Većina oboljelih imala je blaži oblik bolesti, a dva bolesnika (9,5 %) su razvila kolestatski hepatitis, A retrospective study conducted at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases of the University Hospital Center Rijeka in the period from 2010 to 2019 included 21 patients with hepatitis A. The infection was proven serologically by the presence of IgM antibodies specific for the HAV. The age range of patients was six to 70 years, and the majority of patients (approximately one quarter) were middle-aged (40 - 49 years). In the period from 2010 to 2016, 0 - 1 patients with hepatitis A were treated annually, while in 2017 and 2018, 16 patients were treated, most of whom were men. In addition to the feco-oral route of transmission, the major assumed route of transmission in our patients was the sexual route in the MSM population. The epidemic of 2017 and 2018 in our patients is part of the hepatitis A epidemic that occurred in the countries of the European Union with the largest number of patients among younger men from the MSM population. Most patients had a milder form of the disease, and two patients (9.5 %) developed cholestatic hepatitis.
