy controls (p < 0.05)., Conclusion: Concomitant ASD is an important risk factor of LV dysfunction in patients with EA, and diastolic dysfunction is likely the predominate mechanism related to LV dysfunction., (© 2023. Objectives: Erythrophleum is a genus in the Fabaceae family. The genus contains only about 10 species, and it is best known for its hardwood and medical properties worldwide. Erythrophleum fordii Oliv. is the only species of this genus distributed in China. It has superior wood and can be used in folk medicine, which leads to its overexploitation in the wild. For its effective conservation and elucidation of the distinctive genetic traits of wood formation and medical components, we present its first genome assembly., Data Description: This work generated ~ 160.8 Gb raw Nanopore whole genome sequencing (WGS) long reads, ~ 126.0 Gb raw MGI WGS short reads and ~ 29.0 Gb raw RNA-seq reads using E. fordii leaf tissues. The de novo assembly contained 864,825,911 bp in the E. fordii genome, with 59 contigs and a contig N50 of 30,830,834 bp. Benchmarking Universal Single-Copy Orthologs (BUSCO) revealed 98.7% completeness of the assembly. The assembly contained 471,006,885 bp (54.4%) repetitive sequences and 28,761 genes that coded for 33,803 proteins. Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is the most common metabolic disease worldwide and a major risk factor for adverse cardiovascular events, while the additive effects of DM on left ventricular (LV) deformation in the restrictive cardiomyopathy (RCM) cohort remain unclear. Accordingly, we aimed to investigate the additive effects of DM on LV deformation in patients with RCM., Materials and Methods: One hundred thirty-six RCM patients without DM [RCM(DM-)], 46 with DM [RCM (DM+)], and 66 age- and sex-matched control subjects who underwent cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) scanning were included. LV function, late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) type, and LV global peak strains (including radial, circumferential, and longitudinal directions) were measured. The determinant of reduced LV global myocardial strain for all RCM patients was assessed using multivariable linear regression analyses. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was performed to illustrate the relationship between DM and decreased LV deformation., Results: Compared with the control group, RCM (DM-) and RCM(DM+) patients presented increased LV end-diastolic index and end-systolic volume index and decreased LV ejection fraction. LV GPS in all three directions and longitudinal PDSR progressively declined from the control group to the RCM(DM-) group to the RCM(DM+) group (all p < 0.05). DM was an independent determinant of impaired LV GPS in the radial, circumferential, and longitudinal directions and longitudinal PDSR (β =  - 0.217, 0.176, 0.253, and - 0.263, all p < 0.05) in RCM patients. The multiparameter combination, including DM, showed an AUC of 0.81(95% CI 0.75-0.87) to predict decreased LV GLPS and an AUC of 0.69 (95% CI 0.62-0.76) to predict decreased LV longitudinal PDSR., Conclusions: DM may have an additive deleterious effect on LV dysfunction in patients with RCM, especially diastolic dysfunction in RCM patients, indicating the importance of early identification and initiation of treatment of DM in patients with RCM., (© 2023. Rationale and Objectives: We aim to explore the value of chest CT radiomics in predicting the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-T790M resistance mutation of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients after the failure of first-line EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI)., Materials and Methods: A total of 211 and 135 advanced NSCLC patients with tumor tissue-based (Cohort-1) or circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA)-based (Cohort-2) EGFR-T790M testing were included, respectively. Cohort-1 was used for modeling and Cohort-2 was for models' validation. Radiomic features were extracted from tumor lesions on chest nonenhanced CT (NECT) and/or contrast-enhanced CT (CECT). We used eight feature selectors and eight classifier algorithms to establish radiomic models. Models were evaluated by area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA)., Results: CT morphological manifestations of peripheral location and pleural indentation sign were associated with EGFR-T790M. For NECT, CECT, and NECT+CECT radiomic features, the feature selector and classifier algorithms of LASSO and Stepwise logistic regression, Boruta and SVM, and LASSO and SVM were chosen to develop the optimal model, respectively (AUC: 0.844, 0.811, and 0.897). All models performed well in calibration curves and DCA. Purpose: The study was designed to assess the effect of co-occurrence of diabetes mellitus (DM) and hypertension on the deterioration of left atrioventricular coupling index (LACI) and left atrial (LA) function in comparison to individuals suffering from DM only., Methods: From December 2015 to June 2022, we consecutively recruited patients with clinically diagnosed DM who underwent cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) at our hospital. The study comprised a total of 176 patients with DM, who were divided into two groups based on their blood pressure status: 103 with hypertension (DM + HP) and 73 without hypertension (DM-HP). LA reservoir function (reservoir strain (ε s ), total LA ejection fraction (LAEF)), conduit function (conduit strain (ε e ), passive LAEF), booster-pump function (booster strain (ε a ) and active LAEF), LA volume index (LAVI), LV global longitudinal strain (LVGLS), and LACI were evaluated and compared between the two groups., Results: After adjusting for age, sex, body surface area (BSA), and history of current smoking, total LAEF (61.16 ± 14.04 vs. 56.05 ± 12.72, p = 0.013) and active LAEF (43.98 ± 14.33 vs. 38.72 ± 13.51, p = 0.017) were lower, while passive LAEF (33.22 ± 14.11 vs. 31.28 ± 15.01, p = 0.807) remained unchanged in the DM + HP group compared to the DM-HP group. The DM + HP group had decreased ε s (41.27 ± 18.89 vs. 33.41 ± 13.94, p = 0.006), ε e (23.69 ± 12.96 vs. 18.90 ± 9.90, p = 0.037), ε a (17.83 ± 8.09 vs. 14.93 ± 6.63, p = 0.019), and increased LACI (17.40±10.28 vs. 22.72±15.01, p = 0.049) when compared to the DM-HP group. In patients with DM, multivariate analysis revealed significant independent associations between LV GLS and εs (β=-1.286, p < 0.001), εe (β=-0.919, p < 0.001), and εa (β=-0.324, p = 0.036). However, there was no significant association observed between LV GLS and LACI (β=-0.003, p = 0.075). Additionally, hypertension was found to independently contribute to decreased εa (β=-2.508, p = 0.027) and increased LACI in individuals with DM (β = 0.05, p = 0.011)., Conclusions: In DM patients, LV GLS showed a significant association with LA phasic strain. Background: Mitral regurgitation may occur when hypertension causes left ventricular (LV) and left atrial (LA) remodeling. However, its role in LA function in hypertensive patients remains unclear., Purpose: To explore how mitral regurgitation affects LA function in hypertension and to investigate atrioventricular interaction in hypertensive patients with mitral regurgitation., Study Type: Retrospective., Population: A total of 193 hypertensive cases and 64 controls., Field Strength/sequence: A 3.0 T/balanced steady-state free precession., Assessment: LA volume (LAV), LA strain (reservoir, conduit, and active), LA ejection fraction, and LV strain (global peak longitudinal [GLS], circumferential [GCS], and radial strain [GRS]) were evaluated and compared among groups. Regurgitant fraction (RF) was evaluated in regurgitation patients and used to subdivide patients into mild (RF: 0%-30%), moderate (RF: 30%-50%), and severe (RF: >50%) regurgitation categories., Statistical Tests: One-way analysis of variance, Spearman and Pearson's correlation coefficients (r), and multivariable linear regression analysis. A P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: Hypertensive patients without mitral regurgitation showed significantly impaired LA reservoir and conduit functions and significantly decreased LV GLS but preserved pump function and LAV compared to controls (P = 0.193-1.0). Hypertensive cases with mild regurgitation (N = 22) had significantly enlarged LAV and further reduced LA reservoir function, while the group with moderate regurgitation (N = 20) showed significantly reduced LA pump function, further impaired conduit function, and significantly reduced LV strain. The severe regurgitation (N = 13) group demonstrated significantly more severely impaired LA and LV functions and LAV enlargement. Multivariable linear regression showed that regurgitation degree, GRS, GCS, and GLS were independently correlated with the LA reservoir, conduit, and active strain in hypertensive patients with mitral regurgitation., Data Conclusion: Mitral regurgitation may exacerbate LA and LV impairment in hypertension. Background: Although there are many studies on the prognostic factors of left ventricular myocardial noncompaction (LVNC), the determinants are varied and not entirely consistent. This study aimed to build predictive models using radiomics features and machine learning to predict major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in patients with LVNC., Methods: In total, 96 patients with LVNC were included and randomly divided into training and test cohorts. A total of 105 cine cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR)-derived radiomics features and 35 clinical characteristics were extracted. Five different oversampling algorithms were compared for selection of the optimal imbalanced processing. Feature importance was assessed with extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost). We compared the performance of 5 machine learning classification methods with different sample:feature ratios to determine the optimal hybrid classification strategy. Subsequently, radiomics, clinical, and combined radiomics-clinical models were developed and compared., Results: The machine learning pipeline included an adaptive synthetic (ADASYN) algorithm for imbalanced processing, XGBoost feature selection with a sample:feature ratio of 10, and support vector machine (SVM) modeling. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs) of the radiomics model, clinical model, and combined model in the validation cohort were 0.87 (sensitivity 83.33%, specificity 64.29%), 0.65 (sensitivity 16.67%, specificity 78.57%), and 0.92 (specificity 33.33%, sensitivity 100.00%), respectively. The radiomics model performed similarly to the clinical and combined models (P=0.124 and P=0.621, respectively). The performance of the combined model was significantly better than that of the clinical model (P=0.003)., Conclusions: The machine learning-based cine CMR radiomics model performed well at predicting MACEs in patients with LVNC. Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) was recently recognized as an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases., Purpose: To examine the effect of MAFLD on cardiac function in metabolic syndrome by MRI., Study Type: Retrospective., Population: One hundred seventy-nine patients with metabolic syndrome (MetS), 101 with MAFLD (MAFLD [+]) and 78 without (MAFLD [-]). Eighty-one adults without any of the components of MetS or cardiac abnormalities were included as control group., Field Strength/sequence: 3.0 T; balanced steady-state free precession sequence., Assessment: Left atrial (LA) strain was assessed during three phases: reservoir strain (LA-RS), conduit strain (LA-CS), and booster strain (LA-BS). Left ventricular (LV) global longitudinal (LV-GLS) strain was also derived. The left atrioventricular coupling index (LACI) was calculated as the ratio of LA end-diastolic volume (LA-EDV) and LV-EDV., Statistical Tests: Student's t test or Mann-Whitney U test; One-way analysis of variance. A P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: Among MetS patients, individuals with MAFLD had significantly lower magnitude LV-GLS (-11.6% ± 3.3% vs. -13.8% ± 2.7%) than those without MAFLD. For LA strains, LA-RS (36.9% ± 13.7% vs. 42.9% ± 13.5%) and LA-CS (20.0% ± 10.6% vs. 24.1% ± 9.2%) were also significantly reduced in MAFLD (+) compared to MAFLD (-). The LACIs (17.2% [12.9-21.2] % vs. 15.8% [12.2-19.7] %) were significantly higher in patients with MAFLD compared to those without MAFLD. After adjustment for other clinical factors, MAFLD was found to be independently correlated with LV-GLS (β = -0.270) and LACI (β = 0.260)., Data Conclusion: MAFLD had an unfavorable effect on LV myocardial strain in MetS. Background: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) has been shown to be independently associated with cardiovascular events and mortality. This study aimed to evaluate changes in left ventricular (LV) microvascular perfusion and myocardial deformation in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with and without DPN, as well as to investigate the association between myocardial perfusion and LV deformation., Methods: Between October 2015 and July 2022, one hundred and twenty-three T2DM patients without DPN, fifty-four patients with DPN and sixty age‑ and sex‑matched controls who underwent cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging were retrospectively analyzed. LV myocardial perfusion parameters at rest, including upslope, time to maximum signal intensity (TTM), max signal intensity (max SI), and myocardial strains, including global radial, circumferential and longitudinal strain (GRS, GCS and GLS, respectively), were calculated and compared among the groups with One‑way analysis of variance. Univariable and multivariable linear regression analyses were performed to explore the independent factors influencing LV myocardial perfusion indices and LV strains in diabetes., Results: The LV GLS, upslope and max SI were significantly deteriorated from controls, through patients without DPN, to patients with DPN (all P < 0.001). Compared with controls, TTM was increased and LV GRS and GCS were decreased in both patient groups (all P < 0.05). Multivariable regression analyses considering covariates showed that DPN was independently associated with reduced upslope, max SI and LV GLS (β = - 0.360, - 2.503 and 1.113, p = 0.021, 0.031 and 0.010, respectively). When the perfusion indices upslope and max SI were included in the multivariable analysis for LV deformation, DPN and upslope (β = 1.057 and - 0.870, p = 0.020 and 0.018, respectively) were significantly associated with LV GLS., Conclusion: In patients with T2DM, there was more severe LV microvascular and myocardial dysfunction in patients with complicated DPN, and deteriorated subclinical LV systolic dysfunction was associated with impaired myocardial circulation., (© 2023. Purpose: Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-associated myocarditis is a rare but severe complication for patients treated with immunotherapy. This study aims to explore the predictive significance of patients' clinical features and examination results for the severity of ICI-associated myocarditis., Methods: Data from a real-world cohort of 81 cancer patients who developed ICI-associated myocarditis after immunotherapy were retrospectively analyzed. The development of myocarditis of Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) grades 3-5 and/or the major adverse cardiovascular event (MACE) was set as endpoints. Logistic regression was used to evaluate the predictive value of each factor., Results: CTCAE grades 3-5 and MACE developed in 43/81 (53.1%) and 28/81 (34.6%) cases, respectively. The likelihood of CTCAE grades 3-5 and MACE increased with the accumulation of organs affected by the ICI-associated adverse events and initial clinical symptoms. Concurrent systematic therapies during ICI treatment did not raise the risk of myocarditis severity, while prior chemotherapy did. Besides classical serum cardiac markers, a higher neutrophil ratio was also related to poorer cardiac outcomes, whereas higher lymphocyte and monocyte ratios were predictors of favorable cardiac outcomes. The CD4+ T cell ratio and CD4/CD8 ratio were negatively related to CTCAE grades 3-5. Several cardiovascular magnetic resonance parameters were associated with myocarditis severity, whereas the predictive value of echocardiography and electrocardiogram was weak., Conclusion: This study comprehensively evaluated the prognostic value of patients' clinical characteristics and examination results and identified several predictors of severe ICI-associated myocarditis, which will facilitate early detection of severe ICI-associated myocarditis in patients receiving immunotherapy., (© 2023. Background: Insulin is commonly used in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) to achieve glycemic control. However, recent evidence showed that insulin use is associated with poor outcomes in the context of heart failure (HF). Since heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) accounts for approximately 50% of cases in the general HF population, we aimed to evaluate the effect of insulin treatment on left ventricular (LV) remodeling and contractility abnormalities in a HFrEF cohort and assess whether insulin was a predictor of adverse outcomes in this entity., Methods: A total of 377 HFrEF patients who underwent cardiac MRI were included and divided according to diabetes status and the need for insulin treatment. LV structural and functional indices, as well as systolic strains, were measured. The determinants of impaired myocardial strains were assessed using linear regression analysis. The associated endpoints were determined using a multivariable Cox proportional hazards model., Results: T2DM patients on insulin displayed a higher indexed LV end-diastolic volume and LV mass than those with T2DM not on insulin or those without T2DM, despite similar LV ejection fractions, accompanied by a higher three-dimensional spherical index (P < 0.01). Worse longitudinal and circumferential peak systolic strain was shown to occur in T2DM patients on insulin (P < 0.01). Insulin treatment was independently associated with impaired magnitudes of systolic strain. The median follow-up duration was 32.4 months (IQR, 15.6-43.2 months). Insulin treatment remained consistently associated with poor outcomes after adjustment for established confounders, with an adjusted hazard ratio of 3.11; (95% CI, 1.45-6.87; P = 0.009) in the overall cohort and 2.16 (95% CI, 1.08-4.59; P = 0.030) in the diabetes cohort., Conclusions: Insulin may further lead to adverse LV remodeling and contractile dysfunction in the context of HFrEF with T2DM. The homing and engraftment of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) into bone marrow is the first critical step for successful clinical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). SDF-1 / CXCR4 is considered to be a very promising target to promote HSC homing. In recent years, with the in-depth research on the HSC homing, a variety of new strategies for promoting HSC homing and engraftment have been explored, such as nuclear hormone receptor, histone deacetylase inhibitor, prostaglandin and metabolic regulation, so as to increase the success rate of HSCT and improve the survival of patients. In this review, the recent research advances in the mechanism of HSC homing and strategies to promote HSC homing and engraftment were summarized and discussed.

Objective: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and anemia are related to some cardiovascular diseases and can predict poor outcomes. Both of them can damage the heart in their own ways, but their combined effects have not been well explored. This study aimed to explore the combined effects of T2DM and anemia and the interaction between left atrial (LA) and left ventricular (LV) function by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR)., Materials and Methods: A total of 177 T2DM patients without anemia, 68 T2DM patients with anemia and 73 sex-matched controls were retrospectively enrolled in this study from June 2015 to September 2022. Their LA phasic function and LV function parameters were compared to explore the combined effects of T2DM and anemia and the interaction between LA and LV function. Univariate and multivariate linear regression were done to explore the independent factors influencing LA phasic function and LV function., Results: Compared with controls and T2DM patients without anemia, T2DM patients with anemia were older and had higher heart rate, higher creatinine, lower estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and lower hemoglobin (Hb) (all p < 0.05). LV global longitudinal peak strain (GLPS) significantly declined from T2DM patients with anemia to T2DM patients without anemia to controls (p < 0.001). LA volumetric function and strain were significantly impaired in T2DM patients with anemia compared with the other groups (all p < 0.05). In addition to age, eGFR, Hb and HbA1c, the LV GLPS was independently associated with all LA phasic strains (LA reservoir strain, β =0.465; LA conduit strain, β = 0.450; LA pump strain, β = 0.360, all p < 0.05). LA global conduit strain, total LA ejection fraction (LAEF) and active LAEF were independently associated with LV GLPS and LVEF., Conclusion: Both LA and LV function were severely impaired in T2DM patients with anemia, and T2DM and anemia were independently associated with LA phasic function. Deleterious interaction between LA function and LV function would happen in T2DM patients with or without anemia. Background: Hypertension (HTN) is highly prevalent in non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM) patients, but little is known about its impact on left ventricular (LV) function and remodeling., Purpose: To evaluate the effect of hypertension on LV function and remodeling in NIDCM patients., Study Type: Retrospective., Population: Two-hundred and twelve NIDCM (HTN-) patients, 91 NIDCM (HTN+) patients, and 74 normal controls., Field Strength/sequence: 3.0 T/bSSFP and phase-sensitive inversion recovery sequence., Assessment: The LV geometry, myocardial strain, remodeling index (calculated as LVM/LVEDV), and LGE were measured and compared between groups. Determinants of LV strain and remodeling in NIDCM were investigated., Statistical Tests: Student's t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, one-way analysis of variance, Kruskal-Wallis test, univariable and multivariable linear regression. A P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: Compared with normal controls, NIDCM patients had significantly higher LVEDV and significantly impaired LV strains, including LV global peak strain (PS) and peak systolic and diastolic strain rates in the radial, circumferential, and longitudinal directions. The NIDCM (HTN+) group had significantly decreased LV global longitudinal PS and peak diastolic strain rate (PDSR), and significantly increased LV mass index and remodeling index compared to the NIDCM (HTN-) group, despite there being no significant difference in ejection fraction (P = 0.241). The prevalence of LV LGE was significantly higher in the NIDCM (HTN+) group than in the NIDCM (HTN-) group. In multivariable regression models adjusted for potential confounders, hypertension was independently associated with LV global longitudinal PS and PDSR. Male sex, resting heart rate, and log(NT-proBNP) level were independent determinants of LV strains. Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) frequently coexists with obstructive coronary artery disease (OCAD), which are at increased risk for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to investigate the impact of coronary obstruction on myocardial microcirculation function in T2DM patients, and explore independent predictors of reduced coronary microvascular perfusion., Methods: Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) scanning was performed on 297 T2DM patients {188 patients without OCAD [T2DM(OCAD -)] and 109 with [T2DM(OCAD +)]} and 89 control subjects. CMR-derived perfusion parameters, including upslope, max signal intensity (MaxSI), and time to maximum signal intensity (TTM) in global and segmental (basal, mid-ventricular, and apical slices) were measured and compared among observed groups. According to the median of Gensini score (64), T2DM(OCAD +) patients were subdivided into two groups. Univariable and multivariable linear regression analyses were performed to identify independent predictors of microcirculation dysfunction., Results: T2DM(OCAD -) patients, when compared to control subjects, had reduced upslope and prolonged TTM in global and all of three slices (all P < 0.05). T2DM(OCAD +) patients showed a significantly more severe impairment of microvascular perfusion than T2DM(OCAD -) patients and control subjects with a more marked decline upslope and prolongation TTM in global and three slices (all P < 0.05). From control subjects, through T2DM(OCAD +) patients with Gensini score ≤ 64, to those patients with Gensini score > 64 group, the upslope declined and TTM prolonged progressively in global and mid-ventricular slice (all P < 0.05). The presence of OCAD was independently correlated with reduced global upslope (β =  - 0.104, P < 0.05) and global TTM (β = 0.105, P < 0.05) in patients with T2DM. Among T2DM(OCAD +) patients, Gensini score was associated with prolonged global TTM (r = 0.34, P < 0.001)., Conclusions: Coronary artery obstruction in the context of T2DM exacerbated myocardial microcirculation damage. Background: The resistance of traditional chemical fungicides to plant pathogenic fungi and the threats to the safety of humans and the environment highlight an urgent need to find safe and efficient alternatives to chemical fungicides. Owing to the wide spectrum of antifungal activities, low persistence and nontoxicity to mammals and aquatic life, essential oils have considerable potential as low-risk pesticides. In this study, the essential oil and the main components of Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels (Danggui) were extracted, analyzed by GC-MS, and evaluated for their antifungal activities against six plant pathogenic fungi., Results: 3-butylidenephthalide (3-BPH) showed the best antifungal activity against Fusarium graminearum with an EC 50 value of 14.35 μg mL -1 . The antifungal mechanistic studies revealed that 3-BPH induced the generation of endogenous ROS to cause lipid peroxidation of the cell membrane and inhibited the biosynthesis of ergosterol, thereby causing the cell membrane damaged to exert its fungicidal activity. Background: Metabolic and hemodynamic alterations in metabolic syndrome (MetS) can cause a reduced myocardial energetic efficiency (MEE). Indexed MEE (MEEi), as a simple estimate of MEE, is emerging as a novel and useful imaging parameter., Purpose: To investigate the impact of MetS on MEE and systolic myocardial strain and to assess any sex difference., Study Type: Retrospective., Population: A total of 161 patients with MetS (female: n = 82, 52.2 ± 11.7 years; male: n = 79, 51.8 ± 10.6 years) and 77 healthy subjects (female: n = 46, 52.7 ± 8.2 years; male: n = 31, 54.1 ± 11.2 years). Patients with left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction <50% were excluded., Field Strength/sequence: A 3.0 T; balanced steady-state free precession sequence., Assessment: LV volumes and mass (LVM) and global longitudinal strain (GLS) were obtained by MRI. Stroke volume (SV) divided by HR was used as a surrogate measure of MEE and normalized to LVM (MEEi)., Statistical Tests: Student's t-test or Mann-Whitney U-test; Multivariable linear regression (coefficient of determination, R 2 ). P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: For both males and females, MEEi and GLS were lower in MetS patients than in the normal controls. Among MetS patients, men had significantly higher LVM (59.7 ± 13.4 g/m 2 vs. 48.8 ± 11.3 g/m 2 ) and significantly lower MEEi (0.68 ± 0.23 mL/g/s vs. 0.84 ± 0.23 mL/g/s) and GLS (-11.7% ± 2.8% vs. -13.9% ± 2.7%) than women. After adjustment for clinical variables, male gender (β = -0.291) was found to be inversely correlated with MEEi. Multivariable analysis showed that MEEi (β = 0.454) were independently associated with GLS (adjusted R 2  = 0.454) after adjustment for clinical and other MRI parameters., Data Conclusion: MEEi was significantly impaired in MetS without overt systolic dysfunction. There was a sex difference regarding the cardiac alterations in MetS, with men having significantly lower MEEi and GLS and significantly higher LVM than women. Cardiovascular diseases pose a significant health and economic burden worldwide, with coronary artery disease still recognized as a major problem. It is closely associated with hypertension, diabetes, obesity, smoking, lack of exercise, poor diet, and excessive alcohol consumption, which may lead to macro- and microvascular abnormalities in the heart. Coronary artery stenosis reduces the local supply of oxygen and nutrients to the myocardium and results in reduced levels of myocardial perfusion, which can lead to more severe conditions and irreversible damage to myocardial tissues. Therefore, accurate evaluation of myocardial perfusion abnormalities in patients with these risk factors is critical. As technology advances, magnetic resonance myocardial perfusion imaging has become more accurate at evaluating the myocardial microcirculation and has shown a powerful ability to detect myocardial ischemia. We aimed to investigate sex-related differences in left ventricular (LV) deformation in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) patients with comorbid hypertension (HTN) by cardiac MRI. A total of 281 patients with HFrEF who underwent cardiac MRI were enrolled in this study. Sex-related differences in LV structure, function and strains derived from cardiac cine MRI in the context of HTN were measured and compared. The clinical variables associated with LV strains in HFrEF patients with comorbid HTN and determinants of impaired LV strains were investigated for both sexes. The prevalence of HTN did not differ between the sexes (P > 0.05). Despite having a similar LVEF, hypertensive men displayed decreased LV deformation in all 3 directions compared with hypertensive women (all P < 0.05). Male sex and its interaction with HTN were associated with higher LV mass index, reduced LV GCPS and GLPS compared with hypertensive women (all P < 0.05). Male sex was associated with LV deformation impairment in hypertensive HFrEF patients (all P < 0.05). After adjustment for covariates in HFrEF patients, HTN was found to be an independent determinant of impaired LV GCPS [β = 0.17; P = 0.022] and GLPS [β = 0.25; P < 0.001]) in men but not in women (all P > 0.05). Sex had a modifying effect on LV deformation in hypertensive HFrEF patients, with greater adverse effects on LV strains in men than in women. Background: To investigate the difference of right ventricular (RV) structural and functional alteration in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and the ventricular interdependence in these patients, using cardiac MR (CMR) feature tracking., Methods: From December 2016 to February 2022, 148 clinically diagnosed patients with DM who underwent cardiac MR (CMR) in our hospital were consecutively recruited. Fifty-four healthy individuals were included as normal controls. Biventricular strains, including left/right ventricular global longitudinal strain (LV-/RVGLS), left/right ventricular global circumferential strain (LV-/RVGCS), left/right ventricular global radial strain (LV-/RVGRS) were evaluated, and compared between patients with DM and healthy controls. Multiple linear regression and mediation analyses were used to evaluate DM's direct and indirect effects on RV strains., Results: No differences were found in age (56.98 ± 10.98 vs. 57.37 ± 8.41, p = 0.985), sex (53.4% vs. 48.1%, p = 0.715), and body surface area (BSA) (1.70 ± 0.21 vs. 1.69 ± 0.17, p = 0.472) between DM and normal controls. Patients with DM had decreased RVGLS (- 21.86 ± 4.14 vs. - 24.49 ± 4.47, p = 0.001), RVGCS (- 13.16 ± 3.86 vs. - 14.92 ± 3.08, p = 0.011), and no decrease was found in RVGRS (22.62 ± 8.11 vs. 23.15 ± 9.05, p = 0.743) in patients with DM compared with normal controls. The difference in RVGLS between normal controls and patients with DM was totally mediated by LVGLS (indirect effecting: 0.655, bootstrapped 95%CI 0.138-0.265). The difference in RVGCS between normal controls and DM was partly mediated by the LVGLS (indirect effecting: 0.336, bootstrapped 95%CI 0.002-0.820) and LVGCS (indirect effecting: 0.368, bootstrapped 95%CI 0.028-0.855)., Conclusions: In the patients with DM and preserved LVEF, the difference in RVGLS between DM and normal controls was totally mediated by LVGLS. Objective: To evaluate the association between IL-6 in prostatic tissue/blood sample and BPH-LUTS, so as to preliminarily discover an indicator of inflammation that could show the severity of LUTS., Patients and Methods: The prostatic tissues and blood samples were collected from 56 patients who underwent transurethral plasmakinetic resection of the prostate (TUPKRP). The association between IL-6 detected on prostatic tissues/blood sample and LUTS parameters, including international prostate symptom score (IPSS), peak flow rate (Q max ) and urodynamic parameters were analyzed with SPSS version 18.0, and p-value <0.05 was chosen as the criterion for statistical significance., Results: The TPSA and prostate volume (PV) were found to be higher in the inflammation group (p=0.021, 0.036). There was a positive association between prostate tissue inflammation and LUTS ([IPSS, storage symptoms score (SSS), voiding symptoms score (VSS), p<0.05], [Q max , p=0.025], [obstruction, p=0.027] and [AUR, p=0.018]). The level of serum IL-6 was significantly higher in inflammatory group (p=0.008). However, no differences were observed in different degrees of inflammation (p=0.393). The level of IL-6 in prostatic tissue significantly increased with the degree of inflammation (p<0.001), and the intensity of IL-6 expression was statistically correlative with the degree of inflammation (p<0.001). The IL-6 expression in prostatic tissue was statistically relevant with IPSS (p=0.018) and SSS (p=0.012)., Conclusion: IL-6 expression in prostatic tissue is associated with storage IPSS, suggesting chronic inflammation might contribute to storage LUTS., (Copyright © 2022 Asociación Española de Andrología, Medicina Sexual y Reproductiva. Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an immune-mediated acquired hemorrhagic autoimmune disease. At present, the first-line therapeutic drugs for ITP include glucocorticoids and intravenous immunoglobulins. However, about 1/3 of the patients had no response to the first-line treatment, or relapsed after dose reduction or withdrawal of glucocorticoids. In recent years, with the gradual deepening of the understanding on the pathogenesis of ITP, the drugs targeting different pathogenesis continually emerge, including immunomodulators, demethylating agents, spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) inhibitors and neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) antagonist. However, most of these drugs are in clinical trials. This review summarized briefly the recent advances in the treatment of glucocorticoids resistance and relapsed ITP, so as to provide reference for the clinical treatments.

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is considered a major risk factor for myocardial infarction (MI), and MI patients with DM have a poor prognosis. Accordingly, we aimed to investigate the additive effects of DM on LV deformation in patients after acute MI., Materials and Methods: One hundred thirteen MI patients without DM [MI (DM-)], 95 with DM [MI (DM+)] and 71 control subjects who underwent CMRscanning were included. LV function, infarct size and LV global peak strains in the radial, circumferential and longitudinal directions were measured. MI (DM+) patients were divided into two subgroups based on the HbA1c level (< 7.0% and ≥ 7.0%). The determinants of reduced LV global myocardial strain for all MI patients and MI (DM+) patients were assessed using multivariable linear regression analyses., Results: Compared with control subjects, both MI (DM-) and MI (DM+) patients presented higher LV end-diastolic and end-systolic volume index and lower LV ejection fraction. LV global peak strains progressively declined from the control group to the MI(DM-) group to the MI(DM+) group (all p < 0.05). Subgroup analysis showed that LV global radial PS and longitudinal PS were worse in MI(MD+) patients with poor glycemic control than in those with good glycemic control (all p < 0.05). DM was an independent determinant of impaired LV global peak strain in radial, circumferential and longitudinal directions in patients after acute MI (β = - 0.166, 0.164 and 0.262, both p < 0.05). The HbA1c level was independently associated with a decreased LV global radial PS (β =  - 0.209, p = 0.025) and longitudinal PS (β = 0.221, p = 0.010) in MI (DM+) patients., Conclusions: DM has an additive deleterious effect on LV function and deformation in patients after acute MI, and HbA1c was independently associated with impaired LV myocardial strain., (© 2023. Objectives: The relative incremental predictive value of myocardial deformation over ventricular volume for future adverse events in patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (rTOF) remains unknown. We aimed to determine the incremental prognostic value of myocardial deformation over ventricular volume to predict adverse events in patients with rToF., Methods: We retrospectively included patients with rTOF who completed cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and follow-up in our hospital from January 2014 to October 2020, and stratified according to the presence or absence of adverse events during follow-up. The strain parameters of the right ventricular (RV) and left ventricular (LV) were obtained from CMR-derived feature tracking. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard models and net reclassification improvement analysis were used to analyze the prognostic information of biventricular strain and volume parameters in rTOF patients., Results: Among 98 patients with rTOF, 54 (55.1%) experienced primary and/or secondary events during a median follow-up period of 27.0 months. Univariable analysis indicated that RV volume and strain were significantly associated with both primary events and all adverse events (all p < .01). Multivariable Cox regression and net reclassification improvement analyses achieved incremental global χ 2 (all p < .001), C index (all p < .001), and overall correct reclassification by sequentially adding CMR-derived RV volume, RV strain and LV strain parameters to preexisting clinical factors in adverse events model analyses., Conclusions: RV and LV myocardial deformation provided incremental prognostic information and significant improvement for risk stratification over RV size and clinical variables and therefore can be combined to further enhance prognostication., Key Points: • RV volume and strain were significantly associated with both primary events and all adverse events, whereas LV volume and strain were associated with primary events. • Ventricular myocardial deformation is a strong predictor of adverse outcomes of patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot, providing increased prognostic information and significantly improved risk stratification over ventricular size., (© 2022. Background: Obesity is highly prevalent in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and believed to influence its phenotype., Purpose: To explore the effects of obesity on left ventricular (LV) remodeling and long-term clinical course in Chinese patients with HCM., Study Type: Longitudinal., Population: A total of 247 patients with HCM classified according to body mass index (BMI) (normal weight: BMI = 18.0-22.9 kg/m 2 [N = 90]; overweight: BMI = 23.0-24.9 kg/m 2 [N = 58]; and obese: BMI ≥ 25 kg/m 2 [N = 99])., Field Strength/sequence: 3.0 T/Balanced steady-state free precession sequence and phase-sensitive inversion recovery late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) sequence., Assessment: LV function and geometry were measured. LV peak strain analysis was performed. The presence and percentage of LGE in the LV were recorded. The endpoints including heart failure, sudden cardiac death, and overall composite outcome were assessed during a median follow-up of 4.1 years (interquartile range, 3.0-6.2 years)., Statistical Tests: One-way analysis of variance, Kruskal-Wallis test, or chi-square test; Pearson correlation coefficient (r); multivariable linear regression analysis; Kaplan-Meier survival analysis; and Cox proportional hazards model analysis were conducted. A two-tailed P-value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: Obese patients exhibited a significant progressive increase in LV mass compared with normal-weight patients. The magnitude of all LV strain indices gradually and significantly decreased as BMI increased, whereas LV ejection fraction was not significantly different among BMI groups (P = 0.364). Multivariable linear regression analysis showed that obesity had a significant association with impaired strain indices as well as with indexed LV mass.
