Abstract

Crop multi-model ensembles (MME) have proven to be effective in increasing the accuracy of simulations in modelling experiments. However, the ability of MME to capture crop responses to changes in sowing dates and densities has not yet been investigated. These management interventions are some of the main levers for adapting cropping systems to climate change. Here, we explore the performance of a MME of 29 wheat crop models to predict the effect of changing sowing dates and rates on yield and yield components, on two sites located in a high-yielding environment in New Zealand. The experiment was conducted for 6 years and provided 50 combinations of sowing date, sowing density and growing season. We show that the MME simulates seasonal growth of wheat well under standard sowing conditions, but fails under early sowing and high sowing rates. The comparison between observed and simulated in-season fraction of intercepted photosynthetically active radiation (FIPAR) for early sown wheat shows that the MME does not capture the decrease of crop above ground biomass during winter months due to senescence. Models need to better account for tiller competition for light, nutrients, and water during vegetative growth, and early tiller senescence and tiller mortality, which are exacerbated by early sowing, high sowing densities, and warmer winter temperatures.

Abstract

The dataset contains 6 growing seasons of a local winter wheat cultivar ‘Wakanui’ at two farms located in the Canterbury Region of New Zealand. The data of the experiment was used in the AgMIP-Wheat Phase 4 project to evaluate the performance of an ensemble of 29 crop models to predict the effect of changing sowing dates and rates on yield and yield components, in a high-yielding environment. The treatments were managed for non-stress conditions. Data include local daily weather, soil characteristics and initial soil N conditions, crop measurements (anthesis and maturity dates, total above-ground biomass, final grain yield, and yield components), and cultivar information. Simulations include both daily in-season and end-of-season results from 29 wheat crop models.

Abstract

El siguiente proyecto está planteado con el objetivo de diseñar un nuevo proceso de tipo Drive-thru para un supermercado, para lo cual, se realizó la identificación de los procesos operacionales actuales del supermercado Cañaveral en la ciudad de Cali, los procesos y actividades del restaurante de comidas rápidas Mc Donalds que es reconocido por su sistema Automac, con la finalidad de analizar cómo integrar el proceso de Drive-thru con los procesos operacionales del supermercado. Finalmente se realiza un análisis de la capacidad del supermercado, donde se identifican los recursos que tiene el supermercado y los recursos faltantes para su implementación y posteriormente determinar los costos de inversión y operativos para determinar la factibilidad económica del proyecto. La principal herramienta usada en el desarrollo del proyecto, es la caracterización de procesos, utilizándose para describir el funcionamiento de un supermercado común de la localidad. Dentro de la caracterización de los procesos se realizan diagramas de flujo que ayudan a entender de forma visual los procesos que se desean cambiar y las actividades que se implementan para lograr el objetivo de disminuir el tiempo de clientes en establecimientos de ventas detallistas. Abstract

El siguiente proyecto está planteado con el objetivo de diseñar un nuevo proceso de tipo Drive-thru para un supermercado, para lo cual, se realizó la identificación de los procesos operacionales actuales del supermercado Cañaveral en la ciudad de Cali, los procesos y actividades del restaurante de comidas rápidas Mc Donalds que es reconocido por su sistema Automac, con la finalidad de analizar cómo integrar el proceso de Drive-thru con los procesos operacionales del supermercado. Finalmente se realiza un análisis de la capacidad del supermercado, donde se identifican los recursos que tiene el supermercado y los recursos faltantes para su implementación y posteriormente determinar los costos de inversión y operativos para determinar la factibilidad económica del proyecto. La principal herramienta usada en el desarrollo del proyecto, es la caracterización de procesos, utilizándose para describir el funcionamiento de un supermercado común de la localidad. Dentro de la caracterización de los procesos se realizan diagramas de flujo que ayudan a entender de forma visual los procesos que se desean cambiar y las actividades que se implementan para lograr el objetivo de disminuir el tiempo de clientes en establecimientos de ventas detallistas. Abstract

Genotype list (GL) Strings use a set of hierarchical character delimiters to represent allele and genotype ambiguity in HLA and KIR genotypes in a complete and accurate fashion. A RESTful web service called genotype list service was created to allow users to register a GL string and receive a unique identifier for that string in the form of a URI. By exchanging URIs and dereferencing them through the GL service, users can easily transmit HLA genotypes in a variety of useful formats. The GL service was developed to be secure, scalable, and persistent. An instance of the GL service is configured with a nomenclature and can be run in strict or non-strict modes. Strict mode requires alleles used in the GL string to be present in the allele database using the fully qualified nomenclature. Non-strict mode allows any GL string to be registered as long as it is syntactically correct. The GL service source code is free and open source software, distributed under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL) version 3 or later.

Cataloged from PDF version of thesis., Includes bibliographical references (p. 52-54)., Rapid manufacturing is a family of technologies that employ additive layer deposition techniques to construct parts from computer based design models.[2] These parts can then be used as prototypes or finished goods. One type of rapid manufacturing technology, Selective Laser Sintering, only allows for a point-by-point sintering process to construct the 3D representations of CAD models. This makes for long processing periods and is ineffective for high volume manufacturing. However, a new process called high-speed sintering uses infrared energy to 'flash' the polymer powder at multiple points making the layer deposition process much more time efficient. In effect each infusion of energy results in an entire layer being constructed rather than a single point. One of the first industrial applications for this technique is in performance footwear manufacturing. New Balance, a Boston based shoe and apparel company, in collaboration with Loughborough University has an interest in exploring the technology for low volume parts manufacturing as well as personalized footwear. High speed sintering has the potential to replace injection molding for specific footwear and non-footwear applications. This technology has several key advantages over injection molding including the ability to build complex geometries that would be impossible with injection molding. Also as the technology continues to evolve new materials could improve the mechanical performance of finished parts. Nevertheless, as with commercializing any new technology identifying a cost effective implementation route is a pivotal step., (cont.) This project addressed this concern by thoroughly investigating the current and potential state of high speed sintering. The manufacture of a New Balance shoe part using both high speed sintering and injection molding was directly compared. Abstract

This is a FORTRAN-based computer graphics system designed for interactive use on a wide variety of computer graphics terminals. Due to its comprehensive and modular design, GCS provides a simplified easy to learn and easy to use approach to computer graphics, while simultaneously providing a powerful tool which the sophisticated programmer may use for demanding and highly interactive graphical applications. GCS provides compatibility at two distinct levels: (a) Cross-compatibility from one computer system to another; and (b) Cross-compatibility between computer graphics terminals. Cross-compatibility from one terminal to another has been achieved in a manner which is completely transparent to the user. One need no longer be concerned about the problems of 'tailoring' his programs for a given graphical device--GCS provides the maximum capabilities offered by the various terminals in order to satisfy the user's graphical requirements.
