Abstract

The complete genome sequence of Rhodococcus sp. strain RHA1 is analyzed in the biphenyl pathway (BPH) and a microarray with probe for 8,313 genes is developed and employed. The analysis suggests that up to 22 enzymes, including 8 newly identified ones, may function in the BPH pathway of RHA1.

Abstract

A study was conducted to examine the capability of the dehydrogenase and ring cleavage dioxygenase of the naphthalene degradation pathway to change 3,4-dihydroxylated biphenyl metabolites. Escherichia coli M15(pREP4) and SG13009 were utilized as bacterial strains while protein characterization was carried out using sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Results indicated that the recruitment of catabolic enzymes supporting specificities supporting enzymes of the biphenyl degradation pathway may lead to the degradation of polychlorinated biphenyls.

Abstract

The complete sequence of a 182-kb plasmid, pGKT2, from Gordonia sp. KTR9 is described. The studies have shown that hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) degradation by KTR9 is integrated with central nitrogen metabolism and that the uptake of RDX by bacterial cells does not need a dedicated transporter.

The growth on 7KC versus growth on cholesterol has resulted in many differentially expressed genes, including the upregulation of two large gene clusters putatively encoding steroid catabolism.

Abstract

The effects of the propane on the gene expression and biological removal of the water contaminant N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) are examined. The results have shown that propane monooxygenase is responsible for the degradation of NDMA by Rhodococcus sp. strain RHA1 and have explained the increased cometabolic degradation of NDMA in the presence of propane.

Abstract

The transcriptome of RDX (hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine)-degrading strain Gordonia sp. strain KTR9 and its glnR mutant were studied as a function of nitrogen availability to further investigate the observed ammonium-mediated inhibition of RDX degradation. The results indicate that nitrogen availability is a major determinant of RDX degradation and xplA gene expression in KTR9.
