Titanium and titanium alloys are widely favored materials for orthopedic implants due to their exceptional mechanical properties and biological inertness. The additional benefit of sustained local release of bioactive substances further promotes bone tissue formation, thereby augmenting the osseointegration capacity of titanium implants and attracting increasing attention in bone tissue engineering. Among these bioactive substances, growth factors have shown remarkable osteogenic and angiogenic induction capabilities. Consequently, researchers have developed various physical, chemical, and biological loading techniques to incorporate growth factors into titanium implants, ensuring controlled release kinetics. In contrast to conventional treatment modalities, the localized release of growth factors from functionalized titanium implants not only enhances osseointegration but also reduces the risk of complications. This review provides a comprehensive examination of the types and mechanisms of growth factors, along with a detailed exploration of the methodologies used to load growth factors onto the surface of titanium implants. Moreover, it highlights recent advancements in the application of growth factors to the surface of titanium implants (Scheme 1). Finally, the review discusses current limitations and future prospects for growth factor-functionalized titanium implants. Although tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy has markedly improved the survival of people with chronic-phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), 20-30% of people still experienced therapy failure. Data from 1,955 consecutive subjects with chronic-phase CML diagnosed by the European LeukemiaNet (ELN) recommendations from 1 center receiving initial TKI imatinib or a second-generation (2G-) TKI therapy were interrogated to develop a clinical prediction model for TKI therapy failure. This model was subsequently validated in 3,454 subjects from 76 other centers. Using the predictive clinical co-variates associated with TKI therapy failure, we developed a model that stratified subjects into low-, intermediate- and high-risk subgroups with significantly different cumulative incidences of therapy failure (p < 0.001). There was good discrimination and calibration in the external validation dataset, and the performance was consistent with that of the training dataset. Our model had the better prediction discrimination than the Sokal and ELTS scores did, with the greater time-dependent area under the receiver-operator characteristic curve (AUROC) values and a better ability to re-defined the risk of therapy failure. Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF) is a fatal disease in the interstitial lung associated with high mortality, morbidity, and poor prognosis. Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) is a fibroblast-activating protein that promotes fibrous diseases. Herein, an inhalable system was first developed using milk exosomes (M-Exos) encapsulating siRNA against TGF-β1 (MsiTGF-β1), and their therapeutic potential for bleomycin (BLM)-induced PF was investigated. M-siTGF-β1 was introduced into the lungs of mice with PF through nebulization. The collagen penetration effect and lysosomal escape ability were verified in vitro. Inhaled MsiTGF-β1 notably alleviated inflammatory infiltration, attenuated extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition, and increased the survival rate of PF mice by 4.7-fold. M-siTGF-β1 protected lung tissue from BLM toxicity by efficiently delivering specific siRNA to the lungs, leading to TGF-β1 mRNA silencing and epithelial mesenchymal transition pathway inhibition. Background: Immune therapy has become first-line treatment option for patients with lung cancer, but some patients respond poorly to immune therapy, especially among patients with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Novel tools are needed to screen potential responders to immune therapy in LUAD patients, to better predict the prognosis and guide clinical decision-making. Although many efforts have been made to predict the responsiveness of LUAD patients, the results were limited. During the era of immunotherapy, this study attempts to construct a novel prognostic model for LUAD by utilizing differentially expressed genes (DEGs) among patients with differential immune therapy responses., Methods: Transcriptome data of 598 patients with LUAD were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, which included 539 tumor samples and 59 normal control samples, with a mean follow-up time of 29.69 months (63.1% of patients remained alive by the end of follow-up). Other data sources including three datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database were analyzed, and the DEGs between immunotherapy responders and nonresponders were identified and screened. Univariate Cox regression analysis was applied with the TCGA cohort as the training set and GSE72094 cohort as the validation set, and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Cox regression were applied in the prognostic-related genes which fulfilled the filter criteria to establish a prognostic formula, which was then tested with time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Enriched pathways of the prognostic-related genes were analyzed with Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses, and tumor immune microenvironment (TIME), tumor mutational burden, and drug sensitivity tests were completed with appropriate packages in R (The R Foundation of Statistical Computing). Finally, a nomogram incorporating the prognostic formula was established., Results: A total of 1,636 DEGs were identified, 1,163 prognostic-related DEGs were extracted, and 34 DEGs were selected and incorporated into the immunotherapy responsiveness-related risk score (IRRS) formula. The IRRS formula had good performance in predicting the overall prognoses in patients with LUAD and had excellent performance in prognosis prediction in all LUAD subgroups. Moreover, the IRRS formula could predict anticancer drug sensitivity and immunotherapy responsiveness in patients with LUAD. Mechanistically, immune microenvironments varied profoundly between the two IRRS groups; the most significantly varied pathway between the high-IRRS and low-IRRS groups was ribonucleoprotein complex biogenesis, which correlated closely with the TP53 and TTN mutation burdens. In addition, we established a nomogram incorporating the IRRS, age, sex, clinical stage, T-stage, N-stage, and M-stage as predictors that could predict the prognoses of 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year survival in patients with LUAD, with an area under curve (AUC) of 0.718, 0.702, and 0.68, respectively., Conclusions: The model we established in the present study could predict the prognosis of LUAD patients, help to identify patients with good responses to anticancer drugs and immunotherapy, and serve as a valuable tool to guide clinical decision-making., Competing Interests: Conflicts of Interest: All authors have completed the ICMJE uniform disclosure form (available at https://tlcr.amegroups.com/article/view/10.21037/tlcr-24-309/coif). Objective: To explore the relationship among boredom proneness, the behavioral inhibition system, and anxiety among college students based on variable-centered and person-centered analytic approaches., Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted on 1,102 college students from a university in Hebei Province using the Boredom Proneness Questionnaire (BPQ) for College Students, the Behavioral Inhibition System Scale (BIS), and the General Anxiety Disorder-7 scale (GAD-7)., Results: The results reveal that boredom proneness was negatively correlated with scores on the behavioral inhibition system ( r  = -0.100, p  < 0.01), and positively correlated with anxiety ( r  = 0.457, p  < 0.001), while the behavioral inhibition system was positively correlated with anxiety ( r  = 0.086, p  < 0.01). In the variable-centered analyses study, it was found that the behavioral inhibition system partially mediated the association between boredom proneness and anxiety. In the person-centered analyses study, three subtypes were identified: the high boredom-low inhibition group (9.35%), the moderate boredom-inhibition group (66.70%), and the low boredom-high inhibition group (23.95%). Heart failure (HF) is a chronic condition that progressively worsens and continues to be a major financial burden and public health concern. The "gut-heart" axis provides an innovative perspective and therapeutic strategy for preventing and treating heart failure. Shenfu injection (SFI) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine-based treatment demonstrating potential as a therapeutic strategy for heart failure. However, the precise therapeutic mechanisms of SFI in heart failure are not completely characterized. In this study, HF models were established utilizing subcutaneous multipoint injection of isoproterenol (ISO) at a dosage of 5 mg kg -1 ·d -1 for 7 days. Serum levels of inflammatory biomarkers were quantified using protein microarrays. Rat feces were analyzed using untargeted metabolomics research and 16S rRNA sequencing. The link between gut microbiota and metabolites was examined using a MetOrigin and Spearman correlation analysis. Our results show that Shenfu injection effectively enhances cardiac function in rats with ISO-induced heart failure by potentially modulating pro-/anti-inflammatory imbalance and reducing serum and urine Trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO) levels. Moreover, SFI significantly increases the abundance of Bacteroidota at the phylum level, thereby improving disrupted gut microbiota composition. Additionally, SFI supplementation enriches specific genera known for their capacity to produce short-chain fatty acids. SFI was found to be associated with three key metabolic pathways, as revealed by fecal metabonomics analysis, including the pentose phosphate pathway, pyrimidine metabolism, and purine metabolism. Metabolite tracing analysis revealed that Taurine and hypotaurine metabolism was found to be specific to the microbial community. The biosynthesis of Pyrimidine metabolism, Purine metabolism, beta-alanine metabolism, Naphthalene degradation, Pantothenate, and CoA biosynthesis were identified as co-metabolic pathways between microbes and host. The Spearman correlation analysis was also significantly correlated to differentially expressed metabolites regulated by SFI and the gut microbiota. Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a metabolic disorder characterized by abnormal lipid accumulation in the cytoplasm. Lipid metabolism-related genes may have important clinical significance for prognosis prediction and individualized treatment., Methods: We collected bulk and single-cell transcriptomic data of ccRCC and normal samples to identify key lipid metabolism-related prognostic signatures. qPCR was used to confirm the expression of signatures in cancer cell lines. Based on the identified signatures, we developed a lipid metabolism risk score (LMRS) as a risk index. We explored the potential application value of prognostic signatures and LMRS in precise treatment from multiple perspectives., Results: Through comprehensive analysis, we identified five lipid metabolism-related prognostic signatures (ACADM, ACAT1, ECHS1, HPGD, DGKZ). We developed a risk index LMRS, which was significantly associated with poor prognosis in patients. There was a significant correlation between LMRS and the infiltration levels of multiple immune cells. Patients with high LMRS may be more likely to respond to immunotherapy. Background: There are limited data comprehensively comparing therapy responses and outcomes among nilotinib, dasatinib, flumatinib and imatinib for newly diagnosed chronic-phase chronic myeloid leukemia in a real-world setting., Patients and Methods: Data from patients with chronic-phase CML receiving initial a second-generation tyrosine-kinase inhibitor (2G-TKI, nilotinib, dasatinib or flumatinib) or imatinib therapy from 77 Chinese centers were retrospectively interrogated. Propensity-score matching (PSM) analyses were performed to to compare therapy responses and outcomes among these 4 TKIs., Results: 2,496 patients receiving initial nilotinib (n = 512), dasatinib (n = 134), flumatinib (n = 411) or imatinib (n = 1,439) therapy were retrospectively interrogated in this study. PSM analyses indicated that patients receiving initial nilotinib, dasatinib or flumatinib therapy had comparable cytogenetic and molecular responses (p = .28-.91) and survival outcomes including failure-free survival (FFS, p = .28-.43), progression-free survival (PFS, p = .19-.93) and overall survival (OS) (p values = .76-.78) but had significantly higher cumulative incidences of cytogenetic and molecular responses (all p values < .001) and higher probabilities of FFS (p < .001-.01) than those receiving imatinib therapy, despite comparable PFS (p = .18-.89) and OS (p = .23-.30)., Conclusion: Nilotinib, dasatinib and flumatinib had comparable efficacy, and significantly higher therapy responses and higher FFS rates than imatinib in newly diagnosed CML patients. However, there were no significant differences in PFS and OS among these 4 TKIs. The microvascular network plays an important role in providing nutrients to the injured tissue and exchanging various metabolites. However, how to achieve efficient penetration of the injured tissue is an important bottleneck restricting the reconstruction of microvascular network. Herein, the hydrogel precursor solution can efficiently penetrate the damaged tissue area, and ultrasound triggers the release of thrombin from liposomes in the solution to hydrolyze fibrinogen, forming a fibrin solid hydrogel network in situ with calcium ions and transglutaminase as catalysts, effectively solving the penetration impedance bottleneck of damaged tissues and ultimately significantly promoting the formation of microvascular networks within tissues. First, the fibrinogen complex solution is effectively permeated into the injured tissue. Second, ultrasound triggered the release of calcium ions and thrombin, activates transglutaminase, and hydrolyzes fibrinogen. Third, fibrin monomers are catalyzed to form fibrin hydrogels in situ in the damaged tissue area. In vitro studies have shown that the fibrinogen complex solution effectively penetrated the artificial bone tissue within 15 s after ultrasonic triggering, and formed a hydrogel after continuous triggering for 30 s. Overall, this innovative strategy effectively solved the problem of penetration resistance of ultrasound-triggered hydrogels in the injured tissues, and finally activates in situ microvascular networks regeneration., (© 2024 The Authors. Organic pollutants polymerization in advanced oxidation processes or environmental matrices has attracted increasing attention, but little is known about stabilization of the polymerization products. The results in this work revealed the contribution of Fe(Ⅱ) oxygenation to stabilization of the products from norfloxacin (NOR) humification. It was found that upon oxygenation of Fe(Ⅱ) complexed by catechol (CT), NOR polymerized into the products with larger molecular weight through nucleophilic addition. Around 83.9-89.7 % organic carbon (OC) can be retained in the reaction solution and the precipitates at different Fe(II)/CT molar ratio. In this system with humification potential, the produced hydroxyl radical (HO•) dominantly modified, instead of decomposed, the structure of transformation products (TPs). TPs with diversified side chains were formed through hydroxylation and ring-opening, leading to the more humified products. In the subsequent Fe(Ⅱ) oxidative precipitation, Fe-TPs composites were formed as spherical particle clusters, which could steadily incorporate OC species with molecular fractionation. Specifically, lignin-like, tannins-like, condensed aromatic and high-molecular-weight TPs were preferentially preserved in the precipitates, while the recalcitrant aliphatic products mainly retained in the solution. Heterogeneous catalytic ozonation (HCO) holds promise in water purification but suffers from limited accessible metal sites, metal leaching, and unclear structure-activity relationships. This work reported M-NC (M=Co, Ni, Fe, and Mn) single-atom catalysts (SACs) with high atomic efficiency and minimal metal release. The new HCO systems, especially the Co-based system, exhibited impressive performance in various refractory contaminant removal, involving various reactive species generation, such as •OH ads , •OH free , *O, and 1 O 2 . For sulfamethoxazole removal, the normalized k obs for Co-NC, Ni-NC, Fe-NC, and Mn-NC were determined as 13.53, 3.94, 3.55, and 4.13 min -1 ·mM metal -1 ·g·m -2 correspondingly, attributed to the abundant acid sites, faster electron transfer, and lower energy required for O 3 decomposition and conversion. The metal atoms and hydroxyl groups, individually serving as Lewis and Bronsted acid sites (LAS and BAS), were the primary centers for •OH generation and O 3 adsorption. The relationships between active sites and both O 3 utilization and •OH generation were found. LAS and BAS were responsible for O 3 adsorption, while strong LAS facilitated O 3 conversion into •OH. Theoretical calculations revealed the catalytic mechanisms involved O 3 → *O→ *OO→ O 3 • - → •OH. STIP1 homology and U-box protein 1 (STUB1), a crucial member of the RING family E3 ubiquitin ligase, serves dual roles as an oncogene and a tumor suppressor in various human cancers. However, the role and mechanism of STUB1 in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) remain poorly defined. Here, we identified YTHDF1 as a novel STUB1 interaction partner using affinity purification mass spectrometry (AP-MS). Furthermore, we revealed that STUB1 promotes the ubiquitination and degradation of YTHDF1. Consequently, STUB1 depletion leads to YTHDF1 up-regulation in renal cancer cells. Functionally, STUB1 depletion promoted migration and invasion of ccRCC cells in a YTHDF1-dependent manner. Additionally, depletion of STUB1 also increased the tumorigenic potential of ccRCC in a xenograft model. Importantly, STUB1 expression is down-regulated in ccRCC tissues, and its low expression level correlates with advanced tumor stage and poor overall survival in ccRCC patients. Palladized iron (Pd/Fe) represents one of the most common modification strategies for nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI). Most studies prepared Pd/Fe by reducing iron salts and depositing Pd species on the surface of pre-synthesized nZVI, which can be called the two-step method. In this study, we proposed a one-step method to obtain Pd/Fe by the concurrent formation of Fe 0 and Pd 0 and investigated the effects of these two methods on 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) removal, with carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) coated as a surface modifier. Results indicated that the one-step method, not only streamlined the synthesis process, but also Pd/Fe-CMC one-step , synthesized by it, exhibited a higher 4-CP removal rate (97.9%) compared to the two-step method material Pd/Fe-CMC two-step (82.4%). Electrochemical analyses revealed that the enhanced activity of Pd/Fe-CMC one-step was attributed to its higher electron transfer efficiency and more available reactive species, active adsorbed hydrogen species (H ads *). Detection of intermediate products demonstrated that, under the influence of Pd/Fe-CMC one-step , the main route of 4-CP was through hydrodechlorination (HDC) to form phenol and H* was the main active specie, supported by EPR tests, quenching experiments and product analysis. Additionally, the effects of initial 4-CP concentration, initial pH, O 2 concentration, anions such as Cl - , SO 4 2- , HCO 3 - , and humic acid (HA) were also investigated. Progress in microwave (MW) energy application technology has stimulated remarkable advances in manufacturing and high-quality applications of ionic liquids (ILs) that are generally used as novel media in chemical engineering. This Review focuses on an emerging technology via the combination of MW energy and the usage of ILs, termed microwave-assisted ionic liquid (MAIL) technology. In comparison to conventional routes that rely on heat transfer through media, the contactless and unique MW heating exploits the electromagnetic wave-ions interactions to deliver energy to IL molecules, accelerating the process of material synthesis, catalytic reactions, and so on. In addition to the inherent advantages of ILs, including outstanding solubility, and well-tuned thermophysical properties, MAIL technology has exhibited great potential in process intensification to meet the requirement of efficient, economic chemical production. Here we start with an introduction to principles of MW heating, highlighting fundamental mechanisms of MW induced process intensification based on ILs. Next, the synergies of MW energy and ILs employed in materials synthesis, as well as their merits, are documented. The emerging applications of MAIL technologies are summarized in the next sections, involving tumor therapy, organic catalysis, separations, and bioconversions. Finally, the current challenges and future opportunities of this emerging technology are discussed.

Bound state in the continuum (BIC) is a phenomenon that describes the perfect confinement of electromagnetic waves despite their resonant frequencies lying in the continuous radiative spectrum. BICs can be realized by introducing a destructive interference between distinct modes, referred to as Friedrich-Wintgen BICs (FW-BICs). Herein, we demonstrate that FW-BICs can be derived from coupled modes of individual split-ring resonators (SRR) in the terahertz band. The eigenmode results manifest that FW-BICs are in the center of the far-field polarization vortices. Quasi-BIC-I keeps an ultrahigh quality factor (Q factor) in a broad momentum range along the Γ-X direction, while the Q factor of the quasi-BIC-II drops rapidly. Our results can facilitate the design of devices with high-Q factors with extreme robustness against the incident angle.

The effective management of osteomyelitis remains extremely challenging due to the difficulty associated with treating bone defects, the high probability of recurrence, the requirement of secondary surgery or multiple surgeries, and the difficulty in eradicating infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Hence, smart biodegradable biomaterials that provide effective and precise local anti-infection effects and can promote the repair of bone defects are actively being developed. Here, a novel nano-micro composite is fabricated by combining calcium phosphate (CaP) nanosheets with drug-loaded GelMA microspheres via microfluidic technology. The microspheres are covalently linked with vancomycin (Van) through an oligonucleotide (oligo) linker using an EDC/NHS carboxyl activator. Accordingly, a smart nano-micro composite called "CaP@MS-Oligo-Van" is synthesized. The porous CaP@MS-Oligo-Van composites can target and capture bacteria. They can also release Van in response to the presence of bacterial micrococcal nuclease and Ca 2+ , exerting additional antibacterial effects and inhibiting the inflammatory response. Finally, the released CaP nanosheets can promote bone tissue repair. Overall, the findings show that a rapid, targeted drug release system based on CaP@MS-Oligo-Van can effectively target bone tissue infections. Laser-based additive manufacturing has garnered significant attention in recent years as a promising 3D-printing method for fabricating metallic components. However, the surface roughness of additive manufactured components has been considered a challenge to achieving high performance. At present, the average surface roughness (Sa) of AM parts can reach high levels, greater than 50 μm, and a maximum distance between the high peaks and the low valleys of more than 300 μm, which requires post machining. Therefore, laser polishing is increasingly being utilized as a method of surface treatment for metal alloys, wherein the rapid remelting and resolidification during the process significantly alter both the surface quality and subsurface material properties. In this paper, the surface roughness, microstructures, microhardness, and wear resistance of the as-received, continuous wave laser polishing (CWLP), and pulsed laser polishing (PLP) processed samples were investigated systematically. The results revealed that the surface roughness (Sa) of the as-received sample was 6.29 μm, which was reduced to 0.94 μm and 0.84 μm by CWLP and PLP processing, respectively. It was also found that a hardened layer, about 200 μm, was produced on the Ti 6 Al 4 V alloy surface after laser polishing, which can improve the mechanical properties of the component. The microhardness of the laser-polished samples was increased to about 482 HV with an improvement of about 25.2% compared with the as-received Ti 6 Al 4 V alloy. Moreover, the coefficient of friction (COF) was slightly reduced by both CWLP and LPL processing, and the wear rate of the surface layer was improved to 0.790 mm 3 /(N∙m) and 0.714 mm 3 /(N∙m), respectively, under dry fraction conditions.

The homogeneous sodium percarbonate (SPC) systems are limited by narrow pH range, ineffective consumption of oxidant, and weak reusability of catalyst. Herein, molybdenum (Mo) powder and sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) were selected to overcome these challenges. Sulfamethoxazole (SMX), as a model contaminant, was almost completely degraded in 60 min with higher removal rate (0.1367 min -1 ) than the Mo or STPP-absent system. In addition, Mo/STPP-Fe(Ⅲ)/SPC system was cost-effective in terms of oxidant consumption, requiring only 0.2 mM SPC. About activation mechanism, the main active species for SMX degradation was pH-dependent, with hydroxyl radical (·OH) as the dominant active species at pH i = 7 and ·OH, carbonate radical (CO 3 · - ), and superoxide radical (O 2 · - ) derived from a series of chain reaction at pH i = 10, respectively. Due to the generation of various electrophilic free radical, the system exhibited excellent performance towards electron-rich pollutants under a wide pH range. Furthermore, Mo exhibited excellent stability and reusability. SMX was degraded through hydroxylation, N-S cleavage, amino and sulfanilamide oxidation into intermediates whose toxicities were evaluated by Toxicity Estimation Software Tool (T.E.S.T.) software. In this paper, two-dimensional Graphdiyne and Hexakis-[(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl]benzene nanosheets were prepared using the liquid-phase exfoliation method and were then successfully applied to 1.06 µm passively Q-Switched all-solid-state lasers. The Hexakis-[(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl]benzene was applied for the first time in passively Q-Switched all-solid-state lasers, as we know. For Graphdiyne, the Q-Switched pulse achieved a narrowest pulse width of 415 ns, a maximum repetition frequency of 244.2 kHz, a maximum pulse energy of 133.53 nJ, and peak power of 321.77 mW was obtained. While, the narrowest pulse width, maximum repetition frequency, maximum pulse energy, and peak power for Hexakis-[(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl]benzene are approximately 398.4 ns, 297.1 kHz, 89.61 nJ, and 220.39 mW respectively. The findings demonstrate the promising potential of both candidates as saturable absorbers for signal modulation in solid-state lasers.

Purpose: Mesenteric panniculitis (MP) represents the uncommon, benign and chronic inflammatory disorder affecting the mesenteric adipose tissues. Its etiology, diagnosis and treatment remain unnoticed. Our report focused on shedding more lights on this condition., Patients and Methods: Seventeen MP patients were identified by searching the electronic medical record system in the Zhengzhou Ninth People's Hospital using the search terms "Mesenteric panniculitis" from October 2015 to March 2023. All cases were diagnosed with MP through computed tomography (CT). Their clinical features and treatments were analyzed., Results: There were altogether 17 cases enrolled for this analysis. The male to female ratio was 8:9, and the median age at diagnosis was 64 (range: 37-96) years. There were 15 patients (88.2%) showing abdominal pain to varying degrees. The proportions of symptoms of nausea, vomiting and fever were 23.5%, 23.5% and 41.2%, respectively. Neoplastic disease was present in 3 patients (17.6%). Meanwhile, 9 patients (52.9%) had gallstones, 3 (17.6%) had cholecystitis and 1 (5.9%) had gallbladder polyps. Six patients (35.3%) received antibiotics treatment only and 1 (5.9%) received oral antibiotics and prednisone. One patient (5.9%) received antibiotics followed by prednisone treatment, because the symptoms were significantly relieved after antibiotic treatment, while the disease recurred soon after, and the symptoms improved again after prednisone treatment. The abdominal pain in 9 patients (52.9%) was relieved spontaneously. Two patients (11.8%) died, including one due to respiratory failure caused by pneumonia and the other one because of pancreatic cancer with lung and liver metastases., Conclusion: MP is a poorly understood chronic inflammatory disease. Patients often have abdominal pain as the main symptom, accompanied by comorbidities in the gallbladder, and the prognosis is usually good after correct diagnosis and treatment, Therefore, the present report aims to promote the awareness among clinicians of patients with non-classic abdominal symptoms, so as to avoid misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis., (© 2024. During ribosome biogenesis, the small subunit (SSU) processome is responsible for 40S assembly. The BMS1/RCL1 complex is a core component of the SSU processome that plays an important role in 18S rRNA processing and maturation. Genetic studies using zebrafish mutants indicate that both Bms1-like (Bms1l) and Rcl1 are essential for digestive organ development. In spite of vital functions of this complex, the mutual dependence of these two nucleolar proteins for the stability and function remains elusive. In this study, we identified an RCL1-interacting domain in BMS1, which is conserved in zebrafish and humans. Moreover, both the protein stability and nucleolar entry of RCL1 depend on its interaction with BMS1, otherwise RCL1 degraded through the ubiquitination-proteasome pathway. Functional studies revealed that overexpression of RCL1 in BMS1-knockdown cells can partially rescue the defects in 18S rRNA processing and cell proliferation, and hepatocyte-specific overexpression of Rcl1 can resume zebrafish liver development in the bms1l substitution mutant bms1lsq163/sq163but not in the knockout mutant bms1lzju1/zju1, which is attributed to the nucleolar entry of Rcl1 in the former mutant. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the association between white matter hyperintensity (WMH) burden and pial collaterals in acute strokes caused by intracranial large artery occlusion treated with mechanical thrombectomy in the anterior circulation, focusing on stroke subtypes., Methods: Consecutive patients undergoing mechanical thrombectomy between December 2019 and June 2022 were retrospectively screened. The Fazekas scale assessed WMH burden. Pial collaterals were categorized as either poor (0-2) or good (3-4) based on the Higashida score. A multivariable analysis was used to determine the relationship between WMH burden and pial collaterals. Subgroup analyses delved into associations stratified by stroke subtypes, namely cardioembolism (CE), tandem lesions (TLs), and intracranial atherosclerosis (ICAS)., Results: Of the 573 patients included, 274 (47.8%) demonstrated poor pial collaterals. Multivariable regression indicated a strong association between extensive WMH burden (Fazekas score of 3-6) and poor collaterals [adjusted OR 3.04, 95% CI 1.70-5.46, P < 0.001]. Additional independent predictors of poor collaterals encompassed ICAS-related occlusion (aOR 0.26, 95% CI 0.09-0.76, P = 0.014), female sex (aOR 0.63, 95% CI 0.41-0.96, P = 0.031), and baseline Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography scores (aOR 0.80, 95% CI 0.74-0.88, P < 0.001). Notably, an interaction between extensive WMH burden and stroke subtypes was observed in predicting poor collaterals (P = 0.001), being pronounced for CE (adjusted OR 2.30, 95% CI 1.21-4.37) and TLs (adjusted OR 5.09, 95% CI 2.32-11.16), but was absent in ICAS (adjusted OR 1.24, 95% CI 0.65-2.36)., Conclusions: Among patients treated with mechanical thrombectomy for anterior circulation large artery occlusion, extensive WMH burden correlates with poor pial collaterals in embolic occlusion cases (CE and TLs), but not in ICAS-related occlusion., (© 2023. Preventing the spread of SARS-CoV-2 and its variants is crucial in the fight against COVID-19. Inhibition of the main protease (M pro ) of SARS-CoV-2 is the key to disrupting viral replication, making M pro a promising target for therapy. PF-07321332 and shikonin have been identified as effective broad-spectrum inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 M pro . The crystal structures of SARS-CoV-2 M pro bound to PF-07321332 and shikonin have been resolved in previous studies. However, the exact mechanism regarding how SARS-CoV-2 M pro mutants impact their binding modes largely remains to be investigated. In this study, we expressed a SARS-CoV-2 M pro mutant, carrying the D48N substitution, representing a class of mutations located near the active sites of M pro . The crystal structures of M pro D48N in complex with PF-07321332 and shikonin were solved. A detailed analysis of the interactions between M pro D48N and two inhibitors provides key insights into the binding pattern and its structural determinants. Further, the binding patterns of the two inhibitors to M pro D48N mutant and wild-type M pro were compared in detail. This study illustrates the possible conformational changes when the M pro D48N mutant is bound to inhibitors. Structural insights derived from this study will inform the development of new drugs against novel coronaviruses.

Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains one of the major global public health concerns, and it develop into liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Recent evidence suggests that endosomal and autophagic vesicles are beneficial for HBV replication. However, it has not been well elucidated how HBV exploits such intracellular vesicle systems for its replication. RAB5A, a member of small GTPase family, plays crucial roles in early endosome biogenesis and autophagy initiation. We observed that RAB5A mRNA and protein levels were significantly increased in HBV-expressing hepatoma cell lines as well as in liver tissue samples from chronic HBV-infected patients. Moreover, RAB5A silencing inhibited HBV replication and subviral particle (SVP) expression significantly in HBV-transfected and -infected hepatoma cells, whereas RAB5A overexpression increased them. Mechanistically, RAB5A increases HBV replication through enhancement of early endosome (EE) - late endosome (LE) activation by interacting with EEA1, as well as enhancing autophagy induction by interacting with VPS34. Additionally, HBV infection enhances RAB5A-mediated dual activation of EE-LE system and autophagy. Collectively, our findings highlight that HBV utilizes RAB5A-mediated dual activation of endosomal and autophagic vesicle pathways for its own replication and persistence. Therefore, RAB5A is a potential target for chronic HBV infection treatment.

The oral absorption of exenatide, a type 2 diabetes medication, can be increased by employing lipid nanocapsules (LNC). To increase mucus permeability and exenatide intestinal absorption, reverse micelle lipid nanocapsules (RM-LNC) were prepared and their surface was modified with DSPE-PEG-FA. The RM-LNC with surface modification of DSPE-PEG-FA (FA-RM-LNC) were able to target enterocytes and reduce mucus aggregation in the intestine. Furthermore, in vitro absorption at different intestinal sites and flip-flop intestinal loop experiments revealed that LNCs with surface modification significantly increased their absorption efficiency in the small intestine. FA-RM-LNC delivers more drugs into Caco-2 cells via caveolin-, macrophagocytosis-, and lipid raft-mediated endocytosis. Additionally, the enhanced transport capacity of FA-RM-LNC was observed in a study of monolayer transport in Caco-2 cells. The oral administration of exenatide FA-RM-LNC resulted in a prolonged duration of hypoglycemia in diabetic mice and a relative bioavailability (BR) of up to 7.5% in rats. In conclusion, FA-RM-LNC can target enterocytes and has promising potential as a nanocarrier for the oral delivery of peptides.

Previous scientific research on reservoirs of the Deng IV Member in the Gaoshiti-Moxi area, the main production area of the Anyue gas field with reserves of tens of billions of cubic metres, has focused on karst palaeogeomorphology reconstruction, the facies distribution on platform margins, and their effects on creating favourable reservoirs. However, the quality of microbial carbonate reservoirs is also closely related to their original depositional environments on both inner and marginal platforms. Therefore, this paper attempts to reveal favourable microbial carbonate reservoir characteristics and the sedimentary effects on their distribution and prediction based predominantly on a synthetic analysis of the sequence stratigraphy and depositional facies. The results show that favourable reservoirs of the Deng IV Member are classified into three types according to their reservoir spaces: fracture-cavity, pore-cavity and pore reservoirs. Secondary dissolution pores and cavities are primary reservoir spaces developed mainly in nonskeletal grain dolomites with sparry cements, thrombolites, and stromatolites. The physical properties of the fracture-cavity and pore-cavity types of reservoirs are better than those of pore reservoirs and have porosities between 1 and 5% and permeabilities between 0.01 × 10 -3 and 1 × 10 -3 μm 2 . Vertically, favourable reservoirs are developed mainly in parasequence set 6 (PSS6) and PSS7 and are laterally distributed in well zone MX9-MX19-MX1 for the fracture-cavity type, MX105-MX110-GS20 for the pore-cavity type and MX17-MX107-MX41-MX102-GS102 for the pore type. Moreover, depositional effects on reservoirs in terms of depositional sequences, seismic facies, microfacies and microfacies associations indicate that to some extent, the fracture-cavity type of reservoir is constrained by the top boundaries of PSS7, PSS2, parasequence 17 (PS17) and PS14; the pore-cavity type of reservoir is constrained by the top boundaries of PSS7, PSS4, PS18 and PS12; and the pore type of reservoir is constrained by the top boundaries of PSS7, PSS6, PSS3, PSS2, PS18, PS17, PS14, and PS12. Seismic facies associated with shoals and mound-flat complexes are related to the facies distributions of pore cavities and pore reservoirs. MA1, MA3, MA7, and MA8 are predominant microfacies associations of favourable reservoirs of the Deng IV Member in the Gaoshiti-Moxi area. Carbon control in the thermal power generation industry is crucial for achieving the overall carbon peak target. How to predict, evaluate, and balance the allocation of inter provincial carbon emissions has a significant impact on the decision-making of reasonable allocation of inter provincial carbon emissions in the target year. Therefore, this paper uses Monte Carlo-ARIMA-BP neural network and ZSG-DEA model to conduct temporal trend prediction and carbon emission quota allocation research. We propose the "intra provincial and inter provincial" framework for carbon emissions trading in thermal power plants, which aims to break through the barriers in carbon emission rights exchange among provinces. The conclusions are as follows: (1) the growth trend of carbon emissions from thermal power is gradually slowing down and is expected to peak before 2030. (2) Inner Mongolia, Jiangsu, and Shandong have high input-output efficiency, and are all the main output provinces for carbon emission quota allocation. After being adjusted using the ZSG-DEA model, they can still be at the forefront of efficiency. (3) The "intra provincial and inter provincial" framework for carbon emissions trading can effectively predict and allocate the carbon emission demand of each province from time and space dimensions, balance the carbon emission rights and interests of each province, and provide forward-looking planning suggestions for inter provincial carbon emission rights exchange., (© 2023. Laser polishing is a noncontact and efficient processing method for surface treatment of different materials. It removes surface material and improves its quality by means of a laser beam that acts directly on the surface of the material. The material surface roughness is a major criterion that evaluates the polishing effect when alumina ceramics are polished by a laser. In this study, the effects of three factors, namely, laser power, scanning speed, and pulse frequency, on the surface roughness were investigated through orthogonal tests. The optimum polishing parameters were obtained through a comparison of the experimental results. Compared to the initial surface roughness (Ra = 1.624 μm), the roughness of the polished surface was reduced to Ra = 0.549 μm. A transient two-dimensional model was established by the COMSOL Multiphysics 5.5, and the flow condition of the material inside the molten pool of laser-polished alumina ceramics and the surface morphology of the smoothing process were investigated by utilizing the optimal polishing parameters obtained from the experiments. The simulation results showed that in the process of laser polishing, the fluid inside the molten pool flowed from the peaks to the valleys under the action of capillary force, and the inside of the molten pool tended to be smoothened gradually. In order to verify the correctness of the numerical model, the surface profile at the same position on the material surface was compared, and the results showed that the maximum error between the numerical simulation and the experimental results was 17.8%.

Electro-enhanced metal-free boron/peroxymonosulfate (B/PMS) system has demonstrated potential for efficient metal-organic complexes degradation in an eco-friendly way. However, the efficiency and durability of the boron activator are limited by associated passivation effect. Additionally, the lack of suitable methods utilizing in-situ recovery of metal ions liberated from decomplexation causes huge resource waste. In this study, B/PMS coupled with a customized flow electrolysis membrane (FEM) system is proposed to address above challenges with Ni-EDTA used as the model contaminant. Electrolysis is confirmed to remarkably promote the activation performance of boron towards PMS to efficiently generate • OH which dominated Ni-EDTA decomplexation in the anode chamber. It is revealed that the acidification near the anode electrode improves the stability of boron by inhibiting passivation layer growth. Under optimal parameters (10 mM PMS, 0.5 g/L boron, initial pH = 2.3, current density = 68.87 A/m 2 ), 91.8% of Ni-EDTA could be degraded in 40 min, with a k obs of 6.25 × 10 -2 min -1 . As the decomplexation proceeds, nickel ions are recovered in the cathode chamber with little interference from the concentration of co-existing cations. Laser polishing is an emerging efficient technique to remove surface asperity without polluting the environment. However, the insufficient understanding of the mechanism of laser polishing has limited its practical application in industry. In this study, a dual-beam laser polishing experiment was carried out to reduce the roughness of a primary Ti6Al4V sample, and the polishing mechanism was well studied using simulation analysis. The results showed that the surface roughness of the sample was efficiently reduced from an initial 10.96 μm to 1.421 μm using dual-beam laser processing. The simulation analysis regarding the evolution of material surface morphology and the flow behavior of the molten pool during laser the polishing process revealed that the capillary force attributed to surface tension was the main driving force for flattening the large curvature surface of the molten pool at the initial stage, whereas the thermocapillary force influenced from temperature gradient played the key role of eliminating the secondary roughness at the edge of the molten pool during the continuous wave laser polishing process. However, the effect of thermocapillary force can be ignored during the second processing stage in dual-beam laser polishing. The simulation result is well in agreement with the experimental result, indicating the accuracy of the mechanism for the dual-beam laser polishing process. In summary, this work reveals the effect of capillary force and thermocapillary force on molten pool flows during the dual-beam laser polishing processes. Moreover, it is also proved that the dual-beam laser polishing process can further reduce the surface roughness of a sample and obtain a smoother surface.

Accumulation of vimentin is the core event in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Post-translational modifications have been widely reported to play crucial roles in imparting different properties and functions to vimentin. Here, a novel modification of vimentin, acetylated at Lys 104 (vimentin-K104Ac) is identified, which is stable in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) cells. Mechanistically, NACHT, LRR, and PYD domain-containing protein 11 (NLRP11), a regulator of the inflammatory response, bind to vimentin and promote vimentin-K104Ac expression, which is highly expressed in the early stages of LUAD and frequently appears in vimentin-positive LUAD tissues. In addition, it is observed that an acetyltransferase, lysine acetyltransferase 7 (KAT7), which binds to NLRP11 and vimentin, directly mediates the acetylation of vimentin at Lys 104 and that the cytoplasmic localization of KAT7 can be induced by NLRP11. Malignant promotion mediated by transfection with vimentin-K104Q is noticeably greater than that mediated by transfection with vimentin-WT. Further, suppressing the effects of NLRP11 and KAT7 on vimentin noticeably inhibited the malignant behavior of vimentin-positive LUAD in vivo and in vitro. In summary, these findings have established a relationship between inflammation and EMT, which is reflected via KAT7-mediated acetylation of vimentin at Lys 104 dependent on NLRP11., (© 2023 The Authors. Emerging research indicates that circRNAs serve a crucial role in occurrence and development of cancers. This study aimed to uncover the biological role of hsa&#95;circ&#95;0000519 in the progression of LUAD (lung adenocarcinoma). hsa&#95;circ&#95;0000519 was identified by bioinformatic analysis, and its differential expression was validated in LUAD tissues and cell lines. CCK8, colony formation, wound healing, transwell assays, and xenograft tumor models were used to observe the biological functions of hsa&#95;circ&#95;0000519. FISH, RIP, dual luciferase reporter assays, and recovery experiments were implemented to explore the underlying mechanisms of hsa&#95;circ&#95;0000519. hsa&#95;circ&#95;0000519 was significantly upregulated in LUAD tissues and cell lines. The expression of hsa&#95;circ&#95;0000519 was positively correlated with T grade and TNM stage in patients with LUAD. Downregulation of hsa&#95;circ&#95;0000519 remarkably reduced cell proliferation, migration, invasion in vitro, and tumor growth in vivo. Mechanistic investigation demonstrated that hsa&#95;circ&#95;0000519 directly sponged hsa-miR-1296-5p to reduce its repressive impact on DARS as well as activate the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. The malignant phenotypes of LUAD cells induced by upregulation of hsa&#95;circ&#95;0000519 could be rescued by hsa-miR-1296-5p overexpression or knockdown of DARS. Metabolic dysregulation has been reported involving in the clinical outcomes of multiple cancers. However, systematical identification of the impact of metabolic pathways on cancer prognosis is still lacking. Here, we performed a pan-cancer analysis of popular metabolic checkpoint genes and pathways with cancer prognosis by integrating information of clinical survival with gene expression and pathway activity in multiple cancer patients. By discarding the effects of age and sex, we revealed extensive and significant associations between the survival of cancer patients and the expression of metabolic checkpoint genes, as well as the activities of three primary metabolic pathways: amino acid metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, lipid metabolism, and eight nonprimary metabolic pathways. Among multiple cancers, we found the survival of kidney renal clear cell carcinoma and low-grade glioma exhibit high metabolic dependence. Our work systematically assesses the impact of metabolic checkpoint genes and pathways on cancer prognosis, providing clues for further study of cancer diagnosis and therapy.

An embedded spherical dot taper structure (EDT) based on the MZI principle is proposed in this paper, which is mainly fabricated by using two special arc discharges in the preparation process. The proposed structure involves two specialized arc discharge techniques. First, an oversaturated discharge fusion process creates a micro-arc spherical area on the fiber end face to form the first link type. Second, an unsaturated discharge-pulling taper fusion joint creates a local micro-extrusion operation on this micro-arc fiber end face to form the second link. The thermal stress from instantaneous discharge causes a reverse spherical expansion zone to form in the end face structure, similar to the micromachining of long-period fiber gratings that use local CO 2 laser etching to create modulated zones. The study involves a mathematical and theoretical analysis of how geometric parameters in the spherical modulation zone impact the structure's characteristic spectrum. The research demonstrates the potential for this structure to function as a light-intensity modulated strain sensor device through both theoretical and experimental means. As per the experimental findings, the optimized structure displays a high level of strain sensing sensitivity at 0.03 dB/µε and temperature sensing sensitivity of 73 pm/°C (20°C-75°C) and 169 pm/°C (75°C-120°C). Additionally, it possesses excellent cross-sensitivity at only ∼0.0015 µε/°C. Therefore, this sensor presents a favorable option for strain and temperature synchronization sensing and monitoring components, and exhibits notable application prospects in precision engineering, which encompasses mechanical manufacturing, the power and electrical industry, healthcare domain, and certain specialized areas of small-scale precision engineering.

Background: This study aimed to detect expression level of microRNA-383-5p (miR-383-5p) in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients following chemotherapy and its potential influence on the prognosis in CRC., Methods: A total of 150 CRC patients treated in The First Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine from June 2016 to July 2019 were included. All patients were preoperatively treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Serum levels of miR-383-5p in CRC patients before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy were detected by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Univariable and multivariate unconditioned Cox hazard analyses were conducted to assess risk factors for prognosis in CRC patients. The prognostic value of miR-383-5p in CRC was examined by depicting Kaplan-Meier curves., Results: Overexpression of miR-383-5p could enhance the sensitivity of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in CRC patients. Its level was closely related to differentiation, TNM staging, lymphatic metastasis and vascular infiltration in CRC. Cox hazard analyses demonstrated that stage III+IV, lymphatic metastasis, vascular invasion and low serum level of miR-383-5p were risk factors for prognosis in CRC patients. High level of miR-383-5p was favorable to the overall survival in CRC., Conclusions: MiR-383-5p is lowly expressed in serum of CRC patients. Upregulation of miR-383-5p is beneficial to the therapeutic efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy and the prognosis in CRC.

Selenium (Se) is located in the fourth period of the periodic table in group VIA (element 34). In this experiment, three different solvents (isopropyl alcohol, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, and ethanol) were used to prepare the two-dimensional Se nanosheets, which were manufactured by the liquid phase exfoliation method with a thickness of 3.35-4.64 nm and a transverse scale of several hundred nanometers. The nonlinear absorption properties at 355, 532, and 1064 nm were studied using the open aperture Z -scan technique. Final results showed that Se nanosheets exhibited optical limiting (OL) effect in all three wavebands and three solvents, and had large two-photon absorption coefficients, especially in ultraviolet (UV) waveband. Which proved that Se nanosheets had great potential application as excellent OL materials in UV waveband. A high gain and high aperture efficiency metamaterial (MTM) antenna is applied to a solar telescope in this paper. First, a portable solar telescope including the MTM antenna and a receiving system is presented. Next, the theory of the MTM antenna is proposed and analyzed based on the ray-tracing model. The designed MTM antenna is composed of a dual circularly polarized Fabry-Pérot resonant antenna (FPRA) and four phase correction metasurfaces (PCMs). The proposed PCMs act as the reflection surface and the phase correction surface at the same time. Every PCM consists of 2 × 18 optimized artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) units. To solve the parallel incidence and narrow bandwidth problems of AMC units, a nonuniform partially reflective surface is designed. Compared with traditional FPRA, the proposed MTM antenna has an increase in peak gain of 37.5% and an aperture efficiency of 11.4%. Then, a receiving system composed of the receiver, equatorial mount, data acquisition module, and display module is presented for solar radio signal processing. Finally, the designed MTM antenna and solar telescope are simulated and measured. In clinical settings, an estimated 10% differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) cases become radioactive iodide refractory (RAIR), which lack a molecular marker and have fewer treatment selections. A higher uptake of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) might indicate poor prognosis for DTC. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical value of 18F-FDG psitron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for the early diagnosis of RAIR-DTC and high-risk DTC. A total of 68 DTC patients were enrolled and underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT for the detection of recurrence and/or metastasis. 18F-FDG uptake was evaluated in patients with different postoperative recurrence risks or TNM stages and compared between RAIR and non-RAIR-DTC based on its maximum standardized uptake value and tumor/liver (T/L) ratio. The final diagnosis was judged by histopathology and follow-up data. Of 68 DTC cases, 42 were RAIR and 24 non-RAIR, with 2 not determined. A total of 263 of 293 lesions detected on 18F-FDG PET/CT were confirmed to be locoregional or metastatic after follow-up. The T/L ratio was significantly higher for RAIR than for non-RAIR (median 5.18 vs 1.44; P < .01) and also significantly higher in postoperative patients at high-risk of recurrence than at low to medium risk (median 4.90 vs 2.16; P < .01). 18F-FDG PET/CT exhibited a sensitivity of 83.3% and specificity of 87.5% for identifying RAIR, with a cutoff T/L value of 2.98. 18F-FDG PET/CT has the potential to diagnose RAIR-DTC early and identify the high-risk DTC. Salvia is a large genus with hundreds of species used in traditional Chinese medicine. Tanshinones are a highly representative class of exclusive compounds found in the Salvia genus that exhibit significant biological activity. Tanshinone components have been identified in 16 Salvia species. The CYP76AH subfamily (P450) is crucial for the synthesis of tanshinone due to its catalytic generation of polyhydroxy structures. In this study, a total of 420 CYP76AH genes were obtained, and phylogenetic analysis showed their clear clustering relationships. Fifteen CYP76AH genes from 10 Salvia species were cloned and studied from the perspectives of evolution and catalytic efficiency. Three CYP76AHs with significantly improved catalytic efficiency compared to SmCYP76AH3 were identified, providing efficient catalytic elements for the synthetic biological production of tanshinones. A structure-function relationship study revealed several conserved residues that might be related to the function of CYP76AHs and provided a new mutation direction for the study of the directed evolution of plant P450.

The cholinergic transmission in the medial septum and ventral limb of the diagonal band of broca (MS/VDB)-hippocampal circuit and its associated theta oscillations play a crucial role in chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH)-related cognitive impairment. However, the contribution and mechanism of the vesicular acetylcholine transporter (VAChT), a vital protein that regulates acetylcholine (ACh) release, in CCH-related cognitive impairment are not well understood. To investigate this, we established a rat model of CCH by performing 2-vessel occlusion (2-VO) and overexpressed VAChT in the MS/VDB via stereotaxic injection of adeno-associated virus (AAV). We evaluated the cognitive function of the rats using the Morris Water Maze (MWM) and Novel Object Recognition Test (NOR). We employed enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), Western blot (WB), and immunohistochemistry (IHC) to assess hippocampal cholinergic levels. We also conducted in vivo local field potentials (LFPs) recording experiments to evaluate changes in hippocampal theta oscillations and synchrony. Our findings showed that VAChT overexpression shortened the escape latency in the hidden platform test, increased swimming time in the platform quadrant in probe trains, and increased the recognition index (RI) in NOR. Moreover, VAChT overexpression increased hippocampal cholinergic levels, improved theta oscillations, and improved the synchrony of theta oscillations between CA1 and CA3 in CCH rats. These results suggest that VAChT plays a protective role in CCH-induced cognitive deficits by regulating cholinergic transmission in the MS/VDB-hippocampal circuit and promoting hippocampal theta oscillations. The upper Paleozoic strata in the western part of the Ordos Basin have rich oil and gas resources but low exploration levels. These strata were subjected to multiple tectonic events, such as the Caledonian, Hercynian, Indosinian, and Himalayan movements, which led to a relatively complex process of hydrocarbon accumulation in the study area. These strata also have obvious structural segmentation in the north-south direction. However, the accumulation periods of the upper Paleozoic strata in different structural sections of the western Ordos Basin and their differences are poorly understood. A total of 65 sandstone samples from the upper Paleozoic reservoirs in 16 representative wells were selected for fluid inclusion analyses. The results of fluid inclusion analyses, combined with the burial-thermal histories of representative wells, were used to determine the hydrocarbon accumulation periods of the main layers and summarize their patterns in different structural regions and layers. The results show that the formation of fluid inclusions in the main upper Paleozoic strata can be divided into two stages. The first-stage inclusions mainly occur in secondary quartz edges, and the second-stage inclusions mainly occur in healed microcracks. The inclusion types are dominantly hydrocarbon-bearing, brine, and minor nonhydrocarbon gas inclusions. The hydrocarbon components are mostly CH 4 and minor asphaltene, and the nonhydrocarbon gases are dominantly CO 2 and minor SO 2 . The homogenization temperatures of the brine inclusions associated with hydrocarbon inclusions in major layers in the study area have a wide distribution and multiple peaks; the main peaks in the central part of a given tectonic area are slightly lower than those in the eastern part, and the main peaks in a given location tend to increase with decreasing burial depth. Hydrocarbon accumulation in the upper Paleozoic strata in the study area mainly occurred in the Early and Middle Jurassic and Early Cretaceous. The Early and Middle Jurassic were the mature oil and gas accumulation periods, and the Early Cretaceous was the high-maturity natural gas accumulation period and the most critical accumulation period. Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) is increasingly recognized as a common cognitive impairment-causing mechanism. However, no clinically effective drugs to treat cognitive impairment due to CCH have been identified. An abnormal distribution of neural oscillations was found in the hippocampus of CCH rats. By releasing various neurotransmitters, distinct afferent fibers in the hippocampus influence neuronal oscillations in the hippocampus. Enriched environments (EE) are known to improve cognitive levels by modulating neurotransmitter homeostasis. Using EE as an intervention, we examined the levels of three classical neurotransmitters and the dynamics of neural oscillations in the hippocampus of the CCH rat model. The results showed that EE significantly improved the balance of three classical neurotransmitters (acetylcholine, glutamate, and GABA) in the hippocampus, enhanced the strength of theta and slow-gamma (SG) rhythms, and dramatically improved neural coupling across frequency bands in CCH rats. Furthermore, the expression of the three neurotransmitter vesicular transporters-vesicular acetylcholine transporters (VAChT) and vesicular GABA transporters (VGAT)-was significantly reduced in CCH rats, whereas the expression of vesicular glutamate transporter 1 (VGLUT1) was abnormally elevated. EE partially restored the expression of the three protein levels to maintain the balance of hippocampal afferent neurotransmitters. More importantly, causal mediation analysis showed EE increased the power of theta rhythm by increasing the level of VAChT and VGAT, which then enhanced the phase amplitude coupling of theta-SG and finally led to an improvement in the cognitive level of CCH. These findings shed light on the role of CCH in the disruption of hippocampal afferent neurotransmitter balance and neural oscillations. Chronic inflammation and dyslipidemia are important risk factors in developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, such as coronary heart disease. Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is one of the most dangerous syndromes in coronary heart disease. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is considered equal to coronary heart disease owing to the high cardiac risk induced by chronic inflammation and dyslipidemia. The neutrophil to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHR) is a novel and straightforward marker that reflects inflammation and lipid metabolic disorder. However, few studies have been on the role of NHR in assessing the risk of ACS in T2DM patients. Here we analyzed NHR level in ACS patients with T2DM, exploring its predictive and diagnostic values. 211 hospitalized ACS patients with T2DM were recruited as the case group, and 168 hospitalized T2DM patients as the control group (all patients collected from 6/2020 to 12/2021 in Xiangya Hospital). Biochemical test results and echocardiograms, as well as demographic information such as age, BMI, diabetes mellitus, smoking, drinking, and history of hypertension, were recorded. Frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations were used to describe the data. The shapiro-Wilk test was used to assess the normality of the data. Normally distributed data were compared using the independent sample T-test, and non-normally distributed data were compared using Mann-Whitney U test. Correlation analysis was performed using the Spearman rank correlation test, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and multivariable logistic regression analysis were performed by SPSS version 24.0 (SPSS Inc) and GraphPad Prism 9.0 (GraphPad Software Inc). p < 0.05 was considered significant. In the study population, NHR was higher in patients with T2DM combined with ACS than in T2DM patients without ACS (p < 0.001). After adjusting for BMI, alcohol consumption, and history of hypertension, multifactorial logistic regression analysis revealed that NHR is a risk factor for T2DM patients combined with ACS (OR 1.221, p = 0.0126). Correlation analysis on all ACS patients with T2DM showed that NHR level was positively correlated with cTnI (r = 0.437, p < 0.001), CK (r = 0.258, p = 0.001), CK-Mb (r = 0.447, p < 0.001), LDH (r = 384, p < 0.001), Mb (r = 0.320, p < 0.001), LA (r = 0.168, p = 0.042) and LV levels (r = 0.283, p = 0.001). And meanwhile, NHR level was negatively correlated with EF (r = - 0.327, p < 0.001) and FS levels (r = - 0.347, p < 0.001). ROC curve analysis showed that NHR ≧ 4.32 had a sensitivity of 65.45% and a specificity of 66.19% for predicting ACS in T2DM patients [area under the curve (AUC) = 0.722, p < 0.001]. Furthermore, in all ACS patients with T2DM, the diagnostic power of NHR was stronger in ST-segment elevated ACS patients (STE-ACS) than that in non-ST-segment elevated ACS patients (NSTE-ACS) (p < 0.001). The proposal of "double carbon" goal increases the pressure of power structure transformation. This paper sets up two scenarios according to the timing progress of realizing the "double carbon" goal and explores the transformation planning schemes of China's power structure. The conclusions are as follows: (1) Technological progress and policy support will greatly reduce the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of onshore wind power, offshore wind power, photovoltaic power, and photothermal power. The rapid rise in carbon price will lead to the LCOE of coal power in 2060 rising to 2 CNY/kWh. (2) The power consumption of the whole society in the baseline scenario can reach 17,000 TWh in 2060. In the acceleration scenario, this value may triple that in 2020 to 21,550 TWh. (3) The acceleration scenario will pay more newly added power costs and coal power stranded scale than the baseline scenario but can achieve carbon peak and negative emissions earlier. (4) More attention should be paid to the flexible level of power system, improve the allocation proportion and requirements of new energy storage on the power supply side, help the steady exit of coal power, and ensure the safety of low-carbon transformation of power structure., (© 2023. Photonic edge mode confining light in cavities of surface plasmons is beneficial in image and biosensor applications. In the terahertz band, however, the edge mode in a cavity of spoof localized surface plasmons has not matured sufficiently. Herein, a cost-effective strategy to achieve a terahertz photonic edge mode using a metasurface of strongly coupled fourfold spoof localized surface plasmons in a tetramer layout is demonstrated. The quality factors of edge modes decrease when the tetramer shrinks, as revealed by the terahertz dielectric functions. The edge modes that emerge can be categorized as inner and outer edge modes, as deduced from the simulated electric field distribution. Our results show that the edge modes are due to the interaction of spoof localized surface plasmons in the terahertz band.

In this study, a numerical model of the plasma expansion on a droplet surface based on the initial plasma method was proposed. The initial plasma was obtained through the pressure inlet boundary condition, and the effect of ambient pressure on the initial plasma and adiabatic expansion of the plasma on the droplet surface, including the effect on the velocity and temperature distribution, were investigated. The simulation results showed that the ambient pressure decreased, leading to an increase in the expansion rate and temperature, and therefore a larger plasma size was formed. Laser polishing was used to reduce the surface roughness and improve the surface properties of alumina ceramics. In this paper, a response surface experimental design scheme is used to establish a mathematical model based on the Box-Behnken central combination principle, with the surface roughness as the optimization target to optimize the optimal process parameters for the laser polishing of alumina ceramics, to suppress the polished surface cracks by preheating the material, and to study the changes of surface properties of laser-polished alumina ceramics under different preheating temperatures. The optimal laser polishing process parameters were optimized by response surface experiments with a scanning speed of 323.5 mm/s, a laser power of 73.63 W, a pulse frequency of 2.3 kHz, and a scanning spacing of 0.09 mm; compared with the initial surface roughness of 4.67 μm, the polished surface roughness was 0.96 μm under the experimentally optimized polishing parameters, and the surface cracks were suppressed after the preheating treatment. The surface roughness was further reduced to 0.74 μm, and the surface wear coefficient was reduced from 0.5939 to 0.5725, while the surface hardness was increased from 1810 to 2063 HV. Optimization of the laser polishing process parameters through the response surface can significantly reduce the surface roughness of the material, while the flame preheating, assisted by the laser-polished surface wear resistance and hardness, is improved.

Objectives: Hippocampal neurogenesis is closely related to learning and memory, and hippocampal neurogenesis disorders are involved in the development of many neurodegenerative diseases. Mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) plays a vital role in regulating stress response, neuroendocrine and cognitive functions, and is involved in regulating the integrity and stability of neural networks. However, the potential role of MR in the pathogenesis of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is unclear. Therefore, this study evaluated the effect and mechanism of MR activation on postoperative hippocampal neurogenesis and cognitive function in aged mice., Methods: 18-month-old male Kunming mice were randomly divided into Control group (C group), Surgery group (S group), Surgery+ Aldosterone group (S+Aldo group), Surgery + Wortmannin group (S+Wort group), Surgery + Aldosterone + Wortmannin group (S+Aldo+Wort group). Laparotomy was used to establish an animal model of postoperative cognitive dysfunction. After surgery, mice were intraperitoneally injected with aldosterone (100 ug/kg,150 ug/kg,200 ug/kg) and / or wortmannin (1 mg/kg); One day before the sacrifice, mice were injected intraperitoneally with BrdU (100 mg / kg / time, 3 times in total). Mice were subjected to Morris water maze and field tests at 1, 3, 7, and 14 days after surgery. Immunofluorescence was used to detect the number of BrdU +, Nestin +, BrdU/Nestin + positive cells in the hippocampal dentate gyrus of mice at 1, 3, 7 and 14 days after surgery. Western-blot was used to detect PI3K/Akt/GSK-3β signaling pathway related proteins Akt, p-Akt, GSK-3β, P-GSK-3β expression., Results: Stress impairs the performance of aged mice in water maze and open field tests, reduces the number of BrdU/Nestin+ cells in the hippocampal dentate gyrus, and inhibits the phosphorylation of Akt and GSK-3β proteins in the hippocampus. Aldosterone treatment promotes P-Akt, P-GSK-3β protein expression and hippocampal neural stem cell proliferation, and improves postoperative cognitive dysfunction. However, wortmannin treatment significantly reversed these effects of aldosterone., Conclusions: The mineralocorticoid receptor agonist aldosterone promotes the proliferation of hippocampal neural stem cells and improves cognitive dysfunction in aged mice after surgery, and the mechanism may be related to activation of PI3K/Akt/GSK-3β signaling.

The development of oral drug delivery systems is challenging, and issues related to the mucus layer and low intestinal epithelial permeability have not yet been surmounted. The purpose of this study was to develop a promising formulation that is more adapted to in vivo absorption and to facilitate the administration of oral liraglutide. Cationic liposomes (CLs) linked to AT-1002 were prepared using a double-emulsion method, and BSA was adsorbed on the surface of the AT-CLs, resulting in protein corona cationic liposomes with AT-1002 (Pc-AT-CLs). The preparation method was determined by investigating various process parameters. The particle size, potential, and encapsulation efficiency (EE%) of the Pc-AT-CLs were 202.9 ± 12.4 nm, 1.76 ± 4.87 mV, and 84.63 ± 5.05%, respectively. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) imaging revealed a nearly spherical structure of the Pc-AT-CLs, with a recognizable coating. The circular dichroism experiments confirmed that the complex preparation process did not affect the secondary structure of liraglutide. With the addition of BSA and AT-1002, the mucosal accumulation of the Pc-AT-CLs was nearly two times lower than that of the AT-CLs, and the degree of enteric metaplasia was 1.35 times higher than that of the PcCLs. The duration of the intestinal absorption of the Pc-AT-CLs was longer, offering remarkable biological safety.

Due to the extremely low solubility, mercury sulfide minerals, as the major environmental mercury sinks, are generally considered to be inert mercury species with minimal bioavailability. Here, we demonstrate that extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), continuously secreted and released by anaerobic methylating bacteria, enhance the dissolution processes of cinnabar (α-HgS) minerals. The enhancing effects of EPS occur to a greater extent in the dissolution of nanoparticulate α-HgS compared to the bulk-scale counterpart. The released EPS-Hg(II) species are available for microbial methylation to produce bioaccumulative neurotoxin, methylmercury. This is probably due to the abundant aromatic proteins in EPS that strongly interact with surface Hg(II) via inner-sphere complexation as well as cation-π interaction. Our study discovers the potential environmental risks of "inert" mercury sulfide minerals in natural microbial habitats, particularly benthic biofilms with abundant microbial EPS, transformed to the severely toxic methylmercury. The mechanistic findings will facilitate an accurate understanding of the interactions between soft and transition metals and microorganism-derived organics, which may dictate the environmental fate and impact of these elements.
