Practical exercises should form an essential component of high-quality first aid courses. However, incorporating them into school curricula often encounters several challenges. Among the most prevalent issues are the insufficient availability of resources, primarily resuscitation mannequins, and the relatively large class sizes. These factors can result in limited space for effective hands-on exercises for every student within a single class session. To address this, one potential solution involves dividing the students into smaller groups. In this approach, the teacher can focus individually on guiding practical exercises for one group, while the remaining students engage in alternate activities, such as completing independent worksheets. The groups can subsequently rotate, ensuring that all students receive dedicated attention during the lesson. Consequently, the objective of our research was to develop a collection of educational tasks designed to be compiled into worksheets, facilitating independent work among students. We devised a total of nine distinct task types, presented in four different variations (yielding a total of 36 tasks), and organized them into four comprehensive worksheets. Subsequently, we evaluated the practicality of these worksheets through a trial involving 86 elementary school pupils. The assessment questionnaire indicated that the tasks were highly practical, comprehensible, suitably challenging, and relatively enjoyable, according to the feedback from the students. The paper contains more detailed information about the evaluation process, as well as a link to download all of the prepared worksheets, including the author’s solutions and methodological recommendations for teachers. The paper deals with the world religions paradigm (WRP) in education on religions in the Czech education. The paper summarizes the criticism of WRP in the study of religions. The WRP formed in the 19th century under strong influence of Christian theology and colonialism, there are no objective criteria for its defining, it is highly abstract, ahistorical and it leads to essentialism and normative understanding of religions. The analysis of framework education programmes reveals that the WRP is applied in this curricular documents. The framework programme for basic education covers Christianity, Judaism and Islam, while Christianity has a privileged position. Framework programme for secondary education connects religions with the concept of civilization circles. World religions, understood in essentialistic and highly abstract terms, represent a basis for culture circles. This concept corresponds with the model of world civilizations by S. P. Huntington. In this perspective, world civilizations are based on religious traditions of WRP. European civilization is founded on Christianity, other religions are represented as aliens. The WRP in framework programmes enables formation of stereotypes on religious traditions and identities.

This paper reflects the current situation of educational theory and practice, and it deals in particular with art lessons which show significant disproportion between theory and educational reality in schools. In the introduction, the reasons behind the opposing conceptions of the terms theory and practice are outlined andvarious philosophical approches introduced. The relationship between theory and practice in education is influenced by the fact that theoretical constructs tend to have rather normative character with the objective to be applied and to form the practice. In terms of having strained relationship between theory and practice, art lessons are no diff erent to other educational subjects. The paper further explains the impact of fine art and its theory on art lessons, and it also presents examples of the clash between theory and practice taken from the history of the subject. Current issues which preventthe implementation of theoretical findings into practice are non-parallel existence of both fields and deficiencies in knowledge base of teaching profession, which were detected in practice among art teachers and which were related to their knowledgeof both the curriculum and functional dictionary.

Scholarly understanding of educational effectiveness as a relationship between desired (expected) goals and achieved results is an extremely complex matter. If we start from the assumption that striving for the effectiveness of education is a correct and socially justified intention, we need to know the tools with which we can measure the effects of education and the result we want to get closer to. But what is the real point of geographic education? Who decides what is considered a desirable outcome? And is the effort to achieve the performances defined in educational standards the meaning of education? In Slovakia, there has been no national-level research dealing with determining the effectiveness of geographical education. In our article, we examine more thoroughly only one of the possible indicators of the effectiveness of geographical education, which is the level of conceptual (fundamental from the point of view of geography) knowledge achieved. This required creating a non-standardized didactic test tool and its application to a set of adult Slovak populations. The testing results showed a relatively high average success rate of solving the tasks by the respondents (72.48%). However, it should be emphasized that the questions mapped the most important topics and curriculum from the 5th year of elementary school. Of the individual thematic units, the respondents achieved the worst results in Cartography (61.78%) and Planetary Geography (68.22%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

21. The impact of marketisation on undergraduate curriculum in an English university: A Bernsteinian analysis

The context for this paper is the marketisation of higher education in England since the 1990s which has established the core mission of the university as primarily economic. Successive government policies have framed this mission as the generation of ‘useful’ knowledge and the supply of skilled graduates required by companies to compete in the ‘global economic race’. Higher education in the UK is now driven by a dynamic in which universities are required to compete for students in a quasimarket characterised by growing stratification and reduced state funding. This paper examines the impact of these changes in a case study of undergraduate curriculum in a university Business School. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews with academics who taught on undergraduate programmes together with a documentary analysis of texts such as module specifications, programme review documents and Business School strategy. Bernstein’s pedagogic theory and in particular his concept of recontextualisation was utilised to interpret the findings. It was found that market imperatives relating to the maximisation of income generation dominate the discourse in the Business School. As a result, pedagogical relations have become recontextualised as a form of product management accompanied by a range of unintended consequences.

This diploma thesis examines the use of the law as an instrument for the governance of the education system in the Czech Republic. It evaluates the impact some selected changes in legislation had on the education system during the period between 1990 and 2010. The topic of this paper is the law used as an instrument for implementing education policies in the Czech Republic, as well as monitoring of and evaluating objectives and reality. A section in the theoretical part is dedicated to defining and explaining the basic terms the author works with and uses throughout the text. The paper briefly analyses the development of changes within the school system in the course of the first twenty years that followed after the November overthrow in 1989. Key attempts to make changes in education and child-rearing are described, and the amendments to the Education Act or, if applicable, other legislation that impacted on the school system and education are examined. Not only does this paper summarize the key legislative reforms within the education process in the Czech Republic between 1990 and 2010, it also examines the education system from the curriculum documents' point of view - Primary School, General School and National School, the Framework Education Programme - as well as the school governance systems...

Následně jsou identifikovány související problémy – kritická místa obsahové transformace (tvorby a realizace kurikula), a to: (a) výběr, zdůvodnění a strukturování obsahu, (b) adaptace a sémantizace obsahu, (c) zvnitřnění a instrumentalizace obsahu. In the paper specific model of content transformation is introduced and served as an inspiration for research on critical issues in curriculum. Four levels (relevant for designing aims and contents of education) are differentiated: disciplines – curriculum – instruction – student. In the next step, three types of content transformation (ontodidactic – psychodidactic – cognitive) and three respective actors (curriculum maker – teacher – student) are differentiated. Based on analysis of curriculum development and implementation (realization) following critical issues are outlined: (a) content selection, justification and structuring, (b) content adaptation and meaning negotiating, (c) content internalization and usability. The paper contributes to highlighting curricular issues from the perspective of trans-disciplinary didactic which serves as basis for the semantic of teaching.

Central to contemporary revisions of curriculum are the questions of the relationship between factual and conceptual knowledge. In this paper we describe and compare the national curricular frameworks or content standards for primary history in three countries. Australia, England and United States of America are chosen as our sample as these countries recently revised their national frameworks, issued the new ones or the revision is under way. Our analysis shows some common trends: the increased centralisation and prescription in curricular policy, growing emphasis on (national) history in schools, return to chronological overviews and narration in primary history. The analysed documents, however, differ in the way how the factual knowledge is included and in relationship of primary to secondary history teaching (linear vs. cyclic).

The year 2007 marked the transition to a two-level system of educational documents for Czech education, which many described as a revolution. To this day, however, it is evident that for many schools and teachers this change took place only on paper, which also negatively affects the teaching of geography. This work provides an insight into the topics of working with school curriculum and teaching geography from the point of view of lower secondary education geography teachers. The theoretical part is devoted to the history and current system of Czech educational documents. The theory of geography teaching is also outlined. In the practical part, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 21 geography teachers, which made it possible to deepen the understanding of teaching geography and working with school curriculum. Due to the small number of interviewed teachers, the results cannot be considered representative, despite this, the work confirmed the formality of school curricula to a certain level. In many cases, the work of teachers and schools with school curriculum remains very shallow. The character of geography teaching contains significant differences among the teachers, the Czech educational system is highly differentiated. The research also pointed out the weak positions of human geography and fieldwork in the geography education at lower secondary education. The semi-structured interviews contained a total of 18 segments, 9 on working with school curriculum and 9 on selected aspects of geography teaching.

The focus of this paper is on the level of knowledge about providing the first aid by the pupils at the elementary schools in Mikulov region. The paper can be divided into two parts. The fist one deals with the research at the chosen elementary schools. I questioned altogether 92 boys and 86 girls at the age from eleven to fifteen years. The results of my research show that the children of this age usually do not know how to provide the first aid correctly and effectively. In the second part of my paper I tried to propose a new curriculum including the first aid training as its integral part.

The paper presents some methodological applications of design-basedresearch regarding the relation between managerial decision-making and the qualityof a school. With the support of the theoretical principles of decision-making andthe concept of a good school, we review the real eff ects of our decision-makingprocesses in the phase of constituting a school and developing the school curriculum. The project is a private, bilingual primary school. The quality of the decision-makingprocesses represents the basis of the quality of the school. During a 4 year period,we were observing and evaluating how the initial decisions were reviewed and changed during the cyclical process of analysis-design-evaluation-new design. Based on our process experience, we off er some interpretations which might contribute to wider understanding of decision-making processes of the management of schools. Concurrently, we make use of the research outputs to refine a practical solution tobenefit the surveyed school.

The study analyzes the implementation processes of Slovak curriculum reform and its consequences at the school mezzo level. The study assumes theoretical scopes of the foreign authors who realized successful school reforms and stated the order of the reform steps. It was compared with the situation in Slovakia. The paper analyzes the research findings of Faculty of Education UMB with the aim focusing on teachers’ perception of the curriculum reform processes, their approaches towards reform, their acceptance rate of the actual curriculum, their comprehension and interpretation of the reform changes and their experiences from the real implementation processes. The research methodology was conceived qualitatively and quantitatively. The quantitative methodology (the questionnaire IKR-2014 with a four-point Likert scale involved 954 teachers from 63 schools) was combined with qualitative methodology through content analyses of half-structured interviews with 25 teachers from five involved schools. Two groups of respondents were formed during the research − the group of teachers supporting the reform and the group of teachers refusing it. The searching for possible factors that caused reform rejection followed the comparison of these groups. The teachers rejecting further reforming changes showed negative approaches and opinions in almost all monitored research items, but it did not show that any factor was significantly dominant. Empirical results supported by qualitative analysis more likely proved that negative approaches were largely influenced by directive, unmanaged, hectic and formal implementation process of reform. This caused the negligence and mischief of the teachers, and their misunderstanding of meaningful reform changes. It led to teachers’ unwillingness to make such changes and take the responsibility for reform, and teachers did not feel like active developers as well.

The empirical study presents a research survey in the field of teaching quantitative data analysis as a part of research methodology in educational study programs of public universities in the Czech Republic. The survey is based on content analysis of 231 study subjects' syllabuses, a census survey gained in 2017. Although the results are restricted to the designed curriculum and bundled with many limits, they point to the fact that quantitative analytical training of future educationalists is mostly general, non-conceptual, often unqualified and does not reflect current trends. In the time of (re)accreditation of educational study programs the authors call for adaptation of quantitative analytical training on the level of pedagogical practice as well as academic sphere. The paper aims to contribute to informing the educational community about the current state of teaching in the given field and to open a discussion that would lead to conceptual adjustments of current study programs. © 2018 The Authors.

The thesis has a theoretical and empirical character. It deals with the motivation of the pupils learning the English language at the preparatory school and also with the general factors that affect the overall level of mastering this foreign language. The first part of the theoretical part is focused on the curricular documents (White paper, system of education). These documents contain important chapters about teaching the English language at the preparatory school. The second part is about the basic and main methods of learning foreign languages. The last part describes the pupils? motivation at school. A survey is related to the practical part. It was realized by the help of a questionnaire and a test. The received data inform us about the status of the school English in the comparison of what children can learn outside the school and how much is it important for their future improvement in the English language.

One of the key functions of the school is the enculturative function. The school presents one of the systematic organisations in which the members of the society meet cultural contents. These cultural contents take the form of subject matter which is systematised through curricular documents into educational fields, areas, subjects etc. The overview study concentrates on the relationship between (scientific) fields and school subjects. The authors discuss selected curricular issues, namely the problem of (non)correspondence between intended, realised and achieved curriculum. They also consider possible causes of the success/failure of Czech pupils in the international comparative surveys TIMSS and PISA. Towards the end of the paper, the necessity is argued to perceive educational research as the "critical friend" of the current curricular reform.
