This paper selected a sample of US listed companies and conducted correlation analysis and regression analysis on the relevant data of the sample 2021 with the help of Excel and SPSS statistical software in order to clarify the degree of correlation between executive compensation and corporate performance of listed companies. The findings suggest that the two are not correlated, but the reason for this result may be due to the influence of the irresistible general environmental background and the imperfection of the listed companies' executive compensation policies. In order to improve corporate performance, some suggestions are made so that both companies and executives can achieve a win-win situation.

As an individual plant participating in the power market, the virtual power plant (VPP) is regarded as the ultimate configuration of the energy Internet, and effective dispatching is a challenge. This paper proposes a multi-agent optimal bidding strategy based on a self-adaptive global optimal harmony search algorithm (SGHSA) to solve the problem of multi-operator participation in virtual power station scheduling. The method takes multiple agents to simulate the bidding process in the VPPs and distributes the profits for the operators based on the market mechanism to optimize the distributed energy resources (DERs). Case studies are provided and show that the proposed method realizes the optimal distribution of power generation and demand level, which improves the comprehensive advantage of the VPP in electricity market transactions.

The strong excitonic effects widely exist in polymer-semiconductors and the large exciton binding energy (Eb) seriously limits their photocatalysis. Herein, density functional theory (DFT) calculations are conducted to assess band alignment and charge transfer feature of potential donor-acceptor (D-A) covalent organic frameworks (COFs), using 1,3,5-tris(4-aminophenyl)triazine (TAPT) or 1,3,5-tris(4-aminophenyl)benzene (TAPB) as acceptors and tereph-thaldehydes functionalized diverse groups as donors. Given the discernable D-A interaction strengths in the D-A pairs, their Eb can be systematically regulated with minimum Eb in TAPT-OMe. Guided by these results, the corresponding D-A COFs are synthesized, where TAPT-OMe-COF possesses the best activity in photocatalytic H2 production and the activity trend of other COFs is associated with that of calculated Eb for the D-A pairs. In addition, further alkyne cycloaddition for the imine linkage in the COFs greatly improves the stability and the resulting TAPT-OMe-alkyne-COF with a substantially smaller Eb exhibits ~20 times higher activity than the parent COF.

To investigate the mechanical properties of high-strength stainless steel wire mesh (HSSSWM) in Engineering Cementitious Composites (ECCs) and determine a reasonable lap length, a total of 39 specimens in 13 sets were designed and fabricated by considering the diameter of the steel strand, spacing of the transverse steel strand, and lap length. The lap-spliced performance of the specimens was tested through a pull-out test. The results revealed two failure modes in the lap connection of steel wire mesh in ECCs: pull-out failure and rupture failure. The spacing of the transverse steel strand had little effect on the ultimate pull-out force, but it restricted the slip of the longitudinal steel strand. A positive correlation was found between the spacing of the transverse steel strand and the slip amount of the longitudinal steel strand. With an increase in lap length, the slip amount and ‘lap stiffness’ to peak load increased, while the ultimate bond strength decreased. Based on the experimental analysis, a calculation formula for lap strength considering the correction coefficient β was established.

ObjectivePhellodendron amurense, a special species in Northeast Asia, is the source of the wild medicinal Phellodendri Amurensis Cortex, the second-level key protection in China. Because of its dual value of medicine and timber, it has been cut in large quantities, resulting in a sharp decline in wild resources. It has been listed as a national first-class rare tree species. Here, we aim to plan protection area and wild tending area for Chinese P. amurense in the context of climate change.MethodIn this study, based on the Biomod2 model, the main environmental factors affecting the distribution and the potentially suitable areas of the current and future were investigated. Furthermore, the correlation between the main environmental factors and the chemical components was determined by full subset regression. Habitat quality and landscape pattern change were determined by InVEST and Fragstats software based on the land use data in 1980, 2000, and 2020. Then, Zonation software was used to plan the priority protection and wild tending areas.ResultsThe results showed that in the future, the potential habitat of P. amurense will gradually move to the high latitude and high altitude areas in the northwest direction, and the high suitability area will decrease sharply. Since 1980, the habitat quality of P. amurense habitat has gradually deteriorated, and the fragmentation has gradually intensified. In the future, the central part of the Greater Khingan Mountains and the forest area of the Lesser Khingan Mountains will be the long-term stable sanctuary. Fengcheng City and Tonghua County are the most suitable for the wild tending areas.ConclusionThe existing nature reserve only contains 6.01% of the priority protection area, so we propose to expand the area to cover a larger proportion of the sanctuary and implement management and restoration plans to increase the suitability and connectivity. These results can support the protection action and provide a reference and scientific basis for further research, rational development, and utilization of P. amurense.

Purpose:Half of the patients with high-risk neuroblastoma who receive GD2-targeted mAb do not achieve long-term remissions. Recently, the antibody hu14.18 has been linked to IL2 (hu14.18-IL2) to enhance its efficacy and shown promising preclinical and clinical activity. We developed two new immunocytokines (IC) by linking two other γc cytokines, IL15 and IL21, to hu14.18. The purpose of this study was to compare hu14.18-IL15 and -IL21 with hu14.18-IL2 in their ability to induce antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) against neuroblastoma.Experimental Design:We assessed ADCC of hu14.18-IL15 and -IL2 (human cytokines, cross-reactive to mouse) against GD2low and GD2high neuroblastoma cell lines in vitro. T-cell–deficient mice with orthotopic patient-derived xenografts (PDX) and immunocompetent mice with transplantable orthotopic neuroblastoma were used to test all three ICs, including hu14.18-IL21 (murine IL21, not cross-reactive to human). Mechanistic studies were performed using single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq).Results:hu14.18-IL15 and hu14.18-IL2 mediated equivalent in vitro ADCC by human NK cells. When combined with chemotherapy, all three ICs similarly controlled the growth of PDXs in nude mice with murine NK effector cells. However, hu14.18-IL15 and -IL21 outperformed hu14.18-IL2 in immunocompetent mice with syngeneic neuroblastoma, inducing complete tumor regressions and extending survival. scRNA-seq data revealed an increase in CD8+ T cells and M1 tumor-associated macrophages and decreased regulatory T cells and myeloid-derived suppressor cells in the tumor microenvironment.Conclusions:Hu14.18-IL15 and Hu14.18-IL21 exhibit robust preclinical activity, warranting further consideration for clinical testing in patients with GD2-expressing neuroblastoma.

The phenomenon of blocking pipe would appear for a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) rake arm pipe in the construction process. Thus, based on the theory of particle flow mechanics, a transient three-dimensional two-phase hydrodynamic and sediment mixture model was established in this paper. Besides, different particle sizes of sediment concentration and velocity in the piping in the rake arm of the law were analyzed to solve the problem of blocking pipe and the prevention of dredging to provide theoretical support. Then, a model predictive controller was designed to regulate the mudflow in the pipeline by controlling the mud pump speed and compared with the proportional-integral (PI) controller. According to the results, the particle size of sediment affects concentration distribution in the pipeline under the same construction conditions for the TSHD. Besides, the larger the particle size of the sediment, the more significant the difference in the sediment concentration distribution in the pipeline. Similarly, the flow velocity is another influencing factor behind the change in concentration distribution in the pipeline, the increase in the flow velocity will improve the uniformity of concentration distribution in the pipeline, and the critical velocity will maintain the concentration distribution within a reasonable range. In terms of transportation control, the designed predictive model controller is capable of reducing overshoot and shorten the time required for adjustment. To sum up, the research result not only provides a valuable reference for the theoretical analysis and a controller design of the pipeline transportation system in the TSHD but also verifies the feasibility of the computational fluid dynamics model used in the study of pipeline transportation mechanisms.

Background Higher Mediterranean diet (MeD) adherence has been linked with lower depressive symptomatology, but research examining this association is limited, especially among Latinos, including mainland U.S. Puerto Ricans. Hence, we examined cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between MeD adherence and self-reported depressive symptomatology in Boston area Puerto Rican adults. Methods The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) was used to evaluate depressive symptoms. Adherence to MeD was assessed at all 3 visits. We used multivariable linear regression for baseline cross-sectional analysis, and linear mixed effects modeling over 3 waves of follow-up for longitudinal analysis. We also assessed whether baseline MeD adherence affected 5y CES-D trajectory. We conducted sensitivity analyses among participants without diabetes, and among participants with complete MeD and CES-D measures at all visits. Results MeD adherence was significantly associated with CES-D score at baseline (β = −2.0, 95% confidence interval [CI] −4.0, −0.04 for highest vs lowest tertile, p trend = .04) and across 3 waves (β = −1.9, 95% CI = −3.0, −0.8 for highest vs lowest tertile, p trend = .0005). Results were similar in analyses restricted to participants without diabetes, as well as among participants with complete CES-D and MeD scores at all visits. Conclusions While CES-D score was consistently lower in those with higher MeD adherence over 5 years of follow up, no relationship between baseline MeD adherence and 5y CES-D trajectory was observed.

Effect of tamoxifen (TAM) on protein levels of genes in unfolded protein response (UPR) and autophagy pathways in the mammary glands and tumors

Purpose: Whether it is safe for estrogen receptor–positive (ER+) patients with breast cancer to consume soy isoflavone genistein remains controversial. We compared the effects of genistein intake mimicking either Asian (lifetime) or Caucasian (adulthood) intake patterns to that of starting its intake during tamoxifen therapy using a preclinical model.Experimental Design: Female Sprague-Dawley rats were fed an AIN93G diet supplemented with 0 (control diet) or 500 ppm genistein from postnatal day 15 onward (lifetime genistein). Mammary tumors were induced with 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA), after which a group of control diet–fed rats were switched to genistein diet (adult genistein). When the first tumor in a rat reached 1.4 cm in diameter, tamoxifen was added to the diet and a subset of previously only control diet–fed rats also started genistein intake (post-diagnosis genistein).Results: Lifetime genistein intake reduced de novo resistance to tamoxifen, compared with post-diagnosis genistein groups. Risk of recurrence was lower both in the lifetime and in the adult genistein groups than in the post-diagnosis genistein group. We observed downregulation of unfolded protein response (UPR) and autophagy-related genes (GRP78, IRE1α, ATF4, and Beclin-1) and genes linked to immunosuppression (TGFβ and Foxp3) and upregulation of cytotoxic T-cell marker CD8a in the tumors of the lifetime genistein group, compared with controls, post-diagnosis, and/or adult genistein groups.Conclusions: Genistein intake mimicking Asian consumption patterns improved response of mammary tumors to tamoxifen therapy, and this effect was linked to reduced activity of UPR and prosurvival autophagy signaling and increased antitumor immunity. Time-series data augmentation mitigates the issue of insufficient training data for deep learning models. Yet, existing augmentation methods are mainly designed for classification, where class labels can be preserved even if augmentation alters the temporal dynamics. We note that augmentation designed for forecasting requires diversity as well as coherence with the original temporal dynamics. As time-series data generated by real-life physical processes exhibit characteristics in both the time and frequency domains, we propose to combine Spectral and Time Augmentation (STAug) for generating more diverse and coherent samples. Specifically, in the frequency domain, we use the Empirical Mode Decomposition to decompose a time series and reassemble the subcomponents with random weights. This way, we generate diverse samples while being coherent with the original temporal relationships as they contain the same set of base components. In the time domain, we adapt a mix-up strategy that generates diverse as well as linearly in-between coherent samples. Experiments on five real-world time-series datasets demonstrate that STAug outperforms the base models without data augmentation as well as state-of-the-art augmentation methods., ICASSP 2023

CoicisSemen is an important food product and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) derived from the dried and mature seeds of Coix lacryma-jobi L.var.ma-yuen (Roman.) Stapf. An increasing number of studies have investigated its use, either alone or in combination with other botanical drugs, to treat female reproductive system malignancies, and its pharmacological effects have been confirmed clinically. This review aims to provide an overview of Coicis Semen’s historical role in treating female reproductive system malignancies based on TCM theory, to summarize clinical trials results, and to analyze information pertaining to the main phytochemical components, pharmacokinetics, related anti-cancer pharmacological effects, and toxicology of Coicis Semen. Information on Coicis Semen was collected from internationally accepted scientific databases. Seventy-four clinical trials were identified that used Coicis Semen in combination with other Chinese medicine to treat female reproductive system malignancies, most of which demonstrated good anti-tumor efficacy and few adverse reactions. To date, more than 80 individual compounds have been isolated from this botanical drug. In terms of anti-tumor effects, Coix seed oil has been studied the most. Pharmacokinetic data suggest that the active ingredients in Coicis Semen are widely distributed after administration, and Coicis Semen and its active compounds play a beneficial role in treating female reproductive system malignancies. Mechanistically, the anti-cancer effects may be related to inhibition of tumor cell proliferation and promotion of apoptosis, inhibition of tumor angiogenesis, suppression of the chronic inflammatory microenvironment of tumors, modulation of immune function, and regulation of the female reproductive system. Most acute toxicity and genotoxicity studies have shown that Coicis Semen is non-toxic. However, the existing studies have many limitations, and the future research direction should emphasize 1) the relationship between drug concentration and pharmacological action as well as toxicity; 2) the structural modification or the synthesis of analogues led by the active ingredients of Coicis Semen to enhance pharmacological activities and bioavailability; 3) accurately revealing the anti-cancer pharmacological effects of Coicis Semen and its compounds through multi-omics technology. We hope that this review can determine future directions and inform novel drug development for treating female reproductive malignancies.

The number of synthetic strategies used to functionalize MOFs with polymers is rapidly growing; this stems from the knowledge that non-native polymeric guests can significantly boost MOF performance in a number of desirable applications. The current work presents a scalable and solid-state method for MOF/polymer composite production. This simple method constitutes mixing a MOF powder, namely, Fe-BTC (BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate), with a biomass-derived solid monomer, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), and subsequently heating the solids; the latter promotes both solid-state diffusion of HMF into the MOF and the formation of polymeric humin species with a high density of accessible hydroxyl functionality within the MOF pore. The resulting composite, Fe-BTC/humin, was found to selectively extract Ag+ ions from laundry wastewater. Subsequent reduction of the Ag+ species yields a novel catalyst, Fe-BTC/humin/Ag, that is able to drive the organic transformation of cinnamaldehyde in a highly selective manner. Moreover, the catalyst exhibited recyclability up to five cycles, which is in contrast to the Fe-BTC/Ag catalyst without the humin-based polymer. It is envisioned that MOF/polymer composites that are able to selectively extract precious metals from liquid waste streams can be used for the future production of sustainable catalysts; this work was aimed at demonstrating a proof of concept in this regard. Moreover, this study brings more understanding of the impact that MOFs can have on polymer functionalities. Understanding the polymer structure and how it can be manipulated will help us realize the high degree of future potential of this distinct class of composite materials.

Federated Learning (FL) has gained increasing interest in recent years as a distributed on-device learning paradigm. However, multiple challenges remain to be addressed for deploying FL in real-world Internet-of-Things (IoT) networks with hierarchies. Although existing works have proposed various approaches to account data heterogeneity, system heterogeneity, unexpected stragglers and scalibility, none of them provides a systematic solution to address all of the challenges in a hierarchical and unreliable IoT network. In this paper, we propose an asynchronous and hierarchical framework (Async-HFL) for performing FL in a common three-tier IoT network architecture. In response to the largely varied delays, Async-HFL employs asynchronous aggregations at both the gateway and the cloud levels thus avoids long waiting time. To fully unleash the potential of Async-HFL in converging speed under system heterogeneities and stragglers, we design device selection at the gateway level and device-gateway association at the cloud level. Device selection chooses edge devices to trigger local training in real-time while device-gateway association determines the network topology periodically after several cloud epochs, both satisfying bandwidth limitation. We evaluate Async-HFL's convergence speedup using large-scale simulations based on ns-3 and a network topology from NYCMesh. Our results show that Async-HFL converges 1.08-1.31x faster in wall-clock time and saves up to 21.6% total communication cost compared to state-of-the-art asynchronous FL algorithms (with client selection). Noradrenergic neuroblastoma is characterized by a core transcriptional regulatory circuitry (CRC) comprised of transcription factors (TF) such as PHOX2B, HAND2, and GATA3, which form a network with MYCN. At normal physiologic levels, MYCN mainly binds to promoters but when aberrantly upregulated as in neuroblastoma, MYCN also binds to enhancers. Here, we investigated how MYCN invades enhancers and whether CRC TFs play a role in this process. HAND2 was found to regulate chromatin accessibility and to assist MYCN binding to enhancers. Moreover, HAND2 cooperated with MYCN to compete with nucleosomes to regulate global gene transcription. The cooperative interaction between MYCN and HAND2 could be targeted with an Aurora A kinase inhibitor plus a histone deacetylase inhibitor, resulting in potent downregulation of both MYCN and the CRC TFs and suppression of MYCN-amplified neuroblastoma tumor growth. This study identifies cooperation between MYCN and HAND2 in neuroblastoma and demonstrates that simultaneously targeting MYCN and CRC TFs is an effective way to treat this aggressive pediatric tumor.Significance:HAND2 and MYCN compete with nucleosomes to regulate global gene transcription and to drive a malignant neuroblastoma phenotype.

BackgroundAs a malignant digestive system tumor, pancreatic cancer has unique metabolic characteristics. In recent years, the study of pancreatic cancer metabolism is in full swing, which provides a new direction for the treatment of pancreatic cancer patients. However, there is no systematic report of pancreatic cancer metabolism. In this paper, bibliometrics and visualization methods were used to analyze the number of publications, countries/regions, authors, institutions, journals, co-cited references, and keywords of pancreatic cancer metabolism articles, to summarize the research trends and predict research hotspots.MethodsWe searched, screened and downloaded articles on pancreatic cancer metabolism through the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Using CiteSpace, VOSviewer and Bibliometrix Package to analyze publications, countries/regions, authors, institutions, journals, co-cited references, and keywords of pancreatic cancer metabolism to identify research trends and predict research hotspots.ResultsAccording to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 5,255 articles were retrieved during the period 1943-2022. The number of publications on pancreatic cancer metabolism is increasing year by year. The United States (n=1602, 30.49%), China (n=1074, 20.44%), and Italy (n=313, 5.96%) are the three countries with the largest number of publications and citations, and there is close cooperation between countries. LI J (n=55) is the most prolific author. FUDAN UNIV (n=348) is the most published institution. CANCERS (n=118), PLOS ONE (n=93), and CANCER RESEARCH (n=80) are the most popular journals in this field. “Nutriment-deficient environment”, “cancer chemoprevention” and “targeting cancer stem cell” are the main areas of focus. “immunotherapy”, “ferroptosis” and “targeted therapy” are hot keywords in recent years. Taking pancreatic cancer metabolism as an entry point to study the role of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) mainly focuses on curcumin and resveratrol, lack of broader and deeper research on TCM.ConclusionsThe number of publications on pancreatic cancer metabolism has generally increased, and scholars have generally paid more attention to this field. “immunotherapy”, “ferroptosis” and “targeted therapy” are the current research hotspots. The in-depth study of pancreatic cancer metabolism will provide new ideas for the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

Piezoelectric sensors can be utilized in Lamb-wave-based structural health monitoring (SHM), which is an effective method for aircraft structural damage detection. However, due to the inherent stiffness, brittleness, weight, and thickness of piezoelectric ceramics, their applications in aircraft structures with complex curved surfaces are seriously restricted. Herein, we report a flexible, light-weight, and high-performance BaTiO3:Sm2O3/SrRuO3/SrTiO3/mica film sensor that can be used in high-temperature SHM of aircraft. Enhanced ferroelectric Curie temperature (487 °C) and piezoelectric coefficient d33 (120-130 pm/V) are achieved in BaTiO3, which can be attributed to the tensile strain developed by stiff Sm2O3 nanopillars. Stable ferroelectricity and piezoelectricity are retained up to 150 °C. The flexible BaTiO3:Sm2O3/SrRuO3/SrTiO3/mica film is validated as an ultrasonic sensor with high sensitivity and stability for damage monitoring on aircraft structures with the curved surface ranging from 25 to 150 °C. Our work demonstrates that flexible and light-weight BaTiO3:Sm2O3/SrRuO3/SrTiO3/mica film sensors can be employed as high-temperature piezoelectric sensors for real-time SHM of aircraft structures with complex curved surfaces.
