Background: Exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation improves clinical outcomes and quality of life. Technology-enabled delivery of remote cardiac rehabilitation is as effective in improving health outcomes as in-person delivery and has the potential to transform clinical service delivery. However, for the successful translation of research to clinical practice, interventions must be adequately reported in the literature. Methods: Systematic review of MedLine, CINAHL, PubMed and SPORT Discus databases applying PRISMA guidance. Randomised controlled trials of remote or hybrid technology-enabled exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation interventions were included. Completeness of reporting was evaluated against the TIDieR checklist. Results: The search strategy returned 162 articles which, following screening, resulted in 12 randomised trials being included containing data for 1588 participants. No trial fully reported their rehabilitation intervention as per the 12-item TIDieR checklist, with a median score of eight out of 12 categories. Notably, intervention detail, dosage and modification were comparatively poorly reported. Conclusion: Technology-enabled remotely delivered cardiac rehabilitation may be effective at improving cardiovascular fitness; however, the quality of reporting of these interventions in randomised trials is insufficient for replication which has material implications for translation into clinical practice. Purpose: This study synthesizes participant and outcome data from peer-reviewed Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Programme (ICAP) studies. Methods: A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Study eligibility criteria were specified in relation to population, intervention, comparison, outcome, and design considerations. Data were extracted according to six research questions. Narrative synthesis was used. Results: Twenty-one studies were included covering 13 ICAPs (N = 485, aged 18–86 years, between 11 and 335 months post-stroke). Twenty-seven participant selection criteria were identified. Fifty-six outcome measures spanning the WHO-ICF were used, with the majority assessing the body function domain. Only eight studies employed an experimental design with data appropriate for analysis and synthesis. Risk of bias was noted across this sub-group. Participants improved in word-finding, communication, activity/participation, and communication-related quality of life, and maintained their gains; however, except for word finding, evidence of effect came from isolated studies. Factors influencing outcomes were rarely considered. Some drop-outs, missed sessions, and fatigue were noted. Some studies reported IPD alongside group analyses. Conclusions: ICAP selection criteria need justification and should contribute to the understanding of candidacy for this treatment model. Rationalisation of ICAP treatment content and outcome measurement is required, spanning all WHO-ICF domains. Employment of the core outcome set for aphasia would enable data synthesis and facilitate comparisons between the ICAP and other therapy models. Implications for Rehabilitation: Healthcare professionals can use this review to appreciate that the evidence base for intensive and comprehensive aphasia programmes is emerging and based on studies of varying methodological quality and thus findings are not conclusive. Patients across the lifespan and across a range of aphasia severities, and patients who are independent or have support for activities of daily living, can participate in intensive and comprehensive aphasia programmes. Patients can expect improved word finding ability from participation in an intensive and comprehensive aphasia programme, and some patients can experience benefits in functional communication, communication confidence, and aphasia-related quality of life. Outcome measurement from intensive and comprehensive aphasia programmes should encompass language functioning, communication activities/participation, quality of life, and outcomes for family members, and ideally environmental and personal factors should be considered. Purpose: Life after any amputation can be significantly altered and can have a significant impact on quality of life (QoL). However, most of the evidence base involves older aged amputees, therefore there is a lack of understanding about the impact of amputation on QoL and the factors that predict QoL in younger amputees. The aim of this review is to identify the factors that predict QoL in young amputees. Methods: MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Web of Science were searched to identify articles that measured QoL in young amputees. Articles were independently assessed by two assessors. Data was extracted from the selected articles and a narrative synthesis performed. Results: 18 articles were included in this review. QoL outcome measures varied between studies. The quality of evidence was generally low. This review identified, gender, age, cause of amputation, level of amputation, phantom pain, ability to use a prosthesis, physical function, depression, anxiety, body image, type of prosthesis as predictors of QoL. Conclusion: This review identified modifiable and non-modifiable predictors of QoL in young amputees. Future research needs to focus on exploring the modifiable predictors of QoL as these are the aspects that can be improved to enhance QoL. Purpose: This review investigated the effectiveness of adjuvant therapy combined with constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) in improving the paretic upper limb functionality in adults with stroke sequelae during the subacute to chronic rehabilitation phase. Materials and methods: In this systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCT), electronic databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, and MEDLINE, were searched. We included RCTs that investigated the outcomes of adjuvant therapy (i.e. other therapies) added to CIMT compared with CIMT alone. Key trial findings were qualitatively synthesized and analyzed. This meta-analysis examined variables, such as mean scores and standard deviations, using the following outcome measures: Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) upper limb items, Action Research Arm Test (ARAT), Amount of Use (AOU) of Motor Activity Log (MAL), and Quality of Movement (QOM) of MAL. Results: Eighteen eligible RCTs were included in the analysis. Adding CIMT to adjunctive therapy significantly improved FMA compared with CIMT alone (mean difference [MD] 4.02, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.60–5.44; I2 = 85%; 15 studies; 330 participants). Similarly, the ARAT and MAL-AOU scores improved significantly. Conclusions: CIMT combined with several adjunctive therapies effectively improved upper limb function. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: In recent years, clinical trials combining other therapies with Constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) have become increasingly common. This study shows that combining CIMT with adjuvant therapy improves upper limb function. Different protocols of the CIMT in each study could be factor that impacted the results of Motor Activity Log. In clinical practice, the findings of this study into their treatment protocols to improve patient outcomes and ensure the effective application of evidence-based rehabilitation strategies. Objectives: 1. To identify validated quantitative Patient Reported Experience Measures (PREM's) being used in Community Rehabilitation and/or Support services for people with long term neurological conditions (PwLTNC). 2. To explore how data from quantitative PREM's adds to research on patient experiences of Community Rehabilitation and Support for PwLTNC. Method: Eight data bases were searched for peer reviewed studies (2005–2021) which met inclusion criteria. Data extraction and quality assessment for sixteen studies was performed by two reviewers. Narrative synthesis was conducted. Results: Eleven validated PREM's were identified which captured data for 15,831 PwLTNC. PREM scores indicated positive and negative experiences for people with Multiple Sclerosis (n = 13,123), Parkinson's Disease (n = 2215) and Acquired Brain Injury (n = 493). Negative experiences related to Picker Institute Principles: 1 (accessibility); 3 (coordination/continuity); 4 (involvement/support for family and carers); 5 (information provision), 6 (Involvement in decision making) and 7 (empathy and emotional support). Conclusion: Quantitative PREM's provide evidence of process quality and person-centred care within community rehabilitation and support services across large data sets of heterogeneous neurological conditions and geographical locations. Quality improvement initiatives for people with MS, PD and ABI should target processes relating to Picker Institute Principles 1,3,4,5,6, and 7. Purpose: To estimate the prevalence and severity of impairments in functional status, fatigue, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among critical COVID-19 survivors one-year after hospital discharge. Methods: A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA statement and registered in PROSPERO (CRD42021258356), with searches in eight databases. Observational studies were selected. The prevalence meta-analysis of abnormalities was performed using random-effects models. Risk of bias was evaluated using the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute tool. Results: Twenty studies were included, with data collected between 12 and 13.5 months after hospital discharge and a total of 1828 participants. Of these, 71% were men, and 77.7% were intubated in the intensive care unit (ICU). Impairments and sequelae were identified in varying prevalence and degrees, with greater impact on functional capacity and physical components of fatigue and HRQoL. The prevalence of abnormalities of 32.3% [95% CI 23.9; 41.9] found in the meta-analysis is substantially high. Most studies were classified as having fair and poor quality. Conclusion: Critical COVID-19 survivors experience impairments in functional status, fatigue, and HRQoL to varying degrees one-year after hospital discharge, particularly among patients who stayed in the ICU and on MV for a prolonged period. Observational studies comparing static postural outcomes (e.g. lumbar lordosis) between participants with and without LBP were included. Two independent reviewers conducted screening, data extraction and quality assessment. Methodological quality was assessed using Joanna Briggs Institute’s critical appraisal tools.Studies included in review = 46 (5,097 LBP; 6,974 controls); meta-analysis = 36 (3,617 LBP; 4,323 controls). Quality of included studies was mixed. Pelvic tilt was statistically significantly higher in participants with LBP compared to controls (n = 23; 2,540 LBP; 3,090 controls; SMD:0.23, 95%CI:0.10,0.35, p < 0.01, I2=72%). Lumbar lordosis and sacral slope may be lower in participants with LBP; pelvic incidence may be higher in this group; both were not statistically significant and the between study heterogeneity was high. Thoracic kyphosis and leg length discrepancy showed no difference between groups.Lumbopelvic mechanisms may be altered in people with LBP, but no firm conclusions could be made. Databases searched included Web of Science, Scopus, CINAHL, PubMed, Embase, and PsycINFO. The search was conducted in November 2022 with an update in October 2023. Two independent reviewers coded studies that met the inclusion criteria and assessed their methodological quality and risk of bias using the AXIS tool. Synthesis was performed by calculating frequencies and percentages.87 articles validating 24 ICF-CSs were analyzed. Most articles showed strengths in consistency between study objectives and the outcome variables measured. However, a large majority did not report sample size calculation (up to 94.2% in Delphi studies), and few validation studies were conducted in the WHO regions of Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean.The quality of cross-sectional studies validating ICF-CSs was satisfactory, although several articles did not describe aspects such as sample size calculation. Purpose: Lower limb osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent condition that has a profound impact on an individual's life in several domains, including occupational activities. The objective of this study was to systematically describe and compare work-related outcomes (e.g., employment status, absenteeism, and productivity loss) in individuals with and without lower limb OA. Materials and methods: Five databases were searched until 17 June 2023. Studies were eligible for inclusion if they compared work-related outcomes between individuals with lower limb OA and healthy controls (e.g., people without OA or the general population). Results: Seven studies met the inclusion criteria of which two were included in a meta-analysis. Meta-analysis revealed that individuals with OA were less frequently in paid employment than control individuals (odds ratio: 0.25; 95% confidence intervals: 0.12, 0.53). Evidence from single studies indicated greater absenteeism and presenteeism and poorer functional capacity in people with lower limb OA compared to controls. Conclusions: This systematic review suggests that individuals with lower limb OA have poorer work-related outcomes than those without OA. Low study numbers and lack of consistency in the way work outcomes are defined and measured make accurate quantification of the impact of OA on work challenging. Purpose: Over 240 million children worldwide experience inequities due to disablement/disability. Play is important for children's global development, to enable participation in life, and has been used in therapeutic settings. The purpose of this systematic review is to determine the effectiveness of play used in therapy for children with disabilities, to explore ways that play is used in therapy, and to classify and map outcome measures used in play-based interventions to the International Classification of Functioning. Methods: A systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Results: The search yielded 22 articles eligible for inclusion. A meta-analysis found significant heterogeneity for play-based intervention outcomes, precluding estimates of effectiveness. Body function and structure outcomes accounted for 61% of reported outcome measures. Conclusion: There is a trend towards a small positive effect of play used in therapy for children with disabilities, but certainty of the effect is poor, and replication difficult due to heterogeneous reports of how play is used. Research aims and outcome measures focusing on meaningful aspects of activity and participation in addition to body function and structure domains of the International Classification of Functioning should be considered for play-based interventions for children with disabilities. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Play-based interventions trend towards a positive effect on ICF outcomes, but the certainty of effect is limited. Play is used in diverse ways making it a versatile method to promote engagement or deliver therapy to a wide variety of children with disabilities. Purpose: Aphasia is an acquired language impairment that commonly results from stroke. Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) might accelerate aphasia recovery trajectories and has seen mounting popularity in recent aphasia rehabilitation research. The present review aimed to: (1) summarise all existing literature on NIBS as a post-stroke aphasia treatment; and (2) provide recommendations for future NIBS-aphasia research. Materials and methods: Databases for published and grey literature were searched using scoping review methodology. 278 journal articles, conference abstracts/posters, and books, and 38 items of grey literature, were included for analysis. Results: Quantitative analysis revealed that ipsilesional anodal transcranial direct current stimulation and contralesional 1-Hz repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation were the most widely used forms of NIBS, while qualitative analysis identified four key themes including: the roles of the hemispheres in aphasia recovery and their relationship with NIBS; heterogeneity of individuals but homogeneity of subpopulations; individualisation of stimulation parameters; and much remains under-explored in the NIBS-aphasia literature. Conclusions: Taken together, these results highlighted systemic challenges across the field such as small sample sizes, inter-individual variability, lack of protocol optimisation/standardisation, and inadequate focus on aphasiology. Four key recommendations are outlined herein to guide future research and refine NIBS methods for post-stroke aphasia treatment. Purpose: To explore the literature on carer-supported home-based exercise programs for people after stroke, as a form of physical activity. The review focus was to examine the training carers receive, the content of programs, and investigate the physical activity levels and functional mobility of people after stroke. Materials and Methods: A scoping review was undertaken, guided by Joanna Briggs Institute methodology. The concept of home-based carer-supported exercise, in people after stroke, was searched across five databases. Outcomes of interest were physical activity levels and functional mobility. Results: We screened 2285 references and included 10 studies: one systematic review, five randomised controlled trials, one trial with non-equivalent control, and four uncontrolled studies. Carer training ranged from one to twelve sessions. Exercise interventions commonly including walking, other whole body functional exercises and balance activities. In eight studies interventions were in addition to standard care. Five studies reported significant between-group differences for functional mobility, favouring the intervention. One study reported physical activity levels. Conclusion: There was large variation in the volume and content of training provided to carers. Physical activity levels were infrequently objectively reported. Future studies should include greater details on their protocols to allow for replication and implementation into clinical practice. The optimal length, content, and model of delivery of carer training, so carers can provide better targeted home-based exercise support to people after stroke, is not known. To inform appropriate treatment, reliable/valid assessments are critical. The aim of this scoping review was to collate assessment approaches used in studies where the primary outcome was HSP, and to identify how frequently each assessment approach was used.A systematic search, including studies from 2000-2023 was conducted of the MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, AMED, Biomed Central, and Cochrane Library databases, with four key terms used: “assess”, “stroke”, “pain” and “shoulder”. All primary studies published in English language fulfilling the reviews inclusion criteria were included. Six reviewers extracted the data.A total of 29 assessment methods for HSP were identified from 124 studies. The common assessments were: Visual Analogue Scale (n = 75, 60%), Passive Range of Movement (n = 65, 52%), Fugl-Meyer Assessment (n = 32, 26%), glenohumeral subluxation (n = 30, 24%) and Numerical Rating Scale (n = 27, 22%).A wide range of assessment approaches was identified for HSP, and some are used more than others. The aim of this review was to synthesise qualitative literature on physical activity experiences of community-dwelling older adults with physical disabilities. We conducted a scoping review of peer-reviewed, qualitative studies on physical activity with community-dwelling older adults with physical disabilities. We analysed eligible studies identified through electronic database searches (CINAHL Complete, MEDLINE, SPORTDiscus) and manual searches undertaken up to June 2023. Twenty-eight articles with 306 participants were included. As regard the experience of physical activity, although physical activity could elicit pleasure and enjoyment, many reported that physical activity sometimes produced pain. Various outcomes of physical activity were reported, with several physical, psychological, social, and lifestyle benefits prominent. Analyses of barriers and facilitators demonstrated how intrapersonal, interpersonal, environmental, and systems and programme factors influenced physical activity participation among older adults with physical disabilities. Our findings contribute to literature on physical activity in older adults with physical disabilities by synthesising qualitative research on physical activity experiences, outcomes, barriers, and facilitators in this population. Findings demonstrate the need for knowledgeable and supportive healthcare and exercise professionals, environments that support physical activity, and activities that promote pleasure and social connections. Physical activity is perceived to have wide-ranging benefits for community-dwelling older adults with physical disabilities. Various intrapersonal, interpersonal, environmental, and systems and programme barriers constrain physical activity in physically disabled people. To evaluate the current evidence regarding the use of ultrasound elastography for assessing non-invasive, non-pharmacological interventions for eliciting changes in musculoskeletal stiffness. A systematic search of MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases was performed in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. Information on measurement and intervention procedures was extracted. Bias was assessed using Cochrane Risk of Bias or Risk of Bias In Non-randomised Studies of Interventions (ROBINS-I) tools for studies with true or quasi-experimental designs, respectively. Analyses were conducted for adequately powered subgroups based on intervention type, measurement site, and population assessed. Twenty-one studies were included in the review. Overall risk of bias was low for true experimental studies and moderate for quasi-experimental studies. Subgroup analyses indicated a large overall effect for interventions involving manual physiotherapy and taping/splinting for reducing masseter muscle stiffness in patients with masticatory muscle disorders (g = 1.488, 95% CI = 0.320–2.655, p = 0.013). Analyses for other intervention types and patient groups were underpowered. Ultrasound elastography demonstrates clinical applicability for assessing non-invasive, non-pharmacological interventions for musculoskeletal stiffness. However, the comparative efficacy of these interventions for modulating tissue stiffness remains inconclusive. This review presents findings from studies that evaluated aggression interventions in both community and forensic populations of people with ABI.We searched PsycINFO, EMBASE, SocINDEX, CINAHL and Medline databases for studies published between 1st January 2000 and 15th October 2023.There were 15 studies (14 community-based, one forensic) that met inclusion criteria. Pharmacological management (6) was largely ineffective and anger management interventions (6) presented with inconsistent effectiveness. Emotion regulation (1) may be effective for externalised aggression. Both mindfulness and transcranial direct current stimulation (1) were effective, and the results of a forensic peer group approach (1) were not tested for statistical significance. There was variability in the measurement of aggression, injury severity, and cognitive impairment.Whilst community interventions for aggression in persons with ABI are prevalent, findings for effectiveness have been mixed and there is a paucity of evaluated interventions in forensic samples. To compare the effects of end-range manual therapy versus other conservative intervention on pain intensity, shoulder range of movement (ROM), and physical function in adhesive capsulitis (AC). Two reviewers conducted a comprehensive search from inception to December 2022. PUBMED, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, EMBASE, and PEDro databases were searched. Clinical trials investigating the effects of end-range mobilisation techniques on pain, ROM, and physical function in patients with AC were included. Methodological quality was evaluated using the PEDro scale, and bias risk was assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration tool. GRADE was used to assess the certainty of the evidence. Data were presented using forest plots, and the random effects models were applied according to the Cochrane handbook. Ten randomised controlled trials were reviewed, involving 424 AC patients aged 20–70 years. Methodological quality of studies ranged from high to low. The end-range mobilisation showed improvements in pain intensity, shoulder abduction, internal rotation, and external rotation, and physical function compared to other conservative interventions in the short-and medium-terms. Certainty of the evidence was downgraded to very low. Very low certainty evidence suggests that end-range mobilisation techniques improve pain intensity, shoulder ROM, and physical function in the short-and medium-term in AC. The Kaltenborn, Maitland, and Mulligan concepts are the most commonly used manual therapy approaches for adhesive capsulitis. The End-range mobilisation techniques seem to improve pain intensity, shoulder range of motion, and physical function at short- and medium-term of follow-up. The certainty of evidence was rated as very low for all the outcome measures. Despite the low certainty of evidence, it is recommended to continue using manual therapy for adhesive capsulitis due to the improvements demonstrated until further studies either confirm or refute its definitive efficacy. Social isolation and reduced social participation are common after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Developing interventions that aim to increase social participation through recreation or leisure activities continues to be challenging. This scoping review was conducted to provide an overview of interventions used to increase social participation through in-person recreation or leisure activity for adults with moderate to severe TBI living in the community. Using the Arksey and O'Malley framework, a scoping review of the literature published from 2005 to 2023 was conducted across four databases: Medline, CINAHL, PsycINFO and Scopus. Quality appraisals were conducted for included studies. Following the removal of duplicates, 10,056 studies were screened and 52 were retained for full-text screening. Seven papers were included in the final review. Studies varied with respect to the type of intervention and program outcomes. The interpretation was impeded by study quality, with only two studies providing higher levels of evidence. Barriers and facilitators to successful program outcomes were identified. Few studies with interventions focused on increasing social participation in leisure or recreation activity were identified. Further research incorporating mixed methods and longitudinal design to evaluate effectiveness over time is needed to build the evidence base for increasing social participation through leisure activity. There is evidence to support participating in recreation and leisure activities that involve interactions with others can increase social participation outcomes for adults with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury. Participating in leisure-based interventions not only provides opportunities for social connection but may also impact positively on personal wellbeing, enjoyment, and confidence. Understanding the range of personal, practical, support, and activity factors that can facilitate or obstruct participation in leisure or recreational activity programs at an individual level may improve social participation outcomes. The study approach sought to understand which vocational rehabilitation (VR) strategies are available for individuals seeking return to work (RTW) following traumatic brain injury (TBI). Secondly, the review aimed to identify how these RTW interventions and outcomes are evaluated. Using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) approach, the scoping review began by identifying relevant English language articles via PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Embase databases for peer-reviewed journal articles published from January 2013 to September 2021. The review focused on identifying studies with a sample population of people with moderate to severe TBI. A total of 23 studies met the search criteria. For each included study, the following data were extracted: (a) country of origin, (b) sample size, (c) civilian or military sample population, (d) age, (e) participant gender, (f) RTW definition, (g) intervention approach, and (h) RTW outcome. The results were synthesized by placement into one of four categories as a function of the study's underlying methodological approach The development of effective RTW approaches has largely been neglected in the rehabilitation literature for persons with TBI in civilian and military populations. Effective strategies do exist to help guide efforts to return this population to productive activity, including work. Lack of productive engagement in work and school among persons with traumatic brain injury (TBI) presents a chronic challenge in rehabilitation systems internationally. Rehabilitation professionals should utilize multidisciplinary and integrated return-to-work (RTW) interventions given the varied areas of function that can result from TBI. AbstractPurposeMethodsResultsConclusionsThis scoping review aims to describe how Bobath concept is conceptualized, operationalized, and studied in adult neurorehabilitation.The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) and the Preferred Reporting Items for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines were adopted. Non-scientific and research articles were searched in electronic databases PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), with the keywords “Bobath” or “Neurodevelopmental Treatment”, published in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, between 2013 and 2023.Of the 78 publications identified, 31 articles addressed the conceptual underpinnings of Bobath concept (seven theoretical papers, seven Delphi/surveys/mixed methods studies, four qualitative studies, one scoping review, 10 letters to the editor, and two editorials), comprising five themes: (a) theoretical principles; (b) clinical principles; (c) clinical reasoning; (d) conceptualizing movement; and, current (e) evidence debate. The revised definition and the Model of Bobath Clinical Practice provide a clarification of the unique aspects of Bobath concept. WHO recommends integrating rehabilitation into palliative care when providing services for people with life-threatening conditions. Recently, there has been increasing interest in exploring how rehabilitation and palliative care approaches could be combined. The aim of this study was to map and discuss the goals of intervention programmes that combine rehabilitation and palliative care. A scoping review was performed. The electronic databases MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CINAHL were searched for papers published between January 2014 and September 2022. Papers were considered eligible if the participants in question had a life-threatening disease and if interventions included both rehabilitation and palliative care. All study types were included. Ten papers describing five interventions were included. Qualitative goals were narratively described, and quantitative goals were analysed according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, and the Total Pain framework. Findings showed an overall focus on functioning and quality of life. Further analysis indicated an emphasis on physical and psychological dimensions. Social participation, and the social and spiritual dimensions were rarely evaluated. This review indicates that goals relative to social participation, the social and spiritual dimensions, and the patient's own goals may well be overlooked as points of orientation for interventions. There is an increasing interest in combining palliative care and rehabilitation approaches in clinical work. When rehabilitation and palliative care are combined, goals may be overlooked, and the patient's own goals can be used as a point of orientation for interventions. Future practice should pay special attention to subjective goals, social participation, and the social and spiritual dimensions when combining rehabilitation and palliative care. The effects of physical activity on health are well-established for chronic diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS), Alzheimer's disease (AD), and ischaemic heart disease (IHD). However, sustaining physical activity in everyday life is difficult. Lifeworld knowledge can help qualify interventions aimed at resolving this public health issue, but there is a gap in regard to synthesized research on peoples' experiences with integrating and sustaining physical activity. Hence, the purpose of this review is to explore and present the available evidence on experiences with integrating and sustaining physical activity in a lived life with MS, AD, and IHD. We conducted a scoping review with qualitative analysis and narrative syntheses in accordance with PRISMA-ScR. Based on SPIDER we ran a systematic search in Cinahl, Embase, Medline, and PsychInfo for primary qualitative research papers published until December 2022. 43 papers were included. A thematic content analysis found that individuals who have MS, AD or IHD find integrating and sustaining physical activity in everyday life meaningful on several levels: Physical activity can facilitate meaningful movement with outcomes of physical, psychosocial, and existential importance. The research literature presents a meaning to physical activity that extends the idea of physical fitness to one of existential movement and personal growth. In addition, our review finds that people are more likely to integrate and sustain physical activity if they feel acknowledged, supported and believe that physical activity has a meaningful purpose reflecting their sense of self. Taking a more person-centred approach in rehabilitative care might help qualify the content of physical activity in terms of integration into everyday life, but more research is needed on how to implement a person-centred approach in practice. The research literature presents an experiential meaning to physical activity that extends the idea of physical fitness to one of more existential movement and personal growth. To identify and synthesise the current evidence on social participation in adults with cerebral palsy (CP). Four databases (PubMed, CINAHL Plus, PsycINFO, Web of Science) were systematically searched between December 2021 and February 2022. Pre-specified eligibility criteria were applied to all identified studies resulting in the inclusion of 16 articles. Data extraction was performed using a standardised tool and quality appraisal was assessed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. A narrative synthesis approach was taken for data analysis. The 16 included studies were rated as high (n = 11) and medium quality (n = 5). Numbers of participants included in the studies ranged from 7 to 335. Definitions of social participation were discussed. Common themes were identified: the impact of home and work environments on social participation, the importance of age-appropriate support and interventions, and the impact of limited autonomy on social participation. Adults with CP experience limited social participation due to lack of appropriate support in childhood, issues across the lifespan including physical limitations when ageing, and factors such as societal expectations and inaccessible environments which limit opportunities for autonomy. Social participation may be improved by supporting families to provide opportunities in childhood, providing timely interventions, and by enhancing autonomy. Considering the support needs of the wider family, in order to build a supportive family environment in childhood, could improve social participation opportunities for individuals with cerebral palsy (CP) in adulthood. Social participation in adulthood may be improved by encouraging independence and autonomy in childhood and adolescence. To critically review the evidence for occupation-based interventions in improving occupational performance and participation outcomes in the hospital setting. Five databases were searched from 2000–2022. Peer-reviewed studies of any design investigating the impact of occupation-based interventions in the hospital setting were included. Methodological quality was assessed using the appropriate tool for each study design. Following data extraction, a narrative synthesis was conducted. Thirty-three studies comprising of 26 experimental, five non-experimental, and two mixed methods studies were included (n = 1646 participants). Results indicate good evidence to support occupation-based interventions to improve occupational performance and participation outcomes in inpatient rehabilitation; it is unclear whether they are more effective than any control/alternative intervention. Research in the acute and mental health hospital settings were scarcer. Understanding the benefits of occupation-based interventions was enhanced through qualitative results including improving independence and confidence to discharge home, increasing motivation for therapy, connecting with others, and peer-based learning. Heterogeneity and methodological weaknesses across existing studies limits the conclusions that can be drawn on the impact of occupation-based interventions in the hospital setting. More rigorous research should be conducted with better reporting of intervention design and the use of robust measures of occupational performance. The use of occupation-based interventions should be considered to improve occupational performance and participation outcomes in the hospital setting. There is good evidence to support the impact of occupation-based interventions on improving occupational performance and participation outcomes in the inpatient rehabilitation setting; evidence in the acute and mental health settings is scarcer. To provide an overview of the content and characteristics of face-to-face interventions to encourage enrollment in exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR). Following a published protocol describing the methods, six databases were searched. The search was limited to studies published from January 2000 to December 2021. Two reviewers independently performed study selection and data extraction. 5583 studies were identified and 20 studies with a variety of study designs met the inclusion criteria. Eight studies specified important content in face-to-face interventions to be: Education, problem-solving, support of autonomy, exploring reasons for change, emotional and cognitive support while showing understanding. Studies targeting patients' experiences used motivational interviewing and addressed worries and anticipated difficulties. Intention to attend, CR barriers, practical barriers, exercise self-efficacy, and patients asking questions supported enrollment. Reassurance could lead to nonattendance if patients had a high degree of worry and distress. Face-to-face interventions are important to support patients' enrollment in CR and should integrate a person-centered dialogue exploring reasons for change and providing support to overcome barriers. Focus on the patients' perspectives, the mechanisms of change, and the evaluation of the intervention to inform implementation should be further explored. In-hospital face-to-face interventions support enrollment in cardiac rehabilitation (CR) in patients with ischemic heart disease. This study suggests that individual worries and barriers toward CR should be jointly explored while considering patients' capacity for making choices as well as their vulnerability. To gather evidence on the effectiveness and safety of qigong, tai chi, and yoga to modulate symptoms associated with chronic respiratory diseases. A search of systematic reviews was conducted in CINHAL, Embase, PubMed, PsycINFO, SPORTDiscus, and the Cochrane Library from inception to November 2022. Systematic reviews with meta-analyses investigating physical and psychological measures were eligible. The methodological quality of systematic reviews (AMSTAR-2), the spin of information in abstracts, and the overlap of primary studies were explored. Twenty-seven systematic reviews involving 37 000 participants, 146 studies, and 150 meta-analyses were included. Reviews investigated asthma (n = 4) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (n = 23). Most reviews discussed their findings without considering the risk of bias of primary studies. The overlap ranged between slight (5%) and very high (35%). Yoga was better than control interventions to improve symptoms related with asthma. In adults with COPD, qigong improved dyspnoea, exercise endurance, lung function, and quality of life, while tai chi and yoga increased exercise endurance. The impact of yoga on symptoms associated with asthma varied depending on the lung function parameter and the control group. Qigong, tai chi, and yoga could be effective to improve COPD-related symptoms, especially exercise endurance. Qigong, tai chi, and yoga could be effective to improve symptoms associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Mind–body exercises promote self-care management and can be individually tailored. Qualitative meta-ethnography. Pre-registered with OSF:10.17605/OSF.IO/UTZE6. To understand the patient experience pre- and/or post-lumbar spine surgery. Literature search: A literature search was conducted in MEDLINE, EMBASE, EmCare and CINAHL from inception to October 17, 2022. Study selection criteria: Peer-reviewed qualitative or mixed-method studies of English text investigating the beliefs, perceptions, or experiences of adults (≥18 years old) pre- and/or post-lumbar spine surgery for degenerative, non-traumatic or non-infectious concerns. Data synthesis: The eMERGE meta-ethnography reporting guidelines were followed to create themes and subthemes from the original themes of the included studies. A quality appraisal was performed using the McMaster Quality Appraisal tool. We included 18 studies and identified five themes that were separated into pre- and post-operative categories. The two pre-operative themes included [1]: the influence of physiotherapy interventions on patients' experiences, and [2] the importance of education/the power of communication, and the three post-operative themes included [1]: psychosocial coping [2], redefining oneself post-operatively, and [3] experience with the healthcare system. These findings emphasize the complexity of the peri-operative experience for individuals undergoing lumbar spine surgery. Future research should focus on addressing psychosocial factors that may optimize patient experiences and recovery following LSS. The results of this study identified potential pre-operative and post-operative factors that may influence whether patients' have positive or negative perioperative experiences with lumbar spine surgery. Health care providers should be encouraged to focus on psychosocial factors that can be implemented in the health care system to improve the perioperative experience of patients undergoing lumbar spine surgery. Tracheostomy and dysphagia are independently associated with increased complications and poorer functional outcome after acquired brain injury (ABI). The aim of this study was to identify and evaluate rehabilitation to restore functional swallowing ability and respiratory capacity during tracheal tube weaning. The review was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. Any study design with adult patients with ABI and tracheostomy was eligible. The primary outcome was decannulation. A total of 2647 records were identified and eight papers included. Four studies investigated pharyngeal electrical stimulation (PES), two explored Facial Oral Tract Therapy (F.O.T.T.), one respiratory physiotherapy (RPT), and one study investigated external subglottic air flow (ESAF). Two RCTs found a significant difference between intervention and control on successful decannulation and readiness for decannulation in favour of PES. Time from rehabilitation admission and tracheostomy to decannulation was significantly reduced after implementing an F.O.T.T.-based protocol. Four interventions were identified, PES, F.O.T.T., RPT, and ESAF, all aimed at increasing oropharyngeal sensory input through stimulation. Due to heterogeneity of interventions, designs and outcome measures, effect could not be estimated. This review highlights the limited research on rehabilitative interventions and thus the limited evidence to guide clinical rehabilitation. Rehabilitation for early decannulation after brain injury Dysphagia and tracheostomy often coexist in neurocritical care and early rehabilitation. Four rehabilitative interventions were identified—pharyngeal electrical stimulation, external subglottic airflow, respiratory physiotherapy and facial-oral tract therapy. Interventions points to a consensus that sensory stimulation of the oropharynx can increase excitability of the swallowing network and support pharyngeal sensorimotor cortex reorganisation. Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is unrelenting. As neither rest nor sleep ameliorates cognitive, emotional, and physical symptoms, quality of life is diminished. This study examines resistance training (RT) effectiveness on CRF in cancer survivors. The secondary aims were to identify the dose-response relationship of RT frequency, intensity, and volume on CRF in different cancer survivor populations. Systematic searches via numerous databases for RCTs were performed in June 2022. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROM), were analysed, pre-to-post intervention, using a random-effects model. The Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale informed methodological quality assessment. Eight studies were included (cancer survivors: breast (BCS) = 5; endometrial (ECS) = 1; prostate (PCS) = 2). Overall, RT interventions ≥ 6 weeks elicited large significant reductions in CRF for FACIT-F (SMD = 0.932, p = <0.001) and moderate significant reductions in CRF for PFS-R (SMD = −0.622, p = 0.004). Main findings indicate that RT ameliorates CRF, especially in BCS; however, individualised approaches should be advocated. Supervised training elicited the greatest positive outcomes, thus should be a pivotal part of the cancer rehabilitation pathway. Future studies should be adequately powered, undertake discrete analyses of different cancer types, and investigate chronic RT effects. The aim of this review is to assess the efficacy and safety of using heat and cold therapy for adults with lymphoedema. A multi-database search was undertaken. Only studies which included adults with lymphoedema who were treated with heat or cold therapy reporting any outcome were included. Screening, data extraction, and assessment of bias were undertaken by a single reviewer and verified by a second. Due to the substantial heterogeneity, a descriptive synthesis was undertaken. Eighteen studies were included. All nine studies which assessed the effects of heat-therapy on changes in limb circumference reported a point estimate indicating some reduction from baseline to end of study. Similarly, the five studies evaluating the use of heat-therapy on limb volume demonstrated a reduction in limb volume from baseline to end-of-study. Only four studies reported adverse events of which all were deemed to be minor. Only two studies explored the effects of cold therapy on lymphoedema. Tentative evidence suggests heat-therapy may have some benefit in treating lymphoedema with minimal side effects. However, further high-quality randomised controlled trials are required, with a particular focus on moderating factors and assessment of adverse events. This review highlights the potential benefit that heat therapy may have on reducing limb circumference and volume for adults with lymphoedema. There was no evidence that controlled localised heat therapy was unsafe. The current evidence-base is at a point where no specific clinical recommendations can be made. Critical Appraisal Skills Programme checklists were used to assess study quality. Perceptions of patients' and clinicians' influencing uptake of ODEPs were extracted. Quantitative and qualitative data were synthesised and integrated. Twenty-one studies were included (twelve quantitative, seven qualitative, and two mixed-methods) investigating the perceptions of 1275 patients and 534 clinicians on ODEP mode A (n = 7), mode B (n = 8), and mode C (n = 6). Sixteen of the 23 identified perceptions related to satisfaction, acceptability, usability, and effectiveness were common, with 70% of perceptions facilitating uptake and 30% hindering uptake. Findings highlight the need to promote targeted education for patients and clinicians addressing interconnected perceptions, and to develop evidence-based perception-centred strategies encouraging integrated care and guideline-based management of chronic MSK conditions. Almost 70% of perceptions related to satisfaction, acceptability, usability, and effectiveness that influence the uptake of online-delivered exercise programmes for chronic musculoskeletal conditions are shared by patients and clinicians. Patient perceptions that differ from clinicians and that hinder uptake include the risk of misdiagnosis, lack of social support, and advice from their clinic and/or clinician. Clinician perceptions that differ from patients and that hinder uptake include risk of last-minute appointment cancellations, the cost to set-up, and limitations of camera angles. We established the most commonly used clinician and patient-reported hip fracture outcome measures as of 2022, assessed their content validity using an International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework, and operationalized these results to contribute to an updated hip fracture core set. A literature search was conducted to identify articles utilizing outcome measures related to hip fracture. A total of five outcome measures were identified, linked to the ICF, and assessed for content validity via bandwidth percent, content density, and content diversity. Outcome measures were linked to 191 ICF codes, most of which were associated with Activities and Participation. Notably, no outcome measure contained concepts linked to Personal Factors and Environmental Factors were underrepresented across all outcome measures. The modified Harris Hip Score had the highest content diversity (0.67), the Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score had the highest bandwidth of ICF content coverage (2.48), and the Oxford Hip Score had the highest content density (2.92). These results clarify the clinical applicability of outcome measures and guide development of hip fracture outcomes that allow providers to assess the complex role of social, environmental, and personal factors in patient rehabilitation. Hip fracture is a complex and disabling pathology predominantly affecting older adults and represents a public health problem. There are a variety of outcome measures used to assess a patient's recovery following a hip fracture, each with distinctive objectives and modes of administration. Content validity metrics associated with the Harris Hip Score suggest it would be a suitable outcome measure during early-stage recovery, whereas the modified Harris Hip Score may be more suitable for tracking long-term recovery tracking. Choosing an outcome measure most appropriate for a hip fracture patient is an individualized decision that must consider aspects such as age, activity level, needs, and environmental factors. We performed a systematic review to assess the psychometric properties of extended Activities of Daily Living (eADL) scales. Articles assessing eADL scales' properties were retrieved by searching multidisciplinary databases, and reference screening. Data on the following properties were extracted: validity, reliability, responsiveness, and internal consistency. The COSMIN (Consensus-based Standards for the selection of health status Measurement Instruments) risk of bias checklists are used to assess the quality of included articles. All aspects were performed by two independent researchers. Of 245 titles, 26 articles were eligible, comprising 15 different eADL scales. The Lawton scale had the most papers describing properties, while the Performance-based Instrumental Activities of Daily Living received the highest COSMIN rating. Properties most often assessed were convergent validity and reliability, no articles assessed all COSMIN properties. The COSMIN assessment rated 43% of the properties as 'positive', 31% 'doubtful' and 26% 'inadequate'. Only Lawton was assessed in more than one paper, available data suggest that this scale has excellent reliability, construct validity, internal consistency, and medium criterion validity. Despite their common use, there are limited data on the properties of eADL scales. Where data are available there are potential methodological issues in the studies. The functional abilities of older adults are most commonly measured using extended activities of daily living scales (eADL). There are many eADL scales available to clinicians and no guidance on a preferred tool. Despite the frequent use of eADL scales in research and practice, there is limited published literature on their psychometric properties (for example validity, reliability and responsiveness). We aimed to identify Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) that assess disability in children and adolescents with low back pain (LBP), analyzing their adherence to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) biopsychosocial model; and to describe the measurement properties of these PROMs. We searched Pubmed, Embase and CINAHL databases. The review included searches up to March 2022. Meaningful concepts of the PROMs were linked to ICF domains, and we manually searched for the measurement properties of each included PROM. We included 23 studies, of which eight PROMs were analyzed. We retrieved 182 concepts in total. Activities was the domain with the highest number of linked concepts, whereas personal factors had no linked concepts. The modified Hannover Functional Ability Questionnaire (mHFAQ) and the Micheli Functional Scale (MFS) had measurement properties tested in children and adolescents, but had no information about construct validity. Although most of the identified PROMs had broad coverage of their concepts in the ICF, only two PROMs had measurement properties tested in the population of interest in this review, in which the mHFAQ presented wide coverage in relation to the ICF. Further studies are needed to investigate content validity of these PROMs. This review adds evidence to the area of musculoskeletal disorders in children and adolescents, which is still underexplored. Valid adult Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) have been used to assess disability in children and adolescents with low back pain. Experiencing spinal cord injury (SCI) can be life-changing for individuals and their families. Previous reviews have focused on coping and psychological adjustment, sexual function and sexuality, or factors facilitating or impeding interpersonal relationships after SCI. However, there is a very little synthesis of research focusing on changes to adult attachment and emotional intimacy post-SCI. This review aims to examine the mechanisms of change in adult attachment and intimacy in romantic relationships following SCI. Four online databases (Psycinfo, Medline, CINAHL, and Scopus) were searched for qualitative papers concerning romantic relationships, attachments, and intimacy post-SCI. Sixteen of the 692 papers met the inclusion criteria. These were quality assessed and analysed using meta-ethnography. Three main themes emerged from the analysis: (a) strengthening and maintaining adult attachment; (b) changes in roles; and (c) changing views of intimacy. Many couples face significant changes to adult attachment and intimacy following SCI. Systematic ethnographic analysis of their negotiations enabled the identification of underlying relational processes and adaptation strategies associated with changes to inter-dependence, communication, role revision, and re-definition of intimacy. The findings indicate that healthcare providers should assess and respond to challenges faced by couples post-SCI using evidence consistent with adult attachment theory. Professionals should support both partners to develop strategies to try to cope with spinal cord injury (SCI) and its associated stressors following injury. Information and support regarding both the physical and emotional impact of the injury on coupledom and romantic relationships should be provided after SCI. Physical therapy (PT) plays a central role in treating individuals with Generalized Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (G-HSD) and Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS). However, there is limited research describing these individuals' PT management. This review aims to systematically map the evidence on PT interventions to treat this patient population. A systematic literature search of PubMed, CINAHL, and Embase from January 2000 to April 2023 was performed. After the screening process, studies were appraised and classified based on the type of PT interventions used. Five reviewers independently assessed the articles. The search produced 757 articles. Twenty-eight met the inclusion criteria. The studies included 630 participants, mostly female, with a mean age of 26.2 (ranging from 2 to 69). The PT interventions used were therapeutic exercise, patient instruction, motor function training, adaptive equipment, manual therapy, and functional training. The evidence indicates that therapeutic exercise and motor function training are efficacious methods to treat individuals with G-HSD and hEDS. There is also weak evidence for using adaptive equipment, patient instruction, manual therapy, and functional training. Recent studies emphasize multidisciplinary care and understanding of the psychological impact of G-HSD/hEDS. Additional research is needed to determine the effectiveness and dosage of PT interventions. The lack of guidelines and consensus on physical therapy (PT) interventions to treat and restore function in people with Generalized Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (G-HSD) and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) challenges clinicians. Psychosocial well-being is key to living well after stroke, but often significantly affected by stroke. Existing understandings consider well-being comes from positive mood, social relationships, self-identity and engagement in meaningful activities. However, these understandings are socioculturally located and not necessarily universally applicable. This qualitative metasynthesis examined how people experience well-being after a stroke in Aotearoa New Zealand. This metasynthesis was underpinned by He Awa Whiria (Braided Rivers), a model which prompts researchers to uniquely engage with Māori and non-Māori knowledges. A systematic search identified 18 articles exploring experiences of people with stroke in Aotearoa. Articles were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. We constructed three themes which reflect experiences of well-being: connection within a constellation of relationships, being grounded in one's enduring and evolving identities, and being at-home in the present whilst (re)visioning the future. Well-being is multi-faceted. In Aotearoa, it is inherently collective while also deeply personal. Well-being is collectively achieved through connections with self, others, community and culture, and embedded within personal and collective temporal worlds. These rich understandings of well-being can open up different considerations of how well-being is supported by and within stroke services. Psychosocial well-being is critical for people living with stroke. Well-being should be a priority in rehabilitation, however people with stroke indicate they do no consistently receive psychosocial support. It is clear that well-being has strong cultural elements, and understanding what supports well-being in individuals, whānau (those within wider networks who the person with stroke considers important), and wider cultural groups is important. To describe allied health and educational interventions and their effectiveness for children and adolescents with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). To appraise the quality and strength of studies. Electronic databases were searched between 2005 and March 2022, identifying non-pharmacological studies supporting function, activity, or participation for FASD participants aged 5–18 years using any quantitative research design. Outcomes were coded using International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, family of Participation Related Constructs and behaviour categories. Multi-level random-effects meta-analysis examined intervention effects. Study methodological quality was evaluated using Cochrane risk of bias tools, RoBiNT, AMSTAR 2 and NHMRC Hierarchy levels of evidence. Certainty of findings were synthesised using GRADE approach. The systematic review included 25 studies with 735 participants, 10 of which were analysed by meta-analysis. Body function and structure, activity, behaviour, and sense of self outcomes were pooled. A small, positive effect favouring interventions was found (g = 0.29, 95% CI = 0.15–0.43), however the GRADE certainty was rated as low. No participation outcomes were identified. Some interventions targeting body function and structure, activity and behaviour outcomes were effective. Evidence of interventions that support children's and adolescent's participation as an outcome is lacking. To address participation outcomes for children and adolescents with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), it is important to understand their participation needs and directly measure these. Interventions identified targeted body function and structure, activity, and behaviour outcomes. Participation outcomes of children's/adolescent's attendance, involvement and preferences were not identified. To systematically characterize and assess the effectiveness of multidisciplinary care for patients with persistent post-concussion symptoms (PPCS). Only studies describing multidisciplinary treatment, defined as intervention provided by no less than 2 healthcare disciplines, each with independent scopes of practice, for patients with PPCS were considered. A total of 8 of the 1357 studies identified were included. The studies were comprised of heterogenous patient populations, care delivery systems, healthcare providers, treatment approaches, and outcomes. Findings suggest multidisciplinary care, using a needs-based approach with individual- or group-based interventions, may be more beneficial than usual care to; 1) immediately reduce concussion-related symptom complaints and improve mood and quality of life in adolescents following sports-related concussion (SRC) and, 2) may produce immediate and lasting improvements in symptom complaints of young, primarily female, adults following a non-SRC. Future studies should clearly describe the decision-making processes used to deliver care through a needs-based approach and prioritize the inclusion of objective, performance-based measures to assess outcomes. Multidisciplinary care using a needs-based approach with the individual- and group-based interventions, may be more beneficial than usual care. Younger populations, particularly females, seem to benefit most from multidisciplinary care to decrease the burden of post-concussion symptoms. Multidisciplinary care teams should consider providing psychological support and education combined with cognitive retraining and pharmacologic intervention to address persistent post-concussion symptoms. To identify participation-focused measures used for young people with cerebral palsy (CP), evaluate their psychometric evidence, and map item content to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF), and family of Participation-Related Constructs (fPRC) frameworks. Four databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL) were searched for papers that involved young people with CP aged 15 to 25 years and reported original data from a participation measure. Each measure was examined for validity, reliability, responsiveness (using the COSMIN checklist), clinical utility, the inclusion of accessible design features, self- and/or proxy-report from people with communication support needs, and item content according to ICF and fPRC. Of 895 papers, 80 were included for review. From these, 26 measures were identified. Seven measures (27 papers/resources) were participation-focused, capable of producing a score for participation Attendance and/or Involvement. Of these, all measured Attendance (n = 7) but fewer than half measured Involvement (n = 3). Few included studies (37%) reported including some self-report of people with communication support needs. Participation measures for young people with CP are evolving but require more: (i) emphasis on measurement of involvement; (ii) investigation of psychometric properties; and (iii) adaptation to enable self-report by young people with communication support needs. Identifies seven participation-focused measures which are available for young people with cerebral palsy, all seven measure Attendance and three measure Involvement. Provides a decision-making tool to assist clinicians and researchers with the selection of participation-focused measures for young people with cerebral palsy. To conduct a systematic review of self- and proxy-report fatigue assessment tools used in studies of people with cerebral palsy (CP) of all ages, and to develop a fatigue assessment tool decision tree for clinicians and researchers. Five electronic databases (MEDLINE, PsycInfo, CINAHL, Web of Science and Cochrane) were searched to September 2021 to identify studies assessing self-reported fatigue in people with CP of any age. The assessment tools utilised were extracted and two reviewers appraised the tool characteristics, clinical utility and psychometric properties. A decision tree for selecting fatigue assessment tools was constructed. Ten assessment tools were identified across thirty-nine studies, three of which are valid and reliable for assessing fatigue severity and impact in people with CP. A four-level fatigue assessment tool decision tree was constructed. No valid and reliable tool for assessing cognitive fatigue was identified; responsiveness has not been evaluated in any tool for people with CP. Physical fatigue screening and assessment tools for people with CP are available and are presented in our decision tree, however their utility as outcome measures remains unclear. Cognitive fatigue is understudied and poorly understood, further work is required in this area. Current measurement tools to screen and assess physical fatigue in people with cerebral palsy (CP) are valid and reliable and are presented in our 4-level decision tree to guide assessment tool selection. The responsiveness of these measurement tools to screen and assess physical fatigue has not been evaluated, therefore their utility as outcome measures in people with CP is unclear. To develop an overview of systematic reviews (SRs) to summarize the current evidence on the effectiveness of mind-body exercises, specifically qigong, tai chi, and yoga, on osteoarthritis-related symptoms. CINAHL, Embase, PsycINFO, PubMed, SPORTDiscus, and the Cochrane Library were searched from inception up to 20 June 2022. Pain, physical function, psychological symptoms, and quality of life were analyzed. AMSTAR 2 was used to assess the methodological quality of SRs. The primary study overlap among SRs was calculated. A total of 13 SRs were selected, including 32 meta-analyses of interest that comprised 33 distinct primary studies. Overall, qigong, tai chi, and yoga-based interventions may improve osteoarthritis-related symptoms, mainly physical function. However, no SRs were judged to have high methodological quality. Only three SRs judged certainty of evidence using a gold standard for it. The primary study overlap was very high for SRs covering tai chi or yoga trials. There was a positive tendency in favor of these mind-body exercises for improving pain, arthritis self-efficacy, and mainly, physical function. Unfortunately, no clinical recommendations can be made due to the high number of methodological concerns that were described above. New high-quality SRs covering this topic are needed. It appears that qigong, tai chi, and yoga may improve physical function in osteoarthritis. In addition, tai chi may improve arthritis self-efficacy in knee osteoarthritis. To understand how individuals experience and adjust to changes in body image after spinal cord injury (SCI). A systematic search using four databases identified eleven articles that met the inclusion criteria. The studies were critically appraised to determine quality. Interpretative thematic synthesis was used to explore adults' experiences of adjusting to changes in body image after SCI. Three themes described the influence of sociocultural factors on body image: 'Sociocultural influences', 'Responses of others' and 'Experience of rehabilitation'. Six themes described individuals' experiences of body image. 'Loss and threat of difference', 'Discomfort and disconnection' and 'Resistance' negatively influenced body image. 'Reconnecting with the body and re-negotiating identity', 'Support network' and 'Challenging beliefs about disability' promoted positive body image. Adjustment was a dynamic process, influenced by interactions between individual, relational and sociocultural factors. The physical impacts of SCI, individual's perceptions, relationships and sociocultural discourses influenced body image. Rehabilitation professionals could support adjustment to changes in body image by considering individual, relational and systemic influences. Furthermore, it is important to include an individual's support network within their care as social factors influenced body image experiences. Peer support could promote hope and challenge negative sociocultural beliefs about disability. Following spinal cord injury (SCI) individuals described a dynamic process of adjustment to changes in their body image, which can include positive and negative body image experiences. Rehabilitation environments and interactions with clinicians can influence individuals' body image experiences. Multidisciplinary interventions which consider sociocultural, relational and individual influences on body image may promote positive body image experiences and the renegotiation of identity after SCI. To map evidence regarding physiotherapy assessment and treatment of patients with tibial external fixator (EF), and to point out literature gaps for further research. Systematic scoping review conducted in four databases. We included both experimental and non-experimental studies involving patients with tibial EF and outcomes of interest. We recorded study design, population, sample size, sample age, reason for EF use, type of surgery, type of EF used, instruments used for assessing function, pain, quality of life, satisfaction, psychosocial aspects, and physiotherapy treatment descriptions from included studies. We categorised data accordingly to outcomes assessed and physiotherapy treatments description. Eighty-six studies were included involving 3070 patients. Causes of fixator use were traumatic conditions, acquired and congenital deformities, and non-traumatic conditions, like compartmental osteoarthritis. Function was assessed in about three-quarters of included studies, though other outcomes were not presented in most studies. Only one study described satisfactorily the physiotherapy treatment. Almost half of the studies did not provide any description of the rehabilitation process. There is little evidence about the assessment of function, pain, quality of life, satisfaction, psychosocial aspects, and other outcomes in tibial EF patients. To identify parameters and measurement methods of exercise therapy adherence, as well as barriers and facilitators affecting adherence among children and adolescents with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Studies were eligible for inclusion if patients were 0–18 years of age, had JIA, and the focus of the research was on exercise therapy patterns, measurement/parameters of exercise adherence, and barriers/facilitators for exercise adherence. Two reviewers independently identified and categorized the barriers and facilitators to exercise therapy adherence using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF). Twenty articles were included in this review. Among patients with JIA, 29%–99% adhered to exercise therapy. The most commonly measured parameters of adherence were session completion and behavior component, with a self-report log serving as the most common means of assessment. Time pressure, symptoms related to JIA, lack of enjoyment, and insufficient motivation were the main barriers. Facilitators were commonly identified as adequate motivation, effective symptoms management, and social support. Future interventions should consider the identified factors to promote exercise engagement in children and adolescents with JIA. Strategies for promoting exercise adherence in children and adolescents with JIA is needed. Despite its potential as an effective means of improving health and function in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), the level of exercise participation in this population is not ideal. Future interventions should focus on improving personal factors associated with exercise therapy adherence, such as motivation. The aim of this review was to examine the efficacy of dance interventions for individuals with cerebral palsy (CP), measured at any level of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). A comprehensive search of peer-reviewed articles was performed using six electronic databases. Fourteen studies were included in this review, nine of which were also included in the meta-analysis. The meta-analyses yielded a large overall effect for cognitive, motor, and social-emotional function outcomes, with a high degree of heterogeneity between outcome effects, attributable to differences in study design. Although recent studies provide support for the acceptance and efficacy of dance interventions for people with CP, the systematic review revealed significant limitations in study design (only 2 randomised control trials). High-quality research that measures outcomes across all dimensions of the ICF, and particularly at the level of participation, are needed to improve the level of empirical support for dance-based interventions. Movement- and step-based dance practice for cerebral palsy have a positive impact on walking/gait, balance/postural control, and range of motion. Dance programs should move beyond a traditional focus on body structure and function, placing participation at the forefront of the program. Rehabilitation professionals should consider forming partnerships with stakeholders, addressing their goals, experiences, and challenges, with dance as a feasible and important option for participation-based practice. To provide a critical assessment, summarize, and synthesize the evidence from studies using psychometrically validated questionnaires to assess the effects and benefits/barriers of physical exercise in hemodialysis patients. The search was performed on six electronic databases. It was conducted following the PRISMA statement and the PICO framework. The methodological quality was assessed using the MMAT. Were used the quality criteria for psychometric properties developed by Terwee et al. Overall, 70 studies were included, and 39 questionnaires identified, evaluating 13 outcomes. The quality of the psychometric properties of the questionnaires was not always described; only 13 presented positive ratings on > =6/9 properties. The most assessed measure was criterion validity, and the least assessed criteria was responsiveness. The most outcome measured by these questionnaires was quality of life using SF-36, followed by psychological health using the BDI. The DPEBBS was the only instrument identified that assessed the benefits and barriers of exercise. Quality of life and depression were the most frequent outcomes. Other measures contemplating physical, mental, cognitive performance, and especially of the perceptions benefits and barriers to exercise should be further investigated. We have clearly identified the need for more studies evaluating psychometric measures that have not been tested satisfactorily or hardly been tested at all. Reliable instruments, valid and structurally adequate were identified to support clinicians and researchers in measuring important outcomes in hemodialysis patients. Quality of life and depression were the most frequent outcomes with good research instruments. Action observation training (AOT) is a therapeutic approach used in stroke rehabilitation. Videos form the core of AOT, and knowledge of constituent parameters is essential to make the intervention robust and generalizable. Currently, there is a dearth of available information on video parameters to be used for AOT. Our purpose was to identify and describe the parameters that constitute AOT videos for stroke rehabilitation. Electronic databases like PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science, ProQuest, and Ovid SP from inception to date according to PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Title, abstract, and full-text screening were done independently by two authors, with a third author for conflict resolution. Data on video parameters like length, quality, perspective, speed, screen size and distance, sound, and control videos were extracted. Seventy studies were included in this review. The most-reported parameters were video length (85.71%) and perspective of view (62.85%). Movement speed (7.14%) and sound (8.57%) were the least reported. Static landscapes or geometrical patterns were found suitable as control videos. Most video parameters except for length and perspective of view remain underreported in AOT protocols. Future studies with better descriptions of video parameters are required for comprehensive AOT interventions and result generalisation. Videos shorter than 5 min may be preferred during action observation training (AOT) intervention in post-stroke. Egocentric view may be better for upper limb dexterity function and allocentric view for gross actions like walking. Choice of video disseminating device depends on its dimension as well as observer distance. Movement speed, video sound, and quality must be considered to obtain more comprehensive AOT videos. To conduct a scoping review on five individual social determinants of health (SDOHs): gender, education, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and social support, in relation to post-stroke aphasia outcomes. A comprehensive search across five databases was conducted in 2020 and updated in 2022. Twenty-five studies (3363 participants) met the inclusion criteria. Data on SDOHs and aphasia outcomes were extracted and analysed descriptively. Twenty studies provide information on SDOH and aphasia recovery outcomes. Five studies provide insights on SDOH and response to aphasia intervention. Research on SDOH and aphasia recovery has predominantly focussed solely on language outcomes (14 studies), with less research on the role of SDOH on activity, participation, and quality of life outcomes (6 studies). There is no evidence to support a role for gender or education on language outcomes in the first 3 months post stroke. SDOHs may influence aphasia outcomes at or beyond 12 months post onset. Research on SDOHs and aphasia outcomes is in its infancy. Given SDOHs are modifiable and operate over a lifetime, and aphasia is a chronic condition, there is a pressing need to understand the role of SDOHs on aphasia outcomes in the long term. Research on the role of Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) and aphasia outcomes is in its infancy. The role of SDoHs has been mainly investigated in relation to language outcomes. Little is known about the SDoHs on activity, participation, and quality of life outcomes. Rehabilitation professionals should consider the potential influence of individual SDoHs such as gender, education, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and social support on a person's access to aphasia services and aphasia outcomes long term. This scoping review examined the methodologies used to measure access to care in serious injury-related disability populations, for whom access to care post-discharge has significant implications for patient outcomes and rehabilitation trajectories. Four electronic databases were searched for literature published between 1 January 2000 and 15 February 2022. Relevant articles needed to relate to access to care in adult community-dwelling trauma and rehabilitation populations. The initial search identified 679 articles. Following de-duplication, the title/abstract screening was completed on 533 articles, and 56 full-text articles were reviewed. Thirty-eight articles met the eligibility criteria and were included in this review. Of the 38 studies included, there was large heterogeneity in the methodologies used to measure access to care. Two articles used multidimensional measures of access to care. There is an urgent need to establish the use of multidimensional measures as standard practice in access-to-care research. Failure to account for the multidimensional nature of access to care limits the full realisation of access for people with serious injury-related disability and prevents the implementation of processes that could improve access to health, rehabilitation, and support services and enhance the quality of care for individuals with a serious injury-related disability. A consistently comprehensive approach to rehabilitation research will provide clearer insight into users' experiences and how to optimise their engagement with services. Multidimensional measures of access to care need to be developed, validated, and used to capture the complexity of access to rehabilitation care and what is important to users. More comprehensive evidence can strengthen consensus on the gold standard of what must be included in the measurement of access to rehabilitation care, to improve service reach and relevance.
