The European Union stands for a well-structured and successful institution that is bound by the Euro-pean identity. The core of the European identity is built from Christianity; a secular state with highly developed democracy, rule of law and market economy; and ancient culture. Although the institution of the European Union is well-organized, it has not remained untouched by the global economic crisis of the 21
st century. The aim of this paper is to try to address current questions that the institution of the European Union is faced with. It also focuses on the emerging issues and problems regarding the future of this organization by looking into its past and present. Furthermore, it aims to provide some possible solutions and suggestions to the problems concerning the improvement and development of the European Union. Despite the phenomenon of euroscepticism that is highly present in the society, one of the crucial issues that today's Europe is face with is the aging of its population. The focal point of this paper is put on this very problem, since it can lead to other problems, such as, decline in the labour force and even to the decline in the population of the European Union. By giving detailed descriptions of the potential issues the European Union may be face with in the future, this paper aims to come up with possible suggestions for overcoming these emerging problems in order to indicate that the European Union has the abili-ty for improvement and development.
