Sleep monitoring has become a prevalent area of research where body position and physiological data, such as heart rate and respiratory rate, are monitored. Numerous critical health problems are associated with poor sleep, such as pressure sore development, sleep disorders, and low sleep quality, which can lead to an increased risk of falls, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity. Current monitoring systems can be costly, laborious, and taxing on hospital resources. This paper reviews the most recent solutions for contactless textile technology in the form of bed sheets or mats to monitor body positions, vital signs, and sleep, both commercially and in the literature. This paper is organized into four categories: body position and movement monitoring, physiological monitoring, sleep monitoring, and commercial products. A detailed performance evaluation was carried out, considering the detection accuracy as well as the sensor types and algorithms used. Due to the increasing cost of health insurance, for decades, many countries have endeavored to constrain the cost of insurance by utilizing a DRG payment system. In most cases, under the DRG payment system, hospitals cannot exactly know which DRG code inpatients are until they are discharged. This paper focuses on the prediction of what DRG code appendectomy patients will be classified with when they are admitted to hospital. We utilize two models (or classifiers) constructed using the C4.5 algorithm and back-propagation neural network (BPN). We conducted experiments with the data collected from two hospitals. The results show that the accuracies of these two classification models can be up to 97.84% and 98.70%, respectively. According to the predicted DRG code, hospitals can effectively arrange medical resources with certainty, then, in turn, improve the quality of the medical care patients receive. In the epoch characterized by the anticipation of autonomous vehicles, the quality of the embedded system software, its reliability, safety, and security is significant. The testing of embedded software is an increasingly significant element of the development process. The application of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms in the process of testing embedded software in vehicles constitutes a significant area of both research and practical consideration, arising from the escalating complexity of these systems. This paper presents the preliminary development of the AVESYS framework which facilitates the application of open-source artificial intelligence algorithms in the embedded system testing process. The aim of this work is to evaluate its effectiveness in identifying anomalies in the test environment that could potentially affect testing results. The raw data from the test environment, mainly communication signals and readings from temperature, as well as current and voltage sensors are pre-processed and used to train machine learning models. With the exponential growth of data, solving classification or regression tasks by mining time series data has become a research hotspot. Commonly used methods include machine learning, artificial neural networks, and so on. However, these methods only extract the continuous or discrete features of sequences, which have the drawbacks of low information utilization, poor robustness, and computational complexity. To solve these problems, this paper innovatively uses Wasserstein distance instead of Kullback–Leibler divergence and uses it to construct an autoencoder to learn discrete features of time series. Then, a hidden Markov model is used to learn the continuous features of the sequence. Finally, stacking is used to ensemble the two models to obtain the final model. Simple Summary: In radiotherapy treatment, organs at risk and target volumes are contoured by the clinicians to prepare a dosimetry plan. In retrospective data, these structures are not often standardised to universal names across the patients plans, which is required to enable data mining and analysis. In this paper, a new method was proposed and evaluated to automatically standardise radiotherapy structures names using machine learning algorithms. The proposed approach was deployed over a dataset with 1613 patients collected from Liverpool & Macarthur Cancer Therapy Centres, New South Wales, Australia. It was concluded that machine learning techniques can standardise the dosimetry plan structures, taking into consideration the integration of multiple modalities representing each structure during the training process. In progressing the use of big data in health systems, standardised nomenclature is required to enable data pooling and analyses. In many radiotherapy planning systems and their data archives, target volumes (TV) and organ-at-risk (OAR) structure nomenclature has not been standardised. Machine learning (ML) has been utilised to standardise volumes nomenclature in retrospective datasets. However, only subsets of the structures have been targeted. Within this paper, we proposed a new approach for standardising all the structures nomenclature by using multi-modal artificial neural networks. A cohort consisting of 1613 breast cancer patients treated with radiotherapy was identified from Liverpool & Macarthur Cancer Therapy Centres, NSW, Australia. Four types of volume characteristics were generated to represent each target and OAR volume: textual features, geometric features, dosimetry features, and imaging data. Five datasets were created from the original cohort, the first four represented different subsets of volumes and the last one represented the whole list of volumes. For each dataset, 15 sets of combinations of features were generated to investigate the effect of using different characteristics on the standardisation performance. The best model reported 99.416% classification accuracy over the hold-out sample when used to standardise all the nomenclatures in a breast cancer radiotherapy plan into 21 classes. Our results showed that ML based automation methods can be used for standardising naming conventions in a radiotherapy plan taking into consideration the inclusion of multiple modalities to better represent each volume. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the current state of AI-based techniques used in combination with non-invasive diagnostic imaging modalities including reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM), optical coherence tomography (OCT), and dermoscopy. We also aimed to determine whether the application of AI-based techniques can lead to improved diagnostic accuracy of melanoma. Methods: A systematic search was conducted via the Medline/PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase databases for eligible publications between 2018 and 2022. Screening methods adhered to the 2020 version of the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. Included studies utilized AI-based algorithms for melanoma detection and directly addressed the review objectives. Results: We retrieved 40 papers amongst the three databases. All studies directly comparing the performance of AI-based techniques with dermatologists reported the superior or equivalent performance of AI-based techniques in improving the detection of melanoma. In studies directly comparing algorithm performance on dermoscopy images to dermatologists, AI-based algorithms achieved a higher ROC (>80%) in the detection of melanoma. In these comparative studies using dermoscopic images, the mean algorithm sensitivity was 83.01% and the mean algorithm specificity was 85.58%. Studies evaluating machine learning in conjunction with OCT boasted accuracy of 95%, while studies evaluating RCM reported a mean accuracy rate of 82.72%. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate the robust potential of AI-based techniques to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes through the early identification of melanoma. Further studies are needed to assess the generalizability of these AI-based techniques across different populations and skin types, improve standardization in image processing, and further compare the performance of AI-based techniques with board-certified dermatologists to evaluate clinical applicability. Glioma is the most common type of tumor in humans originating in the brain. According to the World Health Organization, gliomas can be graded on a four-stage scale, ranging from the most benign to the most malignant. The grading of these tumors from image information is a far from trivial task for radiologists and one in which they could be assisted by machine-learning-based decision support. However, the machine learning analytical pipeline is also fraught with perils stemming from different sources, such as inadvertent data leakage, adequacy of 2D image sampling, or classifier assessment biases. In this paper, we analyze a glioma database sourced from multiple datasets using a simple classifier, aiming to obtain a reliable tumor grading and, on the way, we provide a few guidelines to ensure such reliability. Our results reveal that by focusing on the tumor region of interest and using data augmentation techniques we significantly enhanced the accuracy and confidence in tumor classifications. Evaluation on an independent test set resulted in an AUC-ROC of 0.932 in the discrimination of low-grade gliomas from high-grade gliomas, and an AUC-ROC of 0.893 in the classification of grades 2, 3, and 4. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurological condition that is chronic and worsens over time, which presents a challenging diagnosis. An accurate diagnosis is required to recognize PD patients from healthy individuals. Diagnosing PD at early stages can reduce the severity of this disorder and improve the patient's living conditions. Algorithms based on associative memory (AM) have been applied in PD diagnosis using voice samples of patients with this health condition. Even though AM models have achieved competitive results in PD classification, they do not have any embedded component in the AM model that can identify and remove irrelevant features, which would consequently improve the classification performance. In this paper, we present an improvement to the smallest normalized difference associative memory (SNDAM) algorithm by means of a learning reinforcement phase that improves classification performance of SNDAM when it is applied to PD diagnosis. For the experimental phase, two datasets that have been widely applied for PD diagnosis were used. Both datasets were gathered from voice samples from healthy people and from patients who suffer from this condition at an early stage of PD. These datasets are publicly accessible in the UCI Machine Learning Repository. The efficiency of the ISNDAM model was contrasted with that of seventy other models implemented in the WEKA workbench and was compared to the performance of previous studies. A statistical significance analysis was performed to verify that the performance differences between the compared models were statistically significant. The experimental findings allow us to affirm that the proposed improvement in the SNDAM algorithm, called ISNDAM, effectively increases the classification performance compared against well-known algorithms. ISNDAM achieves a classification accuracy of 99.48%, followed by ANN Levenberg–Marquardt with 95.89% and SVM RBF kernel with 88.21%, using Dataset 1. In the intelligent transformation of spraying operations, the investigation into the robotic spraying process holds significant importance. The spraying process, however, falls within the realm of experience-driven technology, characterized by high complexity, diverse parameters, and coupling effects. Moreover, the quality of manual spraying processes relies entirely on manual experience. Thus, the crux of the intelligent transformation of spraying robots lies in establishing a mapping model between the spraying process and the resultant spraying quality. To address the challenge of intelligently transforming empirical spraying processes and achieving the mapping from the spraying process to spraying quality, an algorithm employing an enhanced extreme learning machine-based neural network is proposed for predicting spraying process parameters with respect to the evaluation index of spraying quality. In this approach, an algorithmic model based on the Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) neural network is initially constructed utilizing five spraying process parameters: spraying speed, spraying height, spraying width pressure, atomization pressure, and oil spraying pressure. Two spraying quality evaluation indexes, namely average film thickness at the center point and surface roughness, are also incorporated. Subsequently, the prediction neural network is optimized using the K-means improved predator optimization algorithm (KHPO) to enhance the model's prediction accuracy. This optimization step aims to improve the efficiency of the model in predicting spraying quality based on the specified process parameters. Finally, data collection and model validation for the spraying quality prediction algorithm are conducted using a designed robotic automated waterborne paint spraying experimental system. The experimental results demonstrate a significant reduction in the prediction error of the KHPO-ELM neural network model for the average film thickness center point, showcasing a decrease of 61.95% in comparison to the traditional ELM neural network and 50.81% in comparison to the BP neural network. Likewise, the improved neural network model yields a 2.31% decrease in surface roughness prediction error compared to the traditional ELM neural network and a substantial 54.0% reduction compared to the BP neural network. Consequently, the KHPO-ELM neural network, incorporating the prediction algorithm, effectively facilitates the prediction of multi-spraying process parameters for the center point of average film thickness and surface roughness in automated robot spraying. Medical image semantic segmentation is essential in computer-aided diagnosis systems. It can separate tissues and lesions in the image and provide valuable information to radiologists and doctors. The breast ultrasound (BUS) images have advantages: no radiation, low cost, portable, etc. However, there are two unfavorable characteristics: (1) the dataset size is often small due to the difficulty in obtaining the ground truths, and (2) BUS images are usually in poor quality. Trustworthy BUS image segmentation is urgent in breast cancer computer-aided diagnosis systems, especially for fully understanding the BUS images and segmenting the breast anatomy, which supports breast cancer risk assessment. The main challenge for this task is uncertainty in both pixels and channels of the BUS images. In this paper, we propose a Spatial and Channel-wise Fuzzy Uncertainty Reduction Network (SCFURNet) for BUS image semantic segmentation. The proposed architecture can reduce the uncertainty in the original segmentation frameworks. We apply the proposed method to four datasets: (1) a five-category BUS image dataset with 325 images, and (2) three BUS image datasets with only tumor category (1830 images in total). The proposed approach compares state-of-the-art methods such as U-Net with VGG-16, ResNet-50/ResNet-101, Deeplab, FCN-8s, PSPNet, U-Net with information extension, attention U-Net, and U-Net with the self-attention mechanism. It achieves 2.03%, 1.84%, and 2.88% improvements in the Jaccard index on three public BUS datasets, and 6.72% improvement in the tumor category and 4.32% improvement in the overall performance on the five-category dataset compared with that of the original U-shape network with ResNet-101 since it can handle the uncertainty effectively and efficiently. The number of diabetic patients is increasing yearly worldwide, requiring the need for a quick intervention to help these people. Mortality rates are higher for diabetic patients with other serious health complications. Thus, early prediction for such diseases positively impacts healthcare quality and can prevent serious health complications later. This paper constructs an efficient prediction system for predicting diabetes in its early stage. The proposed system starts with a Local Outlier Factor (LOF)-based outlier detection technique to detect outlier data. A Balanced Bagging Classifier (BBC) technique is used to balance data distribution. Finally, integration between association rules and classification algorithms is used to develop a prediction model based on real data. Four classification algorithms were utilized in addition to an a priori algorithm that discovered relationships between various factors. The named algorithms are Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Decision Trees (DT), Support Vector Machines (SVM), and K Nearest Neighbor (KNN) for data classification. Results revealed that KNN provided the highest accuracy of 97.36% compared to the other applied algorithms. An a priori algorithm extracted association rules based on the Lift matrix. Vehicle fault detection and diagnosis (VFDD) along with predictive maintenance (PdM) are indispensable for early diagnosis in order to prevent severe accidents due to mechanical malfunction in urban environments. This paper proposes an early voiceprint driving fault identification system using machine learning algorithms for classification. Previous studies have examined driving fault identification, but less attention has focused on using voiceprint features to locate corresponding faults. This research uses 43 different common vehicle mechanical malfunction condition voiceprint signals to construct the dataset. These datasets were filtered by linear predictive coefficient (LPC) and wavelet transform(WT). After the original voiceprint fault sounds were filtered and obtained the main fault characteristics, the deep neural network (DNN), convolutional neural network (CNN), and long short-term memory (LSTM) architectures are used for identification. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the CNN algorithm is the best for the LPC dataset. In addition, for the wavelet dataset, DNN has the best performance in terms of identification performance and training time. After cross-comparison of experimental results, the wavelet algorithm combined with DNN can improve the identification accuracy by up to 16.57% compared with other deep learning algorithms and reduce the model training time by up to 21.5% compared with other algorithms. Realizing the cross-comparison of recognition results through various machine learning methods, it is possible for the vehicle to proactively remind the driver of the real-time potential hazard of vehicle machinery failure. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is considered as one of the most widely used wireless identification technologies in the Internet of Things. Many application areas require a dense RFID network for efficient deployment and coverage, which causes interference between RFID tags and readers, and reduces the performance of the RFID system. Therefore, communication resource management is required to avoid such problems. In this paper, we propose an anti-collision protocol based on feed-forward Artificial Neural Network methodology for distributed learning between RFID readers to predict collisions and ensure efficient resource allocation (DMLAR) by considering the mobility of tags and readers. The evaluation of our anti-collision protocol is performed for different mobility scenarios in healthcare where the collected data are critical and must respect the terms of throughput, delay, overload, integrity and energy. The dataset created and distributed by the readers allows an efficient learning process and, therefore, a high collision detection to increase throughput and minimize data loss. In the application phase, the readers do not need to exchange control packets with each other to control the resource allocation, which avoids network overload and communication delay. Simulation results show the robustness and effectiveness of the anti-collision protocol by the number of readers and resources used. Featured Application: The transfer strategies proposed in this paper can guide the industry to reuse and develop the existing PHM algorithm based on deep learning under different data conditions and save the cost of algorithm development and data collection to the greatest extent. As we enter the era of big data, we have to face big data generated by industrial systems that are massive, diverse, high-speed, and variability. In order to effectively deal with big data possessing these characteristics, deep learning technology has been widely used. However, the existing methods require great human involvement that is heavily depend on domain expertise and may thus be non-representative and biased from task to similar task, so for a wide variety of prognostic and health management (PHM) tasks, how to apply the developed deep learning algorithms to similar tasks to reduce the amount of development and data collection costs has become an urgent problem. Based on the idea of transfer learning and the structures of deep learning PHM algorithms, this paper proposes two transfer strategies via transferring different elements of deep learning PHM algorithms, analyzes the possible transfer scenarios in practical application, and proposes transfer strategies applicable in each scenario. At the end of this paper, the deep learning algorithm of bearing fault diagnosis based on convolutional neural networks (CNN) is transferred based on the proposed method, which was carried out under different working conditions and for different objects, respectively. In this study, we demonstrate the viability of applying artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to conduct inspections at the OLED cell level using simulated data. The implementation of AI technologies necessitates training data, which we addressed by generating an OLED dataset via our proprietary A2G algorithm, integrating the finite element method among concerns over data security. Our A2G algorithm is designed to produce time-dependent datasets and establish threshold conditions for the expansion of dark spots based on OLED parameters and predicted lifespan. We explored the potential integration of AI in the inspection phase, performing cell-based evaluations using three distinct convolutional neural network models. The test results yielded a promising 95% recognition rate when classifying OLED data into pass and fail categories, demonstrating the practical effectiveness of this approach. Through this research, we not only confirmed the feasibility of using simulated OLED data in place of actual data but also highlighted the potential for the automation of manual inspection processes. Furthermore, by introducing OLED defect detection models at the cell level, as opposed to the traditional panel level during inspections, we anticipate higher classification rates and improved yield. Featured Application: The proposed classification models could be adapted to develop a recirculating aquaculture system with continuous variable-flow control technology. A recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) can reduce water and land requirements for intensive aquaculture production. However, a traditional RAS uses a fixed circulation flow rate for water treatment. In general, the water in an RAS is highly turbid only when the animals are fed and when they excrete. Therefore, RAS water quality regulation technology based on process control is proposed in this paper. The intelligent variable-flow RAS was designed based on the circulating pump-drum filter linkage working model. Machine learning methods were introduced to develop the intelligent regulation model to maintain a clean and stable water environment. Results showed that the long short-term memory network performed with the highest accuracy (training set 100%, test set 96.84%) and F1-score (training 100%, test 93.83%) among artificial neural networks. Optimization methods including grid search, cuckoo search, linear squares, and gene algorithm were proposed to improve the classification ability of support vector machine models. Results showed that all support vector machine models passed cross-validation and could meet accuracy standards. In summary, the gene algorithm support vector machine model (accuracy: training 100%, test 98.95%; F1-score: training 100%, test 99.17%) is suitable as an optimal variable-flow regulation model for an intelligent variable-flow RAS. The digital transformation of the energy sector toward the Smart Grid paradigm, intelligent energy management, and distributed energy integration poses new requirements for computer science. Issues related to the automation of power grid management, multidimensional analysis of data generated in Smart Grids, and optimization of decision-making processes require urgent solutions. The article aims to analyze the use of selected artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to support the abovementioned issues. In particular, machine learning methods, metaheuristic algorithms, and intelligent fuzzy inference systems were analyzed. Examples of the analyzed algorithms were tested in crucial domains of the energy sector. The study analyzed cybersecurity, Smart Grid management, energy saving, power loss minimization, fault diagnosis, and renewable energy sources. For each domain of the energy sector, specific engineering problems were defined, for which the use of artificial intelligence algorithms was analyzed. Research results indicate that AI algorithms can improve the processes of energy generation, distribution, storage, consumption, and trading. During the last years, highly-recognized computational intelligence techniques have been proposed to treat classification problems. These automatic learning approaches lead to the most recent researches because they exhibit outstanding results. Nevertheless, to achieve this performance, artificial learning methods firstly require fine tuning of their parameters and then they need to work with the best-generated model. This process usually needs an expert user for supervising the algorithm's performance. In this paper, we propose an optimized Extreme Learning Machine by using the Bat Algorithm, which boosts the training phase of the machine learning method to increase the accuracy, and decreasing or keeping the loss in the learning phase. To evaluate our proposal, we use the Parkinson's Disease audio dataset taken from UCI Machine Learning Repository. Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects over 10 million people. Although its diagnosis is through motor symptoms, it is possible to evidence the disorder through variations in the speech using machine learning techniques. Results suggest that using the bio-inspired optimization algorithm for adjusting the parameters of the Extreme Learning Machine is a real alternative for improving its performance. Object curvature plays an important role in grasping and manipulation. To be more exact, local curvature is a more useful information for grasping practically. Vision and touch are the two main methods to extract surface curvature of an object, but vision is often limited since the complete contact area is invisible during manipulation. In this paper, the authors propose an object curvature estimation method based on an artificial neural network algorithm through a lab-developed sparse tactile sensor array. The compliant layer covering on the sensor is indispensable for fitting the curved surface. Three types (plane, convex sphere, and convex cylinder) of sample and each type of sample including 30 different radiuses (1 mm to 30 mm) were used in the experiment. The overall classification accuracy was 93.1%. The average curvature radius estimating error based on an artificial neural network (ANN) algorithm was 1.87 mm. When the radius of curvature was bigger than 5 mm, the average relative error was smaller than 20%. As a comparison, the sensor array density we used in this paper was less than 9/cm2, which was smaller than the density of human SAII receptors, but the discrimination result was close to the SAII receptors. The problems of the neural network-based nonuniformity correction algorithm for infrared focal plane arrays mainly concern slow convergence speed and ghosting artifacts. In general, the more stringent the inhibition of ghosting, the slower the convergence speed. The factors that affect these two problems are the estimated desired image and the learning rate. In this paper, we propose a learning rate rule that combines adaptive threshold edge detection and a temporal gate. Through the noise estimation algorithm, the adaptive spatial threshold is related to the residual nonuniformity noise in the corrected image. The proposed learning rate is used to effectively and stably suppress ghosting artifacts without slowing down the convergence speed. The performance of the proposed technique was thoroughly studied with infrared image sequences with both simulated nonuniformity and real nonuniformity. The results show that the deghosting performance of the proposed method is superior to that of other neural network-based nonuniformity correction algorithms and that the convergence speed is equivalent to the tested deghosting methods. Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are nowadays applied as the most efficient methods in the majority of machine learning approaches, including data-driven modeling for assessment of the toxicity of chemicals. We developed a combined neural network methodology that can be used in the scope of new approach methodologies (NAMs) assessing chemical or drug toxicity. Here, we present QSAR models for predicting the physical and biochemical properties of molecules of three different datasets: aqueous solubility, acute fish toxicity toward fat head minnow, and bio-concentration factors. A novel neural network modeling method is developed by combining two neural network algorithms, namely, the counter-propagation modeling strategy (CP-ANN) with the back-propagation-of-errors algorithm (BPE-ANN). The advantage is a short training time, robustness, and good interpretability through the initial CP-ANN part, while the extension with BPE-ANN improves the precision of predictions in the range between minimal and maximal property values of the training data, regardless of the number of neurons in both neural networks, either CP-ANN or BPE-ANN. Male infertility is a relevant public health problem, but there is no systematic review of the different machine learning (ML) models and their accuracy so far. The present review aims to comprehensively investigate the use of ML algorithms in predicting male infertility, thus reporting the accuracy of the used models in the prediction of male infertility as a primary outcome. Particular attention will be paid to the use of artificial neural networks (ANNs). A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Science Direct between 15 July and 23 October 2023, conducted under the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. We performed a quality assessment of the included studies using the recommended tools suggested for the type of study design adopted. We also made a screening of the Risk of Bias (RoB) associated with the included studies. Thus, 43 relevant publications were included in this review, for a total of 40 different ML models detected. The studies included reported a good quality, even if RoB was not always good for all the types of studies. The included studies reported a median accuracy of 88% in predicting male infertility using ML models. Capability assessment plays a crucial role in the demonstration and construction of equipment. To improve the accuracy and stability of capability assessment, we study the neural network learning algorithms in the field of capability assessment and index sensitivity. Aiming at the problem of overfitting and parameter optimization in neural network learning, the paper proposes an improved machine learning algorithm—the Ensemble Learning Based on Policy Optimization Neural Networks (ELPONN) with the policy optimization and ensemble learning. This algorithm presents an optimized neural network learning algorithm through different strategies evolution, and builds an ensemble learning model of multi-intelligent algorithms to assess the capability and analyze the sensitivity of the indexes. Through the assessment of capabilities, the algorithm effectively avoids parameter optimization from entering the minimum point in performance to improve the accuracy of equipment capability assessment, which is significantly better than previous neural network assessment methods. Objective: This research addresses the challenges of maintaining proper yoga postures, an issue that has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent shift to virtual platforms for yoga instruction. This research aims to develop a mechanism for detecting correct yoga poses and providing real-time feedback through the application of computer vision and machine learning (ML) techniques. Methods and Procedures: This study utilized computer vision-based pose estimation methods to extract features and calculate yoga pose angles. A variety of models, including extremely randomized trees, logistic regression, random forest, gradient boosting, extreme gradient boosting, and deep neural networks, were trained and tested to classify yoga poses. Our study employed the Yoga-82 dataset, consisting of many yoga pose images downloaded from the web. Results: The results of this study show that the extremely randomized trees model outperformed the other models, achieving the highest prediction accuracy of 91% on the test dataset and 92% in a fivefold cross-validation experiment. Other models like random forest, gradient boosting, extreme gradient boosting, and deep neural networks achieved accuracies of 90%, 89%, 90%, and 85%, respectively, while logistic regression underperformed, having the lowest accuracy. Conclusion: This research concludes that the extremely randomized trees model presents superior predictive power for yoga pose recognition. This suggests a valuable avenue for future exploration in this domain. Detecting changes in soil micro-relief in farmland helps to understand degradation processes like sheet erosion. Using the high-resolution technique of terrestrial laser scanning (TLS), we generated point clouds of three 2 × 3 m plots on a weekly basis from May to mid-June in 2022 on cultivated farmland in Germany. Three well-known applications for eliminating vegetation points in the generated point cloud were tested: Cloth Simulation Filter (CSF) as a filtering method, three variants of CANUPO as a machine learning method, and ArcGIS PointCNN as a deep learning method, a sub-category of machine learning using deep neural networks. We assessed the methods with hard criteria such as F1 score, balanced accuracy, height differences, and their standard deviations to the reference surface, resulting in data gaps and robustness, and with soft criteria such as time-saving capacity, accessibility, and user knowledge. All algorithms showed a low performance at the initial measurement epoch, increasing with later epochs. While most of the results demonstrate a better performance of ArcGIS PointCNN, this algorithm revealed an exceptionally low performance in plot 1, which is describable by the generalization gap. Since the WHO's 2021 aging redefinition emphasizes "healthy aging" by focusing on the elderly's ability to perform daily activities, sarcopenia, which is defined as the loss of skeletal muscle mass, is now becoming a critical health concern, especially in South Korea with a rapidly aging population. Therefore, we develop a prediction model for sarcopenia by using machine learning (ML) techniques based on the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) data 2008–2011, in which we focus on the role of socioeconomic status (SES), social infrastructure, and quality of life (QoL) in the prevalence of sarcopenia. We successfully identify sarcopenia with approximately 80% accuracy by using random forest (RF) and LightGBM (LGB), CatBoost (CAT), and a deep neural network (DNN). For prediction reliability, we achieve area under curve (AUC) values of 0.831, 0.868, and 0.773 for both genders, males, and females, respectively. Especially when using only male data, all the models consistently exhibit better performance overall. Furthermore, using the SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) analysis, we find several common key features, which mainly contribute to model building. These include SES features, such as monthly household income, housing type, marriage status, and social infrastructure accessibility. Furthermore, the causal relationships of household income, per capita neighborhood sports facility area, and life satisfaction are analyzed to establish an effective prediction model for sarcopenia management in an aging population. This paper presents a stochastic inference problem suited to a classification approach in a time-varying observation model with continuous-valued unknown parameterization. The utilization of an artificial neural network (ANN)-based classifier is considered, and the concept of a training process via the backpropagation algorithm is used. The main objective is the minimization of resources required for the training of the classifier in the parametric observation model. To reach this, it is proposed that the weights of the ANN classifier vary continuously with the change of the observation model parameters. This behavior is then used in an update-based backpropagation algorithm. This proposed idea is demonstrated on several procedures, which re-use previously trained weights as prior information when updating the classifier after a channel phase change. This approach successfully saves resources needed for re-training the ANN. Portal hypertension is a complex medical condition characterized by elevated blood pressure in the portal venous system. The conventional diagnosis of such disease often involves invasive procedures such as liver biopsy, endoscopy, or imaging techniques with contrast agents, which can be uncomfortable for patients and carry inherent risks. This study presents a deep neural network method in support of the non-invasive diagnosis of portal hypertension in patients with chronic liver diseases. The proposed method utilizes readily available clinical data, thus eliminating the need for invasive procedures. A dataset composed of standard laboratory parameters is used to train and validate the deep neural network regressor. The experimental results exhibit reasonable performance in distinguishing patients with portal hypertension from healthy individuals. Such performances may be improved by using larger datasets of high quality. The main goal of the present study is to investigate the capability of hybridizing the imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) with an intelligent, robust, and data-driven technique named the light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM) to estimate the compressive strength of geo-polymer concrete (CSGCo). The hyper-parameters of the LightGBM algorithm have been optimized based on ICA and its accuracy improved. The obtained results from the proposed hybrid ICA-LightGBM are compared with the traditional LightGBM model as well as four different topologies of artificial neural networks (ANN) comprising a multi-layer perceptron neural network (MLP), radial basis function (RBF), generalized feed-forward neural network (GFFNN), and Bayesian regularized neural network (BRNN). The results of these models were compared based on three evaluation indices of R2, RMSE, and VAF for providing an objective evaluation of the performance and capability of the predictive models. Concerning the outcomes, the ICA-LightGBM with the R2 of (0.9871 and 0.9805), RMSE of (0.4703 and 1.3137), and VAF of (98.5773 and 98.0397) for training and testing phases, respectively, was a superior predictor to estimate the CSGCo compared to the LightGBM with the R2 of (0.9488 and 0.9478), RMSE of (0.9532 and 2.1631), and VAF of (94.3613 and 94.5173); the MLP with the R2 of (0.9067 and 0.8959), RMSE of (1.3093 and 3.3648), and VAF of (88.9888 and 84.9125); the RBF with the R2 of (0.8694 and 0.8055), RMSE of (1.4703 and 5.0309), and VAF of (86.3122 and 66.1888); the BRNN with the R2 of (0.9212 and 0.9107), RMSE of (1.1510 and 2.6569), and VAF of (91.4168 and 90.5854); and the GFFNN with the R2 of (0.9144 and 0.8925), RMSE of (1.1525 and 2.9415), and VAF of (91.4092 and 88.9088). The Saudi population is at high risk of multimorbidity. The risk of these morbidities can be reduced by identifying common modifiable behavioural risk factors. This study uses statistical and machine learning methods to predict factors for multimorbidity in the Saudi population. Data from 23,098 Saudi residents were extracted from the "Sharik" Health Indicators Surveillance System 2021. Participants were asked about their demographics and health indicators. Binary logistic models were used to determine predictors of multimorbidity. A backpropagation neural network model was further run using the predictors from the logistic regression model. Accuracy measures were checked using training, validation, and testing data. Females and smokers had the highest likelihood of experiencing multimorbidity. Age and fruit consumption also played a significant role in predicting multimorbidity. Regarding model accuracy, both logistic regression and backpropagation algorithms yielded comparable outcomes. The backpropagation method (accuracy 80.7%) was more accurate than the logistic regression model (77%). Machine learning algorithms can be used to predict multimorbidity among adults, particularly in the Middle East region. Different testing methods later validated the common predicting factors identified in this study. The purpose of this study is to explore how machine learning technologies can improve healthcare operations management. A machine learning-based model to solve a specific medical problem is developed to achieve this research purpose. Specifically, this study presents an AI solution for malaria infection diagnosis by applying the CNN (convolutional neural network) algorithm. Based on malaria microscopy image data from the NIH National Library of Medicine, a total of 24,958 images were used for deep learning training, and 2600 images were selected for final testing of the proposed diagnostic architecture. The empirical results indicate that the CNN diagnostic model correctly classified most malaria-infected and non-infected cases with minimal misclassification, with performance metrics of precision (0.97), recall (0.99), and f1-score (0.98) for uninfected cells, and precision (0.99), recall (0.97), and f1-score (0.98) for parasite cells. The CNN diagnostic solution rapidly processed a large number of cases with a high reliable accuracy of 97.81%. The performance of this CNN model was further validated through the k-fold cross-validation test. These results suggest the advantage of machine learning-based diagnostic methods over conventional manual diagnostic methods in improving healthcare operational capabilities in terms of diagnostic quality, processing costs, lead time, and productivity. In addition, a machine learning diagnosis system is more likely to enhance the financial profitability of healthcare operations by reducing the risk of unnecessary medical disputes related to diagnostic errors. Pattern sequence-based models are a type of forecasting algorithm that utilizes clustering and other techniques to produce easily interpretable predictions faster than traditional machine learning models. This research focuses on their application in energy demand forecasting and introduces two significant contributions to the field. Firstly, this study evaluates the use of pattern sequence-based models with large datasets. Unlike previous works that use only one dataset or multiple datasets with less than two years of data, this work evaluates the models in three different public datasets, each containing eleven years of data. Secondly, we propose a new pattern sequence-based algorithm that uses a genetic algorithm to optimize the number of clusters alongside all other hyperparameters of the forecasting method, instead of using the Cluster Validity Indices (CVIs) commonly used in previous proposals. The results indicate that neural networks provide more accurate results than any pattern sequence-based algorithm and that our proposed algorithm outperforms other pattern sequence-based algorithms, albeit with a longer training time. Effortful control (EC) is a dimension of temperament that encompass individual differences in self-regulation and the control of reactivity. Much research suggests that EC has a strong foundation on the development of executive attention, but increasing evidence also shows a significant contribution of the rearing environment to individual differences in EC. The aim of the current study was to predict the development of EC at 36 months of age from early attentional and environmental measures taken in infancy using a machine learning approach. A sample of 78 infants participated in a longitudinal study running three waves of data collection at 6, 9, and 36 months of age. Attentional tasks were administered at 6 months of age, with two additional measures (i.e., one attentional measure and another self-restraint measure) being collected at 9 months of age. Parents reported household environment variables during wave 1, and their child's EC at 36 months. A machine-learning algorithm was implemented to identify children with low EC scores at 36 months of age. An "attention only" model showed greater predictive sensitivity than the "environmental only" model. However, a model including both attentional and environmental variables was able to classify the groups (Low-EC vs. Average-to-High EC) with 100% accuracy. Sensitivity analyses indicate that socio-economic variables together with attention control processes at 6 months, and self-restraint capacity at 9 months, are the most important predictors of EC. Results suggest a foundational role of executive attention processes in the development of EC in complex interactions with household environments and provide a new tool to identify early markers of socio-emotional regulation development. Simple Summary: This work successfully employs a novel approach in processing patient and drug data to predict the drug response for cancer patients. The approach uses a deep quantum computing circuit as part of a machine learning architecture to simultaneously consider the cell line and the chemical and predict its effect. This result presents a step towards designing personalized drugs using the abilities of quantum computers. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. It is caused by various genetic mutations, which makes every instance of the disease unique. Since chemotherapy can have extremely severe side effects, each patient requires a personalized treatment plan. Finding the dosages that maximize the beneficial effects of the drugs and minimize their adverse side effects is vital. Deep neural networks automate and improve drug selection. However, they require a lot of data to be trained on. Therefore, there is a need for machine-learning approaches that require less data. Hybrid quantum neural networks were shown to provide a potential advantage in problems where training data availability is limited. We propose a novel hybrid quantum neural network for drug response prediction based on a combination of convolutional, graph convolutional, and deep quantum neural layers of 8 qubits with 363 layers. We test our model on the reduced Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer dataset and show that the hybrid quantum model outperforms its classical analog by 15% in predicting IC 50 drug effectiveness values. The proposed hybrid quantum machine learning model is a step towards deep quantum data-efficient algorithms with thousands of quantum gates for solving problems in personalized medicine, where data collection is a challenge. Automatic fire detection, which can detect and raise the alarm for fire early, is expected to help reduce the loss of life and property as much as possible. Due to its advantages over traditional methods, image processing technology has been applied gradually in fire detection. According to the correlation between geometric moments and Tchebichef moments, the translation, rotation, and scaling (TRS) invariants of Tchebichef moments are obtained first. Then, the TMIs of candidate images are calculated to construct feature vectors. To gain the best detection performance, a PSO-SVM model is proposed, where the kernel parameter and penalty factor of support vector machine (SVM) are optimized by particle swarm optimization (PSO). Then, the PSO-SVM model is utilized to identify the fire images. Compared with algorithms based on Hu moment invariants (HMIs) and Zernike moment invariants (ZMIs), the experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can improve the detection accuracy, achieving the highest detection rate of 98.18%. Mental health problems are one of the various ills that afflict the world's population. Early diagnosis and medical care are public health problems addressed from various perspectives. Among the mental illnesses that most afflict the population is depression; its early diagnosis is vitally important, as it can trigger more severe illnesses, such as suicidal ideation. Due to the lack of homogeneity in current diagnostic tools, the community has focused on using AI tools for opportune diagnosis. Unfortunately, there is a lack of data that allows the use of IA tools for the Spanish language. Our work has a cross-lingual scheme to address this issue, allowing us to identify Spanish and English texts. The experiments demonstrated the methodology's effectiveness with an F1-score of 0.95. With this methodology, we propose a method to solve a classification problem for depression tweets (or short texts) by reusing English language databases with insufficient data to generate a classification model, such as in the Spanish language. We also validated the information obtained with public data to analyze the behavior of depression in Mexico during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our results show that the use of these methodologies can serve as support, not only in the diagnosis of depression, but also in the construction of different language databases that allow the creation of more efficient diagnostic tools. Home healthcare services are public or private service that aims to provide health services at home to socially disadvantaged, sick, needy, disabled, and elderly individuals. This study aims to increase the quality of home healthcare practice by analyzing the factors affecting it. In Megacity Istanbul, data from 1707 patients were used by considering 14 different input variables affecting home healthcare practice. The demographic, geographic, and living conditions of patients and healthcare professionals who take an active role in home healthcare practice constituted the central theme of the input parameters of this study. The regression method was used to look at the factors that affect the length of time a patient needs home healthcare, which is the study's output variable. This article provides short planning times and flexible solutions for home healthcare practice by showing how to avoid planning patient healthcare applications by hand using methods that were developed for home health services. In addition, in this research, the AB, RF, GB, and NN algorithms, which are among the machine learning algorithms, were developed using patient and personnel data with known input parameters to make home healthcare application planning correct. These algorithms' accuracy and error margins were calculated, and the algorithms' results were compared. For the prediction data, the AB model showed the best performance, and the R2 value of this algorithm was computed as 0.903. The margins of error for this algorithm were found to be 0.136, 0.018, and 0.043 for the RMSE, MSE, and MAE, respectively. Analyzing vibration data using deep neural networks is an effective way to detect damages in rotating machinery at an early stage. However, the black-box approach of these methods often does not provide a satisfactory solution because the cause of classifications is not comprehensible to humans. Therefore, this work investigates the application of the explainable AI (XAI) algorithms to convolutional neural networks for vibration-based condition monitoring. Thus, the three XAI algorithms GradCAM, LRP and LIME with a modified perturbation strategy are applied to classifications based on the Fourier transform as well as the order analysis of the vibration signal. The following visualization as frequency-RPM maps and order-RPM maps allows for an effective assessment of saliency values for variable periodicity of the data, which translates to a varying rotation speed of a real-world machine. To compare the explanatory power of the XAI methods, investigations are first carried out with a synthetic data set with known class-specific characteristics. Both a visual and a quantitative analysis of the resulting saliency maps are presented. Then, a real-world data set for vibration-based imbalance classification on an electric motor, which runs at a broad range of rotation speeds, is used. The results indicate that the investigated algorithms are each partially successful in providing sample-specific saliency maps which highlight class-specific features and omit features which are not relevant for classification. Metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) gas sensors have many advantages, but the main obstacle to their widespread use is the cross-sensitivity observed when using this type of detector to analyze gas mixtures. Thermal modulation of the heater integrated with a MOS gas sensor reduced this problem and is a promising solution for applications requiring the selective detection of volatile compounds. Nevertheless, the interpretation of the sensor output signals, which take the form of complex, unique patterns, is difficult and requires advanced signal processing techniques. The study focuses on the development of a methodology to measure and process the output signal of a thermally modulated MOS gas sensor based on a B-spline curve and artificial neural networks (ANNs), which enable the quantitative analysis of volatile components (ethanol and acetone) coexisting in mixtures. B-spline approximation applied in the first stage allowed for the extraction of relevant information from the gas sensor output voltage and reduced the size of the measurement dataset while maintaining the most vital features contained in it. Then, the determined parameters of the curve were used as the input vector for the ANN model based on the multilayer perceptron structure. The paper presents the results of research on the hybrid industrial tomograph electrical impedance tomography (EIT) and ultrasonic tomography (UST) (EIT-UST), operating on the basis of electrical and ultrasonic data. The emphasis of the research was placed on the algorithmic domain. However, it should be emphasized that all hardware components of the hybrid tomograph, including electronics, sensors and transducers, have been designed and mostly made in the Netrix S.A. laboratory. The test object was a tank filled with water with several dozen percent concentration. As part of the study, the original multiple neural networks system was trained, the characteristic feature of which is the generation of each of the individual pixels of the tomographic image, using an independent artificial neural network (ANN), with the input vector for all ANNs being the same. Despite the same measurement vector, each of the ANNs generates its own independent output value for a given tomogram pixel, because, during training, the networks get their respective weights and biases. During the tests, the results of three tomographic methods were compared: EIT, UST and EIT-UST hybrid. The results confirm that the use of heterogeneous tomographic systems (hybrids) increases the reliability of reconstruction in various measuring cases, which is used to solve quality problems in managing production processes. The blockchain technique is becoming more and more popular due to its advantages such as stability and dispersed nature. This is an idea based on blockchain activity paradigms. Another important field is machine learning, which is increasingly used in practice. Unfortunately, the training or overtraining artificial neural networks is very time-consuming and requires high computing power. In this paper, we proposed using a blockchain technique to train neural networks. This type of activity is important due to the possible search for initial weights in the network, which affect faster training, due to gradient decrease. We performed the tests with much heavier calculations to indicate that such an action is possible. Cervical cancer is one of the most dangerous diseases that affect women worldwide. The diagnosis of cervical cancer is challenging, costly, and time-consuming. Existing literature has focused on traditional machine learning techniques and deep learning to identify and predict cervical cancer. This research proposes an integrated system of Genetic Algorithm (GA), Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) that accurately predicts cervical cancer. GA is used to optimize the MLP hyperparameters, and the MLPs act as simulators within the GA to provide the prediction accuracy of the solutions. The proposed method uses PCA to transform the available factors; the transformed features are subsequently used as inputs to the MLP for model training. To contrast with the PCA method, different subsets of the original factors are selected. The performance of the integrated system of PCA–GA–MLP is compared with nine different classification algorithms. The results indicate that the proposed method outperforms the studied classification algorithms. The PCA–GA–MLP model achieves the best accuracy in diagnosing Hinselmann, Biopsy, and Cytology when compared to existing approaches in the literature that were implemented on the same dataset. The incidence of colon, rectal, and colorectal cancer is very high, and diagnosis is often made in the advanced stages of the disease. In cases where peritoneal carcinomatosis is limited, patients can benefit from newer treatment options if the disease is promptly identified, and they are referred to specialized centers. Therefore, an essential diagnostic benefit would be identifying those factors that could lead to early diagnosis. A retrospective study was performed using patient data gathered from 2010 to 2020. The collected data were represented by routine blood tests subjected to stringent inclusion and exclusion criteria. In order to determine the presence or absence of peritoneal carcinomatosis in colorectal cancer patients, three types of machine learning approaches were applied: a neuro-evolutive methodology based on artificial neural network (ANN), support vector machines (SVM), and random forests (RF), all combined with differential evolution (DE). The optimizer (DE in our case) determined the internal and structural parameters that defined the ANN, SVM, and RF in their optimal form. The RF strategy obtained the best accuracy in the testing phase (0.75). Using this RF model, a sensitivity analysis was applied to determine the influence of each parameter on the presence or absence of peritoneal carcinomatosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
