The article presents a study which aims to determine if other firefly luciferases can catalyze enantioselective thioesterification reaction and the enantioselectivity of acyl-coenzyme A (CoA) synthesis of ketoprofen. The study involved five firefly species including Pyrocoelia miyako, Photinus pyralis, and Luciola cruciata and kinetic analysis was calculated by spectrophotometry. Results show that substrate acceptance of luciferases in thioesterification varies from the firefly origin.

The article focuses on a study regarding the purification and gene cloning of α-methyl carboxylic acid deracemizing enzyme 1 (MCAD1) from Brevibacterium ketoglutamicum KU1073. It states that (R)- and (S)-2-(4-chlorophenoxy) propanoic acid (CPPA) prepared through a racemic mixture was used in the study while microorganisms that deracemize CPPA were screened. Results show that MCAD1 should be classified into a medium chain acyl-coenzyme A (CoA) synthetases.

The article evaluates the effectiveness of a microfluidic filter for biochemical reactions by performing a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) of mouse immunoglobulin G IgG). According to the authors, microfluidic filters were fabricated by deep X-ray lithography using synchrotron radiation. They add that mouse IgG could be quantitatively detected in the range of 0-100 mg/ml, showing the applicability of vertical microfluidic operation to the immunoassay.

The article discusses a study which performs purification and characterization of catechol 2,3-dioxygenase (C23O) from the aniline degradation pathway of Acinetobacter species. The purification of C23O was obtained from cell extract of recombinant Escherichia coli. It is revealed that the wild-type enzyme suffered from substrate inhibition at >2 micrometers, while the mutant enzyme loosened substrate inhibition.
