The author reflects on her experience of sketching notes during the 2017 annual meeting of the American Anthropological Association (AAA) in Washington, D.C. She expresses her fascination with the power of hand-drawn images to reveal and describe complex truths. She explains her views that drawing is an essential tool for thinking and the importance of holding back and waiting for the key messages to emerge before sketching.

Information is presented about several papers delivered at the "New Dialogue on Race" Conference held January 12-13, 2010 sponsored by the American Anthropological Association to discuss aspects of race, racism, and racial attitudes in the U.S. Topics include the intersectionality of race, issues with Islamophobia or discrimination against Muslims, and racial aspects of international human rights violations. The symposium featured several anthropologists including Leith Mullings, John Jackson, and Maria Vesperi.

An interview with The Visual Anthropology Society at Temple (VAST) is presented along with information on the VAST Futures of Visual Anthropology (FVA) conference. When asked about the ideas that was to be considered at the VAST conference VAST mentions the anthropology of visual communication. VAST's conference included panels, moderated discussions and a film festival.

The author reflects on her involvement in the feminist anthropology organizations New York Women's Anthropology Conference (NYWAC) and International Women's Anthropology Conference (IWAC). She notes anthropological research regarding social aspects of gender, as well as the involvement of anthropologists in the July 1985 "World Conference to Review and Appraise the Achievements of the UN Decade for Women" in Nairobi, Kenya. It is said that anthropologists enabled international cooperation among feminists.

The article offers information on the "Fourth Biennial Taiwan International Ethnographic Film Festival" which was held from September 28-October 2, 2007 in Taipei, Taiwan. Indigenous films from the U.S., China, Nepal, Madagascar, and Taiwan were the main focus of the festival. The indigenous filmmakers Victor Masayesva of the Native American Hopi and Mayaw Biho of the Taiwanese tribe of Pangcah received special commendations and showed some of their work.
