It can be defined as a decrease or subsidence in the violence of a disease. Remission is, therefore, not a cure. Many definitions and remission rates are quoted in the literature since scholar William Gowers stated in 1881 that the spontaneous cessation of seizures is an event too rare to be anticipated in any given case.
