The article describes observations of the feeding behavior and lingual luring of a juvenile Nerodia sipedon or Sommon Watersnake that was encountered in an artificial pond near the French Broad River in Knox County, Tennessee on August 10, 2021. The researchers documents the movements of the snake and its periscope posture while trying to attract and catch a Gambusia affinis or Western Mosqutofish to prey on. Other cases of lingual luring of piscine prey in five snake species are cited.
