The right of self-determination of peoples has played an very important role in the dissolution process of colonialism. However, due to the release of economic order which would be continued by their economic colonies while colonial states was purging their colonies, the distortion of this order is intended with the appearance of the right of the economic self-determination of peoples which is the new form of self-determination right. Thereby peoples who gained independence with the emergence of the right of self-determination have been made to get rid of colonialism actually. At the present time, right of economic self-determination has gaining importance again in order to ensure the benefit of African people from potential of economic development which especially began to be seen in Africa. Asian, European and even American lands are not regarded to be as productive as they used to be because of the application of modern agriculture techniques and chemical fertilizers throughout the 20th Century. In this respect, the virgin African territories are invaluable in terms of production quality. Furthermore, based on the ever-increasing energy demand, there has been an increase in demand for fosil fuels, hence their prices, whereas an observable decrease in their reserves. Consequently, in conjunction with the increase in several developed countries in the demand for biofuels, such countries with visibly-limited cultivable lands as Germany, United States, Belgium, Denmark, France, England, Spain, Israel, Italy, Canada and Norway are nowadays observed to have systematically directed their interest in such African fertile lands with comparatively higher biofuel resources, by means of either direct purchasing or longer-term leasing. Botswana, a South African country, is one of the examples that is to change the perceptions of instability and under-development in Africa. While it was among the poorest countries of Africa when it became independent, Botswana underwent a rapid economic growth following the discovery of diamond in 1967. By virtue of the policies aiming at sustainable development, it became one of the fastest growing economies of the world. Furthermore, Botswana was called as "an African success story". Parallel to the economical growth, Botswana managed to be a politically stable country. Botswana is one of the rare African countries that have never experienced a military coup d'état. This article deals with how Botswana managed to develop exceptionally while many African countries were experiencing political instability and economical collapse even though they had as much underground minerals as Botswana had.
