Objective The Pd(II) complex with pyridine?2,6?dicarboxylic acid (L) has been obtained. Methods The complex was synthesized in good yields and characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectra. We analyze the ability of the complex to cleave the pBR 322 plasmid DNA, cytotoxicity and apoptotic. Results Gel electrophoresis assay demonstrates the ability of the complex to cleave the pBR 322 plasmid DNA.The complex show cytotoxic specificity and have an apoptotic effect on HeLa cells. Conclusion The complex exhibit an efficient DNA-cleavage activity, cytotoxic studies show that the title complex exhibit cytotoxic activity against different cell lines, especially more effective against KB cell lines in general test. Objective The complex Pd(dmphen)Cl2 has been synthesized( where dmphen = 2,9-dimethyl 1,10-phenanthroline),and its mode of interaction with calf thymus DNA(CT-DNA) has been discussed by spectrum method. Methods The complex Pd(dmphen)Cl2 has been synthesized under normal conditions. The binding of the complex with CT-DNA was investigated by electronic absorption spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy, and its mode of interaction with CT-DNA has been discussed on the consideration of non-covalent intercalative way.Results The target complex has been successfully synthesized and characterized using element analysis and IR spectrum. The non-covalent bond involving the complex and CT-DNA results in hypochromism and red shift with the addition of CT-DNA in electronic absorption spectroscopy of the title complex. And the quenching of DNA-EtBr fluorescence by the addition of complex causes a reduction in the emission intensity, indicating the competition between the complex between EtBr in binding to DNA.
