Research was conducted to characterize the development of a Nd-modified barium sodium niobate single crystal crystallizing in a tetragonal system. The crystal was grown from melt using the Czochralski method and was cut along three axes. Raman spectra was determined on a SPEX-1403 Raman spectrometer using a 300 mW argon ion laser. Results showed that crystal that has good structural and optical qualities bundled with mechanical properties.

Raman data and thermal expansion of Er: Yb: GdCa 4 O (BO 3) 3 (EYGCOB) crystals reveal that the crystal thermal conductance and thermomechanical properties are outstanding especially along the b direction. The Z-direction polarized absorbance of the b-direction wafer exhibits that the Yb 3+ ion is very effectual as a sensitizer. These indicate that the EYGCOB crystals are suitable as an infrared radiation laser at about 1500 nm by using a pump wavelength of about 1000 nm from an InGaAs diode laser. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article explains the synthesis and properties of the different spinel ferrite composites with flaky fillers that are commonly used as the electromagnetic composites. These composites are shown to be extremely useful as the electromagnetic attenuation materials with various different ultrabroad bandwidths.

A newly designed perfect matching chart to obtain the matching frequency [f.sub.m] and the matching thickness [t.sub.m] of electromagnetic (EM) attenuation material is presented. The chart results for [Ni.sub.0.97-x][Zn.sub.x][Co.sub.0.03][Fe.sub.2][O.sub.4] (NiZnCo) spinel ferrites with x=0.5 and 0.65at [t.sub.m] exhibited excellent EM attenuation characteristics with low reflectivity and broad bandwidth at very high frequency and ultrahigh frequency bands.

A study was conducted to explore the spin-orbital coupling (SOC) effect on the Josephson current through a superconductor heterojunction and a two-dimensional electron gas layer (SC/2DEG/SC) junction based on a lattice model. The results showed that the critical Josephson current could exhibit a damped oscillation with the strength of SOC, the layer length of the 2DEG, and the strength ratio angle [thetas].

The crystal thermal conduction and thermomechanical properties of (EYGCOB) crystals disclosed by Raman data and thermal expansion of Er: Yb: GdCa(sub 4)O(BO(sub 3))(sub 3) crystals are presented. The suitability of EYGCOB crystal as an infrared radiation laser at 1500nm using a pump wavelength of 1000nm from InGaAs diode laser is described.
