Abstract Osteoblasts and osteoclasts play an important role in maintaining the structural integrity of bone tissue, in which osteoclasts degrade bone structure and osteoblasts restore bone tissue. The imbalance of osteoblast and osteoclast function can lead to many bone-related diseases, such as osteoporosis and inflammatory osteolysis. The drug that can both promote bone formation and inhibit bone loss will be able to treat those diseases. In this study, it was found that LMK-235, an selective HDAC4/5 inhibitor, inhibited the differentiation and maturation of osteoclasts by regulating NF-κB and p-Smad2/3 signaling pathways via inhibition of HDAC4. At the same time, we found that LMK-235 promoted osteoblast mineralization by upregulating Runx2 expression via inhibition of HDAC4. In vivo, LMK-235 was able to alleviate lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced calvarial osteolysis and promote the repair of bone defects. Taken together, LMK-235 suppresses osteoclast differentiation and promotes osteoblast formation by inhibiting HDAC4. This may provide a valuable treatment for bone diseases caused by abnormal osteoclast bone resorption and osteoblast bone regeneration.

Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT) is an extensive system of interrelated devices equipped with sensors to monitor and track real world objects, spanning several verticals, covering many different industries. The IoT's promise is capturing interest as its value in healthcare continues to grow, as it can overlay on top of challenges dealing with the rising burden of chronic disease management and an aging population. To address difficulties associated with IoT-enabled healthcare, we propose a secure routing protocol that combines a fuzzy logic system and the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) hierarchically. The suggested method consists of two primary approaches: the fuzzy trust strategy and the WOA-inspired clustering methodology. The first methodology plays a critical role in determining the trustworthiness of connected IoT equipment. Furthermore, a WOA-based clustering framework is implemented. A fitness function assesses the likelihood of IoT devices acting as cluster heads. This formula considers factors such as centrality, range of communication, hop count, remaining energy, and trustworthiness. Compared with other algorithms, the proposed method outperformed them in terms of network lifespan, energy usage, and packet delivery ratio by 47%, 58%, and 17.7%, respectively.

Abstract Currently, a comprehensive assessment of the relationship between ideal cardiovascular health (CVH) indicators and cataract risk is lacking. Life’s Essential 8 (LE8) is the latest concept proposed by the American Heart Association to comprehensively reflect CVH status. LE8 includes four health behaviors (diet, physical activity, smoking, and sleep) and four health factors (blood lipid, blood sugar, blood pressure, and body mass index). This study tried to evaluate the association between LE8 and cataract using data from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005–2008, a continuous research program which aims to monitor and evaluate the health and nutrition status of the US population. A cross-sectional study of 2720 non-cataract participants and 602 cataract participants. All participants were assigned to the poor, intermediate, and ideal CVH status groups based on LE8 score. Weighted multiple logistic regression was used to investigate the correlation between the LE8 score and cataract, as well as the correlation between each of the eight subitems and cataract, with potential confounding variables being adjusted. Then, restricted cubic spline analysis was used to further explore whether there was a nonlinear relationship between LE8 score and cataract. Abstract Chemotherapy resistance poses clinical challenges in pancreatic cancer treatment. Developing cell lines resistant to chemotherapy is crucial for investigating drug resistance mechanisms and identifying alternative treatment pathways. The genetic and biological attributes of pancreatic cancer depend on its aetiology, racial demographics and anatomical origin, underscoring the need for models that comprehensively represent these characteristics. Here, we introduce PDAC-X2, a pancreatic cancer cell line derived from Chinese patients. We conducted a comprehensive analysis encompassing the immune phenotype, biology, genetics, molecular characteristics and tumorigenicity of the cell line. PDAC-X2 cells displayed epithelial morphology and expressed cell markers (CK7 and CK19) alongside other markers (E-cadherin, Vimentin, Ki-67, CEA and CA19-9). The population doubling time averaged around 69 h. In vivo, PDAC-X2 cells consistently maintained their tumorigenicity, achieving a 100% tumour formation rate. Characterised by a predominantly tetraploid karyotype, this cell line exhibited a complex genetic markup. Notably, PDAC-X2 cells demonstrated resistance to multiple drugs, including gemcitabine, paclitaxel, 5-fluorouracil and oxaliplatin. In conclusion, PDAC-X2 presents an invaluable preclinical model. Its utility lies in facilitating the study of drug resistance mechanisms and the exploration of alternative therapeutic approaches aimed at enhancing the prognosis of this tumour type.

Abstract In the evolving landscape of smart libraries, this research pioneers an IoT-based low-cost architecture utilizing Software-Defined Networking (SDN). The increasing demand for more efficient and economical solutions in library management, particularly in the realm of RFID-based processes such as authentication, property circulation, and book loans, underscores the significance of this study. Leveraging the collaborative potential of IoT and SDN technologies, our proposed system introduces a fresh perspective to tackle these challenges and advance intelligent library management. In response to the evolving landscape of smart libraries, our research presents an Internet of Things (IoT)-based low-cost architecture utilizing SDN. The exploration of this architectural paradigm arises from a recognized gap in the existing literature, pointing towards the necessity for more efficient and cost-effective solutions in managing library processes. Our proposed algorithm integrates IoT and SDN technologies to intelligently oversee various library activities, specifically targeting RFID-based processes such as authentication, property circulation management, and book loan management. The system's architecture, encompasses components like the data center, SDN controllers, RFID tags, tag readers, and other network sensors. By leveraging the synergy between RFID and SDN, our innovative approach reduces the need for constant operator supervision in libraries. The scalability and software-oriented nature of the architecture cater to extensive library environments. Our study includes a two-phase investigation, combining practical implementation in a small-scale library with a simulation environment using MATLAB 2021. This research not only fills a crucial gap in current knowledge but also lays the foundation for future advancements in the integration of IoT and SDN technologies for intelligent library management.

Abstract Carbazole compounds are widely used in determining the direction of petroleum migration, but the effect of thermal maturity on carbazoles is still ambiguity. In this paper, using compaction pyrolysis simulation experiments, artificial mature samples with vitrinite reflectance (R o ) range from 0.38 to 3.0% were acquired. And the content and composition change characteristics of carbazole compounds were analyzed in coal source rocks. The experimental results showed that thermal maturity controls the generation of a large amount of carbazole compounds in coal rocks. Compared with the low mature stage, the content of carbazole compounds was about 10–100 times higher in the mature stage. With the increasing maturity, in the coal sample, the content of carbazole compounds showed a trend of first increasing and then decreasing. In derivatives of carbazole, the corresponding maturity for the maximum generation of ethylcarbazole (EC), dimethylcarbazole (DMCA), methylcarbazole (MCA), carbazole (CA) and benzocarbazole (BCA) performed the increasing sequence. With the increasing maturity, the relative abundance of 2-MCA, 1,7-DMCA and benzo[a]carbazole increased with the increasing maturity, while 4-MCA, 1,4-DMCA and benzo[c]carbazole gradually decreased. Benzocarbazole ratio [a]/[a] +[ c] varies only in a narrow range 0.36–0.61 in the entire maturity range, suggesting limited maturity dependence. The experimental conclusion provides more theoretical basis for future geochemical analysis using carbazole compounds.

Abstract Doxorubicin has been used extensively as a potent anticancer agent, but its clinical use is limited by its cardiotoxicity. However, the underlying mechanisms remain to be fully elucidated. In this study, we tested whether NADPH oxidase 2 (Nox2) mediates cardiac sympathetic nerve terminal abnormalities and myocyte autophagy, resulting in cardiac atrophy and dysfunction in doxorubicin-induced heart failure. Nox2 knockout (KO) and wild-type (WT) mice were randomly assigned to receive a single injection of doxorubicin (15 mg/kg, i.p.) or saline. WT doxorubicin mice exhibited the decreases in survival rate, left ventricular (LV) wall thickness and LV fractional shortening and the increase in the lung wet-to-dry weight ratio 1 week after the injections. These alterations were attenuated in Nox2 KO doxorubicin mice. In WT doxorubicin mice, myocardial oxidative stress was increased, myocardial noradrenergic nerve fibers were reduced, myocardial expression of PGP9.5, GAP43, tyrosine hydroxylase and norepinephrine transporter was decreased, and these changes were prevented in Nox2 KO doxorubicin mice. Myocyte autophagy was increased and myocyte size was decreased in WT doxorubicin mice, but not in Nox2 KO doxorubicin mice. Nox2 mediates cardiac sympathetic nerve terminal abnormalities and myocyte autophagy—both of which contribute to cardiac atrophy and failure after doxorubicin treatment.

Abstract This study compared the diagnostic efficiency of benign and malignant breast nodules using ultrasonographic characteristics coupled with several machine-learning models, including logistic regression (Logistics), partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), linear support vector machine (Linear SVM), linear discriminant analysis (LDA), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), artificial neural network (ANN) and random forest (RF). The clinical information and ultrasonographic characteristics of 926 female patients undergoing breast nodule surgery were collected and their relationships were analyzed using Pearson's correlation. The stepwise regression method was used for variable selection and the Monte Carlo cross-validation method was used to randomly divide these nodule cases into training and prediction sets. Our results showed that six independent variables could be used for building models, including age, background echotexture, shape, calcification, resistance index, and axillary lymph node. In the prediction set, Linear SVM had the highest diagnosis rate of benign nodules (0.881), and Logistics, ANN and LDA had the highest diagnosis rate of malignant nodules (0.910~0.912). The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of Linear SVM was the highest (0.890), followed by ANN (0.883), LDA (0.880), Logistics (0.878), RF (0.874), PLS-DA (0.866), and KNN (0.855), all of which were better than that of individual variances. On the whole, the diagnostic efficacy of Linear SVM was better than other methods.

Abstract Various airway techniques have been used in endoscopic esophageal variceal ligation (EVL). In this respect, Jcerity endoscoper airway (JEA) is a novel laryngeal mask airway that is designed for use in gastrointestinal endoscopy. In the present study, 164 patients who underwent EVL were randomly divided into JEA group or endotracheal tube (ETT) group (ratio: 1:1). Success rate of endoscopic procedure, endoscope insertion time, procedure duration, recovery time, airway technique extubation time, anesthesia costs, hospital stay duration, complications, and hemodynamic parameters were recorded. The success rate of EVL in the JEA group was noninferior to that in the ETT group (98.8% vs. 100.0%). Abstract To explore and compare the clinical control of three atomized inhalation budesonide (BUD) regimens for Chinese preschool children with recurrent wheezing using Test for Respiratory and Asthma Control (TRACK) scores. A total of 474 preschool children with positive Modified Asthma Predictive Index (mAPI) were randomly assigned to a daily group (initially given inhaled BUD 1 mg once a day and assessed every 4 weeks; if symptom were well controlled for 12 weeks, the dose was reduced to 25–50% of the previous dose until afinal dose of 0.25 mg once a day, maintained until 52 weeks), an intermittent high-dose group (1 mg twice daily for 7 days starting early during a predefined respiratory tract illness) and an intermittent medium-dose group (0.5 mg twice daily as soon as they contacted allergens or experienced nasal congestion, a runny nose, cough or other suspicious respiratory symptoms and continuing until symptoms were reduced or risk factors were absent for 3 days) for 52 weeks of treatment. The TRACK questionnaire was administered every 4 weeks. When TRACK scores were ≥ 80, symptoms were considered to be controlled. The average TRACK scores of the three groups after treatment were significantly higher than those before treatment (P 0.05). Te number of systemic glucocorticoid courses, urgent care visits for wheezing, and wheezing episodes before and after treatment were significantly different within each of the three groups (P 0.05). In clinical treatment of children, one of the three treatment options can be selected according to the specific situation case of mAPI- positive recurrent wheezing children.

Abstract Underground gas storages (UGSs) are important large-scale industrial facilities used to bridge the gap between natural gas consumption and supply. The cyclic operation of the UGS may alter the subsurface stresses and local seismicity. We examined seismicity around the Hutubi UGS from 2011 to 2019 using the matched filter technique (MFT) and double-difference location methods. More than 1300 earthquakes were detected with seismicity around the UGS showing a remarkable increase since the start of its operation and showing a clear correlation to seasonal gas production. About 684 detected earthquakes were located, most of them occurred within 6 km of the reservoir. The events can be grouped into two clusters. Both clusters initiated around the gas pressure boundary. The first cluster extinct after the first injection period. While the second cluster diffused upward along a pre-existing fault. We speculate that strain localization caused by non-uniform gas injection contributes to the initiation of seismicity clusters around the UGS, and the trapped crude oil/gas played an important role in the migration of the second surge. The revealed seismicity pattern contributes to a better understanding of the mechanism of induced seismic events and emphasizes the importance of seismic monitoring in the UGS region.

Abstract In modern agricultural production, a variety of pesticides are widely used to protect crops against pests. However, extensive residues of these pesticides in the soil, water, and pollen have negatively affected the health of nontarget organisms, especially among pollinators such as bumblebees. As an important pollinator, the bumblebee plays a vital role in agricultural production and the maintenance of ecosystem diversity. Previous research has focused on the effects of a single pesticide on pollinating insects; however, the synergistic effects of multiple agents on bumblebees have been not studied in detail. Imidacloprid, thiamethoxam, and chlorpyrifos are three of common pesticides known for severe effects on bumblebee health. It is still unknown what synergistic effects of these pesticides on pollinators. In our test, the individual and combined toxicities of chlorpyrifos, thiamethoxam, and imidacloprid to bumblebees after 48 h of oral administration were documented by the equivalent linear equation method. Our results showed that the toxicity of each single pesticide exposure, from high to low, was imidacloprid, thiamethoxam, and chlorpyrifos. All binary and ternary combinations showed synergistic or additive effects. Therefore, our research not only shows that the mixed toxicity of insecticides has a significant effect on bumblebees, but also provides scientific guidelines for assessing the safety risks to bumblebees of these three insecticide compounds. In assessing the risk to pollinating insects, the toxicity levels of laboratory experiments are much lower than the actual toxicity in the field.

Abstract Limited research exists on carbohydrate intake and oral microbiome diversity and composition assessed with next-generation sequencing. We aimed to better understand the association between habitual carbohydrate intake and the oral microbiome, as the oral microbiome has been associated with caries, periodontal disease, and systemic diseases. We investigated if total carbohydrates, starch, monosaccharides, disaccharides, fiber, or glycemic load (GL) were associated with the diversity and composition of oral bacteria in subgingival plaque samples of 1204 post-menopausal women. Carbohydrate intake and GL were assessed from a food frequency questionnaire, and adjusted for energy intake. The V3–V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene from subgingival plaque samples were sequenced to identify the relative abundance of microbiome compositional data expressed as operational taxonomic units (OTUs). The abundance of OTUs were centered log(2)-ratio transformed to account for the compositional data structure. Associations between carbohydrate/GL intake and microbiome alpha-diversity measures were examined using linear regression. PERMANOVA analyses were conducted to examine microbiome beta-diversity measures across quartiles of carbohydrate/GL intake. Associations between intake of carbohydrates and GL and the abundance of the 245 identified OTUs were examined by using linear regression. Abstract To investigate the effect of P2 receptor on microglia and its inhibitor PPADS on choroidal neovascularization. Forty CX3CR1GFP/+ mice were randomly divided into 8 groups. In addition to the normal group, the rest of groups were receiving laser treatment. The retina and choroid from the second, third, fourth and fifth group of mice were taken in the 1, 4, 7, 14 days after laser treatment. The mice in the sixth and seventh group received intravitreal injection of 2 µl PPADS or PBS respectively immediately after laser treatment. The mice in the eighth group received topical application of PPADS once per day of three days. The mice in sixth, seventh and eighth group received AF and FFA examination on the fourth day after laser treatment. Immunofluorescence histochemical staining and real-time quantitative PCR were used to evaluate P2 expression and its effect on choroidal neovascularization. After laser treatment, activated microglia can express P2 receptors (P2X4, P2X7, P2Y2 and P2Y12). Abstract The pharmacokinetic variability of lamotrigine (LTG) plays a significant role in its dosing requirements. Our goal here was to use noninvasive clinical parameters to predict the dose-adjusted concentrations (C/D ratio) of LTG based on machine learning (ML) algorithms. A total of 1141 therapeutic drug-monitoring measurements were used, 80% of which were randomly selected as the "derivation cohort" to develop the prediction algorithm, and the remaining 20% constituted the "validation cohort" to test the finally selected model. Fifteen ML models were optimized and evaluated by tenfold cross-validation on the "derivation cohort,” and were filtered by the mean absolute error (MAE). On the whole, the nonlinear models outperformed the linear models. The extra-trees’ regression algorithm delivered good performance, and was chosen to establish the predictive model. The important features were then analyzed and parameters of the model adjusted to develop the best prediction model, which accurately described the C/D ratio of LTG, especially in the intermediate-to-high range (≥ 22.1 μg mL−1 g−1 day), as illustrated by a minimal bias (mean relative error (%) = + 3%), good precision (MAE = 8.7 μg mL−1 g−1 day), and a high percentage of predictions within ± 20% of the empirical values (60.47%). This is the first study, to the best of our knowledge, to use ML algorithms to predict the C/D ratio of LTG. The results here can help clinicians adjust doses of LTG administered to patients to minimize adverse reactions.

Abstract MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are known to be crucial players in governing the differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs). Despite their utter importance, identifying key lineage specifiers among the myriads of expressed miRNAs remains challenging. We believe that the current practice in mining miRNA specifiers via delineating dynamic fold-changes only is inadequate. Our study, therefore, provides evidence to pronounce “lineage specificity” as another important attribute to qualify for these lineage specifiers. Adopted hiPSCs were differentiated into representative lineages (hepatic, nephric and neuronal) over all three germ layers whilst the depicted miRNA expression changes compiled into an integrated atlas. We demonstrated inter-lineage analysis shall aid in the identification of key miRNAs with lineage-specificity, while these shortlisted candidates were collectively known as “lineage-specific miRNAs”. Subsequently, we followed through the fold-changes along differentiation via computational analysis to identify miR-192 and miR-372-3p, respectively, as representative candidate key miRNAs for the hepatic and nephric lineages. Indeed, functional characterization validated that miR-192 and miR-372-3p regulate lineage differentiation via modulation of the expressions of lineage-specific genes. In summary, our presented miRNA atlas is a resourceful ore for the mining of key miRNAs responsible for lineage specification.

Abstract Gene manipulation is essential for metabolic engineering and synthetic biology, but the current general gene manipulation methods are not applicable to the non-model strain Corynebacterium glutamicum (C. glutamicum) ATCC14067, which is used for amino acid production. Here, we report an effective and sequential deletion method for C. glutamicum ATCC14067 using the exonuclease-recombinase pair RecE + RecT (RecET) for recombineering via a designed self-excisable linear double-strand DNA (dsDNA) cassette, which contains the Cre/loxP system, to accomplish markerless deletion. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first effective and simple strategy for recombination with markerless deletion in C. glutamicum ATCC14067. This strategy provides a simple markerless deletion strategy for C. glutamicum and builds a solid basis for producer construction.

Abstract Preoperative renal tumor subtype differentiation is important for radiology and urology in clinical practice. Pharmacokinetic data (K trans & V e, etc.) derived from dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) have been used to investigate tumor vessel permeability. In this prospective study on DCE-MRI pharmacokinetic studies, we enrolled patients with five common renal tumor subtypes: clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC; n = 65), papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC; n = 12), chromophobic renal cell carcinoma (cRCC; n = 9), uroepithelial carcinoma (UEC; n = 14), and fat-poor angiomyolipoma (fpAML; n = 10). The results show that K trans of ccRCC, pRCC, cRCC, UEC and fpAML (0.459 ± 0.190 min−1, 0.206 ± 0.127 min−1, 0.311 ± 0.111 min−1, 0.235 ± 0.116 min−1, 0.511 ± 0.159 min−1, respectively) were different, but V e was not. K trans could distinguish ccRCC from non-ccRCC (pRCC & cRCC) with a sensitivity of 76.9% and a specificity of 71.4%, respectively, as well as to differentiate fpAML from non-ccRCC with a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 76.2%, respectively. Our findings suggest that DCE-MRI pharmacokinetics are promising for differential diagnosis of renal tumors, especially for RCC subtype characterization and differentiation between fpAML and non-ccRCC, which may facilitate the treatment of renal tumors.

Abstract This study aims to assess the global prevalence of kinesiophobia and the potential influencing factors among patients with heart disease. A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, PsycINFO, and Scopus databases to identify studies reporting on the prevalence of kinesiophobia and its influencing factors in heart disease patients up to January 2024. A random-effects model was employed to aggregate prevalence rates. Heterogeneity sources were investigated through subgroup analysis, while differences in the prevalence of kinesiophobia across regions, types of heart disease, and gender were evaluated. Additionally, a qualitative analysis of the factors influencing kinesiophobia was performed. This research incorporated 15 studies from six countries, with 14 providing data on the prevalence of kinesiophobia and nine exploring its potential influencing factors. The findings indicated that the overall prevalence of kinesiophobia among heart disease patients was 61.0% (95% CI 49.4–72.6%). Subgroup analysis revealed that the prevalence in upper-middle-income countries was 71.8% (95% CI 66.2–77.4%), while it stands at 49.9% (95% CI 30.2–69.5%) in high-income countries. The prevalence rates among patients with coronary artery disease, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation were 63.2% (95% CI 45.2–81.3%), 69.2% (95% CI 57.6–80.8%), and 71.6% (95% CI 67.1–76.1%), respectively. Gender-wise, no significant difference was observed in the prevalence of kinesiophobia between men and women (52.2% vs. 51.8%). A total of 24 potential influencing factors of kinesiophobia were identified, with education level, monthly income, anxiety, and exercise self-efficacy being the most recognized. The prevalence of kinesiophobia in patients with heart disease is notably high and is influenced by a multitude of factors. Early implementation of targeted preventive measures is imperative to mitigate the incidence of kinesiophobia in this population.

Abstract A major and irreversible complication of diabetes is diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), which can lead to significant disability and decreased quality of life. Prior work demonstrates the peptide hormone Angiotensin II (Ang II) is released locally in neuropathy and drives inflammation and impaired endoneurial blood flow. Therefore, we proposed that by utilizing a local thermoresponsive hydrogel injection, we could deliver inhibitors of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) to suppress Ang II production and reduce nerve dysfunction in DPN through local drug release. The ACE inhibitor captopril was encapsulated into a micelle, which was then embedded into a reversibly thermoresponsive pluronics-based hydrogel matrix. Drug-free and captopril-loaded hydrogels demonstrated excellent product stability and sterility. Rheology testing confirmed sol properties with low viscosity at ambient temperature and increased viscosity and gelation at 37 °C. Captopril-loaded hydrogels significantly inhibited Ang II production in comparison to drug-free hydrogels. DPN mice treated with captopril-loaded hydrogels displayed normalized mechanical sensitivity and reduced inflammation, without side-effects associated with systemic exposure. Our data demonstrate the feasibility of repurposing ACE inhibitors as locally delivered anti-inflammatories for the treatment of sensory deficits in DPN. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of a locally delivered ACE inhibitor for the treatment of DPN.

Abstract This paper proposed a frequency reconfigurable antenna that utilizes a multilayer structure of liquid crystal (LC) material. This antenna design incorporates a three-layer stacked structure to create an LC-injected cavity. The inverted microstrip line structure is designed to be in contact with the LC, serving as both a radiating element and a bias electrode. A parasitic patch is placed at the top of the antenna to enhance bandwidth. To prevent interference with DC and RF sources, a bias tee is integrated into the microstrip line input. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed antenna exhibits excellent impedance matching and stable radiation patterns within the operational frequency range. By comparing the simulated performance of the existing LC antenna with our proposed design, the bandwidth is tripled at a center frequency of 30.3 GHz. In addition, the effective area of the proposed reconfigurable antenna (154 mm2) is 24.6% of the area of the previous reconfigurable antenna (625 mm2).

Abstract The development of intelligent, environmentally responsive and biocompatible photothermal system holds significant importance for the photothermal combined therapy of tumors. In this study, inspired by Lactobacillus (LAC), we prepared a biomimetic nanoplatform PDA&DOX@LAC for tumor photothermal-chemotherapy by integrating the chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin (DOX) with dopamine through oxidative polymerization to form polydopamine (PDA) on the surface of LAC. The PDA&DOX@LAC nanoplatform not only achieves precise and controlled release of DOX based on the slightly acidic microenvironment of tumor tissues, but also exhibits enzyme-like properties to alleviate tumor hypoxia. Under near-infrared light irradiation, it effectively induces photothermal ablation of tumor cells, enhances cellular uptake of DOX with increasing temperature, and thus efficiently inhibits tumor cell growth. Moreover, it is further confirmed in vivo experiments that photothermal therapy combined with PDA&DOX@LAC induces tumor cells apoptosis, releases tumor-associated antigens, which is engulfed by dendritic cells to activate cytotoxic T lymphocytes, thereby effectively suppressing tumor growth and prolonging the survival period of 4T1 tumor-bearing mice. Therefore, the PDA&DOX@LAC nanoplatform holds immense potential in precise tumor targeting as well as photothermal combined therapy and provides valuable insights and theoretical foundations for the development of novel tumor treatment strategies based on endogenous substances within the body.

Abstract Rainstorm is one of the global meteorological disasters that threaten the safety of transportation infrastructure and the connectivity of transportation system. Aiming to support the resilience assessment of transportation infrastructure in three representative regions: Sichuan–Chongqing, Yangtze River Delta, and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei-Shandong, rainfall data over 40 years in the three regions are collected, and the temporal distribution of rainfall are analyzed. Prediction equations of rainfall are established. For the purpose of this, the probabilistic density function (PDF) is assigned to the rainfall by fitting the frequency distribution histogram. Using the assigned PDF, the rainfall data are transformed into standard normal space where regression of prediction equations is performed and the prediction accuracy is tested. The results show that: (1) The frequency of rainfall in the three regions follows a lognormal distribution based on which the prediction equations of rainfall can be established in standard normal space. The error of regression shows no remarkable dependence on self-variables, and the significance analysis indicates that the equations proposed in this paper are plausible for predicting rainfalls for the three regions. (2) The Yangtze River Delta region has a higher risk of rainstorm disaster compared to the other two regions according to the frequency of rainfall and the return period of precipitation concentration. (3) Over the period of 1980–2021, the Sichuan–Chongqing region witnessed an increase in yearly rainfall but a decrease in rainstorm disasters, whereas the other two regions experienced a consistent rise in both metrics.

Abstract In this paper, a double-layer patterned graphene-based frequency-selective absorber (DGFSA) is proposed as a means of reducing an antenna’s radar cross-section (RCS) while simultaneously increasing its gain. The antenna consists of a patch antenna with Multi-Graphene Frequency Selective Absorber (MGFSA) mounted on top. The DGFSA consists of double-layer patterned graphene and a band-pass frequency selective surface (FSS). Two patterned graphene lossy layers with different square resistances are used, which broaden the electromagnetic (EM) wave absorption bandwidth of the DGFSA, thus greatly reducing the out-band monostatic RCSs of the patch antenna. Meanwhile, due to the quasi-Fabry-Perot (F-P) effect, the gain of the proposed antenna is enhanced by 2.4 dB. Additionally, the low-RCS antenna reduces the monostatic RCS from 1.32 to 17 GHz under y-polarization and from 1.4 to 16.8 GHz under x-polarization, respectively. Furthermore, a decrease in the bistatic RCS is accomplished. Results from simulations and measurements match up nicely, which means the antenna we proposed has a good application on the stealth platform.

Abstract Coiled-coil domain-containing 58 (CCDC58) is a member of the CCDC protein family. Similar to other members, CCDC58 exhibits potential tumorigenic roles in a variety of malignancies. However, there is no systematic and comprehensive pan-cancer analysis to investigate the diagnosis, prognosis, immune infiltration, and other related functions of CCDC58. We used several online websites and databases, such as TCGA, GTEx, UALCAN, HPA, CancerSEA, BioGRID, GEPIA 2.0, TIMER 2.0, and TISIDB, to extract CCDC58 expression data and clinical data of patients in pan-cancer. Then, the relationship between CCDC58 expression and diagnosis, prognosis, genetic alterations, DNA methylation, genomic heterogeneity, and immune infiltration level were determined. In addition, the biological function of CCDC58 in liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC) was investigated. Pan-cancer analysis results showed that CCDC58 was differentially expressed in most tumors and showed excellent performance in diagnosis and prediction of prognosis. The expression of CCDC58 was highly correlated with genetic alterations, DNA methylation, and genomic heterogeneity in some tumors. In addition, the correlation analysis of CCDC58 with the level of immune infiltration and immune checkpoint marker genes indicated that CCDC58 might affect the composition of the tumor immune microenvironment. Enrichment analysis showed that CCDC58-related genes were mainly linked to mitosis, chromosome, and cell cycle. Finally, biological function experiments demonstrated that CCDC58 plays an important role in tumor cell proliferation and migration. CCDC58 was first identified as a pan-cancer biomarker. It may be used as a potential therapeutic target to improve the prognosis of patients in the future.

Abstract Limited population-based studies discuss the association between fat mass index (FMI) and the risk of liver diseases. This investigation utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to examine the linkage between the FMI and liver conditions, specifically steatosis and fibrosis. The study leveraged data from NHANES’s 2017–2018 cross-sectional study, employing an oversampling technique to deal with sample imbalance. Hepatic steatosis and fibrosis were identified by vibration-controlled transient elastography. Receiver operating curve was used to assess the relationship of anthropometric indicators, e.g., the FMI, body mass index (BMI), weight-adjusted-waist index (WWI), percentage of body fat (BF%), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and appendicular skeletal muscle index (ASMI), with hepatic steatosis and fibrosis. In this study, which included 2260 participants, multivariate logistic regression models, stratified analyses, restricted cubic spline (RCS), and sharp regression discontinuity analyses were utilized. The results indicated that the WHR and the FMI achieved the highest area under the curve for identifying hepatic steatosis and fibrosis, respectively (0.720 and 0.726). Notably, the FMI presented the highest adjusted odds ratio for both hepatic steatosis (6.40 [4.91–8.38], p = 2.34e−42) and fibrosis (6.06 [5.00, 7.37], p = 5.88e−74). Additionally, potential interaction effects were observed between the FMI and variables such as the family income-to-poverty ratio, smoking status, and hypertension, all of which correlated with the presence of liver fibrosis (p for interaction

Abstract To illustrate the surgical technique and explore clinical outcomes of the reconstruction for the malignant and metastatic bone tumour of proximal femur with metallic modular intercalary prosthesis. Sixteen patients who underwent modular intercalary prosthetic reconstruction after tumour resection were included from April 2012 and October 2020. Prosthesis and screws parameters, resected bone length and residual bone length, clinical outcomes and survivorship were analyzed. All patients were followed up for an average of 19 months (range 1–74). In our series, 12 patients died of the progression of the primary disease at the final follow-up. The cumulative survivorship since the treatment of proximal femoral metastasis was 78.6% (11 patients) at 6 months and 38.5% (5 patients) at 1 year. The mean MSTS score was 22.25 ± 4.55 among all patients. There were no cases of loosening or breakage of the prostheses, plates or screws, despite the various measurements of prostheses and residual bones. Modular intercalary prosthetic reconstruction was an effective method for malignant tumour of the proximal femur, including the advantages of providing early pain relief, quickly restoring postoperative function, required a short operation time, and preserving the adjacent joints.

Abstract Environmental regulations are important means to influence manufacturing enterprise green development. However, there are two completely different conclusions both in theoretical and in empirical research, namely the “Follow Cost” theory and the “Porter Hypothesis”. The nonlinear mechanism needs to be considered. Therefore, this study aims to explain the threshold impact of heterogeneous environmental regulations on enterprise green total factor productivity. Environmental regulations are divided into different sub-categories, then based on the panel data of 1220 Chinese manufacturing listed companies from 2011 to 2020, this paper uses threshold regression model to examine the impact of heterogeneous environmental regulations on Chinese manufacturing enterprise Green Total Factor Productivity. The empirical results show that: (1) Command-controlled, market-incentive and voluntary-agreement environmental regulation all have a significant nonlinear impact on enterprise Green Total Factor Productivity. (2) Enterprise R&D investment plays a threshold role in the impact. (3) There are industry and equity type differences in the impact process. This study focuses on the micro level of enterprises and tests the threshold mechanism, which make some theoretical complement to previous researches. The research results are not only beneficial for the government to propose appropriate environmental regulatory policies, but also for enterprises to achieve green growth through heterogeneous R&D investment.
