β‐Sitosterol is a major bioactive constituent in plants with potent anticancer effects against many human cancer cells, but its bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy are limited by its poor solubility in water. In this study, C6‐imidazole chitosan, C6‐1‐methylimidazole chitosan, C6‐1‐ethylimidazole chitosan, C6‐1‐vinylimidazole chitosan, C6‐1‐allylimidazole chitosan, and C6‐1‐butylimidazole chitosan were prepared to extract β‐sitosterol from edible oil samples via ultrasonic‐assisted solid liquid extraction. The structures and properties of the newly synthesized products were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and elemental analysis. The extraction abilities of the derivatives were tested in the experiment with high‐performance liquid chromatography (limit of detection 0.21 μg/g and limit of quantification 0.67 μg/g), and the % relative standard deviation (<3.25%) and recovery values of the prepared chitosan derivatives toward β‐sitosterol (average: 100.20%) were acceptable. The spiked interday and intraday recoveries of β‐sitosterol were 102.60 ± 2.78 and 103.90 ± 3.04%, respectively. The actual amounts of β‐sitosterol extracted from three real samples using C6‐imidazole chitosan according to the solid phase extraction method were 3302.40, 901.70, and 2045.60 mg/kg for corn oil, olive oil, and pea oil, respectively. Novel molecularly imprinted polymers of phthalate esters were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization using methyl methacrylate as functional monomer, cyclohexanone as solvent, cuprous chloride as catalyst, 1-chlorine-1-ethyl benzene as initiator and 2,2-bipyridyl as cross-linker in the mixture of methanol and water (1:1, v/v). The effect of reaction conditions such as monomer ratio and template on the adsorption properties was investigated. The optimum condition was obtained by an orthogonal experiment. The obtained polymers were characterized using scanning electron microscopy. The binding property was studied with both static and dynamic methods. Results showed that the polymers exhibited excellent recognition capacity and outstanding selectivity for ten phthalate esters. Factors affecting the extraction efficiency of the molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction were systematically investigated. An analytical method based on the molecularly imprinted coupled with gas chromatography and flame ionization detection was successfully developed for the simultaneous determination of ten phthalate esters from edible oil. The method detection limits were 0.10-0.25 μg/mL, and the recoveries of spiked samples were 82.5-101.4% with relative standard deviations of 1.24-5.37% ( n = 6). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For the analysis of edible oils, saponification is well known as a useful method for eliminating oil matrices. The conventional approach is conducted with alcoholic alkali; it consumes a large volume of organic solvents and impedes the retrieval of analytes by microextraction. In this study, a low-organic-solvent-consuming method has been developed for the analysis of benzo[a]pyrene in edible oils by high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection. Sample treatment involves aqueous alkaline saponification, assisted by a phase-transfer catalyst, and selective in situ extraction of the analyte with a supramolecular solvent. Comparison of the chromatograms of the oil extracts obtained by different microextraction methods showed that the supramolecular solvent has a better clean-up effect for the unsaponifiable matter from oil matrices. The method offered excellent linearity over a range of 0.03- 5.0 ng mL−1 ( r > 0.999). Recovery rates varied from 94 to 102% (RSDs <5.0%). The detection limit and quantification limit were 0.06 and 0.19 μg kg−1, respectively. The proposed method was applied for the analysis of 52 edible oils collected online in China; the analyte contents of 23 tested oil samples exceeded the maximum limit of 2 μg kg−1 for benzo[a]pyrene set by the Commission Regulation of the European Union. Solid-phase extraction based on humic acid bonded silica followed by gas chromatography with electron capture detection was developed to determine fipronil and its metabolites in edible oil. To achieve the best extraction performance, we systematically investigated a series of solid-phase extraction parameters. Under the optimized conditions, the method was validated according to linearity, recovery, and precision. Good linearities were obtained with R2 more than 0.9996 for all analytes. The limits of detection were between 0.3 and 0.5 ng/g, and the recoveries ranged from 83.1 to 104.0% at three spiked concentrations with intra- and interday relative standard deviation values less than 8.7%. Finally, the proposed method was applied to determine fipronil and its metabolites in 11 edible oil samples taken from Wuhan markets. Fipronil was detectable in four samples with concentrations ranging from 3.0 to 5.2 ng/g. In China, the maximum residue limits of fipronil in some vegetables and maize are 20 and 100 ng/g (GB/T 2763-2014), respectively. The residues of fipronil and its metabolites in commercial edible oils might exhibit some potential threat to human health as a result of high consumption of edible oil as part of daily intake. The previously reported procedure for the determination of the total phthalate in fatty food involved the extraction of phthalates using chloroform/methanol followed by the removal of the solvents before alkaline hydrolysis requiring 20 h and derivatization of phthalic acid. In this study, a phase-transfer catalyst (tetrabutylammonium chloride) was used in the liquid-liquid heterogeneous hydrolysis of phthalates in oil matrix shortening the reaction time to within 25 min. The resulting phthalic acid in the hydrolysate was extracted by a novel molecular complex based dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction method coupled with back-extraction before high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with photodiode array detection. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the linearity of the method was in the range of 0.5-12 nmol/g with the correlation coefficients ( r) >0.997. The detection limit (S/N = 3) was 0.11 nmol/g. Intraday and interday repeatability values expressed as relative standard deviation were 3.9 and 7.1%, respectively. The recovery rates ranged from 82.4 to 99.0%. In the present study, a rapid, simple, and highly efficient sample preparation method based on air-assisted liquid–liquid microextraction followed by gas chromatography with flame ionization detection was developed for the extraction, preconcentration, and determination of five triazole pesticides (penconazole, hexaconazole, diniconazole, tebuconazole, and triticonazole) in edible oils. Initially, the oil samples were diluted with hexane and a few microliter of a less soluble organic solvent (extraction solvent) in hexane was added. To form fine and dispersed extraction solvent droplets, the mixture of oil sample solution and extraction solvent is repeatedly aspirated and dispersed with a syringe. Under the optimum extraction conditions, the method showed low limits of detection and quantification between 2.2–6.1 and 7.3–20 µg/L, respectively. Enrichment factors and extraction recoveries were in the ranges of 71–96 and 71–96%, respectively. The relative standard deviations for the extraction of 100 and 250 µg/L of each pesticide were less than 5% for intraday (n = 6) and interday (n = 3) precisions. The effect of background derivatization on the signal enhancement of pesticide residues extracted from edible oil samples was studied by GC with negative chemical ionization MS. The analytes were extracted by a solvent extraction process, and the extract was subjected to rapid low-temperature fat precipitation. The residual fatty acids were silylated by derivatization with N, O-bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide. The chromatograms obtained from the derivatized samples showed higher signal intensity and lower detection levels when compared to the direct analysis without derivatization. The sensitivity levels of the method are either better or comparable to that of previously reported methodologies. The LODs of the analyzed organochlorine, organophosphorus, and synthetic pyrethroid residues in sunflower, rice bran, and ground oil samples were in the range of 0.02-0.5 ng/g, and the LOQs were in the range of 0.1-2 ng/g. The intraday and interday accuracies were in the range of 81-116% with RSDs less than 14%. In this paper, ultrasonic-assisted extraction of 3-chloropropane-1,2-diol and its esters from edible oils was studied with isotope dilution GC-MS. Effects of several experimental parameters, such as types and concentrations of extracting solvent, ratios of liquid to material, extraction temperature, time of ultrasonic treatment on the extraction efficiency of 3-chloropropane-1,2-diol and its esters from edible oils and sample preparation for calibration were compared and optimized. The optimal extraction conditions were suggested as 66 mg oil sample in mixture of 0.5 mL MTBE/ethyl acetate (20% v/v) and 0.5 mL of sulfuric acid/ n-propanol (0.3% v/v), being extracted for 30 min at 45°C under ultrasonic irradiation. Good linearity was gained in the range of 0.020-5.000 μg/g with the limit of detection (LOD) of 0.006 μg/g ( S/N = 3) and the limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.020 μg/g ( S/N = 10). The recoveries at five spiked concentrations were ranged from 91.9 to 109.3% with RSD less than 9.4%. The method was successfully applied to the determination of 3-chloropropane-1,2-diol and its esters amounts in rapeseed, sesame, peanut, camellia, and soybean oils. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
