This is an attempt of tracing an ancient PIr. cultural lexeme in the language of the Talishis, an Iranian people inhabiting the south-western shores of the Caspian Sea, historically known as Talysh or Talyshistan. The term—a unique living remnant of the Old Iranian vocabulary in the whole Western New Iranian expanse (its only cognate in New Persian survived in Classical literature)—belongs to the sphere of syrup-making and denotes primarily date-plum syrup. The paper deals with two Middle West-Iranian lexemes, namely 'copy, replica' and 'contract', borrowed into some adjacent languages, such as Classical Armenian and Aramaic. The existing explanations are reviewed, and a new etymology for either word is suggested on the basis of Akkadian source forms, namely šiknu(m) 'original' and šiṭru(m) 'written document' respectively, built in the same Iranian morphological pattern. For the first lexeme the transcription paččīn instead of the commonly accepted *pačēn is proposed, and the phonetics of the range of the loan forms in Hebrew, Old Aramaic and Classical Armenian is explained. Armenian has two main signifiers for 'nose', k'it' and pine', both remaining obscure. Presumably, they have no Indo-European origin. Body-part names usually are not borrowed. They present predominantly genuine (or substrate) forms, including ideophones, based on internal resources of the language, or terms, shaped through semantic shift of metaphors. Incidentally, the essential part of the Armenian body-part names includes lexemes of the clear IE provenance.
