Multiferroics refer to materials with two or more ferroic orders in one phase within a specific temperature range, including ferroelectricity, ferroelasticity, and ferromagnetism which have been widely used in sensors, actuators, and memory devices. Among them, hybrid perovskites exhibiting multiferroicity are generally limited to low dimensions (0D–2D). Designing 3D lead‐free perovskite multiferroics remains a challenge due to Goldschmidt's tolerance factor limitation. Here, a multiferroic perovskite (R‐3AP)RbBr3 (1; 3AP = 3‐ammoniopyrrolidinium) is successfully synthesized by introducing homochirality to the 3D ferroelectric (Rac‐3AP)RbBr3, achieving both ferroelasticity and ferroelectricity. Compound 1 undergoes a structure phase transition at 401 K belonging to Aizu notation 432F2(s), which has 12 ferroelectric equivalent polarization directions and 6 polar axes. Furthermore, 1 exhibits reversible second harmonic generation switching effects. Moreover, while the temperature varies, the reversible and rapid changes of ferroelastic domains in 1 are observed using a polarizing microscope, indicating that it is a ferroelastic material. Copper (Cu) is the most attractive electrocatalyst for CO2 reduction to multi‐carbon (C2+) products with high economic value in considerable amounts. However, the rational design of a structurally stable Cu‐based catalyst that can achieve high activity and stability towards C2+ products remain a grand challenge. Here, a highly stable nickel oxygenate/Cu electrocatalyst is developed with abundant NiOOH/Cu interfaces by in situ electrochemical reconstruction. The nickel oxygenate/Cu electrocatalyst achieves a superior Faradaic efficiency of 86.3 ± 3.0% and a record partial current density of 2085 A g−1 for C2+ products with long‐term stability. In situ experimental and theoretical studies demonstrates that the exceptional performance in generating C2+ products is attributed to the presence of the NiOOH/Cu interfaces which increase *CO coverage, lower energy barrier for *CO coupling and stabilize *OCCO simultaneously. Objectives: Cervical disc herniation (CDH) leads to pain, numbness, and potential disability. Percutaneous endoscopic cervical discectomy (PECD) offers an anterior or posterior approach. This study aims to compare postoperative disc height and angle changes one year after PECD, considering both approaches. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the data from patients with CDH who underwent PECD from October 2017 to July 2022. Cervical disc height was measured using the preoperative and one-year postoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations. Lordotic angle (LA), global alignment angle (GAA), segmental alignment angle (SAA), and slippage distance (SD) at the surgical level were measured on radiographs in the neutral, flexion, and extension positions. Results: Thirty-eight patients who underwent posterior PECD (PPECD) and five patients who underwent anterior PECD (APECD) were included in the evaluation. The mean age of the patients was 47.4 years (range: 29–69 years). There was a significant difference in the preoperative and one-year postoperative GAA and SAA in extension in the PPECD group (p = 0.003 and 0.031, respectively). The mean decreased disc height one-year postoperative was 1.30 mm in the APECD group and 0.3 mm in the PPECD group by MRI. A significant disc height decrease was observed in the APECD group (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Treating CDH with PPECD or APECD is feasible, as it can relieve symptoms and reduce disability. Stability remained unaffected during the first year after surgery, even though there was an increase in angulation during extension. Urban agglomerations (UAs), which serve as pivotal hubs for economic and innovative convergence, play a crucial role in enhancing internal circulation and strengthening external linkages. This study utilizes the China city-level multi-regional input-output tables, incorporating the Dagum Gini coefficient and kernel density estimation methods, to perform a thorough quantitative analysis. Disparities within the national and global value chains ("dual value chains") of Chinese UAs from 2012 to 2017 were assessed. Additionally, the logarithmic mean Divisia index (LMDI) method was applied to disaggregate the drivers of both national and global intermediate inputs (NII and GII). The study's key findings include the following: (1) The national value chain (NVC) within UAs exhibits robust growth, contrasting with the decline in the global value chain (GVC). (2) The inter-UA disparity contribution rate significantly surpasses the combined rates of intra-UA contribution and super-variation density. (3) Distinct evolutionary peak trends are discerned among various UAs within the "dual value chains", highlighting diverse spatial polarization characteristics and expansiveness. (4) The growth of the NVC has transitioned from a negative to a positive impact on NII, while the decline in GVC has substantially counteracted GII growth. Economic and demographic factors notably drive positive improvements in both NII and GII, whereas the efficiency of outflows presents a negative driving effect. Based on these findings, this study offers strategic recommendations to facilitate the effective integration of UAs into the new development paradigm, thereby providing a scientific basis for related decision-making processes. Professional trainers play an important role in helping new recruits adapt to the workplace. In general hospitals, training courses for clinical teachers still adopt the lecture method. Such a teacher training approach focuses on the way of delivering knowledge and skills, while the training for their teaching of case handling as well as their self-worth and self-confidence could be insufficient. In order to cope with this problem, the present study proposed a ChatGPT-based training mode (ChatGPT-TM) for professional development. To verify its effects, we conducted an experiment in a “Using ChatGPT in Case Teaching” course for clinical teachers in hospitals, and explored their learning achievement, self-worth, self-confidence, and learning perceptions using the ChatGPT training mode (ChatGPT-TM) and the conventional training mode (C-TM). The results showed that the ChatGPT-TM could effectively enhance clinical teachers’ learning achievement in case teaching, self-worth, and self-confidence in comparison with the C-TM. The main contribution of this study is that it revealed that ChatGPT could allow clinical teachers to carry out reflection, verify references, and integrate theory and practice, which improved their learning achievement, made them realize their self-worth, and increased their self-confidence in performing professional training tasks. The Ti-MIL-125 metal-organic framework (MOF) functions as a nanoreactor, producing carbon quantum dots (CQDs) within its structure and forming CQD/MOF composites. Similarly, a Pt-CQD/MOF three-component composite is synthesized. Their properties, along with those of CQDs and MOF-free-CQDs (mf -CQDs) enclosed within the MOF, undergo assessment and comparison. Integrating CQDs and Pt minimally alters the MOF structure but reduces specific surface areas due to incorporation. The emitted wavelength of CQD/MOF (570 nm) differs from pristine CQDs (450 nm) and mf -CQDs (496 nm), indicating MOF influence on CQDs' growth and photoluminescence. HOMO and LUMO levels of CQDs/MOF, measured via ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy and low-energy inverse photoelectron spectroscopy, are more positive than those of the MOF, suggesting heterogeneous junction formation, aiding electron separation. CQD/MOF exhibits a modest photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate of 20.4 μmol/g/h. Conversely, Pt-CQD/MOF significantly boosts the rate to 2213 μmol/g/h, underscoring Pt's pivotal catalytic role. Shifting from the typical 4e– pathway to H2O in electrochemical oxygen reduction to the 2e– pathway to H2O2 is increasingly recognized as an environmentally friendly approach for producing H2O2. However, the competitive 4e− pathway is a significant obstacle to the production of H2O2 since H2O is the thermodynamically favored product. Here, a series of Pt, Pd, and Rh active atoms diluted within inert‐Au matrices with precisely controlled atomic arrangements and coordination environments are synthesized via facet engineering for O2‐to‐H2O2 production. Surprisingly, individually dispersed Pt atoms within the Au surface enclosed by the square atomic arrangements exhibit superior H2O2 selectivity and achieve a maximum selectivity of 90% at 0.36 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode. Operando synchrotron ambient pressure X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy identifies the presence of *OOH key intermediates on these isolated Pt active sites. Grand canonical density‐functional theory also reveals that the kinetic energy barrier for the 2e− pathway (0.08 eV; OOH* + H+ + e− → H2O2) on the isolated Pt sites is significantly lower than the 4e− pathway (0.29 eV; OOH* + H+ + e− → O* + H2O). This work enables atomic‐scale control in dilute binary alloy surfaces with specific configurations of isolated active atoms and provides essential guidance for catalyst design to boost O2‐to‐H2O2 production. The identification of risk factors for future prediabetes in young men remains largely unexamined. This study enrolled 6247 young ethnic Chinese men with normal fasting plasma glucose at the baseline (FPGbase), and used machine learning (Mach-L) methods to predict prediabetes after 5.8 years. The study seeks to achieve the following: 1. Evaluate whether Mach-L outperformed traditional multiple linear regression (MLR). 2. Identify the most important risk factors. The baseline data included demographic, biochemistry, and lifestyle information. Two models were built, where Model 1 included all variables and Model 2 excluded FPGbase, since it had the most profound effect on prediction. Random forest, stochastic gradient boosting, eXtreme gradient boosting, and elastic net were used, and the model performance was compared using different error metrics. All the Mach-L errors were smaller than those for MLR, thus Mach-L provided the most accurate results. In descending order of importance, the key factors for Model 1 were FPGbase, body fat (BF), creatinine (Cr), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), WBC, and age, while those for Model 2 were BF, white blood cell, age, TSH, TG, and LDL-C. We concluded that FPGbase was the most important factor to predict future prediabetes. However, after removing FPGbase, WBC, TSH, BF, HDL-C, and age were the key factors after 5.8 years. Background: Both sleep-related breathing disorders (SRBDs) and HIV infection can interfere with normal sleep architecture, and also cause physical and psychological distress. We aimed to understand the differences in the obstructive patterns, sleep architecture, physical and psychological distress when compared between people living with HIV (PLWH) and matched the severity of SRBDs controls. Methods: A comparative study using matched case-control design was conducted. Men with HIV infection (case group) were enrolled from 2016 to 2019. A control group with HIV seronegative men were matched for SRBDs severity, and were selected from sleep medicine center database for comparison. Results: The mean age of the 108 men (including 54 cases and 54 matched controls) was 33.75 years. Central-apnea index (CI) was higher in the case group rather than matched controls (mean CI, 0.34 vs. 0.17, p = 0.049). PLWH had a lower mean percentage of stage 3 sleep (10.26% vs. 13.94%, p = 0.034) and a higher percentage of rapid eye movement sleep (20.59% vs. 17.85%, p = 0.011) compared to matched controls. Nocturnal enuresis and sleepiness causing traffic accidents were more frequent complaint in PLWH compared to controls. Conclusions: Early detected SRBDs and subtypes in PLWH to begin treatment for the underlying cause could reduce the risk of sleepiness-related traffic accidents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Our previous study discovered that sucrose and other non-reducing sugars (e.g., trehalose and raffinose) could be used to improve the electrotransfer (ET) of molecular cargo, including DNA, mRNA, and ribonucleoprotein in various cell lines and primary human cells in vitro and in vivo. To understand the molecular mechanisms of this improvement, we used RNA sequencing technology to analyze changes in the cell transcriptome after sucrose treatment. The results from our analysis demonstrated that the sucrose treatment upregulated phospholipase A2 and V-ATPase gene families, which could potentially influence the acidity of intracellular vesicles through augmenting vesicle fusion and the influx of proton, respectively. To determine how this upregulation affects ET efficiency, we treated cells with pharmaceutical inhibitors of phospholipase A2 and V-ATPase. The data demonstrated that the treatment with the phospholipase A2 inhibitor could reverse the ET improvement elicited by the sucrose treatment. The V-ATPase inhibitor treatment either had little influence or further enhanced the effect of the sucrose treatment on the ET efficiency. These observations provide a molecular explanation for our previous findings, demonstrating that the sucrose treatment primarily enhanced the ET efficiency by promoting vesicle trafficking and fusion through the activation of phospholipase A2. In the supplier–retailer–consumer system, the retailer's replenishment and pricing strategies impact the entire transaction process, forming a comprehensive trading market. Suppliers offer advance-cash-credit payments to retailers, while retailers provide customers with cash-credit payment options. In the current health-conscious consumer market, purchasing decisions are influenced not only by commodity prices but also by the freshness of products, particularly perishable goods. Growing awareness of climate change and the advent of carbon emission policies have raised concerns about the environmental costs of business transactions. This study focuses on perishable products whose demand is influenced by both price and freshness. It explores the adoption of various payment methods by suppliers and retailers, as well as the impact of carbon emission cap-and-trade policies or carbon tax policies on management and pricing strategies. Suitable inventory models are established to determine the optimal replenishment and pricing strategies for maximizing the current value of total profit. We illustrate that the current value of total profit demonstrates joint concavity concerning both the selling price and the replenishment time. Finally, we verify the proposed models using numerical examples and present the findings of sensitivity analyses. Designers rely on sketching to visualize and refine their initial ideas, and virtual reality (VR) tools now facilitate sketching in immersive 3D environments. However, little research has been conducted on the differences in the visual and spatial processes involved in 3D versus 2D sketching and their effects on cognition. This study investigated potential differences in spatial and visual functions related to the use of 3D versus 2D sketching media by analyzing functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data. We recruited 20 healthy, right-handed students from the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture with at least three years of experience in freehand landscape drawing. Using an Oculus Quest VR headset controller and a 12.9-inch iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil, we tested participants individually with 3D and 2D sketching, respectively. When comparing 2D and 3D sketches, our fMRI results revealed significant differences in the activation of several brain regions, including the right middle temporal gyrus, both sides of the parietal lobe, and the left middle occipital gyrus. We also compared different sketching conditions, such as lines, geometrical objects (cube), and naturalistic objects (perspective view of a tree), and found significant differences in the spatial and visual recognition of brain areas that support visual recognition, composition, and spatial perception. This finding suggests that 3D sketching environments, such as VR, may activate more visual–spatial functions during sketching compared to 2D environments. Background Few studies have evaluated mental health disorders comprehensively among patients with prostate cancer on long-term follow-up. The primary aim of our study was to assess the incidence of mental health disorders among patients with prostate cancer compared with a general population cohort. A secondary aim was to investigate potential risk factors for mental health disorders among patients with prostate cancer. Methods Cohorts of 18 134 patients with prostate adenocarcinomas diagnosed between 2004 and 2017 and 73470 men without cancer matched on age, birth state, and follow-up time were identified. Mental health diagnoses were identified from electronic health records and statewide health-care facilities data. Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate hazard ratios. All statistical tests were 2-sided. Results The hazard ratios for mood disorders, including depression, among prostate cancer survivors increased for all follow-up periods compared with the general population. The hazard ratios for any mental illness increased with Hispanic, Black, or multiple races; people who were underweight or obese; those with advanced prostate cancer; and those undergoing their first course cancer treatment. We also observed statistically significantly increased hazard ratios for mental health disorders among patients with lower socioeconomic status (P  < .0001) and increasing duration of androgen-deprivation therapy (P  = .0348). Prostate cancer survivors had a 61% increased hazard ratio for death with a depression diagnosis. Conclusion Prostate cancer diagnosis was associated with a higher risk of mental health disorders compared with the general population, which was observed as long as 10-16 years after cancer diagnosis. Ample evidence has indicated shifts in distribution of fish populations in response to environmental stress. However, most studies focused at the whole population scale. This neglects the spatial dynamics between groups of different body size (body size groups), that fundamentally shapes the spatial structure of a population. Here, we explored the mechanisms that modulate spatial dynamics of body size groups, and applied our analyses to three North Sea fish populations which experienced severe declines in biomass from 1977 to 2019: Atlantic cod Gadus morhua, haddock Melanogrammus aeglefinus and whiting Merlangius merlangius. All three populations exhibited strong declines in the overlapped area between body size groups in winter over 43 years, yet their mechanisms differed. These declines were either due to 1) different magnitudes of contraction of the distribution area of body size groups; and/or 2) different speeds and directions of spatial shift among various body size groups, both increasing spatial segregation within populations. These patterns were either associated with ocean warming, and/or declining population biomass, and such associations often varied according to distinct body size groups. Increasing spatial segregation between size groups of a population likely hampers life‐cycle connectivity and stability to local perturbations. Our analytical approach provides a powerful tool for identifying vulnerable populations under environmental stress and can be generalized to study a variety of size/age structured populations at various ecosystem types. The enzyme‐resistant thioglycosides are highly valuable immunogens because of their enhanced metabolic stability. We report the first synthesis of a family of thiooligosaccharides related to the capsular polysaccharides (CPS) of Campylobacter jejuni HS:4 for potential use in conjugate vaccines. The native CPS structures of the pathogen consist of a challenging repeating disaccharide formed with β(1→4)‐linked 6‐deoxy‐β‐D‐ido‐heptopyranoside and N‐acetyl‐D‐glucosamine; the rare 6‐deoxy‐ido‐heptopyranosyl backbone and β‐anomeric configuration of the former monosaccharide makes the synthesis of this family of antigens very challenging. So far, no synthesis of the thioanalogs of the CPS antigens have been reported. The unprecedented synthesis presented in this work is built on an elegant approach by using β‐glycosylthiolate as a glycosyl donor to open the 2,3‐epoxide functionality of pre‐designed 6‐deoxy‐β‐D‐talo‐heptopyranosides. Our results illustrated that this key trans‐thioglycosylation can be designed in a modular and regio and stereo‐selective manner. Built on the success of this novel approach, we succeeded the synthesis of a family of thiooligosaccharides including a thiohexasaccharide which is considered to be the desired antigen length and complexity for immunizations. We also report the first direct conversion of base‐stable but acid‐labile 2‐trimethylsilylethyl glycosides to glycosyl‐1‐thioacetates in a one‐pot manner. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper investigates a wind speed oscillation event that occurred near the coastline of central Taiwan in the afternoon of 17 February 2018, using data from observations and numerical simulations. The observed wind speeds at 100-m altitude displayed a fast-oscillating pattern of about 6 cycles between strong winds of approximately 21 m s−1 and weak winds of around 2 m s−1, with periods of about 10 min. The pressure anomalies fluctuated in antiphase with the wind speed anomalies. The synoptic analysis revealed the influence of a continental high pressure system, resulting in a cold-air outbreak over Taiwan. The cold north-northeasterly winds split into two branches upon encountering Taiwan's topography, with ridging off the east coast and a lee trough off the west coast of Taiwan. Wind oscillations were detected in the low-level cold air offshore the west coast of Taiwan, depicted by wavelike structures in wind speeds, sea level pressure, and potential temperature. The perturbations were identified as Kelvin-Helmholtz billows characterized by regions of strong wind speeds, warm and dry air, sinking motions, and low pressure collocated with each other, while regions of weaker wind speeds, cooler and moister air, ascending motions, and high pressure were associated with each other. With terrain contributing to favorable conditions, the large vertical and horizontal wind shears resulted from the southward acceleration of low-level cold air and the northward movement of the lee trough played an important role in initiating the wind oscillations. Background: Cultivating staff's professional English has become an imperative and challenging issue in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) countries. English for medical professionals is also the common language around the world for publishing new medical knowledge or reports. Therefore, Medical English for Health Professionals (MEHP) is a crucial required professional training program in nursing education. Its purpose is to improve nursing students' professional English so that they can directly understand the clinical medical information related to patients, thereby reading the latest international medical knowledge and participating in research themselves. Objective: The MEHP program is commonly conducted in a large‐scale class using the lecturing approach, which is a passive learning mode lacking opportunities for individual students to experience learning contexts and to receive advice and guidance from the teacher. To solve this problem, the present study proposed a motivation model‐based professional English gaming approach. Method: To verify the effects of the proposed approach, a quasi‐experiment was conducted in an MEHP program of a university to explore the effects of the approach on nursing students' learning achievements. In addition, the higher and lower achievers' behavioural patterns, as well as their perceptions of the learning approach, were investigated. Results and Conclusions: The results showed that the motivation model‐based digital gaming approach improved the students' professional English achievements in the "application" dimension as well as their positive perceptions of learning professional English more than the conventional learning approach. Moreover, when learning with the proposed approach, the higher achievers revealed more positive behavioural patterns than the lower achievers. The main contributions of the study are the proposal of a motivation model‐based digital gaming approach, and showing the effectiveness of the proposed approach in helping trainees gain a deeper understanding of professional English and facilitating their positive learning behaviours in a course for medical English. Abrupt changes in system states and dynamical behaviors are often observed in natural systems; such phenomena, named regime shifts, are explained as transitions between alternative steady states (more generally, attractors). Various methods have been proposed to detect regime shifts from time series data, but a generic detection method with theoretical linkage to underlying dynamics is lacking. Here, we provide a novel method named Nested-Library Analysis (NLA) to retrospectively detect regime shifts using empirical dynamic modeling (EDM) rooted in theory of attractor reconstruction. Specifically, NLA determines the time of regime shift as the cutting point at which sequential reduction of the library set (i.e., the time series data used to reconstruct the attractor for forecasting) optimizes the forecast skill of EDM. We illustrate this method on a chaotic model of which changing parameters present a critical transition. Our analysis shows that NLA detects the change point in the model system and outperforms existing approaches based on statistical characteristics. In addition, NLA empirically detected a real-world regime shift event revealing an abrupt change of Pacific Decadal Oscillation index around the mid-1970s. Importantly, our method can be easily generalized to various systems because NLA is equation-free and requires only a single time series. Author summary: Abrupt shifts in system dynamics, referred to as regime shifts, are common in natural systems and pose significant challenges for system management and risk assessment. Accurately detecting the change point that separates pre- and post-regime shift periods is crucial, as the data collected after regime shift can be more informative to forecast future system states. While numerous methods have been proposed to tackle this issue, identifying change points in chaotic systems remains difficult, in which regime shift signals can be concealed by chaotic dynamics. To address this issue, we propose Nested-Library Analysis (NLA), a machine learning method rooted in a data-driven, nonparametric framework for nonlinear dynamical systems, known as Empirical Dynamic Modeling (EDM). NLA effectively identifies the change points from time series data, even when the shifts in dynamics are nearly imperceptible due to chaotic behavior, surpassing the existing change point detection methods. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most aggressive and fatal breast cancer subtype. Nowadays, chemotherapy remains the standard treatment of TNBC, and immunotherapy has emerged as an important alternative. However, the high rate of TNBC recurrence suggests that new treatment is desperately needed. Schisandrin B (Sch B) has recently revealed its anti-tumor effects in cancers such as cholangiocarcinoma, hepatoma, glioma, and multi-drug-resistant breast cancer. However, there is still a need to investigate using Sch B in TNBC treatment. Interleukin (IL)-1β, an inflammatory cytokine that can be expressed and produced by the cancer cell itself, has been suggested to promote BC proliferation and progression. In the current study, we present evidence that Sch B can significantly suppress the growth, migration, and invasion of TNBC cell lines and patient-derived TNBC cells. Through inhibition of inflammasome activation, Sch B inhibits interleukin (IL)-1β production of TNBC cells, hindering its progression. This was confirmed using an NLRP3 inhibitor, OLT1177, which revealed a similar beneficial effect in combating TNBC progression. Background: Ruling out obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) using coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is time‐consuming and challenging. This study developed a deep learning (DL) model to assist in detecting obstructive CAD on CCTA to streamline workflows. Methods: In total, 2929 DICOM files and 7945 labels were extracted from curved planar reformatted CCTA images. A modified Inception V3 model was adopted. To validate the artificial intelligence (AI) model, two cardiologists labelled and adjudicated the classification of coronary stenosis on CCTA. The model was trained to differentiate the coronary artery into binary stenosis classifications <50% and ≥50% stenosis. Using the quantitative coronary angiography (QCA) consensus results as a reference standard, the performance of the AI model and CCTA radiology readers was compared by calculating Cohen's kappa coefficients at patient and vessel levels. The net reclassification index was used to evaluate the net benefit of the DL model. Results: The diagnostic accuracy of the AI model was 92.3% and 88.4% at the patient and vessel levels, respectively. Compared with CCTA radiology readers, the AI model had a better agreement for binary stenosis classification at both patient and vessel levels (Cohen kappa coefficient:.79 vs..39 and.77 vs..40, p <.0001). The AI model also exhibited significantly improved model discrimination and reclassification (Net reclassification index =.350; Z = 4.194; p <.001). Conclusions: The developed AI model identified obstructive CAD, and the model results correlated well with QCA results. The basolateral amygdala (BLA) and the nucleus accumbens core (NAcc) share some similar behavioral functions, such as associative learning, Pavlovian to instrumental transfer, and choice behavior. However, their prefrontal anatomical inputs have not been well characterized before, especially the collateral projections. In this study, we analyzed the distribution and collateralization of projections to the BLA and the NAcc from the prefrontal cortices (PFC), including the prelimbic (PL) and the infralimbic (IL) divisions of the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and the subregions of the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC), such as the medial OFC (MO), the lateral OFC (LO), and the ventral OFC (VO). Double retrograde tracing approach was used, in which Cholera toxin subunit B conjugated with the Alexa Fluor 488 (CTB-AF488) or Alexa Fluor 594 (CTB-AF594) were unilaterally injected into the BLA and the NAcc, respectively, in male Long-Evans rats (n = 6). Among the sampled neurons, prefrontal projection to the BLA or the NAcc is more robust on the ipsilateral side, and more robust from the PL, the IL, and the MO compared to from the LO and the VO. The majority of the projections from the PFC to the BLA and/or the NAcc are confined in deep layer. In addition, for each of the prefrontal areas, about 15–25% BLA-projecting neurons send collateral projections to the NAcc, and vice versa. In conclusion, our data suggested that prefrontal control over the BLA and the NAcc is not entirely independent. The functional importance of the collateral projections awaits further examination. Objective: To explore the short- and long-term effects of lower-limb endurance training on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease outpatients. Design: Prospective quasi-experimental study. Setting: 1383-bed teaching hospital in Taiwan. Participants: Overall, 69 outpatients diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were enrolled. A total of 60 patients completed the study. Intervention: Training group: Lower-limb endurance training; control group: Education only. Main measures: The modified medical research council score, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease assessment test score, pulmonary function test, and number of acute exacerbation within a year. Results: The training group showed significant improvement in the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease assessment test total score, modified medical research council score (both P < 0.001) at third month sustaining to 12th month (P < 0.001) and presented less events of acute exacerbation (P = 0.011) at 12th month. The chronic obstructive pulmonary disease assessment test decreased by 8 points sustaining to 12th month. The training group presented significant post-training functional capacity improvements in 6-min walking distance, lowest oxygen saturation during 6-min walking test, peak workload, maximum inspiratory/ expiratory pressures, and calf circumference. Conclusions: The lower-limb endurance training improved perceived dyspnea in daily activity and health status after completion of training and sustaining for a year. However, some research studies have suggested a potential link between COVID-19 vaccination and an increased risk of autoimmune diseases. In 2021, 59.6% of low-risk prostate cancer patients were under active surveillance as their first course of treatment. However, active surveillance and watchful waiting are difficult to define in population-based cohorts. The primary aim of our study is to develop and validate a population-level machine learning model for distinguishing active surveillance (AS) and watchful waiting (WW) in the conservative treatment group. A secondary aim is to investigate initial cancer management trends from 2004 to 2017 and the risk of chronic diseases among prostate cancer patients with different treatment modalities. A cohort of 18,134 cancer patients with prostate adenocarcinomas were diagnosed between 2004 and 2017 in Utah Cancer Registry. As a subset, 1,926 patients with available AS/WW information were diagnosed from 2010 to 2017 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Prostate with Watchful Waiting Database. Models were trained by four machine learning algorithms, and 10-fold cross-validation was performed. The area under the receiver operating curve, F-score, Brier score, and accuracy were used for model evaluation. Comorbidities diagnoses were identified from electronic medical records and statewide healthcare facilities data. Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) for the risk of chronic diseases. Logistic regression models performed better than other models in identifying AS from WW accurately. The developed model achieved a test area under the receiver operating curve of 0.73 (range 0.68-0.79), F-score of 0.79, accuracy of 0.71(range 0.66-0.76), and Brier score of 0.29 demonstrating good calibration, precision, and recall values. The top predictors were clinical factors, including Gleason Grade groups (p=0.0003), AJCC stage (p=0.017807), and T stage (p=0.0000109), and demographic characteristics, including race (p=0.007904) and birth year (p=0.046533). We noted a sharp increase in AS use between 2004 and 2016 among patients with low-risk prostate cancer and a moderate increase among intermediate-risk patients between 2008 and 2017. Compared to the AS group, radical treatment was associated with a lower risk of prostate cancer-specific mortality;but higher risks of Alzheimer's disease, anemia, glaucoma, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension. A machine learning approach accurately distinguished AS and WW groups in conservative treatment in this decision analytical model study. In this study, we sought to elucidate the differences in serum LysoPL metabolite profiles and their correlation with clinical features between patients with low versus high CRP levels. A total of 58 patients with AECOPD were enrolled in the study. Patients were classified into two groups: low CRP group (CRP < 20 mg/L, n = 34) and high CRP group (CRP ≥ 20 mg/L, n = 24). Clinical data were collected, and the LysoPL metabolite profiles were analyzed using Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) and identified by matching with the LipidBlast library. Nineteen differential LysoPLs were initially identified through Student's t -test (p < 0.05 and VIP > 1). Subsequently, four LysoPLs, LPC(16:0), LPE(18:2), LPC(22:0), and LPC(24:0), were identified by FDR adjustment (adjusted p < 0.05). These four lysoPLs had a significant negative correlation with CRP. Integrative analysis revealed that LPC (16:0) and LPC (22:0) correlated with less hypercapnic respiratory failure and ICU admission. AECOPD patients with high CRP levels demonstrated a distinctive LysoPL metabolism profile, with LPC (16:0), LPE(18:2), LPC(22:0), and LPC(24:0) being the most significantly altered lipid molecules. The sea bottom of Taiwan Strait harbors a Late Pleistocene paleo-ecosystem significantly distinct from the present ecosystem structure in Taiwan. The assemblage constitutes fossil remains from the genus Palaeoloxodon , the largest known lineage of proboscideans to have walked on Earth. Body mass holds a pivotal role in our understanding of an organism's biology, ecology, life history, and susceptibility to extinction, and thus, is a key trait while working with extinct taxa. Here we, for the first time, assess the body mass of Palaeoloxodon specimens from Taiwan using well-established allometric scaling equations derived from both extant and extinct species. Our results indicate that Palaeoloxodon individuals from Taiwan exceed 10 tonnes in body mass with a mean body mass of 9.32 tonnes, similar in size to Palaeoloxodon antiquus across Eurasia, and an average shoulder height of 3.49 m. Additionally, our statistical pairwise analysis of body mass distribution shows that Palaeoloxodon specimens from Taiwan significantly differ from the largest species in the genus, Palaeoloxodon namadicus. We further employ equations from extant proboscideans and show notable discrepancies due to differences in body shape between extinct and extant proboscideans. Our estimated body masses offer novel insights into the paleoecology and extinction pressures of the Palaeoloxodon population during the Pleistocene of Taiwan. Electrospun poly (γ-benzyl- l -glutamate) (PBG) scaffold felt with aligned fibers shows promising nerve regeneration and neurite growth capability due to the nerve stimulating moiety of glutamate in the PBG material. The nerve regeneration capability can be further enhanced by incorporating 4 wt% minocycline hydrochloride (MH) in the scaffold (PBGMH4). They are useful in the nerve tissue engineering to repair and regeneration damaged nerves in central nerve system or peripheral nerve system. Here we investigate the ambient storage capability of PBG and PBGMH4 by monitoring the changes over time of fiber dimension, mechanical properties of both scaffolds and amount of drug release of PBGMH4. It is interesting to observe the diameter of fibers and mechanical strength of scaffolds increases but the amount of drug release decrease with time. By carefully examining the top view of the scaffolds using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the fiber diameter of PBG increased by 58 % over the 12 months storage period, which is larger than the 32 % increase observed for PBGMH4. Furthermore, after storage for 12 months, the difference in fiber diameter between the top and bottom sides of PBG scaffold is 25.9 %, whereas for PBGMH4 is only 6.3 %. These results demonstrate that the PBGMH4 scaffold exhibits superior storage stability compared to that of PBG. Because the fibers of the scaffolds are aligned without any crosslinkage, the scaffolds are porous structure of felts. The porosity of PBGMH4 scaffold is decreased from 90 % to 72 % which can be accountable for the decrease of drug release from initial 42 % to a stabilized 26 % after 9 months of storage. The results indicate the specific surface area of the scaffolds play an important role in governing drug release kinetics. This study thoroughly investigates the storage stability of PBG and PBGMH4 electrospun fibrous scaffolds. The observed correlations between fiber diameter, mechanical properties, and drug release behavior hold implications for the design of advanced bioscaffolds. Energy storage technology provides a solution to the contradiction between energy supply and demand, as well as the volatility and intermittency of renewable energy. As a representative energy storage system, the coil type energy storage system is of great significance in improving the reliability and cooling economy of building cooling systems. The configuration of coils has a significant impact on the ice storage process and icing rate. This study deals with the experimental and numerical analysis of the influence of different configurations on solidification process. The natural convection and density reversal at 277.15K of water have a significant impact during the cooling process. Therefore, we divide the cooling stage of water into two stages: 283.15K–277.15K and 277.15K–273.15K. Due to natural convection and density reversal of the cooling process, the thickness of the ice layer on the outer surfaces of the upper and lower sides varies unevenly in the horizontal configuration. The phenomenon where the ice layer in the vertical configuration is distributed conical, and the ice layer at the bottom is thinner than the ice layer at the top. As the ice storage process progresses, natural convection decreases from 1.5 × 10−2 m/s to 2.9 × 10−4 m/s. Within 210 min, the thickness of the ice layer in the vertical configuration is 2.27 mm thicker than that in the horizontal configuration. This article aims to study the effects of natural convection and density reversal during ice storage, explore the ice storage rate under horizontal and vertical placement, and provide reference value for practical engineering. • Lost circulation materials degrade differently under various geothermal conditions. • Thermal degradation can compromise certain materials ability to act as clogging agents. • Breakdown of lost circulation materials can affect the fluid composition and strength around the borehole. • Materials should be characterized by thermal degradability for improving use in geothermal wells. Treatment of lost circulation can represent anywhere from 5 to 25 % of the cost in drilling geothermal wells. The cost of the materials used for lost circulation treatment is less important than their effectiveness at reducing fluid losses. In geothermal systems, the high temperatures (>90 °C) are expected to degrade many commonly used lost circulation materials over time. This degradation could compromise different materials ability to mitigate fluid loss, creating more non-productive time as multiple treatments are needed, but may result in recovering desired permeability zones within the reservoir section over time. This research aimed to study how thermal degradation of eight different lost circulation materials affected their properties relevant to sealing loss zones in geothermal wells. Mass loss experiments were conducted with each material at temperatures of 90–250 °C for 1–42 days to measure the breakdown of the material at geothermal conditions, collecting gases during several experiments to determine the waste produced during degradation. Compaction experiments were conducted with the degraded materials to show how temperatures reduced the rigidity and increased packing of the materials. Viscosity tests were conducted to show the impact of different materials on drilling fluid rheology. Microscope observations were conducted to characterize the alterations to each material due to thermal degradation. Organic materials tend to degrade more than inorganic materials, with organics like microcellulose, cotton seed hulls and sawdust losing 30–50 % of their mass after 1 day of heating at 200 °C, while inorganics like magma fiber only lose ∼5–10 % of its mass after one day of heating at 200 °C. Granular materials are the strongest when compacted despite any mass loss, while fibrous and flaky materials are fairly weak and breakdown easily under stress. The materials do not generally affect fluid rheology unless they have a viscosifying agent as part of the mixture. Microscopic analysis showed that more rigid materials like microcellulose and cedar fiber degrade in brittle manners with splitting and fracturing, while others like cotton seed hulls degrade in more ductile manners forming meshes or clumps of material. The thermal breakdown of lost circulation materials tested suggests that each material should also be classified by its degree of thermal degradability, as at certain temperatures the materials can lose the capability to bridge loss zones around the wellbore. Sepsis constitutes a condition that involves life-threatening organ dysfunction induced by severe infection. This nested case–control study investigated risk factors for severe sepsis and whether antipsychotic use is associated with severe sepsis risk in patients with schizophrenia, a topic that has not been comprehensively explored in previous studies.We selected 39,432 patients with schizophrenia aged between 15 and 65 years from Taiwan’s Psychiatric Inpatient Medical Claims database for the period 2000–2012. The case group comprised patients with severe sepsis after their first psychiatric admission (n = 1382). The case and control groups were randomly matched (1:4) by age, sex and first psychiatric admission (year) and finally comprised 1382 and 5528 individuals, respectively. We employed multivariable conditional logistic regression to identify (1) risk factors (physical illnesses and nonpsychiatric medications) and (2) antipsychotic–severe sepsis associations.Higher numbers of psychiatric admissions and physical illnesses such as delirium, cerebrovascular disease and cancer were significantly associated with a higher risk of severe sepsis. Furthermore, severe sepsis was associated with the use of antithrombotic agents, systemic corticosteroids and agents targeting the renin–angiotensin system. Clozapine (adjusted risk ratio = 1.65) and quetiapine (adjusted risk ratio = 1.59) use were associated with an increased risk of severe sepsis. The use of more than one antipsychotic drug could further increase this risk.Several physical illnesses and nonpsychiatric medications increase the risk of severe sepsis in patients with schizophrenia. Mathematical models of cure shrinkage at isothermal and variable temperatures have not been comparatively discussed. Accordingly, this study aims to clarify the differences between the cure shrinkage during EMC curing estimated by the isothermal and modified two-domain Tait models. A fitting flow and calculation procedure for cure shrinkage was established to analyze the influence of these models on structural warpage. This study involved the experimental measurements of EMC material properties by using the cure reaction kinetics, isothermal and variable-temperature cure shrinkage, and generalized Maxwell models and degree of cure at gel point. Structural warpage was estimated by developing a process-oriented finite element method simulation and validating simulation results against experimental results. Analysis revealed good agreement between the warpage estimated by the two cure shrinkage models and experimental warpage. Compared with those of the other model, the results of the two-domain modified Tait model better matched the experimental results, with a deviation of approximately 1 %, because this model considered cure shrinkage that precisely corresponds to the actual process. Furthermore, the stress relaxation of viscoelastic behavior was validated through a parameterized post-curing process. Accurate and efficient inspection of rebar dimensions has proven to be a persistent challenge for researchers and practitioners. This paper introduces a semantically enriched 3D model-based system that employs computer vision and deep learning for location-aware identification and tracking of rebar issues. The system comprises four modules: (A) digital twin generation, (B) segmentation, (C) inspection, and (D) issue identification and tracking. The generation module constructs 3D models from rebar structures. The segmentation and inspection modules analyze the 3D models, enriching them with semantic information. The issue identification and tracking module exchanges information between the semantically enriched 3D models and the building information models across time. An experiment on a column rebar cage is conducted. A precision of over 90% and a recall of over 97% are reported in 3D instance segmentation. Diameter inspection achieves an accuracy of 95.5% for large-size rebars. Spacing inspection achieves a mean relative error of 0.98%. An efficient, atom‐economic synthesis for a family of thio‐oligosaccharides related to C. jejuni HS:4 capsular polysaccharide is facilitated by epoxide‐mediated trans‐thioglycosylation. Under what conditions might authoritarian states adapt public policies to social preferences? How could social actors push the window for policy change? How might state–society interactions induce policy change as the practice of authoritarian adaptation? This article utilizes a new database of case evidence and the qualitative comparative analysis method to explore the relationship between state–society interaction and policy change as the practical manifestation of authoritarian adaptation in China. The study presents three approaches to policy change: state–society interactive strategies, policy entrepreneurs and the political opportunity structure. The empirical results reveal three patterns of state–society interaction leading to policy change, while submission is not a viable option for society under state suppression. Media presence may impede policy change, and the diverse functions of social organizations should be related to interactive strategies. In addition, social actors may identify political opportunities through multiround interaction, while the role of joint administration in effecting policy change remains unclear. • Methodology for fracture energy estimation of pores located at bonded interface is proposed. • Extended J-integral approach with proper integral path is utilized and demonstrated. • Several porosity levels and distribution of porous materials are modeled by Monte Carlo approach. • Semiconductor low-k stacked films are given as an example by using the present estimation. • Important factors of interfacial fracture are found by the response surface methodology. In view of the fracture failure mechanism induced by low interfacial strength in porous low-dielectric materials, this study establishes an approach based on fracture mechanics theory and finite element simulation to analyze different pore distribution scenarios and interfacial cracks. The study investigates the estimation method of energy release rate for the fracture tip on concerned interfaces with pores and cracks in porous stacked thin films. By incorporating the proposed finite element simulation into J-integral calculations for fracture energy release rate and comparing with previous research, the approach is reliably verified. Subsequently, using the developed simulation approach, cracks and pores in porous materials are analyzed to understand the variations of energy release rates under different structural parameters. Finally, a Monte Carlo method is considered to model porous materials and analyze the fracture energy between dissimilar material interfaces under varying porosity levels. The simulation methodology developed in this study can be applied to estimate the critical value of interfacial fracture energy for corresponding porous materials and heterogeneous material interfaces under external loads. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is an efficient and information-rich technique for detecting lithium-ion batteries. However, the measurement of EIS takes much time, and the lower the measurement frequency, the longer the measurement takes. To address this problem, this study innovatively proposes an EIS prediction method based on a sparrow search algorithm optimized deep neural network (SSA-DNN). The overall measurement time is reduced by extracting features from the medium-high frequency segments, where the EIS measurement is less time-consuming, and predicting the medium-low frequency segments that consume more measurement time. After evaluating the EIS prediction results at different cycling temperatures and states of charge (SOC), it is concluded that the EIS prediction method proposed in this paper has the advantages of fast measurement speed, high accuracy and applicability. Finally, the predicted EIS is used to estimate the state of health (SOH), and the distribution of relaxation time (DRT) is calculated. The results show that the proposed EIS prediction method has a maximum prediction RMSE of 29.15 m Ω , and the measurement time is reduced to 2.94 % of the original measurement time, which can be widely used in various scenarios based on EIS technology. • Proposing an EIS prediction method based on optimized deep neural network. • Reducing acquisition time for complete full-band EIS with less than 2 % error. • The method is applicable to different SOC, SOH, and temperature status. Crystalline metal halide perovskites (MHPs) have ushered in remarkable advancements across diverse fields, including materials, electronics, and photonics. While the advantages of crystallinity are well‐established, the ability to transition to a glassy state with unique properties presents unprecedented opportunities to expand the structure‐property relationship and broaden the application scope for 2D MHPs. Up until now, the exploration of amorphous analogs for MHPs is confined to high‐pressure conditions, limiting in‐depth studies and practical applications. In this context, a new type of 2D MHPs is synthesized by incorporating halogen substituted organic cations, resulting in a remarkable combination of low melting temperature and inhibited crystallization. This new type of 2D MHPs can be effectively melt‐quenched into a glassy state except for (DMIEA)3Pb2I7 (DMIEA = N, N‐dimethyl iodoethylammonium) counterpart. Analysis of the crystallization activation energy for (DMIPA)4Pb3I10 (DMIPA = N, N‐dimethyl iodopropylammonium) reveals a low crystallization activation energy of 60.7 ± 4.0 kJ mol−1, which indicates a fast glass‐crystal transition. The type of atypical 2D MHP showcases facile and reversible switching between glassy and crystalline states and opens up novel possibilities for applications, such as nonvolatile memory, optical communication, and neuromorphic computing. In this study, we report a novel per-6-substituted β-cyclodextrin (4) featuring seven phosphoramidate moieties as an innovative host for inclusion. This structurally well-defined host has remarkable water solubility and was isolated in pure form. Analytical techniques such as NMR and ITC were used to probe the molecular interactions with different drug molecules. Our investigations revealed that host 4 can form 2:1 inclusion complexes with various drugs. Further studies showed that the inclusions of drugs by β-CD host (4) are mostly enthalpy driven, highlighting the potential roles played by the phosphoramidate functionalities of the host. Comparatively, a per-O2, O3-acetylated analog (6) of compound 4 was also obtained, which also shows unusual water solubility but diminished inclusion capability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: Exosomes are extracellular vesicles, measuring 40–160 nm in diameter, that are released by many cell types and tissues, including adipose tissue. Exosomes are critical mediators of intercellular communication and their contents are complex and diverse. In recent years, accumulating evidence has proved that multiple adipose tissue‐derived exosomal noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs), including microRNAs (miRNAs), long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and circular RNAs (circRNAs), play pivotal roles in the pathogenesis of diverse metabolic diseases, such as obesity. In this narrative review, we focus on the adipose tissue‐derived exosomal ncRNAs, especially exosomal miRNAs, and their dysregulation in multiple types of metabolic diseases. Seasonal and pandemic-associated influenza strains cause highly contagious viral respiratory infections that can lead to severe illness and excess mortality. Here, we report on the optimization of our small-molecule inhibitor F0045(S) targeting the influenza hemagglutinin (HA) stem with our Sulfur-Fluoride Exchange (SuFEx) click chemistry-based high-throughput medicinal chemistry (HTMC) strategy. A combination of SuFEx- and amide-based lead molecule diversification and structure-guided design led to identification and validation of ultrapotent influenza fusion inhibitors with subnanomolar EC50 cellular antiviral activity against several influenza A group 1 strains. X-ray structures of six of these compounds with HA indicate that the appended moieties occupy additional pockets on the HA surface and increase the binding interaction, where the accumulation of several polar interactions also contributes to the improved affinity. The compounds here represent the most potent HA small-molecule inhibitors to date. Our divergent HTMC platform is therefore a powerful, rapid, and cost-effective approach to develop bioactive chemical probes and drug-like candidates against viral targets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The advancements of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies have enabled the implementation of smart and wearable sensors, which can be employed to provide older adults with affordable and accessible continuous biophysiological status monitoring. The quality of such monitoring data, however, is unsatisfactory due to excessive noise induced by various disturbances, such as motion artifacts. Existing methods take advantage of summary statistics, such as mean or median values, for denoising, without taking into account the biophysiological patterns embedded in data. In this research, a functional data analysis modeling method was proposed to enhance the data quality by learning individual subjects' diurnal heart rate (HR) patterns from historical data, which were further improved by fusing newly collected data. This proposed data-fusion approach was developed based on a Bayesian inference framework. Its effectiveness was demonstrated in an HR analysis from a prospective study involving older adults residing in assisted living or home settings. The results indicate that it is imperative to conduct personalized healthcare by estimating individualized HR patterns. Furthermore, the proposed calibration method provides a more accurate (smaller mean errors) and more precise (smaller error standard deviations) HR estimation than raw HR and conventional methods, such as the mean. Introduction: Known to have pleiotropic functions, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) helps to regulate systemic inflammation during sepsis. As preserving HDL-C level is a promising therapeutic strategy for sepsis, the interaction between HDL and sepsis worth further investigation. This study aimed to determine the impact of sepsis on HDL's anti-inflammatory capacity and explore its correlations with disease severity and laboratory parameters. Methods and materials: We enrolled 80 septic subjects admitted to the intensive care unit and 50 controls admitted for scheduled coronary angiography in this cross-sectional study. We used apolipoprotein-B depleted (apoB-depleted) plasma to measure the anti-inflammatory capacity of HDL-C. ApoB-depleted plasma's anti-inflammatory capacity is defined as its ability to suppress tumor necrosis factor-α–induced vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) expression in human umbilical-vein endothelial cells. A subgroup analysis was conducted to investigate in septic subjects according to disease severity. Results: ApoB-depleted plasma's anti-inflammatory capacity was reduced in septic subjects relative to controls (VCAM-1 mRNA fold change: 50.1% vs. 35.5%; p < 0.0001). The impairment was more pronounced in septic subjects with than in those without septic shock (55.8% vs. 45.3%, p = 0.0022). Both associations were rendered non-significant with the adjustment for the HDL-C level. In sepsis patients, VCAM-1 mRNA fold change correlated with the SOFA score (Spearman's r = 0.231, p = 0.039), lactate level (r = 0.297, p = 0.0074), HDL-C level (r = –0.370, p = 0.0007), and inflammatory markers (C-reactive protein level: r = 0.441, p <0.0001; white blood cell: r = 0.353, p = 0.0013). Conclusion: ApoB-depleted plasma's anti-inflammatory capacity is reduced in sepsis patients and this association depends of HDL-C concentration. In sepsis patients, this capacity correlates with disease severity and inflammatory markers. Hybrid metal halides (HMHs) based phase transition materials have received widespread attention due to their excellent performance and potential applications in energy harvesting, optoelectronics, ferroics, and actuators. Nevertheless, effectively regulating the properties of phase transitions is still a thorny problem. In this work, two chiral lead‐free HMHs (R‐3FP)2SbCl5 (1; 3FP=3‐fluoropyrrolidinium) and (R‐3FP)2SbBr5 (2) were synthesized. By replacing the halide ions in the inorganic skeleton, the phase transition temperature of 2 changes with an increase of about 20 K, compared with 1. Meanwhile, both compounds display reversible dielectric switching properties. Tropical cyclones (TCs), as natural extreme weather events, alter plankton and hydrological environments, affecting the stability of biological processes in freshwater ecosystems, and such TC effects vary with water depths. Previous studies have found increased phytoplankton biomass resulting from TC effects has been observed, leading to potential strong grazing of zooplankton and enhanced plankton trophic‐level relationships. However, this remains understudied, particularly under in situ conditions.Using a zooplankton to phytoplankton (ZB/PB) ratio to represent the plankton trophic‐level relationship, we estimated the ZB/PB ratios at various depth intervals, including surface (2 m depth) and euphotic (depths between 0 and 20 m) depths and depth layer 0–50 m (depths between 0 and 50 m), in a subtropical deep oligotrophic freshwater ecosystem from 2012 to 2015 to understand how TC effects would influence changes in the ZB/PB ratio variations.TCs affected the surface and euphotic ZB/PB ratios but not those at the depth layer 0–50 m. The TC durations had an initially negative and then positive impact on the surface ZB/PB ratio, indicating that slow‐moving TCs might restructure surface plankton trophic‐level relationships. The water temperature and nutrient dynamics during the TC weeks showed the highest correlations with the ZB/PB ratios at the surface and euphotic depths. The combined environmental effects influenced the ZB/PB ratios at the surface and euphotic depths during the TC weeks, with 65.1% and 72.2% of the total variations explained in the multivariate regressions, respectively.There were greater impacts of TCs in shallow water (surface and euphotic depth) than in deep water. Aquatic food chains may be unexpectedly vulnerable to natural extreme weather events, such as TCs, and continuous assessments of food chain dynamics are necessary to better manage potential risks from natural extreme weather events in freshwater ecosystems. Kikuchi–Fujimoto disease (KFD) is a self-limited disease that is more common in young Asian women. Typical presentations included fever and cervical lymphadenopathy. The etiology of KFD is unknown, and diagnosis is based mainly on lymph node biopsy. KFD has been reported to be associated with Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. However, the role of antibiotic treatment is unclear. We reported 2 cases of KFD associated with Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection and were successfully treated with a macrolide. The article discusses the impact of the intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) on the reliability of the fourth-generation FloTrac/EV1000 system in patients undergoing robotic-assisted off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery. The study found that pulse contour analysis systems, including the FloTrac system, cannot accurately identify the systolic and diastolic portions of the arterial waveform when the IABP is used, leading to incorrect cardiac output (CO) values. However, during the mini-thoracotomy stage of the surgery, the CO values obtained from the FloTrac system showed agreement with the thermodilution method. The authors suggest that uncalibrated arterial pressure waveform analysis could potentially be used interchangeably with pulmonary artery catheter measurements in stable hemodynamic conditions. To adapt to the different application environments, Si 3 N 4 ceramics are required to have different mechanical properties. Therefore, in this study, Si 3 N 4 ceramics with adjustable mechanical properties were fabricated via using ZrN–AlN–Y 2 O 3 ternary sintering additives and hot-pressing at 1650 °C for 30 min. Subsequently, the effect of the Y 2 O 3 concentration on the phase assemblage, microstructure, mechanical properties, and crack propagation of Si 3 N 4 ceramics was systematically investigated. The results demonstrated that Si 3 N 4 ceramics presented adjustable microstructure and mechanical properties with the Y 2 O 3 contents added in the range of 0∼8 wt%. With the increase of Y 2 O 3 contents, the average aspect ratio of Si 3 N 4 grains had an increase of 61.77%, increasing from 3.95 to 6.39. Besides, the Si 3 N 4 grains and the formed YAG intergranular phase exhibited a fairly good combination at the nano-scale. Si 3 N 4 grains and intergranular phase were the main influence factors on the mechanical properties of Si 3 N 4 ceramics. As a result, the bending strength was from 700.99 ± 38.72 to 961.13 ± 36.84 MPa. The fracture toughness exhibited a range of 4.87 ± 0.11 to 6.10 ± 0.23 MPa⋅m1/2, while Vickers hardness achieved a high level of 16.09 ± 0.16 to 19.98 ± 0.39 GPa. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nutrient run-off from agriculture causes water pollution and eutrophication. Polysaccharide hydrogels with controlled release of nutrients have been developed to minimize nutrient leaching and run-off. This review compares the loading and release of different nutrients from polysaccharide hydrogels for fertilizing purposes. Urea was encapsulated into polysaccharide hydrogels through blending, adsorption, and coating to minimize fast hydrolysis and possible volatilization. Urea release could be controlled by incorporating inorganic fillers, increasing polymer density, and reducing pore size. Early works incorporated polysaccharides into synthetic polymer hydrogel. Cellulose, cellulose derivatives, starch, chitosan, and alginate were later used as the composite hydrogel in urea encapsulation. The controlled release of other nitrogen sources such as KNO3, NH4NO3, NH4Cl, and leather waste was also studied. Phosphate release was reduced using copolymers containing Arabic gum, carboxymethyl cellulose, and starch-rich waste besides chitosan and carboxymethyl cellulose hydrogels. Potassium release from polysaccharide hydrogel containing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium could be electrostatically controlled. Polysaccharide hydrogels containing micronutrients, humic acids, and sucrose were also developed. Most of the polysaccharide hydrogels did not fulfill the nutrient release standards. Besides controlling the release of multiple nutrients, further reduction of cost using polysaccharide-rich waste and nutrients in the wastewater should be considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
