Additive manufacturing (AM) offers the advantage of producing complex parts more efficiently and in a lesser production cycle time as compared to conventional subtractive manufacturing processes. It also provides higher flexibility for diverse applications by facilitating the use of a variety of materials and different processing technologies. With the exceptional growth of computing capability, researchers are extensively using machine learning (ML) techniques to control the performance of every phase of AM processes, such as design, process parameters modeling, process monitoring and control, quality inspection, and validation. Also, ML methods have made it possible to develop cybermanufacturing for AM systems and thus revolutionized Industry 4.0. This paper presents the state-of-the-art applications of ML in solving numerous problems related to AM processes. We give an overview of the research trends in this domain through a systematic literature review of relevant journal articles and conference papers. We summarize recent development and existing challenges to point out the direction of future research scope. We present a deep learning-based framework to design and quantify point-of-care sensors. As a use-case, we demonstrated a low-cost and rapid paper-based vertical flow assay (VFA) for high sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP) testing, commonly used for assessing risk of cardio-vascular disease (CVD). A machine learning-based framework was developed to (1) determine an optimal configuration of immunoreaction spots and conditions, spatially-multiplexed on a sensing membrane, and (2) to accurately infer target analyte concentration. Using a custom-designed handheld VFA reader, a clinical study with 85 human samples showed a competitive coefficient-of-variation of 11.2% and linearity of R2 = 0.95 among blindly-tested VFAs in the hsCRP range (i.e., 0–10 mg/L). We also demonstrated a mitigation of the hook-effect due to the multiplexed immunoreactions on the sensing membrane. Aiming at the problems of insufficient extraction of asynchronous motor fault features by traditional deep learning algorithms and poor diagnosis of asynchronous motor faults in robust noise environments, this paper proposes an end-to-end fault diagnosis method for asynchronous motors based on IInception-CBAM-IBiGRU. The method first uses a signal-to-grayscale image conversion method to convert one-dimensional vibration signals into two-dimensional images and initially extracts shallow features through two-dimensional convolution; then the Improved Inception (IInception) module is used as a residual block to learning features at different scales with a residual structure, and extracts its important feature information through the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) to extract important feature information and adjust the weight parameters; then the feature information is input to the Improved Bi-directional Gate Recurrent Unit (IBiGRU) to extract its timing features further; finally, the fault identification is achieved by the SoftMax function. The primary hyperparameters in the model are optimized by the Weighted Mean Of Vectors Algorithm (INFO). The experimental results show that the method is effective in fault diagnosis of asynchronous motors, with an accuracy rate close to 100%, and can still maintain a high accuracy rate under the condition of low noise ratio, with good robustness and generalization ability. These days, Internet coverage and technologies are growing rapidly, hence, it makes the network more complex and heterogeneous. Software defined network (SDN) revolutionized the network architecture and simplified the network by separating the control and data plane. On the other hand, machine learning (ML) and its derivations have made the systems more intelligent. Many pieces of research papers have addressed ML and SDN. In this survey, we collected the papers published in Springer, Elsevier, IEEE, and ACM and addressed SDN and ML between 2016 and 2023. The research papers are organized based on the solutions, evaluation parameters, and evaluation environments to help those working on SDN and ML for improving the target functional or non-functional parameters. The research papers will be analyzed to extract the solutions, evaluation parameters and environments. The extracted solutions, evaluation parameters and environments will be clustered in this review paper. The research gap and future research directions will be stated in this work. Schizophrenia (SZ) is a prevalent mental disorder characterized by cognitive, emotional, and behavioral changes. Symptoms of SZ include hallucinations, illusions, delusions, lack of motivation, and difficulties in concentration. While the exact causes of SZ remain unproven, factors such as brain injuries, stress, and psychotropic drugs have been implicated in its development. SZ can be classified into different types, including paranoid, disorganized, catatonic, undifferentiated, and residual. Diagnosing SZ involves employing various tools, including clinical interviews, physical examinations, psychological evaluations, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), and neuroimaging techniques. Electroencephalography (EEG) recording is a significant functional neuroimaging modality that provides valuable insights into brain function during SZ. However, EEG signal analysis poses challenges for neurologists and scientists due to the presence of artifacts, long-term recordings, and the utilization of multiple channels. To address these challenges, researchers have introduced artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, encompassing conventional machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) methods, to aid in SZ diagnosis. This study reviews papers focused on SZ diagnosis utilizing EEG signals and AI methods. The introduction section provides a comprehensive explanation of SZ diagnosis methods and intervention techniques. Subsequently, review papers in this field are discussed, followed by an introduction to the AI methods employed for SZ diagnosis and a summary of relevant papers presented in tabular form. Additionally, this study reports on the most significant challenges encountered in SZ diagnosis, as identified through a review of papers in this field. In industry, robots are widely used to solve repetitive or dangerous actions in product production, so that product production can be more efficient. However, the problem that robots are often challenged is the convenience and the efficiency of introducing the production line. Therefore, the intuitive robot guidance method is an important issue; this paper will introduce the concept of human–robot interactions (HRI) and use deep learning methods on the machine vision system to complete the robot-guided assembly operation analysis, and the assembly operation analysis requires semantic segmentation as pre-processing. Therefore, we propose a novel semantic template correlation model architecture based on zero-shot learning (ZSL) to achieve the effect of rapid deployment. The semantic template correlation model is to search for the object area offline learning through the semantic template generated by the physics engine, and when inferring online, we can directly enter the semantic template to obtain the relevant object region. Intelligent transport systems (ITS) provide various cooperative edge cloud services for roadside vehicular applications. These applications offer additional diversity, including ticket validation across transport modes and vehicle and object detection to prevent road collisions. Offloading among cooperative edge and cloud networks plays a key role when these resources constrain devices (e.g., vehicles and mobile) to offload their workloads for execution. ITS used different machine learning and deep learning methods for decision automation. However, the self-autonomous decision-making processes of these techniques require significantly more time and higher accuracy for the aforementioned applications on the road-unit side. Thus, this paper presents the new offloading ITS for IoT vehicles in cooperative edge cloud networks. We present the augmented convolutional neural network (ACNN) that trains the workloads on different edge nodes. The ACNN allows users and machine learning methods to work together, making decisions for offloading and scheduling workload execution. This paper presents an augmented federated learning scheduling scheme (AFLSS). An algorithmic method called AFLSS comprises different sub-schemes that work together in the ITS paradigm for IoT applications in transportation. These sub-schemes include ACNN, offloading, scheduling, and security. This paper thoroughly explores the role of object detection in smart cities, specifically focusing on advancements in deep learning-based methods. Deep learning models gain popularity for their autonomous feature learning, surpassing traditional approaches. Despite progress, challenges remain, such as achieving high accuracy in urban scenes and meeting real-time requirements. The study aims to contribute by analyzing state-of-the-art deep learning algorithms, identifying accurate models for smart cities, and evaluating real-time performance using the Average Precision at Medium Intersection over Union (IoU) metric. The reported results showcase various algorithms' performance, with Dynamic Head (DyHead) emerging as the top scorer, excelling in accurately localizing and classifying objects. Its high precision and recall at medium IoU thresholds signify robustness. The paper suggests considering the mean Average Precision (mAP) metric for a comprehensive evaluation across IoU thresholds, if available. Despite this, DyHead stands out as the superior algorithm, particularly at medium IoU thresholds, making it suitable for precise object detection in smart city applications. The performance analysis using Average Precision at Medium IoU is reinforced by the Average Precision at Low IoU (APL), consistently depicting DyHead's superiority. Forecasting of load is essential for operating power systems. India recently witnessed one of the worst power crisis with the highest ever power demand of 207 GW on April 29, 2022. The demand in the month of May and June 2022 was estimated to reach 215 GW. The peak demand this year 2023, according to the electricity ministry, is predicted to be around 230 GW from April to June. The inability to meet certain fundamental issues as power can take a toll on any country's economy. Proper prediction helps in proper decision making and planning. The main objective of this paper is to predict day ahead electrical load demand for Assam. Statistical and Machine Learning Algorithms has been studied. The study has been carried out using real-time data for the years 2016, 2017 and 2018. The paper presents a detailed analysis of the different hyper parameters of the deep learning models and their effect is seen on the learning efficiency. A novel stacked forecasting model is proposed using neural networks as base learners and CatBoost as the meta-learner. The performance of the proposed model has been evaluated and compared with individual models in terms of training time and accuracy using different error metrics namely MAE, MSE, RMSE, MAPE and R2 score. A comparison of the proposed prediction model with the prediction models available in literature has been presented. The conclusion states that both the statistical and machine learning algorithms used in this study act as useful tools for daily load forecasting with considerable accuracy; yet machine learning algorithm outperforms the statistical methods. Induction machines (IMs) are utilized in different industrial sectors such as manufacturing, transportation, transmission, and energy due to their ruggedness, low cost, and high efficiency. If IMs fail without advanced warning, unscheduled maintenance needs to be performed, leading to downtime and maintenance costs for asset owners. To avoid these, conducting prognostics and health management (PHM) for IMs is indispensable. There are different PHM methods (expert knowledge, physics-based, and machine learning) to analyze the health and estimate the remaining useful life (RUL) of IMs. It is essential to select appropriate methods and algorithms to solve practical engineering problems by comparing their pros and cons. When traditional EEG signals are collected based on the Nyquist theorem, long-time recordings of EEG signals will produce a large amount of data. At the same time, limited bandwidth, end-to-end delay, and memory space will bring great pressure on the effective transmission of data. The birth of compressed sensing alleviates this transmission pressure. However, using an iterative compressed sensing reconstruction algorithm for EEG signal reconstruction faces complex calculation problems and slow data processing speed, limiting the application of compressed sensing in EEG signal rapid monitoring systems. As such, this paper presents a non-iterative and fast algorithm for reconstructing EEG signals using compressed sensing and deep learning techniques. This algorithm uses the improved residual network model, extracts the feature information of the EEG signal by one-dimensional dilated convolution, directly learns the nonlinear mapping relationship between the measured value and the original signal, and can quickly and accurately reconstruct the EEG signal. The method proposed in this paper has been verified by simulation on the open BCI contest dataset. Overall, it is proved that the proposed method has higher reconstruction accuracy and faster reconstruction speed than the traditional CS reconstruction algorithm and the existing deep learning reconstruction algorithm. As immovable stone cultural heritage is kept in the open air, they are more susceptible to damage, and damage detection is very important for the protection and restoration of cultural heritage. This is especially true for gold-overlaid stone cultural heritage, which is usually more complicated than ordinary stone carvings. However, the detection of cultural heritage damages is mainly based on expert visual inspection, which is often subjective, time-consuming, and laborious. This paper uses the Mask R-CNN algorithm to rapidly and accurately detect the gold foil shedding of stone cultural heritage through two-dimensional images. The research data are from the high-precision images of the Dazu Thousand-Hand Bodhisattva Statue (World Heritage, UNESCO) in Chongqing, China. After cleaning and augmentation, 1900 images are input into Mask R-CNN model for training. Finally, the average precision value (AP) for detecting gold foil shedding is found to be 0.967. In order to test the performance of the model, the new images that do not participate in the training period are used, and it is found that the model can still accurately detect the gold foil shedding even if there are interference factors. This is the first attempt to detect the damages of gold-overlaid stone cultural heritage based on a deep learning algorithm, and it has achieved good results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Adventure tourism is a popular and growing segment within the tourism industry that involves, but is not limited to, hiking, running, and climbing activities. These activities attract investment from foreign travelers interested in practicing sports while exploring other countries. As a result, many software companies started developing Artificial Intelligence solutions to enhance tourists' outdoor adventure experience. One of the leading technologies in this field is recommender systems, which provide personalized recommendations to tourists based on their preferences. While this topic is actively being researched in some sports (running and hiking), other adventure sports disciplines have yet to be fully explored. To standardize the development of intelligence-based recommender systems, we conducted a systematic literature review on more than a thousand scientific papers published in decision support system applications in three outdoor adventure sports, such as running, hiking, and sport climbing. Hence, the main focus of this work is, firstly, to summarize the state-of-the-art methods and techniques being researched and developed by scientists in recommender systems in adventure tourism, secondly, to provide a unified methodology for software solutions designed in this domain, and thirdly, to give further insights into open possibilities in this topic. This literature survey serves as a unified framework for the future development of technologies in adventure tourism. This paper contributes to the ongoing debate on the nature and characteristics of the volatility transmission channels of major crash events in international stock markets between 03 July 1997 and 09 March 2021. Using dynamic conditional correlations (DCC) for conditional correlations and volatility clustering, GARCH-BEKK for the direction of transmission of disturbances, and the Diebold-Yilmaz spillover index for the level of volatility contagion, the paper finds that the climbs in external shock transmissions have long-lasting impacts in domestic markets due to the contagion effect during crisis periods. The findings also reveal that the heavier magnitude of financial stress is transmitted between Asian countries via the Hong Kong stock market. Additionally, the degree of volatility spillovers between advanced and emerging equity markets is smaller compared to the pure spillovers between advanced markets or emerging markets, offering a window of opportunity for international market participants in terms of portfolio diversification and risk management applications. Furthermore, the study introduces a novel early warning system created by integrating DCC correlations with a state-of-the-art deep learning model to predict the global financial crisis and COVID-19 crisis. The experimental analysis of long short-term memory network finds evidence of contagion risk by verifying bursts in volatility spillovers and generating signals with high accuracy before the 12-month crisis period. This provides supplementary information that contributes to the decision-making process of practitioners, as well as offering indicative evidence that facilitates the assessment of market vulnerability for policymakers. Around 50 million individuals worldwide suffer from epilepsy, a chronic, non-communicable brain disorder. Several screening methods, including electroencephalography, have been proposed to identify epileptic episodes. EEG data, which are frequently utilised to enhance epilepsy analysis, offer essential information on the electrical processes of the brain. Prior to the emergence of deep learning (DL), feature extraction was accomplished by standard machine learning techniques. As a result, they were only as good as the people who made the features by hand. But with DL, both feature extraction and classification are fully automated. These methods have significantly advanced several fields of medicine, including the diagnosis of epilepsy. In this paper, the works focused on automated epileptic seizure detection using ML and DL techniques are presented as well as their comparative analysis is done. The UCI-Epileptic Seizure Recognition dataset is used for training and validation. Some of the conventional ML and DL algorithms are used with a proposed model which uses long short-term memory (LSTM) to find the best approach. Post that comparative analysis is performed on these algorithms to find the best approach for epileptic seizure detection. As a result, the proposed model LSTM gives a validation accuracy of 97% giving the most appropriate and precise result as compared to other mentioned algorithms used in this study. Fine-grained function-level encrypted traffic classification is an essential approach to maintaining network security. Machine learning and deep learning have become mainstream methods to analyze traffic, and labeled dataset construction is the basis. Android occupies a huge share of the mobile operating system market. Instant Messaging (IM) applications are important tools for people communication. But such applications have complex functions which frequently switched, so it is difficult to obtain function-level labels. The existing function-level public datasets in Android are rare and noisy, leading to research stagnation. Most labeled samples are collected with WLAN devices, which cannot exclude the operating system background traffic. At the same time, other datasets need to obtain root permission or use scripts to simulate user behavior. These collecting methods either destroy the security of the mobile device or ignore the real operation features of users with coarse-grained. Previous work (Chen et al. in Appl Sci 12(22):11731, 2022) proposed a one-stop automated encrypted traffic labeled sample collection, construction, and correlation system, A3C, running at the application-level in Android. This paper analyzes the display characteristics of IM and proposes a function-level low-overhead labeled encrypted traffic datasets construction method for Android, F3L. The supplementary method to A3C monitors UI controls and layouts of the Android system in the foreground. It selects the feature fields of attributes of them for different in-app functions to build an in-app function label matching library for target applications and in-app functions. The deviation of timestamp between function invocation and label identification completion is calibrated to cut traffic samples and map them to corresponding labels. The tasks of few-shot, one-shot, and zero-shot learning—or collectively "low-shot learning" (LSL)—at first glance are quite similar to the long-standing task of class imbalanced learning; specifically, they aim to learn classes for which there is little labeled data available. Motivated by this similarity, we conduct a survey to review the recent literature for works which combine these fields in one of two ways, either addressing the obstacle of class imbalance within a LSL setting, or utilizing LSL techniques or frameworks in order to combat class imbalance within other settings. In our survey of over 60 papers in a wide range of applications from January 2020 to July 2023 (inclusive), we examine and report methodologies and experimental results, find that most works report performance at or above their respective state-of-the-art, and highlight current research gaps which hold potential for future work, especially those involving the use of LSL techniques in imbalanced tasks. There have been a number of approaches to employ neural networks in self-adaptive systems; in many cases, generic neural networks and deep learning are utilized for this purpose. When this approach is to be applied to improve an adaptation process initially driven by logical adaptation rules, the problem is that (1) these rules represent a significant and tested body of domain knowledge, which may be lost if they are replaced by a neural network, and (2) the learning process is inherently demanding given the black-box nature and the number of weights in generic neural networks to be trained. In this paper, we introduce the rule-specific neural network method that makes it possible to transform the guard of an adaptation rule into a rule-specific neural network, the composition of which is driven by the structure of the logical predicates in the guard. Our experiments confirmed that the black box effect is eliminated, the number of weights is significantly reduced, and much faster learning is achieved whilst the accuracy is preserved. The mining of open pit mines is widespread in China, and there are many cases of landslide accidents. Therefore, the problem of slope stability is highlighted. The stability of the slope is a factor that directly affects the mining efficiency and the safety of the entire mining process. According to the statistics, there is a 15 percent chance of finding landslide risk in China's large-scale mines. And due to the expansion of the mining scale of the enterprise, the problem of slope stability has become increasingly obvious, which has become a major subject in the study of open-pit mine engineering. In order to better predict the slope stability coefficient, this study takes a mine in China as a case to deeply discuss the accuracy of different algorithms in the stability calculation, and then uses a deep learning algorithm to study the stability under rainfall conditions. The change of the coefficient and the change of the stability coefficient before and after the slope treatment are experimentally studied with the displacement of the monitoring point. The result shows that the safety coefficient calculated by the algorithm in this paper is about 7% lower than that of the traditional algorithm. In the slope stability analysis before treatment, the safety factor calculated by the algorithm in this paper is 1.086, and the algorithm in this paper is closer to reality. In the stability analysis of the slope after treatment, the safety factor calculated by the algorithm in this paper is 1.227, and the stability factor meets the requirements of the specification. It also shows that the deep learning algorithm effectively improves the efficiency of the slope stability factor prediction and improves security during project development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: We systematically reviewed the current literature evaluating the ability of fully-automated deep learning (DL) and semi-automated traditional machine learning (TML) MRI-based artificial intelligence (AI) methods to differentiate clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) from indolent PCa (iPCa) and benign conditions. Methods: We performed a computerised bibliographic search of studies indexed in MEDLINE/PubMed, arXiv, medRxiv, and bioRxiv between 1 January 2016 and 31 July 2021. Two reviewers performed the title/abstract and full-text screening. The remaining papers were screened by four reviewers using the Checklist for Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging (CLAIM) for DL studies and Radiomics Quality Score (RQS) for TML studies. Papers that fulfilled the pre-defined screening requirements underwent full CLAIM/RQS evaluation alongside the risk of bias assessment using QUADAS-2, both conducted by the same four reviewers. Standard measures of discrimination were extracted for the developed predictive models. Results: 17/28 papers (five DL and twelve TML) passed the quality screening and were subject to a full CLAIM/RQS/QUADAS-2 assessment, which revealed a substantial study heterogeneity that precluded us from performing quantitative analysis as part of this review. The mean RQS of TML papers was 11/36, and a total of five papers had a high risk of bias. AUCs of DL and TML papers with low risk of bias ranged between 0.80–0.89 and 0.75–0.88, respectively. Conclusion: We observed comparable performance of the two classes of AI methods and identified a number of common methodological limitations and biases that future studies will need to address to ensure the generalisability of the developed models. Deep learning has made substantial progress in crowd counting, but in practical applications, due to interference factors such as perspective distortion and complex background, the existing methods still have large errors in counting. In response to the above problems, this paper designs a multi-scale feature fusion network (IA-MFFCN) based on the reverse attention mechanism, which maps the image to the crowd density map for counting. The network consists of three parts: feature extraction module, inverse attention module, and back-end module. First, to overcome the problem of perspective distortion, deeper single-column CNNs was designed as a feature extraction module to extract multi-scale feature information and merge them; second, to avoid interference of complex backgrounds, the inverse attention module was designed, through the multi-scale inverse attention mechanism, reducing the influence of noise on counting accuracy. Finally, to generate a high-quality crowd density map, dilation convolution was introduced. Integrating energy systems with information systems in smart grids offers a promising avenue for combating electricity theft by leveraging real-time data insights. Suspicious activity indicative of theft can be identified through anomalous consumption patterns observed in smart networks. However, a smart model is required for capturing and analysing the data intelligently to accurately detect electricity theft. In the paper, electricity theft has been detected using an encoder-decoder-based classifier that integrates two models of convolutional neural networks (CNN). The aim is to scan the strength of the data and built a smart model that analysed the connections in complex data and determine the pattern of theft. The model comprises three compartments: the auto-encoder, the wide convolutional neural network (1-D CNN model), and the deep convolutional neural network (2-D CNN model). The auto-encoder has been trained on the complex and in-depth linkage between the theft data and the normal data as it removes noise and unnecessary information. The 1-D CNN model gathers relevant connections and general features, while the 2-D CNN model determines the rate at which energy theft occurs and differentiates between the energy-stealing consumers and normal consumers. This paper proposes a forward layer-wise learning algorithm for CNNs in classification problems. The algorithm utilizes the Separation Index (SI) as a supervised complexity measure to evaluate and train each layer in a forward manner. The proposed method explains that gradually increasing the SI through layers reduces the input data's uncertainties and disturbances, achieving a better feature space representation. Hence, by approximating the SI with a variant of local triplet loss at each layer, a gradient-based learning algorithm is suggested to maximize it. Inspired by the NGRAD (Neural Gradient Representation by Activity Differences) hypothesis, the proposed algorithm operates in a forward manner without explicit error information from the last layer. The algorithm's performance is evaluated on image classification tasks using VGG16, VGG19, AlexNet, and LeNet architectures with CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, Raabin-WBC, and Fashion-MNIST datasets. For the purpose of processing sequential data, such as time series, and addressing the challenge of manually tuning the architecture of traditional recurrent neural networks (RNNs), this paper introduces a novel approach-the Recurrent Stochastic Configuration Network (RSCN). This network is constructed based on the random incremental algorithm of stochastic configuration networks. Leveraging the foundational structure of recurrent neural networks, our learning model commences with a modest-scale recurrent neural network featuring a single hidden layer and a solitary hidden node. Subsequently, the node parameters of the hidden layer undergo incremental augmentation through a random configuration process, with corresponding weights assigned structurally. This iterative expansion continues until the network satisfies predefined termination criteria. Noteworthy is the adaptability of this algorithm to handle time series data, exhibiting superior performance compared to traditional recurrent neural networks with similar architectures. Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression is currently used in the clinic to assess eligibility for immune-checkpoint inhibitors via the tumor proportion score (TPS), but its efficacy is limited by high interobserver variability. Multiple papers have presented systems for the automatic quantification of TPS, but none report on the task of determining cell-level PD-L1 expression and often reserve their evaluation to a single PD-L1 monoclonal antibody or clinical center. In this paper, we report on a deep learning algorithm for detecting PD-L1 negative and positive tumor cells at a cellular level and evaluate it on a cell-level reference standard established by six readers on a multi-centric, multi PD-L1 assay dataset. This reference standard also provides for the first time a benchmark for computer vision algorithms. In addition, in line with other papers, we also evaluate our algorithm at slide-level by measuring the agreement between the algorithm and six pathologists on TPS quantification. We find a moderately low interobserver agreement at cell-level level (mean reader-reader F1 score = 0.68) which our algorithm sits slightly under (mean reader-AI F1 score = 0.55), especially for cases from the clinical center not included in the training set. Despite this, we find good AI-pathologist agreement on quantifying TPS compared to the interobserver agreement (mean reader-reader Cohen's kappa = 0.54, 95% CI 0.26–0.81, mean reader-AI kappa = 0.49, 95% CI 0.27—0.72). In conclusion, our deep learning algorithm demonstrates promise in detecting PD-L1 expression at a cellular level and exhibits favorable agreement with pathologists in quantifying the tumor proportion score (TPS). In this study, the deep learning algorithm of Convolutional Neural Network long short-term memory (CNN–LSTM) is used to classify various jewelry rocks such as agate, turquoise, calcites, and azure from various historical periods and styles related to Shahr-e Sokhteh. Here, the CNN–LSTM architecture includes utilizing CNN layers for the extraction of features from input data mixed with LSTMs for supporting sequence forecasting. It should be mentioned that interpretable deep learning-assisted laser induced breakdown spectroscopy helped achieve excellent performance. For the first time, this paper interprets the Convolutional LSTM effectiveness layer by layer in self-adaptively obtaining LIBS features and the quantitative data of major chemical elements in jewelry rocks. Moreover, Lasso method is applied on data as a factor for investigation of interoperability. Electric vehicles (EVs) are expected to be vital in transitioning to a low-carbon energy system. However, integrating EVs into the power grid poses significant challenges for grid operators and energy suppliers, especially regarding the uncertainty and variability of EV charging demand. Accurate forecasting of EV charging demand is essential for optimal power system integration, yet previous studies have often only considered point predictions that are inadequate for risk assessment. Therefore, this paper compares different probabilistic forecasting models for the short-term prediction of EV charging demand at various aggregation levels, using a large and novel dataset of over 350,000 charging processes at more than 500 locations across Germany. The performance of both machine learning and deep learning methods is evaluated against a naïve benchmark model, and the impact of data availability on the forecasting models is investigated. Further, the paper examines the effects of forecast accuracy on energy procurement, which has so far received minor attention in the literature. The results show that machine learning methods such as Ada Boosting and Random Forest yield robust results with a normalized root mean square error of 0.42 and 0.41 and a mean absolute scaled error of 0.36 and 0.34 at the highest aggregation level. Furthermore, the results show the influence of different site compositions on the forecast quality and how many charging points are likely to yield a robust forecast. The triage process in emergency departments (EDs) relies on the subjective assessment of medical practitioners, making it unreliable in certain aspects. There is a need for a more accurate and objective algorithm to determine the urgency of patients. This paper explores the application of advanced data-synthesis algorithms, machine learning (ML) algorithms, and ensemble models to predict patient mortality. Patients predicted to be at risk of mortality are in a highly critical condition, signifying an urgent need for immediate medical intervention. This paper aims to determine the most effective method for predicting mortality by enhancing the F1 score while maintaining high area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) score. This study used a dataset of 7325 patients who visited the Yonsei Severance Hospital's ED, located in Seoul, South Korea. The patients were divided into two groups: patients who deceased in the ED and patients who didn't. Various data-synthesis techniques, such as SMOTE, ADASYN, CTGAN, TVAE, CopulaGAN, and Gaussian Copula, were deployed to generate synthetic patient data. Twenty two ML models were then utilized, including tree-based algorithms like Decision tree, AdaBoost, LightGBM, CatBoost, XGBoost, NGBoost, TabNet, which are deep neural network algorithms, and statistical algorithms such as Support Vector Machine, Logistic Regression, Random Forest, k-nearest neighbors, and Gaussian Naive Bayes, as well as Ensemble Models which use the results from the ML models. Based on 21 patient information features used in the pandemic influenza triage algorithm (PITA), the models explained previously were applied to aim for the prediction of patient mortality. In evaluating ML algorithms using an imbalanced medical dataset, conventional metrics like accuracy scores or AUC can be misleading. This paper emphasizes the importance of using the F1 score as the primary performance measure, focusing on recall and specificity in detecting patient mortality. The highest-ranked model for predicting mortality utilized the Gaussian Copula data-synthesis technique and the CatBoost classifier, achieving an AUC of 0.9731 and an F1 score of 0.7059. Software defect prediction is critical to ensuring software quality. Researchers have worked on building various defect prediction models to improve the performance of defect prediction. Existing defect prediction models are mainly divided into two categories: models constructed based on artificial statistical features and models constructed based on semantic features. This paper is based on the DP-CNN model and makes the following two improvements: first, using a new Struc2vec network representation technique to mine existing information between software modules, which specializes in learning node representations from structural identity and can further extract structural features associated with defects. Let the DP-CNN model once again incorporate the newly mined structural features. Then, this paper proposes a feature selection method based on counterfactual explanations, which can determine the importance score of each feature by the feature change rate of counterfactual samples. The origin of these feature importance scores is interpretable. Under the guidance of these interpretable feature importance scores, better feature subsets can be obtained and used to optimize artificial statistical features within the DP-CNN model. The analysis of data streams offers a great opportunity for development of new methodologies and applications in the area of Intelligent Transportation Systems. In this paper, we propose two new incremental learning approaches for the travel time prediction problem for taxi GPS data streams in different scenarios and compare the same with three other existing methods. An extensive performance evaluation using four real life datasets indicate that when the training data size is small the Support Vector Regression method is the best choice considering both prediction accuracy and total computation time. However when the training data size is large to moderate then the Randomized K-Nearest Neighbor Regression with Spherical Distance (RKNNRSD) and the Incremental Polynomial Regression become the methods of choice. When continuous prediction of remaining travel time along the trajectory of a trip is considered we find that the RKNNRSD is the method of choice. A Real-time Speeding Alert System (RSAS) and a Driver Suspected Speeding Scorecard (DSSS) using the RKNNRSD method are proposed which have great potential for improving travel safety. In recent years, the Multi-agent Deep Reinforcement Learning Algorithm has been developing rapidly, in which the value method-based algorithm plays an important role (such as Monotonic Value Function Factorisation (QMIX) and Learning to Factorize with Transformation for Cooperative Multi-Agent Reinforcement learning (QTRAN)). In spite of the fact, the performance of current value-based multi-agent algorithm under complex scene still can be further improved. In value function-based model, a mixing network is usually used to mix the local action value of each agent to get joint action value when the partial observability will cause the problem of misalignment and unsatisfying mixing results. This paper proposes a multi-agent model called Transform Networks that transform the individual local action-value function gotten by agent network to individual global action-value function, which will avoid the problem of misalignment caused by partial observability when the individual action value is mixed, and the joint action value can represent the cooperative conditions of all agents well. Increasing computational power and improving deep learning methods have made computer vision technologies pervasively common in urban environments. Their applications in policing, traffic management, and documenting public spaces are increasingly common (Ridgeway 2018, Coifman et al. 1998, Sun et al. 2020). Despite the often-discussed biases in the algorithms' training and unequally borne benefits (Khosla et al. 2012), almost all applications similarly reduce urban experiences to simplistic, reductive, and mechanistic measures. There is a lack of context, depth, and specificity in these practices that enables semantic knowledge or analysis within urban contexts, especially within the context of using and occupying urban space. This paper will critique existing uses of artificial intelligence and computer vision in urban practices to propose a new framework for understanding people, action, and public space. This paper revisits Geertz's (1973) use of thick descriptions in generating interpretive theories of culture and activity and uses this lens to establish a framework to approach evaluating the varied uses of computer vision technologies that weigh meaning. By discussing cases of implemented examples of urban computer vision—from LinkNYC and Numina's urban measurements to the Detroit Police's use of DataWorks Plus's facial recognition technology—it proposes a framework for evaluating the thickness of the algorithm's conclusions against the computational method's complexity required to produce that outcome. Further, we discuss how the framework's positioning may differ (and conflict) between different users of the technology, from engineer to urban planner and policymaker, to citizen. This paper also discusses how the current use and training of deep learning algorithms and how this process limits semantic learning and proposes three potential methodologies toward gaining a more contextually specific, urban-semantic, description of urban space relevant to urbanists. Phishing is a fraudster's technique used to get sensitive data from users by seeming to come from trusted sources. The sender can persuade you to give secret data by misdirecting in a phished email. The main problem is email phishing attacks while sending and receiving the email. The attacker sends spam data using email and receives your data when you open and read the email. In recent years, it has been a big problem for everyone. This paper uses different legitimate and phishing data sizes, detects new emails, and uses different features and algorithms for classification. A modified dataset is created after measuring the existing approaches. We created a feature extracted comma-separated values (CSV) file and label file, applied the support vector machine (SVM), Naive Bayes (NB), and long short-term memory (LSTM) algorithm. This experimentation considers the recognition of a phished email as a classification issue. According to the comparison and implementation, SVM, NB and LSTM performance is better and more accurate to detect email phishing attacks. Spotting fake news is a critical problem nowadays. Social media are responsible for propagating fake news. Fake news propagated over digital platforms generates confusion as well as induce biased perspectives in people. Detection of misinformation over the digital platform is essential to mitigate its adverse impact. Many approaches have been implemented in recent years. Despite the productive work, fake news identification poses many challenges due to the lack of a comprehensive publicly available benchmark dataset. There is no large-scale dataset that consists of Indian news only. So, this paper presents IFND (Indian fake news dataset) dataset. The dataset consists of both text and images. The majority of the content in the dataset is about events from the year 2013 to the year 2021. Dataset content is scrapped using the Parsehub tool. To increase the size of the fake news in the dataset, an intelligent augmentation algorithm is used. An intelligent augmentation algorithm generates meaningful fake news statements. The latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) technique is employed for topic modelling to assign the categories to news statements. Various machine learning and deep-learning classifiers are implemented on text and image modality to observe the proposed IFND dataset's performance. A multi-modal approach is also proposed, which considers both textual and visual features for fake news detection. The proposed IFND dataset achieved satisfactory results. For humans to trust in artificial intelligence (AI) systems, it is essential for machine learning (ML) models to be interpretable to users. For example, the judicial process requires that AI conclusions must be rigorous and absolutely interpretable. In this paper, we propose a novel approach, VAE-SLIME, for providing stable local interpretable model-agnostic explanations (SLIME) based on a variational autoencoder (VAE). LIME is a technique that explains the predictions of any classifier in an interpretable and faithful manner. Despite the great success of LIME, the most popular method in this category, it has several disadvantages due to its random perturbation-based sampling method. The VAE-SLIME proposed in this paper is specifically designed to address the lack of stability and local fidelity exhibited by LIME for tabular data. VAE-SLIME first employs fixed noise to replace the random Gaussian noise used by the reparameterization trick of the VAE. Then, it uses this new VAE model instead of random perturbation method to generate stable samples. By considering the sequential relationship and flipping of features, a novel explanation stability evaluation metric, the feature sequence stability index (FSSI), is introduced to accurately evaluate the stability of explanations. In a comparison with 6 state-of-the-art approaches on 7 commonly used tabular datasets, the experimental results show beyond doubt that the explanations produced by our approach are most stable, and its local fidelity is 65.17% higher than that of other approaches on average. This discrepancy can pose a serious problem for deep learning models, which require copious and diverse amounts of data to learn patterns and output classifications. Traditionally, data-level and algorithm-level techniques have been instrumental in mitigating the adverse effect of class imbalance. With the recent development and proliferation of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), researchers across a variety of disciplines have adapted the architecture of GANs and implemented them on imbalanced datasets to generate instances of the underrepresented class(es). These technologies offer thrilling innovative ways for engineers and manufacturers to tackle real-life challenges. On the other hand, the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is extensive. Several diverse theories, algorithms, and methods are available, which presents a challenge and a barrier in choosing the right AI technique for the appropriate engineering process or manufacturing process and environments. Besides, the pertinent literature is disseminated over various journals, conference proceedings, and research communities. Hence, conducting a systematic survey to scrutinise and classify the existing literature is worthwhile. However, it is challenging, but previous review studies have not adequately addressed AI's use and advancement in engineering and manufacturing (EM). Besides, some concentrated on single AI models, and others focused on a specific area in EM. This paper presents a comprehensive systematic review of studies on AI and its application in EM. To limit the scope of the current study, we conducted a keyword search in official publisher websites and academic databases, such as Springer, Elsevier, Scopus, Science Publication, Taylor & Francis, Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Wiley online library, Inderscience and Google scholar. The search results (173 articles) were filtered according to a proposed framework, which resulted in ninety-one (91) relevant research articles. We reviewed the articles based on a proposed taxonomy (the year of publication, the AI algorithm and machine learning task adopted, the application area in EM, the train and test split of data, the error, and accuracy metrics used, the potential benefits). Our assessment using the proposed taxonomy gave a helpful insight into the literature's anatomy on various AI applications in engineering and manufacturing. The volume of data transferred across communication infrastructures has recently increased due to technological advancements in cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), and automobile networks. The network systems transmit diverse and heterogeneous data in dispersed environments as communication technology develops. The communications using these networks and daily interactions depend on network security systems to provide secure and reliable information. On the other hand, attackers have increased their efforts to render systems on networks susceptible. An efficient intrusion detection system is essential since technological advancements embark on new kinds of attacks and security limitations. This paper implements a hybrid model for Intrusion Detection (ID) with Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) techniques to tackle these limitations. The proposed model makes use of Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) and convolutional neural networks (CNN) for feature extraction and then combines each of these with long short-term memory networks (LSTM) for classification. Four benchmark datasets CIC IDS 2017, UNSW NB15, NSL KDD, and WSN DS were used to train the model for binary and multi-class classification. With the increase in feature dimensions, current intrusion detection systems have trouble identifying new threats due to low test accuracy scores. To narrow down each dataset's feature space, XGBoost, and CNN feature selection algorithms are used in this work for each separate model. The experimental findings demonstrate a high detection rate and good accuracy with a relatively low False Acceptance Rate (FAR) to prove the usefulness of the proposed hybrid model. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major global health concern, affecting millions of individuals worldwide. While existing literature predominantly focuses on disease classification using clinical data, there exists a critical research gap concerning HCV genotyping based on genomic sequences. Accurate HCV genotyping is essential for patient management and treatment decisions. While the neural models excel at capturing complex patterns, they still face challenges, such as data scarcity, that exist a lot in computational genomics. To overcome this challenges, this paper introduces an advanced deep learning approach for HCV genotyping based on the graphical representation of nucleotide sequences that outperforms classical approaches. Notably, it is effective for both partial and complete HCV genomes and addresses challenges associated with imbalanced datasets. In this work, ten HCV genotypes: 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 2c, 3a, 3b, 4, 5, and 6 were used in the analysis. This study utilizes Chaos Game Representation for 2D mapping of genomic sequences, employing self-supervised learning using convolutional autoencoder for deep feature extraction, resulting in an outstanding performance for HCV genotyping compared to various machine learning and deep learning models. This baseline provides a benchmark against which the performance of the proposed approach and other models can be evaluated. The experimental results showcase a remarkable classification accuracy of over 99%, outperforming traditional deep learning models. This performance demonstrates the capability of the proposed model to accurately identify HCV genotypes in both partial and complete sequences and in dealing with data scarcity for certain genotypes. Water conservation has become a global problem as the population increases. In many densely populated cities in China, leaks from century-old pipe works have been widespread. However, entirely eradicating the issues involves replacing all water networks, which is costly and time-consuming. This paper proposed an AI-enabled water-saving control system with three control modes: time division control, flow regulation, and critical point control according to actual flow. Firstly, based on the current leaking situation of water supply networks in China and the capability level of China's water management, a water-saving technology integrating PID control and a series of deep learning algorithms was proposed. Secondly, a multi-jet control valve was designed to control pressure and reduce water distribution network cavitation. Early detection of the adenocarcinoma cancer in colon tissue by means of explainable deep learning, by classifying histological images and providing visual explainability on model prediction. Considering that in recent years, deep learning techniques have emerged as powerful techniques in medical image analysis, offering unprecedented accuracy and efficiency, in this paper we propose a method to automatically detect the presence of cancerous cells in colon tissue images. Various deep learning architectures are considered, with the aim of considering the best one in terms of quantitative and qualitative results. As a matter of fact, we consider qualitative results by taking into account the so-called prediction explainability, by providing a way to highlight on the tissue images the areas that from the model point of view are related to the presence of colon cancer. The experimental analysis, performed on 10,000 colon issue images, showed the effectiveness of the proposed method by obtaining an accuracy equal to 0.99. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)-based positioning plays a crucial role in various applications, including navigation, transportation, logistics, mapping, and emergency services. Traditional GNSS positioning methods are model-based, utilizing satellite geometry and the known properties of satellite signals. However, model-based methods have limitations in challenging environments and often lack adaptability to uncertain noise models. This paper highlights recent advances in machine learning (ML) and its potential to address these limitations. It covers a broad range of ML methods, including supervised learning, unsupervised learning, deep learning, and hybrid approaches. The survey provides insights into positioning applications related to GNSS, such as signal analysis, anomaly detection, multi-sensor integration, prediction, and accuracy enhancement using ML.
