The narrative we find in TV advertisement especially abounds in scientific terms that the viewers hardly understand. The apparently ‘scientific’ language induces them to believe in the modern myth of science as absolute truth, which inevitably produces alienation from reality. The more such language triumphs, the more alienation they suffer without knowing it. Such is our situation today that reminds us of the time of Nazi in which alienating language was dominant. However, whether the use of scientific language on TV advertisement becomes alienating or not depends on the socio-cultural context of the viewers. For example, in Japan where the tradition gives more power and space to the ‘signifiant’ than the ‘signifié’, scientific terms used in advertisement are not necessarily meant to indicate ‘truth’ but just play the role of fascinating signifiants that stimulate the viewers’ dream of paradise, of a wonderland. Those viewers momentarily impersonate ‘the modern Westerners’, enjoying the participation in a collective dream which gives them much pleasure. If they purchase the advertised product, it is not because they believe its effect is scientifically proved but because it invites them to share the collective dream stimulated by the advertisement. One may say it is a semiotic paradox for the ununderstandable makes sense in their mind.

Da bi ugotovili, katere lastnosti izvornega govora se imitator odloči posnemati in do kolikšne mere se imitator trudi ter uspe imitirati govor imitiranega govorca, smo v programu Praat analizirali število premorov, iz česar je sledila primerjalna analiza hitrosti govora in artikulacije. Primerjali smo tudi vrednosti osnovnega tona F0, na podlagi katerega smo primerjali register. Glede na vrednosti formantov F3 in F4, torej tistih, ki kažejo na odprtost ustne votline, pa smo poskušali primerjati, kako je imitatorju uspelo posnemati barvo glasu. In the bachelor's thesis, we focused on the prosodic analysis of an interview with Janez Janša for Nova24TV, recorded in 2017. We also analysed two impersonations of the said speaker by Sašo Hribar for the Radio Ga Ga radio show, both recorded in 2020. To understand which characteristics of the original speech the impersonator chose to impersonate, and to which degree the imitator tries and succeeds in imitating the speech of the chosen speaker, we analysed the number of pauses using the program Praat. Continuing, we conducted a comparative analysis of speech rate and articulation rate. We then proceeded with the analysis of the F0 formant to indicate the voice pitch. Taking the values of the F3 and F4 formants, which indicate the openness of the oral cavity, into account, we attempted to compare how well the imitator copied the timbre of the original speaker.

The article discusses an artistic method of the post-Soviet artist Vlad Mamyshev-Monroe (1969–2013) as the nexus of several traditions embedded in modernist legacy. His main genre is remastered (scratched) photographs depicting him impersonating various historical and fictional characters, from Marylyn Monroe (whom he considered his alter ego) to Hitler, Jesus Christ, and Putin. His art and artistically designed image creatively develop the tradition of modernist life-creation (zhiznetvorchestvo), which he enriches by camp, thus becoming a pioneer of this elusive sensibility in post-Soviet culture. Camp, in turn, facilitates Mamyshev-Monroe’s self-fashioning as the trickster whose transgressivity and ambivalence absorb his queerness and drag spectacles, and whose hyperperformativity manifests itself in his performative art. The article analyzes how Mamyshev-Monroe appropriates various cultural material in the trickster’s way by using camp for its critique and deconstruction. The case of Mamyshev-Monroe is especially important since it demonstrates the limits of the trickster’s transgression that resists its instrumentalization by the authoritarian state.

The application of the concepts of unfair competition in Indonesia’s Trademark Law is one of the reasons as a proper solution in providing justification and argumentation basis, in terms of to answer the issue of impersonation of trademarks on different kinds goods, particularly for impersonation of domestic well known mark obtains sufficient legal basis due to the existence of protection and legal certainty for the trademark owner which is impersonated thereof. The current Indonesia trademark law basically only provide trademark lawsuit in terms of cancellation for registered mark; legal damages claim. Both lawsuits related to using unauthorized registered mark based on overall or basic similarities in the same kind of goods, although unauthorized use in different kind of good is possible to be sued but it is restricted for international well-known mark only. In addition there is such trademark lawsuit in connection with deletion registered mark means this proceeding enforce when the registered mark does not use for three years as of the mark registered. Considering that actually the concept of unfair competition basically reflect to the understanding of unlawful act (tort) which stating in the article 1365 Indonesia’s Civil Code. However, this understanding is not covered in Indonesia’s Trademark law instead of it is enforced in Indonesia’s civil law and civil procedure. Hence, if there is a trademark impersonation dispute in the different kinds of goods, the resolution of the dispute will refer to unlawful act and that lawsuit will be trialed by regular district court, even though based on trademark law for trademark lawsuit should be trialed by commercial court. Therefore, it is lead to uncertainty in terms of the authorize court which is examined and handled the said case. To include the concept of unfair competition as a part of trademark violation into Indonesia’s trademark law hopefully enable to anticipate in reducing any kind of types trademark violation occurred including in the form of violation such impersonation of domestic well-known mark in different kind of goods. This research is normative legal research with a legislation, concept, and comparative approach. The legal material with technical analysis is done by the method of interpretation. Comparing to the concept of unfair competition, passing off within Indonesia’s trademark law; International Trademark Convention will answers whether the understanding of unfair competition applied in the trademark violation in Indonesia particularly in connection with the issues of impersonation towards registered of well-known mark domestically is already proper either for domestic or worldwide perspective.

International audience; The right to access is a great tool provided by the GDPR to empower data subjects with their data. However, it needs to be implemented properly otherwise it could turn subject access requests against the subjects privacy. Indeed, recent works have shown that it is possible to abuse the right to access using impersonation attacks. We propose to extend those impersonation attacks by considering that the adversary has an access to governmental resources. In this case, the adversary can forge official documents or exploit copy of them. Our attack affects more people than one may expect. To defeat the attacks from this kind of adversary, several solutions are available like multi-factors or proof of aliveness. Our attacks highlight the need for strong procedures to authenticate subject access requests.

Este artículo describe las principales características del proceso creativo de la imitación satírica de políticos y políticas. Los datos presentados se basan en 29 entrevistas en profundidad con miembros del equipo creativo del programa de televisión, Polònia, que desde 2006 se transmite semanalmente por la cadena pública catalana, TV3. Los artistas describen su trabajo de creación de personajes como una experiencia sensorial que es mediada por recuerdos de su memoria afectiva. Cuando se aproximan al político que deben imitar, actrices y actores buscan capturar las sensaciones físicas que esa observación ocasiona en sus cuerpos. Luego, conectan esas sensaciones con experiencias afectivas que se manifiestan en recuerdos familiares, estereotipos sociales, personajes de cultura popular, entre otros referentes. Un personaje de imitación política no es una copia del original, sino el ensamblaje de las sensaciones y recuerdos que estos políticos les inspiran a estos artistas. Esta forma de caracterizar el trabajo creativo de los imitadores resulta una novedad para la investigación en la comunicación política. Los estudios sobre humor político realizados en ese campo se han interesado principalmente en los efectos cognitivos que pueden causar en las audiencias, así como en analizar su contenido. This article describes the main features of a political impersonation crafting process. Data emerges from 29 in-depth interviews with artists producing Polònia, a TV show aired every week in Catalonia since 2006 by the public television network, TV3. The programme offers an account of current political affairs by impersonating the main political figures. Artists narrate their creative work as a sensorial experience that is mediated by their own affective memory. When they approach the politician to be impersonated, actors and actresses try to catch the bodily sensations that observation brings about. Then, those sensations are put together with previous affective experiences materialized in personal memories, social stereotypes or referents drawn from popular culture, among other elements. Impersonating a politician is not the production of a carbon copy out of the original, but the assemblage of sensations and memories that politicians inspire in the artists. This way of describing the creative process carried out by impersonators turns out to be a novelty in the field of political communication research. Studies about political humour have mainly focused on the cognitive effects these genres may cause on audiences as well as on the analysis of their content. Present study sheds light on the very first stages of this creative process, it does so by allowing producers to express themselves in their own words and it reveals the affective dimension of political communication.

Cyberbullying is a form of bullying meted out online using digital devices and platforms. This study investigated the types of cyberbullying undergraduate students in Kenyan universities experience. Specifically, it sought to determine the students' presence on Facebook, establish how the students used Facebook, identify the types of cyberbullying they experienced, and recommend strategies of mitigating cyberbullying as a means of making Facebook safer for undergraduate students in Kenya. The study was conducted using mixed research methods. Data was collected from 4770 undergraduate students and 24 deans of students in 16 public and 8 private chartered universities in Kenya. Quantitative data was collected from the students' using questionnaires while qualitative data was collected from students using focus group discussions and deans of students using key informant interviews. Quantitative data was analysed statistically using STATA while qualitative data was analysed thematically using ATLAS.ti. The findings of the study confirm the popularity of Facebook among undergraduate students in Kenya. Students use the platform mainly for dating, business, academics and politics. The main types of cyberbullying experienced by the students on Facebook include shaming, impersonation, blackmail, exposure and cyberstalking. In dealing with cyberbullying, university authorities should create awareness about the vice among their students; the affected students should be counselled to overcome the effects of cyberbullying; and students should be advised to be vigilant in cyberspace. The findings of this study may be applied by universities to develop a students' support service model that makes it easy to detect and mitigate cyberbullying.

The first Japanese person known to write and publish an American novel, Yone Noguchi disguises as a Japanese female diarist to counter the orientalist representations of Japanese cultural and feminine images in early twentieth-century United States. His impersonation in “The American Diary of a Japanese Girl”, however, results in a conflicting androgynous voice in which the male competes with the female, as well as in a number of contradictions that compromise characterization and plot development. Situating Noguchi in cultural and historical contexts, this essay examines his identity and reception as a translingual writer of English, and the contradictions found in the novel.

In this article, tradition is taken as a transition of past, ‘past that has been transited’ is being traditionalized with the narrative activity that depends on the repetition between generations. The subject of past being transited, is taken as a ‘memory’ issue by various opinions is not explained sufficiently in terms of oral culture. However, instead, we can mention about traditionalizing by a ritualistic narrative that is based on impersonation. From this view point, past, no matter how it is being thought as a mere ‘memory’ concept, it contains a cause of “reminding”, can be seen as an attempt of narrative impersonating the past in order to transit to next generations. Traditionalizing the past with a narrative can be possible with repetition. Repetition, attempts the narratives that’s part of the oral culture such as folktale, ballad, epic, epos etc. impersonate ritualistically to re-temporal the past in the present and allows it to inherit as a heritage of the former generation. In summary narrative, draws out the past from being only a “memory” context and prevents the past being forgotten with re-experiencing a lively “performance”.

This article offers an analysis of two theatrical productions that have graced the proscenium stage in India by utilizing an intersectional axis privileging gender nonconformity. It situates the destabilization of the category of impersonation, and the consequences that such a cleaving in theatricality effects on the public sphere. First, we look at Sharanya Ramprakash’s wildly popular play Akshayambara that draws on the traditional genre of Yakshagana whilst mediating and troubling binarizations of gender, class and caste. The second, Anuja Ghosalkar’s meditative documentary theatre production Lady Anandi, takes on an intimate rendition of the archive of her personal legacy as steeped in colonial theatre practice—of “female” impersonation on the colonial Bombay stage.

Events and circumstances that accompany crises such as losses of loved ones, losses of material resources, dislocation, or physical harm, have an overall negative impact on people's mental health. It is this impaired state of man which makes him vulnerable to manipulation of social engineers who wants to take advantage of him in order to enrich themselves. This was also the case of the COVID-19 pandemic, the unprecedented crisis in modern history, during which phishing and fraud campaigns rapidly increased as people have been forced to stay safe at home and spent most of a day online. This work analyzes the psychological strategies of cybercriminals on a sample of more than 200 phishing e-mails in order to understand how the situation was abused and what can be learnt to prevent it in the future. It also provides theoretical and research frameworks for researchers who can apply it also on other types of crises. The results contribute to the fields of psychology, cybercrime as well as crisis management. International audience; Impersonators on Online Social Networks such as Instagram are playing an important role in the propagation of the content. These entities are the type of nefarious fake accounts that intend to disguise a legitimate account by making similar profiles. In addition to having impersonated profiles, we observed a considerable engagement from these entities to the published posts of verified accounts. Toward that end, we concentrate on the engagement of impersonators in terms of active and passive engagements which is studied in three major communities including "Politician", "News agency", and "Sports star" on Instagram. Inside each community, four verified accounts have been selected. Based on implemented approach in our previous studies [1], we have collected 4.8K comments, and 2.6K likes across 566 posts created from 3.8K impersonators during 7 months. Our study shed light into this interesting phenomena and provides a surprising observation that can help us to understand better how impersonators engaging themselves inside Instagram in terms of writing Comments and leaving Likes.

Due to single-time registration, the multi-server authentication provides benefit for getting services from different servers through trusted agent. Generally, users feel hesitation for registering themselves individually with all service providers due to the problem of memorizing the multiple passwords. The multi-server authentication allows a quick access to services by real-time customer validation on public channel. Thereafter, hundreds of multi-server authentication protocols have been introduced. However, the more efficient and robust authentication schemes are being explored by the research academia. We introduce an anonymous scheme that resists the major security threats like impersonation attack, insider attack and password modification attacks in viable computing cost. We use random oracle model for formal security analysis of the proposed scheme. The performance analysis shows that the proposed scheme incurs less computation, energy, communication and storage cost as compared to related protocols. This analysis and comparison show that our proposed scheme is quite effective for the purpose of anonymous authentication and key agreement.

Bluetooth (BR/EDR) is a pervasive technology for wireless communication used by billions of devices. The Bluetooth standard includes a legacy authentication procedure and a secure authentication procedure, allowing devices to authenticate to each other using a long term key. Those procedures are used during pairing and secure connection establishment to prevent impersonation attacks. In this paper, we show that the Bluetooth specification contains vulnerabilities enabling to perform impersonation attacks during secure connection establishment. Such vulnerabilities include the lack of mandatory mutual authentication, overly permissive role switching, and an authentication procedure downgrade. We describe each vulnerability in detail, and we exploit them to design, implement, and evaluate master and slave impersonation attacks on both the legacy authentication procedure and the secure authentication procedure. We refer to our attacks as Bluetooth Impersonation AttackS (BIAS)., Our attacks are standard compliant, and are therefore effective against any standard compliant Bluetooth device regardless the Bluetooth version, the security mode (e.g., Secure Connections), the device manufacturer, and the implementation details. Our attacks are stealthy because the Bluetooth standard does not require to notify end users about the outcome of an authentication procedure, or the lack of mutual authentication. To confirm that the BIAS attacks are practical, we successfully conduct them against 31 Bluetooth devices (28 unique Bluetooth chips) from major hardware and software vendors, implementing all the major Bluetooth versions, including Apple, Qualcomm, Intel, Cypress, Broadcom, Samsung, and CSR.

The fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) is transforming the next generation of the supply chain by making it more agile and efficient compared with the traditional supply chain. However, data communication across the partners in the Industry 4.0 supply chain can be the target of a wide spectrum of attackers exploiting security breaches in the internal/external environment of the partners due to its heterogeneous and dynamic nature as well as the fact that the non-professional users in security issues usually operate their information systems. Attackers can compromise the data communication between legitimate parties in the Industry 4.0 Supply Chain, and thus, jeopardizing the delivery of services across the partners as well as the continuity of the service provision. Consequently, secure data communications across the partners in the Industry 4.0 Supply Chain are of utmost importance. Toward this direction, TLS protocol, which is the de facto standard for secure Internet communications, is employed to ensure secure communication between a user's web browser and a remote web server located in the premises of the same or another partner. However, over the last few years, there have been several serious attacks on TLS, including man-in-the-middle attacks in web applications using TLS to secure HTTP communication. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an efficient TLS-based authentication mechanism, which is resistant against MITM in web applications.

A web service impersonation is a class of attacks in which an attacker poses as or assumes the identity of a legitimate service to maliciously utilize that service’s privileges. Providing security for interacting cloud services requires more than user authentication with passwords or digital certificates and confidentiality in data transmission. In this paper, we focus on the service cloud model, which facilitates the composition and communication among web services owned by different cloud vendors. We develop a distributed mechanism to detect and mitigate impersonation attacks against web services in the cloud. The detection approach monitors the behavior of each service and identifies anomalies as a potential impersonation attack if it deviates significantly from the expected behavior. To verify the impersonation attack, we deploy a cloud-based verification technique, misleading suspicious services with useless responses. The experimental results show that modeling request behavior reliably detects a significant number of impersonation attempts, with a performance degradation that is a reasonable trade-off.

This essay stages a philosophical dialogue between one of Plato’s earliest and shortest works, Ion, and Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe’s deconstructive reflections on Diderot’s paradox of the actor. It takes the rhapsodic practice of the ancient figure of Ion as a reference point for thinking about the performer’s intoxicating nature and investigates its philosophical, bodily and psychological implications as well as its critical potential. It will proceed in three stages. The first part takes a detailed look at the absolute focal point of Ion, namely the analogy between the rhapsode’s intoxication and the Heraclean lodestone. The second part addresses the ‘logic’ of the magnet specifically from Ion’s point of view, which entails a critique of Socrates’ assumption of Ion being ‘out of his wits’ when he performs. Starting from the imperative to not just read, but to speak lyric poems out loud, this paper considers ways in which poems change depending on who utters them. Beyond the familiar distinction between the poem's author and the lyrical “I” — the voice in which the poet chooses to utter the poem — any performer who speaks a poem also impersonates the text. Reading is the first act of interpretation; others follow. Sound is an indispensable constitutive aspect of the lyric poem, too often neglected. Each reading of a poem can turn into a momentary ec-stasis.

In the opening of Plautus’ Casina the interpolated (?) prologue warns the audience: ‘in case you’re waiting for [Euthynicus], he isn’t returning to the city in this comedy today. Plautus didn’t want him to, he demolished a bridge on his way (64-66)’. euthynicus is the young lover of the play, com- peting with his father for an alluring slave-girl, the eponymous Casina. Casina too, despite (or because of?) her telic role as the craved object of the characters’ desire, was never allowed by plautus to cross into the world of the play. Casina and euthynicus are not alone: Roman comedy is populated by a crowd of missing characters, which the playwrights keep or move on the other side of the bridge, for parts or indeed the whole of the play. All these missing characters ‘benefit us in their absence as if they were present’, as the same prologue of Casina pro- claims (20), with reference to the most important absence of all, plautus himself. The aim of the article is to investigate the crowd of absentees in Roman comedy, starting from a close-reading of plautus’ Casina and focusing on a number of prototypical roles and fun- ctions, as well as discussing their contribution to the dramatic framework of Roman comedy. International audience; Fake accounts and Impersonators on Online Social Networks such as Instagram are turning difficulties for society. This has attended to an increasing interest in detecting fake profiles and investigating their behaviours. Questions like who are impersonators? what are their characteristics? and are they bots? will arise. To answer, we begin this research by collecting data from three important communities on Instagram including “Politician”, “News agency”, and “Sports star”. Inside each community, four verified top accounts are picked. Based on the users who reacted to their published posts, we detect 4K impersonators [1]. Then we employed well-known clustering methods to distribute impersonators into separated clusters to observe obscure behaviours and unusual profile characteristics. We also studied the cross-group analysis of clusters inside each community to explore engagements. Finally, we conclude the study by providing a complete investigation of the bot-like cluster

Drawing on Jacques Derrida’s rationality about the decentring force of language and texts, postcolonial theorist Homi Bhabha uses Derrida’s notion of dissemination as a telling metaphor for transcending the idea of boundaries. Bhabha avers that dissemination is ‘that moment of the scattering of the people that in other times and other places, in the nations of others, becomes a time of gathering’. His application of the notion of dissemination entails challenging notions of borders and historicity located in the idea of national identity. In this article, I explore the numerous ways in which dissemination is presented as a site for re-examination, refashioning and reinvention of the identity of the African protagonist in Dinaw Mengestu’s All Our Names . I critically analyse the sojourner conceit in the novel in the light of impersonation as a narrative technique that the author employs to exemplify how the trope of namelessness reflects and inscribes notions of nomadic and migrant identities. This theme is evident in the anguish and trauma of the dislocated subject’s search for belonging and for a sense of self-worth. This anguish is deepened by the racial fault lines that are also inscribed in the novel. I demonstrate that the problem of race performs a difficult task in the narrative, helping to expose ‘some of the ways in which the African other is excluded from dominant discourse and rendered invisible through the racially demarcated topography’ when he is away from his natal home.

International audience; There is an ever-growing number of users who duplicate the social media accounts of celebrities or generally impersonate their presence on online social media as well as Instagram. Of course, this has led to an increasing interest in detecting fake profiles and investigating their behaviour. We begin this research by targeting a few famous politicians, including Donald J. Trump, Barack Obama, and Emmanuel Macron and collecting their activity for the period of 3 months using a specifically-designed crawler across Instagram. We then experimented with several profile characteristics such as user-name, display name, biography, and profile picture to identify impersonator among 1,5M unique users. Using publicly crawled data, our model was able to distinguish crowds of impersonators and political bots. We continued by providing an analysis of the characteristics and behaviour of these impersonators. Finally, we conclude the analysis by classifying impersonators into four different categories.

Benhabib on what she calls substitutionalist universalism (with a note on the Habermasian ethics of discourse). The number of Americans watching political comedy shows has significantly growing recent years. The views increase as TV channels spread their programs into social media, such as YouTube. The comic and funny aspects depicted in the political parody can be in the forms of imitation, impersonation, and reflection of one’s character, expression, and appearance. This paper aims to investigate American TV programs, The President Show and Saturday Night Live’s The Presidential Debate, by employing humor theory seen from Van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis. The dialogues used by the impersonators are analyzed to figure out the elements of funny features, comedy, and parody. Hence, the purpose of this study is to answer whether or not the discourse mechanism can build humor in The President Show and Saturday Night Live’s The Presidential Debate. The data apply ten Comedy Central’s YouTube videos and four Saturday Night Live’s YouTube videos. The data comprises of political and power discourse. The analysis concludes that both shows utilize some aggressive strategies to criticize Trump’s character, such as metaphor to represent policies, contrast to illustrate positive self-representation, and hyperbole to demonstrate racism. While Saturday Night Live applies Hillary Clinton to contrast Trump’s image. Saturday Night Live contrast Trump by applying strategies such as disclaimer, implication, incongruity, aggressive, and illustration to criticize his personalities and his controversial political decisions.

Nowadays, online learning or e-learning has become increasingly popular and evolved. Many academic institutions use the Learning Management System (LMS) as a medium for delivering e-learning. A vital feature in such a system is the electronic examination (e-exam), where verifying student’s authentic competence is a challenge. This paper aims to present countermeasures for impersonation attacks. This research was a more focused effort and a continuation of previously owned one and many others found in works of literature. The method of protection is presented in the form of an attack-defense tree model.

In Lucian’s highly competitive and exhibitionist world, hyper-Atticism, the (ab)use of recondite, archaic words for the sake of impression, has become a sort of plague. In this article, I discuss how Lexiphanes focuses precisely on the literal and metaphorical associations of hyper-Atticism as a disease, by paying particular attention on the medical verdict - articulated in the text by Lucian’s authorial double, Lycinus - that the dialogue’s eponymous character suffers from melancholia. Rather than constitute a passing reference to the colloquial vocabulary of insanity, melancholia, I argue, helps Lucian forcefully assimilate the accumulation of pretentious words to the raving of the insane, a non-sensical blabbering that is void of meaning. At the same time, Lucian aims also to expose the presence of melancholy in the cultural and medical idiom of his time as a disease that typically affects ‘great spirits’, people of exceptional intelligence. By calling Lexiphanes ‘melancholic’, Lucian scolds Lexiphanes’ pretentiousness both as a hyper-Atticist and, no less importantly, as a pseudo-intellectual who is shaping his public image, temperamentally and physiognomically, as a genius whose atrabilious constitution entitles him to act and speak in strange ways.

Due to the lack of centralized identity management and the broadcast nature of wireless ad hoc networks, identity attacks are always tempting. The attackers can create multiple illegitimate (arbitrary or spoofed) identities on their physical devices for various malicious reasons, such as to launch Denial of Service attacks and to evade detection and accountability. In one scenario, the attacker creates more than one identity on a single physical device, which is called a Sybil attack. In the other one, the attacker creates cloned/replicated nodes. We refer collectively to these attacks as identity attacks. Using these malicious techniques, the attacker would perform activities in the network for which the attacker may not be authorized. In the existing literature, these attacks are often counteracted separately. However, in this paper, we propose a solution to counteract both attacks jointly. Our proposed scheme uses the received signal strength for the detection without using extra hardware (such as GPS, antennae or air monitors) and centralized entities (such as trusted third party or certification authority). Upon the detection of malicious identities, they will be quarantined and will be blacklisted for future data communication by the mobile nodes. Our proposed attack detector detects the presence of Sybil attacks and replication attacks locally by analysing the received signal strength captured by each node. Moreover, we propose a technique that will identify these attacks in the overall network. In both local and global cases, we evaluate our solutions theoretically and via simulation in NS-2. The obtained results demonstrate that it is possible to detect identity attacks with considerable accuracy without causing extra overhead in the form of extra hardware, periodic beacons or expensive localization operations in the wireless ad hoc networks.

The purpose of the article.To investigate and analyze the features of the use of plastic and speech tools in the process of creating a stage image based on the art history analysis of the methods of acting; to reveal common and distinctive approaches to the process of reincarnation by means of the foreign technique of the actor and the expediency of their application in the context of contemporary art education of students of higher educational institutions.The methods of researchconstitute the organic totality of the basic principles of research: objectivity, historicism, multifactority, systemic, complex, development and pluralism, and to achieve the research objective, methods of scientific knowledge are used: problem-chronological, concrete-historical, statistical, descriptive, logical-analytical.Scientific novelty.A detailed and comprehensive art history analysis of the systems and methods for creating a stage image in the context of the process of acting as an actor with means of foreign technology was conducted; The main aspects of work on plastic and speech elements on the example of leading actor’s trainings are covered.Conclusions.The conducted art criticism analysis of the most famous systems, schools, methods of theatrical pedagogy and actor’s trainings made it possible to identify common and distinctive approaches to the process of creating a stage image using the means of the actor’s external technique. Plastic and linguistic means when creating a stage image are undoubtedly prevailing in the process of acting as an actor and occupy a leading place in the systems and techniques of K. Stanislavsky, V. Meyerhold, E. Vakhtangov, O. Tairov, M. Chekhov and other outstanding directors. However, the peculiarities and differences in the methods and means for their implementation, as well as the interconnection and interdependence of the means of the actor’s external technique with internal technology, are largely due to the overall concept of each system. It is the unconscious organic symbiosis of the plastics, language and emotions of the actor that determines the level of his skill. Given that the means and approaches to reincarnation for each actor are their own and depend on the initial orientation - on the appearance of the character or on its internal image, we consider it expedient to involve in the educational process not only theoretical but also practical familiarization of students with known systems of creating an artistic image and training, which contribute to the formation and development of external means of acting.

Lost is a polysemic show which mobilizes, for that purpose, the trope of homonymy. Many characters go by the name of great historical figures. This process questions the theme of utopia and ideal society. Yet Benjamin Linus, the main antagonist from the 2nd season to the 5th, is impersonated by an actor named Michael Emerson, whose name is the same as the American philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson, on whom Cavell says that is one of the repressed founding father of American thought. Under what circumstance can we consider that this homonymy constitutes a reference to understand the fictional narrative without taking the risk of confusing our desires with reality? Our thesis is that Lost encourages this sort of risk-taking. The story is a narrative experience, in the wake of Emerson’s self-titled essay. It incites us to rely on ourselves, to dare claim that each of us is special, in order to think a televised subjectivity and intimate recognition at odds with the egocentric voyeur’s posture of the standard viewer.

This research work aims to develop a system that will analyze and identify students who indulge in malpractices/suspicious activities during the course of an academic offline examination. Automated Video Surveillance provides an optimal solution which helps in monitoring the students and identifying the malpractice event immediately. This work is organized into three modules. The first module deals with performing an impersonation check using a PCA-based face recognition method which is done by cross checking his profile with the database. The presence or absence of the student is even determined in this module by implementing an image registration technique wherein a grid is formed by considering all the images registered using the frontal camera at the determined positions. Second, detecting such facial malpractices in which a student gets involved in conversation with another, trying to obtain unauthorized information etc., based on the threshold range evaluated by considering his/her mouth state whether open or closed. The third module deals with identification of unauthorized material or gadgets used in the examination hall by training the positive samples of the object through various stages. Here, a top view camera feed is analyzed to detect the suspicious activities. The system automatically alerts the administration when any suspicious activities are identified, thereby reducing the error rate caused due to manual monitoring. The author comes to the conclusion that Russian and Korean poets, applying the impersonation method, use it in order to convey those feelings and thoughts that one cannot express directly for one reason or another. This work is the attempt to analyze the concepts of impersonation and personification, which help to take a fresh look at the features of the trope functioning in Russian and Korean poetry.

Online examinations are an integral component of many online learning environments and a high-stake process for students, teachers and educational institutions. They are the target of many security threats, including intrusion by hackers and collusion. Collu-sion happens when a student invites a third party to impersonate him/her in an online test, or to abet with the exam questions. This research proposed a profile-based chal-lenge question approach to create and consolidate a student’s profile during the learning process, to be used for authentication in the examination process. The pro-posed method was investigated in six research studies using a usability test method and a risk-based security assessment method, in order to investigate usability attributes and security threats. The findings of the studies revealed that text-based questions are prone to usability issues such as ambiguity, syntactic variation, and spelling mistakes. The results of a usability analysis suggested that image-based questions are more usable than text-based questions (p < 0.01). The findings identified that dynamic profile questions are more efficient and effective than text-based and image-based questions (p < 0.01). Since text-based questions are associated with an individual’s personal information, they are prone to being shared with impersonators. An increase in the numbers of chal-lenge questions being shared showed a significant linear trend (p < 0.01) and increased the success of an impersonation attack. An increase in the database size decreased the success of an impersonation attack with a significant linear trend (p < 0.01). The security analysis of dynamic profile questions revealed that an impersonation attack was not successful when a student shared credentials using email asynchronously. However, a similar attack was successful when a student and impersonator shared information in real time using mobile phones. The response time in this attack was significantly different when a genuine student responded to his challenge questions (p < 0.01). The security analysis revealed that the use of dynamic profile questions in a proctored exam can influence impersonation and abetting. This view was supported by online programme tutors in a focus group study.

Users on Twitter are commonly identified by their profile names. These names are used when directly addressing users on Twitter, are part of their profile page URLs, and can become a trademark for popular accounts, with people referring to celebrities by their real name and their profile name, interchangeably. Twitter, however, has chosen to not permanently link profile names to their corresponding user accounts. In fact, Twitter allows users to change their profile name, and afterwards makes the old profile names available for other users to take. In this paper, we provide a large-scale study of the phenomenon of profile name reuse on Twitter. We show that this phenomenon is not uncommon, investigate the dynamics of profile name reuse, and characterize the accounts that are involved in it. We find that many of these accounts adopt abandoned profile names for questionable purposes, such as spreading malicious content, and using the profile name's popularity for search engine optimization. Finally, we show that this problem is not unique to Twitter (as other popular online social networks also release profile names) and argue that the risks involved with profile-name reuse outnumber the advantages provided by this feature., International World Wide Web Conference 2017

The anthropocentric focus of microbiology has painted a negative image of the largely unknown bacterial community, when in reality bacteria play many more significant roles than influencing human health. It is important to convey this message to college students so that they can make informed decisions as an educated citizen. Non-major students taking a microbiology course however, may demonstrate poor interest and become further alienated by the abstract terminologies. Recent studies suggest that story writing may enhance scientific literacy, and role-play activities are effective means to engage students. Here, I combine these two strategies and introduce a writing activity in which students impersonate an assigned bacterium. Through this writing exercise, students demonstrated deeper understanding of key concepts in microbiology, greater appreciation of the broad roles of bacteria, and improved attitude towards science and science learning.

Z metodo igre vlog je mogoče uresničevanje širokega spektra vzgojno-izobraţevalnih ciljev tako na področju kognitivnega kot čustvenega razvoja posameznika. Učenci/dijaki s pomočjo učiteljevih navodil, smernic samostojno, domiselno in ustvarjalno, z miselnimi postopki predstavljajo dano situacijo, ustvarjajo razpravo, rešujejo nastale teţave in usvajajo snov. Poleg miselnih in intelektualnih procesov se prepletata tudi čustvena in domišljijska aktivnost. Izvedba pouka s pomočjo metode igre vlog in analiza pridobljenega znanja, stopnje ustvarjalnosti, zavzetosti, sodelovanja pri učenju sta bili usmerjeni k ugotovitvi, ali je s takšno obliko poučevanja/učenja v srednji šoli, gimnazijskem programu, mogoče doseči zastavljene vzgojno-izobraţevalne cilje in dijake motivirati za delo ter s tem narediti pouk zanimivejši in privlačnejši. Rezultati analize izdelkov, ocenjevanja kot posledice igre vlog, ki je bila izpeljana kot uvodna motivacija, kot popestritev pouka in kot metoda pridobivanja novega znanja, ponavljanja in utrjevanja znanja, ter ocenjevanja, torej v vseh fazah učnega procesa, so pokazali, da je igra vlog primerna in uspešna metoda poučevanja/učenja, saj so bili vzgojno-izobraţevalni cilji doseţeni, dijaki ustvarjalni, aktivni in uspešni. Using a teacher’s instructions and guidelines, pupils/students autonomously, imaginatively and creatively, through mental processes, present a giving situation, create a debate, solve difficulties encountered and create learning material. Besides mental and intellectual processes, emotional and imaginative activities are also activated. Teaching by using the method of role-playing and the analysis of the acquired knowledge, the degree of creativity, of commitment, of participation in learning, all lead to a conclusion that by applying this teaching/learning method in a high school with a baccalaureate programme we can achieve the set educational goals and motivate pupils to work and thus make our lessons more interesting and attractive. The results of the analysis of school work, evaluation as a result of role-playing as an introductory motivation, as a method of making lessons more varied and as a method of acquiring, repeating and consolidating knowledge, showed that role playing is an adequate and successful teaching/learning method, because the educational goals were achieved and pupils were creative, active and successful.

One of crucial disadvantages of key predistribution schemes for ad hoc networks is that if devices A and B use a shared key K to determine their session keys, then any adversarial device that holds K can impersonate A against B (or vice versa). Also, the adversary holding such a device can eavesdrop on communication between A and B for the lifetime of the system. We develop a dynamic scheme where the devices are preloaded with permanent keys according to a predistribution scheme, but these keys are not used directly for setting up session keys. For this purpose devices use a pool of temporal keys, which periodically are selected at random by a system provider. The temporal keys are broadcast by the system provider in an encrypted form (e.g. using the GSM network or local broadcasting services). For the transmission, the temporal keys are encrypted with permanent keys, each temporal key occurring m times encrypted with m different permanent keys. (Parameter m is a small constant.) Encrypting the same temporal key with different permanent keys has the effect that with a high probability two devices share many more temporal keys than the permanent keys from the main pool of keys. Also, the shared temporal keys come not only from ciphertexts encrypted with shared permanent keys but predominantly from ciphertexts encrypted with the permanent keys that are not shared by the devices. After each re-distribution different pairs of permanent keys provide such shared temporal keys. This feature is the key property of our design. It makes it possible not only to protect communication against an adversary that has collected a large fraction of keys from the main pool of keys, but also enables using key predistribution for authentication in the presence of such an adversary. Finally, we present a scheme for renewing the permanent keys in a way that an adversary loses the knowledge of permanent keys except for the keys that it learns via the legitimate devices that he holds. The scheme is based on projective plane techniques.

Authorship attribution, conceived as the identification of the origin of a text between different authors, has been a very active area of research in the scientific community mainly supported by advances in Natural Language Processing (NLP), machine learning and Computational Intelligence. This paradigm has been mostly addressed from a literary perspective, aiming at identifying the stylometric features and writeprints which unequivocally typify the writer patterns and allow their unique identification. On the other hand, the upsurge of social networking platforms and interactive messaging have undoubtedly made the anonymous expression of feelings, the sharing of experiences and social relationships much easier than in other traditional communication media. Unfortunately, the popularity of such communities and the virtual identification of their users deploy a rich substrate for cybercrimes against unsuspecting victims and other forms of illegal uses of social networks that call for the activity tracing of accounts. In the context of one-to-one communications this manuscript postulates the identification of the sender of a message as a useful approach to detect impersonation attacks in interactive communication scenarios. In particular this work proposes to select linguistic features extracted from messages via NLP techniques by means of a novel feature selection algorithm based on the dissociation between essential traits of the sender and receiver influences. The performance and computational efficiency of different supervised learning models when incorporating the proposed feature selection method is shown to be promising with real SMS data in terms of identification accuracy, and paves the way towards future research lines focused on applying the concept of language typicality in the discourse analysis field. Social media sites have appeared during the last 10 years and their use has exploded all over the world. Twitter is a microblogging service that has currently 320 million user profiles and over 100 million daily active users. Many celebrities and leading politicians have a verified profile on Twitter, including Justin Bieber, president Obama, and the Pope. In this paper we investigate the '‘hundreds of Putins and Obamas phenomenon’ on Twitter. We collected two data sets in 2015 containing 582 and 6477 profiles that are related to the G20 leaders’ profiles on Twitter. The number of namesakes varied from 5 to 1000 per leader. We analysed in detail various aspects of the Putin and Erdogan related profiles. For the first ones we looked into the language of the profiles, their follower sets, the address in the profile and where the tweets were really sent from. For both profile sets we investigated why the accounts were created. For this, we deduced 12 categories based on the information in the profile and the contents of the sent tweets. The research is exploratory in nature, but we tentatively looked into online identity, communication and political theories that might explain emergence of these kinds of Twitter profiles. peerReviewed

Essa dissertação aborda a montagem das drag queens enquanto um meio para pensar tanto em termos conceituais quanto para refletir sobre a própria existência. Em seu processo de montagem, as drags desafiam composições estratificadas de conceitos de gênero, de corpo, de aparência, de subjetividade, nos apontando para cruzamentos entre modos de vestir, maneiras de viver e formas de pensar. A pesquisa busca fugir de discursos molares, dominantes, e recorre, em seu auxílio, a conceitos propostos por autores tais como Deleuze, Guattari, Rolnik, Butler, Preciado, Bento, Preciosa, Miller e Bollon, entre outros, de falas das drag queens Kinaidos, La Beauty, Amanda Fierce, Duda Flux, de relatos autobiográficos, de fotografias de Nikki S Lee, dos filmes Paris is Burning e Morrer como um Homem. Costura-se, assim, um texto-roupa fragmentado, no qual sujeito e objeto se confundem, se entrelaçam. A investigação se encerra consciente de que se trata de um caminho inacabado e em constante transformação. This dissertation addresses the impersonation of drag queens as a way to think both conceptually and to reflect on the existence. In their impersonation process, drags challenge stratified compositions of concepts as gender, body, appearance, subjectivity in pointing to intersections between modes of dress, ways of living and ways of thinking. The research seeks to escape from molars, dominant discourses, and uses, to its aid, the concepts proposed by authors such as Deleuze, Guattari, Rolnik, Butler, Preciado, Benedict, Precious, Miller and Bollon, among others, statements of drag queens Kinaidos, La Beauty, Amanda Fierce, Duda Flux, of autobiographical accounts, photographs of Nikki S Lee, films Paris is Burning and To die like a man. We sew, thus, a fragmented text-blank, in which subject and object are confused, intertwine. The research concludes aware that this is an unfinished and constantly changing path.

This paper focuses on some decaying states of mind in Tu rostro mañana, by Javier Marías. We analyze some characters as Jaime Deza, Peter Wheeler or Francisco Rico who are losing their memories through blankness or prescience. We draw out some conclusions that may be used to distinguish the thin line between fiction and alleged truth in Marías‘ work, and to assert that no truth can ever be told through words, being the only solution the remnants of silence. Since a story is predicated upon discourse –no matter whether it comes from history, memory, record, literature, oral tradition– it is falsified by time. Winner or loser alignments (represented through censorship and delusion) are also used to tell anything. Despite all this, our conclusion asserts any kind of contention as chimerical, because the void is always occupied by another infamous side of the story. This is the reason why J. Deza is pushed to tell his stories, even when words prove themselves to be unsuccessful to translate a fact into fiction. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo estudiar los diferentes estados mentales de los personajes de las novelas de Tu rostro mañana, de Javier Marías. Estudiando las reflexiones del narrador sobre J. Deza, Peter Wheeler o Francisco Rico observamos que su decadencia mental se muestra a través de una suerte de ―presciencia‖ o lucidez momentánea que puede servir para mostrar el silencio como única tendencia de todo discurso. Desde el momento en que toda historia de ficción se cimenta sobre un discurso –no importa su cauce de presentación, ni su fuente– este es falsificado por el tiempo, la gente y cualquier otra herramienta que pueda ser utilizada para contar nada. Las conclusiones de este trabajo muestran la quimera que implica tratar de mantener una contención absoluta sobre lo acaecido, pues dicho vacío de narrativas será ocupado por una suplantación que suele ser el reverso más infame de sus actores. Es por ello que el narrador J. Deza sigue conminado a explicar sus historias, incluso allí donde uno diría que ya no puede haber ni palabras suficientes para traducir un hecho en ficción.

Lately the proliferation of social networks has given rise to a myriad of fraudulent strategies aimed at getting some sort of benefit from the attacked individual. Despite most of them being exclusively driven by economic interests, the so called impersonation, masquerading attack or identity fraud hinges on stealing the credentials of the victim and assuming his/her identity to get access to resources (e.g. relationships or confidential information), credit and other benefits in that person’s name. While this problem is getting particularly frequent within the teenage community, the reality is that very scarce technological approaches have been proposed in the literature to address this issue which, if not detected in time, may catastrophically unchain other fatal consequences to the impersonated person such as bullying and intimidation. In this context, this paper delves into a machine learning approach that permits to efficiently detect this kind of attacks by solely relying on connection time information of the potential victim. The manuscript will demonstrate how these learning algorithms - in particular, support vector classifiers - can be of great help to understand and detect impersonation attacks without compromising the user privacy of social networks. This article argues that studies of the female voice in medieval Latin lyric should take into account the significance of Statius’ Thebaid as a vehicle for the feminine voice distinct from that represented by the Ovidian tradition, for Statius’ text makes prominent the figure of the grieving, but powerful mother rather than the lovesick, abandoned “heroine.” It takes as a case study the eleventh century collection, Cambridge Songs, which include five laments excerpted from classical texts, three of them women’s laments from Statius’ Thebaid. Recited or sung by young students or male performers, these excerpted laments also raise the question of whether impersonation created a sympathetic understanding of female experience or reinforced gender differentiation and male elite values. This article suggests that the excerpted laments from the Thebaid, when detached from the epic narrative, give validity and authority to the conventionally marginal voices of women.

La realización de este ensayo fue enfocado principalmente en conocer y divulgar las modalidades delictivas en las entidades financieras teniendo la intención de proponer estrategias, políticas y soluciones para mitigar estas acciones delictivas que cada vez ocurren con más frecuencia en nuestro país, Las modalidades delictivas que impacta el sector financiero con mayor frecuencia son el fleteo, paquete chileno, suplantación de funcionarios, sometimiento por medio de drogas como la escopolamina y el hurto en los cajeros automáticos; dentro de las políticas de seguridad que implementa una entidad financiera son tomadas de protocolos propuestos por Gobierno Nacional como la circular externa 052 divulgada por la superintendencia financiera de Colombia, que fue creado con el propósito de proteger al cliente y que la entidad financiera se responsabilizara de la seguridad del cliente cuando este hace uso de sus productos, así mismo el autocuidado hace parte importante en la prevención contra el hurto. The purpose of this test was mainly focused on identify and disseminate criminal methods in financial institutions intending to propose strategies, policies and solutions to mitigate these criminal actions that increasingly occur more frequently in our country 's criminal activities impacting the financial sector most often are the freight costs , Chilean packet spoofing officials , submission by drugs such as scopolamine and theft at ATMs ; within security policy that implements a financial institution are taken from protocols proposed by National Government and external Circular 052 released by the financial superintendence of Colombia , which was created in order to protect the customer and the financial institution take responsibility for the safety of the client when it makes use of its products , also the self- made important part in the prevention against theft .

In this case study, researchers conducting ethnographic field studies in remote areas of Brazil decided to impersonate friends or relatives of research participants living with HIV as a means to protect participants from inadvertent disclosure of their serostatus to fellow community members.
