Yellow River Estuary and adjacent waters are famous shellfish production areas. Mactra veseriformis, Ruditapes philippinarum, and Meretix meretrix are important species for stocking enhancement. At present, the annual output of shellfish bottom sowing culture has reached 300 thousand tons, with an output value of 1.54 billion RMB. Over stocking of shellfish will cause environmental changes in marine, increase shellfish mortality and endanger ecosystem health. Accordingly, the assessment of the carrying capacity for shellfish based on ecosystem underpins responsible marine fisheries enhancement. In this study, an Ecopath mass-balance model of the Yellow River estuary and adjacent waters ecosystem constructed by Ecopath with Ecosim software was used to analyze the summary statistics parameters of the ecosystem, mixed trophic interactions, and to calculate the ecological carrying capacity of shellfish. The results showed that the ratio of total primary production/total respiration (TPP/TR) was 3.45, that of total primary production/total biomass (TPP/B) was 38.91, with the low Finn cycling index (0.028), high surplus production being 961.24 t ⋅ km-2 ⋅ a-1 and low system connecting index (0.38), indicating that this ecosystem was at an unstable development stage. The increases of shellfish biomass would have positive impacts on Gobiidae, shrimps, crabs, and negative impacts on pelagic fishes, demersal fishes, edible jellyfish, zooplankton. Current biomass of shellfish was 5.5 t ⋅ km-2, with the potential enhancement. Based on the Ecopath model, the primary assessment of carrying capacity of shellfish was 18.22 t ⋅ km-2 in Yellow River estuary and its adjacent waters. Stock enhancement is an important way of fishery resources conservation, which can increase the high quality fishery resources and improve the fish population structure. The study of ecological carrying capacity is the premise for the scientific implementation of stock enhancement. Based on the survey data of the fishery resources and ecological environment in Laizhou Bay from 2009 to 2010, an Ecopath mass-balance model of the Laizhou Bay ecosystem consisted of 26 functional groups was constructed, and applied to analyze the overall characteristics of the ecosystem, the trophic interrelationships, and the keystone species, and to calculate the ecological carrying capacity of Chinese shrimp enhancement. As for the overall characteristics of the ecosystem, the total primary production/ total respiration (TPP/ TR) was 1. 53, total primary production/ total biomass (TPP/ B) was 24. 54, Finn's cycling index was lower (0. 07), surplus production was higher (434. 41 t·km-2 · a-1 ), and system connectance index was lower (0. 29), indicating that this ecosystem was at an early development stage. The analysis on the keystone species showed that Chinese shrimp was not a keystone species of this ecosystem. At present, the biomass of Chinese shrimp in the ecosystem was 0. 1143 t · km-2, with a greater potential of continued enhancement. It did not exceed the ecological carrying capacity of 2.9489 t · km-2 when the biomass of the Chinese shrimp was increased by 25.8 times. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PURPOSE: With literatures review, this retrospective study was aimed to analyze the clinic characteristics and treatment of intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma (IFNS) treated in our department. METHODS: All cases treated in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and diagnosed as IFNS pathologically, from 2000-2007, were reviewed. The data of clinical symptoms, preoperative radio graphic imagings, preoperative diagnosis, tumor size and treatment method were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: Totally, 19 cases of IFNS were collected and reviewed. 3 of 19 (15.8%) were diagnosed as IFNS preoperatively, 2 cases were diagnosed by fine needle aspiration pathology, and 1 by physical examination. IFNS could occurred in any part of the facial nerve, 8 of 19 cases (43.1%) originated from the trunk of facial nerve in our cases. Nerve-sparing was applied in 12 cases, and the facial nerve was sectioned and anastomosed in 2 of these 12 cases; tumor resection with involved facial nerve were applied in 6 cases, and 5 of these 6 cases with facial nerve defect after tumor removal were repaired by auricular nerve transplantation, 1 case with nerve defect was not repaired; partial resection of the tumor was applied in 1 of the 19 cases. There was no tumor relapse in all 19 cases after 15-79 months of follow-up, while the function of the tumor-involved facial nerve were disturbed in all cases. CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative diagnosis of IFNS is difficult, and the diagnosis is based on preoperative fine needle aspiration or post operative pathology. Both nerve-sparing and nerve-resection approach can rarely keep the facial nerve function well after tumor removal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To investigate the epidemiological and clinicopathological characteristics of PCa and provide some strategies for the clinical prevention and treatment of the malignancy., Methods: This study included 1 594 cases of pathologically diagnosed PCa after radical prostatectomy in Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2020. We collected the basic information about the patients, their main complaints and clinicopathological results, and analyzed the epidemiological and clinicopathological data., Results: The patients were aged from 28 to 93 years, and the number of PCa cases showed an overall upward trend from 2010 to 2020. Urinary system symptoms were most common (62.53%) as initial symptoms, followed by increased PSA (17.82%), PCa, prostate nodule, prostate mass (8.43%) and bone metastasis (2.94%) found at physical examinations, and the cases of PSA elevation among the clinic visitors increased year by year from 2010 to 2020. Gleason score 7 was found in a largest proportion of the PCa patients, and adenocarcinoma was the main pathological type (78.6%). Logistic regression analysis showed that high Gleason score, instead of age and expressions of Ki67, AR and ERG, was an independent risk factor for intraductal carcinoma., Conclusion: The incidence of PCa shows an increasing trend, and is more common in those over 50 years old. PSA screening is gradually popularized in China. Intraductal carcinoma, as a major risk factor for aggressive PCa and poor prognosis of the malignancy, is significantly correlated with high Gleason scores.

Objective: To investigate the effects of Xiongcan Yishen Prescription (XYP) on the expressions of cholesterol transport proteins, steroidogenic enzymes and steroidogenic factor-1 (SF-1) in the Leydig cells of the rats with late-onset hypogonadism (LOH)., Methods: Twenty-five 18-month-old male SD rats were randomly divided into five groups of equal number, LOH model control, testosterone propionate (TP) and low-, medium- and high-dose XYP, and another 5 two-month-old male SD rats included as normal controls. After modeling, the animals in the TP group were treated by intramuscular injection of TP at 5.21 mg/kg qd alt, those in the low-, medium- and high-dose XYP groups intragastrically with XYP at 10.4, 20.8 and 41.6 g/kg qd alt respectively, and those in the LOH model and normal control groups with saline, all for 28 successive days. Then, all the rats were sacrificed for determination of the expressions of the cholesterol transport proteins StAR and TSPO, steroidogenic enzymes CYP11A1, HSD3B7 and HSD17B4, and SF-1 in the Leydig cells by Western blot., Results: The expressions of StAR, TSPO, CYP11A1, HSD3B7, HSD17B4 and SF-1 in the Leydig cells were significantly decreased in the LOH model controls compared with those in the normal controls (P< 0.05), but remarkably increased in the low-, medium- and high-dose XYP groups in comparison with those in the LOH model control group (P< 0.05)., Conclusions: Xiongcan Yishen Prescription can up-regulate the expressions of the cholesterol transport proteins StAR and TSPO, steroidogenic enzymes CYP11A1, HSD3B7 and HSD17B4, and SF-1 in the rat Leydig cells, which might be one of the possible mechanisms of the prescription in the treatment of LOH.

Using ultrasonic assisted extraction, column chromatograph purification and gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer(GC-MS) analysis method to quantify the contents of seven kinds of organic phosphorus ester(OPEs) in plastic tracks in Chengdu City. The recovery rates of this method ranged from 71.41% to 110.58% and the correlation coefficient ( r ) of the standard curve was higher than 0.99, which demonstrates satisfying quality control. Plastic track samples were collected from twelve schools in Chengdu. The results show that OPEs are detected in two-thirds of plastic track samples. T n BP[Tri- n -butyl phosphate] and TEHP[tris(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate] were detected with high frequency, while TCEP[tri(2-chloroethyl) phosphate], TDCPP[tridichloropropyl phosphate] and TPhP[triphenyl phosphate] were not detected in any samples. Contents of the total OPEs (Σ7OPEs) in the plastic track ranged from ND to 534.89 ng·g -1 . T n BP was identified at the highest content levels (ND-462.18 ng·g -1 ). TCPP[Trichloropropyl phosphate], a chlorinated phosphate with higher toxicity, was detected in one sample with a contents of 205.94 ng·g -1 . The average exposure dose for adults was 0.14 ng·(kg·d) -1 , lower than that for children of 0.64 ng·(kg·d) -1 . Risk quotients of OPEs for adults and children were only 10 -7 -10 -5 and could be ignored. These results indicate that the government should limit the consumption, as well as the type of OPEs which are added to plastic tracks, to protect population health.

We employed a comparative study to examine the effects of tree species transition on soil microbial biomass, community composition and enzymes activities under Cunninghamia lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook, Eucalyptus grandis and a N-fixing species, Acacia melanoxylon in subtropical China. Results showed that the effect of tree species on soil microbial community and enzymes activities was significant only in the 0-10 cm soil layer. Reforestation with N-fixing species A. melanoxylon on the C. lanceolata harvest site significantly increased the total phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA), fungal PLFAs, Gram-positive bacterial PLFAs, Gram-negative bacterial PLFAs and actinomycetes biomasses in the 0-10 cm soil layer. The principal component analysis (PCA) showed that the soil microbial community composition in A. melanoxylon soil differed significantly from that in C. lanceolata and E. grandis soils. N-fixing species (A. melanoxylon) significantly enhanced the percent abundance of Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and actinomycetes. Activities of cellobiohydrolase, N-acetyl-β-d-glucosaminidase and acid phosphatase were significantly higher under A. melanoxylon than under C. lanceolata and E. grandis plantations. Our results suggested that reforestation with N-fixing species, A. melanoxylon on C. lanceolata harvest site could increase soil microbial biomass, enzyme activities and soil organic matter content.

Objective: To investigate the effects of the combination of musk and olibanum on the tight junction protein expressions in prostatic epithelial cells of normal and chronic prostatitis (CP) rats., Methods: Eighty male SD rats were randomly divided into 8 groups of equal number: normal control, normal musk, normal olibanum, normal musk + olibanum, CP model control, CP model musk, CP model olibanum, and CP model musk + olibanum. At 60 days after modeling, the rats in the control, musk, olibanum, and musk + olibanum groups were treated intragastrically with normal saline, musk (0.021 g per kg body weight per day), olibanum (1.05 g per kg body weight per day), or musk + olibanum respectively, all for 3 days. Then, all the rats were sacrificed and their prostate tissues harvested for detection of the expressions of the tight junction proteins Claudin-1, Claudin-3, Occludin, and ZO-1 in the prostatic epithelial cells by immunohistochemical staining., Results: In the CP models, only the expression of Claudin-1 was significantly increased. In the normal rats, the expression of Claudin-1 was remarkably upregulated after treated with musk (824.6 ± 393.3, P < 0.05), olibanum (982.0 ± 334.0, P < 0.05), and musk + olibanum (1088.1 ± 640.2, P < 0.01); that of Claudin-3 was elevated markedly by olibanum (1 009.5 ± 243.6, P < 0.05) and insignificantly by musk (597.5 ± 80.7), but the increasing effect of olibanum was reduced by musk + olibanum (678.4 ± 255.1). No statistically significant differences were found in the expression of Occludin among the rats treated with musk (693.0 ± 424.8), olibanum (732.1 ± 302.0), and musk + olibanum (560.2 ± 202.3), or in that of ZO-1 in the animals treated with musk (290.0 ± 166.8) and olibanum (419.7 ± 108.1), but the latter was markedly decreased in the musk + olibanum group (197.7 ± 98.2, P < 0.05). In the CP rat models, both the expressions of Claudin-1 (823.0 ± 100.1, P < 0.01) and Occludin (1160.0 ± 32.2, P < 0.05) were significantly increased. The expression of Claudin-1 was remarkably down-regulated by musk (764.9 ± 179.0), olibanum (468.4 ± 220.4), and musk + olibanum (335.1 ± 204.0) (all P < 0.05), but that of Claudin-3 up-regulated by musk (744.6 ± 94.5) and olibanum (700.1 ± 223.7) (both P < 0.05). The expression of Occludin was reduced by musk (615.0 ± 221.0), olibanum (749.6 ± 321.7), and musk + olibanum (505.8 ± 523.7), while that of ZO-1 increased by olibaum (443.2 ± 44.9) and decreased by musk + olibanum (213.5 ± 24.9, P < 0.05)., Conclusion: In physiological and pathological conditions, the combination of musk and olibanum acts on the expressions of tight junction proteins in prostate epithelial cells in a selective and dual-targeting manner, promoting their permeability by down-regulating the expression of ZO-1 and maintaining their structural stability by regulating the expressions of Claudin-1, Claudin-3, and Occludin.

Stock enhancement is increasingly proved to be an important measure of the fishery resources conservation, and the assessment of carrying capacity is the decisive factor of the effects of stock enhancement. Meanwhile, the variations in the energy flow patterns of releasing species and ecosystem were the basis for assessing carrying capacity of stock enhancement. So, in the present study, based on the survey data collected from the Yellow River estuary and adjacent waters during 2012-2013, three Ecopath mass-balance models were established in June, August and October, and the variations in ecosystem energy flow in these months were analyzed, as well as the assessment of carrying capacity of swimming crab enhancement. The energy flow mainly concentrated on trophic level I-III in Yellow River estuary and adjacent waters, and was relatively less on trophic level IV or above. The system flow proportion on the trophic level I was the highest in June, and was the lowest in August. The highest system flow proportion on the trophic level II was found in August, and the lowest in June. The relative and absolute energy flow of swimming crab mainly concentrated on the trophic level III, and the mean trophic level of swimming crab among June, August and October were 3.28. Surplus production was relatively higher in Yellow River estuary and adjacent waters, the highest value was found in June, and the lowest value in August. The ratios of total primary production/total respiration (TPP/TR) were 5.49, 2.47 and 3.01 in June, August and October, respectively, and the ratios of total primary production/total biomass (TPP/B) were 47.61, 33.30 and 29.78, respectively. Combined with the low Finn' s cycling index (FCI: 0.03-0.06), these changes indicated that the Yellow River estuary ecosystem was at an early development stage with higher vulnerability. The energy conversion efficiency of system was from 7.3% to 11.5%, the mean trophic levels of the catch were 3.23, 2.97 and 2.82 in June, August and October, respectively. The highest gross efficiency of the fishery was found in August, and the lowest in June. Finally, based on the Ecopath model in August survey, the preliminarily assessed carrying capacity of swimming crab was 1.5115 t · km(-2) in Yellow River estuary and adjacent waters.

Objective: To study the biological characteristics of Cordyceps ramosa mycelia., Methods: The effects of temperature, pH, carbon source, nitrogen source and C/N ratio on the mycelial growth of Cordyceps ramosa were investigated., Results: The optimum temperature, pH, carbon source, nitrogen source and C/N ratio for the mycelial growth were 25 degrees C, 5.0-7.0, soluble starch, yeast extract and 24:1, respectively., Conclusion: The results provide a reference for cultivation of Cordyceps ramosa.

Objective: To investigate the effects of Radix Ginseng and Radix Notoginseng formula on secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and expression of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 (VEGFR-2) in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) in vitro., Methods: HUVECs were cultured in vitro. Bovine basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) at concentration of 320 U/mL and Radix Ginseng and Radix Notoginseng formula at concentrations of 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4 mg/mL were used to culture with HUVECs. And HUVECs in blank control group were cultured with culture solution only. After 24-hour culture, the content of VEGF in supernatant was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and the expression of VEGFR-2 was detected by immunocytochemical staining and Western-blotting., Results: Radix Ginseng and Radix Notoginseng formula at 0.4 mg/mL, the same as bFGF, increased VEGF content in the HUVEC supernatant and the number of VEGFR-2-positive HUVECs. Expression of VEGFR-2 protein in high-dose Radix Ginseng and Radix Notoginseng formula group was up-regulated as compared with the blank control group., Conclusion: Radix Ginseng and Radix Notoginseng formula can promote HUVEC proliferation and secretion of VEGF, as well as the expression of VEGFR-2 protein, which may be one of the mechanisms of Radix Ginseng and Radix Notoginseng formula in promoting angiogenesis.

Objective: To evaluate the effect, complications and safety of transbronchoscopic balloon detection (TBD) and selective bronchus occlusion (SBO) for intractable pneumothorax., Methods: Forty cases of pneumothorax from 5 teaching hospitals in Fujian province were included for this study. TBD was performed in all the 40 cases for whom chest tube drainage had lasted for more than 7days but failed to close the pleura fistulae. Bronchi leading to pleura fistulae (the target bronchus) were detected by balloon-catheter (Olympus B7-2C) through bronchoscope. After the target bronchus was located, SBO procedures were performed. Autologous blood (20 ml to 30 ml) was injected into the target bronchus and followed by thrombin solution (1000 U) through balloon-catheter. In 10 cases, oxygenation and pulse rate were recorded by pulse-oximeter (Healthdyne 920M) during TBD and SBO. Another 10 cases undergoing bronchoscope without performing TBD and SBO served as the controls. Thorax CT, white blood cell count, neutrophil count and body temperature were measured after SBO., Results: Bronchi leading to pleura fistulae were located by TBD in 34 out of the 40 cases. Air leakage was stopped after the first occlusion in 30 cases, but 5 of which underwent a second occlusion because of recurrence in 72 h. Of the 5 cases, air leakage was stopped in 3, and surgery was required in 2. Taken together, 28 of the 34 cases were cured by SBO and 6 failed. There were no statistically differences between the treatment group and the control group in oxygenation changes during TBD and SBO procedures. In 10 cases thorax CT scan was followed up in 7 days after SBO, and no obstructive atelectasis was found. In 20 cases peripheral white blood cell count was followed up 72 hours after SBO. Leukocytosis (> 10.0 x 10(9)/L) was found in 3, in which pulmonary infection was diagnosed, and leukocytosis was present in 2 cases before the procedure. Five patients (5/34) experienced mild to moderate fever, which resolved quickly., Conclusion: TBD/SBO are safe and effective procedures for intractable pneumothorax.

Objective: To identify the mutations of iduronate-2-sulfatase (IDS) gene, and to establish a basis of prenatal gene diagnosis of Hunter syndrome., Methods: Urine glycosaminoglycan (GAG) assay was used to preliminary diagnosis of mucopolysaccharidosis. PCR-denaturing high-performance liquidchromatograptly (PCR-DHPLC) analysis was performed to detect the mutation in exons 9, 3, 8 of the IDS gene. DNA sequencing was applied to analyze the mutation detected by PCR-DHPLC., Results: Abnormal peaks were found by PCR-DHPLC. A new frame-mutation (1569+TT) in exon 9 of IDS gene was identified by DNA sequencing. Two "T"q inserted in position 1569 base pair (1569+TT) caused a substitution of codon 482 (TTA, leucine) to 482 (TTT, phenylalanine). The "TT" insertion results in the decrease of amino acids from 550 to 482. The patient is a hemizygote and his mother is a heterozygote., Conclusion: A new frame-shift mutation of IDS gene is found to report. The mutation (1569+TT) results in 68 amino acids lost. Probably it causes the enzyme activity seriously dropped down and being pathologically the basis of disease.

Objective: To detect the gene mutation of a family with piebaldism., Methods: Diagnosis of a patient with piebaldism was constructed by pathology, ultrastructural examination and typical clinical-phenotype. Detection of gene mutation was carried out by PCR and DNA sequencing., Results: G 2528A substitution transition in the KIT gene was found in the proband of the family with piebaldism. This mutation resulted in S850N substitution in protein product of KIT gene. No mutation was found in 100 normal individuals and other family members., Conclusion: The mutation of S850N maybe one cause of clinical phenotype of the family with piebaldism.

Objective: To detect gene mutation in proband and his mother from a family with piebaldism., Methods: Diagnosis of a patient with piebaldism was validated by pathology, ultrastructural examination and the typical clinical manifestation. PCR and DNA sequencing were carried out to detect gene mutation of a family with piebaldism., Results: G1833A transition in the KIT gene was found in the proband of the family with piebaldism. This mutation resulted in V604I substitution in KIT gene. No mutation was found in 100 normal individuals and other family members., Conclusion: The mutation of V604I is the cause of clinical phenotype of the family with piebaldism.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between complex 1311 mutation of C-->T in exon 11 and 93 T-->C in intron 11 of G6PD gene and the G6PD deficiency., Methods: Using NBT paper strip method to screen and quantitative NBT method to confirm G6PD deficiency. PCR-SSCP technique was used to find the abnormal exon 11 and the amplification refractory mutation system (ARMS) to identify 1311 mutation, and DNA sequencing to identify the complex mutation at 1311 in exon 11 and 93 in intron 11., Results: Abnormal band in exon 11 was found in 12 cases. DNA sequencing showed that they were 1311 mutation together with 93 mutation., Conclusion: This complex mutation may be the cause of reduced activity of G6PD enzyme.

Objective: Studying on G6PD polymorphism from Hakka population in Guangdong province., Methods: Identifying the variants of G6PD gene and determining the frequencies respectively with the use of amplified refractory mutation system(ARMS), polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism(PCR-SSCP) and ABI 3100 DNA sequencing technologies., Results: Mutations of G6PD gene in cDNA 1388 (G-->A), 1376 (G-->T), 95 (A-->G), 392 (G-->T), 1024 (C-->T), 1311 (C-->T) have been found., Conclusion: G6PD cDNA 1388 (G-->A), 1376 (G-->T), 95(A--> G), 392 (G-->T), 1024 (C-->T) and 1311 (C-->T) accompanied with intron 11 (93 T-->C) are the common mutations in Chinese population. cDNA 1388 (G-->A), cDNA 1376 (G-->T) are the most popular G6PD gene variants in Hakka population. In this study, no new type of G6PD gene mutation was found in the Hakkas of Guangdong.

To investigate the genetic polymorphism of the StuI site in the GALNS gene from a national minority population in Guangdong and to study the mode of transmission of alleles,PCR-RFLP was used to analyze 144 chromosomes from 72 Guangdong unrelated healthy national minority individuals,and the genotypes of members in three families. To compare the frequencies and heterzygosity between Guangdong national minority people and Caucasians,Japanese and Chinese Han people by using chi2 test. The frequency of allele D1(295bp) was 0.70, allele D2(138 plus 157 bp)0.30, the heterozygosity was 29%. The genotypes of each member of all families detected were completely agreement with the theorical assessment. The site of StuI in the GALNS gene from national minority population in Guangdong has polymorphism. There is significant difference between Guangdong national minority population and Caucasians in Western countries, but no significant difference was found between Guangdong national minority population and Japanese and Chinese Han population. In addition,there is significant difference between Guangdong national minority population and Caucasians and Japanese in the heterzygosity, but no significant difference between Guangdong national minority population and Chinese Han population. The transmission of alleles was completely in agreement with the Mendelian genetic law.

Background: To summarize the experience of carinal resection and bronchial sleeve lobectomy in the treatment of 105 patients with central lung cancer from November, 1991, to November, 2001., Methods: A total of 105 patients with central lung cancer underwent pulmonary resection. Carinal resection and reconstruction was performed in 19 patients, bronchial sleeve resection in 81, and bronchial sleeve combined with pulmonary artery sleeve lobectomy in 5., Results: There was no operative mortality. Postoperative complications such as anastomotic leakage, cardiac arrhythmia, asthma, pulmonary atelectasis occurred in 10.5% of total group. The 1-, 3- and 5- year survival rates were 89.9%, 60.0% and 47.2%, respectively., Conclusions: Bronchial sleeve lobectomy and double-sleeve lobectomy are capable of excising pulmonary tumor as much as possible while remaining healthy lung tissues. Carinal resection and reconstruction is helpful to extend the surgical indication.
