This article critically appraises the book "The Biglow Papers," by James Russell Lowell. It is in his character of a satirical and humorous poet that one now has to do with him, for a second series of the fatuous "Biglow Papers" is just put forth. Certainly no one will gainsay us when we say that in this particular walk no one can be for a moment compared to Lowell. Everybody knows that the poems were a complete success from. the ginning, and at once gave the author the highest place among living critical and humorous writers.
