The radio determination service system (RDSS), a navigation and positioning system independently developed by China, features services such as short-message communication, position reporting, and international search and rescue. The L-band pseudo-range and phase data are the primary data sources in precise orbit determination (POD) for geostationary Earth orbit (GEO) satellite in the BeiDou system, especially in the orbit manoeuvre period. These data are the only data sources in the POD for GEOs. However, when the pseudo-range and phase data is abnormal due to unforeseen reasons, such as satellite hardware failure or monitoring receiver abnormalities, the data abnormality leads to orbit determination abnormalities or even failures for GEOs, then the service performance and availability of the RDSS system are greatly degraded. Therefore, a new POD method for GEOs based on BeiDou short-message communication ranging data has gained research attention to improve the service reliability of the BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS)-3, realising the deep integration of communication and navigation services of the BDS. This problem has not been addressed so far. Therefore, in this study, a new POD method for GEO satellites is investigated using high-precision satellite laser ranging (SLR) data and RDSS data. The SLR data are used as the benchmark to calibrate the time delay value of RDSS equipment, and RDSS data are only used in the orbit determination process by fixing the corrected RDSS time delay value, and the satellite orbit parameters and dynamic parameters are solved. Experimental analysis is conducted using the measured SLR and RDSS data of the BDS, and the orbit accuracy in this paper is evaluated by the precise ephemeris of the Multi-GNSS pilot project (MGEX) and SLR data. The results show that the orbit accuracy in the orbital arc and the 2-h orbital prediction arc for GEOs are 6.01 m and 6.99 m, respectively, compared with the ephemeris of MGEX, and the short-arc orbit accuracy after 4 h of manoeuvring is 11.11 m. The orbit accuracy in the radial component by SLR data is 0.54 m. The required orbit accuracy for GEO satellites in the RDSS service of the BDS-3 is 15 m. The orbit accuracy achieved in this paper is superior to that of this technical index. This method expands the application field of the RDSS data and greatly enriches the POD method for GEOs. In 2020, the BeiDou-3 global navigation satellite system (BDS-3) was officially completed and put into service. Currently, network real-time kinematic (RTK) technology is considered the main means through which to improve the positioning accuracy of the BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS). This paper proposes a long-range undifferenced network RTK (URTK) algorithm, based on multi-frequency observation data of the BDS. First, the multi-frequency phase integer ambiguity resolution (AR) model considering atmospheric error parameters is designed, and the multi-frequency phase integer ambiguity of the long-range BDS reference station is determined. Then, the undifferenced integer ambiguity of each reference station is obtained, using linear variation based on the accurately determined phase integer ambiguity between reference stations, and the undifferenced observation error of each reference station is calculated. Considering the weakening spatial correlation of the observation errors between long-range stations, undifferenced classification error corrections of a reference station network are separated, according to different error characteristics. Finally, the inverse distance weighting method is employed to calculate the classification undifferenced error correction of the rover station. The rover station corrects the observation error through applying the undifferenced error correction to achieve high-precision positioning. The measured data of a long-range continuous operation reference station (CORS) network are selected for an experiment. The results show that the proposed algorithm can quickly and accurately realize the resolution of the BDS integer ambiguity of a reference station network and establish an undifferenced area error correction model in order to achieve accurate classification of undifferenced error correction values for a rover station. In China, the BDS-3 is superior to the global positioning system (GPS) in terms of the satellite number, position dilution of precision (PDOP) value, AR success rate, stability, and convergence time. The results show that the AR success rate, stability, and convergence time increase with the operational frequency, and the BDS-3 can achieve centimeter-level positioning of single-system rover stations without relying on the GPS. As an essential infrastructure that provides positioning, navigation, and timing services, China constructed the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS). The last BDS satellite was launched in June 2020, which represents the completion of BDS. BDS's constellation consists of Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), Inclined Geosynchronous Orbit (IGSO), and Geostationary Orbit satellites. The precise modeling of non-conservative forces for BDS satellites is a challenging task. As an independent observation, Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) is an important validation method of GNSS orbit modeling. In this paper, we validated the precise orbit products of different Analysis Centers (ACs) by using SLR observations, focusing on the BDS orbit modeling. By comparing BDS precise orbit products generated by four ACs with respect to SLR observations for the period of February 2017 to March 2021, we proved that an obvious satellite signature effect exists in the SLR residuals of BDS observed by multi-photon stations. The result indicates that multi-photon stations have a root mean square (RMS) of SLR residuals about 5 mm lower than that of single-photon detectors. The slope of SLR residuals with regard to nadir angle of IGSO satellites for single-photon and multi-photon stations is −2.0 and −2.5 mm/deg, respectively, while the slope of MEO satellites for these stations is about −0.6 to −0.3 and −1.0 to −0.4 mm/deg, respectively. To assess the effect of non-conservative force modeling, we selected seven high-performing stations, including five single-photon and two multi-photon stations. By comparing the SLR residuals of four ACs' orbits, we analyzed the effect of the solutions of orbit processing, especially solar radiation pressure (SRP) models. We found that some centers may have modeling defects, including BDS-3 orbits of the Deutsches GeoForschungsZentrum and BDS-2 orbits of the European Space Agency, inferred from the large RMS of SLR residuals. Modeling the SRP of BDS satellites is challenging, while an appropriate prior box-wing model can improve the accuracy of SRP modeling and provide a more stable performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is widely used in all walks of life, the signal structure of satellite navigation is open, and the vulnerability to spoofing attacks is also becoming increasingly prominent, which will seriously affect the credibility of navigation, positioning, and timing (PNT) services. Satellite navigation signal authentication technology is an emerging technical means of improving civil signal anti-spoofing on the satellite navigation system side, and it is also an important development direction and research focus of the GNSS. China plans to carry out the design and development of the next-generation Beidou navigation satellite system (BDS), and one of its core goals is to provide more secure and credible PNT services. This paper first expounds on the principles and technical architecture of satellite navigation signal authentication, then clarifies the development history of satellite navigation signal authentication, and finally proposes the BDS authentication service system architecture. Precise Point Positioning (PPP) is an official service of the BeiDou Global Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) through the PPP-B2b signal. In this paper, we mainly focus on the long-term performance evaluation of BDS-3 PPP-B2b products and their application in time service. Since the PPP-B2b product is only available in and around China area, the arcs of PPP-B2b products are about several hours. We propose to evaluate the time datum stability by using all available satellites. Then, 557 day PPP-B2b products are collected for this experiment. The results show that there are large jumps in the GPS satellite clock time datum series. However, the BDS-3 satellite clock datum stability is almost at the same level with current Space State Representation (SSR) corrections from the International Global navigation satellite system Service (IGS). The difference between PPP-B2b GPS and BDS-3 satellite clock time datum will be absorbed into the Inter System Bias (ISB) parameter. Thus, it should be specially noted that the ISB parameter cannot be estimated as constant values if users use PPP-B2b products. In addition, the accuracy of the BDS-3 satellite clock is significantly better than that of the GPS for both the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and standard deviation (STD). The average Signal in Space Range Errors (SISREs) is 0.22 ns and 0.13 ns for GPS and BDS-3, respectively. The one-way timing experiment shows BDS-3 timing stability is 2.9 × 10−14@104 s. In addition, 10 baselines from 13 km to 4494 km are formed for time synchronization evaluation by using PPP-B2b products. The average RMSEs of time synchronization is from 0.46 ns to 1.58 ns and from 0.66 ns to 1.19 ns for GPS and BDS-3, respectively. As for STD, the average values are from 0.27 ns to 0.74 ns and from 0.27 ns to 0.47 ns for GPS and BDS-3, respectively. The third generation of China's BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) began to provide global service at the end of 2018, and the completion of BDS was announced in July 2020, which includes GEO (Geostationary Earth Orbit), IGSO (Inclined Geosynchronous orbit), and MEO (Medium Earth Orbit) satellites. The resulting BDS orbits vary due to the inconsistent alignment strategies used by different analysis centers. Therefore, it is necessary to study the method of determining the BDS-3 orbit products combined from different analysis centers. In this research, the accuracy of the combined orbits for BDS-3 and other GNSS systems is evaluated and analyzed. To verify the reliability of the orbit combination method proposed in this paper, the GPS orbit is first selected for verification. Compared to the analysis centers, the mean Signal in Space User Ranging Error (SISURE) for GPS combined orbits is significantly reduced, and the mean SISURE of combined orbits for Block IIF, Block IIR, and Block III is 4.15 mm, 5.43 mm, and 5.63 mm, respectively. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the orbit combination method in this research. Besides, the accuracy of the combined orbits is improved by the ERP correction, and the mean RMS of the without Earth rotation Parameters (ERP) correction orbits and with ERP correction orbits is 4.78 mm and 4.53 mm, respectively. This demonstrates that orbit consistency corrections should be considered when performing orbit combinations. Compared to the GFZ orbits, the accuracy of the combined orbits has improved for GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, and BDS is 8.2%, 9.9%, 9.9%, and 5.5%, respectively. It shows that the orbit combination method improves the orbital accuracy compared to the individual analysis center orbits. The mean RMS of the combined orbits for GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS MEO, and BDS IGSO is 1.7 cm, 2.61 cm, 2.52 cm, 2.59 cm, and 4.90 cm, respectively. The results demonstrate that the accuracy of the combined orbit for the BDS-3 MEO satellite is already similar to other systems; an orbit combination also available for the BDS-3 satellite. Precise point positioning can provide accurate coordinates to users without reference stations, and the high-precision real-time clock offset product is necessary for real-time precise point positioning application. As an integral part of the third generation BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, Precision Point Positioning Service provides dual systems (BDS-3 and GPS) real-time PPP services with centimeter- and decimeter-level accuracy for static and kinematic positioning users around China, respectively. However, there exist inconsistent biases in the clock offset of Precision Point Positioning Service, which will negatively affect the positioning and timing performance of the service. By comparing with the post-processing clock offset, this paper verifies that the broadcast clock offset has smaller and more stable biases in the long term and proposes a regional clock offset estimation strategy using broadcast clock offset for a priori constraint. The results show that the new algorithm can effectively reduce the bias in PPP-B2b clock offset. The new clock offset product could improve convergence speed by 25% and 10% in the horizontal and vertical directions. For positioning accuracy, the improvement is 22% and 17%. The BeiDou Global Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) provides real-time precise point positioning (PPP) service via B2b signals, offering real-time decimeter-level positioning for users in China and surrounding areas. However, common interruptions and outliers in PPP-B2b services arise due to factors such as the Geostationary Orbit (GEO) satellite "south wall effect", Issue of Data (IOD) matching errors, and PPP-B2b signal broadcast priorities, posing challenges to continuous high-precision positioning. This study meticulously examines the completeness, continuity, and jumps in PPP-B2b orbit and clock correction using extensive observational data. Based on this analysis, a two-step method for detecting outliers in PPP-B2b orbit and clock corrections is devised, leveraging epoch differences and median absolute deviation. Subsequently, distinct prediction methods are developed for BDS-3 and GPS orbit and clock corrections. Results from simulated and real-time dynamic positioning experiments indicate that predicted corrections can maintain the same accuracy as normal correction values for up to 10 min and sustain decimeter-level positioning accuracy within 30 min. Positioning of spacecraft (e.g., geostationary orbit (GEO), high elliptical orbit (HEO), and lunar trajectory) is crucial for mission completion. Instead of using ground control systems, global navigation satellite system (GNSS) can be an effective approach to provide positioning, navigation and timing service for spacecraft. In 2020, China finished the construction of the third generation of BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS-3); this global coverage system will contribute better sidelobe signal visibility for spacecraft. Meanwhile, with more than 100 GNSS satellites, multi-GNSS navigation performance on the spacecraft is worth studying. In this paper, instead of using signal-in-space ranging errors, we simulate pseudorange observations with measurement noises varying with received signal powers. Navigation performances of BDS-3 and its combinations with other systems were conducted. Results showed that, owing to GEO and inclined geosynchronous orbit (IGSO) satellites, all three types (GEO, HEO, and lunar trajectory) of spacecraft received more signals from BDS-3 than from other navigation systems. Single point positioning (SPP) accuracy of the GEO and HEO spacecraft was 17.7 and 23.1 m, respectively, with BDS-3 data alone. Including the other three systems, i.e., GPS, Galileo, and GLONASS, improved the SPP accuracy by 36.2% and 19.9% for GEO and HEO, respectively. Navigation performance of the lunar probe was significantly improved when receiver sensitivity increased from 20 dB-Hz to 15 dB-Hz. Only dual- (BDS-3/GPS) or multi-GNSS (BDS-3, GPS, Galileo, GLONASS) could provide continuous navigation solutions with a receiver threshold of 15 dB-Hz. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As the first hybrid-constellation global navigation system, China's BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS) has been fully constructed since July 2020 and provides open services for worldwide users. Due to the natural sensitivity of satellite tracking techniques to geocenter motion, BDS has the capability to determine the geocenter coordinates (GCC). This study aims to improve the precision of geocenter coordinates derived from BDS. To that end, 3-year sets of daily geocenter coordinates have been determined with BDS observations. Different solar radiation pressure (SRP) models, including the empirical CODE orbit model (ECOM), the extended ECOM model (ECOM2), and the a priori box-wing along with the ECOM model (BW + ECOM), have been applied for the BDS geocenter estimation. We show that the BW + ECOM model is beneficial in recovering the geocenter motion. Compared to the ECOM, the BW + ECOM model appears to mitigate the draconitic signal of BDS, which reduces the annual amplitude of the GCC-Z by a factor of 2.9. On the other hand, the amplitude of the 3 cpy signal is also reduced by a factor of 2.9. Furthermore, we studied the impact of BDS constellation configuration on the geocenter estimation. The results indicate that the inclusion of IGSO satellites significantly mitigates the spurious signals in the spectra of the GCC-Z. The amplitudes of the annual signal and 3 cpy signal are reduced by (28%, 14%), (33%, 61%), and (31%, 9%) for ECOM, ECOM2, and BW + ECOM cases, respectively. Meanwhile, the amplitude of the 7-day signal related to the orbital period of MEO satellites is also reduced by 32–45%. Thus, the BW + ECOM model and the MEO+IGSO hybrid configuration are recommended for BDS to determine the geocenter coordinates. However, despite these improvements, a significant annual signal with an amplitude of 20.2 mm and a visible 3 cpy signal with an amplitude of 6.1 mm still exist when compared to the Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) solution. Ionospheric total electron content (TEC) is important data for ionospheric morphology, and also an important parameter for ionospheric correction in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) precise positioning, navigation, and radio science. In this study, we present a data assimilation model for regional ionosphere based on a local ensemble Kalman filter (LEnKF) with the International Reference Ionosphere 2016 (IRI-2016) model as the background, to assimilate ionospheric TEC observations from GNSS. To demonstrate the results, the TEC estimates from the Crustal Movement Observation Network of China (CMONOC), which is about 260 stations in China, are applied as observation. The assessments are performed against the TEC estimates from BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) geostationary earth orbit (GEO) and against the final products from the Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (CODE). The assimilation results are in good agreement with BDS GEO TEC and the CODE TEC on a quiet or disturbed day. The correlation coefficient after assimilation is increased by about 17% compared with that before assimilation, and the RMSE after assimilation is decreased by about 42% compared with that before assimilation. Furthermore, the assimilated method is also evaluated in the single-frequency precise point positioning (PPP). The experimental results indicate that the PPP/Assimilated method can improve the GNSS positioning accuracy more effectively in comparison to the PPP/CODE. High-precision orbits of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites are essential for many scientific applications, such as assessing the change in current global mean sea level, estimating the coefficients of gravity field, and so on. How to determinate the high-precision orbits for LEO satellites has gradually become an important research focus. HY2D is a new altimetry satellite of China, which is equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) and the third generations of the BeiDou Global Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) in order to guarantee the reliability of orbital precision in radar altimetry mission. Therefore, this study adopts one month of spaceborne data to conduct the research of precise orbit determination (POD) for the HY2D satellite. Our analysis results are: (1) The standard deviation of residuals for the HY2D satellite based on spaceborne BDS and GPS data are 9.12 mm and 8.53 mm, respectively, and there are no significant systematic errors in these residuals. (2) The comparison results with Doppler Orbitography and Radio-positioning Integrated by Satellite (DORIS)-derived orbits indicate that the HY2D satellite, using spaceborne BDS and GPS data, can achieve the radial accuracy of 1.4~1.5 cm, and the mean three-dimensional (3D) accuracy are 5.3 cm and 4.3 cm, respectively, which can satisfy high-precision altimetry applications. (3) By means of satellite laser ranging (SLR), the accuracy of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-derived orbits of HY2D is approximately 3.3 cm, which reflects that the model strategies are reliable. The characteristics and performance of satellite clocks are important to the positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) users. Although China's BeiDou-3 Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) has been fully operational for more than one year, there is still a lack of comprehensive research on the onboard clocks of the entire BDS-3 constellation. In this study, the precise clock products of GeoForschungsZentrum (GFZ) from day-of-year (DOY) 1, 2021 to DOY 300, 2021 were used to analyze the characteristics and performance of BDS-3 onboard clocks from the following aspects: clock bias, frequency, drift rate, fitting residuals, periodicity, and frequency stability. Compared with BDS-2, the clock quality of BDS-3 satellites has been greatly improved, but there are still jumps in the clock offsets and frequency series of BDS-3 clocks. The drift rate of BDS-3 clocks varies within the range between − 2 × 10 − 18   and   2 × 10 − 18   s / s 2 . The daily model fitting residuals of passive hydrogen masers (PHM) on BDS-3 medium Earth orbit (MEO), inclined geosynchronous orbit (IGSO), and geostationary (GEO) satellites are 0.15, 0.28, and 0.46 ns, respectively. The overlapping Allan deviation (OADEV) of BDS-3 MEO clocks is 4 . 0   ×   10 − 14   s / s at a time interval of 1000 s. The PHMs on BDS-3 MEO satellites exhibit fewer periodic signals than those of Rb clocks. In addition, the precise clock offsets of the BDS-3 PHMs carried on the MEO, IGSO, and GEO satellites show different periodicities, which are similar to those of the corresponding types of BDS-2 satellites. Geomagnetic storms are one of the space weather events. The radio signals transmitted by modern navigation systems suffer from the effects of magnetic storms, which can degrade the performance of the whole system. In this study, the performance of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) B1 frequency standard point positioning (SPP) in China and the surrounding area during different classes of storm was investigated for the first time. The statistical analysis of the results revealed that the accuracy of the BDS-2 B1 frequency SPP deteriorated during the storms. The probability of the extrema of the positioning error statistics was largest during strong storms, followed by moderate and weak storms. The positioning accuracy for storms of a similar class was found not to be at the same level. The root mean square error in positioning for the different classes of storm could be at least tens of centimeters in the east, north and up directions. The findings in this study could contribute toward the error constraint of BDS positioning accuracy during different classes of geomagnetic storm and be beneficial to other systems, such as BDS-3, as well. BeiDou Global Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) provides a regional Precise Point Positioning (PPP) service, called PPP-B2b, for users in China and surrounding areas through B2b signal transmitted from its three geostationary earth orbit (GEO) satellites. The information broadcasted by the B2b signal include satellite orbit corrections, satellite clock offset corrections, and differential code bias (DCB) corrections of BDS-3 satellites. In this study, the accuracies of PPP-B2b corrections along with real-time PPP performance are comprehensively evaluated referenced to precise orbit and clock products from GFZ and the precise DCB products from CAS. The result indicates that the accuracy of the BDS-3 broadcast orbit is similar to that of the PPP-B2b real-time orbit. The PPP-B2b clock offset correction improved the satellite clock offset precision of the BDS-3 broadcast ephemeris. The Signal-in-Space Range Error (SISRE) of broadcast ephemeris and PPP-B2b are calculated, which are 0.536 and 1.24 m, respectively. The large SISRE value of PPP-B2b is caused by the satellite-specified systematic bias to IGS final products. The positioning performance evaluation of real-time PPP with B2b service is carried out and compared with the real-time product provided by Wuhan University (WHU) based on the eight IGS MGEX stations in China and surrounding countries. The positioning accuracy of static positioning mode with PPP-B2b service achieved centimeter-level accuracy in the selected station, and that of kinematic positioning mode achieved decimeter-level accuracy. The availability rate of PPP-B2b corrections in the surrounding area of China, however, degrades from 88.76% to 60.91% in the selected stations. The accuracy of the PPP solution using PPP-B2b correction is better than that of using WHU real-time product within China. The positioning performance of stations located at the boundary of the PPP-B2b service area, however, is affected by the number of PPP-B2b available satellites. China is promoting the construction of an integrated positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) systems with the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) as its core. To expand the positioning coverage area and improve the positioning performance by taking advantage of device-to-device (D2D) and self-organizing network (SON) technology, a BDS/SON integrated positioning system is proposed for the fifth-generation (5G) networking environment. This system relies on a combination of time-of-arrival (TOA) and BeiDou pseudo-range measurements to effectively supplement BeiDou signal blind spots, expand the positioning coverage area, and realize higher precision in continuous navigation and positioning. By establishing the system state model, and addressing the single-system positioning divergence and insufficient accuracy, a robust adaptive fading filtering (RAF) algorithm based on the prediction residual is proposed to suppress gross errors and filtering divergence in order to improve the stability and accuracy of the positioning results. Subsequently, a federated Kalman filtering (FKF) algorithm operating in fusion-feedback mode is developed to centrally process the positioning information of the combined system. Considering that the prediction error can reflect the magnitude of the model error, an adaptive information distribution coefficient is introduced to further improve the filtering performance. Actual measurement and significance test results show that by integrating BDS and SON positioning data, the proposed algorithm realizes robust, reliable, and continuous high precision location services with anti-interference capabilities and good universality. It is applicable in scenarios involving unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), autonomous driving, military, public safety and other contexts and can even realize indoor positioning and other regional positioning tasks. Soil moisture is an important geophysical parameter for studying terrestrial water and energy cycles. It has been proven that Global Navigation Satellite System Interferometry Reflectometry (GNSS-IR) can be applied to monitor soil moisture. Unlike the Global Positioning System (GPS) that has only medium earth orbit (MEO) satellites, the Beidou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) also has geosynchronous earth orbit (GEO) satellites and inclined geosynchronous satellite orbit (IGSO) satellites. Benefiting from the distribution of three different orbits, the BDS has better coverage in Asia than other satellite systems. Previous retrieval methods that have been confirmed on GPS cannot be directly applied to BDS MEO satellites due to different satellite orbits. The contribution of this study is a proposed multi-satellite soil moisture retrieval method for BDS MEO and IGSO satellites based on signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) observations. The method weakened the influence of environmental differences in different directions by considering satellite repeat period. A 30-day observation experiment was conducted in Fengqiu County, China and was used for verification. The satellite data collected were divided according to the satellite repeat period, and ensured the response data moved in the same direction. The experimental results showed that the BDS IGSO and MEO soil moisture estimation results had good correlations with the in situ soil moisture fluctuations. The BDS MEO B1I estimation results had the best performance; the estimation accuracy in terms of correlation coefficient was 0.9824, root mean square error (RMSE) was 0.0056 cm3cm−3, and mean absolute error (MAE) was 0.0040 cm3cm−3. The estimations of the BDS MEO B1I, MEO B2I, and IGSO B2I performed better than the GPS L1 and L2 estimations. For the BDS IGSO satellites, the B1I signal was more suitable for soil moisture retrieval than the B2I signal; the correlation coefficient was increased by 19.84%, RMSE was decreased by 42.64%, and MAE was decreased by 43.93%.
