Abstract
The article discusses the poem "Don Juan," by the English Romantic poet Lord George Gordon Byron. Contemporary and modern critical reactions to the poem are examined, and conflicts between naturalism, Christianity, heroics and liberalism in the poem are examined along with its use of paradox and ambiguity.

Abstract
The article analyzes the critiques the poem "Don Juan" by Lord Byron, George Gordon Byron. It focuses on the comic aspects of the poem, as the author notes that Byron himself admitted to writing the poem as a form of comedic entertainment. Particular attention is given to a play on words that Byron uses in Canto I of the poem in which the character Don Juan's mother, Donna Inez, discusses Hebrew and English languages.
