In this paper, a new class of bidirectional partial-resonance power converters is presented. The proposed family can be configured to interface single- or multi-port dc, single- or multi-phase ac systems at input-side and/or output-side. The proposed family offers a very modular structure, which can lead to cost reduction from a common designed module. In this converter, which accomplishes power conversion in a single stage, a small inductor placed in series with the input and output switch-bridges forms the link. This small link inductor is responsible for transferring power between different ports of the system. The proposed topologies can operate in buck, boost, and buck–boost modes of operation to step up and/or step down the voltage. In buck–boost mode of operation, the converter is controlled such that the power is entirely transferred through the link inductor; whereas, in buck or boost modes of operation only a fraction of the power is transferred through the link inductor, and the remaining power is directly transferred from input phases to the output phases. Galvanic isolation, which is typically a prominent factor contributing to power density of a converter, can be provided by means of a compact and lightweight single-phase high-frequency transformer added to the link. In comparison with earlier generations of partial-resonance inductive-link power converters, in the proposed converter, the level of link peak current and consequently power-loss, as well as voltage and current stress of switches are dramatically decreased. A very small film capacitor can be placed in parallel with the link inductor to facilitate zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) operation for all the switches/diodes. Apart from increasing the overall efficiency, minimized dv/dt stress and improvement in power density are achieved by adding the link capacitor. The proposed converter employs four-quadrant switches, i.e., bidirectional-conducting bidirectional-blocking switches, and charges the link inductor in both positive and negative directions in each cycle. In view of this, better utilization of the link inductor and lower total harmonic distortion (THD) are offered. Furthermore, two distinct switching algorithms are developed for the proposed family of converters. In this paper, the detailed behavior of the proposed family is investigated analytically, and simulation and experimental results are presented to evaluate the performance and effectiveness of the proposed converter. A low-power proof-of-concept prototype with input voltage of 59 V/161 V, load voltage of 178 V/73.5 V, maximum switching frequency of 4.9 kHz/3.65 kHz at 215 W/450 W in a step-up/step-down operation is considered for the experimental verification. This paper describes a dc-link voltage control method of a single-phase back-to-back cascaded H-bridge inverter (SBCI) for a medium-voltage motor drive system. The main advantage of the SBCI topology over the conventional regenerative cascaded H-bridge topology with a three-phase active front-end (AFE) is a simple system structure, which is composed of an input transformer, a power cell, a current sensor, etc. However, the challenging points of the SBCI are larger voltage ripple in the dc-link capacitor and imbalance of dc-link voltages of each phase. The asymmetric dc-link voltage of each power cells could cause unstable operation such as over-modulation due to the lack of the dc-link voltage of a particular phase and result in over-voltage or under-voltage faults. In this paper, the control strategy of the dc-link voltage for the SBCI that uses the negative-sequence voltage of the converter is described. The proposed control method is verified with a computer simulation whose target is a 6.6-kV–1.25-MW medium-voltage drive system. Also, through the experimental setup with the prototype SBCI whose power rating is 16.2 kVA, the dc-link voltage of each AFE has been controlled within a 0.5% error of its reference value at the full load. A modular multilevel converter (MMC) is regarded as a promising topology in high-voltage direct current systems. However, the MMC consists of numerous submodules (SMs) and switching devices, which lead to a considerable switching loss, and increased cost and size of the heat sink. To mitigate these issues, this paper presents a novel modulation method composed of fundamental frequency modulation (FFM) and multicarrier-based sinusoidal pulsewidth modulation schemes. The main purpose of this modulation method is the reduction of switching loss while maintaining good harmonic performance. However, the FFM scheme leads to the unbalanced capacitor voltage of each SM in the MMC. Accordingly, this paper additionally proposes the rotation method and selective voltage balancing control for SMs to ensure effective performance of the method. The three-phase dual active bridge (3p-DAB) converter is a promising topology for high power dc–dc conversion due to advantages of bidirectional power flow, inherent soft-switching capability, and reduced filter volume. This paper presents comprehensive analysis of the duty cycle control (DCC) for optimizing the performance of the 3p-DAB. Based on DCC, an optimized modulation strategy is proposed to minimize the conduction losses of the 3p-DAB in the whole load range. The proposed modulation strategy extends the soft-switching range of the 3p-DAB with large voltage variations simultaneously. It is established through loss analysis that the proposed modulation strategy boosts the efficiency of the 3p-DAB, especially at low loads. When the duty cycles change fast as a result of the abruptly changed transmission power, the transformer currents can become unbalanced, leading to the magnetic bias and oscillations in dc currents. This paper further proposes a fast transient current control (FTCC) method for the 3p-DAB with variable duty cycles. The FTCC enables the converter to transfer from one steady state to another within about one-third switching period, hence balancing the transformer currents rapidly and avoiding oscillations in dc currents. In data center and telecommunication power supplies, the front-end dc–dc stage is required to operate with a wide input voltage range to provide hold-up time when ac input fails. Conventional LLC converter serving as the dc–dc stage is not suitable for this requirement, as the normal operation efficiency (at 400 V input) will be penalized once the converter is designed to achieve high peak gain (wide input voltage range). This paper examined the operation of the LCLC converter and revealed that the LCLC converter could be essentially equivalent to a set of LLC converters with different magnetizing inductors that are automatically adjusted for different input voltages. In nominal 400 V input operation, the LCLC converter behaves like an LLC converter with large magnetizing inductor, thus the resonant current is small. In the hold-up period, when the input voltage reduces, the equivalent magnetizing inductor will reduce together with switching frequency reducing, thus the converter achieves high peak gain. In this paper, a new design methodology is also proposed to achieve optimal utilization of the two resonant capacitors for high power application. To verify the effectiveness of the LCLC converter for hold-up operation, comprehensive analysis has been conducted; a detailed step by step design example based on capacitor voltage stress is introduced; an experimental LCLC prototype optimized at 400 V, with input voltage range of 250–400 V and 12 V/500 W as output has been presented. A single-stage three-phase ac–ac converter benefiting from a high-frequency alternating link voltage is proposed in this paper. In this converter, a very small film capacitor can transfer the energy from the input to the output, owing to the high-frequency alternating voltage of the link. This eliminates the need for large electrolytic capacitors that are typically used in dc-link ac–ac converters. Moreover, a compact high-frequency transformer at the link can replace the bulky low-frequency transformers, in case isolation is required. These features increase the power density as well as reliability of the proposed converter in comparison with the conventional dc-link converters. The number of required switches in the proposed converter is 12, which is less than the number of switches needed in matrix converters, leading to lower switching and conduction losses. Despite being single-stage, the proposed ac–ac converter is capable of both stepping up and stepping down the voltage and also frequency transformation. This eliminates the need for using cascaded power converters. In this paper, a new structure for a nonisolated boost dc–dc converter is proposed. The proposed converter generates higher voltage gain than some conventional nonisolated boost dc–dc converters. In this paper, the voltage and current equations of the elements and voltage gain in continuous conduction mode and discontinuous conduction mode are extracted. Then, the critical inductance converter is extracted and the current stresses in the switches are calculated. To achieve high voltage gain, a generalized structure based on the proposed structure generates for dc–dc converters. Meanwhile, the root mean square current relations of devices are obtained for an extended structure. In this paper, a high step-up quasi-Z Source (QZS) dc–dc converter is proposed. This converter uses a hybrid switched-capacitors switched-inductor method in order to achieve high voltage gains. The proposed converter have resolved the voltage gain limitation of the basic QZS dc–dc converter while keeping its main advantages, such as continuous input current and low voltage stress on capacitors. Compared to the basic converter, the duty cycle is not limited, and the voltage stress on the diodes and switch is not increased. In addition to these features, the proposed converter has a flexible structure, and extra stages could be added to it in order to achieve even higher voltage gains without increasing the voltage stress on devices or limiting the duty cycle. The operation principle of the converter and related relationships and waveforms are presented in the paper. Also, a comprehensive comparison between the proposed and other QZS based dc–dc converters is provided which confirms the superiority of the proposed converter. Simulations are done in power systems computer aided design (PSCAD) in order to investigate the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) capability of the converter. Dual active bridge (DAB) based converters offer the benefit of smaller volume due to high-frequency isolation and controllability of active power flow, making them attractive for various applications, such as renewable energy generation, plug-in hybrid vehicles, and distribution systems. This paper presents a novel converter topology along with a modulation strategy for a DAB-based three-phase ac to dc converter. The major benefits are single-stage conversion, no unreliable intermediate dc-link capacitor, reduced number of switches, i.e., only two active switches on the ac side, simple control scheme, open-loop unity power factor operation, bidirectional power flow, and partial soft-switching. This paper discusses dynamic behavior of a dual-active-bridge (DAB) dc–dc converter. Conventional phase-shift control methods for the DAB converter may cause dc offsets in both inductor current and transformer magnetizing current in transient states. The dc offset in the inductor current would introduce an excessive peak current through the switching devices. The dc offset in the magnetizing current may induce magnetic-flux saturation. Conventional methods simultaneously turn on and off the diagonal switches in each H-bridge converter and produce a square-wave voltage with a 50% duty ratio. In contrast, the proposed method in this paper independently controls each switch to modify the duty ratio in transient states. This paper clearly derives the requirements of each switch to eliminate the dc offsets in both currents with a settling time shorter than half the switching period. Experimental results using a 5-kW 20-kHz system verify the validity of the proposed control method, which is effective not only in a single step change, but also in a continuous change in the phase-shift reference. This paper is introducing a new method of operation for a series resonant converter, with intended application in megawatt high-voltage dc wind turbines. Compared to a frequency controlled series resonant converter operated in subresonant mode, the method (entitled pulse removal technique) allows the design of the medium frequency transformer for highest switching frequency, while being operated at lower frequency without saturation. The main focus of this paper is to identify and analyze the operating modes of the converter with pulse removal technique. With the use of variable frequency and variable phase displacement in subresonant mode, the new method of operation promises transformer size reduction and facilitates soft-switching transition of the insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) and line frequency diodes on rectifier side. Superjunction MOSFETs in cascode configuration with low-voltage silicon MOSFETs are evaluated in this paper. The proposed structure combines the good switching performance provided by the cascode configuration with the benefits of the silicon technology such as its robustness, maturity, and low cost. This paper aims to explain and to demonstrate the reduction of switching losses of superjunction MOSFETs in cascode configuration with respect to their standalone counterparts (directly driven). A detailed simulation analysis of power loss contributions is carried out under hard-switching operation. This paper introduces a non-isolated high step-up dc–dc converter with dual coupled inductors suitable for distributed generation applications. By implementing an input parallel connection, the proposed dc–dc structure inherits shared input current with low ripple, which also requires small capacitive filter at its input. Moreover, this topology can reach high voltage gain by using dual coupled inductors in series connection at the output stage. The proposed converter uses active clamp circuits with a shared clamp capacitor for the main switches. In addition to the active clamp circuit, the leakage energy is recycled to the output by using an integrated regenerative snubber. Indeed, these circuits allow soft-switching conditions, i.e., zero voltage switching and zero current switching for active and passive switching devices, respectively. The mentioned features along with a common ground connection of the input and output make the proposed topology a proper candidate for transformer-less grid-connected photovoltaic systems. This paper proposes a new bidirectional resonant dc–dc converter suitable for wide voltage gain range applications (e.g., energy storage systems). The proposed converter overcomes the narrow voltage gain range of conventional resonant dc–dc converters, and meanwhile achieves high efficiency throughout the wide range of operation voltage. It is achieved by configuring a full-bridge mode and a half-bridge mode operation during each switching cycle. A fixed-frequency phase-shift control scheme is proposed and the normalized voltage gain can be always from 0.5 to 1, regardless of the load. The transformer root-mean-square (rms) currents in both the forward and reverse power flow directions have a small variation with respect to the voltage gain, which is beneficial to the conduction losses reduction throughout a wide voltage range. The modeling and control of a buck–boost and stacked dual half-bridge (DHB) integrated bidirectional dc–dc converter have been studied in this paper. This converter features high-voltage transfer ratio, high efficiency, and the minimum number of switches. In this paper, an extended, continuous, full-order, state-space averaging modeling method is proposed. Compared with existing methods, the proposed method exhibits higher coincidence with the switching circuit simulation, in steady and especially dynamic states. Due to its high dynamic accuracy and low complexity, the proposed modeling method provides a better theoretical analysis and a fast simulation tool for transient process and control design of converters with dual-active-bridge units, especially with DHB units. By using this method, the high-frequency transformer series inductance current is directly divided into a sampled dc component and a fluctuant component. Only the sampled dc one is included into state variables, but both components are considered into state equations. Besides, this method regards the entire converter as a linear superposition of its subsections, which provides a stepwise modeling based on linearization of subsections. Moreover, a decoupled proportional-integral control method is proposed to enhance the stability and dynamic response of the converter. This control method is analyzed by the proposed models, which can be regarded as an application of the proposed modeling method. This paper proposes a current sensorless control strategy for the dual active bridge (DAB) converter with nonlinear disturbance observer (NDO)-based load current feedforward. The proposed method can regulate both the dc-bus voltage and the current of the DAB converter without current sensors. Several performance indexes are established for the parameter design and a detailed design method is presented in this paper. When a single-phase H-bridge inverter is connected, the double-frequency oscillation from the feedback path is suppressed by proper parameter design, while the transient response of dc-bus voltage can be further improved by the NDO-based load current feedforward with a notch filter in the feedforward path. This paper presents a new feed-forward strategy for suppressing low-order harmonic circulating currents in pulsewidth-modulated (PWM) based modular multilevel converters (MMCs). The approach is based on the new average model approach established in this paper, which identifies cross-coupling interactions between the system-level and submodule elements using decomposed dependent sources. As well as improving the damping of the system, the major advantage of this approach is that it maintains the natural DC bus balance property of a PWM modulated MMC by considering the upper and lower arms together (unlike existing feed-forward schemes which treat each MMC arm independently). Moreover, unlike existing direct control resonant strategies, which require careful gain tuning and are highly dependent on the ac system frequency, the proposed approach achieves wideband circulating current ripple suppression without requiring knowledge of the circulating current harmonic frequencies and needs only a simple proportional–integral (PI) controller to regulate the circulating current dc component for power balance. This makes it particularly suitable for use in multifrequency or variable-frequency ac systems. Extensive simulation and matching experimental results, including steady-state and transient responses compared against existing circulating current suppression approaches, validate the effectiveness and benefits of this new feed-forward compensation technique. This paper presents a hybrid seven-level converter based on T-type converter and H-bridge cascaded suitable for low-voltage and high-power-density applications. The operation principles and conduction paths are analyzed comprehensively. Voltage balance control of the floating capacitors is the key point of this paper. Mathematical expressions of capacitor voltage balance conditions are deduced based on sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM). The results show that floating capacitor voltages are only balanced when the modulation index is below 0.82 under SPWM. In order to enlarge the modulation index ensuring the capacitor voltage balance, space vector modulation (SVM) is also applied to regulate floating capacitor voltages taking advantage of redundant switching vectors. Meanwhile, in SVM, there are no additional control requirements for the capacitor voltage. Taken both SPWM and SVM into consideration, the limit to the range of operation for this seven-level converter is presented, which is a function of the modulation index and the power factor. The merit of dc voltage utilization improvement in this topology is also analyzed based on simulation results. An extended-duty-ratio (EDR) boost converter is studied extensively in this paper for high voltage gain applications with a wide input (and/or output) voltage range. The EDR is a unique combination of an interleaved, multiphase boost converter and switched capacitor configuration that achieves high voltage gain with significantly lower switch voltage stress and switching losses compared to conventional high-gain solutions. Most of the switches in the multiphase EDR experience only a fixed fraction of the output voltage ($1/M, 2/M$ , etc., where $M$ is the number of phases). Through extensive analysis over a wide operating range, it is shown here that the EDR boost converter has inherent current sharing among the phases only in a limited range of duty ratio— $(M-1)/M \leq D \leq 1$. As the duty ratio reduces beyond this range as required in wide input voltage applications, inherent current sharing property is lost. In this paper, techniques to ensure current sharing under all operating zones without requiring current sensors are presented. Instead of having equal duty ratio for each phase, it is adjusted for each phase according to the operating region of the converter. Extensive analysis is presented to derive the required duty ratio changes for the different phases. This paper introduces a novel five-level nested neutral point piloted (NNPP) converter and analyzes the operating principle of five-level NNPP converter. This paper presents a novel space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) algorithm based on gh coordinate for five-level NNPP converter. First, the common-mode voltage is reduced by choosing the appropriate redundant switching states. After that, the floating-capacitor voltage balance control strategy is presented. The appropriate switch combinations of each phase are determined by the control requirements of floating-capacitor voltages respectively and the hardware mapping method of the switching states is presented. Furthermore, the neutral-point voltage balance control strategy is presented. In order to balance the dc-link capacitor voltages, the seven-segment switching sequence is selected according to the control requirements of dc-link capacitor voltages and the neutral-point voltage regulatory factor is introduced to regulate the durations of the redundant switching states in a switching cycle. Finally, the validity of the novel SVPWM algorithm with decoupling control strategies of floating-capacitor voltages and dc-link capacitor voltages is verified by the experimental results of five-level NNPP converter under steady-state and dynamic conditions. A new static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) based on the diode-clamped modular multilevel converter (DCM2 C) is proposed in this paper. In this converter topology, the capacitor voltage is clamped by using a low power rating diode in each submodule. The quantity of voltage sensors is significantly reduced and is free from the number of voltage levels. Furthermore, the voltage balancing control method becomes very simple and the capacitor voltage balance speed is fast. Based on the structure of modular multilevel converter, the DCM2C-STATCOM has the capability of Var compensation and negative-sequence current compensation. The topology characteristics and compensation control method of DCM2C-STATCOM are investigated in this paper. An efficient power converter system plays a significant role in the design of battery charging systems for electric vehicles (EVs). In this paper, a new zero-voltage and zero-current switching (ZVZCS) full-bridge dc–dc converter is proposed to reduce the power conversion losses. The proposed converter incorporates a new asymmetrical pulse width modulation (APWM) gating technique for the dc–dc conversion stage in the battery charging system. The proposed dc–dc converter topology achieves zero-voltage switching (ZVS) for all the active switches and near zero-current switching (ZCS) for low-side active switches throughout the charging range of the battery. The proposed APWM technique can reduce the switching and conduction losses compared to the conventional phase-shift modulation (PSM) gating technique. The auxiliary inductance required to ensure ZVS with APWM can also be reduced compared to PSM. Analysis, design, and implementation of the proposed APWM ZVZCS full-bridge dc-dc converter are discussed in this paper. The power efficiency and weight of present point-of-load (POL) dc–dc converters for drone applications are often compromised because they suffer from large switching losses at continuous conduction mode for heavy loads and excessive hardware overheads at discontinuous conduction mode for light loads. This paper presents a boundary conduction mode (BCM) control scheme for POL converters embodying a single operation mode. This is achieved by means of a hysteresis voltage controller to turn on/off the output power stage when necessary. The proposed BCM control scheme achieves high power efficiency (≥91.2%) over a wide load range (5 mA–1 A) by means of fully soft switching. Specifically, a hysteretic current controller is proposed to realize ZCS, and an adaptive dead time controller is proposed to realize ZVS. Further, the proposed BCM control scheme requires a small output inductor (0.82 μH) by means of designing the customizable peak inductor current. To verify the proposed BCM control scheme, we realize a BCM-based POL converter that features an input voltage range of 5–16 V, output voltage range of 2.5–8 V, switching frequency of 1.5 MHz, peak power efficiency of 96.8%, and ≤35 mV output voltage undershoot/overshoot for 1-A load step. When being benchmarked against state-of-the-art counterparts, the proposed design features the lowest voltage undershoot/overshoot, the highest switching frequency, ∼5.7× smaller inductor, and ∼11% higher power efficiency at light loads. In this paper, a novel topology of modular dc–dc converter has been proposed for medium voltage dc (MVdc) integration of high-penetration distributed PV. The proposed topology is featured with input-independent and output-series connected configuration and intermodule power balancing units (PBUs). A high voltage gain could be achieved with series-connected submodules (SMs), while each SM's input port is connected with PV array to realize the independent maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control function. PBUs with bidirectional power conversion ability are installed between adjacent SMs for the elimination of intermodule power mismatch. The operation principles of the proposed converter have been explained in detail along with the corresponding control strategies. The design principles of major passive components have been investigated on the basis of boundary operation conditions, while a quantitative analysis of steady-state power losses has been performed. This paper proposes the design of gray wolf optimizer (GWO) algorithm-based fractional order proportional integral (FOPI) controller for power factor correction (PFC) using interleaved dc–dc single ended primary inductance converter converter with improved performance characteristics such as speed, accuracy, and stability. The detailed analysis and modeling of the proposed converter are presented. The optimal parameters of FOPI controller are obtained using GWO algorithm to improve the speed of response of the system. FOPI controller provides better performance in terms of robustness and stability since it has one more adjustable parameter than the conventional proportional integral (PI) controller. The cascade control strategy is implemented for the proposed converter with GWO-based FOPI controller as inner current and outer voltage controllers for PFC and load voltage regulation. The performance characteristics of the proposed system are analyzed and compared with conventional and other optimization techniques using MATLAB/Simulink software. In the no-load condition, LLC converter usually fails to regulate its output voltage although it operates at a high switching frequency. Till now, it is hard to obtain the exact relationship between design parameters and the maximum switching frequency for no-load regulation capability. In this paper, a specific criterion for no-load regulation of LLC converter is provided, without using active components or other modulation schemes. By analyzing the macroscopic switching period and microscopic switching transition in the no-load condition, it is shown that not only the peaking resonant current during the switching transition, but also the resonant tank design affect the no-load regulation of the LLC converter, which affects the no-load regulation capability. Furthermore, the relationship among design parameters is analyzed and the design guideline is also provided to achieve no-load regulation at the specified maximum switching frequency. A systematic method for developing ultra-wide output voltage range power supply based on modular switched-converter principle is proposed in this paper. The basic symmetric switched-converter (SSC) module is composed of two dc–dc modules, two diodes, and one active switch. Multi-stage SSC modules are generated by symmetric cascaded connection method. By controlling the active switches in multi-stage SSC modules, the connections of all the dc–dc modules’ output ports can be changed flexibly among series, parallel, and partial–parallel–partial-series connections. Then segmented regulation can be realized and system output voltage range can be widely extended. Meanwhile, the voltage range of each dc–dc module can be narrowed and the voltage/current stress can be reduced to simplify the design, increase device utilization ratio, and improve overall efficiency. A full-bridge isolated buck–boost converter with a semiactive rectifier, which features soft-switching and wide voltage adjustment range, is adopted as the dc–dc module to realize the proposed system. Input current sharing control strategy is adopted to ensure proper power balancing in all possible operating modes. The stability of the proposed system is also explored. Photovoltaic (PV) systems having rechargeable batteries are prone to be complex and costly because multiple converters are necessary to individually regulate a load, PV panel, and battery. This paper proposes novel nonisolated multiport converters (MPCs) integrating a bidirectional pulsewidth modulation (PWM) converter and phase-shift-switched capacitor converter (PS-SCC) for standalone PV systems. A PWM converter and PS-SCC are integrated by reducing the total switch count, realizing the simplified system and circuit. In the proposed MPCs, two control freedoms of duty cycle and phase shift angle are manipulated to individually regulate the load, PV panel, and/or battery. The detailed operation analysis was performed to mathematically derive gain characteristics and zero voltage switching operation boundaries. For the battery discharging mode, in which the PV panel is not available and the MPC behaves as a single-input–single-output converter with two control freedoms available, the optimized control scheme achieving the lowest rms current is also proposed to maximize power conversion efficiencies. Various kinds of experimental verification tests using a 200-W prototype were performed to verify the theoretical analysis and to demonstrate the performance of the proposed MPC. In this paper, the performance and reliability of a cost-effective novel integrated power converter (NIPC) are investigated in comparison to the asymmetric half-bridge power converter (AHBPC) for switched reluctance drive (SRD) system. First, with the soft chopping manner, the working modes and voltage equations of NIPC are illustrated to develop the conventional control strategies. Second, given that the power switches are the reliability-critical devices of converters, a novel control strategy is put forward to shorten the operation time and lower the electrical stress of power switches. Besides, the SRD system with NIPC can still operate with the faults of power switches, especially the output torque of faulty phase is not zero when the open-circuit fault happens. But in order to further enlarge the output torque of faulty phase and lower the torque ripple, the fault-tolerance strategy is proposed. Next, to effectively evaluate the topologies from the perspective of reliability, a unified Markov model is introduced to conduct the static and dynamic reliability analysis, illustrating that the reliability of NIPC is evidently higher than AHBPC. Phase-shift full-bridge (PSFB) converter is a widely used topology for high-efficiency and high-power applications, thanks to low voltage/current stress of all components and zero-voltage-switching operation of primary mosfets. The critical drawback of the PSFB converter is hard-switching characteristics of primary mosfets at a very light load, which causes severe thermal explosion and extremely high input power consumption, especially with the latest super-junction mosfet. To minimize the switching loss of the PSFB converter at a very light load, a new optimal dead-time control scheme with burst-mode operation is proposed in this paper and its validity is verified experimentally with the implemented 2.2-kW server power supply unit. In high-voltage bus-based photovoltaic systems, a power electronic interface is required to manage the power flow in between the photovoltaic (PV) panel, battery, and the high-voltage dc bus. In this paper, a novel three-port dc/dc topology is proposed for this application. Pulsewidth and phase-shift offer two degrees of freedom to effectively regulate the power flows. On the primary side, the input current ripple is reduced due to the interleaved structure. This avoids the usage of the bulky electrolytic capacitors on the PV terminal. On the secondary side, a voltage sixfolder rectifier is employed to boost the step-up ratio. This reduces the transformer's secondary-side turns number. Moreover, the voltage stresses of secondary-side mosfets and diodes are reduced to one-third of the output voltage. Zero-voltage switching and zero-current switching are realized among all power mosfets and diodes, respectively, and in an extended range. A 500-W converter prototype, linking a battery pack, a PV panel, and a 760 V dc bus, is designed and tested to verify the proof-of-concept. A novel high step-down dc–dc converter with voltage demultiplier cell is proposed in this paper, which is widely used in the high step-down applications such as electric vehicle and digital circuits. The combination of switched-capacitor and coupled-inductor is employed to build extended voltage demultiplier in the proposed converter, which makes a quite higher voltage conversion ratio than that of the existing counterparts. Thus, the proposed converter can achieve extremely low output voltage with an appropriate duty ratio, and the extreme duty cycle is avoided. Accordingly, voltage stress on power switches is greatly reduced. Then, mosfets with low conduction resistance could be utilized to reduce conduction loss. Importantly, zero-voltage switching could be achieved for the main switch, which promotes the conversion efficiency further. In addition, the coupled inductor operates not only as a filter inductor, but also as a transformer when the main switch is in the off state, which reduces the volume of the magnetic core and improves the power density of the converter. This paper discussed an active-bridge-active-clamp (ABAC) topology that is suitable for highpower more-electric-aircraft applications. Though conventional modulation techniques can be applied to ABAC converters, they present drawbacks, such as increased low-voltage (LV) current ripple and limited power transfer capability. To address these problems, a phase-shift-modulation (PSM) scheme is proposed to provide clean dc terminal current at the LV side while maintaining high power transfer capability and efficiency in a wide operating range. The proposed PSM has a complete switching harmonics cancellation on the LV terminals independent of the operating conditions. This results in high quality power without any ac components, thus minimizing passive filtering. In addition, when terminal voltages vary from their nominal values, the proposed PSM can improve the maximum power transfer capability of the ABAC converter compared to the conventional approach. In this paper, a systematic and analytical study of non-isolated topologies belonging to the family of reduced redundant power processing (R2P2) converters is presented. Based on this study, all the non-isolated R2P2 topologies that can be implemented in reality are derived. Detailed examples clarify all possible cases of this analysis. In addition to this, the voltage ratio and the efficiency for each one of the R2P2 configurations are calculated, being further illustrated with examples. A comparison among configurations is also discussed with criteria the high step-up voltage gain and efficiency, aiming for high-power applications. One of these R2P2 converters is selected for further examination, as the most suitable for such applications. The theoretical analysis, as well as the calculations of the step-up voltage ratio and efficiency of the selected converter, is compared to experimental results conducted on a 2-kW laboratory prototype designed to operate in various step-up voltage ratios and in a high-power range, proving the effectiveness of the proposed investigation. The efficiency improvement of the on–off controlled Class E dc–dc converter operated at 20 MHz switching frequency is investigated in this paper. It is found that with the on–off control, the input power of the converter during the on mode increases with the increase of the input voltage, and it can be reduced by increasing the switching frequency. With this discovery, a variable switching frequency (VSF) on–off control is proposed, which slightly increases the switching frequency when the input voltage increases, maintaining the input power during the on mode slightly higher than the rated output power over the entire input voltage range, and thus highly improving the efficiency of Class E dc–dc converter at high input voltage. A prototype of 9-V–18-V input, 10-W Class E dc–dc converter has been fabricated and tested in the lab. The experimental results show that the proposed VSF on–off control improves the conversion efficiency of the Class E dc–dc converter by 4%–10% compared to the constant switching frequency on–off control. A multiphase-interleaved non-isolated high step-up dc/dc resonant converter for high-current applications with wide load range is proposed in this paper. The converter consists of an inverter stage with multiple resonant inverters in parallel interleaving operation that is cascaded to a common diode–capacitor rectifier stage. The topology of the inverter stage is a variation of class E inverter, which is designed for voltage boosting and of which the voltage gain is insensitive to load change. The rectifier stage comprises multiple pairs (correlated to the number of inverters in parallel) of diodes in parallel and a small output capacitor, which makes it simple to implement and of low cost. Together, the voltage gain variance of the converter can be confined within a small value and zero voltage switching operation can be maintained over a wide load range. A detailed mathematical analysis of the proposed converter is conducted for systematizing its design. A prototype of the proposed converter with an input voltage of 23.6 V, a rated output voltage of 190 V, and a rated output power of 80 W at 486 kHz is constructed for verification. A family of bidirectional switched-capacitor (SC) converters with high-gain ratio of any positive integer is proposed in this paper for distributed energy resources applications. As compared with other existing SC converters achieving a same conversion gain, the main advantages of the proposed converters are that they require a relatively lower number of switches and capacitors, have a relatively lower switch's and capacitor's stress, and that their associated driver circuits are simpler to realize. Importantly, with the achievable conversion ratio being flexible and that the input and output of the proposed converters are of common ground, the proposed converters are widely suitable for many applications. Moreover, as the proposed converters do not possess magnetic component or any component that can severely degrade the converters’ performance at high temperature, they are especially useful for high-temperature applications. Besides, the proposed converters are capable of delivering bidirectional power, which is a key requirement for emerging applications with battery storages. Different aspects of the proposed converters, including a simple auxiliary power supply circuit for the MOSFETs’ drivers, will be discussed in this paper. A nine-time SC converter prototype that operates with 20-V input voltage, 100-W output, and at 75 kHz, is constructed and tested. Experiment results show that the maximum efficiency achievable with this prototype is over 98% (without driver's loss) and the efficiency over the entire load range between 25 and 100 W is over 95.5% including the driver's loss. The output voltage ripple of the SC converter is less than 1%. This paper presents a method for generating a multilevel dodecagonal voltage space vector structure using a single dc source for induction motor drives. Multilevel dodecagonal structure combines the advantages of both multilevel and dodecagonal structures, and hence, generates low dv/dt phase voltage along with the elimination of fifth- and seventh-order harmonics over the entire modulation range. This eliminates low-order harmonic currents and prevents the generation of sixth-order torque ripple in the motor. The topology used requires only one dc source making four-quadrant operation of the drive system simpler compared to previously proposed multilevel topologies generating dodecagonal space vector structures. The topology used consists of a three-level flying capacitor (FC) inverter cascaded with a capacitor fed H-bridge. The FC inverter operates at a lower switching frequency and the low-order harmonics are eliminated by the switching action of the cascaded H-bridge inverter. The capacitors in the cascaded H-bridge modules are maintained at a substantially smaller voltage compared to the dc-link voltage and are inherently balanced during the pulsewidth modulation operation. This results in low switching loss, in the FC inverter as well as in the cascaded H-bridge inverter. In this paper, the Z-source converter is introduced to power factor correction (PFC) applications. The concept is demonstrated through a wireless power transfer (WPT) system for electric vehicle battery charging, namely Z-source resonant converter (ZSRC). Due to the Z-source network (ZSN), the ZSRC inherently performs PFC and regulate the system output voltage simultaneously, without adding extra semiconductor devices and control circuitry to the conventional WPT system such as conventional PFC converters do. In other words, the ZSN can be categorized as a family of the single-stage PFC converters. In addition, the ZSN is suitable for high-power applications since it is immune to shoot-through states, which increases reliability and adds a boost feature to the system. The ZSRC-based WPT system operating principle is described and analyzed in this paper. Simulations and experimental results based on a 1-kW prototype with 20-cm air gap between the system primary and secondary sides are presented to validate the analysis and demonstrate the effectiveness of the ZSN in the PFC of the WPT system. Magnetically coupled impedance-source (MCIS) networks are recently introduced impedance networks intended for various high-boost applications. It employs coupled magnetic in the circuit to achieve higher voltage gain. Various MCIS networks have been proposed in the literature for myriad applications; however, due to effective role of system modeling in the closed-loop controller design, this paper is allocated to small-signal modeling and analysis of MCIS converters. The modeling is performed by means of the circuit averaging and averaged switch technique. A generalized small-signal derivation is demonstrated for pulse width modulation (PWM) MCIS converters and it is shown that the derived transfer functions can simply be applied to Y-source, Γ-source, and T-source impedance networks. Various transfer functions for capacitor voltage, output voltage, magnetizing current, input and output impedance are derived and have been validated through frequency and dynamic responses of computer simulation results. In addition, a comprehensive analysis has been done for all mentioned PWM MCIS converters regarding their circuit parameters. Furthermore, the effect of considering the equivalent series resistances of capacitor and inductor on the stability margin of MCIS converters is revealed in this paper. This paper proposes a new fault-tolerant strategy for a multilevel converter with an integrated impedance-source network. The proposed fault-tolerant strategy leverages the flexibility provided by the impedance-source network to implement the fundamental phase-shift compensation (FPSC) method in order to restore operation of a multilevel converter with one or more faulty switches to the prefault conditions. In case of a fault occurrence, the proposed fault-tolerant strategy makes the most use of the remaining converter capacity and generates balanced line-to-line voltages, while evenly distributing an inevitable voltage stress increase, over all converter switches. In this paper, first, a brief background about an impedance-source based cascaded H-bridge converter and a suitable modulation method for it is provided. Then, the FPSC method is explained and the proposed fault-tolerant strategy based on this method is introduced. AC voltage regulation is required in both the domestic and industrial sectors to avoid undesired effects from random voltage variations of the power supply. The paper introduces an ac voltage stabilizer/converter (ACVS) that is based on a controllable autotransformer technology. The proposed ACVS offers a specified strategy of voltage regulation, less harmonics, and low cost. The paper explains the operating principle of the ACVS and derives its nonlinear mathematical model. To ensure the desired performance of the ACVS while it is subject to uncertain input voltage and load variations, an optimal control strategy is designed. It is achieved via transforming the ACVS model extending with fictive axis emulation into a rotating reference frame and the linearization of the model via specific orientation of the reference frame and introducing a linear control action. Operation of the ACVS is simulated under different disturbances due to load and grid voltage changes, and compared to voltage stabilization with application of I and PI controllers. In several electrical dc–ac power conversions, the ac output voltage is higher than the input voltage. If a voltage-source inverter (VSI) is used, then an additional dc–dc boosting stage is required to overcome the step-down VSI limitations. Recently, several impedance source converters are gaining higher attentions [1], [2], as they are able to provide buck-boost capability in a single conversion stage. This paper proposes the merging of the boost stage and the VSI stage in a single stage dc–ac power conversion, denoted as split-source inverter (SSI). The proposed topology requires the same number of active switches of the VSI, three additional diodes, and the same eight states of a conventional space-vector modulation. It also shows some merits compared to Z-source inverters, especially in terms of reduced switch voltage stress for voltage gains higher than 1.15. This paper presents the analysis of the SSI and compares different modulation schemes. Moreover, it presents a modified modulation scheme to eliminate the low frequency ripple in the input current and the voltage across the inverter bridge. This paper presents a novel closed-loop digital control scheme to maintain proper interleaving operation of a multi-channel boundary-conduction-mode boost converter used in power-factor-correction applications. The proposed control scheme is suitable for implementation on a low-cost microcontroller. This is made possible by executing the control scheme at a constant sampling rate that is much slower than the maximum switching frequency of the converter. The performance of the control scheme is further improved by using an adaptive gain that scales with the on-time of the converter, which provides optimal phase-shift control and stability under all operating conditions. The digital closed-loop control scheme is validated experimentally on a three-channel 1-kW prototype ac–dc converter. The strive to increase the energy yield of photovoltaic (PV) power systems has made PV module integrated dc–dc converters (dc-MICs) a reality of modern PV plants. These converters regulate their input voltage, and their dynamic behavior is heavily influenced by the non-linear characteristic of the PV module. The regulation of the PV module voltage and average inductor current by means of a linear cascaded controller is a popular control technique, simplifying the converter dynamics, and providing inherent current limiting; however, it is prone to instability depending on the interaction between the PV source and the interfacing converter, as well as the value of the controller parameters. These factors present a clear challenge for control design; moreover, the converter transient response undesirably depends on the PV module operating point. In order to solve these issues, while maintaining regulation of PV module voltage and average inductor current, this paper proposes to adopt a non-linear controller designed with the feedback linearization control (FLC) technique. The control laws are derived and implemented in a non-inverting buck–boost dc module integrated converter, as this is a favorite topology for the PV interfacing application. A digitally controlled converter prototype is built and used to obtain experimental results, where the FLC technique is compared with a linear cascaded control technique. The results confirm the superior performance of the presented FLC technique, which is robust and able to regulate the converter input voltage with fast and consistent dynamics, regardless of the PV module or load operating conditions. In a power electronics system, an electrolytic capacitor (E-Cap) is widely used, whose performance degradation can be reflected by the change of capacitance (C) and equivalent series resistance (ESR). This paper proposes a new online C and ESR monitoring scheme for the output electrolytic capacitor in a discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) flyback converter. The mathematical relationship between the instantaneous capacitor voltage and other parameters is analyzed and then the scheme of undetermined coefficients based on the multiple-spot sampling and least square method is further proposed. In addition, considering the particularity of high ripple current and the resultant voltage ripple variation range, especially with the temperature, an inverse ripple voltage isolation amplifier with variable amplification factor and negative voltage elimination is put forward so as to make digital signal processor identify the temperature change easily. The proposed scheme is noninvasive as only voltage signals need to be sampled and no current sensor is necessary. A prototype is built and the experiments are made to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, from which the data are in accordance with the results measured by an LCR meter. This paper presents a new interleaved active clamp forward converter for low and wide input, and high current output applications. In the proposed converter, the operating duty ratio can be extended over 0.5 due to the additional powering path resulting from additional series-connected secondary windings from each transformer. As a result, the proposed converter can be designed with large transformer turns ratio. Thus, since the proposed converter can reduce not only the primary RMS current but also switch turn-off current, it can achieve high efficiency. Moreover, since all secondary switches can operate without floating gate drivers, the proposed converter can maintain simple structure and low complexity of gate driving circuits in the secondary side. Ripple-based constant on-time and off-time control techniques can achieve fast step-down and step-up transient performance along with an improved light-load efficiency. However, they suffer from varying switching frequency at the steady state and often require a phase-locked loop for frequency regulation. This paper proposes a constant on/off-time hybrid modulation technique in a digitally current-mode controlled synchronous buck converter. The proposed technique considers an event-based sampling mechanism using one sample per switching cycle, which makes it useful for high-frequency implementation. This requires a monoshot timer and a digital voltage controller $G_c(z)$. The proposed technique can be configured to a constant on-time or off-time modulator with seamless transition because of sharing $G_c(z)$ ; thus, improved step-up/down transient performance can be retained. Furthermore, a discrete-time framework is proposed for fast-scale stability analysis, and the effects of finite sampling and practical parasitics are discussed. Discrete-time small-signal models are derived for the direct digital control design with enhanced stability and performance. A frequency adaptation method is discussed to customize the switching frequency in real time. A high-performance impedance-source converter utilizing switched inductor is proposed in this paper, which can be adopted in the applications demanding high-voltage conversion. The proposed converter not only retains the advantage of quasi-Z-source of sharing common ground between the input and output but also possesses the superiorities of enhanced boost ability and lower stresses as well as higher efficiency. The ultra-high voltage gain dc–dc converters are extremely required because of the low voltage level of many nonpolluting power resources. This paper proposes an ultra-high voltage gain converter based on an interleave technique and using three-winding coupled inductor and voltage multiplier cell. The interleave technique is useful for reducing the size of the filter components. In the proposed converter, high voltage gain is achieved without extreme duty cycle of solid-state switches. The voltage stress across the semiconductor devices can be reduced by increasing the turn ratio of the secondary of the coupled inductors. In addition, because of the implementation of the interleave structure, peak-to-peak variation of the main input current and switching losses are substantially reduced.
