Transmesosigmoid hernia (TMSH), an emergency abdominal condition, is a type of internal hernia (IH) that involves the sigmoid mesocolon; its clinical symptoms are non-specific, so clinically its preoperative diagnosis is usually difficult. Here, we report a case of TMSH in which multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) clearly showed penetration of the small-bowel with its mesenteric fat tissue and mesenteric vessels through a complete defect in the sigmoid mesocolon. These MDCT findings accurately reflected the direct findings of this rare type of IH, so we were confident in the preoperative diagnosis.

This paper is the first to define a conceptual design of a fusion power complex with hydrogen storage capability in a superconducting magnet system using cryogenic hydrogen. The fusion power complex realizes a carbon-neutral society by combining a large-capacity power source of renewable energy with the flexibility of energy output. Therefore, the proposed design is positioned as one of the most important next-generation power sources.

The purpose of this study is to conduct a geographical analysis on the location strategy of “plant factories,” which have shown remarkable growth among “firms’ entering into agriculture” in Japan in recent years. The number of companies entering into agriculture has seen a sharp increase in Japan in the last 10 years after the revision of the Agricultural Land Act in 2009. Especially, the number of firms that build large-scale facilities to produce vegetables has increased drastically. Looking at the distribution of plant factories in Japan, it is evident that many plant factories are located in the regions that agriculture was damaged after the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 (Miyagi, Fukushima, etc.), the regions that local governments make efforts to invite agribusiness (Hokkaido, Oita, etc.), and the regions that are not suitable for vegetable production due to weather conditions (prefectures like Niigata and Okinawa). On the whole, it can be said that the location of plant factories in Japan has noticeably shifted toward rural areas in the last 10 years. Regarding the type of facility, management, and production items of these plant factories, the largest area is occupied by solar plant factories managed by farming corporations, and the highest produced item is tomatoes. In other words, it would be most effective to study the case of a plant factory that uses solar power to produce tomatoes in order to understand the regional effects of plant factories in Japan. Therefore, in this paper, we took up the entry of Kagome Co., Ltd. (hereafter, abbreviated as Kagome) into agriculture as a case study and performed a detailed analysis. Kagome has been opening plant factories all over the country since the 2000s to produce fresh tomatoes. However, it was found that soliciting the efforts of local governments to resolve the issue of depopulation had influenced Kagome’s location strategy of plant factories. Therefore, Mihara village in Kochi prefecture, being one such area, was chosen for conducting a case study. The results of the study indicated the regional impact of Kagome’s entry into Mihara village to be as follows: (1) an increase in agricultural output, (2) the creation of local employment, and (3) the transformation of the rural landscape. On the other hand, the results also indicated that Kagome acts independent of the local JA and farmers, which is a deviation from the framework of local agriculture. Moreover, Kagome uses unskilled or manualized techniques for the harvesting operations in these plant factories, which makes it difficult for its employees to acquire sufficient farming skills. The maintenance scheme in the compact helical fusion reactor, FFHR-c1, equipped with the liquid metal divertor, REVOLVER-D (Reactor-oriented Effectively VOLumetric VERtical Divertor) and the cartridge-type molten salt blankets, CARDISTRY-B (CARtridges Divided and InSerTed RadiallY − Blanket), is investigated. The magnetic configuration of the compact variant FFHR-c1 is similar to that of the Large Helical Device (LHD), while the device size is 2.8 times enlarged from LHD and a strong magnetic field strength of ∼8 T at the plasma center is adopted. The maintenance of the REVOLVER-D is simpler than that of the helical divertor with a complicated structure as seen in the LHD. In the REVOLVER-D, showers of molten tin are injected into the ergodic layer at 10 inner ports. To circulate the molten tin, 10 sets of the shower system including a liquid metal pump, ducts, a showerhead, a pool, and a heat exchanger, are installed. These can be replaced with simple up/down motions. The CARDISTRY-B consists of 320 tritium breeding blanket cartridges, which are toroidally segmented every two degrees. These cartridges are maintained by using heavy manipulators with a simple 4DOF motion at a constant toroidal angle.

Electrochemical formation of a Ca-Si film in a molten CaCl2-KCl at 923 K was investigated. Potentiostatic electrolysis of a Si electrode at −0.10 V for 1 h resulted in the formation of a multiphase Ca-Si film having a thickness of about 30 μm. The Ca-Si film was converted into other alloy phases by anodic potentiostatic electrolysis after the cathodic electrodeposition of Ca metal at −0.10 V. The various transformation reactions and the corresponding equilibrium potentials were clarified. At 923 K, the equilibrium potential was found to be 0.18 V (CaSi2). Reflectance measurements in the ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared region clarified that the CaSi2 film has a direct bandgap of 3.1 eV.

A cost model for a tokamak fusion power plant (FPP) is improved to evaluate material cost and manufacture cost, separately. Then, the improved cost model is applied to a commercial tokamak FPP, and reduction of FPP construction cost is investigated considering learning effect on manufacture of the fusion island part and the advanced manufacture of toroidal field (TF) coils. Finally, a development scenario of a tokamak FPP is proposed to contribute substantially to global climate stabilization under the framework of the Paris Agreement.

The gravitational level effect has been recognized in the uniformity of PL characteristics of electrodeposited ZnO nanowire arrays. Amorphous Si thin film has been also electrodeposited in ionic liquid(TMHATFSI-0.1MSiCl4) as well as PC organic electrolyte. Based on these achievements, the electrodeposition of Si nanowire is now challenging. Amorphous SiO2 powder refined from diatomaceous earth (DE-SiO2, 5N in purity) are pressed into pellets, and the electrolytic reduction of them is investigated in molten CaCl2 at 1123 K. DE-SiO2 pellets are successfully reduced to Si at 1.00 and 1.20 V vs. Ca(2+)/Ca. Rod-like nanostructure is observed in SEM of reduced Si sample. Furthermore, the reduction rate of DE-SiO2 pellet is higher than that for fumed-SiO2 pellet. Actual heating systems have not been considered yet for reaching the ignition regime in FFHR helical reactor. Although NBI heating is a first candidate to access the low density and high temperature ignition regime, it is uncertain whether such system can be used to access the high density and low temperature ignition regime. In this work the foreseeable NBI energy of ~1.5 MeV is assumed and examined for reaching both ignition regimes in the FFHR. Together with the stabilizing technique of the thermal instability by the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control algorithm based on the fusion power, we propose the new operation scenario to access the high-density ignition regime using neutral beam heating system with ~1.5 MeV energy. In this new scenario the density is kept at the low value less than ~4x10^〈20〉m^〈-3〉 to ensure the neutral beam penetration and the operating point passes near the saddle point on Plasma Operation Contour (POPCON) map. Above the density of 4x10^〈20〉m^〈-3〉, high-density ignition is accessed by alpha heating after turning off NBI injection.

Thermal properties of alkali bis(fluorosulfonyl)amides, MFSA (M = Li, K, Cs), have been investigated. Binary phase diagrams of LiFSA-KFSA, LiFSA-CsFSA and KFSA-CsFSA systems have been constructed. The eutectic point for the binary systems are 338 K at (xLi, xK) = (0.45, 0.55), 331 K at (xLi, xCs) = (0.40, 0.60) and 333 K at (xK, xCs) = (0.60, 0.40). The eutectic point for the ternary LiFSA-KFSA-CsFSA system is 309 K at a nearly equimolar composition. The electrochemical window of the LiFSA-KFSA at 348 K and LiFSA-KFSA-CsFSA at 325 K are as wide as 6.0 V with the cathode limit being lithium metal deposition. These new inorganic ionic liquids are highly promising for various electrochemical applications.

The integrated transport analysis suite, TASK3D-a (Analysis), has been developed to be capable for routine whole-discharge analyses of plasmas confined in three-dimensional (3D) magnetic configurations such as the LHD. The routine dynamic energy balance analysis for NBI-heated plasmas was made possible in the first version released in September 2012. The suite has been further extended through implementing additional modules for neoclassical transport and ECH deposition for 3D configurations. A module has also been added for creating systematic data for the International Stellarator–Heliotron Confinement and Profile Database. Improvement of neutral beam injection modules for multiple-ion species plasmas and loose coupling with a large-simulation code are also highlights of recent developments.

The Fusion Engineering Research Project (FERP) at the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS) is conducting conceptual design activities for the LHD-type helical fusion reactor FFHR-d1A. This paper newly defines two design options, 'basic' and 'challenging.' Conservative technologies, including those that will be demonstrated in ITER, are chosen in the basic option in which two helical coils are made of continuously wound cable-in-conduit superconductors of Nb3Sn strands, the divertor is composed of water-cooled tungsten monoblocks, and the blanket is composed of water-cooled ceramic breeders. In contrast, new ideas that would possibly be beneficial for making the reactor design more attractive are boldly included in the challenging option in which the helical coils are wound by connecting high-temperature REBCO superconductors using mechanical joints, the divertor is composed of a shower of molten tin jets, and the blanket is composed of molten salt FLiNaBe including Ti powers to increase hydrogen solubility. The main targets of the challenging option are early construction and easy maintenance of a large and three-dimensionally complicated helical structure, high thermal efficiency, and, in particular, realistic feasibility of the helical reactor.

The required pumping power for the liquid metal ergodic limiter/divertor REVOLVER-D (Reactor-oriented Effectively VOLumetric VERtical Divertor), which is considered as an optional divertor design for the LHD-type helical fusion reactor FFHR-d1, has been estimated with a consideration of the change in the strength of transverse magnetic field along the flow channel. It is found that the pressure drop and the required pumping power can be suppressed to an acceptable level by using insulated ducts.

The purpose of this paper is to clarify how the broiler meat production areas in India can remarkably develop, from the viewpoint of economic geography. The results of this analysis are summarized as follows. In India, the meat production structure has changed since the mid-1980s. Concretely, the production quantity of chicken has drastically increased and the chicken sector has become the largest meat sector in India as of 2003. The main cause of this development is the achievement in arranging broiler meat production and distribution systems in India since the mid-1980s. After the mid-1980s, the broiler raising areas have rapidly expanded from southern and eastern India to northern India. In the newly formed broiler raising areas, the raising ratios of improved broiler chicks tend to be high. Namely, it is clear that the development of broiler raising in India is largely dependent on the acceptance of improved broiler chicks. With this expansion of broiler raising areas in India, the broiler hatcheries played very important roles. The Indian chicken sector has few processors, so the hatcheries largely affect the vertical integration of broiler meat production. Actually, from a survey in Haryana state in Dec. 2003, it is clear that the broiler growers procure their chicks from the hatcheries, and ship their grown birds to live bird markets.
