Spinal cord injury has the characteristics of high mortality and disability rates, and the treatment of spinal cord injury has been a worldwide problem. With the deepening of spinal cord injury research and the advancement of treatment methods, the survival rate of patients has improved, but the clinical efficacy is still not ideal. New research has found that the immune response is involved in the entire process of pathological changes and regeneration and repair after spinal cord injury. Among them, the complement system plays an important role in the occurrence and development of spinal cord injury. This article mainly reviews the role of the complement system in secondary spinal cord injury and regeneration and repair after spinal cord injury, including the doubleedged sword effect of the complement system, the impact of the complement system on axonal regeneration and synaptic maintenance, and possible signaling pathways, with a view to improving the treatment of spinal cord injury, providing new treatment ideas.

BACKGROUND Sepiolite is a very important non-metallic mineral, which is widely used in aviation, animal husbandry, the chemical industry, environmental protection and other fields. Sepiolite is in great demand and needs a lot of analysis and testing. However, the existing sepiolite reference materials are inadequate and do not satisfy the needs of sepiolite composition analysis. Furthermore, there are no sepiolite reference materials in China, making it necessary to develop one. OBJECTIVES To prepare a reference material for composition analysis of sepiolite whose certified value components cover as many elements as possible. METHODS Sepiolite samples were collected from Xiangtan, Hunan Province. The samples were subjected to primary crushing, coarse-grain sieving, inactivation, fine grinding and fine grain sieving. After passing the initial inspection, samples were bottled and numbered. Random samples were taken for homogeneity test, stability test. 24 components were selected for homogeneity and stability test. RESULTS The results showed that the RSD of 20 components were less than 3%, and the F value of the variance test was less than the critical value of the list[F0.05(29, 60)=1.65], indicating that the homogeneity of the reference material was good. During the investigation period, the contents of 24 components had no significant change, indicating that the standard material was stable. Nine laboratories cooperated with traditional chemical analysis methods and modern instrumental analysis methods to determine the value. The final values were 63 components, covering major, trace and all rare earth elements. The contents of characteristic components MgO and LOI were 18% and 8.55%, respectively. These two components form a certain ladder with the existing reference materials, which can better satisfy the requirements of sepiolite composition analysis. CONCLUSIONS The developed sepiolite reference material can be used as the quality control standards for geological prospecting, geochemical investigation and testing of geological and mineral products, as well as for other industries to analyze similar materials. Moreover, in the process of developing the reference material, improvements and developments to the new methods will provide technical support for the subsequent development of the sepiolite reference material.

BACKGROUND Sepiolite is a widely used fibrous magnesium-rich silicate clay mineral. Sepiolite is mainly composed of silicon and magnesium, with minor aluminum, potassium, sodium and other impurities. Determination of the major element of sepiolite usually adopts the classical chemical analytical method. After the alkali melting treatment, the sample is determined by volumetric method, photometry and atomic absorption spectrometry, which is inefficient and time-consuming. Moreover, potassium and sodium cannot be simultaneously determined. OBJECTIVES To find an efficient method for the determination of seven major elements in sepiolite. METHODS The samples were digested by hydrofluoric acid, nitric acid, and perchloric acid. Contents of major elements such as Al2O3 were determined by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). The dosage of hydrofluoric acid was optimized. The analytical spectral lines were Al 396.153nm, Ti 334.940nm, K 766.490nm, Na 589.592nm, Ca 422.673nm, Mg 285.213nm and Fe 238.204nm, and elements were determined by axial observation. The content of magnesium in sepiolite was high, and there was a certain matrix effect during ICP-OES analysis. A series of high magnesium mixed standard solutions were prepared to match the matrix. RESULTS The linear correlation coefficient of the standard curve of each element was greater than 0.9990, the detection limits of the method were 0.53-3.25μg/g, the relative standard deviations (RSD, n=10) of the measured results were 0.66%-5.65%, and the recoveries of each element were 95.3%-108.5%. CONCLUSIONS Acid dissolution is easy to operate compared with the alkali fusion method. The results are consistent with those obtained by classical chemical analytical methods and thus meet the analytical requirements of sepiolite samples.

BACKGROUND The sampling weight can be as low as milligram level when the contents of rare earth elements in rock and soil samples are determined by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). However, the size of 200 mesh samples requires 100mg to ensure representativeness, which makes it difficult for ICP-MS to make full use of its advantages of high sensitivity and small sampling volume. OBJECTIVES To establish the method for the determination of rare earth elements in ultra-fine rock and soil samples by ICP-MS with microwave digestion. METHODS A method was developed for the determination of rare earth elements in ultra-fine rock and soil samples by ICP-MS with microwave digestion. The ultra-fine rock and soil samples were prepared by the planetary superfine pulverizing machine with wet grinding. Some parameters influencing the preparation of ultra-fine rock and soil samples, including grinding method, grinding time and the proportion of grinding balls were optimized. Microwave digestion of ultrafine-grained rock and soil samples in a nitric acid-hydrofluoric acid-hydrogen peroxide solution system, the sampling amount was reduced to 5mg, the total acid amount was reduced to 0.25mL and the digestion time was reduced to 25 minutes. RESULTS The results indicated that the samples were best refined when the wet-milling was adopted with ethanol as a dispersant and the milling time was 10 minutes and 15 minutes for 200 mesh soil and rock samples, respectively. The material ratios were 7g materials, 500 grinding balls, 45mL dispersants for the preparation of ultra-fine soil samples, whereas 5g materials, 500 grinding balls, 45mL dispersants for the preparation of ultra-fine rock samples. The particle size distribution D95 of soil standard substance GBW07404 and GBW07447 can be as low as 7.51μm and 7.05μm, and the D95 of rock standard substance GBW07104 and GBW07121 can be 8.42μm and 8.30μm under the optimized conditions. Microwave digestion of ultrafine-grained rock sample GBW07104 in a nitric acid-hydrofluoric acid-hydrogen peroxide solution system, the sampling amount was reduced to 5mg, the total acid amount was reduced to 0.25mL, the digestion time was reduced to 25 minutes, and the measured value of rare earth elements was consistent with the certified value with the relative standard deviation is between 1.64% and 5.21%. CONCLUSIONS This method was used for the detection of rare earth elements in other ultra-fine standard materials (GBW07404, GBW07447 and GBW07121), which yielded the relative standard deviation of 0.17%-6.60%, meeting the first criterion of Geology and Minerals Laboratory Testing Quality Management Standards.

BACKGROUND Solid sampling technology applied in soil sample measurement has the limitation of sample size, and cannot be applied to the mainstream element analysis instrument. OBJECTIVES To determine the trace elements by smashing soil samples to micron scale by high-speed grinding technology and under the action of a dispersant. METHODS The ultra-fine grinding technology of soil samples was systematically studied. The sample was crushed to micron level in a few minutes in an ethanol medium. The prepared solid suspension was directly measured by ICP-MS, avoiding blockage of pneumatic atomizers. RESULTS The determination of the reference materials shows that the solid suspension still has interference when the particle size is 6.8μm. By adding a small amount of hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid to modify the solid suspension, the solid particle size was reduced and thereby the impact of the sample size was reduced. The 13 trace elements of lithium, beryllium, vanadium, chromium, nickel, copper, zinc, rubidium, strontium, cadmium, cesium, barium and lead were successfully determined by ICP-MS. Accuracy experiment showed that the maximum relative error is 10.5%±3% and most of the elements have a relative error less than 5%. The precision experiment showed that most elements have a relative standard deviation (RSD) of less than 5.4%. CONCLUSIONS The determination results meet the requirements of DZ/G 0130-2006 'Test of Geology and Mineral Resources Quality Management Standards'.

BACKGROUND Sepiolite is a fibrous hydrous magnesium rich silicate clay mineral with the content of rare earth elements between 1×10-7 and 1×10-5. There is no national standard method for the determination of rare earth elements in sepiolite. Determination of rare earth elements in rocks commonly uses ICP-MS. Sample pretreatments generally use closed digestion and alkaline fusion, but these two treatments are time consuming and inefficient. OBJECTIVES To find an efficient dissolution method for the determination of 15 rare earth elements in sepiolite. METHODS By comparing three sample pretreatment methods of nitrate hydrofluoric acid hydrogen peroxide, nitric acid-hydrofluoric acid and nitric-acid hydrogen peroxide, the nitric acid-hydrofluoric acid solution system was selected. Microwave digestion was carried out and the hydrofluoric acid was driven off to avoid the formation of insoluble fluorides from the hydrofluoric acid. The content of 15 rare earth elements was determined by ICP-MS. RESULTS Due to the high content of magnesium in sepiolite, two internal standards of 103Rh and 185Re are selected to compensate for the drift of analytical signals and to correct matrix effects. The recoveries of the method range from 91.2% to 110.9%. The detection limits are 0.002-0.011 μg/L, and the precisions are 0.81%-2.79%. CONCLUSIONS The result of this method is in good agreement with that of the closed acid-digestion ICP-MS method, and with a small amount of acid (7 mL), high digestion efficiency (1 h), and a lower detection limit.

BACKGROUND The reductive environment of uranium is the most important influencing factor of uranium mineralization. The study of various redox markers in interlayer oxidation bands is of great significance for finding interlayer oxidation zone sandstone-type uranium deposits. OBJECTIVES The reduction experiments were carried out on reducing materials commonly found in sandstone-type uranium deposits such as ferrous, sulfide, pyrite, ilmenite, humic acid, biogas, and hydrogen. The reduction capacity of ferrous ion, sulfur ion, pyrite and other reduction factors at room temperature and pressure was studied. METHODS By polarography and spectrophotometry experiments to determine U(Ⅵ) and U(Ⅳ) content respectively. Their reduction capacity was analyzed. RESULTS Iron ion and sulfur ion had strong reducing properties, andhumic acid had certain reducing properties. Such as pyrite, ilmenite experiment in different acidity and sage green sandstone water soaking experiments showed that the soaked solution of gray-green sandstone contained a certain amount of ferrous ions, and there was no sulfur ion. CONCLUSIONS These ferrous ions were the main reason for the strong reducibility of gray-green sandstone. It also indicated that the gray-green sandstone was one of the most important factors in the subsequent mineralization of sandstone type uranium deposit in Ordos area.

The powder pellet compression method for X-ray Fluorescence analysis is an ideal environmentally friendly sample preparation technique with the added advantages of being simple and having high efficiency. However, due to the impact of particle effects and mineral effects, its measurement error is within about 5%, which hinders the application of this technology in the detection of major elements. Powder pellet technology is mainly used in the determination of trace elements as well as the analysis field with less precision. In this study, the stream sediment and soil reference material were crushed to an average particle size about 4-5 μm within a few minutes by ultra-high-speed planetary pressure prototype. The method of ultra-fine pressed powder pellet sample to determine SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, CaO, MgO and other major elements was established by using X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry. Measurement precision (RSD) of the method for most of the major elements is less than 2%, and detection limits are 0.003%-0.021%, which is an improvement on the melting method detection limit (0.006%-0.081%), especially for small atomic sodium with four times improvement on the detection limit. The development of this ultra-fine powder compression method for stream sediment and soil, minimizes the impact of the particle size effect by crushing the sample into several microns. X-ray Diffraction analysis demonstrates that the mineral composition of river sediments and soil preparation is dominated by quartz. Therefore, the mineral composition is simple with negligible mineral effect. Measured data with added LOI normalized processing shows that normalized measurements for each element is consistent with the standard value. The accuracy of the method is a significant over the conventional pellet sampling method.

Aiming at the failure to access to transit information problem that affects the accuracy of the data and limits the processing speed of transport business and the scope of use in logistics management in transit, a logistics management system in transit based on RFID technology was designed. The system which adopted RFID technology to integrate cloud storage technology and GPRS technology made contactless automatic identification to the long-range and high-speed mobile goal. It also could track transit product "existence" which could provide a more complete process data record, and make the head of the household keep track of products in transit state. The application practice showed that the system could effectively solve the problems of small and medium-sized logistics enterprises and had the characteristics of low cost and easy operation. The rapid growth recently in mobile communication technology presents a great challenge for education. New concepts and techniques in this subject must be involved in undergraduate teaching. It is helpful for the combination of theoretical study and exploration. Objective: To investigate the relationship between blood pressure variability (BPV) and incidence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in trauma patients., Methods: Patients admitted to the department of emergency medicine of the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University for acute trauma from January 2018 to December 2021 were enrolled. The clinical data and blood pressure at admission (T1), 10 minutes before anesthesia (T2), 60 minutes after surgery (T3), and 24 hours after surgery (T4) were collected. Coefficient of variation of blood pressure variation [CV-BP, including coefficient of variation of systolic blood pressure (CV-SBP), coefficient of variation of diastolic blood pressure (CV-DBP), coefficient of variation of mean arterial pressure (CV-MAP)] and its quartile were calculated. Patients were divided into Q1 group (CV-MAP ≤ 7.27), Q2 group (7.27 < CV-MAP ≤ 9.50), Q3 group (9.50 < CV-MAP ≤ 14.05) and Q4 group (CV-MAP > 14.05) according to CV-MAP quartile. The PTSD symptoms of the patients were evaluated using the PTSD scale (PCL-5) one month later, and the patients were divided into the PTSD group and the non-PTSD group according to whether PCL-5 score higher than 38. Then the differences of the above indicators were compared and analyzed. Spearman correlation analysis was used to analyze the relationship between each index and PCL-5 score; the risk factors of PTSD were analyzed by univariate binary Logistic regression. Variables with P < 0.05 were included in the multivariate binary Logistic regression model. The receiver operator characteristic curve (ROC curve) was drawn to analyze the predictive value of CV-MAP on the incidence of PTSD., Results: A total of 112 patients were enrolled, including 24 in PTSD group and 88 in non-PTSD group. Compared with non-PTSD group, the proportion of women, T1 shock index, proportion of intraoperative and postoperative blood transfusion in PTSD group was higher. Besides, PTSD group also had longer PT, more intraoperative and postoperative blood transfusion, and lower postoperative hemoglobin (Hb) level (all P < 0.05). The T1 SBP, DBP, MAP and T4 MAP of patients in PTSD group were significantly lower than those in non-PTSD group [T1 SBP (mmHg, 1 mmHg ≈ 0.133 kPa): 105.0 (86.3, 121.3) vs. 122.0 (112.0, 132.8), T1 DBP (mmHg): 62.5 (50.0, 77.3) vs. 76.0 (68.5, 82.8), T1 MAP (mmHg): 77.8 (60.4, 91.3) vs. 93.3 (82.5, 99.0), T4 MAP (mmHg): 83.8±9.1 vs. 88.7±10.4, all P < 0.05], CV-SBP, CV-DBP and CV-MAP were higher than those in the non-PTSD group [CV-SBP: 12.80 (10.12, 19.16) vs. 9.30 (6.07, 12.95), CV-DBP: 16.62±6.47 vs. 12.40±5.61, CV-MAP: 14.10 (9.25, 18.85) vs. 8.90 (6.93, 13.29), all P < 0.05]. Spearman correlation analysis showed that there was a positive correlation between CV-MAP and PCL-5 scores in patients with acute trauma (r = 0.429, P < 0.001); multivariate binary Logistic regression analysis showed that only CV-MAP [odds ratio (OR) = 1.128, 95% confidence interval (95%CI) was 1.015-1.254, P = 0.025] and CV-DBP (OR = 1.114, 95% confidence interval (95%CI) was 1.016-1.221, P = 0.022) was the risk factor for PTSD in acute trauma patients. Compared with Q1 group, Q4 group was significantly more likely to develop PTSD (OR = 18.6, 95%CI was 1.9-179.1, P = 0.012). CV-SBP, CV-DBP and CV-MAP had certain predictive value on PTSD diagnosis in patients with acute trauma according to ROC curve analysis results [area under the ROC curve (AUC) was 0.713, 0.682 and 0.726, respectively], among which CV-MAP has the highest predictive value. When the cut-off value of CV-MAP was 12.158, the sensitivity was 75.0% and the specificity was 69.3%., Conclusions: Higher BPV after trauma is a risk factor for PTSD. Maintaining stable blood pressure in trauma patients is of great significance for prevention and treatment of PTSD.

A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the growth response and Cd accumulation characteristics among different populations of Hylotelephium spectabile in Cd-contaminated cinnamon soil (2.22 mg·kg -1 ) with the addition of different concentrations of NaCl. Results showed that the biomasses and Cd concentrations of H. spectabile showed significant differences among different populations under Cd alone or Cd-salt combined stress. Moreover, salt stress aggravated the growth inhibition of H. spectabile and the Cd concentrations in different H. spectabile populations showed a declining trend, which may be related to the salt-derived pH increase leading to a decrease in Cd bioavailability. In addition, the growth and Cd absorption responses of H. spectabile under salt stress were significantly different in the different populations. The shoot biomasses of the LN population were significantly higher than in other populations under different treatment, and showed no significant decrease with the addition of 1% NaCl when compared with the control treatment and the tolerance index remained 0.91. At the same time, the shoot Cd concentration of the LN population was significantly higher than in other populations under different treatments. The result may be attributed to the Cd accumulation and detoxification mechanisms in LN are prior than other populations that may also have important physiological mechanisms for tolerance of salt stress. In summary, although Cd uptake in H. spectabile decreased with salt stress, there were significant differences among different populations. LN populations accumulated 84.4 μg·plant -1 Cd in shoots with 2% NaCl addition, which was 48.4%-89.3% higher than in other populations. Therefore, H. spectabile, especially LN populations, is a good candidate for phytoremediation of Cd-contaminated saline soil.

A hydroponic experiment was conducted to study the interaction of Cd and Zn affecting the root morphology and accumulation of Cd and Zn in Sedum aizoon . The results show that S. aizoon exhibits a high tolerance to single stress of Cd and Zn and the concentrations of Cd and Zn in the leaf, stem, and root of S. aizoon increase as the stress levels increase. A strong phytoextraction capacity in S. aizoon was also observed for the Cd concentration in the aboveground part reaching 133.0 mg·kg -1 . The combined stress of Cd and Zn has a greater effect on the growth of S. aizoon than single stress to which the root is more sensitive. The root length, surface area, root volume, and tips significantly decrease under combined stress of Cd and Zn; the effect on the tips is most significant. The low-level Zn application (10 mg·L -1 ) has a synergistic effect on the Cd accumulation in the shoot of S. aizoon because of the promotion of Cd translocation from root to shoot. However, the addition of Cd leads to a notable antagonism of the Zn absorption of S. aizoon . The concentration ratio of Zn and Cd also has a significant effect on the Cd uptake of S. aizoon . A high ratio promotes the Cd accumulation in the shoot, while the latter is inhibited by a low Zn/Cd ratio. Therefore, S. aizoon possesses a strong potential of Cd phytoextraction and can be applied for phytoremediation of Cd-contaminated soil, while the adjustment of the ratio of Cd and Zn in the growth medium will help to enhance the phytoremediation efficiency of S. aizoon .

OBJECTIVE To screen for mutations in a Chinese pedigree affected with hypokalemic periodic paralysis. METHODS The proband and nine family members were enrolled for the analysis of CACNA1S and SCN4A gene mutations. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood samples. The coding regions of the two genes were amplified with PCR and subjected to Sanger sequencing. Potential impact of suspected mutations was predicted with Bioinformatics software. The mutations were also verified among 100 healthy controls. RESULTS The proband and 5 family members (including 5 males and 1 female) had presented with episodes of flaccid paralysis accompanied by low serum potassium. Genetic testing has identified a c.664C>T (p.Arg222Trp) mutation in the proband, which has been reported previously. The same mutation was identified in other 5 affected members from the family. No mutation of the CACNA1S gene was detected. CONCLUSION The c.664C>T mutation of the SCN4A gene probably underlies the hypokalemic periodic paralysis in this family. All patients from the family have shown a complete penetrance of the disease.

Two series of chalcogenide glasses in Ge-Sb-S ternary system were synthesized with melt-quenching method. The phycochemical properties and spectral characteristic of glasses with different content of Ge and Sb were obtained with a series of measurements, and the systematic analysis on the change of optical properties was conducted in terms of microstructure of glasses combined with the Raman spectra. With constraint theory based on mean coordination number (Z), we described the variation trend of network structure directly. It was found that as long as the value of Z reaches 2.6, new vibration peaks would be formed in the Raman spectra indicating the presence of threshold behavior as well as the change of the network structure of the Ge-Sb-S glasses which could be expressed in a specific varition in the number of metal bonds and the nonmetal bonds. The appearance of new functional groups in the network have changed the total bond energy of glasses, and then affected the energy band structure of glasses representing the corresponding threshold behavior of the value of optical band gap (Eopg).

The main analysis error of pressed powder pellet of carbonate comes from particle-size effect and mineral effect. So in the article in order to eliminate the particle-size effect, the ultrafine pressed powder pellet sample preparation is used to the determination of multi-elements and carbon-dioxide in carbonate. To prepare the ultrafine powder the FRITSCH planetary Micro Mill machine and tungsten carbide media is utilized. To conquer the conglomeration during the process of grinding, the wet grinding is preferred. The surface morphology of the pellet is more smooth and neat, the Compton scatter effect is reduced with the decrease in particle size. The intensity of the spectral line is varied with the change of the particle size, generally the intensity of the spectral line is increased with the decrease in the particle size. But when the particle size of more than one component of the material is decreased, the intensity of the spectral line may increase for S, Si, Mg, or decrease for Ca, Al, Ti, K, which depend on the respective mass absorption coefficient . The change of the composition of the phase with milling is also researched. The incident depth of respective element is given from theoretical calculation. When the sample is grounded to the particle size of less than the penetration depth of all the analyte, the effect of the particle size on the intensity of the spectral line is much reduced. In the experiment, when grounded the sample to less than 8 μm(d95), the particle-size effect is much eliminated, with the correction method of theoretical α coefficient and the empirical coefficient, 14 major, minor and trace element in the carbonate can be determined accurately. And the precision of the method is much improved with RSD < 2%, except Na2O. Carbon is ultra-light element, the fluorescence yield is low and the interference is serious. With the manual multi-layer crystal PX4, coarse collimator, empirical correction, X-ray spectrometer can be used to determine the carbon dioxide in the carbonate quantitatively. The intensity of the carbon is increase with the times of the measurement and the time delay even the pellet is stored in the dessicator. So employing the latest pressed powder pellet is suggested.

Objective: To investigate the effect of fasudil on in vitro cultured cardiomyocytes (CMs) exposed to omethoate and its possible mechanism., Methods: Cardiomyocytes were isolated from male SD rats and were then cultured in DMEM conventionally. The CMs were divided into different groups based on the doses of omethoate and fasudil in culture media. After 3, 6, 12, and 24 h of culture, the survival rate of CMs in each group was measured, the CMs in the medium-dose omethoate and medium-dose fasudil groups were subject to shortening amplitude measurement , and the content of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in culture media and expression of Bcl-2 and Bax in CMs were measured., Results: Compared with the normal control group, each omethoate group showed significantly lower survival rate of CMs, which was negatively correlated with the dose of omethoate (P < 0.01). Compared with the normal control group, the medium-dose omethoate and medium-dose fasudil groups showed significantly decreased shortening amplitudes of CMs at all time points (P < 0.01), and the shortening amplitudes of CMs were significantly higher in the medium-dose fasudil group than in the medium-dose omethoate group after 12 h and 24 h of culture (P < 0.01). The LDH level was significantly higher in the medium-dose omethoate and medium-dose fasudil groups than in the normal control group, and the medium-dose fasudil group showed significantly lower LDH level than the medium-dose omethoate group (P < 0.01). Compared with those in the normal control group, the Bcl-2 expression in the medium-dose omethoate and medium-dose fasudil groups was decreased significantly, and the Bax expression in the medium-dose omethoate group was increased significantly (P < 0.01). Compared with the medium-dose omethoate group, the medium-dose fasudil group had significantly increased Bcl-2 expression and significantly decreased Bax expression (P < 0.01)., Conclusion: Fasudil can inhibit the abnormal expression of apoptosis regulatory proteins (Bcl-2 and Bax) induced by omethoate, which might be one of the factors that reduce the toxic effect of omethoate on CMs.

A serial of chalcogenide glasses based on 78GeS2-12Ga2S3-10CsI (in molar%) system doped with the different radios of Ho3+/Tm3+ ions were synthesized by melt-quenching method. Their absorption spectra and mid-infrared fluorescence under 808 nm laser excitation were measured. According to Judd-Ofelt theory, the intensity parameters omega(i) (i = 2, 4, 6), spontaneous transition probabilities A(rad) and radiative lifetomes tau(r) for Ho3+ ion were calculated. Absorption cross-sections sigma(a), emission cross-sections sigma(e) and gain coefficient G(lambda) corresponding to the emission of Ho3+ ions at 2.0 microm were obtained. By changing the Tm3+ concentration, the energy transfer regime of Tm3+ and Ho3+ ions under 808 nm excitation was investigated. The results show that Ho3+/Tm(3+)-codoped Ge-Ga-S-CsI glasses would be a potential material for 2.0 microm emission.

Objective: To explore the indications of arthroscope for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis and investigate the correlation between knee osteoarthritis imaging and effects of arthroscope., Methods: From 2005.8 to 2008.4, 86 patients with knee osteoarthritis underwent arthroscope examination and treatment. Among the patients, 44 patients were male, and 42 patients were female, ranging in age from 46 to 67 years, averaged 56.3 years. Arthrodial cartilage of knee was graded by ICRS MR, and by Kellgern Laqrence X-ray. All the patients were followed up, and the duration ranged from 12 to 30 months. The Lysholm score was evaluated at the follow-up time., Results: Among 86 knees in 86 cases, cartilage injury degree of knees was graded as follows: grade 4 in 30 cases, grade 3 in 22 cases, grade 2 in 20 cases, grade 1 in 12 cases, grade 0 in 2 cases, mean grade (2.77 +/- 1.138). Postoperative Lysholm score ranged from 59 to 100, averaged (95.17 +/- 7.556), Kendall's correlation coefficient was -0.089, P = 0.317. There was no correlations between cartilage injury degree and Lysholm score. X-ray of knees was graded as follows: grade 4 in 0 cases, grade 3 in 24 cases, grade 2 in 38 cases, grade 1 in 17 cases, grade 0 in 7 cases, mean grade was (2.13 +/- 0.67), the Kendall's correlation coefficient was -0.851 with negative correlations (P = 0.036) between postoperative Lysholm score and K/L grade., Conclusion: There is no correlation between the grade of knee cartilage injury confirmed by MRI (1.5T) and effects of arthroscopy, and the grade is not a gold standard as an operation indication in arthroscope procedure. The K/L grade in X-ray had important effects.

A series of chalcohalide glasses based on the composition 0.9 (Ge25 Ga5 S70)-0.1CsI doped with the different Tm3+ / Dy3+ ions ratio were synthesized by melt-quenching technique. The absorption spectra, and mid-infrared fluorescence of different glass samples under 800 nm laser excitation were measured. The results prove that, Tm3+ is an efficient sensitizer, which can enhance the Dy3+ : 2.9 microm fluorescence intensity significantly. A decrease in the intensity of 1.8 microm fluorescence and lifetimes of the Tm3+ : (3)F4 level occurred with increasing the concentration of Dy3+ ions from 0 to 1 Wt% where Tm3+ concentration was fixed to 0.5 Wt%. Also a wide spectral overlap between Tm+ : 1.8 microm emission and the absorption of Dy3+ : 6 H(15/2) --> (6)H(11/2) showed that the effective energy transfer between the two rare-earth ions was mainly attributed to the resonance energy from Tm3+: (3)F4 to Dy(3)+ : (6)H(11/2) level.

Objective: To observe the protective mechanism of ulinastatin on mice with acute lung injury induced by exposure to phosgene and its relationship to the expressions of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in the lung tissues., Methods: Sixty-four healthy male SD rats were randomly divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. 32 rats in the experiment group were randomly subdivided into four groups: rats with phosgene exposure group, rats with phosgene exposure after saline injected group, rats with phosgene exposure after dexamethasone injected group. 32 rats in the control group were randomly subdivided into four groups: rats with air exposure group, pretreated with ulinastatin before air exposure group, pretreated with saline before air exposure group, pretreated with dexamethasone before air exposure group, 8 animals in each group. After pretreated with the same dose of ulinastatin, saline, dexamethasone respectively, 32 rats in the control groups were exposed to the air on the same condition respectively for 5 min. While after pretreated with the same dose of ulinastatin, saline, dexamethasone respectively, 32 rats in the experiment groups were exposed to the phosgene which the concentration was 8.33 mg/L and with 100% purity for 5 min. The lung wet/dry (W/D) weight ratio was calculated, and total protein content and BALF leukocyte count were detected. The immunohistochemistry was used to detect lung tissue protein expression MMP-9 while enzyme-linked immunosorbent method was employed to detect MMP-9 in serum levels and enzyme original gelatinases spectrum method to detect BALF MMP-9 enzyme original content., Results: Compared with A1, A2, A3, A4 group, the lung W/D, BALF of protein content and WBC count in B1 and B2 group rats were significantly increased, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.01). There was statistically significant difference in lung W/D, BALF of protein content and white blood cell count between B1,B2 group and the B3 and B4 rats (P < 0.01). Histological experimental results showed marked hyperemia of alveolar walls, thickening in the lungs, alveolar walls and stroma cells infiltrating and more visible alveolar structure damage in B1 and B2 rats while the alveolar structure, the alveolar walls were clear and slightly thickened with inflammatory cells in B3 and B4 rats. Immunohistochemical result showed that the individual rats, lung and bronchus organization MMP-9 protein were weakly positive, B1 and B2 group MMP-9 protein expression was strongly positive,B3 group and the group MMP B4 lung tissue protein expression-9 weakens, restored to the normal lung tissue of weakly positive expression level. ELISA and gelatinases spectrum testing showed B1 and B2 rats, serum MMP-9 enzyme activity and content increased compared with A1, A2, A3, A4 group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.01), and B1, B2 group compared with the B3 and serum B4 group MMP-9 enzyme activity and the differences were obviously decreased, with statistically significant difference (P < 0.01)., Conclusions: Ulinastatin has protective effect on phosgene-induced ALL Ulinastatin can inhibit the up-regulation of expression of MMP-9.

A series of chalcogenide glasses based on the composition Ge30 Ga5 Se65 (at. %) doped with the different Tm3+ ions were synthesized by melt-quenching technique. The refractive indexes, Raman spectra, absorption spectra, near-and mid-infrared fluorescence, and lifetimes of glass samples under 800 nm laser excitation were measured. The intensity parameters omega(i) (i = 2, 4, 6), transition probabilities, branching ratios and radiative lifetimes have been predicted for Tm3+ ions in samples by using the Judd-Ofelt theory. The near-infrared emission spectra at 1.23, 1.48 and 1.8 microm were observed and their quantum efficiencies were evaluated respectively in glass doped with 1 Wt% Tm(3+)-ions under 800 nm excitation. The mid-infrared fluorescence spectra were investigated with the different Tm3+ ion concentration under 800 nm excitation. The multiphonon relaxation rate of Tm3+ : 3 H5 --> 3F4 by the measured and calculated lifetimes, and the relative parameters of W(0) and a in Ge30 Ga5 Se65 glass were evaluated. Results show that the multiphonon relaxation rates were significantly lower than other glasses due to the lower maximum phonon energy, so the selenide glasses are promising as host materials for doping by rare earth ions and for preparation of mid-infrared optical elements.

Objective: To analyze the indication of arthroscope by examining the correlations between cartilage injury degree confirmed by MRI and postoperative effect., Methods: From Aug. 2005 to April 2008, 87 cases with knee osteoarthritis were treated by arthroscopes including 44 males and 43 females,aged from 16 to 67 years (means 46.3 years). Arthrodial cartilage of knee was graded by ICRS MR, and the therapeutic effect was evaluated by Lysholm scoring., Results: All 87 knees of 87 cases were followed-up for from 12 to 30 months (averaged 23 months). The cartilage injury degree of knees was graded as follows: grade 4 in 30 cases, grade 3 in 23 cases, grade 2 in 20 cases, grade 1 in 12 cases, grade 0 in 2 cases, means grade (2.770 +/- 1.138). Postoperative Lysholm score was from 59 to 100, means (95.170 +/- 7.556). Coefficient correlation (r) = -0.152, P = 0.159 > 0.05. Although the results had no correlations between cartilage injury degree and Lysholm score, negative correlation tendency existed., Conclusion: The patients with higher grade of knee cartilage injury degree confirmed by MRI (1.5T) have worse effect after operation, the grade is not a gold standard as a operation indication in arthroscopic procedure.

Objective: To introduce the methods of dacron flap application and its indications in treating fracture of multiple ribs, in order to reduce the incidence of the complications of fracture displacement., Methods: From September 2006 to March 2008, 12 patients with fracture of multiple ribs were treated with absorbable rib fixed nail and dacron flap. Included 8 males and 4 females,the age was from 22 to 51 years with an average of 38.2 years,the operative time was 2 hours to 3 days after injured. All the patients were closed injury and simultaneously accompanied with significant chest pain and chest tightness. 4 cases with dyspnea, blood in sputum and blood oxygen saturation decreased. The X-ray showed 3 cases of unilateral fracture and 9 cases of bilateral rib fractures and all cases accompanied with hemopneumothorax., Results: All patients were followed up from 2 to 26 months with an average of 8 months. All the fractures healed. According to clinical criteria, pain, breathing, ribs alignment etc. to observe the effect, 10 cases got excellent result, 1 case good, 1 case poor., Conclusion: It is safe and effective to use absorbable rib fixed nails and dacron flap for treating fracture of multiple ribs and especially for the patients of osteoporosis, comminuted fracture or oblique fracture.

Objective: To study the utility and effect of suturing menisci with epidural transfixion pin to treating acute meniscus tear under arthroscope., Methods: Twenty-two cases with acute meniscus tear were selected, in which 18 were male and 4 were female,aged from 17 to 42 years with average of 28.5. The tearing menisci were sutured with epidural transfixion pin and unabsorbed suture. The follow-up were 6-12 months after operation. Meanwhile, Lysholm score, subjective symptoms and examination were recorded., Results: Preoperative Lysholm scores were 46.72 +/- 13.46, whereas, postoperative ones were 89.43 +/- 18.21. There was significant difference between before and after operation (t = 1.85, P < 0.01). No recurrent interlocking, no pain in joint medialis and post-medialis space. McMurray test was negative. The complications about injury of blood vessel, nerves and tendons were not found during 6-12 months follow-up., Conclusion: The technique is advantageous in convenience, reliability, large suture strength and definite curative effect.

Objectives: To construct small interfering (siRNA) Sox9 expression plasmid and transfer it into human chondrosarcoma cells HTB-94, and to check the mRNA and protein expression of Sox9 and cell growth and apoptosis of HTB-94 human chondrosarcoma cells., Methods: siRNA(Sox9) expression plasmid was designed and synthesized. And it was transferred into HTB-94 human chondrosarcoma cells. Then the expression of the mRNA and protein of Sox9, cell growth and apoptosis in transferred HTB-94 human chondrosarcoma cells were checked., Results: The recombinant plasmid was confirmed by enzyme digestion analysis and DNA sequencing. The expression of the mRNA and protein expression of Sox9 in transferred HTB-94 were significantly reduced. The cell growth of HTB-94 was inhibited, and the apoptosis of HTB-94 was remarkably increased., Conclusion: siRNA (Sox9) expression plasmid could be transferred into HTB-94 human chondrosarcoma cells. And it can reduce the mRNA and protein expression of the HTB-94, inhibit the cell growth and cause the apoptosis of the tumor cells.

A continuous ethanol fermentation system composed of four-stage tank fermentors in series and with a total working volume of 4000 mL was established. The first fermentor was designated as the seed fermentor and the others for ethanol fermentation. A self-flocculating yeast strain developed by protoplast fusion of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Schizosaccharomyces pombe was applied. Two-stage corn powder enzymatic hydrolyzate containing reducing sugar 100 g/L, together with 2.0 g/L (NH4)2HPO4 and KH2PO4, was used as yeast seed culture medium and fed into the seed fermentor at the dilution rate of 0.017h (-1). Meanwhile, the hydrolyzate containing reducing sugar 220 g/L, added with 1.5 g/L (NH4)2HPO4 and 2.5 g/L KH2PO4, was used as ethanol fermentation substrate and fed into the second fermentor at the dilution rates of 0.017, 0.025, 0.033, 0.040 and 0.050 h(-1) (based on the total working volume of the three fermentors), respectively. The chemostat states on which all of the monitoring parameters, including residual sugar, ethanol and yeast cell biomass concentrations, were maintained relatively constant were observed for seed cultivation and ethanol fermentations when the fermentation system was operated at the dilution rates of 0.017, 0.025, 0.033 and 0.050 h(-1). Yeast cells were observed being partly immobilized because significant yeast cell biomass concentration differences between the broth out of and inside the fermentors were detected. Moreover, the oscillations of residual sugar, ethanol and yeast cell biomass concentrations were observed when the fermentation system was operated at the dilution rate of 0.040 h(-1). The broth containing more than 12% (V/V) ethanol and less than 0.11% (W/V) residual reducing sugar and 0.35% (W/V) residual total sugar was produced when the dilution rate was controlled at no more than 0.033 h(-1). The ethanol productivity was calculated to be 3.32(g x L(-1) x h(-1)) for the dilution rate of 0.033 h(-1), which increased nearly 100% compared with that for conventional ethanol fermentation technologies using freely suspended yeast cells.

Gerbil forebrain ischemia/reperfusion(I/R) injury model was used to study the effects of D(1) and D(2) receptor agonists and antagonists on neuronal apoptosis of hippocampal CA1 area. All animals were tested for habituation deficits in an open field test on the 1st, 3rd and 7th days after reperfusion. The animals were then killed, and brains underwent paraffin embedding for hematoxylin-eosin staining, in situ terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxy-UTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining and immunohistochemistry (bax, bcl-2). The result of open field test showed that the I/R group was significantly impaired (higher activity scores) when compared with the control group. Pretreatment with pergolide significantly reduced this habituation impairment. Forebrain ischemia for 5 min resulted in extensive CA1 apoptosis on the 3rd and 7th days after I/R injury. About 95% neurons in hippocampal CA1 area entered apoptosis and only 2%-7% pyramidal neurons stayed alive due to an inhibition of bcl-2 expression and an increase in bax expression. Pretreatment of pergolide attenuated neuronal damage caused by transient ischemia. Infusion of pergolide could induce the expression of bcl-2 and reduce the expression of bax. Pretreatment with SKF38393, SCH23390 and spiperone had no effects on these changes in this transient I/R injury model. All these results indicate that pergolide plays an important role in the protection of hippocampal neurons from apotosis through upregulating the expression of bcl-2 protein and reducing the expression of bax protein.
