Toute personne, usager actif ou non, rencontre dans la bibliothèque bien d’autres messages que ceux véhiculés par les livres : guides d’orientation, cartes de lecteur, éléments de signalétique, logos, affichage informatif, bibliographies, etc. Cette floraison de documents produits par la bibliothèque témoigne d’une volonté constante des professionnels : établir un lien avec le public, le séduire, le guider, l’alerter, l’informer voire le former. Mais cette médiation par l’écrit est parfois très improvisée, au risque de ne pas atteindre ses objectifs. Concevoir des documents de communication à l’intention du public répond à la fois à une stratégie d’ensemble et à des impératifs techniques précis. C’est ce que Marielle de Miribel, enseignante à Médiadix, propose de démontrer dans ce volume, avec le concours de nombreux spécialistes.

The hydroxycinnamic acid scaffold is extremely versatile with various biological activities. This review will highlight the progress of the biological activities of hydroxycinnamic acids and their related synthetic analogs, including recently reported anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities.

This blog discusses price instruments in fishery regulation to ensure sustainability of fishery resources. We focus on economic instruments and price-based instruments including tax policies in fisheries and fishery subsidies in particular.

Soxhlet (SE), microwave-assisted (MAE) and ultrasound-assisted (UAE) extraction were compared using ten extraction solvents for their efficiency to extract phenolic and flavonoid antioxidants from Eastern Canada propolis. Extracts were compared for total phenolic (TPC) and total flavonoid (TFC) content, and radical scavenging activities. Anti-inflammatory activity through inhibition of 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) products biosynthesis in HEK293 cells was also evaluated. The results showed that SE extracts using polar solvents had the highest TPC and TFC. Extracts obtained with ethanol, methanol and acetone were effective free radical scavengers, and showed 5-LO inhibition similar to zileuton. UAE was an effective extraction method since the extracts obtained were comparable to those using SE and the MAE while being done at room temperature. With UAE, extracts of less polar solvents showed similar free radical scavenging and 5-LO inhibition to extracts of much more polar solvents such as methanol or ethanol. Reversed-phase liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry confirmed the presence of 21 natural compounds in the propolis extracts based on the comparison of intact mass, chromatographic retention time and fragmentation patterns derived from commercial analytical standards. The current study is the first of its kind to concurrently investigate solvent polarity as well as extraction techniques of propolis.

La décision politique, les partenaires L’ouverture dominicale des médiathèques est un choix politique : les horaires sont liés à la politique de service public, c'est-à-dire à une analyse des besoins et des attentes des populations, à une définition volontariste d’offre de services nouveaux. Mais ce choix n’est réalisable qu’à condition que les moyens soient cohérents avec les ambitions, et qu’il ne se fasse pas au détriment des agents (nombre d’agents, rémunérations, conditions de travail…)....

Ouvrir, oui mais quand? Matin, midi et soir? Le dimanche? Comment élargir les horaires d'ouverture, quels sont les obstacles à franchir? Comment construire un tel projet, le porter et le mettre en œuvre? La France dispose aujourd’hui d’un des réseaux de bibliothèques les plus développés d’Europe. Toutefois, depuis quelques années, la stagnation du nombre de lecteurs inscrits oblige à une réflexion sur son évolution. Parmi les causes de cette progressive désaffection figure la question des horaires d’ouverture qui, paradoxalement, n’a pas accompagné cette modernisation qui suppose un accueil élargi à tous les publics. La résolution de ce paradoxe appelle une réflexion sur le rôle social de la bibliothèque, aussi important que son rôle éducatif et culturel. Prendre en compte les nouveaux modes de vie du public, resituer la vraie place de la bibliothèque dans la ville ou sur le campus, harmoniser l’utilisation de l’espace par les usagers avec leur disponibilité dans le temps, répondre concrètement aux nouvelles attentes des différents publics, renouveler les pratiques professionnelles en direction du public, tels sont les thèmes évoqués dans cet ouvrage.

International audience; Many renewable resource sectors are heavily subsidized and yet the resources are also seriously depleted. World Trade Organization members included subsidies in a key renewable resource sector (fisheries) in the Doha round of trade negotiations, which subsequently stalled. This paper develops a simple model to show why prospects for a deal on fisheries subsidies may be difficult. Typically international spillover effects create incentives among exporters to negotiate reductions in subsidies: one country's subsidy worsens other exporters' terms of trade. These incentives may not exist in fisheries for 3 reasons. First, open access fishery supply curves are backward bending and so if fisheries are depleted, subsidies raise prices (by reducing sustainable harvesting) and improve other exporters' terms of trade. Second, ecological constraints put an upper bound on sustainable harvesting. This means that subsidies that increase employment may have no effect on output and hence generate no international spillover effects if resources are well managed. And third, even if governments were compelled to reduce fishery subsidies, there may be no spillover benefits to trading partners because of policy substitution: governments would be motivated to weaken other regulations targeting the fish sector.; De nombreux secteurs des ressources renouvelables sont fortement subventionnés et pourtant les ressources sont également gravement épuisées. Les membres de l'Organisation Mondiale du Commerce ont inclus des subventions dans un secteur clé des ressources renouvelables (pêche) dans le cycle de négociations commerciales de Doha, qui ont ensuite été bloqué. Ce travail développe un modèle simple pour montrer pourquoi les perspectives d'un accord sur les subventions à la pêche peuvent être difficiles. Et troisièmement, même si les gouvernements étaient contraints de réduire les subventions à la pêche, il n'y aurait pas de retombées positives pour les partenaires commerciaux en raison de la substitution des politiques: les gouvernements seraient motivés à affaiblir d'autres réglementations ciblant le secteur de la pêche.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death amongst women worldwide. As a result, many have turned their attention to new alternative approaches to treat this disease. Caffeic acid phenylethyl ester (CAPE), a well-known active compound from bee propolis, has been previously identified as a strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and anticancer molecule. In fact, CAPE is well documented as inducing cell death by inhibiting NFκB and by inducing pro-apoptotic pathways (i.e., p53). With the objective of developing stronger anticancer compounds, we studied 18 recently described CAPE derivatives for their ability to induce apoptosis in breast cancer cell lines. Five of the said compounds, including CAPE, were selected and subsequently characterised for their anticancer mechanism of action. We validated that CAPE is a potent inducer of caspase-dependent apoptosis. Interestingly, some newly synthesized CAPE derivatives also showed greater cell death activity than the lead CAPE structure. Similarly to CAPE, analog compounds elicited p53 activation. Interestingly, one compound in particular, analog 10, induced apoptosis in a p53-mutated cell line. These results suggest that our new CAPE analog compounds may display the capacity to induce breast cancer apoptosis in a p53-dependent and/or independent manner. These CAPE analogs could thus provide new therapeutic approaches for patients with varying genotypic signatures (such as p53 mutations) in a more specific and targeted fashion.

Given the hepatotoxicity and an unfavorable pharmacokinetic profile of zileuton (Zyflo® ), currently the only approved and clinically used 5-Lipoxygenase (5-LO) inhibitor, the search for potent and safe 5-LO inhibitors is highly demanded. The action of several phenolic acid phenethyl esters as potential 5-Lipoxygenase (5-LO) inhibitors has been investigated. For this purpose, a series of 14 phenethyl esters was synthesized and their impact on 5-LO inhibition was evaluated. The effects of position and number of hydroxyl and methoxy groups on the phenolic acid were investigated. The shortening of the linker between the carbonyl and the catechol moiety as well as the presence of the α,β-unsaturated carbonyl group was also explored. The sinapic acid phenethyl ester (10), which can be named SAPE (10) by analogy to caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), inhibited 5-LO in a concentration-dependent manner and outperformed both zileuton (1) and CAPE (2). With an IC50 of 0.3 μm, SAPE (10) was threefold more potent than CAPE (2) and 10-fold more potent than zileuton (1), the only 5-LO inhibitor approved for clinical use. Unlike CAPE (2), SAPE (10) had no effect on 12-lipoxygenase (12-LO) and less effect on cyclooxygenase 1 (COX-1) which makes it a more selective 5-LO inhibitor.

Two novel boron compounds containing caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) derivatives have been prepared and characterized fully. These new compounds and CAPE have been investigated for potential antioxidant and antimicrobial properties and their ability to inhibit 5-lipoxygenase and whether chelation to boron improves their biological activity. Sodium salt 4 was generally more active than ammonium salt 5 in the biological assays and surpassed the radical scavenging ability of CAPE. Compounds 4 and 5 were more active than CAPE and Zileuton in human polymorphonuclear leukocytes. These results clearly show the effectiveness of the synthesized salts as transporter of CAPE.

Leukotrienes (LTs) are a class of lipid mediators implicated in numerous inflammatory disorders. Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) possesses potent anti-LTs activity through the inhibition of 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO), the key enzyme in the biosynthesis of LTs. In this study, we describe the design and synthesis of CAPE analogs as radical scavengers and 5-LO inhibitors. Caffeic esters bearing propargyl and allyl linkers between the caffeoyl and aryl moieties (4a-i and 5a-i, respectively) were synthesized by Sonogashira and Heck cross-coupling reactions to probe the effects of flexibility and aryl substitution on 5-LO inhibition. Caffeoyl alcohol and ethers (6, 7a-b) as well as caffeoyl aldehyde and ketones (8a-e) were synthesized to elucidate the importance of the ester linkage for inhibitory activity. All tested compounds proved to be good radical scavengers (IC50 of 10-30 μm). After preliminary anti-LTs activity screening in HEK293 cell models, 5-LO inhibition potential of selected compounds was determined in human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL). Most screened compounds outperformed CAPE 3 in concentration-dependent assays on PMNL, with ester dimers 4i and 5i along with caffeoyl ethers 7a-b being roughly eight-, seven-, and 16-fold more potent than Zileuton, with IC50 values of 0.36, 0.43, and 0.18 μm, respectively.

Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) is a bioactive component isolated from propolis. A series of CAPE analogues was synthesized and their antiradical/antioxidant effects analyzed. The effect of the presence of the double bond and of the conjugated system on the antioxidant effect is evaluated with the analogues obtained from 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl) propanoic acid. Those obtained from 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl) acetic acid and 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid allow the evaluation of the effect of the presence of two carbons between the carbonyl and aromatic system.

A biofuel mandate is compared with a tax policy on conventional fuel and a benchmark case of a laissez-faire solution (the absence of biofuel as an energy source). This study also evaluates the interaction effects of a biofuel mandate when it is used simultaneously with a tax on conventional fuel. The evaluation of the relative efficiency of second-best energy policy alternatives, inspired from the French case, is based on a general equilibrium model taking into account the externalities due to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The emissions come from conventional fuel refining and consumption as well as from biofuel use and the associated land-use changes. Using French biodiesel data involving rapeseed for 2010, our numerical results show, on the one hand, that the tax policy on conventional fuel appears to be the best policy option in terms of welfare because it leads to significant reductions in GHG emissions. On the other hand, our numerical results show that the biofuel mandate is the worst policy option in terms of welfare. However, if the price of rapeseed in 2010 were low enough, then a combination of the tax on gasoline with a biofuel mandate would have been preferable to the tax on gasoline.; L'objectif de ce travail est d'évaluer, dans le cas de la France, les e¤ets économiques et environnementaux d'une politique d'incorporation obligatoire de biocarburants par rapport à une taxe sur le carburant fossile. Cette politique est également comparée à la solution de laissez-faire (l'absence de biocarburant comme source d'énergie). Ce travail évalue aussi les e¤ets d'interaction de la politique d'incorporation obligatoire de biocarburants lorsqu'elle est utilisée conjointement avec une taxe sur le carburant fossile. Cette évaluation de l'e¢ cacité des politiques én-ergétiques non-nécessairement optimales, inspirées du cas français est fondée sur un modèle d'équilibre général qui prend en compte les externalités dues aux émissions de gaz à e¤et de serre (GES). Ces émissions proviennent non seulement du ra¢ nage et de la consommation du carburant fossile, mais aussi de l'usage des biocarburants incluant les changements d'a¤ectation des sols. We study the strategic interaction between mitigation and adaptation strategies in the canonical model of international environmental agreements (IEAs). We show that these two strategies are strategic substitutes considering various definitions of substitutability, irrespective of the degree of cooperation. Moreover, different from a pure mitigation game, adaptation may cause mitigation levels between different countries to be strategic complements, generalizing a result by Ebert andWelsch (2011 and 2012) to more than two countries with thepossibility that players form self-enforcing IEAs. We systematically analyze under which conditions this leads to more positive cooperative outcomes compared to the pure mitigation game. Particular emphasis is placed on sufficient conditions for the existence, and uniqueness of interior equilibrium strategies and how they link to the success of coalition formation., Dans ce travail, les auteurs analysent l’interaction stratégique entre les stratégies d’atténuation des émissions de gaz à effet de serre (GES) et d’adaptation au changement climatique dans le cadre du modèle canonique des accords environnementaux internationaux. Contrairement à un jeu d’atténuation pur, l’adaptation peut donner lieu à des situations où les niveaux d’atténuation des pays sont des compléments stratégiques. Les problèmes de pollution transfrontalière affectant des pays hétérogènes, d'un point de vue des dommages issus de la pollution globale comme d'un point de vue des coûts de dépollution, impliquent de répondre à deux questions: (i) que gagneraient des pays hétérogènes à signer des AEI de norme uniforme, a priori contraignante ? (ii) Des transferts compensatoires permettent-ils de rendre la norme uniforme préférable même s'ils sont coûteux à mettre en oeuvre (en raison de coûts administratifs et politiques) ? Dans ce travail, on étudie le rôle des coûts de transferts entre pays dans l'issue des négociations internationales relatives à l'environnement. En effet, la mise en oeuvre de transferts compensatoires peut être coûteuse et ces transferts peuvent être qualifiés d'imparfaits. L’analyse du bien-être collectif montre notamment que les pays préfèrent signer l’accord UT plutôt que l’accord D si le coût associé aux transferts dans l’accord uniforme est suffisamment faible. L’analyse de bien-être individuel des pays nous permet de discuter des situations où l’un des pays peut être réticent à signer un accord donné plutôt qu’un autre, même si son niveau de bien-être s’améliore par rapport à la solution non-coopérative.

5-Lipoxygenase (5-LO) is the key enzyme responsible for the conversion of arachidonic acid to leukotrienes, a class of lipid mediators implicated in inflammatory disorders. In this paper, we describe the design, synthesis, and preliminary activity studies of novel clicked caffeic esters and amides as radical scavengers and 5-LO inhibitors. From known 5-LO inhibitor 3 as a lead, cinnamic esters 8a–h and amides 9a–h as well as caffeic esters 15a–h and amides 16a–h were synthesized by Cu(I)-catalyzed [1,3]-dipolar cycloaddition with the appropriate azide precursors and terminal alkynes. All caffeic analogs are proved to be good radical scavengers (IC50: 10–20 μM). Esters 15g and 15f possessed excellent 5-LO inhibition activity in HEK293 cells and were equipotent with the known 5-LO inhibitor CAPE and more potent than Zileuton. Several synthesized esters possess activities rivaling Zileuton in stimulated human polymorphonuclear leukocytes.

Our aim is to test the theoretical prediction that trade liberalization in the presence of open access resources can lead to a reduction in harvest at the long-run due to stock depletion. To this end, we carry out an instrumental variable estimation for a panel data model.; Dans ce travail, les auteurs étudient si le commerce international de poissons et de produits de la pêche a contribué au déclin de 57 espèces de poissons observés en Turquie entre 1996 et 2009. l'objectif est de tester la prédiction théorique selon laquelle la libéralisation du commerce en présence de libre-accès aux ressources peut conduire à la réduction des prises de poisson à long-terme à cause de l’épuisement des stocks. Dans cet objectif, on utilise une méthode d’estimation à variable instrumentale d’un modèle de panel. Les résultats des estimations indiquent que la courbe d’offre de prise de poisson est décroissante, c'est-à-dire que la ressource est surexploitée, peu importe si le poisson est exporté ou non.

Caffeic acid and its naturally occurring derivative caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) have antiproliferative and cytotoxic properties in a variety of cancer cell lines without displaying significant toxicity toward healthy cells, and are considered to be potential anticancer agents. However, little is known about their effects on prostate cancer cells. We synthesized and evaluated the effects of caffeic acid, CAPE (2) and 18 synthetic derivatives on cell viability and androgen-dependent cell proliferation, subcellular localisation and expression of androgen receptor (AR) and secretion of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in LNCaP human hormone-dependent prostate cancer cells. Several synthetic derivatives of CAPE were strong, concentration-dependent cytotoxic agents in LNCaP cells with IC50 values in the 6.8-26.6 μM range, potencies that were up to five-fold greater than that of CAPE (33.7±4.0 μM). A number of caffeic acid derivatives were inhibitors of androgen-stimulated LNCaP cell proliferation with concomitant inhibition of DHT-stimulated PSA secretion. Compound 24 was the most cytotoxic and antiproliferative caffeic acid derivative (IC50 values of 6.8±0.3 and 2.4±0.8 μM, respectively) inhibiting DHT-stimulated cell proliferation and PSA secretion statistically significantly at concentrations as low as 0.3 μM. Exposure to DHT increased cytoplasmic and nuclear AR levels and co-treatment with increasing concentrations of compound 24 or CAPE (2), notably, further increased these levels. In conclusion, a number of synthetic derivatives of caffeic acid are potent inhibitors of androgen-dependent prostate cancer cell proliferation and viability, acting, at least in part, via an antiandrogenic mechanism that involves increased nuclear accumulation of (presumably inactive) AR.

Changes across metabolic networks are emerging as an integral part of cancer development and progression. Increasing comprehension of the importance of metabolic processes as well as metabolites in cancer is stimulating exploration of novel, targeted treatment options. Arachidonic acid (AA) is a major component of phospholipids. Through the cascade catalyzed by cyclooxygenases and lipoxygenases, AA is also a precursor to cellular signaling molecules as well as molecules associated with a variety of diseases including cancer. 5-Lipoxygenase catalyzes the transformation of AA into leukotrienes (LT), important mediators of inflammation. High-throughput analysis of metabolic profiles was used to investigate the response of glioblastoma cell lines to treatment with 5-lipoxygenase inhibitors. Metabolic profiling of cells following drug treatment provides valuable information about the response and metabolic alterations induced by the drug action and give an indication of both on-target and off-target effects of drugs. Four different 5-lipoxygenase inhibitors and antioxidants were tested including zileuton, caffeic acid, and its analogues caffeic acid phenethyl ester and caffeic acid cyclohexethyl ester. A NMR approach identified metabolic signatures resulting from application of these compounds to glioblastoma cell lines, and metabolic data were used to develop a better understanding of the mode of action of these inhibitors.

Poly(ethylene glycol)-albumin hydrogels were implanted in mice in subcutaneous position to study their biocompatibility. After one month of implantation, the fibrous capsule formed around the implant was thin and the inflammatory tissue was limited. Acid phosphatase (AP) was selected to evaluate the hydrogel as matrix for enzyme immobilization. AP-hydrogels were prepared using activated PEG (PEGa) of different molecular weights (M.W. 4,600 to 20,000) to evaluate the effect of the matrix composition on the activity of AP. The apparent Km of the immobilized AP was 16 to 20 times higher than the Km of the soluble enzyme. The apparent Km value decreases with the increase of the chain length of the PEGa used. This can be correlated to an increase in the hydrogel porosity. The operational stability of the AP was markedly improved after immobilization by 110 to 160 times according to the PEGa molecular weight involved. Also, asparaginase (ASNase) was immobilized in PEGa (M.W. 10,000)-albumin-hydrogel as a model for in vivo bioreactor. ASNase hydrogels were implanted in the peritoneal cavity of rats; 7 days later, 75% of the initial enzyme activity were retrieved.

High water content hydrogel microparticles based on the cross-linking of albumin with activated poly(ethylene glycol) were synthesized. The influence of different synthesis parameters on the physicochemical characteristics of the microparticles, such as the type of oil and of albumin, and the molecular weight of PEG, was evaluated. The water content of the microparticles ranged from 95 to 98%, increasing with an increase of the molecular weight of PEG. At optimal conditions, microparticles with sizes ranging from 3 to 50 μm were prepared. These microparticles showed a negatively charged surface. They were freely dispersed in PBS buffer and they were stable at 4°C for times varying from 0.5 to 10 months. Initial stirring speed and molecular weight of PEG were the 2 main factors that significantly affected microparticle size. High hydrophilicity, good stability and modulable size make this hydrogel an attractive matrix for protein or cell immobilization for biomedical applications.

The caffeic acid scaffold, which is abundant in nature, is extremely versatile and is found in a number of biologically active molecules. The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of the pharmacological activity of synthetic caffeic acid analogs including recent reports of anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and antiviral activities of these compounds.

This study compares the two most frequently used biofuel policies at the international level (a biofuel subsidy and a biofuel mandate), with a traditional tax policy on gasoline and a benchmark case of a laissez-faire solution (absence of biofuel as an energy source). The first three policy options are usually introduced to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from fossil fuels. We posit the existence of perfect competition in an economy with environmental externalities due to GHG emissions. The analysis is carried out with a (simplified) general equilibrium model. Using 2006 data from the French biodiesel policy involving rapeseed, our numerical results show that, when the environmental damage from gasoline consumption is taken into account, the three policy options do better than the benchmark case of the laissez-faire solution. However, when the environmental damage from biofuel production is also taken into account, the three policy options are worse than the benchmark case. As concerns the comparison of the three policy options in this case, in the majority of cases, the biofuel mandate policy appears to be the best policy option, as it leads to a lower level of emissions than both the tax policy on gasoline and the biofuel subsidy policy.; L’objectif de ce travail est d’évaluer l’efficacité économique et environnementale de trois politiques énergétiques qui ont pour objectif de réduire les émissions de gaz à effet de serre (notés GES dorénavant) : une subvention à la production d’agrocarburants, une incorporation obligatoire d’agrocarburants dans les carburants utilisés dans le secteur des transports, et enfin une taxe sur la consommation de gazole. Les effets de ces politiques sont comparés à une situation de laissez-faire où il n’existe pas de politique énergétique (absence d’agrocarburant). Les auteurs supposent qu’il existe la concurrence parfaite et des externalités environnementales associées aux émissions de GES. Un modèle d’équilibre général simple à quatre secteurs (marché du bien agricole, marché énergétique, marché de la terre et marché du travail) nous permet de prendre en compte les effets prix et revenus découlant des interactions entre ces différents marchés. Les auteurs effectuent des simulations numériques sur des données françaises pour évaluer les mesures de promotion de biodiesel produit à partir de colza (subvention et incorporation de biodiesel) et la politique de taxation de diesel en France en 2006. Les résultats obtenus dans le cadre de notre modèle pour une petite économie ouverte montrent que l’utilité de l’agent représentatif se dégrade avec ces trois arrangements institutionnels par rapport à la situation de laissez-faire, lorsque les émissions de GES provenant de la consommation de gazole et de la production de biodiesel sont prises en compte. En plus de provoquer la diminution de la consommation de bien alimentaire due au conflit d’usage du bien agricole final, ces politiques augmentent l’étendue des émissions de GES (donc les dommages environnementaux). Dans la majorité des cas, la politique d’incorporation d’agrocarburants apparaît comme la meilleure politique comparativement aux deux autres arrangements institutionnels.

In this paper, we analyze whether the development of a growing economy could be impeded if a binding climate agreement were signed at the international level. Specifically, we study, in the case of a developing country, the initial momentum for development in the presence of binding emission standards. To this end, we enhance the Big Push static general equilibrium model, developed by Murphy, Shleifer, and Vishny (1989) by introducing both exogeneous emission standards and abatement investments with fixed costs. Our findings show that in the case of a developing country this model could lead to two equilibria : a “bad” equilibrium and a “good” equilibrium. The “bad” equilibrium is a situation in which the development is brought to a halt because of stringent emission standards. The “good” equilibrium, or what we call the “Environmental” Big Push, corresponds to a situation in which a given number of modern sectors have an incentive both to modernize production while investing in new abatement technology.

Cet article défend l'idée selon laquelle une scolarisation minimale obligatoire peut constituer un complément efficace à une taxe qui financerait l'éducation en présence d'évasion fiscale. Nous construisons un modèle à générations d'agents dans lequel deux régimes d'éducation sont définis. Le premier est privé en l'absence d'état et le second est public. Dans le régime privé, les agents financent l'éducation via un transfert de bien à l'école. Dans le régime public, l'État collecte des impôts pour financer l'éducation. Pour déterminer le taux d'imposition optimal, l'État considère qu'un enfant est un futur parent. A l'État stationnaire, le régime public est donc Pareto améliorant car l'État prend en compte l'inefficacité intergénérationelle, l'altruisme des parents vis ‡ vis des enfants étant imparfait. Quand nous comparons le taux d'imposition avec le taux d'investissement privé en Éducation, le premier est naturellement optimal au sens de Pareto à l'État stationnaire. Or, sachant que dans les pays en développement plus qu'ailleurs, une large part des revenus ne sont pas déclarés, l'hypothèse d'un gouvernement disposant d'une information complète sur les revenus de la population n'est pas satisfaisante. Nous proposons alors un optimum de premier rang dans lequel, en termes de bien-être, le régime public ne peut dominer le régime privé que si le gouvernement impose une durée d'études minimale.

Cet article tente d’identifier empiriquement les déterminants de la croissance turque à partir de données annuelles de 1980 à 1995. L’analyse empirique s’appuie sur un modèle théorique "canonique" de croissance qui nous sert à élaborer des résultats empiriques. Il nous invite à construire un résidu de Solow, à partir des parts des rémunérations des facteurs, dont on cherche ensuite les déterminants empiriquement. Après avoir effectué une première sélection de variables économiques, dont les résultats ne sont pas présentés ici, deux modèles concurrents peuvent expliquer le résidu de Solow. Un premier modèle dans lequel les dépenses publiques joueraient un rôle essentiel et un second modèle dans lequel le travail informel (approximé par le taux de chômage) et le capital humain (approximé par des variables d’éducation) joueraient, indépendamment, un rôle important, sont acceptables a priori en se basant sur des critères statistiques standards. Une comparaison des deux modèles à partir des tests de modèles, conclut cependant en faveur de la première explication. Les résultats doivent être néanmoins considérés avec beaucoup de précautions.

The aim of this study is to identify the micro-economic determinants of the Burgundy wine. Using yearly data, from 1980 to 1999 concerning : harvest, price downstream, inventories downstream, price uphill, inventories uphill, we proceed in two steps : - first step : we try to establish causal relationships between prices (selling price of the wine-grower to traders) and the price « catalogue » of sellers ; - second step : we increase the number of variable by introducing variables of supply and the level of inventories (wine-grower and trader). In order to realize this analysis we have adopted the VAR methodology by using tests of Granger-causality, as recommended by Toda and Phillips (1993). Our result show a strong relationship between the prices, variables of supply and inventories. They confirm those obtained in the first step and show that inventories play a role in the setting of prices.

Background 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) catalyses the transformation of arachidonic acid (AA) into leukotrienes (LTs), which are important lipid mediators of inflammation. LTs have been directly implicated in inflammatory diseases like asthma, atherosclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis; therefore inhibition of LT biosynthesis is a strategy for the treatment of these chronic diseases. Methodology/Principal Findings Analogues of caffeic acid, including the naturally-occurring caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), were synthesized and evaluated for their capacity to inhibit 5-LO and LTs biosynthesis in human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL) and whole blood. Anti-free radical and anti-oxidant activities of the compounds were also measured. Caffeic acid did not inhibit 5-LO activity or LT biosynthesis at concentrations up to 10 µM. CAPE inhibited 5-LO activity (IC50 0.13 µM, 95% CI 0.08–0.23 µM) more effectively than the clinically-approved 5-LO inhibitor zileuton (IC50 3.5 µM, 95% CI 2.3–5.4 µM). CAPE was also more effective than zileuton for the inhibition of LT biosynthesis in PMNL but the compounds were equipotent in whole blood. The activity of the amide analogue of CAPE was similar to that of zileuton. Inhibition of LT biosynthesis by CAPE was the result of the inhibition of 5-LO and of AA release. Caffeic acid, CAPE and its amide analog were free radical scavengers and antioxidants with IC50 values in the low µM range; however, the phenethyl moiety of CAPE was required for effective inhibition of 5-LO and LT biosynthesis. Conclusions CAPE is a potent LT biosynthesis inhibitor that blocks 5-LO activity and AA release. The CAPE structure can be used as a framework for the rational design of stable and potent inhibitors of LT biosynthesis.

The research aims to investigate how the production of meaning in autobiographical performance in dramatherapy can be described as emerging from a relational and embodied encounter between performers and spectators (or witnesses). The study considers how the different levels of interaction within the relational space of autobiographical performance in dramatherapy inform and influence the way in which meaning is created, and the experiences of those involved. The study responds to a need in autobiographical performance research to analyse and understand the processes that enable a connection between the staged experience of the performer and the lived experience of the witness, and how these create new meanings for both. The research therefore aims at exploring the mechanisms underlying and contributing to a process of co-creation of meaning in autobiographical performance in dramatherapy.\ud The research reflects an interdisciplinary approach that brings together theoretical and empirical developments in the fields of dramatherapy, theatre and performance studies, phenomenology and literary studies. The research adopts a multi-method methodological framework that combines performance as research and relational phenomenological research.\ud The findings of the research reveal complex relational dynamics and different levels of intersubjective relationships within the shared space of autobiographical performance, and their impact on the meaning making process. The findings show a reciprocal relationship between the role of the performer and the witness, and the way in which they co-author and complete their respective experiences and their meaning. As part of that dynamic, the research unveils the significance of embodied and pre-reflective processes in the production of meaning. Finally, the research shows how aesthetic processes in autobiographical performances regulate the transformational potential of the encounter between performers and spectators.\ud The research suggests that the production of meaning in autobiographical performance in dramatherapy is located at the intersection between aesthetic, embodied and intersubjective processes that reflect different dimensions of co-creation within the shared space of the performance. It suggests how the shared space of autobiographical performance creates opportunities for individuals to better understand themselves and others in dialogue and in relation with one another.
