The correlations between a low family socioeconomic status (SES) and adolescents' poor academic outcomes have been widely documented. However, the mechanisms through which family SES is associated with adolescents' academic achievement are not well understood. Therefore, this study examined the mediating roles of different types of parental involvement (i.e., parental school-based involvement, academic socialization, and home-based involvement) and the moderating role of adolescents' subjective social mobility in the relationships between family SES and academic achievement by using multisource data. The valid sample consisted of 842 adolescents (x-bar [superscript age] = 12.28 years, 40.97% girls) who were recruited from five township public schools in China. The results indicated that all three types of parental involvement partially mediated the relationships between family SES and adolescents' Chinese and math achievement; parental school-based involvement had the strongest mediating effects, followed by academic socialization, and home-based involvement had the lowest mediating effects. Moreover, the path from parental home-based involvement to Chinese achievement in the mediation model was moderated by the adolescents' subjective social mobility. In conclusion, parental involvement is an important mediating mechanism through which a low family SES impedes adolescents' academic achievement, and adolescents' subjective social mobility can play a buffering role in the relationship between parental home-based involvement and Chinese achievement.

Background: Moral distress seriously affects professional nurses, and a number of instruments have been developed to measure the level of moral distress. The moral distress thermometer (MDT) is one of the commonly used instruments that can rapidly measure real-time moral distress; however, it remains unclear whether it is still useful in the Chinese cultural context. Aim: This study aimed to adapt and validate the MDT among Chinese registered nurses. Research design: An online, cross-sectional, survey study of adapting and validating Chinese version of MDT. Participants and research context: A total of 182 registered nurses effectively finished this survey. The correlation between MDT score and the score of the moral distress scale-revised version (MDS-R) was used for evaluating convergent validity, and MDT scores of registered nurses who working in different departments and who made different actions to the final question of the MDS-R were compared by using one-way ANOVA to evaluate construct validity. Ethical considerations: The Ethics Committee of Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital approved this study. Results: The Chinese version of MDT was described as relevant to measure moral distress, with a reported item-level content validity index (I-CVI) and scale-level CVI (S-CVI) of 1. The mean MDT score and mean MDS-R score were 2.54 and 38.66, respectively, and the correlation between these two scores was significantly moderate (r = 0.41). Nurses working different departments reported different levels of moral distress, and those working in intensive care unit reported the highest level of moral distress than those working in other departments (p = 0.04). The MDT scores between nurses who presented different actions to their position were also significantly different, and those who had ever left and those who had considered leaving but did not leave reported significantly higher moral distress. The COVID-19 pandemic has been present globally for more than three years, and cross-border transmission has played an important role in its spread. Currently, most predictions of COVID-19 spread are limited to a country (or a region), and models for cross-border transmission risk assessment remain lacking. Information on imported COVID-19 cases reported from March 2020 to June 2022 was collected from the National Health Commission of China, and COVID-19 epidemic data of the countries of origin of the imported cases were collected on data websites such as WHO and Our World in Data. It is proposed to establish a prediction model suitable for the prevention and control of overseas importation of COVID-19. Firstly, the SIR model was used to fit the epidemic infection status of the countries where the cases were exported, and most of the r2 values of the fitted curves obtained were above 0.75, which indicated that the SIR model could well fit different countries and the infection status of the region. After fitting the epidemic infection status data of overseas exporting countries, on this basis, a SIR-multiple linear regression overseas import risk prediction combination model was established, which can predict the risk of overseas case importation, and the established overseas import risk model overall P <0.05, the adjusted R2 = 0.7, indicating that the SIR-multivariate linear regression overseas import risk prediction combination model can obtain better prediction results. The occurrence of slope instability disasters seriously endangers the safety of people's lives and property in China. Therefore, it is essential to study the slope instability process and the interaction between soil and retaining walls. In this paper, the smoothed-particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method, based on the elastoplastic constitutive model of rock and soil, was used to simulate the entire process of slope instability and the interaction between soil and retaining walls. The model, based on the classical elastic–plastic theory, includes linear elastic deformation and plastic deformation following the non-associated flow rule under the Drucker–Prager (DP) yield criterion. By considering the plastic characteristics of geotechnical materials, this method can accurately simulate the slope movement process. The model was established, calculated, and compared with a slope example, thus verifying its feasibility. Furthermore, the motion response of the retaining wall under different conditions was studied, which provides a new numerical simulation platform for the stability checking of the retaining wall and motion analysis after the interaction between the retaining wall and slope soil. The low-carbon pilot cities policy (LCPCP) aims to stimulate economic growth and ensure the attainment of greenhouse gas emission reduction targets to address climate change. China issued the LCPCP in 2010 and steadily expanded the size of its pilot zones. This study builds a quasi-natural experiment based on China's LCPCP and a difference-in-difference model employing urban carbon intensity data over a 10-year period beginning in 2007 to examine the implementation repercussions of the LCPCP. According to the findings, the LCPCP has significantly reduced the carbon intensity of pilot cities. Additionally, an analysis of heterogeneity suggests that the LCPCP is more prevalent in regions with higher concentrations of secondary industries. Moreover, the mechanism reveals that the decarbonization program reduces carbon intensity through technological innovation, particularly in eastern China. In conclusion, our findings provide strong support for the operation and promotion of China's LCPCP as well as guidance and support for China's goal of reducing carbon emissions. Household income predicts early adolescents' cognitive development. However, the mechanism underlying this association and protective factors are unclear. This study assessed one-year longitudinal data to examine whether perceived discrimination mediated the association between household income and executive function and the moderating role of shift-and-persist. 344 early adolescents in rural China were included in the study (mean = 10.88 years, SD = 1.32 years, girls: 51.74%). The latent variable model revealed that household income predicted early adolescents' cognitive flexibility and working memory in the subsequent year through perceived discrimination. Shift-and-persist moderated the negative effects of perceived discrimination on cognitive flexibility: perceived discrimination impeded cognitive flexibility only among early adolescents with low shift-and-persist. The findings highlight perceived discrimination in the relation between household income and early adolescents' executive function and underscore the protective role of shift-and-persist. Poverty impedes children's executive function (EF). Therefore, it is necessary to mitigate the negative effect of poverty by developing efficient interventions to improve poor children's cognitive function. In three studies, we examined whether high‐level construals can improve EF among poor children in China. In Study 1, we observed a positive relationship between family socioeconomic status and children's EF, which was moderated by construal level (n = 206; Mage = 9.71; 45.6% girls). In Study 2a, we experimentally induced high‐ versus low‐level construals and found that poor children with high‐level construals exhibited better EF than those with low‐level construals (n = 65; Mage = 11.32; 47.7% girls). However, the same intervention did not affect the performance of affluent children in Study 2b (n = 63; Mage = 10.54; 54% girls). Moreover, we found that the interventional effects of high‐level construals improved the ability of children living in poverty to make healthy decisions and delayed gratification in Study 3 (n = 74; Mage = 11.10; 45.9% girls). Objective: As a potentially life‐threatening condition, myasthenia gravis (MG) has limited epidemiological studies on mortality. We aim to provide demographic distribution, geographical variation, and temporal trend of MG‐related mortality in China. Methods: The national population‐based analysis was conducted based on records derived from the National Mortality Surveillance System of China. All deaths related to MG were identified from 2013 to 2020, and MG‐related mortality was evaluated by sex, age, location, and year. Results: A total of 4224 deaths were related to MG during 2013–2020, and the median age at death of MG was 59.45 years, significantly lower than that in the general population (75.47 years, P < 0.05). In 2020, the age‐standardized mortality rate of MG was 1.86 per million people and markedly higher in males than in females (2.37 vs. 1.31 per million). The mortality rate per million was lower than 1 in young children, peaking at 2.83 only in males (vs. 0.36 in females) aged 10–19 years, and substantially increased with age, reaching the highest rate of 13.31 for males and 10.58 for females aged 80 years and older. Geographical disparity across China was observed with the highest age‐standardized mortality rate in Southwest (2.53 per million). From 2013 to 2020, MG‐related mortality rate showed an increasing trend with the average annual percentage change of 3.5% (95% CI, 1.4–5.6). The notable increases occurred in age 10–19 years and over 70 years. Interpretation: In China, MG‐related mortality was notably high among adolescent males and the elderly. Purpose: Omicron, a variant of COVID-19, is becoming a major issue of global concern. Its high transmissibility may bring challenges to the distribution of health care in a large population country like China. Investigating the behavior of the virus in the Chinese population will certainly help to plan for the upcoming surge of Omicron. Therefore, we made a preliminary analysis of the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of suspected cases of Omicron at the early stage of the surge. Patients and Methods: The study was conducted in Nanyang Central Hospital, a tertiary hospital, from 21st December, 2022 to 8th January, 2023. A total of 210 patients underwent demographic characteristics and clinical symptom collection from their medical records. Moreover, sputum culture was also conducted to explore the types of bacterial or fungal infections. Results: Our results showed that 5 patients (4.1%) were aged 16– 49, 40 patients (32.5%) were aged 50– 70, and 78 patients (63.4%) were aged 70 or more in the severe group. The proportion of male patients with severe diseases infected with Omicron is higher than that of female patients and the proportion of severe cases increases with age. The main symptoms of patients infected with Omicron are cough (91, 74.0%), fever (90, 73.2%), and asthma (73, 59.3%). The pathogens Streptococcus pneumoniae (71, 31.0%), Staphylococcus aureus (46, 20.1%), Mycoplasma pneumoniae (26, 11.4%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (18, 7.9%), Acinetobacter baumannii (13, 5.7%), and Haemophilus influenzae were detected in lower respiratory tract. Conclusion: This study suggests that age > 70 is a risk factor for severe COVID-19 and that patients often have bacterial or fungal infections. Our research results may help to provide effective treatment for patients with Omicron infection and also contribute to health economic analysis and research to assist future public health decision-making. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic and related public health intervention measures have been reported to have resulted in the reduction of infections caused by influenza viruses and other common respiratory viruses. However, the influence may be varied in areas that have different ecological, economic, and social conditions. This study investigated the changing epidemiology of 8 common respiratory pathogens, including Influenza A (IFVA), Influenza B (IFVB), Respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV), rhinovirus (RV), Human metapneumovirus Adenovirus, Human bocavirus, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae, among hospitalized children during spring and early summer in 2019–2021 in two hospitals in Hainan Island, China, in the COVID‐19 pandemic era. The results revealed a significant reduction in the prevalence of IFVA and IFVB in 2020 and 2021 than in 2019, whereas the prevalence of HRSV increased, and it became the dominant viral pathogen in 2021. RV was one of the leading pathogens in the 3 year period, where no significant difference was observed. Phylogenetic analysis revealed close relationships among the circulating respiratory viruses. Large scale studies are needed to study the changing epidemiology of seasonal respiratory viruses to inform responses to future respiratory virus pandemics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Understanding the transformation of accumulated phosphorus (P) is vital for P management. However, previous studies are limited to a few sites in Chinese agroecosystems. In this study, to investigate the temporal-spatial differences of transformation from accumulated P to available P (determined by the Olsen method), a dataset was assembled based on 91 national long-term experimental sites across China in the recent 31 years (1988–2018). A boosted regression tree (BRT) and a structural equation model (SEM) were used to analyze the factors influencing the transformation. The results showed that the transformation from accumulated P to available P in South China (1.97 mg kg−1) was significantly higher than that in other regions (0.69–1.22 mg kg−1). Soil properties were the main driving factors with a relative contribution of 81.8%, while climate and management practices explained 7.8% and 10.4% of the variations, respectively. Furthermore, SEM analysis revealed that the soil organic matter (SOM) could positively and directly affect the transformation, whereas the soil pH, soil silt content, and P fertilizer had negative and direct effects on it. For the first time, this study analyzed the transformation from soil accumulated P to available P at a national scale and at multiple sites and quantified the contribution of the main influencing factors. These results help to predict the soil available P content across different agroecosystems based on the input amount of P fertilizer, contributing to the regional precise management of P fertilizer application. The current literature on Christian mission universities in Modern China (1840–1949) pays specific attention to their efforts to adapt to the intellectual and political context of their time. Through extensive archival works, we contribute to this research orientation by documenting the academic activities of the first Catholic university in China, Université l'Aurore (1903–1952) in Shanghai. Established and managed by the French Jesuits, Université l'Aurore exemplified the mission's tradition of evangelization through science education. Its pedagogical arrangements, selection of teachers, and moral education showed high levels of professionalism and almost no religious influence. The Jesuits, who took as their motto, "to find God in all things", believed that their scientific excellence could indirectly promote the Catholic spirit among future Chinese intellectuals and elites. Thanks to their strategy of indirect evangelization, not only did Université l'Aurore survive in a period when the government imposed draconic restrictions on mission entities in the name of "educational sovereignty", it also contributed to the modernization of China's education and society. At present, hydrofracture technology is mainly used for shale gas exploration and exploitation, and the effect of volume fracturing is tightly linked to the mechanical properties (including anisotropy and brittleness) of shale. Meanwhile, Sichuan Basin is also an important area for unconventional natural gas exploration and development in China. This work analyzed mineral composition and microstructure of outcrop shale matrix in Lower Silurian Longmaxi Formation through XRD test, slice observation, and scanning electron microscope (SEM). How anisotropy affects shale deformation, strength and failure characteristics at different bedding angles (0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, and 90°) under diverse confining pressures (0 MPa, 25 MPa, 50 MPa, 75 MPa, and 100 MPa) in conventional uniaxial/triaxial experiments were discussed. The acoustic emission (AE) evolution was introduced to reveal the cracks closure and propagation of Longmaxi Formation shale and qualitatively characterized the brittleness of the shale. What's more, based on the existing brittleness index, this study proposed an indicator BInew that considers the shape of the stress–strain curve before and after the peak stress to evaluate the brittleness of the Longmaxi Formation shale. The index BInew can better describe the changes of brittleness with confining pressure and bedding angle. Finally, this work elaborately explained the relationship between AE characteristics, brittleness, and failure modes of shale. AE characteristics can not only qualitatively characterize shale brittleness but also show the failure process and modes of shale samples. Change of failure modes rests with the difference in brittleness and also reflects the level of brittleness. The change of brittleness with failure modes can be expressed as shear along bedding plane (Sh-Al) > splitting through bedding plane (Sp-Th) > conjugate shear failure (Co-Sh) > shear along bedding plane (Sh-Al) > shear through bedding plane (Sh-Th). Highlights: Uniaxial/triaxial compression and acoustic emission (AE) monitoring of Longmaxi formation shale were carried out. Influence of anisotropy of shale on mechanical properties under different confining pressures was analyzed. Sauropterygia is the largest, most successful group of Mesozoic marine diapsids, spanning from the late Early Triassic to the Late Cretaceous. Plesiomorphic for sauropterygians, pachypleurosauroids are important for our understanding on the early evolution of this group. Here, we present a new pachypleurosaurid, Luopingosaurus imparilis gen. et sp. nov., based on an exceptionally preserved skeleton from the early Middle Triassic Luoping Lagerstätte in Yunnan, China. The discovery documents the first long-snouted pachypleurosaurid with an unexpected hyperphalangy in the manus, providing new insights into the morphological diversification, ecological adaption and biogeographic evolution of this clade. The discovery further indicates that there is a morphological divergence between short-snouted (brevirostrine) keichousaurids and relatively long-snouted (longirostrine) pachypleurosaurids, which was probably driven by ecological specializations related to feeding and foraging. Additionally, an evolutionary trend towards the reduction of the ratio of the hyoid length to mandibular length (HM ratio) is recognized in pachypleurosauroids. This reduction of HM ratio, associated with the increase of the snout length, might implicate a gradual recession of suction feeding in pachypleurosauroid evolution. Phylogenetic studies incorporating Luopingosaurus recover European pachypleurosaurids as successive sister groups to Chinese derived pachypleurosaurids, supporting a western Tethyan origin for this family. The golden snub-nosed monkey (Rhinopithecus roxellana) is a typical arboreal group-living Old World primate. While limb preference has been extensively studied in this species, limb preference consistency has not yet been explored. Here, based on 26 R. roxellana adults, we investigated whether individuals exhibit consistent motor biases in manual- (e.g., unimanual feeding and social grooming) and foot-related (e.g., bipedal locomotion) tasks and whether limb preference consistency is influenced by increased social interactions during social grooming. Results showed no consistency in the direction or strength of limb preference among tasks, except for lateral strength in handedness for unimanual feeding and footedness in the initiation of locomotion. Population-level foot preference was only found among right-handers. Marked lateral bias was found in unimanual feeding, indicating that it may be a sensitive behavioural measure for assessing manual preference, especially for provisioned populations. This study not only improves our understanding of the relationship between hand and foot preference in R. roxellana but also reveals potential differential hemispheric regulation of limb preference and the influence of increased social interaction on handedness consistency. Industrial agglomeration (IA) has greatly promoted the improvement of industrial efficiency (IE), but it has also brought serious environmental pollution (EP), which in turn affects sustainable industrial development. Therefore, this study built a theoretical derivation model including pollution output and used a vector error correction model (VECM) and three-stage simultaneous equations (3SLS) to explore the mechanisms among IA, EP and sustainable IE. The following conclusions were reached: (1) The relationship between IA and EP presents an inverted U-shape and is located on the left side of the inverted U-shape curve. IA has increased emissions of industrial sulphur dioxide, industrial soot and industrial wastewater pollutants, but is conducive to IE. Increased EP will inhibit both IA and the level of IE. (2) Both IA and low EP can enhance the level of sustainable IE. (3) IE plays a mitigating role in IA and EP; it will weaken the inhibitory effect of EP on IA and strengthen the impact of IA on EP. In the future, China should continue its industrialization process to promote the scale of IA and strictly control the discharge of industrial pollutants to reduce EP. Simultaneously, the government should encourage industrial enterprises to improve technological innovation to promote IE. IA, EP and IE form a virtuous circle that promotes the development of the industrial economy and optimizes the environment. Feline coronavirus (FCoV) infections present as one of two forms: a mild or symptom-less enteric infection (FEC) and a fatal systemic disease termed feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). The lack of epidemiology of FCoV in central China and the reason why different symptoms are caused by viruses of the same serotype have motivated this investigation. Clinical data of 81 suspected FIP cases, 116 diarrhea cases and 174 healthy cases were collected from veterinary hospitals using body cavity effusion or fecal samples. Risk factors, sequence comparison and phylogenetic studies were performed. The results indicated that FIPV was distinguished from FECV in the average hydrophobicity of amino acids among the cleavage sites of furin, as well as the mutation sites 23,531 and 23,537. FIPV included a higher minimal R-X-X-R recognition motif of furin (41.94%) than did FECV (9.1%). The serotype of FCoV was insignificantly correlated with FIP, and the clade 1 and clade 2 strains that appeared were unique to central China. Thus, it is hypothesized that this, along with the latent variables of an antigenic epitope at positions 1058 and 1060, as well as mutations at the S1/S2 sites, are important factors affecting FCoV transmission and pathogenicity. Managing urban water in many cities becomes more challenging under impacts of climate change and urbanization. Low impact development (LID) measures have been increasingly recognized and applied thanks to their capability of tackling multi‐dimensional water problems associated with both quantity and quality issues. Yet, in China limited attention has been paid to guide the planning strategy of LIDs in the preliminary stage, which often suffers from inadequate and imprecise data and information. In this study, an approach integrating a GIS‐based spatial evaluation model, a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation module and a multi‐objective optimization algorithm, is proposed to prioritize the spatial distribution of LIDs (i.e., type, placement, and extent) at the subcatchment scale in a case study in Southern China. By evaluating the trade‐offs among runoff reduction, pollution control, and economic investment, the synergies, and combination strategies of four types of LIDs are explored. Governments actively encourage renewable energy use to deal with climate change and achieve carbon emission reduction targets. It is crucial to find out the driving factors that affect the utilization of renewable energy. Therefore, based on China's 2010–2016 input–output table, this paper uses the input–output model and structural decomposition analysis (SDA) to analyze the driving factors of renewable energy changes in the production end, household end, and the aggregate economy. The results show that the changes in the consumption structure (F) is the most crucial factor for renewable energy use, followed by technology progress (T) and final demand per capita (V). Sector SEHW (supply of electric power, heat power, and water) and MCRP (manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products) are the two vital sectors to achieve China's energy transition of the production level. However, as for households, the proportion of renewable energy has been declining. In this study, a 3 × 3 comprehensive colorimetric sensor array (CSA) was constructed for the quality evaluation of Chinese rice wine based on three different action principles (pH change principle, indicators displacement assay principle, and ethanol fading principle). First, China national standard was used to determine the total acid, reducing sugar, and alcoholic strength of six kinds of rice wine, which forms the basis for the selection of the CSA sensitive points. Then, CSA was combined with pattern recognition technologies to qualitatively distinguish rice wine. The results showed that the when PCs = 3, the linear discriminant analysis model can achieve a recognition rate of 100%, which shows strong prediction ability compared with K‐nearest neighbor and back‐propagation artificial neural network models. Finally, CSA was combined with partial least squares (PLS) and support vector regression (SVR) to quantitatively analyze the three components in rice wine. The correlation coefficients of the training set and predictions are more than 85% in the SVR model, which is superior to the PLS model. Based on these findings, it is possible to conclude that the CSA can be used to rapidly evaluate the quality of rice wine. This study examined the relationship between the air quality index (AQI), COVID-19, and the oil market using China's provincial data for the first four months of the pandemic (1 January–22 April 2020). The results show that air quality improved significantly during this period. Our income and regional group analyses further clarified that the middle-income group and Eastern and Central provinces, which were most affected by COVID-19, showed a more robust relationship between AQI and COVID-19 cases than other Chinese provinces. The national oil market, which saw a 57% decline in the oil price over the period of 13 January to 22 April, was also found to be insignificantly related to AQI. All in all, our paper implies that an improvement in air quality due to a drastic decline in economic activity. We provide some future research directions in the paper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: To study the influence of hyperbilirubinemia on indexes of neonatal kidney function. Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted September 2019 to March 2020 in Neonatology Department of Xuzhou Central Hospital. Neonates with gestational age ≥ 35 weeks and aged ≤ 7 days were included and divided into mild, moderate, and severe groups according to total serum bilirubin level. Epidemiologic and demographic data and daily urine output were recorded. Total serum bilirubin, serum creatinine, serum cystatin C, serum neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), urine NGAL, and kidney injury molecule-1 were tested before and 12~18 h after phototherapy. Parameters of kidney function were compared between groups. Results: Fifty-three, 52, and 49 neonates were included in the mild, moderate, and severe groups, respectively. Urine NGAL was higher in severe (1.36 ± 0.24 μg/L) compared to moderate (1.22 ± 0.19 μg/L) and mild groups (1.16 ± 0.19 μg/L), and differences were statistically significant (P = 0.004 and < 0.001, respectively). Urine NGAL was not significantly different between moderate and mild groups (P > 0.05). No significant differences in other kidney function indexes were observed between the three groups (all P > 0.05). Significant reduction in urine NGAL levels 12~18 h after stopping phototherapy was found in severe group ((1.17 ± 0.28) μg/L vs. (1.35 ± 0.23) μg/L, P < 0.001). Urine NGAL positively correlated with total serum bilirubin (r = 0.575, P < 0.001). Among all cases, neither serum creatinine nor daily urine output met neonatal acute kidney injury diagnostic criteria. Conclusion: Severe hyperbilirubinemia may temporarily impair renal tubular reabsorption functions in full-term and near-term neonates, which is likely reversible. The correlations between a low family socioeconomic status (SES) and adolescents' poor academic outcomes have been widely documented. However, the mechanisms through which family SES is associated with adolescents' academic achievement are not well understood. Therefore, this study examined the mediating roles of different types of parental involvement (i.e., parental school-based involvement, academic socialization, and home-based involvement) and the moderating role of adolescents' subjective social mobility in the relationships between family SES and academic achievement by using multisource data. The valid sample consisted of 842 adolescents ( X ¯ age = 12.28 years, 40.97% girls) who were recruited from five township public schools in China. The results indicated that all three types of parental involvement partially mediated the relationships between family SES and adolescents' Chinese and math achievement; parental school-based involvement had the strongest mediating effects, followed by academic socialization, and home-based involvement had the lowest mediating effects. Moreover, the path from parental home-based involvement to Chinese achievement in the mediation model was moderated by the adolescents' subjective social mobility. In conclusion, parental involvement is an important mediating mechanism through which a low family SES impedes adolescents' academic achievement, and adolescents' subjective social mobility can play a buffering role in the relationship between parental home-based involvement and Chinese achievement. The adverse impact of a low family socioeconomic status (SES) on rural-to-urban migrant children's academic achievement has been widely demonstrated. However, knowledge regarding the mechanisms underlying this relationship is limited. The current study aimed to examine the potential mediating effects of educational expectations and the moderating effects of subjective SES on the relationship between family SES and academic achievement among Chinese rural-to-urban migrant adolescents. A sample of 321 rural-to-urban migrant adolescents (48.2% girls; mean age = 11.73 years, SD = 1.16 years) was recruited in China. The results indicated that migrant adolescents' educational expectations mediated the relationship between family SES and academic achievement. In addition, the link between family SES and educational expectations was weak among adolescents with higher levels of subjective SES. These findings suggest that subjective SES serves as a protective factor buffering the negative effects of a low family SES on migrant adolescents' academic achievement through educational expectations. Determine the main factors affecting carbon emissions of the Chinese steel industry is indispensable commitments to achieve the sustainable development of China. Hereby, based on the Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence and Technology (STIPRAT) model, this paper combines the economic growth function, carbon emission production function, and the FDI function of the Chinese steel industry, and uses the three-stage least square equation model (3SLS) to analyze the relationship between China's economic growth, carbon emissions in the steel industry, and FDI (foreign direct investment) inflows. The results document a complete two-way causal relationship of three variables in the whole country and the Western region, while the relationship in the Eastern region and the Central region is not complete. Moreover, there are no bidirectional causal relationship between carbon emissions and FDI in the Eastern region, while only bidirectional causality between carbon emissions and FDI in the Central region. The taxonomy of woody bamboo presents many difficulties due to its long blooming interval and complex morphological variation. Whether the current taxonomy reflects genuine species divergence within woody bamboo is an intriguing question. The Fargesia spathacea Franch. complex comprises 15 closely related species with a sympatric distribution in China. Their classification has long been controversial because only a handful of vegetative traits are available, providing a good opportunity to explore the evolutionary relationships and genetic differentiation in woody bamboo. Here, we present a study involving 750 individuals from 39 representative populations in the F. spathacea complex using 14 simple sequence repeat markers. We found varying degrees of genetic diversity across populations of the F. spathacea complex (He = 0.07–0.81) and largely negative F‐values at the population level, implying an excess of heterozygotes in the populations. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that all populations were divided into two major groups (clusters A and B), with the majority of the 15 species representing distinct genetic lineages. Based on population genetic analysis along with morphological evidence, we confirmed the identity of three species (F. decurvata J. L. Lu, F. spathacea, and F. murielae Gamble) and suggested the invalidation of four other species (F. scabrida T. P. Yi, F. robusta T. P. Yi, F. denudata T. P. Yi F. murielae (Gamble) T. P. Yi, and F. nitida (Mitford) Keng f. ex T. P. Yi). The delimitation of the remaining eight species has yet to be explored. The analysis of ecological factors and spatial autocorrelation suggested that altitudinal differences might account for the distinct genetic divergence between the two major groups. Understanding the driving forces of urban flood variations is important for better formulating future management strategies. This study explores the changes in urban drainage indicators (i.e., catchment area, imperviousness, pipe length and capacity) in historical urbanization and their impacts on urban flood from multiple spatio-temporal scales. By employing a GIS-based processing module, a SWMM-based flood modelling and a statistical analysis, we identify the indicators with significant changes and explore the causal relationships between the indicators and flood volumes in a case study in Northern China. Results showed a clear distinction in drainage indicators at different spatial scales. Flood volume is more sensitive to urban development and drainage performance in urban center. Our regression models explained over 85% of the historical flood variations for all spatial scales at the 90% confidence level. The Yellow River Basin (YRB) is an important region for both ecological and economic growth in China, and a healthy and stable ecological environment is fundamental to achieving high-quality development. Investigating the spatio-temporal changs of vegetation carbon sinks in the YRB is necessary to improve understanding of the regional carbon cycle. This study analyzed the YRB using the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. The basin was divided into sections based on ecological function regionalization schemes. We applied Theil-Sen median trend analysis and Spearman correlation analysis, along with the lasso regression model, to examine the NPP's temporal and spatial patterns and its driving factors in these regions. The objective was to examine the NPP' s temporal and spatial patterns and its driving factors in these regions, identifying commonalities within regions and differences between regions, while analyzing in a targeted manner the lack of vegetation carbon sequestration in ecological areas. This study highlighted the importance of ecological engineering in ecological civilization and carbon neutrality, providing scientific theoretical support and a decision-making basis for the realization of carbon neutrality. The research results indicate significant upward trends (p <0.001) in both the average annual NPP (AANPP) growth rate (57.98%) and the total annual NPP (TANPP) growth rate (41.9%) in the YRB from 2001 to 2020. The multi-year average NPP (MYANPP) exhibit a spatial distribution with high values in the south and low values in the north. The spatial distribution of NPP exhibits notable spatial aggregation and heterogeneity, where regions demonstrating improvement trends constitute 93.01% of the area, and approximately 79.73% of this region displays low volatility. A high-value area is concentrated in the Agroecological Zone of the Fenwei Basin (I-11), the Loess Plateau Agriculture and Grassland Ecological Zone (I-12), and the Qinba Mountains Deciduous and Evergreen Broad-leaved Forest Ecological Zone (I-15), with significant spatial differences. Temperature, precipitation, and forests are the foremost elements affecting NPP in the YRB, exhibiting positive correlations. Conversely, farmland displays negative correlations. Based on social capital and stakeholder theories, this study examined the impact mechanism of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on technological innovation performance from the mediating effect of corporate social capital (CSC) and the moderating effect of market competition intensity. Moreover, with the development of environmentalism, the sustainable impact of environmental responsibility in the process of technological innovation is examined. First, Poisson panel regression is used to investigate the non-linear impact of CSR on technological innovation performance based on the data of 277 manufacturing companies in China from 2013 to 2018. Our results show that CSR has an inverted U-shaped impact on technological innovation performance and effectively promote technological innovation performance at a certain critical threshold. However, it will negatively influence technological innovation performance when the critical threshold is exceeded. Second, based on social capital theory, CSC is regarded as a mediator variable in the impact of CSR on technological innovation performance. Enterprises can accumulate CSC by implementing CSR, which then promotes technological innovation performance. Third, market competition intensity negatively regulates the effect of CSR on technological innovation performance. The impact of CSR in promoting technological innovation is further weakened when market competition intensity is high. • Petal spurs in Aquilegia kansuensis, A. rockii, A. semicalcarata and A. ecalcarata have different lengths and nectary structures. • Early petal development is similar, and petals undergo delayed development, resulting in different mature petals via developmental remodeling. • There is no obvious one-to-one correspondence between spur length and pollinators in the four species of Aquilegia , and abiotic factors may be an important explanation for spur lengths in our study. The diversification of spur length in Aquilegia is often thought to be driven by pollinators. In this study, the morphology and pollination biology of four sympatric Aquilegia species distributed in China with different petal spur lengths were investigated through scanning electron microscopy, light microscopy, and field observations and measurements. The morphology and spur lengths of the four Aquilegia species differed: Aquilegia kansuensis has long incurved spurs (14.82 ± 0.18 mm), A. rockii has long straight spurs (16.34 ± 0.18 mm), A. semicalcarata has short slender spurs (5.16 ± 0.17 mm), and A. ecalcarata is effectively spurless (1.20 ± 0.03 mm). Early petal development was similar among the species; petals undergo initiation and delayed development, resulting in mature petals with different spur lengths and morphologies via developmental remodeling. The long spurs of A. kansuensis and A. rockii were derived from an increased cell number and anisotropic cell expansion, with well-developed secretory tissue forming at the spur bottom. No secretory tissue formed in the spurs of A. semicalcarata and A. ecalcarata , even though their cell number increased. Although their spur morphology and nectary structure show considerable differences, the pollination systems of the four species are similar. Rhingia campestris is the dominant pollinator of A. kansuensis, A. semicalcarata , and A. ecalcarata , whereas Pipiza familiaris is the dominant pollinator of A. rockii. Both R. campestris and P. familiaris forage for pollen when visiting flowers. Given that the four species studied differ in spur length but are all pollinated by short proboscid pollinators, there is no obvious one-to-one correspondence between spur length and pollinator mouthpart length in A. rockii, A. kansuensis, A. semicalcarata and A. ecalcarata , which is similar to the pattern in the European Aquilegia alpina , and abiotic factors may be an important explanation for spur lengths in our study. With most large carnivore populations and habitats suffering massive declines across the world, efforts to restore their populations in the wild are of high conservation priority. China attaches great importance to protecting Amur tigers and has made considerable progress towards this goal, but most efforts have been focused on the single Laoyeling landscape. Here we assess all four major forested landscapes (including Laoyeling, Zhangguangcailing, Wandashan and Lesser Khinghan Mountains) that may be suitable for tigers in northeast China. Between 2013 and 2018, in total 55 wild Amur tigers were recorded through camera trap surveys and 30 individuals were identified through genetic analyses. The finite rate of increase of the population in the Laoyeling landscape, the only landscape with a breeding population, fluctuated greatly, but averaged 1.51. Total habitat used by Amur tigers during this period amounted to 47,813 km2. We estimated that based on density and home range sizes in nearby Russia, these landscapes could support 310 tigers, including 119 resident breeding females. However, prey density, especially of preferred prey, was extremely low, and likely a primary constraint to population recovery in landscapes other than Laoyeling, especially the Wandashan and Lesser Khingan Mountains landscapes. To achieve the goal of a large meta-population of Amur tigers across northeast Asia, in addition to prey restoration, we recommend extensive landuse planning, reducing anthropogenic impacts, improving ecology connectivity, and extensive international cooperation, as well as a feasibility assessment for introducing orphaned cubs as a means of speeding recovery in landscapes without breeding females. Background: Posterior spinal fusion (PSF) for the correction of idiopathic scoliosis is associated with severe postoperative pain. Erector spinae plane block (ESPB) has been proposed to provide analgesia and reduce opioid consumption. We aimed to investigate the effect of bilateral ultrasound-guided single-shot ESPB on postoperative analgesia in pediatric patients undergoing PSF., Methods: This double-blinded, randomized controlled trial will enroll 74 AIS patients undergoing elective PSF. Participants will be assigned to the ESPB group or control group at a 1:1 ratio. Patients in the ESPB group will receive ultrasound-guided bilateral ESPB preoperatively, and patients in the control group received sham ESPB using normal saline. The primary joint endpoints are the area under the curve (AUC) of numerical rating scale (NRS) score and opioid consumption in postoperative 24 h. The secondary endpoints are numerical rating scale (NRS) score and opioid consumption at postoperative 0.5, 3, 6, 9, 12, 24, 36, and 48 h, rescue analgesia, recovery outcomes, and adverse events., Discussion: At present, studies investigating the effect of ESPB on pediatric patients are still needed. Diarrhea and constipation are common health concerns in children. Numerous studies have identified strong association between gut microbiota and digestive-related diseases. But little is known about the gut microbiota that simultaneously affects both diarrhea and constipation or their potential regulatory mechanisms. Stool samples from 618 children (66 diarrhea, 138 constipation, 414 healthy controls) aged 0-3 years were collected to investigate gut microbiota changes using 16S rRNA sequencing. Compared with healthy, children with diarrhea exhibited a significant decrease in microbial diversity, while those with constipation showed a marked increase (p < 0.05). Significantly, our results firstly Ruminococcus increased in constipation (p = 0.03) and decreased in diarrhea (p < 0.01) compared to healthy controls. Pathway analysis revealed that Ruminococcus highly involved in the regulation of five common pathways (membrane transport, nervous system, energy metabolism, signal transduction and endocrine system pathways) between diarrhea and constipation, suggesting a potential shared regulatory mechanism. Our finding firstly reveals one core microorganisms that may affect the steady balance of the gut in children with diarrhea or constipation, providing an important reference for potential diagnosis and treatment of constipation and diarrhea., (© 2024. Purpose: The primary objective of this study was to evaluate how the utilization of virtual surgical planning (VSP) and the epidemiological profile of patients undergoing orthognathic surgery (OGS) have changed in the past decade., Methods: The records of patients who had undergone orthognathic surgery at a national dental hospital were reviewed. Trends in VSP, epidemiological data, presentation of dentofacial deformity, and management details were recorded., Results: A total of 1184 patients were included in this study. The majority of the patients seeking treatment in this dental hospital were young Chinese adults with dentofacial deformities requiring bimaxillary surgeries. Most patients presented with a skeletal Class III pattern (79.0%), and asymmetry was diagnosed in 80.8% of all cases., Conclusion: There was an initial slow pick-up rate for VSP, but this rapidly increased to a high adoption rate of 98.7-100% between 2019 and 2021. Purpose: The long-term effect of neighborhood poverty on internalizing symptoms in adolescents and the biological mechanisms underlying this association remain unclear. We defined neighborhood poverty at the village level in two dimensions: intensity (i.e., poverty rate) and duration. This study investigated how the poverty rate and duration of exposure to neighborhood poverty interact to predict internalizing symptoms in adolescents through biological mechanisms (i.e., allostatic load and early pubertal timing)., Methods: A total of 418 adolescents (50.2% girls; 11-14 years old; mean age = 12.57 years) living in rural China participated in two waves of data collection. Path analysis was conducted to examine the mediating role of allostatic load and pubertal timing in the relationship between the duration of exposure to neighborhood poverty and internalizing symptoms. Moreover, the interactive effect between the poverty rate and duration of neighborhood poverty on the allostatic load was tested., Results: The positive association between the duration of exposure to neighborhood poverty and internalizing symptoms of adolescents was explained by elevated allostatic load and early pubertal timing after adjusting for gender, age, prior family socioeconomic states and internalizing symptoms. The duration in neighborhood poverty was a stronger predictor of allostatic load for adolescents living in high poverty rate neighborhoods than for those living in low poverty rate neighborhoods., Discussion: Neighborhood poverty gets "under the skin" through biological pathways and affects internalizing symptoms among adolescents. Background: Malignant cerebral edema (MCE) is a severe condition characterized by rapid neurological deterioration and a potentially poor prognosis. Scoring systems including the malignant brain edema (MBE) score, Enhanced Detection of Edema in Malignant Anterior Circulation Stroke score (EDEMA), and modified EDEMA score, have been developed to predict MCE in patients with large hemispheric infarction (LHI). We aimed to externally validate and comparethe predictive efficacy of these scores in LHI patients within 48 h of onset and not undergoing reperfusion therapy., Methods: Demographic, clinical and radiological data were retrospectively collected from LHI patients within 48 h of onset and not receiving reperfusion therapy. Patients were divided into MCE and non-MCE group. The calibration, discrimination, and clinical practicability of the three scores were verified using Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and decision curve analysis (DCA), respectively. Finally, continuous net reclassification improvement (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) were applied to determine the discrimination performance of the three scores., Results: A total of 314 patients were included in the study, with 122 cases being MCE patients. The Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test showed excellent fitting ability across the MBE (p = 0.36), EDEMA (p = 0.61), and modified EDEMA scores (p = 0.62) in our patients. The MBE, EDEMA, and modified EDEMA scores had the AUCs of 0.855 (95 % CI 0.818-0.898), 0.782 (95 % CI 0.727-0.837) and 0.878 (95 % CI 0.844-0.919) respectively. The MBE (NRI, 0.33; 95 % CI, 0.11-0.56, p = 0.003 and IDI, 0.11; 95 % CI, 0.03-0.18; p = 0.004) and modified EDEMA scores (NRI, 1.10; 95 % CI, 0.94-1.26; p < 0.001 and IDI, 0.17; 95 % CI, 0.13-0.20, p < 0.001) showed better performance than the EDEMA score. DCA demonstrated that the modified EDEMA score outperformed the other two scores, possessing heightened clinical usefulness., Conclusions: The MBE, EDEMA, and modified EDEMA scores for predicting MCE are also applicable in non-revascularization LHI patients within 48 h of onset. Both the MBE and modified EDEMA scores demonstrated higher predictive validity as predictive tools for MCE in LHI patients than the EDEMA score. The mechanisms underlying the distribution of many toxic metal(loid)s in shoots and metal(loid) transport to grains have been well documented in the quest for food safety but there remains a lack of knowledge on thallium (Tl) accumulation in food crops. Here, field investigations combined with a glasshouse pot experiment were conducted to investigate the characteristics of Tl distribution and accumulation in coix, a major food crop in south Guizhou province, China, and the role of node I in restricting Tl transport to the seed. Fourteen percent of coix seed samples collected from the Lanmuchang Tl-As-Hg mine contained higher Tl concentrations than the recommended limit for foods and feedstuffs in Germany (0.5 mg kg -1 ), with the highest exceedance rate of the metal(loid)s determined, when grown in soils surrounding the mine with a very high Tl concentration of 0.07-89.5 mg kg -1 and a general low pH of 4.19-6.48. Thallium concentrations were higher in coix nodes than in internodes, followed by roots and grains. The Tl translocation factors from node I to grains were 0.01-0.21 and were the lowest of any translocation factors between different tissues. Node I is therefore the key tissue restricting Tl transport to coix grains. Thallium was localized mainly in the diffuse vascular bundles (DVBs) in node I. The co-localization of Tl and sulfur in the DVBs and Tl contamination-induced phytochelatin (PC) accumulation indicate that Tl storage in the DVBs involving complexation with PCs in node I is an important process in Tl accumulation in coix grains. Moreover, the area of DVBs in node I increased with increasing soil Tl pollution level, providing more channels for Tl transport to the panicles and grains and thereby acting as a key factor restricting Tl transport to the grains. Ticks act as vectors and hosts of numerous arboviruses. Examples of medically important arboviruses include the tick-borne encephalitis virus, Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever, and severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome. Recently, some novel arboviruses have been identified in blood specimens of patients with unexplained fever and a history of tick bites in Inner Mongolia. Consequently, tick-borne viruses are a major focus of infectious disease research. However, the spectrum of tick-borne viruses in subtropical areas of China has yet to be sufficiently characterized. In this study, we collected 855 ticks from canine and bovine hosts in four locations in Hainan Province. The ticks were combined into 18 pools according to genus and location. Viral RNA-sequence libraries were subjected to transcriptome sequencing analysis. Molecular clues from metagenomic analyses were used to classify sequence reads into virus species, genera, or families. The diverse viral reads closely associated with mammals were assigned to 12 viral families and important tick-borne viruses, such as Jingmen, Beiji nairovirus, and Colorado tick fever. This study aimed to explore the temporal trends in years of life lost (YLL) and loss of life expectancy due to stroke and its subtypes in urban and rural areas in China during 2005-2020. Data were obtained from China National Mortality Surveillance System. Abbreviated life and stroke-eliminated life tables were generated to calculate loss of life expectancy. The YLL and loss of life expectancy due to stroke in urban and rural areas at both national and provincial level during 2005-2020 were estimated. In China, the age-standardised YLL rate due to stroke and its subtypes were higher in rural areas than in urban areas. The YLL rate due to stroke showed a downward trend in both urban and rural residents from 2005 to 2020, decreased by 39.9% and 21.5%, respectively. Loss of life expectancy caused by stroke decreased from 1.75 years to 1.70 years from 2005 to 2020. During which, loss of life expectancy due to intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) decreased from 0.94 years to 0.65 years, while that of ischaemic stroke (IS) increased from 0.62 years to 0.86 years. A slightly upward trend was observed in loss of life expectancy caused by subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH), from 0.05 years to 0.06 years. Loss of life expectancy due to ICH and SAH was always higher in rural areas than in urban areas, whereas that of IS was higher in urban areas than in rural areas. Rural males suffered the greatest loss of life expectancy due to ICH and SAH, while the highest loss of life expectancy caused by IS was found in urban females. Furthermore, Heilongjiang (2.25 years), Tibet (2.17 years) and Jilin (2.16 years) were found to have the highest loss of life expectancy caused by stroke in 2020. Loss of life expectancy caused by ICH and SAH was higher in western China, while the disease burden of IS was heavier in northeast China. Stroke remains a major public health problem in China, although the age-standardised YLL rate and loss of life expectancy due to stroke decreased. There is limited information describing the course and severity of illness in subjects infected by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 Omicron variant, especially in children. In this population-based cohort study, subjects with Omicron variant infection during the outbreak between January 8 and February 12, 2022 in Tianjin, China were included (n = 429). The main outcomes were the distribution of asymptomatic, mild, moderate, and severe patients, and clinical courses including the interval from positive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test to the onset, aggravation or relief of symptoms, and the interval of reversing positive PCR-test into negative, and length of hospital stay. Of the 429 subjects (113 [26.3%] children; 239 [55.7%] female; median age, 36 years [interquartile range 15.0 to 55.0 years]), the proportion (95% CI) of symptomatic subjects on admission was 95.6% (93.2%, 97.2%), including 60.4% (55.7%, 64.9%) mild, 35.0% (30.6%, 39.6%) moderate, and 0.2% (0.0%, 1.3%) severe. Compared with adults, children had lower proportion of moderate Covid-19 (8.8% vs 44.3%). On discharge, 45.9% (41.3%, 50.7%) and 42.2% (37.6%, 46.9%) of the subjects were diagnosed as having experienced mild and moderate Covid-19. The median (interquartile range) length of hospital stay was 14.0 (12.0, 15.0) days. The median interval of reversing positive PCR-test into negative was 12.0 (10.0, 13.0) days. Symptomatic and moderate Covid-19 in Omicron infections was common in adults and children, recovery from Omicron infections took around 2 weeks of time. Multiple sensor technologies including electronic nose (E-nose), electronic tongue (E-tongue), colorimeter and texture analyzer combined with chemometrics and dada fusion strategies were applied to characterize the flavor quality of traditional Chinese fermented soybean paste. Principal components analysis (PCA) was performed to divide the selected soybean pastes into three clusters which was not completely consistent with geographical regions of selected samples. Support vector machine regression (SVR) outperformed partial least squares regression (PLSR) in quantitatively predicting sensory attributes. Additionally, prediction of overall flavor of soybean paste based on data fusion of multiple sensor information, with a correlation coefficient of prediction (Rp) of 0.9636 based on SVR, was better than prediction of E-nose and E-tongue data fusion (Rp = 0.9267). Occasional species are often neglected in community ecology studies due to low abundance and frequence. However, they are closely related to biodiversity maintenance and marine conservation. We used index of relative importance (IRI), distribution center of gravity and Mann-Kendall trend test to elucidate the spatial and temporal distributions and changing trends of occasional fishes in Haizhou Bay based on the fishery resources survey data collected from 2013 to 2019. The occasional fishes in Haizhou Bay was identified based on IRI. Nine of the occasional species were selected to analyze the spatial distribution and interannual trends of relative biomass and occurrence frequency. The results showed that a total of 93 fish species were recorded in the multi-year survey in Haizhou Bay. Among which, 61 species had IRI<10, indicating the existence of a large number of occasional fishes in Haizhou Bay. The nine selected occasional species had distinctive spatial distribution characteristics. Erisphex pottii , Azuma emmnion , and Raja porosa were mainly distributed in the eastern part of Haizhou Bay, with a wide habitat range. Sphyraena pinguis , Coilia nasus , and Zebrias zebra were distributed in the western and southern parts, respectively. The rest species were mainly distributed in the southwestern part. In terms of interannual variation, the biomass and occurrence frequency of Coilia mystus , R. porosa , A. emmnion , and S. pinguis showed fluctuating changes, while Odontamblyopus rubicundus and Ctenotrypauchen microcephalus showed an increasing trend. The biomass and occurrence of Z. zebra , C. nasus and E. pottii gradually decreased with no catch in recent years. This study would contribute to the understanding of the spatial and temporal distribution of occasional species, and provide guidance for the conservation of occasional biological resources and species diversity, especially for the establishment of marine protected areas.

Objective: The belief in upward social mobility promotes the mental health and social adaptation of disadvantaged adolescents. However, efforts for upward mobility may facilitate psychosocial adaptation while undermining physical health for minority youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. Therefore, we aimed to examine how social mobility belief is associated with mental and physical health among Chinese rural-to-urban migrant adolescents and explore whether positive affect acts as a protective factor moderating these relationships., Method: A total of 158 rural-to-urban migrant adolescents aged 10-14 completed a self-report questionnaire and underwent medical examination., Results: Social mobility belief and positive affect were positively related to mental health (general self-efficacy). Positive affect interacted with social mobility belief in predicting physical health (self-rated health and allostatic load). For migrant adolescents with low levels of positive affect, strong belief in social mobility was associated with poor self-rated health and high allostatic load. For migrant adolescents with high levels of positive affect, their physical health was better and not associated with social mobility belief., Conclusions: Social mobility belief showed a double-edged sword effect; it was positively associated with mental adaptation while negatively associated with physical health among Chinese rural-to-urban migrant adolescents. Pachypleurosaurs (Pachypleurosauroidea) are a group of small to medium-sized, lizard-like marine reptiles in the Early to Middle Triassic, including Pachypleurosauridae, Keichousauridae and closely related taxa. The group is generally considered as a sauropterygian radiation, but its phylogenetic interrelationships remain highly debated. Here, we present a new pachypleurosaurid, Honghesaurus longicaudalis gen. et sp. nov., from the early Middle Triassic (Anisian, ~ 244 Ma) marine deposits in Luxi, Yunnan, China. The discovery documents the first really long-tailed pachypleurosaur with totally 121 (69 caudal) vertebrae, providing new evidence for the vertebral multiplication and ecological adaption of this group. The long trunk associated with an incredibly long tail could provide Honghesaurus the advantage of maneuverability and energy efficiency for lateral undulatory swimming. Honghesaurus, although possessing a series of autapomorphies, fills the morphological gap between Qianxisaurus from the Ladinian Xingyi Biota and Wumengosaurus from the Anisian Panxian Biota. Phylogenetic studies unite these three pachypleurosaurids as a monophyletic clade above European pachypleurosaurid clades and provide new insights into the interrelationships of this group. Headspace solid-phase microextraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC/MS) with electronic nose (E-nose) and electronic tongue (E-tongue) was applied for flavor characterization of traditional Chinese fermented soybean paste. Considering geographical distribution and market representation, twelve kinds of samples were selected to investigate the feasibility. A total of 57 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were identified, of which 8 volatiles were found in all samples. Linear discrimination analysis (LDA) of fusion data exhibited a high discriminant accuracy of 97.22%. Compared with partial least squares regression (PLSR), support vector machine regression (SVR) analysis exhibited a more satisfying performance on predicting the content of esters, total acids, reducing sugar, salinity and amino acid nitrogen, of which correlation coefficients for prediction (R p ) were about 0.803, 0.949, 0.960, 0.896, 0.923 respectively. Background: Understanding the temporal trend of the disease burden of stroke and its attributable risk factors in China, especially at provincial levels, is important for effective prevention strategies and improvement. The aim of this analysis from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) is to investigate the disease burden of stroke and its risk factors at national and provincial levels in China from 1990 to 2019., Methods: Following the methodology in the GBD 2019, the incidence, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) of stroke cases in the Chinese population were estimated by sex, age, year, stroke subtypes (ischaemic stroke, intracerebral haemorrhage, and subarachnoid haemorrhage), and across 33 provincial administrative units in China from 1990 to 2019. Attributable mortality and DALYs of underlying risk factors were calculated by a comparative risk assessment., Findings: In 2019, there were 3·94 million (95% uncertainty interval 3·43-4·58) new stroke cases in China. The incidence rate of stroke increased by 86·0% (73·2-99·0) from 1990, reaching 276·7 (241·3-322·0) per 100 000 population in 2019. The age-standardised incidence rate declined by 9·3% (3·3-15·5) from 1990 to 2019. Among 28·76 million (25·60-32·21) prevalent cases of stroke in 2019, 24·18 million (20·80-27·87) were ischaemic stroke, 4·36 million (3·69-5·05) were intracerebral haemorrhage, and 1·58 million (1·32-1·91) were subarachnoid haemorrhage. The prevalence rate increased by 106·0% (93·7-118·8) and age-standardised prevalence rate increased by 13·2% (7·7-19·1) from 1990 to 2019. In 2019, there were 2·19 million (1·89-2·51) deaths and 45·9 million (39·8-52·3) DALYs due to stroke. The mortality rate increased by 32·3% (8·6-59·0) from 1990 to 2019. Over the same period, the age-standardised mortality rate decreased by 39·8% (28·6-50·7) and the DALY rate decreased by 41·6% (30·7-50·9). High systolic blood pressure, ambient particulate matter pollution exposure, smoking, and diet high in sodium were four major risk factors for stroke burden in 2019. Moreover, we found marked differences of stroke burden and attributable risk factors across provinces in China from 1990 to 2019., Interpretation: The disease burden of stroke is still severe in China, although the age-standardised incidence and mortality rates have decreased since 1990. The stroke burden in China might be reduced through blood pressure management, lifestyle interventions, and air pollution control.
