The interaction of bis(pentafluorophenyl)mercury or trimeric perfluoro-o-phenylene mercury with selected arenes (naphthalene, biphenyl, and fluorene) was investigated. It was shown that cooperative effects are involved in the spin-orbit perturbation that perfluoro-o-phenylene mercury provides to arenes and bis(pentafluorophenyl)mecury readily assembles with arenes to form room-temperature phosphorescent supramolecules with short triplet lifetimes.

The preparation of two new niobium and zinconiobium fluorophosphates, NbOF[(P[O.sub.4]).sub.2][([C.sub.2][H.sub.10][N.sub.2]).sub.2] and [Zn.sub.3](NbOF)(P[O.sub.4]).sub.4][([C.sub.2][H.sub.10][N.sub.2]).sub.2] (2) was carried out under hydrothermal conditions using ethylenediamine as a template. The topolocal relationships between the 4-connected network of (2) and several reported (3,4)-connected networks were discussed.

A new layered fluoroaluminophosphate [([C.sub.4][H.sub.11]NOH).sub.3.5][[Al.sub.4][(P[O.sub.4]).sub.5]F].0.5[H.sub.3]O denoted as AlPO-CJ20 with an Al/P ratio of 4:5 was solvothermally synthesized by using 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol as the template in the presence of [F.sup.-] ions. The alternation of Al-centered tetrahedra (Al[O.sub.4] and Al[O.sub.3]F) and P[O.sub.3](=O) tetrahedra gives rise to a new type of 4.6 16-net sheet.

The syntheses, structural and spectroscopic characterization, fluoride abstraction reactions, and photochemical reactivity of cationic uranyl(VI) phosphine oxide complexes are described. The results illustrate an equal degree of lability associated with uranium(IV) oxidation as is found with uranyl(VI) reduction, presumably as both proceed through the same reactive uranyl(V) intermediate.

The X-ray analyses shows that the difluorcarbene complex [[Fe.sub.2][(CO).sub.8](mu-C[F.sub.2])] reacts with As[Me.sub.3] under CO substitution to give the [mu]-C[F.sub.2] containing complexes [[Fe.sub.2][(CO).sub.6][(AsMe3).sub.2](mu-C[F.sub.2)] and [[Fe.sub.2][(CO).sub.5][(AsMe3).sub.3](mu-C[F.sub.2])] which have an [[Fe.sub.2][(CO).sub.9].sup.-] like structure. The AIM analysis of the complexes indicates that there is no direct [sigma]-bonding interaction between the two iron atoms inside the dinuclear complexes which support the leading rule of the CO and C[F.sub.2] bridges in keeping the dinuclear integrity found from MO analysis in similar compounds.

Four osmium(VII) fluorine compounds, OsO3[F.sup.9], OsO2F3, OsOF5 and OsF7 are reinspected to see whether they exist and whether they are true Os(VII) compounds. It was found that of the four osmium fluorine compounds in the oxidation state &, only one (OsOF5) are a real Os(VII) compound.

The syntheses and characterization of [(cyclamacetate)FeF]PF6 and the corresponding N-methylated complex [(trimethylcyclamacetate)FeF]PF6 are described. The results show that the difference in spin states between these complexes is a combination of solvation, steric, and electronic effects and that the most important effects are likely steric and electronic.

The preparation of the [NBu(sub 4)][Pt(C(sub 6)F(sub 5))(sub 3)L] complexes containing triazene (L), formamidine and 2-aminopyridine was carried out. In formamidine the Pt-H bond interaction is stable enough to be detected in the solution whereas in 2-aminopyridine the Pt-H bond can be observed in crystal but not in solution.

New series of Cu(super II) chemical vapor deposition (CVD) precursors are introduced, where the copper metal is chelated by two fluorinated imino alcoholate or amino alcoholate ligands. It can be noted that the low concentration of O2 promotes partial ligand oxidation, thus releasing the reduced copper on the substrate and affording the high-purity copper deposit.

The preparation and characterization of the first series of platinum(II) complexes with (fluoren-9-ylidene)methanedithiolate and its 2,7-di-tert-butyl- and 2,7-dimethoxy-substituted derivatives and also the effect of the electron-donating character of the dithiolato ligands on their photoluminescence and reactivity are described. The oxidation and protonation reactions of the anionic complex with (2,7-di-tert-butyfluoren-9-ylidene)methanedithiolate, which lead to the formation of an unprecedented Pt(II)-Pt(IV) dithiolato complex or dithioato complexes, respectively, are presented.

The crystal and geometric structure and conformational properties of fluoroformyl trifluoroacetyl (FC(O)SSC(O)CF3) in the gas phase are determined by gas electron diffraction and vibrational spectroscopic methods [IR(gas), IR(matrix), and Raman(liquid)], supplemented by quantum chemical calculations and X-ray diffraction. The crystalline solid consists exclusively of the (sp-sp) conformation and the geometrical parameters agree with those obtained for the molecule in the gas phase.

Heteroleptic copper(II) complexes were synthesized form three different meso-substituted pyridyl- and quinoline-dipyrrinato ligands (3-pyrdpm, 3-quindpm, and 4-quinpdm). It is revealed that flourine-fluorine contacts could be used to modulate supramolecular structures in the solid state.

A study shows that reduction of the radical cation [NSSNC-CNSNS][AsF6] with ferrocene leads to the novel biradical (super .)NSNSC-CNSSN(super .) exhibiting an exceptional pi*-pi* dimer between isomeric 1,2,3,5- and 1,3,2,4-dithiadiazolyl rings. It is shown that paramagnetism of the title biradical can be enhanced upon grinding by the magnetic susceptibility measurements.

The syntheses, Raman spectra, and crystal structures of four new metal(II) hexafluorophosphates(V) containing Xe[F.sub.2] as ligands are described. It presents that Raman spectrum of the bulky belongs to the same compound that was structurally characterized.

A study reports that fluorinated phenoxide could be used to form stable, soluble compounds of Eu(II) and Eu(III) as well as a heterovalent dimer. Dative Ln-F interactions were noted with Eu(II) ions while Eu(III) ions were observed to adopt terminal phenoxide ligations and since phenoxides are soluble in apolar media, they are potentially useful as capping reagents in lanthanide cluster chemistry.

The reaction of Al[Cl.sub.3].3Py with [Me.sub.3]SiF aimed at the synthesis of [[Al[F.sub.2][(Py).sub.4]].sup.+][Cl.sup.-] and a room-temperature stable complex with a monomer molecular structure in the solid state is reported. The [super 27]Al MAS NMR spectrum of Al[F.sub.2]Cl.4Py has revealed an unexpected complexity due to the very large quadrupolar coupling constants (QCC) and can be resolved only at spinning rates above 25 kHz.

Regioselecive nucleophilic aromatic substitution of an o-fluorine occurs to afford fluorine-substituted o-phenylene-bridged bis(anilido-aldimine) compounds. Fluorine-substituted complexes shows significantly higher turnover frequencies (TOF) than the unfluorinated analogues for C[O.sub.2]/(cyclohexene oxide) copolymerization.

A series of new monosubstituted phenylcyanoximes, containing F, Cl, and Br atoms at the 2,3, or 4 positions and their monovalent TI complexes were synthesized and structurally characterized. The crystal structures of the compounds revealed the coexistence of planar cis-syn and cis-anti isomers in the same crystal for H(3F-PhCO), nonplanar trans-anti for H(2Cl-PhCO), and anti configurations for h(4Cl-PhCO) molecules in the solid state.

(super 1)H, (super 19)F, and (super 7)Li pulsed gradient spin-echo (PGSE) NMR measurements for a series of salts are reported. It is shown that (super 1)H, (super 19)F diffusion data for a selection of small, medium, and large BF4- salts in THF solution suggest that THF generally promotes strong ion pairing.

The first tetrafluoroborate compound with XeF2 coordinated to a metal center, [Cd(XeF2)](BF4)2, was synthesized. [Cd(XeF2)]-(BF4)2 is shown to be in equilibrium with XeF2 and Cd(BF4)2 in a HF.

Research has been conducted on silver(I) double salts containing 4-hydroxyquinoline ligand. The authors describe the synthesis of these salts carried out via the hydrothermal method.
