We propose using the formation of coordination polymers of Ag+ to probe differences between the perfluorinated alkyl chain and the alkyl chain by deriving a thiol ligand, N-(perfluoroalkanoyl)cysteine. Rapid formation in EtOH of P-/M-helical nanofibrils of high thermostability was found for N-(perfluorooctanoyl)- L -/ D -cysteine ethyl esters at the μM level upon mixing with Ag+, but not for the octanoyl counterpart. Electrochemically-assisted microwave deposition technology, a facile method for the fabrication of luminescent metal–organic framework (LMOF) films, is presented herein. This method was further developed into a versatile method for preparing patterned LMOF films. We report that the core sequence of amyloid β (Aβ) peptide, KLVFF, when equipped with a C-terminal cysteine residue, exhibited an extremely low minimum hydrogelation concentration of 0.05 wt% in the presence of Ag+ in pH 5 buffer, with this concentration 2 orders of magnitude lower than that of the pentapeptide itself. A practical and general iron-catalyzed domino decarboxylation-oxidation of α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids enabling aldehyde C–H methylation for the synthesis of methyl ketones has been developed. A general and selective iron-catalyzed allylic C–C(vinyl) σ-bond cleavage of allylarenes without the assistance of heteroatoms to give aryl aldehydes is reported. The unstrained carbon–carbon single bond cleavage reaction uses ambient air as the sole oxidant, proceeds efficiently at room temperature, and allows for exceptional functional-group tolerance, which addresses the long-standing challenges of current C–C bond cleavage/functionalization.
