The goal of this investigation was to look into the influence of the Sharia board on profit administration in ASEAN Islamic banks. A total of 20 samples were collected from Islamic banks in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam between 2014 and 2021 Furthermore, using Eviews, the evaluation was carried out using more than one linear regression using panel statistics. The variable loss mortgage provision was once employed as a substitute for income management. The Sharia Supervisory Board, Board of Commissioners, Audit Committee, Net Profit, and nonperforming loans were all covered under the banks' changeable features. The studies revealed that the Sharia Supervisory Board, the Board of Commissioners, and Nonperforming Loans all had a significant impact on revenues administration. In the meantime, Net Profit, as well as the Audit Committee, had little impact. In addition, the Sharia Board has an important role in determining earnings administration policies. These findings aided the advancement of Islamic banking science as a viable alternative to traditional banking, particularly in terms of tax administration. This study aimed to obtain data from previous studies on the relevance culture of Islamic economic principles and democracy and welfare based on the Pancasila ideology. Our data search was conducted electronically on many international and national publications between 2010 and 2021. Furthermore, our data has been analyzed involving several techniques such as data analysis, interpretation, in-depth analysis of critical evaluation, and drawing conclusions that can answer the question of this study. We are looking for references between Islamic economic principles and Pancasila economics. Based on Wah and his discussion, he was surprised to find evidence of the studies developing Islamic economics and its principles, welfare, and economic democracy based on Pancasila. This is because most Muslims mutually agree upon the two sources as residents of Indonesia. Arabic language and this study are essential inputs for developing the following Islamic economics study. Blended learning (BL) has been a popular mode of course delivery in higher education, aiming to provide students with better learning experiences by integrating face-to-face (f2f) instructions and affordances of digital technology. However, lack of knowledge about how students perceive BL cross-disciplines can make it difficult for teachers to provide consistent learning experiences to students, yielding inequity in learning experiences. This study aims to explore how university students perceive BL, and to compare differences in perceptions across subjects. Participants were 407 university students from eight subject disciplines. Data were collected through a questionnaire and were analyzed using SPSS. A one-way ANOVA was performed to compare the differences between the groups. Results showed, students were generally happy about the use of BL, despite facing multiple barriers in using the learning approach. Results further revealed that students studying tourism/hospitality, and business subjects were more negative about BL, while students in science, and Islamic studies faculties were more receptive to BL compared to the rest of the university. This study aimed at creating LMS-based blended learning using the Web-Centric Course (WCC) model for Islamic studies as a course according to the curriculum demands. This study was an R&D (Research and Development) with ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluate) design as the learning model combined with the steps of research development by Borg and Gall. The finding of this study is a Blended Learning Model based on Problem Based Learning in Islamic Studies Course. Respondents in this study in measuring the practicality, effectiveness of students who were distributed to 32 students to test the practicality, effectiveness of the Blended Learning model (Big Group) and 10 students to test the practicality, effectiveness of the Blended Learning (Small Group) model who were taking Islamic studies courses. The development of this model is supported by textbook, model book product, lecturer manuals, student manuals, application manuals, e-learning. The result of the product validity analysis indicates that all the product in this study was valid. The result of practicality analysis by lecturer and student show that everything is practical. Early exposure to innovative teaching strategies is vital for preservice teachers' preparation for their subsequent teaching careers. This paper aimed to challenge preservice Islamic studies teachers at Kuwait University to enhance their autonomous learning by assigning them the task of designing a reverse learning project. The participants completed various phases to finalize the project. This exposition and exploration aimed to develop their sense of autonomy, selfregulation, responsibility, technology and design skills, and ability to incorporate the task into their specialized subject matter. The mechanism and practices that participants acquired through designing and executing the reverse learning project were examined qualitatively and quantitively to unveil the effect of this experience on their autonomous learning skills. The results revealed that exposing the participants to the reverse learning project promoted their sense of and beliefs toward self-regulation, responsibility, technology integration, and design for subsequent Islamic studies teaching. The positive learning experiences increased the participants' emotional, cognitive, and manageability levels; however, the findings demonstrate the need for further research on preservice teachers in other specializations and designing reverse learning projects. Keeping this historical reality in mind, it is evident that the story of Islam involves peoples of many different races, ethnicities and cultures, many literatures and languages, with many histories, and a myriad of interpretations some of which may in conflict with each other. The Islamic Cultural Studies course is an invitation to explore a small slice of the rich and dazzling diversity that characterizes the worlds of Islam by examining the dynamic interaction between religious beliefs and practices and their political, economic, social, literary, and artistic contexts across time and space. Besides exposure to new content material, the course is also intended to equip you with the tools to analyze and think critically about what it means to study not only Islam, but any other religious tradition in its cultural contexts. In this broader sense, this course is about how to study religion in an academic context. The underlying premise of the course - knowledge is culturally constructed - is as applicable to the study of the Christian, Jewish, Buddhist or Hindu traditions as it is to the study of Islam. To properly understand the role of religions in human societies, the course contends, we must go beyond descriptive summaries of beliefs and practices and look at them as a living and dynamic traditions that are constantly changing according to context and circumstance of their adherents. Islamic Civilization is acknowledged for its distinguished characteristics in civilizational studies and it secures these unique dynamics due to its fundamental principles. Although it has been area of interest among the eminent intellects of the East and the West, but most often it is evaluated in the opposition to the Western Civilization under 'us versus them' framework. This approach must lead to selective perception of the 'Other'. Essentially, Islamic Civilization possess its own unpretentious aspects which are obtained from its foundations; Quran and Sunnah. The education sector in Pakistan has remained a great victim of government's lopsided policies over the years, and it ultimately brings forward a negative image of the country. Therefore, this article aims at focusing on one of the prime subjects i.e., Islamiyat (Islamic Studies), which is being taught as a compulsory subject at public schools, across Pakistan. This study finds out that this subject contains a number of negative terms, as compared to the positive ones. The paper tries to elaborate the contextualization of the negative terms in the Islamiyat of Punjab province, after the 18th Amendment in the Constitution. The study suggests that since the education sector has been made a provincial subject, therefore the Government of Punjab should consider redesigning the entire curriculum of this subject to refrain the youth from being violent radicals. In this paper, I outline a propaedeutics of Islamic legal studies. I am using the term "propaedeutic" to refer to scholarship and pedagogy that introduces audiences to new material in a way that structures their curiosities and asks them to rethink commonplace familiar situations and assumptions. Those who teach about Islamic law in North American Islamic studies are working in an environment shaped by distinctive anxieties and preconceptions. Engaged scholarship informed by thinkers such as Wael Hallaq and Talal Asad seeks to disentangle conceptions of law from modern expectations of law enforcement, codification, and the supervisory neutrality of the state to consider other deliberations and practices of justice. Such propaedeutic scholarship should suggest how religious legal authority deals with more than just "spiritual" and "personal" matters. Imprecise introduction to the idea that Islamic legal opinion is non-binding can unintentionally imply that such opinion makes only moral suggestion that one chooses to follow or not. Scholars critical of Max Weber's judgment that Islamic jurisprudence amounts to little more than arbitrary invocations of authority should be careful not to present Islamic jurists as merely creatively "free" to be unsystematic and their decisions inconsequential if following them is not coerced. Drawing on the work of Hussein Agrama, I explore the idea of fatwa discernment as guiding counsel directed not at adversarial procedure but at ethical self-formation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to determine the requirements of students with regards to the quality of services provided by the Management Department at the World Islamic Sciences and Education University as well as the role of each requirement needed to achieve student satisfaction. To carry out this study, the expectations and perceptions the students had regarding the quality of services provided compared to what was actually provided were analyzed. The negative gaps were then identified and the resulting characteristics and requirements of these gaps were introduced into a two-dimensional Kano model in order for the customer's voice to be measured. The quality of the requirements needed was then divided into five categories. In order to be more reflective of reality, the best value and worst value of each requirement was calculated. This helped to determine the role that these requirements played in either increasing or reducing the satisfaction or dissatisfaction of students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The existing studies on Islamic tourism lack consideration of a particular form of Islamic practice, Sufism or "Islamic mysticism," which is seen as a more moderate and apolitical form of Islam in the West. The Sufi sheikhs' perceptions towards visitors at their sacred sites remain underresearched. This is despite the fact that Sufi religious sites exist throughout a number of African and Asian countries, providing pilgrimage sites and retreat centers for both Muslim visitors and those of other faiths. Although a number of academic studies examine the host/guest relationship at different sacred sites of various religions, minimal academic research has been conducted on how tourism and tourists are perceived in an Islamic, particularly a Sufi Islamic, context. This research note aims to demonstrate and raise awareness concerning the lack of research of tourism at Sufi Islamic sites, and specifically research exploring the perspectives of Sufi host communities. How Sufi sheikhs perceive tourism development and how they cope with challenges created by visitors at their sacred sites are necessary questions for researchers and tourism planners in the Muslim world to consider in the future. Purpose: The aim of our study was to identify the perceptions of students and lecturers at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta (UIN Jakarta) regarding the concept of an integrated curriculum implemented at the university, differences in perceptions between the two groups, and problems encountered during the curriculum's implementation. Methods: A descriptive quantitative research study was conducted with 670 students and 90 lecturers from 11 faculties at UIN Jakarta. The student samples consisted of 270 men and 400 women, while lecturer samples consisted of 44 men and 46 women. Data were collected via interviews and a perceptual questionnaire consisting of 54 items scored on a 4-point Likert scale. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, a t test, and confirmatory factor analysis. Findings: Although both students and lecturers had positive perceptions of the concept of the integrated curriculum, the students' perceptions were more favorable than the lecturers'. Problems encountered during the implementation of the integrated curriculum included the absence of clear guidelines for implementing the integrated curriculum, the lack of lecturers' competencies to implement the integration in learning processes, the lack of specific nomenclature about the integration concept, and limited time allotted to learning Islamic studies in the natural sciences program. Implications for Research and Practice: Few obstacles have hindered the successful implementation of the integrated curriculum throughout the faculties at UIN Jakarta. The findings have informed the development of a blueprint and clear guidelines for implementing an integrated curriculum that other Islamic institutions of higher education in Indonesia and other countries can use to deliver integrated studies. Coinciding with the rise of Islamophobia in the United States is a small but growing set of educational scholarship around the curricular impact of and response to Islamophobia. The qualitative case study discussed in this manuscript aims to contribute to this conversation by investigating how Muslim girls from minority communities of interpretation (n=6) made sense of and responded to the curriculum on Islam in their Social Studies classes. The central finding describes how sample students responded to Islamophobia in the classroom by building bridges across differences. Jacques Derrida believed that metaphysics in the West has involved installing hierarchies, orders, and binaries in which one party enjoys the presence of a feature that the other party wants. Every succession relies on the idea of originariness, and thus the identity of the latter depends upon the former, for the presence of one element takes priority to its absence. This is how a binary opposition comes to being. Although basing his ideas on Saussure's philosophy of language, Derrida objected to the latter's "binary opposition" on the grounds that the interpretations predicated on this thought were called into question because there is no true opposition between a pair of notions. This protest led him to create binary pairs. This article reveals the problems accompanying the conception of the binary pair and offer alternatives. The researcher does not mean to reject the binary pair itself; however, underlining this idea in a way that obstructs other paths will be questioned and some supplementary notions for the binary opposition and binary pair will be proposed. The study of Islam at many universities around the world has been on the increase for the past three decades for various regions. In South Africa, where it was initiated by Semiticists in Semitic Studies departments and Missiologists in Missiology courses, its study gradually developed into full courses. Since the popularity of "Islamic studies" has been of interest to secular academics as well, the country's University of the Free State (UFS) proposed the offering of a Baccalaureus Divinitatis Degree in Islamic studies. But before doing so, the university decided to host a colloquium to which the organizing committee invited various stakeholders. This essay contextualizes this colloquium by locating the teaching and study of Islam in a broad South(ern) African context and offers a critical report on the ensuing two-day colloquium. Self-regulated learning and motivation is important aspects of students' learning and academic performance in a classroom context. This study aims at investigating the differences in self-regulated learning and motivation between the Islamic and non-Islamic stream students; and examining relationships between self-regulated learning, motivation and academic performance. Eight hundred and twenty five universities students were involved in this study. A self-report measure of students metacognitive self-regulation, help seeking, organization, effort regulation, self-efficacy, intrinsic and extrinsic goal orientation, task value and test anxiety was administered, and academic performance data were obtained from students' cumulative grade point average (CGPA). The study uses a questionnaire as the information-gathering instrument. The questionnaire was based on the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ). T-test results indicated that students from Islamic studies background prefer using more strategies to score extrinsic goal orientation than non-Islamic studies students, and conversely, non-Islamic studies students practice metacognitive self-regulation strategies and organization strategies more than Islamic studies students did. Correlation analysis revealed that self-efficacy, intrinsic and extrinsic goal orientation, task value and test anxiety were positively related to metacognitive self-regulation, help seeking and organization. Regression analyses showed that test anxiety and intrinsic goal orientation appeared as the best predictors of academic performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

American author Donald Moffitt's science fiction (SF) series The Mechanical Sky, consisting of two books, Crescent in the Sky (1989) and A Gathering of Stars (1990), portrays a universe where various religious denominations exist, and where an Islamic caliphate is established, aiming at universal Islamic dominance. The purpose of this article is to analyze the series pertaining to its representations of Islam and Muslims, and to explain the Islamic framing in contextualizing the series in the historical situation when the series was produced. Moreover, another aim of the article concerns the methodological problems that such an analysis of the Islamic framing may entail. The article calls for the need to reflect seriously on interpretative perspectives when a scholar in the study of religions enters the field of SF, which has its own definitional problems and genre-specific traits that must be taken into consideration. Islamic studies and Islamic research have gained a lot of interest and considerable attention from researchers, policy makers, and practitioners during the last few years as a result of the demanding desire to know more about Islam. However, regardless of the dominant position held by Islamic stud- ies and Islamic research in today's research world, Islamic tourism is still very much less presented in the literature. This article aims to explore, analyze, and develop a clear understanding about the different factors affecting the adoption of digital marketing (D-marketing) by Islamic tourism organizations (ITOs) by building on the current body of knowledge in the field. The article systematically reviews the literature related to digital marketing adoption to understand its adoption by organizations working in Islamic tourism sectors. Based on this review and through linking digital marketing, technology adoption, technology diffusion, and Islamic Shariah theories, a conceptual model that links five factors (namely: internal environmental forces, external environmental forces, digital marketing adoption, digital marketing implementation, and digital marketing performance) is proposed to provide a clear understanding about the different factors affecting the adoption of digital marketing by Islamic tourism organizations. Future research is encouraged to build on this framework to test how internal and external environmental forces of Islamic tourism enterprises, along with its digital marketing implementation, influence its performance. The article presents a qualitative study on Sufi spirituality and the code of Islam in the everyday practices of people who frequent to a Sufi group in Milan, Italy. It informs that the Sufism is a distinct form of Islamic mysticism that unites the code of Islam and the spiritual realm for the practitioners. It further informs that Sufi spirituality provides a chance for self-evaluation for their followers and practitioners as it is interrelated with the process of the subjectivization of religious experience through the involvement of the body. It is concluded that the social acceptance of Sufism among non-Muslim born Western adults seemed to lie in the unification of Koranic, liturgical and spiritual forms of mysticisms.

A curriculum revision task that seems compelling in 2011, ten years after 9/11/2001, is "Islamicizing" my part in an art history and General Education liberal arts curriculum. Standard art history survey texts include historical sections on Islamic visual traditions but decline to integrate new information on the ways in which medieval Islamic scholars contributed to the foundation of the 15th and 16th century Renaissances in Europe, or the ways in which global trade and cultural contact influenced the appearance of visual art of that time and region, and in later centuries. Recent re-evaluators of Islamic cultural contributions make a strong case for a re-definition of "Renaissance" in terms of Islamic impetus. Early Islamic scholars' claim that faith and reason could co-exist without undue tension, a claim taken up by liberal medieval scholars in Europe, laid a foundation of Renaissance secularization and Humanism. Recent acknowledgment of long-standing European and American anti-Islamic bias makes it problematic to continue considering Muslims as simply "accidental custodians" of Greek and Roman wisdom and culture. Classroom discussion of influential scientific, medical, philosophical and cultural contributions of Islamic scholars, as well as the borrowing by Italian painters from imported Islamic textiles, ceramics, metalwork and Arabic script, is essential to construct a more accurate picture of European/Middle Eastern exchange. Work by contemporary Islamic artists can also help reveal current issues in an evolving Middle Eastern setting, in regard to contemporary Islamic theology and practice and Euro/American political and cultural interrelations. The article discusses the role of Ṣūfism, or taṣawwuf, in the spread of Islam in the Malay world. The authors argue that the teaching of taṣawwuf has declined and that it needs to be revived in order to preserve authentic Islamic civilization in the region. It is suggested that such a revival will also help to defend Islamic civilization from the negative aspects of neo-colonialism and globalisation. Details related to the history of ṣūfī orders in Malay civilization are also presented. Other topics include Western views of Ṣūfism, the tarekat practice of Ṣūfism, and Islamic education in Malay society.

As stated in its first issue, Anali Gazi Husrev-begove biblioteke were launched in 1972 with the aim of furthering the main task of Gazi Husrev-begova Library, which is the scholarly study of its manuscripts and of various issues in the field of Islamic studies and Bosnian history. This bibliography consists of 394 articles which have appeared in 16 volumes to date on 5,032 pages and penned by 148 authors. In terms of the presented content, the names of the authors are ordered alphabetically, with each author’s works given in chronological order. The title of each article is given in Bosnian with an English translation. The aim of the bibliography is to make the diverse material published in Anali more accessible to survey and use. The speech "Holy Ground: A Space to Share" is presented, composed by Islamic studies professor A. H. Johns for the 2010 Pakistan History Conference, held at Multan, Pakistan from March 17-18, 2010. He discusses the history of his scholarly interest in Islam from his time as a British soldier in postwar Malaya to his doctoral studies in Sufism and his lifelong study of the Koran.

The article presents an analysis of Hadith collections, in particular the "al-Sihah Sittah," or six principle collections considered canonical by Sunni Muslims, as well as another collection, the "Muwatta" of Imam Malik (715-795). The author questions why the text of Imam Malik, who inspired the Maliki school of Islamic jurisprudence, should not be included among the most important books of Hadith in Sunni Islam. He also questions why the sixth book, that of Imam Ibn Majah (824-886), is included instead.

This study presents the result of various bibliometric patterns of articles published by the Jurnal Syariah for the period of 1993-2007. This Malaysian academic journal is devoted to the field of classical Islamic Law and its applications in modern times today. Data from each selected issue of the Jurnal Syariah were collected and statistically analysed using the Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS). The study looked at variables which include authorship patterns, length of articles, number of articles published, author productivity, contributing institutions and subject area patterns. Among the significant findings are that single authorship is prevalent and accounted for about 90% of the articles published and the total number of articles published for the period of 1993-2007 was 285 articles. It was found that 89% of the articles were published in the Malay language. As for the references used, 98% were books, and 39% were journals cited. This study has demonstrated that despite its fifteen years of existence and multidisciplinary approach, contributors and citations of this journal has not yet international. Henceforth, this article provides significant suggestions and strategies for the future of the Jurnal Syariah. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A photographic essay is presented on traditional Islamic scholarship and the study of manuscripts in Timbuktu, Mali.

An interview with Sallama Shaker, a visiting professor of Islamic Studies and Middle East Studies at Yale University in Connecticut, is presented. She shares that she was impressed with the speech delivered by U.S. President Barack Obama about bringing a better understanding of the Muslim world to the U.S. She believes that education is one of the avenues through which U.S.-Muslim relations could be improved. She comments on the issue of women's empowerment in the Middle East.

The article traces the course of Islamic studies in the Western world beginning from the middle ages to modern times underlining the importance of interactions that punctuated the history of the Western and Eastern world. It examines the role of stereotyping particularly orchestrated by Orientalists that popularized the negative image of Muslims as a threat to world peace. It asserts that it is gratifying that recent upsurge in interest in Islamic studies is driven by desire for knowledge of foreign culture and not by imperialistic aspirations.
