Purpose: This study analyzes the relationship between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, vaginal microecology, and cervical lesions to provide a basis for the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer (CC) in the Xinjiang region. Methods: Real‐time quantitative PCR was used for HPV genotyping and viral load. The Gram staining and dry biochemical enzyme kit were utilized to diagnose vaginal secretions. The χ2 test and Logistic regression analysis were used for statistical analysis. Results: The HPV infection rate among women in the Xinjiang region was 30.29%, of which the single HPV infection accounts for 77%. HPV16 and HPV52 were the main infection types. There was significant differences in the HPV infection rate and infection types among the Han, Uighur, Hui, and Kazakh ethnic groups. The viral load of HPV16 and HPV52 increases with the upgrade of cervical lesions. There were significant differences in vaginal microecology evaluation indicators H2O2, SNA, LE, GUS, trichomonas, clue cells, and lactobacilli among different ethnic groups. HPV negative patients with varying grades of cervical lesions exhibit a notable variance in H2O2 and LE, which is statistically significant. Single HPV infection and high viral load HPV significantly increase the risk of CC. Conclusions: This study indicates that HPV infection and vaginal microecology differ among ethnic groups, which have a strong correlation with the progression of CC, offering guidance on CC screening and interventions in the Xinjiang area. Background: Depression is a major health condition among the aging population. Previous studies indicated that edentulism was a risk factor for depression. The link between edentulism and depression has not been fully clarified. Objectives: This study aimed to estimate whether chewing difficulties play a mediating role in the association between edentulism and depression among middle‐aged and older populations with national cross‐sectional data. Methods: Data were obtained from the latest fourth wave of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). The outcome variable was set as depression, which was measured by the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES‐D‐10). Independent and mediated variables were separately set as self‐assessed edentulism and chewing difficulties. The nearest neighbour propensity score matching (PSM) method was used to construct a matching group to balance the basic characteristics of individuals with and without edentulism with minimised bias in the estimation. Causal mediation analysis was performed to estimate the degree of contribution of chewing difficulties to the association between edentulism and depression. Several sensitivity analyses were performed to evaluate the robustness of the primary result. Results: A total of 15 853 individuals remained for analysis. After PSM, 809 individuals with edentulism and 2628 without edentulism remained for analysis. Among the matched individuals, the mean age was 66.3 ± 9.2 years, 58.5% were female, 78.8% lived in rural areas, 23.5% had edentulism, 51.1% had depressive symptoms, and 50.1% had chewing difficulties. Logistic regression results showed that a higher incidence of edentulism was associated with a higher rate of depression (OR: 1.39, 95% CI: 1.19–1.63) in the matching group. Causal mediation analysis results indicated that the average mediation effect of chewing difficulties on the association between edentulism and depression was 0.010 (95% CI: 0.005–0.015), and the average direct effect was 0.072 (95% CI: 0.036–0.11). The mediation proportion of chewing difficulties was 11.7% (95% CI: 0.079–0.21). Conclusion: A higher prevalence of edentulism was associated with a higher rate of depression among middle‐aged and elderly populations. Chewing difficulties moderately mediated the association between edentulism and depression. Fundamental oral function should not be neglected to improve mental health among the aging population. Objective: To propose a scoring system based on laryngoscopic characteristics for the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant vocal fold leukoplakia. Methods: Laryngoscopic images from 200 vocal fold leukoplakia cases were retrospectively analysed. The laryngoscopic signs of benign and malignant vocal fold leukoplakia were compared, and statistically significant features were assigned and accumulated to establish the leukoplakia finding score. Results: A total of five indicators associated with malignant vocal fold leukoplakia were included to construct the leukoplakia finding score, with a possible range of 0–10 points. A score of 6 points or more was indicative of a diagnosis of malignant vocal fold leukoplakia. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy values of the leukoplakia finding score were 93.8 per cent, 83.6 per cent and 86.0 per cent, respectively. The consistency in the leukoplakia finding score obtained by different laryngologists was strong (kappa = 0.809). Background and Aim: Little is known about whether early menopause in Chinese ethnicity is associated with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). We aimed to determine whether self-reported early menopause (either surgical or natural menopause at an age <50 year) was associated with first AMI in Chinese women. Methods: The study population was from the INTERHEART China Study, part of the INTERHEART global study. INTERHEART global study was a standardized case–control study that was designed to evaluate the risk factors for first AMI among 52 countries. Data for demographic factors, education, income, and cardiovascular risk factors were obtained by structured questionnaires. A standard set of questions that inquired about menstrual history was included in the interview. Results: Of the 1,771 Chinese women, 1,563 (88.3%) reported either natural or surgical menopause. In univariate logistic regression model, women with early menopause had higher risk of AMI (odds ratio [OR]: 1.51; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.23–1.87). After controlling for age, birth control measures, type of menopause, and other traditional risk factors (including waist/hip ratio, lifestyle factors, history of hypertension and diabetes, psychosocial factors, and apolipoprotein B [ApoB]/A1 [ApoA1]), the risk for AMI remained (OR: 1.36; 95% CI: 1.03–1.79). The population attributable risk for AMI in women with early menopause at <50 years was 10.1% (95% CI: 4.0–20.0) compared with women who had menopause at ≥50 years. Background: Delirium is one of the most common complications in critically ill children. Once delirium occurs, it will cause physical and psychological distress in children and increase the length of their ICU stay and hospitalization costs. Understanding the risk factors for delirium in critically ill children can help develop targeted nursing interventions to reduce the incidence of delirium. Aims: To investigate the incidence and the risk factors of delirium in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU). Study design: We performed a prospective observational study in critically ill patients in the PICU between February and July 2020. Delirium was diagnosed by the Cornell Assessment of Paediatric Delirium (CAPD) and the Richmond Agitation Sedation Scale and analysed via univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression to determine the independent risk factors of delirium in critically ill children. Results: The study enrolled 315 patients ranging in age from 1–202 (65.3–54.3) months, with 56.2% (n = 177) being male. The incidence of delirium was 29.2% (n = 92) according to CAPD criteria. Among them, 33 cases (35.9%) were of hyperactive delirium, 16 cases (17.4%) were of hypoactive delirium, and 43 cases (46.7%) were of mixed delirium. By using stepwise logistic regression, the independent risk factors of delirium included mechanical ventilation (odds ratio [OR], 11.470; 95% confidence interval [CI], 4.283–30.721), nervous system disease (OR, 5.596; 95%CI, 2.445 to 12.809), developmental delay (OR, 5.157; 95% CI, 1.990–13.363), benzodiazepine (OR, 3.359; 95% CI 1.278–8.832), number of catheters (OR, 1.918; 95% CI, 1.425 to 2.582), and age (OR, 0.985; 95% confidence interval CI, 0.976–0.993). Conclusions: Delirium is a common complication in the PICU. The independent risk factors include mechanical ventilation, nervous system disease, developmental delay, benzodiazepines, higher number of catheters, and younger age. This study may help develop intervention strategies to reduce the incidence of delirium in critically ill children by targeting modifiable risk factors. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Recommendations for practice include paying attention to high‐risk children in the ICU who are prone to delirium, removing influencing factors as soon as possible, and providing targeted nursing interventions. Simple Summary: Salmonella is an important pathogen, which causes a variety of animal salmonellosis and foodborne diseases in humans. In recent years, due to the abuse of antimicrobials, the rapid emergence of resistant Salmonella, especially extended spectrum β-lactamase-positive strains (ESBL-producers), has brought great challenges to animal industries and public health safety. The pathogenicity of Salmonella depends on a variety of virulence factors coded by genes in chromosomal pathogenicity islands (SPI) and plasmids. The antibiotic resistance and pathogenic potential of Salmonella have been studied extensively. However, there are gaps that still exist in our understanding of the relationship between resistance and virulence. In this study, we collected 117 Salmonella isolates from diseased chickens in Sichuan Province of China from 2019 to 2021, and investigated antimicrobial resistance (AMR) patterns, including extended spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) resistance, the prevalence and con-translation of ESBL and virulence genes, and sequence type (ST) among these isolates. The Salmonella isolates showed different frequencies of resistance to antimicrobials, 41.03% of which were ESBL-producers. ESBL genes, such as blaCTX-M-55 (63.29%), blaOXA-31 (26.58%), blaCTX-M-65 (20.25%), and blaTEM-1 (18.99%), were detected. Moreover, the 117 isolates had 11 virulence genes, with frequencies ranging from 29.06% to 100%. There were associations between resistance to cephalosporins and the ESBL genes. The blaCTX-M-55 showed the largest effect on the resistance and there was also a significant association between the presence of most virulence genes and ESBL genes. All isolates were divided into 11 types. The co-transfer of ESBL and virulence genes was observed in the plasmid conjugation test. From this study, we can conclude that Salmonella isolates from chicken were common carriers of ESBLs and multiple virulence genes, and the horizontal transfer played a key role in the dissemination of antimicrobial resistance and pathogenesis. Importantly, the interaction of resistance and virulence factors reinforces the marked pathogenic potential of Salmonella. The aim of this study was to explore the association between antimicrobial resistance, ESBL genes, and virulence genes of Salmonella isolates. From 2019 to 2021, a total of 117 Salmonella isolates were obtained from symptomatic chickens in Sichuan Province, China. The strains were tested for antimicrobial resistance and the presence of ESBL according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) instructions. The presence of ESBL genes and genes for virulence was determined using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). In addition, Multilocus Sequence Typing (MLST) was applied to confirm the molecular genotyping. Moreover, the mechanism of ESBL and virulence gene transfer and the relationships between the resistance phenotype, ESBL genes, and virulence genes were explored. The isolates exhibited different frequencies of resistance to antibiotics (resistance rates ranged from 21.37% to 97.44%), whereas 68.38% and 41.03% of isolates were multi-drug resistance (MDR) and ESBL-producers, respectively. In the PCR analysis, blaCTX-M was the most prevalent ESBL genotype (73.42%, 58/79), and blaCTX-M-55 showed the most significant effect on the resistance to cephalosporins as tested by logistic regression analysis. Isolates showed a high carriage rate of invA, avrA, sopB, sopE, ssaQ, spvR, spvB, spvC, stn, and bcfC (ranged from 51.28% to 100%). MLST analysis revealed that the 117 isolates were divided into 11 types, mainly ST92, ST11, and ST3717. Of 48 ESBL-producers, 21 transconjugants were successfully obtained by conjugation. Furthermore, ESBL and spv virulence genes were obtained simultaneously in 15 transconjugants. These results highlighted that Salmonella isolates were common carriers of ESBLs and multiple virulence genes. Horizontal transfer played a key role in disseminating antimicrobial resistance and pathogenesis. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously monitor the use of antimicrobials and the prevalence of AMR and virulence in Salmonella from food animals and to improve the antibiotic stewardship for salmonellosis. Objective: To investigate the factors related to renal impairment in patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) from the perspective of integrated Chinese and Western medicine. Methods: Totally 492 patients with DKD in 8 Chinese hospitals from October 2017 to July 2019 were included. According to Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) staging guidelines, patients were divided into a chronic kidney disease (CKD) 1–3 group and a CKD 4–5 group. Clinical data were collected, and logistic regression was used to analyze the factors related to different CKD stages in DKD patients. Results: Demographically, male was a factor related to increased CKD staging in patients with DKD (OR=3.100, P=0.002). In clinical characteristics, course of diabetes >60 months (OR=3.562, P=0.010), anemia (OR=4.176, P<0.001), hyperuricemia (OR=3.352, P<0.001), massive albuminuria (OR=4.058, P=0.002), atherosclerosis (OR=2.153, P=0.007) and blood deficiency syndrome (OR=1.945, P=0.020) were factors related to increased CKD staging in patients with DKD. Conclusions: Male, course of diabetes >60 months, anemia, hyperuricemia, massive proteinuria, atherosclerosis, and blood deficiency syndrome might indicate more severe degree of renal function damage in patients with DKD. Does social class matter in understanding health inequalities in early 21st century China, when the country experienced unprecedented social stratification? Using nationally representative data from the latest waves of China Household Income Project surveys, we examine to what extent an individual's health is structured by social class and how that structure evolved. We draw on a neo-Marxist measure of social class to tap into the hidden mechanism that engenders and sustains inequalities. Four classes are defined based primarily on their relationships to productive resources: owners/managers, professionals/skilled workers, less-skilled workers, and farmers. Such a measure has not been considered in the health gradient literature in the Chinese context. Our results show that, despite remedial policies that helped mitigate economic inequalities, inequalities in health have mostly widened during the early years of the current century between the 'haves', who own productive assets and/or managerial authority, and the 'have-nots'. In 2002, self-rated health (SRH) was not clearly associated with class rank; in 2007, when China's economic inequality reached a historical zenith, a gradational pattern between SRH and class emerged, and the largest health gap was found between the class of owners/managers and farmers; in 2013, when China's income inequality reached a plateau, the health gap between owners/managers and less-skilled workers grew larger. Further, we identify job security as a mediator that links class and health among the lower social strata. Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is a life‐threatening infectious disease caused by the SFTS virus (SFTSV). This study aimed to evaluate the predictive power of C‐reactive protein to lymphocyte ratio (CLR) and establish an early‐warning model for SFTS mortality. We retrospectively analyzed hospitalized SFTS patients in six clinical centers from May 2011 to 2022. The efficacy of CLR prediction was evaluated by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. A nomogram was established and validated. Eight hundred and eighty‐two SFTS patients (median age 64 years, 48.5% male) were enrolled in this study, with a mortality rate of 17.8%. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of CLR was 0.878 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.850−0.903, p < 0.001), which demonstrates high predictive strength. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression selected seven potential predictors. Multivariate logistic regression analysis determined three independent risk factors, including CLR, to construct the nomogram. The performance of the nomogram displayed excellent discrimination and calibration, with significant net benefits in clinical uses. CLR is a brand‐new predictor for SFTS mortality. Objective: Our objective is to validate the effectiveness of the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria in malnutrition diagnosis compared with Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) and assess the impact of malnutrition diagnosed using GLIM criteria on the clinical outcomes of patients with GC.Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data of 895 patients who underwent radical gastrectomy at the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University. Nutrition assessment was performed on all patients according to the GLIM criteria and PG-SGA. The κ statistic was used to evaluate the agreement between two methods. Multivariate logistic regression and Cox regression based on single-factor analysis were used to predict postoperative complications and overall survival rates.Results: Based on the GLIM criteria, 38.3% of the patients were diagnosed as malnourished, including 21.7% Stage I (moderate malnutrition) and 16.6% Stage II (severe malnutrition). GLIM criteria had a moderate agreement with PG-SGA (κ = 0.548). Patients in the Stage II malnutrition group had a higher incidence of complications, a longer postoperative length of stay, and higher hospitalization costs. Logistic regression showed that Stage II malnutrition was an independent risk predictor of postoperative complications (odds ratio, 3.28; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.18-4.94). Furthermore, Cox regression analysis showed that both Stage I (hazard ratio [HR], 1.52; 95% CI, 1.11-2.07; P = .009) and Stage II (HR, 1.85; 95% CI, 1.34-2.53; P < .001) malnutrition were independent risk predictors of overall survival.Conclusion: Diagnosis of malnutrition according to the GLIM criteria is useful in predicting the adverse postoperative clinical outcomes of patients with gastric cancer. Simple Summary: Perineural invasion (PNI) is present in 17–75% of prostate cancer patients and is an important mechanism for cancer progression, leading to poor prognoses. An optimized preoperative technique is needed to detect PNI in prostate cancer patients and administer the best treatment. The aim of our retrospective study was to develop a model based on high-throughput radiomic features of bi-parametric MRI combined with clinical factors that can predict PNI status in high-grade prostate cancers. In total, 183 high-grade PCa patients were included in this retrospective study, and the radiomics model based on 13 selected features of bi-parametric MRI showed better discrimination than did the conventional model in the test cohort (area under the curve (AUC): 0.908). Discrimination efficiency improved when the radiomics and clinical models were combined (AUC: 0.947). This improved model may help predict PNI in prostate cancer patients and allow more personalized clinical decision-making. Purpose: To explore the role of bi-parametric MRI radiomics features in identifying PNI in high-grade PCa and to further develop a combined nomogram with clinical information. Methods: 183 high-grade PCa patients were included in this retrospective study. Tumor regions of interest (ROIs) were manually delineated on T2WI and DWI images. Radiomics features were extracted from lesion area segmented images obtained. Univariate logistic regression analysis and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method were used for feature selection. A clinical model, a radiomics model, and a combined model were developed to predict PNI positive. Predictive performance was estimated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, calibration curves, and decision curves. Results: The differential diagnostic efficiency of the clinical model had no statistical difference compared with the radiomics model (area under the curve (AUC) values were 0.766 and 0.823 in the train and test group, respectively). The radiomics model showed better discrimination in both the train cohort and test cohort (train AUC: 0.879 and test AUC: 0.908) than each subcategory image (T2WI train AUC: 0.813 and test AUC: 0.827; DWI train AUC: 0.749 and test AUC: 0.734). The discrimination efficiency improved when combining the radiomics and clinical models (train AUC: 0.906 and test AUC: 0.947). Preterm birth is the leading cause of perinatal mortality and morbidity. Some prospective cohort studies suggested that fish and shellfish consumption may affect the incidence of preterm birth. However, conflicting evidence exists on the relationship between fish and shellfish consumption and preterm birth. A total of 10 179 women from Gansu province were interviewed after delivery to collect information on their past intake of fish and shellfish using FFQ. Logistic regression models were used to estimate OR and 95 % CI to examine the association between fish and shellfish consumption and preterm birth and its clinical subtypes. Fish and shellfish consumption was associated with reduced risk of preterm birth (OR = 0·65, 95 % CI 0·56, 0·77). Increasing frequency of fish and shellfish consumption, compared with no fish and shellfish consumption, was associated with decreasing odds of preterm birth. Besides, increasing weekly total amount of fish and shellfish consumption, compared with no fish and shellfish consumption, was also associated with decreasing odds of preterm birth. Significant trend effect was also seen between fish and shellfish consumption and very preterm birth (Pfor trend = 0·001) and spontaneous preterm birth (Pfor trend = 0·003). Interaction was observed between total fish and shellfish consumption with maternal age (Pfor interaction = 0·041) and pre-pregnancy BMI underweight (Pfor interaction = 0·012). Our findings showed that maternal fish and shellfish consumption was associated with lower incidence of preterm birth.We recommend for the national guideline of ≥350 g/week of fish and shellfish consumption among pregnant women. Objective. The objective is to investigate the relationship between sepsis complicated with heart failure and the expression levels of CXC chemokine ligand 8 (CXCL8) and endothelin-1 (ET-1). Methods. A total of 128 sepsis patients accepted by the Ganzhou People's Hospital from March 2019 to December 2021 were collected as observation objects, and they were separated into a simple sepsis group (86 cases) and a complicated heart failure group (42 cases) according to whether they were accompanied by heart failure or not. General data such as Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) were collected; the expression levels of serum CXCL8 and ET-1 were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA); the cardiac function parameters such as left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), stroke volume (SV), cardiac output (CO), and cardiac index (CI) were measured by color Doppler ultrasound; the correlation between serum CXCL8 and ET-1 expression levels with clinical data and cardiac function parameters in patients with sepsis complicated with heart failure was analyzed by the Pearson correlation; and the influencing factors of sepsis complicated with heart failure were analyzed by the logistic regression analysis. Results. The serum CXCL8 and ET-1 expression levels, SOFA score, and APACHE II score in the complicated heart failure group were higher than those in the simple sepsis group (P < 0.05), and LVEF, SV, CO, and CI in the complicated heart failure group were lower than those in the simple sepsis group (P < 0.05). Serum CXCL8 was positively correlated with ET-1 in patients with sepsis complicated with heart failure (r = 0.531, P < 0.05), and the two were positively correlated with SOFA score and APACHE II score (P < 0.05) and were negatively correlated with LVEF, SV, CO, and CI (P < 0.05). CXCL8 and ET-1 were independent risk factors for sepsis complicated with heart failure (P < 0.05). Conclusion. The expression levels of serum CXCL8 and ET-1 in sepsis patients with heart failure are significantly increased, and both are risk factors for heart failure in sepsis patients. Objective: This study aimed to explore the relationship between homocysteine (Hcy) and diabetic retinopathy (DR) and the impacts of the Hcy pathway on this relationship against this background. Methods: This study retrieved 1979 patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) from the First Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning Medical University in Jinzhou, Liaoning Province, China. Multiple logistic regression was used to analyze the effects of Hcy cycle on the relationship between Hcy and DR. Spearman's rank correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between risk factors related to DR progression and Hcy. Finally, the results of logistic regression were supplemented by mediation analysis. Results: We found there was a negative correlation between low concentration of Hcy and DR (OR : 0.83, 95%CI: 0.69-1). After stratifying all patients by cysteine (Cys) or Methionine (Met), this relationship remained significant only in low concentration of Cys (OR: 0.75, 95%CI: 0.61-0.94). Through the RCS curve, we found that the effect of Hcy on DR presents a U-shaped curve relationship. Mediating effect in Met and Hcy cycles was also significant [Total effect c (OR: 0.968, 95%CI: 0.938-0.998), Direct effect path c' (OR: 0.969, 95%CI: 0.940-0.999), Path a (OR: 1.047, 95%CI: 1.004-1.091), Path b (OR: 0.964, 95%CI: 0.932-0.998)]. Conclusions: The relationship between Hcy and DR presents a U-shaped curve and the homocysteine cycle pathway has an impact on it. And too low concentration of Hcy indicates a lack of other substances, such as vitamins. It is suggested that the progression of DR is the result of a combination of many risk factors. Introduction: Vitamin D-binding protein (VDBP) is correlated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) through the biological functions of regulating plasma vitamin D (VD) level and the inflammatory process. Objective: This study aims to investigate the effects of VD level and VDBP gene polymorphisms on the risk of NAFLD in a Chinese population. Methods: Plasma 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 levels were measured and seven VDBP candidate genetic variants (rs222020, rs2282679, rs4588, rs1155563, rs7041, rs16847024, rs3733359) were genotyped among participants in this case-control study. The control group was frequency-matched to the NAFLD case group by age and gender. Correlation analysis and multiple linear regressions were used to screen determinants of 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 levels. Multivariable unconditional logistic regression was performed to estimate odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI). The prediction capability of models containing independent factors was estimated by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve and Hosmer-Lemeshow test. Results: Age, body mass index, and triacylglycerol were independent factors influencing VD levels. Participants with low VD levels had significantly higher prevalence of NAFLD compared to subjects with normal VD levels (p < 0.001). A low VD level contributed to increased the risk of NAFLD, independent of metabolic factors known to affect VD levels (adjusted OR = 2.282, 95% CI = 1.422–3.661, p = 0.001). Logistic regression analysis showed that individuals carrying rs7041-G allele had a significantly decreased the risk of NAFLD occurrence compared to T allele (additive model: adjusted OR = 0.814, 95% CI = 0.713–0.929, p = 0.002; codominant model: adjusted OR = 0.623, 95% CI = 0.449–0.866, p = 0.005), after adjusting for age, gender, and overweight. Stratification by multiple metabolic disorders did not alter this relationship. Moreover, we developed a simple model including age, gender, metabolic disorders, and VDBP single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) to assess NAFLD risk, an AUC of which being 0.817, significantly higher than the model not included VDBP SNP, with Hosmer-Lemeshow test fitting well (p = 0.182). Conclusions: Low plasma VD levels may increase susceptibility to NAFLD, while rs7041-G allele in VDBP contributed to a decreased NAFLD risk among Chinese population. Aim: To examine whether various aspects of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are associated with comorbid cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and diabetes among middle‐aged and old adults in China. Methods: Using the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study survey and the 2014 Life History survey, in total, 17 115 respondents aged ≥45 years were included. Logistic regressions were applied to estimate the relationship between aspects of ACEs and diagnosis of both CVDs and diabetes while adjusting for adulthood demographics, health and health behaviors. Results: Childhood hunger (OR = 1.75, P < 0.01), childhood socioeconomic status (OR = 1.45, P < 0.05) and abuse from father (OR = 1.50, P < 0.05) were significantly associated with greater odds of comorbid CVDs and diabetes above and beyond adulthood characteristics. In addition, the effects of these ACEs on comorbidity were stronger than their effects on the single chronic condition. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that, for middle‐aged and old Chinese adults, ACEs could have long‐lasting impacts on multiple chronic conditions in later life. Background: Distribution of physicians is a key component of access to health care. Although there is extensive research on urban-rural disparities in physician distribution, limited attention has been directed to the heterogeneity across urban areas. This research depicts variations in physician density across over 600 cities in the context of China's rapid urbanization. Methods: Data came from National Census Surveys and China statistical yearbooks, 2000–2003, and 2010–2013. Cities were characterized in terms of not only administrative level but also geographic regions and urban agglomerations. We analyzed variations in physician supply by applying generalized estimating equations with an ordinal logistic linking function. Results: Although overall physician density increased between 2003 and 2013, with population and socioeconomic attributes adjusted, physician density declined in urban China. On average, urban districts had a higher physician density than county-level cities, but there were regional variations. Cities in urban agglomerations and those outsides did not differ in physician density. Conclusion: Despite the reduced inequality between 2003 and 2013, the growth in physician density did not appear to be commensurate with the changes in population health demand. Aim: This study aims to evaluate the trends and geographic variations of incident diabetes as well as the corresponding sex differences in China. Methods: The open cohort study derived data of 16,610 individuals from the China Health and Nutrition Survey 1997–2015. Direct standardisation was employed to calculate the age‐standardised diabetes incidence. Mixed effects logistic regression models with interaction terms were performed to examine variations in incident diabetes. Socio‐demographic (age, sex, marital status, racial compositions and educational attainment) and lifestyle attributes (smoking history, BMI and waist circumference) were sequentially included as covariates. Results: Overall age‐standardised diabetes incidence increased from 2.94 per 1000 person‐years (95% CI, 2.44–3.44) in 1997–2004 to 5.54 (95% CI, 4.94–6.14) in 2009–2015. Models with interaction terms suggest that the increase among men was higher than that among women (wave 2006–2009 × Female: OR = 0.45, 95% CI 0.28–0.72). Age‐standardised incidence of diabetes varied across regions, ranging from 5.67 (95% CI, 4.95–6.40) in Eastern China to 2.69 (95% CI 2.19–3.19) in Western China. Subsequent modelling analyses suggest that the geographic variations could be mostly explained by the variations in the BMI and waist circumference across regions. Conclusions: Results suggest that the incidence of self‐reported diabetes approximately doubled during the study period. The increase among men was steeper than that among women. Objective: To analyze the differences of early atherosclerosis indices in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with different degrees of obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and explore the correlation between them, so as to provide a new clinical basis for the prevention and treatment of early atherosclerosis in patients with T2DM and OSAHS. Methods. A prospective study was conducted in 312 patients with T2DM and snoring who were hospitalized in the Department of Endocrinology, Peking University International Hospital from January 2017 to January 2020. According to the monitoring results, 312 patients were divided into 4 groups including the control group (208 cases), mild OSAHS group (18 cases), moderate OSAHS group (38 cases), and severe OSAHS group (48 cases). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the early atherosclerosis indices including brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (PWV) and ankle-brachial index (ABI) in patients with T2DM coexistence with different degrees of OSAHS. Results. (1) As the degree of OSAHS increased, ABI decreased gradually and was lower than that in the control group, but PWV increased and was higher than that in the control group (p < 0.05 , respectively). (2) The apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) positively correlated with PWV (r = 0.36 , p < 0.05) and negatively correlated with ABI (r = − 0.37 , p < 0.05). (3) Multivariate logistic regression showed that after adjusting for age, gender, duration, BMI, blood pressure, blood glucose, blood lipid, and other factors, OSAHS was a risk factor of lower extremity arterial disease (LEAD) in patients with T2DM. With the increase of degree of OSAHS, the risk of lower extremity atherosclerosis gradually increased. Conclusion. OSAHS is an independent risk factor of LEAD in patients with T2DM, and with the increase of AHI, the ABI and PWV have changed, which provides a new clinical basis for the prevention and the treatment of early atherosclerosis in patients with T2DM and OSAHS. The aim of this study was to estimate the Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma hominis infection prevalence and antibiotic resistance levels in gynecological outpatients. Clinical characteristics and laboratory data of gynecological outpatients of the Fourth People's Hospital of Chongqing from 2015 to 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Antibiotic resistance levels in U. urealyticum and M. hominis were defined by a commercial Mycoplasma kit for antibiotic susceptibility testing. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed to evaluate risk factors associated with Mycoplasma isolation. Comparisons of yearly distributions and resistance rates were assessed by chi-square tests. Fifty-six percent of gynecological outpatients were positive for U. urealyticum, and 11.02% were positive for M. hominis. In the univariate analysis, women aged 30–39 years or with a history of pregnancy or gynecological diseases had an increased risk for Mycoplasma isolation, while women who were postmenopausal or had an education level of undergraduate degree or above had a decreased risk of Mycoplasma isolation. In the multivariate logistic regression model, an independent risk factor for Mycoplasma isolation was a history of gynecological diseases, while a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or above were protective factors against Mycoplasma isolation. There were distinctly gradual increases in the positivity rates of U. urealyticum and M. hominis from 2015 to 2018 and an overall increasing trend of resistance to ten antibiotics among U. urealyticum and M. hominis. The top three antibiotics associated with resistance were ofloxacin, sparfloxacin, and levofloxacin. Doxycycline, josamycin, and minocycline were preferred because they had the lowest levels of resistance. Increases in the prevalence of infection and antibiotic resistance in U. urealyticum and M. hominis were observed from 2015 to 2018, clearly confirming the necessity to monitor the standardized administration of antibiotics. Background: A hallmark of eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (eCRSwNP) is mucosal eosinophil-predominant inflammation. Nasal nitric oxide (nNO) is a known biomarker of eosinophilic inflammation in the upper airway. However, the utility of nNO measurement in the upper airway remains controversial. The present study aimed to compare the use of other clinical parameters with nNO to prediagnose patients with eCRSwNP from Central China. Methods: From June 2019 to December 2019, 70 patients with CRSwNP undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery and 30 healthy subjects were enrolled. nNO measurements were performed in all of these subjects. Computed tomography scans, full blood count with differential analysis, and determination of total immunoglobulin E (total IgE) and plasma cytokines were performed before surgery. Receiver operating characteristic curves and logistic regression analysis were used to assess the predictive potential of the clinical parameters. Results: We recruited 24 patients with eCRSwNP and 46 with noneosinophilic CRSwNP (non-eCRSwNP). In patients with eCRSwNP, nNO levels were significantly higher than those in patients with non-eCRSwNP (p < 0.0001). Blood eosinophil percentages and counts, total IgE, and CT-derived ethmoid sinus and maxillary sinus ratio (E/M ratio) were all significantly higher compared with those in patients with non-eCRSwNP (p < 0.05). To diagnose eCRSwNP, the highest area under the curve (0.803) was determined for nNO. At a cutoff of >329 parts per billion (ppb), the sensitivity was 83.30% and the specificity was 71.70%. However, the levels of plasma cytokines Th1/Th2 were not significantly different between the histological types of CRSwNP (p > 0.05). The accurate identification and prediction of high-cost Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients is important for addressing the economic burden of COPD. The objectives of this study were to use machine learning approaches to identify and predict potential high-cost patients and explore the key variables of the forecasting model, by comparing differences in the predictive performance of different variable sets. Machine learning approaches were used to estimate the medical costs of COPD patients using the Medical Insurance Data of a large city in western China. The prediction models used were logistic regression, random forest (RF), and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost). All three models had good predictive performance. The XGBoost model outperformed the others. The areas under the ROC curve for Logistic Regression, RF and XGBoost were 0.787, 0.792 and 0.801. The precision and accuracy metrics indicated that the methods achieved correct and reliable results. Background: Due to the drastic surge of COVID-19 patients, many countries are considering or already graduating health professional students early to aid professional resources. We aimed to assess outbreak-related psychological distress and symptoms of acute stress reaction (ASR) in health professional students and to characterize individuals with potential need for interventions. Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study of 1442 health professional students at Sichuan University, China. At baseline (October 2019), participants were assessed for childhood adversity, stressful life events, internet addiction, and family functioning. Using multivariable logistic regression, we examined associations of the above exposures with subsequent psychological distress and ASR in response to the outbreak. Results: Three hundred and eighty-four (26.63%) participants demonstrated clinically significant psychological distress, while 160 (11.10%) met the criterion for a probable ASR. Individuals who scored high on both childhood adversity and stressful life event experiences during the past year were at increased risks of both distress (ORs 2.00–2.66) and probable ASR (ORs 2.23–3.10), respectively. Moreover, internet addiction was associated with elevated risks of distress (OR 2.05, 95% CI 1.60–2.64) and probable ASR (OR 2.15, 95% CI 1.50–3.10). By contrast, good family functioning was associated with decreased risks of distress (OR 0.43, 95% CI 0.33–0.55) and probable ASR (OR 0.48, 95% CI 0.33–0.69). All associations were independent of baseline psychological distress. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that COVID-19 related psychological distress and high symptoms burden of ASR are common among health professional students. Background: Hyperbilirubinemia is one of the common complications after cardiac surgery and is associated with increased mortality. However, to the best of our knowledge, the reports on clinical significance of postoperative severe hyperbilirubinemia in Stanford type A aortic dissection (AAD) patients were limited.Methods: Patients who underwent surgical treatment for AAD in our center between January 2015 and December 2018 were retrospectively screened. In-hospital mortality, long-term mortality, acute kidney injury (AKI), and the requirement of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) were assessed as endpoints. Univariate and multivariate regression models were employed to identify the risk factors of these endpoints.Results: After screening, 271 patients were included in our present study. Of the included patients, 222 (81.9%) experienced postoperative AKI, and 50 (18.5%) received CRRT. The in-hospital mortality was 30.3%. The 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year cumulative mortality were 32.9, 33.9, and 35.3%, respectively. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis indicated that age (P < 0.033), AKI stage 3 (P < 0.001), the amount of blood transfusion after surgery (P = 0.019), mean arterial pressure (MAP) in the first postoperative day (P = 0.012), the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) (P = 0.02), and the peak total bilirubin (TB) concentration (P = 0.023) were independent risk factors of in-hospital mortality. The optimal cut-off value of peak TB on predicting in-hospital mortality was 121.2 μmol/L. Patients with post-operation TB ≥ 121 μmol/L was associated with worse long-term survival as well.Conclusions: Severe post-operation hyperbilirubinemia is a common clinical situation in patients had AAD repair. In AAD patients with severe post-operation hyperbilirubinemia, older age, lower MAP, increased blood transfusion, stage 3 AKI, the use of ECMO, and the increased peak TB lead to increase in-hospital mortality. Accumulating evidence indicates that persistent infection with high‐risk oncogenic human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes is the most important risk factor for cervical cancer, and that the distribution of HPV genotypes varies regionally. This study explored the prevalence and genotype distribution of HPV infection among Han, Yi, and Bai women in various regions of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. This cross‐sectional study included 2779 women (20–76 years old) who were referred for 21‐HPV genotype array diagnostic from five regions of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture between February 2013 and May 2016. Statistical methods used included a the χ2 test, Fisher's exact test, t test, and logistic regression. Overall HPV prevalence in the study population was 7.6%. HPV‐52, HPV‐58, HPV‐18, HPV‐81, and HPV‐16 were the most prevalent genotypes in the study area, and notably, the prevalence of HPV‐58 was significantly higher among women in Heqing County than that in other regions. Univariate analysis showed that husband's age, region, fertility status, and parity were potential factors associated with HPV infection. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that Heqing County was an independent risk factor for HPV infection among women in the Dali area, moreover, Yi women showed the highest risk for HPV infections. Overall, our finding emphasizing the urgent need for an HPV screening and prevention program in Heqing County and Yi women. We also suggest that HPV‐related health education should be provided not only to women, but also to men, to reduce the risk of infection in women. Background: Prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is increasing in China; however, awareness and knowledge of NAFLD is lacking among the Chinese public.Aims: We investigated knowledge about NAFLD and the impact of a brief educational seminar among office employees in Beijing.Methods: Educational seminar on knowledge about NAFLD and recommendations on diet and physical activity and a pre- and a post-survey in 8 offices in Beijing.Results: A total of 420 participants (24.7% with a diagnosis of NAFLD) completed both the pre- and post-surveys. Median age was 42, 39.1% were men, 93.9% participants had some college education, 50.5% were overweight/obese, and 74.9% were inactive/minimally active. Only 31.2% had awareness of NAFLD. Median baseline knowledge score (of a total of 25) was 17 in participants with and 16 in those without a diagnosis of NAFLD. After the seminar, 30.9% of participants with and 50.8% without a diagnosis of NAFLD increased their knowledge score by ≥ 3 points, and 92.9% indicated they will improve their diet and physical activity. Multivariate logistic regression analyses found baseline knowledge score was associated with personal diagnosis of NAFLD and family history of dyslipidemia while improvement in knowledge was associated with lower baseline knowledge score and absence of a personal diagnosis of NAFLD.Conclusion: We found a high prevalence but a low awareness of NAFLD among office employees in Beijing. Objective The objective of this study is to understand the rate of intention to undergo HIV testing and associated factors among women in a city with high HIV prevalence. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among 293 women HIV/AIDS patients who were newly examined with HIV infection and aged ≥18 years from September to December 2012. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify the factors associated with intention to undergo HIV testing. Results The rate of intention to undergo HIV testing was 12.3%. Nearly 90% of participants had no intention of getting HIV tested, and the main reasons were 'Never thought I would be HIV-infected' (78.2%) and 'I did not feel sick, and it was impossible to be HIV-infected' (19.8%). The awareness rate of HIV knowledge was 67.8%, and 34.1% had casual heterosexual partners. Those who had casual heterosexual partners or had better HIV knowledge were more likely to have intention of getting HIV tested. Conclusion The rate of intention to undergo HIV testing among women is low. AIDS health education programmess and public information campaigns should be initiated to improve knowledge about HIV and the risk of HIV infection, to encourage women to take HIV testing more promptly. What are the social factors that matter most to the health of elderly Chinese? Are there any gender and age differences? Using a representative sample of elderly Chinese in Shanghai, the most developed city in China with the nation’s largest proportion of elderly residents, this study found that economic conditions, chronic health status, living arrangements, social activity participation, and caring for grandchildren are factors that are most important to the health of elderly Chinese. This is true for both self-rated health and psychological well-being. The beneficial effects of participation in social activities are particularly salient for elderly women and for the old–old, whereas the salutary effects of caring for grandchildren are more substantial for elderly men and for the young–old. Our findings suggest the importance of social engagement in promoting health and successful aging of elderly Chinese and disclose the moderating roles of gender and age in this focal relationship. Aim The aim of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic effect of laser vaporization for vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia ( VAIN) after hysterectomy in Chinese women and to identify factors affecting persistence/recurrence. Material and Methods Twenty-eight VAIN patients after hysterectomy due to cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (group 1) and 11 VAIN patients due to cervical cancer (group 2) were reviewed retrospectively. All patients were treated with at least one episode of laser vaporization between 2010 and 2011, and then followed up every 3 months for at least 1 year. Cox regression analysis was used to identify independent factors predicting persistence/recurrence. Results All VAIN patients achieved remission after two episodes of laser treatment, with 85.7% complete regression in group 1 and 54.5% in group 2. The first episode of the treatment had a significantly higher success rate in group 1 than in group 2 (46.2% vs 0.0%). All patients had no recurrence during a mean follow-up time of 22.8-27.8 months (range 12-39 months). However, infection persisted in 21 (61.8%) of 34 human-papillomavirus-positive patients after laser vaporization. Severity of VAIN was the only significant independent predictor of persistence/recurrence after one episode of the treatment (adjusted odds ratio, 4.08; 95% confidence interval, 1.28-12.96; P = 0.017). Laser treatments were well tolerated with no major side-effects. Conclusion Laser vaporization may be a useful option for the treatment of VAIN after hysterectomy. Background: Post-stroke depression (PSD) is commonly observed among stroke survivors. However, statistical analysis of such data is scarce in developing countries. The purpose of this study is to examine the incidence of PSD and its relationship with stroke characteristics in China. Methods: This was a prospective hospital-based study. Stroke patients were assessed within two weeks after acute ischemic stroke onset and then reevaluated at three months. Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) was used for screening depression (PSD). Subjects with HAMD score of ≥7 were further assessed with the World Health Organization Composite International Diagnostic Interview. Stroke severity was measured by the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Stroke outcome was measured by the modified Rankin Scale (mRS). Results: One hundred and two stroke patients were recruited, only ninety-one patients completed del period (men = 53, 63.74%), with mean age 60.0±10.4 years (range, 34–82 years). The incidence of PSD was 27.47% two weeks after stroke. The occurrence of PSD was unrelated with age, stroke type, stroke lesion and the history of disease. In univariate analysis gender, PSD was correlated with female gender. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, poor stroke outcome (mRS≥3) (OR 12.113, CI 1.169 to 125.59, P<0.05) was the important predictors of PSD. Abstract: In an effort to solve the problems that exist in the current health care system, the Chinese government has announced three different types of health insurance programs. We examine the impacts of these programs (Urban Employee Basic Medical Insurance (UEBMI), Urban Resident Basic Medical Insurance (URBMI), and New Cooperative Medical Scheme (NCMS)) on health care utilization among older people in two provinces of China – Zhejiang and Gansu. The data comes from the pilot survey of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) collected in 2008, which contains 2685 individuals in 1570 households. We use a two-part model to analyze outpatient care. The first part is a binary equation modeling the probability of any use of outpatient service; For the second part, we use a zero-truncated Poisson model and a generalized linear model with a gamma distribution and a log link to explain the number of outpatient visits and the level of out-of-pocket (OOP) payments conditional on at least one visit to a service provider, respectively. For the inpatient care, the logistic regression is employed to predict the probability of being hospitalized. All analyses are weighted and marginal effects are reported. We find that compared with people without health insurance, people with UEBMI and URBMI are more likely to use outpatient services and people with UEBMI have less OOP payments in Zhejiang while in Gansu province, people with NCMS are less likely to have outpatient visits, while people with UEBMI are more likely to be hospitalized. In addition, among those who have at least one outpatient visit, different insurance types do not make much difference in terms of the number of outpatient visits in both provinces. Background: To evaluate the conditions of palliative chemotherapy in terminally ill patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and to discuss the potential factors that affect the prognosis of these patients. Methods: All 205 terminally ill patients with advanced NSCLC, who died in our hospital during the period from 2006 to 2010, were included in the study. Basic information was collected and details for the treatment of patients, related to overall survival, were evaluated. Results: One hundred and fifty-nine out of 205 patients (77.6%) were treated with palliative chemotherapy. Of these, 59.7% patients were treated with palliative chemotherapy in the last three months and 27.7% patients in the last one-month, prior to their expiration, respectively. In addition, 22.0% of the 159 patients were treated with palliative chemotherapy for the first time in the last three months and 10.1% in the last month of their final days. We have shown that patients treated with palliative chemotherapy in their last three and final month had a shorter overall survival rate than those patients who were not treated with palliative chemotherapy. Conclusion: A large proportion of patients with advanced NSCLC received palliative chemotherapy near the end of their life. To report on the design and basic outcomes of three interventions aimed at improving the use and quality of maternity care in rural China: financial interventions, training in clinical skills, and training in health education. Community-based cluster randomized trials were carried out in one central and two western provinces between 2007 and 2009: (1) financial interventions covered part of women's costs for prenatal and postnatal care, (2) training of midwives in clinical skills was given by local maternity care experts in two- or three-group training courses, (3) health education training for midwives and village doctors were given by local experts in health education in two- or three-group training courses. A survey was conducted in a stratified random sample of women who had been pregnant in the study period. 73% of women (n = 3,673) were interviewed within 1-10 months of giving birth. Outcomes were compared by the different intervention and control groups. Adjusted odds ratios were calculated by logistic regression to adjust for varying maternal characteristics. Most of the differences found between the groups were small and some varied between provinces. The financial intervention did not influence the number of visits, but was associated with increased caesarean sections and a decrease in many ultrasound tests. The clinical intervention influenced some indicators of care content. There was no consistent finding for the health education intervention. Financial and training interventions have the potential to improve maternity care, but better implementation is required. Unintended consequences, including overuse of technology, are possible. Aim To assess the associations of oral hygiene and periodontal health with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ( COPD) exacerbations. Material and Methods In total, 392 COPD patients were divided into frequent and infrequent exacerbation (≥2 times and <2 times in last 12 months) groups. Their lung function and periodontal status were examined. Information on oral hygiene behaviours was obtained by interview. Results In the univariate analysis, fewer remaining teeth, high plaque index ( PLI) scores, low tooth brushing times, and low regular supra-gingival scaling were significantly associated with COPD exacerbations (all p-values <0.05). After adjustment for age, gender, body mass index, COPD severity and dyspnoea severity, the associations with fewer remaining teeth ( p = 0.02), high PLI scores ( p = 0.02) and low tooth brushing times ( p = 0.008) remained statistically significant. When stratified by smoking, fewer remaining teeth ( OR = 2.05, 95% CI: 1.04-4.02) and low tooth brushing times ( OR = 4.90, 95% CI: 1.26-19.1) among past smokers and high PLI scores ( OR = 3.43, 95% CI: 1.19-9.94) among never smokers were significantly associated with COPD exacerbations. Conclusions Fewer remaining teeth, high PLI scores, and low tooth brushing times are significant correlates of COPD exacerbations, indicating that improving periodontal health and oral hygiene may be a potentially preventive strategy against COPD exacerbations. Because the public and private sectors often operate with different goals, individuals employed by the two sectors may receive different levels of welfare. This can potentially lead to different health status. As such, employment sector offers an important perspective for understanding labor market outcomes. Using micro-level data from a recent Chinese household survey, this study empirically evaluated the impact of employment sector on health and within-sector health inequalities. It found that public sector employment generated better health outcomes than private sector employment, controlling for individual characteristics. The provision of more job security explained an important part of the association between public sector employment and better health. The study also found less health inequality by social class within the public sector. These findings suggest that policymakers should think critically about the "conventional wisdom" that private ownership is almost always superior, and should adjust their labor market policies accordingly. Objectives To describe the use of maternity care in rural China by the legal status of the pregnancy. Methods Cross-sectional survey wherein information was obtained about 2576 women who gave birth in 2006. Logistic regression was used to compare women having an unauthorised pregnancy with those having an authorised second birth, adjusting for confounding factors. Results Almost all respondents had antenatal care and most deliveries occurred in hospitals. Women with unauthorised pregnancies were significantly less likely to have had maternity care, particularly prenatal care, postnatal care, to have been hospitalised during pregnancy, and to have been reimbursed for hospital delivery costs than women with an authorised second birth. They were also more likely to have been hospitalised for seven or more days after delivery. Primiparous women used maternity care services and received financial support more often than women with an authorised second birth. Among the women with an unauthorised pregnancy an important reason for not using hospital care during pregnancy or delivery was financial constraint. Conclusions Women with unauthorised pregnancies use less maternity care, although pregnancy in such circumstances may adversely impact their health. Background: Substance use and adverse sexual and reproductive health (SRH) outcomes continue to be significant threats to female adolescents' health and wellbeing, particularly to these marginalized subpopulations. Our research aimed to tackle knowledge gaps regarding the prevalence of concurrent substance use including alcohol, tobacco, illicit drug among Chinese adolescent female sex workers (AFSWs), while to assess the correlates between substance use and SRH risks; the needs for comprehensive SRH services were also examined in this study.Methods: A cross-sectional study enrolled 310 AFSWs aged 15-19 years by using cluster sampling method in Kunming, China. Descriptive analysis was employed to characterize the participants who were regular-alcohol users, regular-tobacco users, illicit drug users and polysubstance users. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to detect the SRH correlates of regular-alcohol use, regular-tobacco use, illicit drugs and polysubstance use respectively.Results: There is a high prevalence of regular-alcohol drinking (83%, 257/310) among AFSWs, with 44% (136/310) smoking cigarettes regularly and 9% using illicit drug (27/310) in the past year. In multivariate analysis, AFSWs who had middle and high school education, had higher monthly income, experienced of sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) and prior abortion, and regular-tobacco smoking were associated with increased odds of regular-alcohol drinking; engaging in unprotected sex while drunk, having STIs symptoms and using illicit drugs were significantly associated with regular-tobacco smoking; while AFSWs who had an illicit drug using- intimate partner, experienced forced sexual initiation, accessed unsafe medical providers for STIs treatment were associate with increased odds of illicit drug use. Moreover, 35% (105/298) AFSWs sought unsafe medical care for STIs treatment, or no treatment at all, among them, majority were using polysubstance (87%; 91/105).Conclusions: Our findings reveal combined threats of substance use to AFSWs' SRH and wellbeing in China, this study emphasises that the coordinated efforts are needed to integrate SRH promotion and harm reduction service across sectors, and not only fragmented measures. An effective response should include an agreed framework, indicators and targets supported by political will, solid leadership and policy reform to deal with AFSWs' overlapping vulnerabilities in a systematic way. Background: Hypertension and diabetes mellitus are often jointly present, especially in early onset cases of either disease. We investigated clinical characteristics of hypertensive patients with newly diagnosed diabetes and diabetic patients with newly diagnosed hypertension. Methods: Our study subjects were recruited in a China nationwide multicenter registry of hypertension and diabetes (n = 2510). We performed logistic regression to compare patients seen for hypertension in cardiology, with newly diagnosed diabetes (n = 137) and patients seen for diabetes mellitus in endocrinology, with newly diagnosed hypertension (n = 155). Albuminuria was defined as a urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio of ≥ 30 mg/g, and left ventricular hypertrophy according to the Cornell product index. Results: These two groups of patients with both hypertension and diabetes mellitus were similar in most of the characteristics (P ≥ 0.06). However, hypertensive patients with newly diagnosed diabetes, compared to diabetic patients with newly diagnosed hypertension, had a significantly greater body mass index (26.3 vs. 25.4 kg/m2, P = 0.03) and slower heart rate (73.7 vs. 78.1 beats/min, P = 0.01). In logistic regression analyses adjusted for sex (48.3% women) and age (mean 60.0 ± 11.5 years), the odds ratio for newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus versus newly diagnosed hypertension was 1.27 (95% CI 1.03–1.56) and 0.80 (95% CI 0.66–0.96) for body mass index (+ 3 kg/m2) and heart rate (+ 10 beat/min), respectively. Hypertensive patients with newly diagnosed diabetes also had a lower prevalence of albuminuria (16.0% vs. 30.1%, P = 0.02) and slightly and non-significantly higher prevalence of left ventricular hypertrophy (5.1% vs. 1.9%, P = 0.14) than diabetic patients with newly diagnosed hypertension. Background: Optimal strategies for prevention and treatment for post-stroke depression (PSD) remain unclear and a greater understanding of effect of resilience on PSD is promising. The aim was to examine the association between baseline resilience and depression at 1, 3, and 6 months after discharge, which contributes to early detection and management of PSD.Methods: A total of 217 ischemic stroke survivors were recruited in two tertiary hospitals in Shanghai, China from February 2017 to January 2018. The Chinese version of Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) was used to assess resilience at acute hospitalization. Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) was employed to ascertain baseline anxiety, baseline depression, and post-discharge depression. Social-demographic and disease-related information were obtained from participants' self-report and medical records. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine which factors were independently associated with PSD.Results: The prevalence of depression at baseline was 21.2% and at 1, 3, and 6 months after discharge was 34.4%, 33.2%, and 29.2%, respectively. Logistics regression analyses indicated that resilience may independently predict PSD at 1 month (OR: 0.22, 95%CI: 0.097, 0.518), 3 months (OR:0.302, 95%CI: 0.151, 0.607), and 6 months (OR: 0.03, 95%CI: 0.006, 0.153) after controlling for social-demographics, disease-related characteristics, baseline anxiety, and baseline depression.Limitations: Non-multicenter survey and mild stroke severity may affect the generalization of these findings. Moreover, response bias should be acknowledged because some participants were read questionnaires out aloud.Conclusion: Resilience is independently associated with PSD at different timepoints. Abstract: In this study, the relationships between high water fluoride exposure and essential hypertension as well as plasma ET-1 levels were investigated. A total of 487 residents aged 40 to 75 were randomly recruited from eight villages in Zhaozhou County from Heilongjiang Province in China and were divided into 4 groups according to the concentrations of fluoride in their water. Consumption levels of drinking water fluoride for normal, mild, moderate, and high exposure groups were 0.84±0.26mg/L, 1.55±0.22mg/L, 2.49±0.30mg/L, and 4.06±1.15mg/L, respectively. The prevalence of hypertension in each group was 20.16%, 24.54%, 32.30%, and 49.23%, respectively. There were significant differences between all the groups; namely, with the increase in water fluoride concentrations, the risk of essential hypertension in adults grows in a concentration-dependent manner. Significant differences were observed in the plasma ET-1 levels between the different groups (P<0.0001). In the multivariable logistic regression model, high water fluoride concentrations (F− ≥3.01mg/L, OR4/1 =2.84), age (OR3/1 =2.63), and BMI (OR2/1 =2.40, OR3/1 =6.03) were closely associated with essential hypertension. In other words, the study not only confirmed the relationship between excess fluoride intake and essential hypertension in adults, but it also demonstrated that high levels of fluoride exposure in drinking water could increase plasma ET-1 levels in subjects living in fluoride endemic areas.
