PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Environmental chemical exposures may disrupt child development, with long-lasting health impacts. To date, U.S. studies of early environmental exposures have been limited in size and diversity, hindering power and generalizability. With harmonized data from over 60,000 participants representing 69 pregnancy cohorts, the National Institutes of Healths Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program is the largest study of U.S. childrens health. Here, we: (1) review ECHO-wide studies of chemical exposures and maternal-child health; and (2) outline opportunities for future research using ECHO data. RECENT FINDINGS: As of early 2024, in addition to over 200 single-cohort (or award) papers on chemical exposures supported by ECHO, ten collaborative multi-cohort papers have been made possible by ECHO data harmonization and new data collection. Multi-cohort papers have examined prenatal exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), phthalates, phenols and parabens, organophosphate esters (OPEs), metals, melamine and aromatic amines, and emerging contaminants. They have primarily focused on describing patterns of maternal exposure or examining associations with maternal and infant outcomes; fewer studies have examined later child outcomes (e.g., autism) although follow up of enrolled ECHO children continues. The NICHDs Data and Specimen Hub (DASH) database houses extensive ECHO data including over 470,000 chemical assay results and complementary data on priority outcome areas (pre, peri-, and postnatal, airway, obesity, neurodevelopment, and positive health), making it a rich resource for future analyses. ECHOs extensive data repository, including biomarkers of chemical exposures, can be used to advance our understanding of environmental influences on childrens health. Although few published studies have capitalized on these unique harmonized data to date, many analyses are underway with data now widely available.

This dissertation examines the function of echo in post-colonial novels. The impact of colonial traumas resulted in the formation of social and literary ripples, and as these ripples move outward, they dissipate or collide with one another, behaving as sound-waves. These sound-waves can then be captured in text as latent echoes, and re-sounded as authors respond to traumas and to one another. This work focuses on E.M. Forster’s A Passage to India as echoic and echoed, as a novel that is structured on mirroring and reverberation, as well as a work that continues to be echoed by other authors. Examining post-colonial works that echo and respond to A Passage to India, this work looks at the function of echo in novels such as Salman Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children, Mulk Raj Anand’s Untouchable, G.V. Desani’s All About H. Hatterr, and Aravind Adiga’s The White Tiger. Looking to the works of Judith Greenberg, Cathy Caruth, John Hollander, and Michaela Bronstein in discussing echoes and trauma, this is an exploration of the novel’s role in echoing generational colonial trauma. Seeking to better understand the function of echo and what is happening in Indian English literature over time, as either a reinscribing loop, or a means of dissipation toward healing.

This thesis aims to solve the enigmatic narrative of Jesus’ healing of a man blind from birth at Siloam in the Gospel of John 9, with a particular focus on verses 6–7. Within the context of intertextual connections, this story resonates with numerous narrative patterns and echoes found throughout the Bible. These intertextual connections provide important keys for interpreting this passage. By discerning the intertextual connections between this narrative and other parts of the Bible, readers will gain insight into the broader themes of Creation, Salvation, and the Trinity that are interwoven into this story. It means that this passage is not merely a standalone chapter within the Gospel of John but a vessel for conveying the profound themes that permeate the entire book of John, the Johannine literature, the New Testament, and even the entirety of the Bible. Through this interconnectedness, it becomes evident that the Bible delivers a unified message about Jesus.

The article discusses animated works by Wojciech Bąkowski and the broader context of their origins addressing Jean-Luc Nancy’s philosophy of division of voices and its hermeneutical implications. Making explicit reference to these theoretical considerations, the author analyzes “Speaking Movies” by Bąkowski and his new productions for art galleries, employing digital tools to reinvestigate their meaning and interpret his autotelic recitation. The analysis follows several distinctive examples that highlight, via different experimental techniques, the interplay between verbal articulations, echo-like effects, and reverberations in the production of a differentiated audiovisual landscape.

In this article we propose a simple distance estimation based on a pulsed radar system. The method consists of sending periodic signals formed from an orthogonal wavelet family and measuring the echo’s delay produced by the target in a domain different than the temporal one. The results of the simulations show an acceptable precision in the determination of the distance, avoiding the complex methods of synchronization, filtering and decision, used in traditional pulsed radars., En este artículo proponemos una estimación de distancia simple soportada en un sistema de radar de pulso. Gian Francesco Malipiero’s ‘nine songs’ are, by the author’s own admission, to be identified with his three works Le tre poesie di Angelo Poliziano (1920), Quattro sonetti del Burchiello (1921) and Due sonetti del Berni (1922). These songs for voice and piano belong to the cultural trend that laid the foundations for the recovery of antiquity, which became the so-called ‘historical mission’ of the 1980s generation. This didactic program, aimed at students in the second biennium of high school, starts with a morphological analysis of the verbal text, which is compared with that of the musical text, and continues with an exploration of the solutions that Malipiero adopted to highlight the ancient Italian tradition through interactions between music and literature. The activities suggested here, based on listening as part of the analysis of a poetic text, aim to encourage the various cross-disciplinary connections emerging from the “nine songs”.

RationaleAsthma and obesity often co-occur. It has been hypothesized that asthma may contribute to childhood obesity onset.ObjectivesTo determine if childhood asthma is associated with incident obesity and examine the role of asthma medication in this association.MethodsWe studied 8,716 children between ages 6 and 18.5 years who were nonobese at study entry participating in 18 US cohorts of the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes program (among 7,299 children with complete covariate data mean [SD] study entry age = 7.2 [1.6] years and follow up = 5.3 [3.1] years).Measurements and main resultsWe defined asthma based on caregiver report of provider diagnosis. Incident obesity was defined as the first documented body mass index ≥95th percentile for age and sex following asthma status ascertainment. Over the study period, 26% of children had an asthma diagnosis and 11% developed obesity. Cox proportional hazards models with sex-specific baseline hazards were fitted to assess the association of asthma diagnosis with obesity incidence. Children with asthma had a 23% (95% confidence intervals [CI] = 4, 44) higher risk for subsequently developing obesity compared with those without asthma. A novel mediation analysis was also conducted to decompose the total asthma effect on obesity into pathways mediated and not mediated by asthma medication use. Use of asthma medication attenuated the total estimated effect of asthma on obesity by 64% (excess hazard ratios = 0.64; 95% CI = -1.05, -0.23).ConclusionsThis nationwide study supports the hypothesis that childhood asthma is associated with later risk of obesity. Asthma medication may reduce this association and merits further investigation as a potential strategy for obesity prevention among children with asthma.

In spite of the fact that allusion is widely used by poets, writers and philosophers as well as in everyday language, its features and scope as a cognitive device have been scarcely studied. This is true to the de extent that the noun allusion is not worth a humble entry in specialized dictionaries and encyclopaedias, not only of philosophy, but also neither of linguistics. Taking into account such a status quaestionis, this paper attempts to achieve several goals, namely, 1) showing that allusion is a cognitive device; 2) defining allusion with regard to quotation, plagiarism and echo; 3) considering allusion as a case of implicature; and 4) analysing the main features of allusion. All these items are studied by means of appealing to serious, poetic and philosophical texts as well as humorous and everyday language texts and utterances., A pesar de que la alusión es ampliamente usada por poetas, escritores y filósofos así como en el lenguaje cotidiano, sus características y alcance como instrumento cognitivo se han estudiado escasamente. Esto es cierto hasta el extremo de que el sustantivo alusión no es merecedor de una humilde entrada en diccionarios y enciclopedias especializados, no solamente de filosofía, sino tampoco de lingüística. Teniendo en cuenta este status quaestionis, este trabajo intenta conseguir los siguientes objetivos, a saber: 1) mostrar que la alusión es un instrumento cognitivo; 2) delimitar la alusión con respecto a la cita, el plagio y el eco; 3) considerar la alusión como un caso de implicatura; y 4) analizar las principales características de la alusión. Todos estos puntos se estudian mediante el recurso a textos poéticos y filosóficos serios, así como a textos y proferencias humorísticos y del lenguaje cotidiano.

Background Previous studies have identified several echocardiographic markers of cardiac dysfunction in participants with diabetes mellitus, including E/e'. However, previous studies have been limited by short follow-up duration or low statistical power, and none have assessed whether echocardiographic predictors of adverse cardiovascular outcome differ between individuals with DM and individuals without DM. Methods A total of 1997 individuals from the general population without heart disease had an echocardiogram performed in 2001 to 2003. Diabetes was defined as HbA(1c) >= 6.5% (>= 48 mmol/mol), non-fasted blood glucose >= 11.1 mmol/L or the use of glucose lowering medication. The end-point was a composite of heart failure (HF), ischemic heart disease (IHD) and cardiovascular death (CVD). Results At baseline, a total of 292 participants (15%) had diabetes. Median follow-up time was 12.4 years (interquartile-range: 9.8-12.8 years) and follow-up was 100%. During follow-up, 101 participants (35%) with diabetes and 281 participants without diabetes (16%) reached the composite end-point. The prognostic value of E/e' was significantly modified by diabetes (p for interaction: 0.003). In participants with diabetes, only E/e' remained an independent predictor of outcome in a final multivariable model adjusted for clinical and echocardiographic parameters (HR 1.08, 95% CI 1.00-1.17, p = 0.0041, per 1 increase). In participants without diabetes, left ventricular mass index (LVMI), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and a' remained independent predictors of outcome when adjusted for clinical and echocardiographic parameters. In individuals with diabetes, only E/e' added incremental prognostic value to risk factors from the SCORE risk chart and the ACC/AHA Pooled Cohort Equation. BACKGROUND:Next generation sequencing (NGS) has become a universal practice in modern molecular biology. As the throughput of sequencing experiments increases, the preparation of conventional multiplexed libraries becomes more labor intensive. Conventional library preparation typically requires quality control (QC) testing for individual libraries such as amplification success evaluation and quantification, none of which occur until the end of the library preparation process. RESULTS:In this study, we address the need for a more streamlined high-throughput NGS workflow by tethering real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) to conventional workflows to save time and implement single tube and single reagent QC. We modified two distinct library preparation workflows by replacing PCR and quantification with qPCR using SYBR Green I. qPCR enabled individual library quantification for pooling in a single tube without the need for additional reagents. Additionally, a melting curve analysis was implemented as an intermediate QC test to confirm successful amplification. Sequencing analysis showed comparable percent reads for each indexed library, demonstrating that pooling calculations based on qPCR allow for an even representation of sequencing reads. To aid the modified workflow, a software toolkit was developed and used to generate pooling instructions and analyze qPCR and melting curve data. CONCLUSIONS:We successfully applied fluorescent amplification for next generation sequencing (FA-NGS) library preparation to both plasmids and bacterial genomes. As a result of using qPCR for quantification and proceeding directly to library pooling, the modified library preparation workflow has fewer overall steps. Therefore, we speculate that the FA-NGS workflow has less risk of user error. The melting curve analysis provides the necessary QC test to identify and troubleshoot library failures prior to sequencing. BACKGROUND: Anomalous left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery (ALCAPA) or Bland-White-Garland syndrome is a rare congenital anomaly that has profound effects on heart function. Patients with ALCAPA present with non-specific symptoms like irritability, feeding difficulties and signs and symptoms of cardiac failure. If left untreated, ALCAPA has a 90% mortality rate in the first year of life, primarily due to myocardial ischemia and heart failure. It is therefore important to diagnose them in time and offer surgery. OBJECTIVES: The primary objective of the study was to determine the clinical presentation and severity of symptoms using the Ross classification and to describe the clinical status of the patients at last follow up, including the clinical outcome (Ross classification) and survival. METHODS: This was a retrospective descriptive study at the Department of Pediatric Cardiology between January 1998 and August 2019. All patients with the diagnosis of ALCAPA during the study period were included. Medical records of patients referred from Free State, Northern Cape and Lesotho were reviewed. Data collection included demographics of patients, clinical presentations, referral diagnosis, echocardiography before and after surgery, catheterization data, surgical data, clinical presentation at last follow up and ECHO at last follow up. Data was captured using the REDCap® online database. The researchers considered a Ross classification of more than two as clinically diagnostic of heart failure. The SF ranges were classified as follows: SF >28% = normal, SF 20-25% = mild, SF 15-20% = moderate and SF <15% =severe. RESULTS: During the study period a total of 30 patients presented to Universitas Paediatric Cardiology Unit with the diagnosis of ALCAPA. At presentation, 89% (n=25) of patients were in cardiac failure with a Ross classification for age of more than two. The Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program is a research initiative funded by the National Institutes of Health that capitalizes on existing cohort studies to investigate the impact of early life environmental factors on child health and development from infancy through adolescence. In the initial stage of the program, extant data from 70 existing cohort studies are being uploaded to a database that will be publicly available to researchers. This new database will represent an unprecedented opportunity for researchers to combine data across existing cohorts to address associations between prenatal chemical exposures and child neurodevelopment. Data elements collected by ECHO cohorts were determined via a series of surveys administered by the ECHO Data Analysis Center. The most common chemical classes quantified in multiple cohorts include organophosphate pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, environmental phenols (including bisphenol A), phthalates, and metals. For each of these chemicals, at least four ECHO cohorts also collected behavioral data during infancy/early childhood using the Child Behavior Checklist. For these chemicals and this neurodevelopmental assessment (as an example), existing data from multiple ECHO cohorts could be pooled to address research questions requiring larger sample sizes than previously available. In addition to summarizing the data that will be available, the article also describes some of the challenges inherent in combining existing data across cohorts, as well as the gaps that could be filled by the additional data collection in the ECHO Program going forward.

Introduction: Dengue rarely affects the heart but clinical symptoms of cardiac involvement may range greatly from silent illness to severe myocarditis resulting in death. Clinical features are asymptomatic and most are transient among patients with DF/DHF. Material and methods: It was an observational study conducted at the Department of General Medicine, Peoples College of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Bhopal. The total duration of the study was One and a half years from November 2016 to APR 2018. All normotensive diabetic patients less than 45 years of age presenting to the Department of General Medicine, Peoples College of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Bhopal during one and half years from which data was collected using as per given proforma. Results: In the present study, It was found that significant Pearson's correlation between age of diabetics and diastolic changes in ECHO, and serum creatinine and diastolic changes in ECHO. The rest of the parameters like blood urea, blood pressure, RBS, FBS, PPBS, and duration of diabetes were not significantly correlated. Conclusion: It was concluded that in the present study, diabetes mellitus is itself a risk factor for developing diastolic dysfunction though its prevalence increases with increasing age, serum creatinine and there is no association found between duration of diabetes and diastolic dysfunction. So screening of every young normotensive diabetic for diastolic dysfunction should be done to prevent early cardiovascular disease.

All dengue patients presenting to People’s Hospital during one and half years from which data was collected using as per given proforma. Results: In the present study group of 58 patients, it was found that 49 patients (84.5%) have not shown any cardiac abnormalities and 9 patients have abnormal values (15.5%) but are not significant. It is also found that the incidence of cardiac manifestations was more common in DHF and dengue shock syndrome which was 15.5% and 3.4%, respectively. Conclusion: Clinical manifestations of cardiac involvement can vary widely from silent disease to severe myocarditis resulting in death. Rhythm abnormalities, hypotension, arrhythmias, myocarditis, myocardial depression with symptoms of heart failure and shock, and pericarditis have been reported. Involvement of multiple organs, as well as the presence of metabolic derangement, can further confuse the picture.

Results: In the present study, It was found that significant Pearson's correlation between age of diabetics and diastolic changes in ECHO, and serum creatinine and diastolic changes in ECHO. The rest of the parameters like blood urea, blood pressure, RBS, FBS, PPBS, and duration of diabetes were not significantly correlated. Conclusion: It was concluded that in the present study, diabetes mellitus is itself a risk factor for developing diastolic dysfunction though its prevalence increases with increasing age, serum creatinine and there is no association found between duration of diabetes and diastolic dysfunction. So screening of every young normotensive diabetic for diastolic dysfunction should be done to prevent early cardiovascular disease.

Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is commonly used and is essential for diagnosing thyroid diseases. Despite its widespread use, it presents a significant barrier for doctors who lack experience with this procedure, owing to the inherent difficulty involved in identifying and avoiding venous arteries such as the internal jugular vein, common carotid artery, and trachea. At this stage, a universal neck simulator supporting FNAC practice has yet to be developed. This project is based on an earlier simulator developed by the authors. However, a number of significant improvements have been made to bring this closer to what could be potentially a practical simulator for thyroid FNAC practice. Narrative and Dialogical therapies have introduced concepts and techniques derived from theories of Narration and Conversation in our therapeutic arsenal; but they have focused basically on past stories and conversations guided by those. In this paper we postulate that the therapeutic history, the history not-yet-lived is still the one that is oriented towards the future based on the events that occur during the therapy itself. The Logic of the Narration and the Argumental Logic of the Conversation are the tools available to the therapist to situate themselves before the Events that take place during therapy and before the Echoes that awaken in other conversations that take place during the course of it, to assist in the process of finding the best possible ending for the story given the circumstances. In the present paper these Narrative and Conversational logics are developed and illustrated with the help of clinical material., Las terapias Narrativas y Dialógicas han introducido en nuestro arsenal terapéutico conceptos y técnicas derivados de las teorías de la Narración y de la Conversación; pero se han enfocado básicamente hacia historias del pasado y conversaciones orientadas por ellas. En este trabajo postulamos que la historia terapéutica, la Historia no-vivida-todavía es la que se orienta hacia el futuro fundándose en los Acontecimientos que ocurren durante la propia terapia. Background: Anthracyclines represent the greatest risk for development of cardiotoxicity. Cardiotoxicity of anthracyclines may develop during the treatment (acute cardiotoxicity) and during the follow-up (chronic and late cardiotoxicity). Natriuretic peptides - Atrial Natriuretic Peptide (ANP), B-type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) and N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-pro-BNP) are released by myocardium in response to wall strain and pressure overload. The applicability of natriuretic peptides (ANP, BNP, NT-pro-BNP) as markers for Anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity has been investigated only in a few studies and there is scarcity of data from India. Aims and Objectives: To observe correlation of NT-pro-BNP levels with cardiotoxicity in patients receiving doxorubicin. Methods and Materials: Eighty patients who were planned for treatment with Doxorubicin > 200 mg/m2 were included in this study. Each patient was assessed clinically (History, Pulse rate, Blood pressure) along with ECG, ECHO and NT-pro-BNP levels prior to initiation of chemotherapy, after completion of 200 mg/m2 of Doxorubicin, 3 months and 6 months after chemotherapy. Result: There were total of 80 patients in the study and they received a total of 384 cycles of Doxorubicin containing regimens according to respective protocols. The median number of cycles was four (range four to six cycles). The mean cumulative dose of doxorubicin was 267.75 mg/m2. As none of the patients developed any cardiac symptoms during or after the planned chemotherapy nor was there a drop in Ejection Fraction on serial ECHO, correlation with BNP levels was not possible. There were 4 patients who had very high values of NT-pro-BNP (>300 pg/ml) and 4 patients with moderate elevation of NT-pro-BNP (200-300 pg/ml) prior to the initiation of chemotherapy. 14 patients had serially increasing values of NT-pro-BNP in the 6 months follow-up. The article presents the main theoretical approaches to the use of terms such as soft power and humanitarian diplomacy. The analysis uses the narrower term “humanitarian assistance” because of its inclusion in the sphere of humanitarian diplomacy, and the frequent use of concepts as equal in the English discourse. The author analyzes the effectiveness of the EU’s humanitarian assistance, citing data on EU humanitarian aid operations. The results indicate that humanitarian assistance programmes cannot be halted; on the contrary, there is a need to increase funding and the interest of more countries and people in this problem., В статье представлены основные теоретические подходы к использованию таких терминов, как мягкая сила и гуманитарная дипломатия. При анализе используется более узкий термин «гуманитарная помощь» из-за его включения в сферу гуманитарной дипломатии, и частого использования в англоязычном дискурсе понятий как равноправных. Автор анализирует эффективность деятельности ЕС по оказанию гуманитарной помощи, приводя данные об операциях ЕС по гуманитарной помощи. Полученные результаты говорят о невозможности прекращения программ гуманитарной помощи, наоборот, необходимо повышение финансирования и заинтересованности большего числа стран и людей в этой проблеме.

En el presente trabajo se ha procedido a determinar el umbral de percepción del eco a un grupo de personas. Este estudio se ha realizado a un grupo de sujetos de diferentes edades, con y sin conocimientos de música, y ambos sexos. A partir de este análisis y de los datos obtenidos se procederá a determinar, si es posible, si el umbral de eco depende de la frecuencia y de qué manera y si existen diferencias entre el sexo de las personas, edades y formación musical. El análisis de la dependencia frecuencial del umbral de eco consistirá en un estudio psicoacústico realizado con una aplicación desarrollada a través de entorno de Matlab. El estudio consiste en la escucha de dos eventos sonoros (dos ruidos) repetidos con retardos diferentes todos ellos en siete frecuencias diferentes (250, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 y 8000 Hz). Los resultados confirman que el umbral de eco presenta variaciones en función de la frecuencia a la que se emiten los sonidos y éste realiza una curva esperada, es decir, a frecuencias cercanas a las que el oído es más sensible, es más fácil distinguir que hay eco. En cuanto a la respuesta sobre si existen diferencias entre el sexo de las personas, edades y formación musical, no se pueden extraer conclusiones muy precisas., In the present work we have proceeded to determine the threshold of perception of the echo to a group of people. The results confirm that the echo threshold has variations depending on the frequency at which the sounds are emitted and this makes an expected curve, that is, at frequencies close to which the ear is more sensitive, it is easier to distinguish that there is echo. As for the answer about whether there are differences between the sex of people, ages and musical training, you can not draw very precise conclusions.

A time of flight MIEZE spectrometer, which employs radio frequency spin flippers with square pole shoes and a magnetic yoke is presented. These flippers can achieve higher fields than conventional resonant RF flippers, which employ an air core. High fields are crucial for the construction of a high resolution and compact MIEZE spectrometer. Setups using conventional and novel flippers are constructed for comparison and a variety of experiments to characterize MIEZE instruments. Evidence is presented which indicates that high field flippers are capable of generating a 100kHz MIEZE signal comparable to that obtained with a conventional setup. Furthermore the need for a fast and thin detector is demonstrated. In addition the shape of the MIEZE focal spot is determined to be Gaussian. Finally the importance of stable timing for time of flight MIEZE is demonstrated. Reliance on mobile connectivity has led to demands for wireless spectrum capacity to grow on a daily basis resulting to congested networks. Ensuring acceptable levels of Quality of Service (QoS) for users in wireless communication systems, through continuous wireless network analysis using simulation tools based on radio propagation models has become increasingly prominent. To provide automated analytical model building, the use of machine learning methods has been considered to predict characteristics of the wireless channel. Thus, in this work, a method for predicting radio signal strength using Echo State Networks (ESNs) is proposed and applied to three different locations in Northern Namibia. This method aims at providing a better approach for radio signal strength prediction, which leads to improvements in wireless communication planning, design and analysis. Its performance is compared with the Support Vector Regression (SVR) method optimized for radio propagation modeling. Simulations are conducted in Python using propagation data measured from the three locations based on the following four performance metrics: goodness of fit criteria; error measures; computation complexities; and F-Test for statistical model comparison. Simulation results show that the ESN gives a better prediction accuracy in terms of the goodness of fit criteria and the error measures (i.e. average R2 = 0.82 and average mean absolute error (MAE) = 0.0312 for ESN compared to 0.648 and 0.0624 for SVR), but it is inferior to the SVR in terms of computation complexities (i.e. average training complexity of 410 ms and average testing complexity of 79.0 ms for ESN compared to 8.19 ms and 1.04 ms for SVR). To provide automated analytical model building, the use of machine learning methods has been considered to predict characteristics of the wireless channel. Thus, in this work, a method for predicting radio signal strength using Echo State Networks (ESNs) is proposed and applied to three different locations in Northern Namibia. This method aims at providing a better approach for radio signal strength prediction, which leads to improvements in wireless communication planning, design and analysis. Its performance is compared with the Support Vector Regression (SVR) method optimized for radio propagation modeling. Simulations are conducted in Python using propagation data measured from the three locations based on the following four performance metrics: goodness of fit criteria; error measures; computation complexities; and F-Test for statistical model comparison. Wenn Echo spricht, so tut sie dies in und nach Ovids 'Metamorphosen' tropisch, in einer Rede-Figur der Wiederholung, die die Arbitrarität der Rede vorstellt. Diese artikuliert sich in der Trope, als die das Echo sich zeigt, und sie manifestiert sich in Echo als Figur des Gedächtnisses, als die Echo auf Fama, Ruf und Gerücht, hin auslegbar wurde. Echo und ihre Echos figurieren die Bezogenheit auf, genauer die Abhängigkeit jeder Rede von vorausgehender Rede, von den Reden der anderen, die wieder- und weitergesprochen werden.

Die Praxis des Echos, die ich betrachte, ist als die der Echo eine textuelle. Ovids 'Metamorphosen' erzählen von Echo in der Narziss-Episode in Buch III. Mit Echo und Narziss führen die 'Metamorphosen' Spiegelung und Widerhall als zwei Modi der Wiederholung und der Doppelung zusammen - und gegeneinander: die Doppelung als Verkehrung und die Wiederholung als Verschiebung und Verkürzung. Die eine gibt die 'imago' eines vermeintlich anderen Raums, um diesen zugleich zu verstellen, (durch deren Oberfläche) zu sperren. Die andere schließt die vermeintliche Gegenwart des Hörens an die Ferne unbestimmter anderer Zeiten an, aus der die Echos kommen.

A time of flight MIEZE spectrometer, which employs radio frequency spin flippers with square pole shoes and a magnetic yoke is presented. These flippers can achieve higher fields than conventional resonant RF flippers, which employ an air core. High fields are crucial for the construction of a high resolution and compact MIEZE spectrometer. Setups using conventional and novel flippers are constructed for comparison and a variety of experiments to characterize MIEZE instruments. Evidence is presented which indicates that high field flippers are capable of generating a 100kHz MIEZE signal comparable to that obtained with a conventional setup. Furthermore the need for a fast and thin detector is demonstrated. In addition the shape of the MIEZE focal spot is determined to be Gaussian. Finally the importance of stable timing for time of flight MIEZE is demonstrated. Si trois textes d’Anne Hébert ont été adaptés à l’écran, il s’agit d’expliquer les raisons de l’intérêt de Claude Jutra, d’Yves Simoneau et de Simon Lavoie pour ces derniers en particulier. L’analyse thématique et stylistique des nombreux bruits et voix dans les hypotextes démontrera qu’ils les transmuent en poèmes, au potentiel hautement adaptatif. À partir de cette première analyse, nous verrons comment les hyperfilms transcréent ces phénomènes, parfois littéralement, parfois en se détachant dramatiquement de l’original. L’analyse de la bande-son sera particulièrement édifiante, car, alors que nous observons une quasi-absence de musiques d’écran, se multiplient à l’infini des enregistrements en tous genres (acouphènes, cris d’oiseaux, cataractes) qui forcent le spectateur à réinterpréter ces textes phares, à parcourir des sentiers jusque-là inexplorés.

[EN] This study has worked in the perception of echo in four different frequencies, 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz, and with different time delays to study the echo threshold. The results indicated that the echo threshold varies depending on the frequencies used, but also in terms of age and different disciplines instrumental musicians that have been analyzed., [ES] En este estudio se ha trabajado en la percepción del eco en cuatro frecuencias distintas: 500, 1000, 2000 y 4000 Hz, y con retardos temporales distintos para estudiar el umbral de eco. Los resultados han indicado que el umbral de eco varia en función de las frecuencias utilizadas, pero también en función de la edad y de las diferentes disciplinas instrumentales de los músicos que han sido analizados.
