The life history traits of blow fly Cochliomyia macellaria(Fabricius, 1775) was studied under semi-controlled laboratory conditions at 29.14°C temperature, 72.53% relative humidity, and 12-h photoperiod. The raw data were analyzed based on the age-stage, two-sex life table, considering the development rates among individuals of both sexes. Cochliomyia macellariasurvival rate was 0.43 (♂) and 0.40 (♀), while life expectancy was 17.9 (♂) and 20.9 (♀) days, for adult males and females, respectively. The total fecundity was 681.15 eggs/female, with an average of 3.65 batches/female and 199 eggs/batch. The intrinsic rate of increase (r) was 0.327 days−1, the finite rate of population increase (λ) was 3.35 days−1, the mean generation time (T) was 17.15 days, and the net reproduction rate (R0) was 272.46 offspring/individual. The population parameters found here corroborates that C. macellariapopulation act as a rselected species under laboratory conditions. Additionally, development data and accumulated degree days (ADD) for each stage of C. macellariaare provided and its implications for the forensic use are discussed.

Abstract: A review of the mechanisms of homogeneous redox reactions with participation of technetium and related elements is given. The mechanisms are classified and comparatively studied. Mechanisms known with technetium participation are scarce and of recent study, hence the possibility of further interesting investigations is suggested.

Abstract: The oxidation of glutathione and thioglycolic acid by pertechnetate ion has been studied. In each case a reaction mechanism is proposed which is in agreement with the experimental kinetic orders, and which satisfactorily accounts for all other experimental findings. Rate constants and Arrhenius parameters are reported.

The kinetics of crystal growth of calcium oxalate seed crystals were investigated conductimetrically and potentiometrically at several ionic strengths, in stable calcium oxalate supersatured solutions. An apparent rate order of 2 at all the ionic strengths tested suggested a spiral growth mechanism. The presence of aspartic acid in the supersaturated solution inhibited crystal growth. Application to a kinetic Langmuir-type model suggested that adsorption of the aminoacid at the active growth sites is the cause of the reduction in the crystal growth rates. Adsorption studies revealed that inhibition of crystal growth was enhanced at lower solution ionic strengths. This ionic strength dependence indicated that the calcium oxalate-aminoacid interaction is mainly electrostatic in its nature.

Summary The pertechnetate ion oxidizes L-cysteine in strong acid to form yellow and violet (?max=430 and 550 nm) species. A reaction mechanism has been determined which satisfactorily accounts for all the experimental findings. The results obtained support the postulate that the yellow species is a technetium(V)-cystine complex and the violet a technetium(V)-cysteine complex. The rate constants and Arrhenius parameters are reported.
