Antibioticaresistentie is door de potentiële stijging in morbiditeit en mortaliteit een internationaal gezondheidsprobleem. Er zijn sterke aanwijzingen dat landen met een groter antibioticagebruik hogere resistentiecijfers hebben.1

Dit artikel beschrijft de performanties van een aantal commerciële lithium-ion batterijen voor gebruik in batterij aangedreven voertuigen zoals lithium-ijzerfosfaat (LFP), lithium-nikkel-mangaan-kobaltoxide (NMC), lithium-nikkelmangaan-aluminiumoxide en lithium-titanaatoxide (LTO) in de negatieve elektrode. In de analyse, worden de meest relevante parameters voorgesteld die een impact hebben op de batterij performanties. Zo ziet men dat NMC batterijen een aanzienlijke hoge energiedichtheid hebben (120 tot 160 Wh/kg) tegenover 70 tot 110 Wh/kg voor LFP, 90 Wh/kg voor NCA en 70 Whkg-1 voor LTO. Maar bij lage temperaturen (min18°C) blijken dan weer de LFPs en LTOs over de beste karakteristieken te beschikken. Daarnaast, hebben deze laatste batterijtechnologieën een betere levensduurprestatie (ongeveer 2000 cycli voor LFP en 5000 cycli voor LTO). In het artikel worden tevens de algemene karakteristieken van deze batterijen weergegeven op het vlak van state of charge estimatie, oplaadprestaties en prijsevoluties. Bovendien worden de opkomende ontwikkelingen zoals lithium-lucht batterijen toegelicht.

Malignant pure mesenchymal uterine tumours encompass endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS), uterine leiomyosarcoma (LMS) and undifferentiated sarcomas. The purpose of this review is to present the essential information on pathology, preoperative diagnosis and standard treatment of LMS and ESS. The latter refers to low-grade ESS and is distinctive from undifferentiated uterine sarcomas. Several features at ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging may raise suspicion of a uterine sarcoma; however, there are no pathognomonic features on any imaging technique. In early stage disease and both for ESS and LMS, hysterectomy with bilateral salpingooöphorectomy but without lymphadenectomy is the standard surgical treatment. The clinical benefit of chemotherapy is limited, underscoring the importance of targeted therapy. ESS and LMS are moving by different pathways resulting in a different clinical behaviour. ESS is typically a hormone sensitive tumour with an indolent growth. LMS is notorious for its aggressive growth and poor outcome. Individualisation of treatment remains mandatory since randomised trials are nearly non-existing. The progesterone and oestrogen receptors are clinically important targets for most primarily advanced or recurrent ESS and a subset of recurrent LMS. Specific problems in the treatment of the segmental fracture of the tibial shaft. The management, the postoperative problems and the functional results of 40 patients with 41 segmental fractures of the tibial shaft were reviewed. 63.4% of the fractures were open and 75% of the patients had one or more associated lesions. All fractures were treated operatively: 23 (56.1%) with a single or double plate osteosynthesis and 18 (43.9%) with an external fixator. 37 fractures could be followed-up until bony consolidation. The postoperative problems of each stabilization method are discussed. A pseudarthrosis is seen in 18.9% and a deep infection in 10.8% of the patients. A good functional result could be obtained in 78.4%. The segmental fracture of the tibial shaft is connected with specific biomechanical and fracture healing problems. The vascularization of the intermediate fragment is severely disturbed by the trauma itself and may surely not be endangered secondarily by the operative procedure.
