The crystallographic and magnetic structures of the HfFe
6 Ge6 -type compound Ho0.5 Y0.5 Mn6 Sn6 have been studied by powder neutron diffraction andin-situ Lorentz transmission electron microscopy. Besides the nonlinear thermal expansion of lattice parameters, an incommensurate conical spiral magnetic structure was determined in the temperature interval of 2–340 K. A spin reorientation transition has been observed from 50 to 300 K, where the alignment of thec -axis component of magnetic moments of the Ho sublattice and the Mn sublattice transfers from ferrimagnetic to ferromagnetic.
